I absolutely hate now that I’m forced to do these metaevents events on a schedule. I understand why you guys did it, but I really hate it.
Actually, they are taking the schedule way and giving control to us – through the guild event system.
If you can afford the guild unlock.
If you’re a member of a guild that has enough members to do said boss event.
If you’re on at that specific time to activate your unlock in the first place.
I don’t understand this blog… it isn’t part of the April 15th patch and by the wording it might not even be technically possible and may not ever be implemented… Why is this included in the feature patch blogs? Just trying to make it look like more content then there is?
That’s what I gathered.
I’m happy with the wardrobe, sPvP, and trait changes, but I feel like everything else was a flop.
Yes today’s blog about WvW didn’t provide much information at all.
It provided literally no information.
Honestly, that last blog post isn’t even warranted because it’s not included in the feature patch and vaguely mentions plans that may or may not come to fruition at some undisclosed point in the future.
To quell speculation early, that is not what we are doing. The announcement will have more info, but we are absolutely not getting rid of worlds and putting everyone into an EotM type system.
So, I couldn’t help but notice that the blog post had only one very small blurb about WvW and all it basically said was that nothing is changing (currently).
I’d just like to know why you couldn’t tell us this yesterday instead of creating needless forum drama.

I’m still waiting for the “amazing changes” to Ranger that ANet mentioned in February.
Maybe we have different definitions of amazing.
There’s nothing like completing an event or opening a reward chest and getting two or three green drops.
The thrill, the rush…
Anyone who thinks that conditions are in a bad spot has been playing too much PvE.
To be fair, PvE should also be a focus of balance. It is what the majority of players spend their time on, after all.
The problem with basing balance decisions on PvE is that the hardcore Fractal Runners will optimize whatever ANet throws at them and something will always be the best option. The elitism will exist no matter what.
If ANet plans on further buffing conditions in order to make them viable in PvE, they need to plan accordingly because it will have terrible consequences in WvW and sPvP where condi-bunker builds already thrive.
They should have put a cap on the number of incoming transfers and made it first-come-first-serve.
Anyone who thinks that conditions are in a bad spot has been playing too much PvE.
They like releasing the first part early and then holding on to the follow-ups until the end of the day.
ANet is such a tease.
Necro minion master overpowered?
What’s your sPvP rank?
And? What’s wrong with players preferring to play a less taxing spec? I mean seriously, why is it bad if a game supports this?
There’s a difference between playing a less taxing spec (Hambow Warrior requires much less effort than Shatter Mesmer) and a spec that essentially plays the game for you.
I’d like to see AI/passive builds nerfed into the ground.
MM Necros and Spirit Rangers make me sick. “I can’t play a real build so I use the game AI and passive abilities as a crutch, thanks ANet!”.
Why wait two days, post the blogs now? What’s the point of coming here and saying “Oh, your concerns will be addressed soon. We’re not going to post the blogs now. But soon.” What is it with anet and their fear of “spoilers”?
Because it is easier to take feedback and give correct information when releasing less information?
If they had released 3 days worth of blogs right now, people would most likely miss quite a bit of the information, and then whine about missing said information.
I think coming on and saying “yeah, we’ll be addressing your concerns later.” is kind of…not helpful.
Its communication and sharing of excitement. I don’t see anything wrong with this, sometimes we need to talk to more than just the computer.
If you have information that addresses people’s concerns, why do you wait a day to release it?
I made a thread asking this very thing and it got thrown into the trashcan.
The megaserver concept seems to have been inspired by unsaid MMO about to launch. That MMO also has only 3 wvw teams(alliances). Not saying it’s good or bad. Just stating observations.
Thank you Captain Obvious.
So most people hate the population imbalance issue (aka Nightcapping, Nightwatch). Yet most people also hate any proposed solution to the issue.
So which do you think will cause the most QQ and the most people to quit over the next year:
Switch to Megaserver and the end of Server vs. Server vs. Server?
Or
Leave it the way it is with the population imbalance issues?
Or they could just change how PPT works.
For instance, making it so you get points for capping a structure rather than holding one would help alleviate the huge PPT gap created by coverage issues.
Nevertheless, I definitely do not want WvW matchups to be like EotM in any way whatsoever.
I’d love server alliances.
Something like – if you’re green, you can go help other servers with the same color.
And calculate the score combining all scores together of the same color.
You must love karma trains.
People are less likely to read the whole thing if they post it all at once. By breaking it up, they can ensure people at least read most of the information before taking to the forums to complain with false information
I don’t agree with this line of thought at all.
What are you more likely to read: one article describing a big patch, or fifteen separate ones that detail each aspect of said patch?
I loved math in school, specifically geometry and proofs. When I see a post like the Megaserver System my mind auto starts processing/predicting future progress/pros/cons/effectiveness etc. And I have a few predictions as to the progression of this thought process.
- Servers for PvE and PvP will basically no longer exist.
- Therefore servers will mostly be tied to the wvw community only.
- Currently there is a HUGE gap in the wvw skill lvl of servers, causing good ones to get over populated and vice versa.
- Solution: merge the entire wvw community into 3, more balanced equal sides…
- …similarly to how edge of the mist is…
My prediction is that the wvw battle will simple be blue/green/red with a lot of overflows. No more queue, ever. I think server rankings will determine which color a server is on. So people won’t need to hop servers for wvw because each server will be fighting with the help of 1/3 of the servers.
So, am I a genius or just crazy?
TL;DR WvW matchups will be like EotM.
Do not want.
I’m really scared of the impact this is going to have on WvW and server pride. I play on a lower tier server for a reason. I hate mindless zerging, and WvW is mainly what keeps me in this game since I view it as good end game content. I like the EotM maps, but I hate the mega server zerg mode of it.
Best solution in my mind is to leave the major cities/non combat zones out of this addition, and only have it take place in the open world.
ANet: “Tune in tomorrow to see how we plan to potentially ruin your favorite game-mode!”
Make sure to check back for part 2 and 3 of this announcement for more details.
-_-
We’ll also continue to monitor and adapt the megaserver system once it’s fully enabled to ensure it provides the best experience possible, so once you’ve seen it in action please make sure to leave comments, feedback, and suggestions as always!
How about just not tampering with the player communities created in a game system that we all bough in the first place. This isn’t Beta for such a game
breakingchanging feature to be implemented 1.5 years down the line, or am I mistaken?Did you know that GW1 started with a different system and then switched to select-able districts after the game was out? This isn’t unprecedented.
I don’t remember this, but it must have happened almost immediately after launch if true.
Either way, that’s drastically different from doing an overhaul a year and a half into the game.
Been asking for this since release…. I come from GW1 so for some reason I was certain that GW2 would also have GvG and guild halls.
I don’t think they care else we would have them already. I mean designing small arena type halls with deathmatch style GvG isn’t supposed to take years to do.
That’s because they can’t put Guild Halls in the Gem Store.
…or can they? Dear god.
Please Merge WvW in a system that functions well and make EOTM count for PPT.
Only if you want to get rid of all of your established WvW communities in one single change.
~MRA
ESO does it fine, I don’t see why GW2 would fail doing the same thing. It’s GUILD wars anyway, not SERVER wars. Anyway our community is already dissolved as most WvW guilds moved to higher tiers.
They will have to do it eventually as population diminishes. 100% certain from the beginning that EOTM was made to test how the servers would handle that.
So, you’re going to place random guilds from random servers into random match-ups?
Guilds that like to coordinate with other specific guilds in WvW will be left in the dust. I understand that this isn’t an issue for Abyss since you can queue a map all by your lonesome, but this would have a huge impact on a lot of server communities.
I get that this would help alleviate some of the population problems in various tiers, but it would also make WvW more zergy. Please no.
Your speaking about technicalities, we Vulcans embrace technicalities….
Point is, it can work.
Brb, need to recruit 70+ players to turn [Bags] into an omniblob guild.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-megaserver-system/
This is a really massive change and it sounds like it’s going to have an impact on guilds and WvW too. I’m pretty stoked to see what’s planned.
I am personally terrified.

Very excited!
We are too! Well, at least Bags is

This terrifies me and could easily go wrong.
So the next two blogs will just elaborate on what is already announced.
They won’t contain anything new. So much for my hope for guild halls.
It’s a sad day indeed.
Ah, this thread. How I’ve missed it.
I’d post more, but I’m off to OS with one of my rangers & her longbow. Few things make me giggle harder than knocking players off of ledges.
I’ve seen quite a few Rangers use their longbow spectacularly in OS.
I love how mad some people are getting over this.
Classic, thanks for the laughs ANet.
I like the tongue-in-cheek humor.
+1
You’re very correct Nage, people have no patience. Many don’t even seem to know what it is anymore. They forget that Rome was not built in a day. The same goes for any form of entertainment, video games especially.
I’ve been patient for a year and a half. My patience is wearing thin.
And regarding Rome, it may not have been built in a day but it sure did fall in one…..August 24th of 410 AD.
Shots fired.
I’d love to see the ERPing community react to a global gender swap.
I’d love to see how the “RP community” would react if they did a gender swap like in GW1. Would there be tears?
:)
A game can either be small and relatively bug free (and even in Rifts case it was still missing features and had a horrible security bug) or it can be large and ambitious but it will need to be built while people play.
I don’t believe there’s a middle ground.
As i said, mmo is not a genre there is only the scale of a project. Just because your peers are garbage doesn’t mean you also have to be garbage.
Industry disruptor – across many industries they keep popping up, because apparently they keep proving people who believe “there is no middle ground” wrong.
People are mainly arguing a decline of standards from gw1 to gw2. Gw1 wasn’t fully featured or bug-free during release, but it was done right.
also, all your examples? all recent games – and again i have to repeat games these days are released “unfinished” except for a few.
Guild Wars 1 wasn’t an MMO. So comparing it to MMOs (which are larger and more complex) is pointless.
Saying that GW1 wasn’t an MMO is extremely nit-picky.
mmo is supposed to be options by user. this is my first mmo and this April fools has kind of ruined it for me. spent WAY too much on this game to play with my gf and this makes it unplayable in the VERY limited free time we have.
Hyperbole at its finest.
I may or may not have enjoyed an extended visit to OS last night.
Cheers to the CD and NSP that donated to the bag fund.

Especially bobblehead jokes.
At least the devs still have humor….. considering how the players treat them.
That was my point.
This was a hilarious change made in good spirits and the playerbase is getting so worked up over it. People take video games too seriously.
I simply don’t understand why people are getting so worked up over this.
Take a deep breath; it’s a joke in the spirit of April Fools and will come to pass shortly.
It’s a cool joke – I give them that, but a prank lasting one entire day sucks. Imagine your friend doing a prank on you continuously for the entire day. It transforms from funny to annoying, unless you’re a masochist or something.
It’s only a day.
This is a video game, not real life.
Well, some people have limited time to play so this argument really only affects people with so much time on their hands.
Again, it’s a cool prank. Only what’s cooler is that if they had an on-off switch for it.
Please don’t try to be a White Knight on ANet’s defense, I’m not saying they did a poor job – just saying it’s nice to have some options.
It’s funny that you call me a white knight because lord knows I have a lot of issues with how ANet runs this game and I’ve definitely vocalized a few of them.
However, this harmless joke is not one of them. I’m beginning to think that the “ermahgerd mah character is so oogly halp” spam is the real prank. Thank you ANet

If they removed the bobbleheads because of the QQ, it’s a sad day indeed.
I personally thought the change was hilarious and was in tears when a charr ran by.
I take great some in charRacters creation and aesthetics and don’t like to be ruined just because some anet employee who lacks creativity thinks it’s funny to make my head 1/2 the size of my body…
Soo..funny…
I think the real joke is how worked up everyone is getting over this.
cough
It’s for one day and it was pretty hilarious when it first popped up.
Calm your kittens.
I really like this idea.
When GW2 was still in development, I thought we would get profession and race specific finishers, but it wasn’t meant to be.
April Fools baby.

lolwut
I personally like the tidbit about new skills and weapon sets.
The blog post about the sPvP iceberg is also pretty hilarious.
I personally would like to hear some more OS horror stories; they’re pretty entertaining.
