If you use the trait that make your shroud drops conditions, and you use trooper runes with a good amount of shouts, the vitality isn’t really needed on all pieces.

This simply can’t be done cause a different elite spec may use a different weapon, and having a class eventually use all weapons seems a bit useless, so they are bound to the elite spec.

I feel the pain tough, as someone who will probally not main guardian anymore.

Everyone is being treated equally cause everyone will eventually get them. One type of weapon wielder does not get less content then another, they may however get it at different times.

Look i’m done discussing this.
There is 2 possibility’s here, either the legendary’s are directly bound to the story, and they planned to release them as the story goes on to match it. In wich case they can’t release all at launch, (in this case most likely they are listed to be finished by the time their story comes out.) to late to change anything about that now.

2nd possibility: The tracks and/or legendary weapons themselves aren’t all finished and won’t be finished by launch. In wich case that is also to late to change anything about now.

Result: you can kitten all you want, and assume all you want, this isn’t gonna change.

If you think they will make junglemaps with all these high and low areas and caves and caverns to explore, and not add exploration, you are loosing it. Of course they will. There’s a whole mastery line right now about being able to read ancient runes and tablets. Were you expecting to go to the “ancient rune and tablet library” for this?

Speaking for myself, I’m here from an extended break. I liked aspects of GW2 for sure but a fanboi I am not. the game was lackluster in areas and it got old fast. Why play it? Its not an awful game and its paid for. Will I pay for an expansion? That remains to be seen.

That is your good right, but the player in question clearly had already bought the expansion without seeking info and being bored of the core game, now that’s being plain stupid.

It’s exactly the same as your wardrobe, when you buy a skin, and use it on your armor, it changes. However if you want to use that skin again, you need to use the wardrobe.

Seems like this is the same way, only it’s not added to the wardrobe yet.

Why are you still giving people protips? Early on, you told me that snipers cannot kill zerkers in 1 volley. Do you even know what Mordrem Snipers look like? In fact, do you even know what zerker means?

People at first weren’t complaining about the volley but the snipe line, the volley is so beyond easy i wouldn’t think anyone would have a problem with it.

edit: Look i’m not against finetuning, and atm the snipers feel really dangerous compared to the rest of the mobs, especially the melee variant, so why don’t we tone one down while we tune the other to at least do something.

It’s not trivial, else it would be so, seriously do you really think if this was a 5 minutes job that a-net would bother with putting multiple chests in, wich you can select your stats for but not while it’s on you?

There clearly is something in place that does not allow what you are suggesting. Stop acting like the devs are bloody kittened.

Legendaries aren’t made fast unless you have an ungodly amount of gold. Three is pretty time consuming. I thought I read that more will be added as time goes on.

You’re making the assumption that people will want all three of them.

It means nothing if you don’t even have a choice of something you will use or want. Three weapons I have no interest in, or use for, consume none of my time. It wastes time that I could spend working toward a legendary I want.

And when the weapons you have interest in come out, other people may feel the same because they don’t want that weapon. This is purely an infant argument stamping your foot on the ground holding your breath and crying, i want them now!!

Whenever a new legendairy comes out, some people will think, meh i want weapons for my class, and cry about it. Simple fact is this is perfect for really hardcore players with almost every class. (and i’m not one of those, but i understand how this is awesome for them) As they get gradual goals to go for, as for the rest of us, it’s not worse then it is now or was at release. We just get our update to look forward to.

They will always work to having the same number of legendairy’s for each weapon, so the ammount of content you are getting is the same, it’s just spread out, wich encourages true collectors to go for more then they do now and does not affect normal players at all…

Just dodge doesn’t work since it eats up your two dodges to clear a full round of rapid fire. If there’s two snipers, or even if you cannot get close enough to kill that lone sniper, the next rapid fire will kill you.

In sPvP, rapid fire rangers aren’t too strong because you get plenty of places to LoS them. The current map doesn’t feel completely fitting for that.

Some classes don’t have the anti projectile uptime or CC required to clear those mobs correctly. I think zerk thief will have a very hard time in that place for example.

Seriously this is so wrong, there isn’t a class in the game that doesn’t have knockback or blind or fear or daze or stun. Bohoo you have to change a utility skill or you have it on your weapon.

I wish people would stop calling mechanics that encourage you to think to hard.

Stop comparing the beta to the end product we aren’t seeing every map in the betas how many times do devs need to state this we are seeing 25% of Verdant brink for betas to stop Anet ruining the story.

People really have a problem with reading posts it seems….I don’t care about the size of Verdant Brink or any other map section. I simply want the sections to be more like the 100% completion zones rather that the simple locations like Dry Top. Also I’m not comparing the beta to the end product, but the beta should give me an idea of what to expect. From what I’m seeing in the beta I no longer expect to get the zones I want.

…Your first few posts were about how much other games increased the world map size and how many maps they added, as well as how many maps were in other zones in GW2 and complaining about “small season areas”. If people think you care about map size, it’s because of the things you’ve said in this thread.

Beyond that you’ve talked about wanting maps you can get 100% completion on, while being very nebulous about what exactly it is you want for that. There are points of interest, waypoints, and mastery points that work like skill challenges. I would assume they plan to add vistas, since even Dry Top and Silverwastes have vistas. I’m guessing there will be rewards for getting 100% map completion in the new zone.

If you want renown hearts to work towards, you’re out of luck. The new zones are going to follow the same model as Orr, where instead of hearts you have lots of dynamic events and event chains.

I compared to GW1 expansions not because of the size of the map in the beta, but what it seemed to represent, which is small “Dry Top like maps”. I want maps that allow me to get 100% completion because if all I can do is events then I’ll get bored really quick. I don’t play PvP and only go into WvW once in a while and Dungeons/Fractals are not my thing. So when I play GW2 I play it like a single player game and having a goal to work towards (100% map completion of zones) is what I look forward to doing. That’s why I enjoyed Factions and Nightfall so much…they had a ton of new areas for single player people to look forward to doing.

You should not considder this like factions and nightfall tough, if you want to compare it to anything in GW2 compare it to Eye of the north. This is an expansion, not a standalone. And i see not a single reason why you wouldn’t be able to map complete a map like this. In fact, i’d think maps like these are a good challenge for map completers because of the multiple layers you have to work trough, and different masteries you’ll need to get to places. Again, you need to look at this like Orr, in layers.

But it’s clear that you want hearts to be able to go from one thing to another and complete it ignoring the events, well then you are out of luck. GW2 lvl 80 content just doesn’t work like that.

That may be true for the ranged classes like the ele and the archer, but for melee, there’s just no easy way to deal with multiple vet’s and a half doz reg mobs at one time. I think the new content is heavily favored toward ranged and decidedly stacked against melee.

This is simply incorrect in my case, i’ve been able to do any content both on my revenant and reaper, i build my rev glass cannon rampage and while i got downed a bit more then on a tanky character, the content wasn’t really that hard or challenging at any time.

I’m having a way harder time on my ranged chars cause the tells aren’t as obvious tbh and even the melee mobs have long charges. But maybe that’s because i’m used to playing melee.

Where did they say there will be more than one map? All I’ve heard is this is one map with three different levels so they keep trying to sell this one map as three when it’s not.

Collin has said that not all HoT maps will have these 3 layers. Hereby confirming more then 1 map

This is more like Orr in layers then drytop tbh, there are allot of waypoints. There are mastery points to get, allot of events. The only thing there isn’t are hearts, and if you want hearts in lvl 80 maps, noone can help you, cause you would be the only person in the universe.

You are good. But I just keep falling from the cliff when I need jump to get a master point

Build up your basic gliding mastery and glide to it. I’m still trying to figure out how to get the one on top of the rocks.

You use updraft with the fire-smoke from the wreckage below to float the extra few feet up to it. Unlock that first.

I watched so many poor souls trying so hard to get it and kinda laughing inside because of how obvious they made it (to me) but hard to figure out to the average player. They should prolly add a description within the mastery that mentions you use the heat from fires (you see them all over) to updraft.

Saying they are easy is simply not true for all classes. Mesmer’s should have no issue with them. Pop feedback on them when they do their rapid fire, and they die instantly. That in itself should tell you how OP their attack is. They can destroy Necromancers, becasue they don’t have reflects or ageis of any kind. Its easy to say “just dodge” but when you are fighting a mob, saving your dodges for one sniper is unrealistic. Especially when those guys with the hammers lay down their huge AoE attack.

This attack is perfectly avoidable by walking out even, 1 tick of it doesn’t kill you even in berserker gear.

This has been told to you repeatedly, and you still keep talking about that snipe attack.

We are talking about that Volley attack that hits 5x for 4k per crit. What part of this is confusing or hard to believe?

Yeah, if i have to teach you how to knockdown or stun or blind or daze or whatever, common man.

I honestly don’t believe they will launch without seriously testing the updraft mechanic, since it’s fairly important, and seeing how much the jump shrooms are hilariously bugging out.

BWE != every single beta ever.

They are doing plenty of testing behind the scenes.

I’m not stupid, i know this. However something as important as transitioning layers and movement troughout will be tested more. There’s a reason they are letting us keep the characters for next bwe.

Having a sniper spawn behind me and killing my zerk tempest in 1-hit is so ridiculous.

The only place I take zerker gear off is on Arah, WvW, and PvP. Since the snipers are a white common, I’ll have to add HoT to that list since I have to assume that snipers will eventually spawn behind me when I’m talking to npcs or something.

Its hard enough to get casuals with zerk gear on dungeons. Anet forcing cheap gear on people so they can survive HoT will make casuals with zerkers even rarer.

That actually sounds like a great development. Sounds to me like a lot of less new players who repeatedly kiss the floor in the literally first fight of the fist dungeon after reading how you can only run Berserk in such a poor, supereasy dungeons as AC is one because you would loose valuable time when running it in another, a little more stable gear and hinder your pro zerker friends by being incompetent or badly equipped.

I never use the word “zerk” on my lfgs. Getting 4 zerkers is a godsend, but usually there is only 1 other guy running with it.

More casuals running and learning with zerk is a good thing. The fact that you can get 1-hit while gliding or talking to npcs means more people will go and hide behind a wall of vit and toughness. I find the irony of you people telling us zerkers to l2p amusing.

The Beta is not hard. Everything else not named Mordrem sniper is not dangerous to me. The Veteran dinosaurs have pointless damage right now. The fact that I have to deal less damage to these mobs because of the Mordrem Sniper is pretty dumb.

You dont have to, these snipers take a long time to charge and have the most obvious tell in the game, i’m playing a rampager revenant and i’ve not been downed once by them in the last let’s say 2 hours i’m playing, and i’m melee… + Stop the kittening stories about being oneshot, it take at least 2 ticks of the line damage and these ticks are almost a second appart.

Tips for dealing with the snipers:
-Dodge when you see a target above your head, if it doesn’t directly go away don’t dodge again seems to be a little stuck sometimes. Obviously don’t move into other people.
-There are very clear lines on the ground, and unlike people think, they don’t oneshot, they do big damage ticks over time.
-Position yourself to the side of the mob, you’ll clearly see him turn around if he wants you.
-Once the line is laid down these mobs are terribly vunerable, doing nearly nothing for a full 2 seconds.

Easiest tactic for ranged, just dodge when you see the mark above your head, don’t stand on top of eachother.

For melee: dodge to the back of them and just hundred blades or spin to win or backstab or do your ghostly revenant tango, it’s all the same, they will be dead once it’s over.

I’m pretty sure your experience was “new class let’s check all the skills, alright let’s go, crap i forgot to dodge”
Just like mine was “3rd time, easy, crap i forgot to dodge”
This stuff happens, who cares.

Revenant is not perfectly balanced by a long shot, but it’s certainly capable of making it trough that intro without any kind of trouble.

Seriously, play till you have a glider, see if you still care…
I’m not kidding, it’s easy once you can glide.

Also comparing this map to Orr is an insult, this map is beautifully crafted and the mobs actually do pose some challenge, opposed to Orr, where they are filler content.
I think it’s fitting and very natural like it is now. And as said, if you don’t like it, glide up up and away.

I consider myself a pretty hardcore player (solo some fractals at lvl 50, lupicus etc). And wonder what? I died on my revenant right away. Then I tried with my warrior… and the enemies didn’t even touched me, what a faceroll.

The problem is NOT the story mobs being strong, it’s the revenant being awfully balanced for it and we are not used to it. It’s like leaving a level 1 player in a lvl 30 dungeon, of course he’ll die! he must to learn first.

Please don’t nerf them, just balance Revenant.

This is incorrect, i’ve done the story instance twice on revenant, both without being defeated, i’ve done it on a mesmer and i got punished for getting careless.

This has nothing to do with the class you play, it’s about dodging at the right time.
People get kittened cause they have to actually start using the dodge button.

You just can’t acces glider skins yet, so on a new character it’s standard. It would be like you could use skins on your armor but can’t see the wardrobe. they are in there just not available till the whole feature is in.

Agreed, mobs are far too tough … specifically the snipers(?) … I get that they are supposed to be a dangerous ranged opponent but unless you’re playing a profession/build with reflects or blocks they are deadly. Give them a little mordrem friend and they are incredibly dangerous. This is really offputting when just trying to get around the map during the day.

Veteran tigers are pretty easy, the stoneheads(?) are much harder … I can’t help but feel that their dash ability takes them too far; on a ranged profession I suspect they’d be a piece of cake but for melees the distance is huge, dragging the fight out longer than is actually fun.

Plz for the love of GW2, ignore everything said here. The mobs are tuned just fine, in fact i believe some are a bit undertuned. The big charging dino’s are a blast to fight especially when you are melee(altough they do get stuck behind rocks allot), and the snipers have a very very clear warning. I haven’t had this much fun since launch.

Almost..one thing is missing. Heavy has no class without wep swap.

Balance means one class not overshadowing other classes, weapon swap has nothing to do with this, as ele is a clear example of this. It doesn’t have to be 1 class per armor type that can’t weapon swap, altough they clearly started from this point, they added weapon swap just to make it more balanced… Balance is how classes match up vs eachother and not if 1 class has weapon swap or not. EDIT: Average, right. Beta’d Cata, which provided less new landmass to explore but redesigned a considerable chunk of the old world. No experience beyond that.

You are right about Cata, it did change allot and i only counted the new landmasses. But anyway, they damaged stormwind a little, we blew LA up :p

Yes i did, did you play the new map already? The 25% of that map has already more content then one of the zones in those expansions.

Swapping between melee and range? Cool, but ele doesnt have that and is still top tier in all game modes.

Ele does have this in the form of conjure weapons, ice bow is super popular.

Three legendaries?

You know, saying that legendaries are actual content so it’s good that we are not getting them is not the best argument.

Yes it is, we are getting 3 new legendary’s, not the same with crafting but actually content created specificly for them.

Stop thinking of them in the same way as the old legendary’s. They are not the same, and eventually everyone will have their pick, and when everyone has had one, they can just add more and more, without needing an actual group release.

I think it’s more about the lack of content we are getting. There’s arguments to be made on that of course, but with how little information we’ve gotten so far its easy to say this expansion isn’t living up to the expectations an “expansion” sets fourth.

This drives me kittening insane. Gw2 is like buying a season pass. The money you pay for this expansion is your season ticket for the entire season 3 and i think even 4 living world, and everything coming with that.

So even if HoT comes with fewer content then you expect, wich i honestly don’t believe could happen in a million years, coming from a company that made the GW1 “expansions” just stand alone games and then made GW2 allot bigger, even then, when you say, it’s not enough, you take no account for the worth you are getting out of the living world. Right now what i have seen, it’s already double if not tripple the content of a “Wow” expansion on it’s own. All classes are getting complete overhauls, new class, new areas way more vast then anything i’ve seen in wow or even GW2 itself, and i’ve seen only 25% of the first area. And may i remind you wow charges the same amount of money AND require a monthly fee, while actually having less content…

I want this game to improve like everyone, but seriously it’s time to stop fooling yourself. If you don’t trust that it’s worth the money they charge for it, DO NOT PREPURCHASE. More information will become available closer to the launch and if you prepurchased already without even having the slightest bit of faith in the company that is your own kitten fault. It does not entitle you to anything. I prepurchased because i love GW2 and all the content since launch to me was already worth allot more then the money i’m paying for an expansion now.

Indeed to test the system… these things aren’t perfect and have never been tested in live, if they bug out and give everyone 5000 t6 mats of each sort at least it’s not permanent :p

Celestial gear, the timegate

I just want to respond to some of the comments here, as there seem to be some misunderstandings. I don’t mind the timegate on ascended gear. I mind the timegate on exotics. And for a really simple reason: other exotics don’t have this time gate. Imagine, if in the future due to the introduction of hardcore content, one of the classes actually lands in a “celestial” meta. While another for example is best suited with knights, or berserker, or soldiers. At this point you have one character lvl 80 ding, instantly exotic or even ascended geared, and another lvl 80 ding, oh kitten i gotta wait.

The problem here isn’t the timegate, the problem is that armors of the same strenght, but different stats, require way way different effort to get. One you just craft or buy of the TP, one you HAVE TO craft and have to wait 30 days to do so. Ascended gear is fine (the armors) because ascended gear is all behind the same amount of time, so it’s equally hard to get, while the effort needed for the exotics is vastly different.

Crafting ascended gear directly isn’t a solution, since i want to actually test this in dungeon runs before i commit to it…

sidenote: Tbh i don’t understand why ascended gear isn’t account bound when made, but boe when put on, and allows us to swap stats like legendairy’s. This would make so much more sense to me. But i guess that bridge is burned. Right now i’m punished for liking racial skins, thx for that.

People get so worked up over nothing, these new legendary’s mean actual content, not just crafting like the old ones. But actual things you need to do. It’s been known for a long time not all would be in the release og HoT. But in terms of content this is already far more then the old legendary’s combined. I love the idea of a weapon meaning more then “hey look i can farm/buy about 3 k gold.”

Every class has 1 legendairy now, and i am ok with them dropping in skins on a more regular timeframe, and just release them when a certain track is ready, instead of waiting, and i also am excited to see these things tied to the story more, if at all possible. I believe a gradual release of skins suggests that tough.
