It is finally a chance for the more elite (not to be confused with elitist) side of the community to be allowed to show their skill and commitment

Lol. “not to be confused with elistist.” Lol. “It’s finally a chance for the bakers (not to be confused with those who bake. . .”

This kind of clearly states to me what you think about anyone who is better then you at the game, and how it kittenes you off.

Let me explain the difference. “The more elite” he mentions are people who want group content that is challenging, in wich they can better themselves and they live for the feeling of overcoming a challenge. To them a unique reward is like a badge of honor, a personal reminder of them overcoming the challenge, something they are proud off. These players also love teamwork and improving together.

Elitists are something totally different. They do not care about overcoming challenges, they care about 1 single thing, proving that they are better then others. Most elitists are actually not that good, and use thrashing others to make themselves feel better.
To them a reward is like bragging rights. They are a small outspoken minority, and it’s kittening me off that you keep putting all players who enjoy playing hardcore content, especially hardcore team based group content, in the same basket as these ignorant kittens.

Yeah, but the dungeons themselves don’t give a kitten. They do not have feelings to hurt if you don’t do them. This game is about the players, and the players want to do the things that they find fun. If exactly zero people ran dungeons in a given night, that would be perfectly fine, so long as the players were having fun.

Well once you take away the unique rewards of content, to me, you are taking away my fun, and i’m 100% sure that there are many people that think the same way as i do. Chasing unique rewards is my favorite thing to do in mmo’s. You know why? Because that is what mmorpg are built around. You cannot keep a game active as long as mmo’s are active with the system you are suggesting, wich is why i’m also sure A-net will never fall for it.

Dungeons may not be run for gold anymore but exactly because of the unique rewards, they will remain relevant for a long long time to whoever needs the skins.

Yes thanks to the exclusive rewards they will remain relevant, I never said otherwise. The question is for how long.

For as long as new players join the game, so basicly forever if the game keeps the growth up that is has atm. Also imo not more then 1% of the actual player base would have all the skins in dungeons atm. Sure the dungeon runners may be well on their way or may have reached this point, but it’s a very small minority imo.

Also Arah story mode is an extremely bad example since it did offer only 1 skin and then only if you were on the story step. The reason it was hard to find groups after a while is because if you weren’t on that story step, you had not a single reason to do it, this is why it’s now a soloable instance. (all other story dungeons can be used for lvling your character for example)

Imo the only paths that aren’t frequently run are Arah path 4 and the Aetherblade path. all others are basicly being run every single day. And in case of Arah (1,2,3) that has nothing to do with gold rewards.

If this content would not have these skins with tokens, then is would be dead content, right now however, because it has skins locked behind them, it stays relevant, and it will stay relevant to some degree for the rest of the duration of GW2’s lifespan, because it has actual incentives to go there, maybe not specificly to you, but to some players.

True enough, I’m just not sure I see that as a virtue. Yeah, people might still grind out dungeons for the tokens until they get all the various things, but is that really a positive thing?

For the dungeons themselves it is a positive thing, since it keeps them running. But the thing is, even if new players want the tokens for the skins, if the old players already moved on, it will be harder and harder to find players to run them. Creating another potential problem, if older players are unwilling to keep running dungeons, since they got all the unique rewards already, then new players will have nobody to run it with (or learn from) We don’t how much the upcoming nerf will hurt dungeon running in the long run, but it might be significant, or it might not affect running at all. We’ll see how it works in practice.

The greatest example was Arah Story mode, it has a great exclusive reward, finishing the Personal Story, yet because the material rewards from it were so abysmally low, compared to the time required (Arah Story has LOADS of standing around and waiting, making it awful to experience a second time) few players wanted to re-run Arah Story Mode after they got their exclusive reward, so Anet made it possible to solo it.

Maybe that’s the future of the other dungeons too, being doable solo, but only time will tell if that ever happens. The other solution would be to add more value to those tokens, maybe revert the ecto salvage rate nerf from rare dungeon gear, so they become more profitable in another way. But I doubt they care, they even said so.

You are mistaken here, i’m sorry.
There is no hard seperation between old and new, there is from launch players who have all the unique rewards already, sure, but there are also players that play since 1 year or less, who are still actively getting the rewards, you see this often because they want to run all the paths each day, not just the easy ones.
This idea that there is a bunch of people that have all the skins, and then a bunch of inexperienced people, and nothing in between is so wrong. People that we considdered inexperienced a few months ago are learning you know, there will always be people trying to get that last skin, the experienced ones, and people trying to get the first skin, the inexperienced ones. Dungeons may not be run for gold anymore but exactly because of the unique rewards, they will remain relevant for a long long time to whoever needs the skins. Also i think you are a bit kitteny if you think newer people won’t be able to complete a dungeon run because they don’t have an experienced player with them. I mean sure, it would go faster if they used all the speedrun stacking spots, but it’s not like dungeons are super hard in the first place.

True enough, I’m just not sure I see that as a virtue. Yeah, people might still grind out dungeons for the tokens until they get all the various things, but is that really a positive thing? I think that when dungeons stop being the “meta” activity, they should fill two roles, either 1. You do them once each path to experience each, or as many times as it takes for you to stop enjoying the experience itself, or 2. they provide a level of generic loot that makes them worth running if you want to, but gives you no reason to run them if you do not.

I do not believe that players should be given particular reason to grind them out for any length of time longer than “because I’m having fun,” the instant someone stops enjoying it they should be able to drop everything and never come back, without abandoning any specific rewards in the process.

And that would make them irrelevant, and players may still want to do them, but parties for dungeons would not be seen that often. Like it or not, these rewards in dungeons keep them relevant to a point where new players will not have any problems finding parties for them, no matter how bad the gold reward is, because people will still be doing them for skins. No generic reward can have this effect. Wich is why unique rewards are imo essential for any group content, so it can stay relevant. This is proven just by how much the “non speedrun”-paths are being run in this game.
Take Honor of the Waves as an example, the speedrun path is clearly path 1, but nearly every time i do it people ask at the end: “2 and 3 aswell?” because they are getting an item, and they want to get it faster. If gold reward was the only reason people did dungeons, then the fastest path would only be ran and you’d have the same problem.

People will not group for group content if it rewards less then solo content, because grouping takes effort, unless there is something there that you cannot get in that solo content.

Balancing the entire game around gold rewards that are ‘worth_ running if you want to, but gives you no reason to run them if you do not’ is something impossible imo. And even then i do not see it as a bad thing at all that skins give people reason to run these, because i do not agree with you on how skins should not be locked behind content. If i like a skin but i don’t like the content, i honestly either get over it and try it anyway (who knows i may like it after all) or i don’t get the skin, and i’m fine with that. I LOVE that i can’t get everything and that sometimes i envy other players, it gives me reason to keep playing.

Actually unique rewards are the reason dungeons will always have some people doing them, maybe not us but a newer generation of GW2 players who want the skins, or maybe people that need the tokens for their generation 1 legendary. The content is by no means made irrelevant by a gold nerf, just made irrelevant for farming day in day out for gold.

Guild Raid Testing

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Fox.3469

Fox.3469

Without the input of top PvE players, there’s little chance the raids will turn out well.

Just look at how fast and easily the boss was downed in the beta. I doubt they intended for that to happen as they were supposedly showcasing their new hard/challenging content. In fact they’re probably in panic mode, hence the invitations.

Losing the idea of “world first” is definitely worth it when the alternative are raids that will be easily completed a couple hours after they launch.

Umm i just want to tell you that they made the boss down easy. In fact Team A theorycrafted over 5 hours and had many practices, and not only that but individually they are excellent players. Also it took them 10+ tries not including the figuring out mechanic part, many being leaving the boss at 0.1% health before wiping. Team B spent much less time to kill the Vale Guardian nonetheless, but it took us a good solid 6 hours+ before we were able to kill him.
And 1 mechanic of the Vale Guardian is missing, so you have to take that into consideration as well. Also out of many, many raid teams, how many actually have killed the Vale Guardian? I’m sure EU could have done it too without the unfortunate schedule, but I am sure the percentage is very small compared to the entire active GW2 population.

I hope they make more designs like this, and I don’t mind the rise in difficulty after DnT/Att’s feedback, but it saddens me to see when people think the Vale Guardian was easy to kill when it fact it took us all the weekends to theorycraft, practice, and execute the mechanic. And I can’t stress this enough, that all of our members in our guild, are all tested and tried veterans who were very adept at their class.

Yes, there was a lot of work put in to prepare for the beta, no doubt. I meant easy as a relative term: when you’re touting how hard and challenging your new content is and it gets done in just a few hours, that’s too “easy.”

In the end, the boss was defeated well within the time limit, and despite an extremely limited amount of play time available. The important thing is that once something has been done, the builds and techniques are out there and it soon becomes routine.

Within a few short weeks, regular (non-elite) guilds will be doing it first try. For content that’s gated weekly, that means their new flagship content will account for very little total playtime. And as Anet is all about the metrics, that means raids will be abandoned development-wise in short order.

They either need to be made significantly harder or the time-gate has to be decreased (or both). So it’s good to have some elite players giving input on what I presume is the former.

While it’s good they have more testing on the raids, you are seriously overreacting.
Go watch Wp’s video on raids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXf9qlihYoM
Calm the kitten down and be realistic, this idea that some people are beating this is an indicator that it’s to easy is such a stupid argument.

legendary weapons are by no means getting more grindy, not at all. The only person that would think this is the case is one that would buy his precursor with a credit card. No offense. Getting 700 to 1500 gold for a precursor is at least as grindy as collections, and collections are interesting gameplay of wich you can check progress and have fun imo. Grinding gold is not.

Mastery system is account based, so far less grindy then most things we have seen until now.

Seriously what do you expect that the expansion would just give you things? what’s the fun in that? We’ve had no progression for about 2 years now so honestly kitten.

If they would change the reward system to what you suggest, i would 100% quit the game, no matter how awesome the actual content is, no matter that i’m an officer in my guild and i love playing with them.

I don’t think it would be worth the time trying to keep so fragile a player invested in the game.

I’m not a fragile player, anything else changing, even tough i don’t like it, would not affect me at all. I play this game because i enjoy spending time in it, and working towards different goals. I love everything about it right now, except the fact atm there isn’t any good really hard content, wich should be fixed in HoT. When discussing this mmo with other people i’ll keep defending it and explaining why it is great, what you are suggesting tough, would crush the game in it’s sense of being a good mmo, since all good mmo’s have a decent reward structure. It’s what mmo’s are build uppon. One cannot keep players invested in a game for a super long time without goals to work for. So yeah i would quit if they would be stupid enough to destroy one of the core aspects of what makes mmo’s fun for me. Does that make me a fragile player? Hell no.

Btw i use the cash shop just the same as you do, why are your moneys more worth then my moneys, that’s a stupid argument.

The question becomes, are there more people who are hardcore and want exclusionary content, or more people who are not hardcore and don’t want to be excluded? If the former, then there should be some level of exclusionary content, if the latter, then there shouldn’t be. Neither side has any particular moral highground in the discussion, they are both just pushing for the game that would make them happiest.

Unfortunately for you, this isn’t the question at all. The question is wich system will keep the most people playing the game. Certain rewards not being available may be frustrating to some people, but it isn’t something gamebreaking that’s gonna make them say, meh kitten this game, i’m done, if they like the other aspects of it.

When you take away unique rewards tough, actively changing the entire system, that will have an effect of certain people leaving the game, more then i think you realise.

And that’s what it comes down to, if you really don’t like a certain aspect of the game, but you can look over it and just play anyway, you aren’t of any concern to Arenanet.
If they would change the reward system to what you suggest, i would 100% quit the game, no matter how awesome the actual content is, no matter that i’m an officer in my guild and i love playing with them. Your suggestion would basicly ruin this platform of social and coöperative fun for me in such a way that i wouldn’t be able to bring myself to play it. I don’t think this will ever happen, because the devs are smarter then that imo, but if it does i’ll remember you, the idiot who ruined a great mmo for me. Cheers.

So your argument is people would get kicked more often?

My argument is people would be kicked for reasons they cannot help, for random factors happening in the fight. I extended my post with an example.

How often would this happen though, is the question, isn’t’ it?

I can buy, without proof, that it would happen some. But whether it would happen with any sort of frequency is anyone’s guess, as far as I can tell. Seems like the frequency would depend a lot on the community’s attitude in general.

Not at all, meters highly encourage this behaviour, i’m no stranger to the feeling myself, if i topped dps meters in wow and we didn’t down a boss, that made me just a little irritated, even if i was playing with close friends or people i knew who were skilled. The feeling that you top the meters is great, but it comes with a feeling that others maybe just don’t put as much effort into it as you do. It ranks party members in a way that is irrelevant to the actual gameplay. Pve should not in any way rank party members. Because once you rank people the ones on the lower part of the ranking will always be considdered “dragging the team down”, even if it’s in the back of people’s mind. This is plainly counterproductive to team spirit.

We have already seen a lot of elitism and toxicity in regards to whether or not you have the proper gear or playing the proper build even without DPS meters. if you think that it won’t get at least as bad if not worse with meters added in, you’re kidding yourself. So yes there are benefits, but there are also a lot of unpleasant consequences, & a lot of people, myself included, feel the consequences outweigh the benefits by a vast Margin.

I want to make a quick point here: If you already see a lot of elitism and toxicity even with meters, why do you think meters would make a big difference?

Because unlike the two other options, meters don’t show objectively what happens in the game. If people want only full ascended, sure, if they want people with certain builds, that’s fine also imo (in guild groups this is how it works anyway, you try and beat the boss as a team, and look for the optimal way together, if you want to pug, then you gotta go with what the leader wants, or start your own pug) however, dps meters, even if only in raids (wich i doubt it would be and that’s a problem by itself) do not give an accurate representation of skill at all. A certain person can do less dps but be way more skilled, because in that certain attempt of the boss, he had to dodge a whole lot while other people got lucky on positioning. Some of those people may have just straight up died if they got into a situation like the first person got into, but because of a number on a meter that first person now gets kicked. Meters do not represent skill, while armor is a pure stat increase (granted some people may be more skilled and have less armor, and thereby do better, but this is irrelevant to making a pug group, since you want at least optimal gear if you have all people you don’t know) and build is something the leader of a pug group should always have controll over. (not telling you to change, but if they demand a certain type of warrior, for example PS right now in fractals, then it’s their right to do so since they made the group and you got to meet what they want if you want to join, you can always create your own)

Imagine if a certain boss has a mechanic where you have to run out of the group or you blow up the entire group. You get this mechanic on you 6 times, while other people have it once or don’t have it at all. You execute this mechanic perfectly, yet you are kicked because you didn’t do enough dps. Meters don’t show that you were moving away from your group to not blow them up actively using movement skills rather then dpsing, meters also don’t show you missed 25 stacks of might because you had to be away from your group due to the mechanics of the fight.

And here’s the problem, if you add meters, people tunnel vision on them.

I believe this all stems from the idea that the first fight was somehow a dps check, rather then a mechanics check. Some of the people that downed him had minutes left on their timer, this isn’t a dps check fight, people just hit the enrage because they didn’t execute the mechanics correctly.

Somehow you may be right.

By just not putting that timer in, oh how much of this drama could have been spared.

Isn’t that above all a much stronger argument against enrage “timers”, just to cut all the drama and start get playing against cool encounter mechanics ?

No, the enrage timer is needed, you didn’t understand my point. I’m saying the dps over all wasn’t the most important thing why people hit the enrage, it was the mechanics. The enrage is there to ensure people do the fight as intended. If you don’t have this enrage you allow the fight to be cheesed into oblivion, and this can’t be intended. Enrage timers serve a purpose even in GW2, but it has nothing to do with dps but with correct teamplay and execution of mechanics.

Let me give you an example, in most groups that failed because of the enrage timer, i saw nearly everyone runs to the orbs to catch them, even melee sometimes, this is a huge loss in dps BECAUSE the mechanics aren’t executed properly. This doesn’t have anything to do with the armor people are wearing, but rather with not doing damage because of the mechanic fail. And it should be like this. If you don’t have an enrage timer everyone can run to the orbs and catch them, making this fight much easier.

If you truly believe that ANet can and should do whatever they want, then step out of the way, let the players make their case, and let ANet decide. If you truly believe that whatever ANet decides is the right way to go, then you have no reason to get involved in the discussion.

This is comming from someone who has been assaulting other people for having a certain opinion… We aren’t the one starting this discussion mate, every single one of the people that is making the argument against you is someone who’s opinion you started bashing. I and many others will let it go, if you stop belittling people for their opinion. As you said, it’s up to Arenanet, so stop reposting your opinion 5000 times, they know it already…

I thought this bullkitten posting would be over once the original raid topic dropped a few pages, but here we go again. Your argument is clear, and it’s something the devs will have read by now, it’s up to them to decide to follow you in it or not, creating another 40 pages textbook will not help your case.

No it wouldn’t. we have been over this for the last 3 years.

Doing so would mean no new content. till the launch of the console version.

GW2 not going to console has many reasons, and i think it shouldn’t ever go to console, but this is pure bullkitten, console versions aren’t created by the creative team, they are created by people who specialise on making alternate versions, this has absolutely no impact on content releases.

the raid ui being late, i don’t mind since raids are later itself, but why does the general ui have to be delayed? I know it’s probally a technical thing, but playing together at HoT launch would be so much easier with the new ui then with party’s

Is HoT pay to win?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Fox.3469

Every other mmo raises the lvl cap with it’s expansion making anyone who buys the expansion 10 times stronger then someone who doesn’t, yet you never hear anyone mention pay to win, people think it’s normal. GW2 doesn’t do this, for very good reason, and then it’s somehow ok to expect perfect balance, because otherwise the game is pay to win?
Who are we kidding here?

Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Fox.3469

Fox.3469

True and the only difference is that when you wan to do a dungeon you can pretty much always find other players that want to do the same content as you at that time without much effort needed. When it comes to other things that may not always be the case and brings more problems than solves. I’m on NA and thank for your offer to help though.

You are wrong, at any time in the evening, just look for people in the group finder, or ask in LA. Say:" Small guild could use some help with mission, would appreciate some help. Can guestinvite if you need commendations."
Make a “Guest” role in your guild with no permissions, so these people do get some rewards for their effort if they want to, you can remove them after the mission.
You will have a group of people to do your missions in the same time as it takes to form your party for dungeons.

Seriously people if you want to be taken serious, don’t put drama in your topic title, it’s so immature.

“I’m worried about class balance in raids.” is so much better then “It WILL kill raids” . Is this to much to ask…

Good job adding boss timers for raids....

Mate honestly how do you think people should have done, most of the elite specs are brand new, revenant is brand new. There are 2 reasons people were hitting the enrage mechanic.

1)People are still learning these new specs, they don’t have a full comprehension of their class yet.
2)People don’t understand the fight mechanics fully yet. Melee keeps getting teleported all over the plays by the blue rocks mechanic, and everyone runs to the orbs to catch them while only 4 people need to do so.

Matt’s group in particular was him and WP on voice chat, and the rest just basicly not hearing them live. This is not and never will be a good option to do the raid.
As to support not helping, a good guardian can basicly prevent anyone from being teleported away, since you can actually block the teleport so aegis right at the good time does not make your group of melees flie all over the map, a tanky character can keep the boss in place, rather then making him run all over the place. And heals can keep people dpsing instead of going down, wich happened allot even in the fights that got him down. A character pumping out swiftness or super speed will help the 4 ranged assigned to catching the orbs.

Don’t get me wrong, we will never get a “soldier meta”, that’s not what we want and it’s not what A-Net wants. And that’s where people mistake the devs, no more zerker meta doesn’t mean no more glass specs, it means if you want to run those that you will benefit from having some supporty specs aswell. Wich is certainly the case with this boss.

Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

I’m all for 5 man guilds being able to do everything 500 man guilds can, below that however, i don’t agree.

You can make a party for dungeons so you can make a party for guild missions and capturing your hall. This games community is very friendly and willing to help.
In fact you can add me if you need help capturing the hall on eu (that goes for any guild needing this in HoT), but group content should not scale down to 1 person.

The fact that people are taking the ascended “requirement” scares me the difference between the 2 is laughable and arguably impossible to truly optimize a raid around

Tbh it’s a bit the same like having food buffs on, it’s probally not that much of a difference but it can just give you that edge to down a boss (i saw a group wipe at 1% or less on the vale guardian on a stream, and the streamer didn’t have his food on, i facepalmed :p)

Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Fox.3469

Fox.3469

I don’t care what rules the players set, it’s on them to do what they wish. Thinking the raids are going to need the gear, or that it’s going to be a very significant factor in raid success isn’t really thinking it through.

~~~
I should add, that it’s likely the first dozen or 3 raids to beat this stuff will be in ascended — mostly because they already have it. The people likely to be able to beat this content quickly are likely the players who already play alot and who already have that ascended gear + plenty of mats.
I agree with you, it’s more of a time thing imo. When people grasp the content and get it completely, you actually get room to work with the time you actually have over, but as of the start of the raids, of course having that 1% more damage may just mean that the boss dies instead of your group wiping.
When pushing an enrage mechanic it enforces better gear, but once the fight gets mastered, and we do efficient damage, you will have some time to work with.
(take the vale guardian, right now many people in full ascended are hitting the enrage, but when you master the fight, when you don’t loose any dps catching the orbs for example because a ranged group nails that completely, then you start having extra time to work with.)
I’m pretty sure some guilds will see it as a hard mode raid challenge, to clear every boss with exotics after they cleared the wing in ascended, wich is cool that it’s possible because of the difference between the 2 stat sets being so small.
Enhanced Squad UI Feedback
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Fox.3469
Fox.3469
Ok so here’s my feedback:
-The squad commander needs icons to put on people’s head or mobs head. Right now we have only 1 thing, wich is target. That is not enough for raids, and even other gametypes can benefit from it. (Example, when we did the quagan guild challenge, where you have to escort them to safety from the krait, we had to split up in party’s, and then rejoin the squad after, while marking a few people, and just dividing groups would help this.
-Wich brings me to: big open world squads need the same ammount of group sorting tool as raid squads. At the very least we should be able to move people.
-There needs to be some kind of condi indication for raids.
-Atm i can’t invite people outside of my own map, i hope that’s a bug, if not, that should be changed.
Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Fox.3469
After trying out the raid encounter, i think it will be perfectly possible for groups with perfect coördination to run this in exotics, however anything less then the best groups and it becomes a problem. Full ascended groups hit the enrage yesterday because they didn’t have a grasp of the fight enough to actually be able to do enough dps in that time.
This isn’t meant to be pug content anyway so if your guild is ok with you rocking some exotics then that’s ok.
