It all comes down to this: “Does a raid having a unique skin mean that you now absolutely have to do that content?”

The answer is no.

All just as true as it is irrelevant.

What it really comes down to is this: "does it benefit anyone to have players in a game doing activities that they do not want to do?

The answer is no.

I don’t even understand your argument anymore. You don’t have to do activities you don’t want to do, that is the entire point of only cosmetics being rewards.

It would be far more damaging to the game to have little to no incentive to do content then it would be to have some skins locked to that content.

My basis is the population currently playing, and therefore likely comfortable with the game in its current state. I look at the population, not what individual members say, but what the players actually do, and think it’s reasonable to believe that they are content with content of the style that GW2 currently provides. I believe that the people who currently play the game, do so because it is NOT the sort of high pressure, high stakes game that raiding typically involves. If they did want that sort of game, they have plenty of options for it, so why would they be playing GW2 instead?

The game in it’s current state has tons of unique rewards aswell. In my eyes unique rewards are far more embedded into this game then “no raiding” is. Yet somehow you want to change all that, the core reward system of the entire game, but sure raiding being added is far worse. I don’t see how anyone can oppose adding more things to do in the game. If you don’t want to do it, don’t raid, it’s as simple as that.
If you really believe that GW2 as it currently is should stay like this and offer just the content it does now, because people like it, then it should also keep it’s reward system, because people seem to like that aswell right? If that is so, then this is purely about raiding, something you claimed it wasn’t. If this is false then you are again applying double standards for what you like and what you don’t like.

Is it so kitten hard to make a decent argument for what you would want without making unfounded claims about what the playerbase wants? If you need to justify it like that it’s probally not a very good argument in the first place.

Yes, which is representative of nothing more than that, which is why we don’t use forum posts as a measure of anything. It’s worth noting, on the other hand, that there are also only 4-6 of your guys that actually disagree with me too, so if you are going to use forum numbers, keep in mind that they aren’t far apart, which is rather exceptional considering that this is a thread about raiding, and therefore you would expect to have overwhelming support of raids

Learn to count, over 40 different people in the last 15 pages alone. Stop making up stuff. Seriously, this is like arguing vs a creationist.

By a vocal minority on the forums, you said to me a few pages ago i can’t prove that many people want raids of a vocal minority asking them on the forums, so only you can use the forums in your advantage right? You are using 2 standards to justify your claims and devalue mine.

I’m saying “by the same standards.” So fine, if you want to dismiss that point from my side, then the similar points from the other go too, I’m comfortable with that.

Yet you base your entire argument on how people would want a system like the one you are suggesting, and you have absolutely no base to prove that. Even if we look at the forums alone, i’ve not seen more then 3 or 4 people even remotely agree with you. And maybe some more casual players would like this idea, and they aren’t on the forums, but again, you have NO stats at all to prove it, and the game currently doesn’t follow your system, and the more popular content updates all had exclusives behind them. You cannot claim that people support you in any way, so don’t, argue from you and stop claiming you have large support.

So if you can provide evidence that there is a massive groundswell of people that would be upset if they could get the armor skins, but not get the titles? Then fine, maybe titles wouldn’t work, maybe there would be nothing exclusive that would work, but I remain convinced that far more players would care about exclusive skins than would care about exclusive armor, and see no point to seriously discussing people that do not exist.

Where is your evidence that there is a a massived groundswell of people that is upset that some skins are exclusive? GW2 had exclusive skins locked behind content from day one. You claim that everything that has been succesfull at GW2 supports your argument, but it really doesn’t. Fractals, dungeons, tequatl and the wurm, sPvP and even WvW, and recently silverwastes and drytop, all have exclusive skins in some form, all the living story has had exclusive skins, certain achievements have exclusives behind them. And yet people are playing GW2 and the game is doing just fine. There is nothing with how rewards currently work in GW2 that supports your argument that people would even want this change.
Raids are just another type of content, and they follow the reward structure that gw2 has had since launch.

All you’re doing is judging people without understanding or trying to understand why people want exclusive rewards. Trying to demonise their arguments as less intellegent or insinuating that everyone who wants exclusive rewards just wants to be happy about someone elses misery. That’s pretty low, imo.

If you had any empathy you would’ve agreed to disagree. Because all this discussion is about is two “sides” wanting two different games.

Totally agree with this.
People who do want exclusives have been ridiculed and demonised by him, for really no good reason. Saying others are dumb and stupid is of course an easy way to just bully yourself trough an argument, however i don’t think it’s the right way to bring your point to the attention of the devs. In fact it devalues the entire discussion and if you want to change the current system, that is exactly what you don’t want to do. Anyway if he wants to keep going and respond to every single person that disagrees with him, i’m fine with that. Each reply where he disrespects other people just because they don’t agree with him, makes it more and more likely that his ideas will never find it’s way into our game.

It is also shown by the fact that you did not mind if titles where exclusive but with skins it was a problem. Why? some people might add more value to titles then to rewards so then they should also be able to do everything they like to earn those titles.?

Look, if someone else wants to make the case that titles are truly essential to them, that they genuinely would mind if raiders wanted exclusive titles? Then I would not argue against them, but that’s their case to make and I would not make it for them because I do not believe it myself. Until such people do appear, I have to consider that a straw man argument, and hold to my belief that the overwhelming majority of players would be content with having access to the skins, and not also demand access to the titles.

His argument is totally valid tough, skins are that important to you, but maybe some people value titles more, you can’t just pick and choose, if you want to rework the entire reward system (wich is what you are suggesting) and have no more skins exclusive, but keep titles exclusive, then you are just having 2 standards, one for the thing you care about, and one for the thing you don’t care about. Your argument for skins is in my eyes just as ignorant as someone who would want to buy a raid title without ever setting foot into a raid. Just like you see nothing wrong with titles being exclusive (at least i hope), we see nothing wrong with skins being exclusive.

I have to considder your argument just as weak and unfounded in reality, because i hold to my belief that the overwhelming majority of players would be content with not having access to the all the skins in the game. To most people, if exclusivity was something that would really bother them, then they wouldn’t be playing mmo’s in the first place.

Which you should recognize as a problem, yet seem to refuse to do so.

It’s not a problem with the content if a player refuses to join a team to do it. If someone wants to play an MMORPG solo avoiding joining teams then it’s not the content’s problem. Those solo players don’t have to get all the rewards the game has to offer, some will obviously require a team effort and be out of the league of solo players.

Also, it’s not the content’s problem if players want to play in a specific way and can’t adapt to it. I was once doing Crucible of Eternity and to make the Subject Alpha easier players go in melee range and hug Subject Alpha. Yet there was that person who said “I don’t want to hug him, he is too ugly” (true story) and staying at range he missed might stacks, he forced extra red circles to appear, he was away of rez range and in general made the content harder than it should be.

I’m sorry but I don’t see why the game should offer all its rewards to all kinds of players. Some content will be unavailable to them, and it’s a good thing that it will be.

This is my main problem with his stance, buying the game does not automaticly mean you have to be able to get every reward. It means you can play the game. Certain rewards need a group, wich is only logical to me, and to most players i know. Just not to him. I bet he hasn’t even bothered asking the community ingame if they agree with him or not. It’s just a solo opinion.

you do know, in other mmo’s raids do require stacking somewhere at some point, right? This isn’t a bad mechanic, as long as it is part of the bossfight and not some cheese way to LoS and break the fight.

I’d love for them to have a fight where someone gets a bomb on their head and blows up everyone next to him 3 seconds after tough :p.

The only thing raids need to avoid is that fights can be bugged/cheesed out

The data mine says 170. Just hope they’re wrong and will modify it, since 170 skill points across 8 alts is DUMB

Plus if they add a second elite spec for each class, then it’s simply impossible to unlock everything even with map completion.

That’s the main reason i think they won’t go for it, unless somehow you earn skillpoints in different ways in HoT.

Because it would be a cool feature? If transmogs were free i would change the way i look twice a day :p Most of the people getting this armor probally will keep the skin on, but i don’t like flashy skins all to much, i think it would just be a cool addition to what legendary armor is. And no i don’t swim in transmutation charges, i use them way to often. I get my fix from swapping gearsets right now, most of my chars have a few exotic sets next to the ascended one to swap around, but when legendary armor is a thing, there’s no need to swap anymore. I would get bored if i got stuck into one skin.

Fractals is being improved so you can do a single run instead of 3 and a boss fractal. It also is raised in lvl and rewards, getting a brand new masterie track and new fractal weapons.

Guild halls will be available since you can ask people to come along to help you capture one, they don’t have to be in your guild to do it. Guild missions are getting a rework, maybe some of those will be interesting for you now.

Adventures seem to be cool to do with a few people and see who can get the highest score, from what i’ve seen in beta, me and 2 other guildies had a ton of fun with this.

For the rest there is open world content.

I know this is most likely not going to happen, but i would love it if legendary armor could be freely transmogged. I love playing in different outfits and right now i use my different gear sets for all my outfit swapping, but even if the legendary armor skin is amazeballs, i would still love to have a different set on from time to time. Since the stats are being able to swap, i would really like it if transmogs on this armor could be free.

Plz? :p It would make this set so much more attractive to go for :p. I know 90% will probally wear the skin as a form of status, but for those who don’t this would be awesome. (maybe retroactively add this to weapons aswell if people would want that?)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It all boils down to this: There is no content that you can’t do because you don’t have gear for it, or the attunement for it. Once you reach lvl 80 you can do whatever you want, even in green or gold gear. Ascended is the best stat and it can be totally gotten trough gameplay or even just logging in. It can also be gotten trough crafting. With rewards you get from any 80 gameplay.

I’m willing to accept things as they are when I must, but if I see a better way, I will push for that change as best I’m able. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t, that seems lazy or fatalistic to me. If you can improve something, seek to improve it as best you can, don’t give up just because you find it challenging or unlikely that you can succeed.

In the same way i’m trying to make sure that never happens, cause it will make the game way worse in my opinion, i think it could even destroy it. Thankfully i think the devs are on my side for now. I have to commend your for your effort but i do question how much you actually play this game when writing an essay on the forums nearly every day. I hope the devs do read and think about your post, but i also hope they realise you aren’t more valuable then the one person who comments, “wohoo raids i love it, thank you A-Net” and then never posts in this thread again.

Then again, at this point i think the devs have gotten your message loud and clear, i think they even know you by name around Arenanet now… So why keep going? It would be nice for some other people to be able to put an opinion in this topic, but all i see is a war of several people vs Ohoni, both sides won’t convince the other, that much is clear by now. I think this quotewar is smuthering other people’s opinion, on both sides, and there is only one guy who can stop it. See you ingame.

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fox.3469

Fox.3469

A few very important points to me.

-Rewards would be so much better, if people got awarded stacks based on participation. Bronze:1 Silver:2 Gold:3 This would make people stick around the event and finish it instead of insane event hopping, wich isn’t fun.

-There needs to be system in place to help with disconnects. Even when the disconnects aren’t on your end. If someone’s power falls out while farming an event, that’s nothing you can help, but the buff should stay on that character so that when he logs back in, if the event is still going, he can continue, and if the event is over, he gets his rewards.

-These events need to follow eachother closer, not having such a huge gap. The event time is also just a bit to long imo. A better system would be 20/25 mins events 5/10 mins break.

-The events themselves need to reward experience, especially in such a low lvl area. Right now i have to advice news players to just ignore them. Wich is such a shame…
I wouldn’t have a problem if it only rewarded xp to sub lvl 80’s, that way more people would play their alts and event mobs wouldn’t die in 1 second.

-Scaling of the normal mobs is to low. I know the normal mobs aren’t supposed to be hard, but if there is a zerg there, they need to at least be up for 2 seconds.

-When you are giving rewards from the living world season 1 and old gemstore things, there need to be more items to choose from. In a way this event punishes loyal players for already having everything on that list. The only thing worth buying for me is the scarlet box since that can drop a rare dye. That’s a bit sad.

-Mordremoth is pretty stupid. By wich i mean his invasions don’t mean a thing, since he’s not invading outposts and settlements around the map. Imo a dragon would strike with more clear targets. Yet the npc’s around the map don’t even know something is going on. Have events spawn next to villages, have the npc’s fight the event and die, needing to be rezzed. Make it have some impact into the world.
A mordrem event spawning in the middle of Meatoberfest for example, that would seem like the dragon is actually impacting the world.

Hero points needed for new elite specs?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Fox.3469

Fox.3469

Currently you get 398 hero points from leveling and 213 from hero challenges (according to the wiki). The 398 are exactly enough to unlock all core skills and traits. The remaining 213 points can then be used to unlock the elite specialization’s skills, traits and items.

That is unacceptable tough, that means you can’t unlock elite specs trough WvW and you have to do pve content to unlock these specs.

In the same way, there is no reason you are representative of a larger body of support either.

Eeeeeeh, I think your position there is a little less tenable. I certainly don’t have absolute proof of my numbers, but just based on the trends of what has and hasn’t worked for this game over the past three years, I think it’s far more reasonable to assume that most of the players in the game are not the hardcore raider types.

First of all i’m not even gonna react to the hot room thing, because it’s silly and the analogy isn’t even close to correct, try to discuss this like an adult will you.

People play GW2 for different reasons yes that is true, however your mistake is thinking people who like hardcore content only like this type of content. I myself love raiding in other mmo’s, yet i still love GW2 and i loved GW1. Liking whatever you like in GW2 now, does not in whatever reason exclude you from liking hardcore content. This illusion that all GW2 players fit into some kind of twisted mold needs to stop. GW2 is played by all kinds of people, and enjoyed by all kinds of people. You need to stop making up stuff, and claiming you have for some reason a good idea of what the playerbase wants, because you don’t. Neither do i for that matter, however i don’t claim to know.
We don’t even have the numbers of how many people do what content, and even then it would be hard to tell.
Again, i have no problem with your argument, and while i don’t agree with it, i respect the concept that you don’t want unique rewards. However, it is your opinion, and without actually asking around, you have no right to say most people would agree with you. I actually asked around, ingame, in all my guilds at primetime, about 30 people replied, none of them agreed with you. This is of course a very small sample size, but it’s better then making up stuff.

No, and I never said that they were, or that I cared whether they were or not. But they are wearing a skin I might like to have, and would not be able to have, and that is FAR worse than if they were just more powerful than me.

You do realise if stats would increase but skins would be available that the entire community would riot right? No powercreep is one of the biggest selling points in GW2, and i can’t believe you find skins more important. I think this makes it finally clear to me that you have absolutely no clue why people actually play GW2, in my opinion. I could be wrong of course, but i just asked in my guild again, 6 people were online, and i posted this comment of yours. 5 of them reacted, all saying things like “Wait what….” and “Oh hell no”.

Why I quit GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fox.3469

Fox.3469

Ok so you release the season 1 living world special items that you needed to be playing at that time to receive those items, but you only release certain items i.e. fused gauntlets and the selfless potion. Why haven’t you released the other skins? I felt like it was cool when I had skins like the fused gauntlets and selfless potion but now that everyone can get them again even for a short time aren’t so special anymore are they? If you plan on releasing EVERY single skin this way that would be fine but it does not look like anytime soon ill be able to get shattered holographic wings, fleshy wings or any of the rest of the achievement only skins from past events also Super Adventurer Box Skins and Finisher, I mean come on its harder to get a Fused weapon skin then it is to make a legendary at least make some similar or better looking black lion weapons instead of these crappy past 6-8 releases of them. It would cost 1000$+ to get one even if you saved up 1000g already. I honestly thought the Selfless potion would be the LAST thing you would release or at least all the skins before it first. Well I guess GW2 team likes 3 year veterans who played GW1 and GW2 since they were first released to feel like they cant get anything new because it costs real life money or who knows how long of playing 6 hours+ every day to get enough to buy a new skin or never have that skin even after patiently waiting a year or 2 not to mention the achievement skins, Anet its so lame that the only new skins released in the past year that was actually cool looking was hellfire armor and NOBODY can EVER get the full set even after 6 years I’m sure. So the players who play this game for mostly looks and cosmetic stuff should just quit because you’ll never get anything new unless you pay real life money or wait for 3-6 MORE years. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on this game and I’m just saying, what a waste of every single penny.

Thanks, not.

Plz send me all your stuff. I can use it to buy my own fused skin.

2. “A lot” is highly misleading. The sum total of these players in the grand scheme of the game make up only about 0.5% of the total population, if that.

In the same way, there is no reason you are representative of a larger body of support either. Yet you are making constant claims of “the majority of players” and “most people in this game”, even “The sum total of these players in the grand scheme of the game make up only about 0.5% of the total population” is a claim that has no base in evidence. Stop making up support for your issue, discuss what you want, sure, and ask around in your guild and use that as a reference to support your argument, no problem. But stop making up stuff. You have no idea what number of the playerbase thinks what, neither do i, and the only claim you’ll ever see me make is that i personally have not met anyone who thinks like you ingame. And that when i asked around in my guild, they strongly disagreed with you. That is all i can say, because i have no evidence other then that. Neither do you, so stop the bullkitten argument that you somehow magicly know a vast number of players support what you think.
3. "Rewarded properly " is likewise highly subjective, and what raiders appear to be demanding as “proper” rewards for their services rendered do not seem to match up with what others feel is a “proper” reward for them.

They don’t HAVE to do it. And they also don’t NEED legendary armor. They can perfectly decide NOT to do raids and thus NOT get their legendary armor.

And once again, that is not a valid option.

Yes it is, there is no stat increase. People owning legendary armor are not more powerfull then you. There is a skin, and then there is the utility. Both wich do not affect you when playing with or against these players. If it does then the gemstore must seem like pay to win to you, and then i ask myself why you are still here.

f2p ruining dungeon selling

Dungeon path selling is something you choose to do, and while i wouldn’t mind of a party being able to flag an 80 only button, even though i think that’s utter bullkitten, that is it. If you get allot of new players who never done AC before and the LFG tool just opened up, that should be expected. You can not expect Arenanet to put limits onto this just because you are having a bit of trouble with it.

Btw this:

Speaking of. Hit me up if you sell arah, i need all paths :P(Anyone in thread)

is rediculous, just do arah.

There are allot of people just running around tagging as many events as possible. A good solution to this would be to award 3 stacks for gold, 2 for silver, 1 for bronze. That would invite people to actually finish the event instead of tagging everything. When doing events like this in the future, this is extremely important. Putting in effort to stay and finish an event should always be rewarded higher then just tagging.

Also, not rewarding players with experience is a big no, for new zones and lvl 80 zones, especially with masteries coming up.

Mate the whole reason he tought up this challenge was because he is looking for harder content. WP is also one of the biggest supporters for unique rewards. And his channel is popular because he not only discusses the news, but also isn’t scared to directly point out what GW2 is doing wrong for him. And his views are in total direct opposition to your own. His videos being super popular in terms of GW2 content does not bode well for you saying it’s a “minority” of people who want exclusive rewards.

I’m not criticizing WP, love his videos and support his Patreon, but that doesn’t mean that I agree with him on everything and some of his opinions on “elite” content I just don’t agree, but I still enjoy his work. My point was just that you don’t need to be an exceptional player to produce videos that help promote the game. Eexa barely even plays the content at all in her videos.

And yet he’s not earning above minimum wage without his Patreon, wich i support aswell btw. And he is by far the most popular GW2 focussed channel. That is a problem. He needs to make up crazy challenges to even have an interesting stream. This is not good, and should not ever be considdered as the norm. This has nothing to do with GW2 but with WP’s passion. That man could talk about anything for 3 hours and i would to listen to it. Other them him, there is litterly noone even half as popular. We are talking about an exceptional person here.

Wp’s highest viewed video containing actual GW2 footage, the one about keyfarming, has just over 1/3 of the views of a world first raid guild’s mythic archimonde kill in wow recently, and that was a video by that guild. And that game is loosing subs constantly.

GW2 at the moment has nothing going for itself in terms of making videos, and people that do make it a succes do so because they are awesome people. While in other games some random dweep can actually raid, take it, upload it, and get tons of views more then our most dedicated content creators.

Yeah, but players if any skill level can do this with any sort of content, some of GW2’s more popular videos are just Wooden Potatoes doing any silly thing he thought up that the game does not have any rules for.

And yes, any reward you get as a raider is paid for by your fellow players, because we each contribute to the success of the game, regardless of how we play. The fewer the people who actually receive the Legendary Armor, the more people paid for you to have it.

That is complete and total utter nonsense. I don’t even get how you came to this. The only one who paid for the raids is the raiders. The raiders asked for raids in HoT. Anet saw there was a demand for raids, so they included it in HoT. Now the raiders paid for HoT so they can play those raids.

You paid for HoT for different reasons, but not for the raids. You didn’t contribute to the raiding in any – single – way. You didn’t ask for it. You didn’t pay for it. You’re not playing them and you’re not helping us getting our legendary armors.

I totally agree with this. Buy HoT for what you want, challenging group content was anounced at in the first anouncement of Heart of Thornes, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxLkfXwxLTs 18:24) and you know current group content all has unique rewards locked behind it. You know the devs are devoting a piece of their budget towards this new content as i know they devote a piece of their budget to WvW while i hardly play it these days. You buying heart of thornes does not in any single way mean that you contribute to raiding or WvW for that matter. You bought it because you like certain type of content just the same as people who like raids bought it because they like raids. The entitlement going on over 50 bucks is kittening disgusting. The devs do not owe you ANYTHING but what they promised, and they made a promise to have challenging group content, now known as raids, with unique rewards. Just like they promised new WvW borderlands and leagues in pvp, elite specs, a new class, new maps, the mastery system and the fractal update. These are selling points and they won’t change them.

Quite simply people don’t like being forced onto yet another weapon that they don’t use on land, and that is what underwater does. Nobody knows the underwater skills, it’s just press all the buttons and hope something dies. There is to few content to really learn you to play underwater.

I’ve played dozens of MMOs before this one,m but found them largely unsatisfying and didn’t stick with any of them even half as long as I have GW2. I imagine the same is true for a lot of GW2 players. I believe that GW2’s success is in people who like the concept of MMOs, but who were driven away from other MMOs by features that GW2 deliberately avoided, like paid subscriptions or raiding culture. GW2 succeeded by not being a WoW clone. If people are happy with how other MMOs do things, they are too busy playing those games to be playing GW2.

I agree with you that GW2 has gotten allot of attention for not being an exact copy of wow, it also however, like you said, it also lost allot of people who did want meaningfull stuff to do at lvl 80 right at launch. To suggest that Arenanet should not try to get some of those players back, is in a buisness point of view, pretty dumb, even if you don’t like them, they would make GW2 even bigger. And it’s not like anyone is going to leave GW2 because they have one more thing to do. In addition to that, i do not know a single player, that hasn’t taken a break from GW2 since launch. Most of my guild have missed about a year in the 3 years GW2 is out. Why, because they got bored. No offense to you if you love GW2 as it is, but this expansion is coming for a reason, GW2 had trouble keeping peope interested. That is the simple truth.

Now i don’t want GW2 to become wow, i don’t want gear progression and i don’t want content to be irrelevant. That being said, other games do have their strong points, and to say GW2 can’t take anything from them, is in my opinion rediculous.
Heart of Thornes is in allot of ways reaching out to the general mmo community, as is free to play, and it’s only going to make this game more popular.

But this quote again proves you think you are the majority and i honestly cannot believe that, you must see that most people take long breaks from the game, that the game right now, isn’t all that for them. Again, i do not know a single person, in my friendlist or guild, that hasn’t at one point taken a 5 month or longer break. That isn’t good you know, because we love GW2, we have played GW1 together aswell and GW1 never had this effect on our guild. But somehow GW2 didn’t have that same depth to us. I hope HoT can fix some of those issues, because it’s clearly not just me.

Anyway, i’m done discussing this now, i can’t reason when you always counter my arguments with personal opinion and trow it around like it’s fact. I haven’t met a single person ingame that thinks like you do, not one. I have however met allot of people who look forwards to raids, who are excited about them, many of them who have been playing since launch. So your logic that GW2 players do not want this, is totally flawed according to what i’ve seen ingame. Have a good day.

And that is the entire problem, you look at this ONLY from your perspective, and i get your perspective cause i have done the same. But i’m not looking at this for me, i would play the game with your system in place, no problem, and i would have fun and do many different things, but we are the exception to the rule, and i understand this, you don’t.

I don’t see any reason to believe that we are exceptional. So long as various types of gameplay exist, and people have cause to pursue them, I don’t believe there are players who wouldn’t. Players that quit do so for one of two reasons, either A. None of the activities in the game interest them significantly anymore, or B. The activities that they do enjoy are seen as too unrewarding relative to other activities, so they stick with the “rewarding” activities until they get sick of it. Balancing rewards solves the second one, but really nothing can solve the first aside from them continuing to add fun new gameplay.

More people would be upset about not having unique rewards then there would be about having them, it’s as simple as that.

I don’t believe that for a second. For some games? Maybe, but GW2 has not fostered that sort of culture, which is part of the reason that the addition of raiding is causing such a culture clash from people who expect it to be exactly like raiding in those other games, and those hoping that it won’t break what made GW2 better than those other games. and I’m sure that the players who do want unique rewards will be very vocal in their displeasure, as they were about not being satisfied with GW2’s dungeon systems for the first three years, but that doesn’t mean that they make up a majority, or that their continuing to play the game is of any real importance. Most of the hardcore raider type players left screaming after the first few months of the game, and the game’s gotten along just fine without them. The people who have been with the game for the past three years are mostly those who have nothing in common with those players.

Mate, now you are acting ignorant, GW2 has exactly fostered that culture, since launch, the only difference with other games is that none of the unique rewards were behind challenging content and they didn’t change stats. Nothing has changed in the Arenanet policy except they are adding a gametype.

And btw, saying “other games” with such a despise for them, clearly shows why you don’t understand most of the playerbase. You seem to be of the impression that people who like GW2 and people who like Wow and Swtor and Wildstar are entirely different groups of people, while allot of players just like mmo’s in general, seeking one that fits them best. GW2 wants as big a piece of that pie as possible, they have been wanting that since launch. I can guarantee you over 50% of the playerbase will have played another mmo prior to this one. Some even multiple ones. In fact most people i know in the game have taken a break from it somewhere in the last few years, playing other stuff instead.

I’m sure that the players who do want unique rewards will be very vocal in their displeasure, as they were about not being satisfied with GW2’s dungeon systems for the first three years, but that doesn’t mean that they make up a majority, or that their continuing to play the game is of any real importance.

This needs to be singled out, because you clearly don’t realise wich minority group 1 guy in particular is really vocal about not wanting these rewards, i’ve talked about this with my guild, all players since launch, and most played the original guildwars before that. I’ve not heard anyone saying they hate that raids have exclusive rewards. In fact the only people i’ve met that think this is a problem is a vocal minority on the forums.
You are the one being vocal, almost on your own here… You are the minority.

And btw, their continuing to play is not of any real importance to you, it is of real importance to Arenanet. You don’t care for these players, so you expect everyone to agree that they aren’t relevant, and quite simply, we don’t.

I’m switched my own primary activities around numerous times, and it usually had nothing to do with any rewards specific to that activity. So long as people do not feel that their time would be wasted in doing something else, they are more likely to change roles than quit, what makes them likely to quit is if they believe that no other role would be worth doing.

And that is the entire problem, you look at this ONLY from your perspective, and i get your perspective cause i have done the same, i’ve had a period i played mainly WvW, then fractals, and so on. But i’m not looking at this for me, i would play the game with your system in place, no problem, and i would have fun and do many different things, but we are the exception to the rule, and i understand this, you don’t. They have to appeal to as many people as they can, and while i understand and respect your point, you fail to understand and respect mine, i don’t think your idea is bad for me personally, but it won’t appeal to many people, wich is entirely why it is an impossible thing to do.

More people would be upset about not having unique rewards then there would be about having them, it’s as simple as that. Mmo’s have conditioned people in this way, and sadly enough breaking from that point is something GW2 can’t do without losing allot of these people.

And no we aren’t better off without them. You can’t expect that stance of Arenanet.

You seem to be suggesting in your post that Arenanet should just make the perfect balanced system. And that is the illusion. Even if they could balance it for one player, perfect balance is different for everyone. For a hardcore raider the raids may be optimal, and for a casual the event trains may be optimal. Without unique rewards both aren’t encouraged to do the other things, wich means both are far more likely to burn out on the game without trying other things. It’s just that simple.

Arenanet wants to encourage people to try everything, and there is not a single way a token system can provide this in a decent working way. Even if you rotate rewards sizes, for the people on both edges on the scale, doing their own thing will still be optimal and GW2 will loose players for it, far more then they will because someone can’t get some skin.
You are asking a game that already is very different and takes allot of risks, to do something that has not worked yet in any other mmo, and just take the leap of faith because it’s something you would like. It won’t happen, again, because people don’t care enough about not being able to get skins to quit the game, most people even find it logical, and they are used to way way worse in other mmo’s due to gated powercreep. However not having a decent incentive to do certain content, especially the hardcore content, is something people will quit the game for. It’s the easiest choice to make for Arenanet tbh.
