BOONS and CONDITIONS!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: FrostSpectre.4198

FrostSpectre.4198

Well you didn’t really explain why you think this, so I’ll be the one: why do you think this?

PvE should mirror PvP on some extends, PvP players can use any build they desire.

Necromancers can convert Boons into conditions, Mesmers can remove boons, every class has atleast 1 boon removing skill and/or trait.

Why don’t we get more use for Boon manipulations in PvE.

Necromancers can manipulate conditions, every class has set of skills and/or traits to remove/convert/transfer conditions.

Why don’t we get more use for Condition manipulations in PvE.

Giving no use for the skills that were added in to the game, then why have them in the game and limit them to other part of the game?

Added difficulty is great IF you’re in an event, IN a group. If you’re not, by the time you “carefully” wade through the mobs that are much more difficult and have a HUGE aggro range, the event you are trying to reach will be over, which means you wasted all the time you fought your way in that direction.

Harder mobs are great when they’re tucked away in a corner or an instance, but for open world where you participation is reliant on mobility as much as firepower, not so great.

I hope Anet gets the message and makes the mobs during events harder, and open world spawns much weaker.

In my opinion they should be capable, regardess if they’re in a event or not. Aggro range can be lowered, but their capabilities should never be weakened in solo play.

We don’t need another Risen army that fought against the lion guard, but it’s revealed that the Risen are super squishy, with no abilities or combat capabilities, thus the Lion Guard are the worst possible force that can’t handle incapable walking corpses.

BOONS and CONDITIONS!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: FrostSpectre.4198

FrostSpectre.4198

Although this is about mobs, but it’s more specifically about BOONS and CONDITIONS used by mobs. Not about difficulty.

So far, I have seen no new mobs that use boons, except the old Teragriffs and Hounds (Hounds suck big time, since they don’t have Retaliation, which could have been moderated with “no effect if under effects of Retaliation”, though fighting them is not full Zhaitan atleast).
Every mob should use atleast few boons with good durations, like players can do.

This goes with Conditions, foes tend to use few of them, and they’re tied with their attacks. Mordrem Courtiers (what ever their actual name is) seem to focus mostly in just direct dmg, but atleast they’re not full Zhaitan.
There should be some mobs, that focuses on inflicting alot of conditions, than direct dmg, like players can do.

Common enemies should use more boons! So far none does so. Necromancers are one profession that suffers on the lack, since they have the power to convert them into conditions!

Also add common enemies that utilize conditions as damage source! Not enough conditions on players!

So far, my combat experience has been very mobile and rewarding when I succeed on killing foe.

Hopefully, there won’t be any foes that makes combat into “stand-spam-DPS-passive defense”

Poor GS female animations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrostSpectre.4198

FrostSpectre.4198

People have had this discussion before…

As with those old discussions, the holding stance when just standing and holding the greatsword looks and is actual way to hold it.

Female Sylvari, Human and Norn Greatsword melee Auto-attack animations are plain crap.
Norns have abit better ones, stronger moves for the 2 first AAs and overhead strike on third, while Human and Sylvari have what looks like struggling to lift swipes and lift swipe.

It looks to me like: they didn’t bother to improve their physical strength at all and just grabbed the greatsword, for sake of “being lady-like”…

Although it would be “females have less strength than males” but they could have abit better ones…
Atleast if the animations would be based on real life average weights of two handed swords, which is about 1.1-1.8 kilograms or 2.4-4.0 pounds (which ever measurement units you use), which shouldn’t be that heavy for a trained strong woman to swing it (fantasy world warriors would clearly have more strength, due to physical training obviously, even if they’re women).

Although it wouldn’t make sense for scholar professions, but then again, they could be imbuing some form of magic to strengthen them when using the Greatsword. Mesmers clearly utilize magic to help them lift it, Necromancers would propably with some necromantic strength and etc.

Can we get an option to hide...

Regarding Legendary weapon effects, some look like the characters have bowel or peeing issues.

The wings and other oversized back items look plain idiotic, as they don’t belong in the aesthetic of the GW2 lore.

Yea, Graphics option for “Character Model Quality” will hide your armor and looks, so your unique looks have been mostly hidden to those with less powerful computers, but not replace or remove the ridiculously huge back items or weapons.

Issues with character creation...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

FrostSpectre.4198

Issue is the new positioning of the character (which has been there for some time), it was changed on Character Selection screen, but the same thing persists with Character Creation.

Making Charr characters slightly tilted down, making it hard to see the face…
Making Sylvari is partly blocked by hud elements, due to odd turning axis…

What did force ANet to change the positioning anyway?

I’m also abit annoyed of these items that breaks immersion of the GW2.
Bird wings, super sized bags (2x larger than player).

I see a stranger, I don’t care if their stuff was expensive and ridiculously huge compared to their size.

Since literally, everything I see worn by NPCs, can be worn by players. But not the other way around.

GW1 held quite the normal look, with no special items.

On other hands, I wish the graphics option which control “Player Character Quality”, would rather have abit better quality stock models on basic colors (other than just black character and grey armor), with atleast more basic animations than just “run” for movement and “overhead smash” for attacks and interactions.
Also it should hide backitems, and not reduce quality party member models.

Horde arena. I recall there was one of those in GW1, but don’t remember it specifically.

In GW2, like the one in Plains of Ashford, held by the Charr (Odd, now noticed it’s not drawn into the map, map only displays the rockformation near the Ashford Forum where it’s located), but that is a Renown Heart, which doesn’t allow you to participate anymore once the heart is done. Another one in Gendarran Fields, held by Norn.

Healer + Tank, ever a possibility?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrostSpectre.4198

FrostSpectre.4198

Well, you can play tank, but only with combination with DPS, Support or Control
Utilize defensive skills to mitigate damage and either DPS, Support or Control to fill in the hits that will hit through your defense. Although Support will benefit more from allies that assist you in DPS, and extra Support and Control.

And yes, PvE at this moment, is quite underwhelming, all vanilla maps, have foes that cannot exactly kill you in 1vs1 combat (I’m talking about dealing damage and not allowing you to stand and spam your skill set, which would be full berserker DPS with passive DPS boosts and not a single defense).
Support and Control have more uses in SsCove, Dry Top and Silverwastes, where foes are more capable and full DPS cannot keep themselves up indefinetely (meaning they’re more prone to getting downed and defeated)

ColinJ did post that they will be updating maps to contain properly designed mobs that offer proper combat scenarios, player base is assuming that it means vanilla maps and dungeons, except not the Starter maps.
Question is when are they doing it…

Hopefully when HoT is released, or later, but I dunno.

Now that everyone has settled

FrostSpectre.4198

Well, I also got the feeling that there’s personal bias in your suggestions…

Redundant traits like the warrior “Merciless Hammer” (25% vs stunned foes, -20% cooldowns) and “Unsuscepting Foe” (50% crit chance vs stunned foes):
Merciless hammer is on Discipline (Mandatory traitline for warriors), so I see no problems for warriors to go Berserker Hammer with combining Discipline with Arms trait lines. (before the “Merciless Hammer” was Defense trait line, which pretty much limited it’s use with any other than Defensive builds)

Arms line offers nice Adrenaline gain traits (Berserker’s Fury and Furious), which can be used to fuel the Earthshaker (since Discipline also reduces adrenal skill recharge).
Or you can go full defense with Defense trait line instead of Arms (or both depending on your build).

But then again, all these traits are still subject to changes (that ANet sees fit), since they’re still quite new and have unforeseen effects…

Broken effects and graphics...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrostSpectre.4198

FrostSpectre.4198

I hope these are fixed, since it’d be bad if they did the same as with GW1 (some skill effects got their graphical effects broken, like Empathy and Blood Renewal).

For GW2, things that had their axis’ broken:

  • Aegis boon’s “magic off-hand shield” effect (Locks up most of the times to follow the compass, rather than the position of the arm it’s attached to)
  • Claw of Jormag’s “Mist Wave”, the icicle effects point in another way, than the intended direction

Well, there might be more graphical effects that had their axises broken or their animated texture is reversed (Well, the Jeweler crafting corner in Rata Sum, the “molten metal” defys laws of physics and goes back into the melting pot above it. Not sure if this is intended).

There also seems to be problem with light source on the character selection screen, it seems to move around and perhaps follow last character faced direction, sometimes light source will shine off directly from front of the characters, making human and norn characters look unusually white, even if their skin color is set to darker tones.

And there are the model flaws on Charr, like bright spot on Legion helm while the same helm has distorted proportions when worn by female charr, Heavy Plate has small bit of the chain mail stuck on the biceps and left pauldron is slightly tilted to follow the left bicep, clipping into it most of the times.

Perhaps also similar to the Guardian “Force of Will” trait, which increases outgoing healing by 1% for every 100 vitality stat points.

I spared Scarlet's life.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FrostSpectre.4198

But GW2 is set in a medieval style fantasy, where punishments are more serious like in medieval times, than compared to our real life modern world, where you’re given more choices in life that can lead into completely different outcomes.

Heroes of medival times had to make the choice, either kill the advesary who keeps on killing anyone around them, or spare the advesary and fail the trust of their people who expected you to stop the enemy for good…

I’d argue against the notion that GW2’s universe is a medieval style fantasy. For every castle and traditional sword, there are magic-infused golems and steam-powered monsters.

And the GW2 universe has villains who were captured rather than killed: Mai Trin was held in captivity until she escaped, and Canach was held until he was given a chance to “work off” his debt to society. I’m not saying Scarlet’s story could have ended without her death; I’m just saying that this isn’t the kind of world where killing an enemy is the only option.

But what were the benefits of capturing them, compared to Scarlet?

Mai Trin was potential source of information, what information can you get out of ambitious pirate who might work for anyone who pays more. On other hand Mai Trin was not unstable like Scarlet was.

Although he had no connection with Scarlet, Canach was imprisoned, since his intentions were good, but his methods were abit extreme.

As for killing Scarlet, there were no positive reasons given to us to spare her life. She was completely insane from Mordremoths influence (just like Aerin was), who would continue killing people around her with every chance they’d get, to drive forward Mordremoth’s demand for magical energy…

We are not caped crusaders or superheroes, we’re more under pressure of the society’s demands in GW2.

At the end of last episode of Season one, upon seeing her in down state, I felt pity for her and walked away without killing her. Yes, I chose to spare Scarlet’s life. Everyone deserves a second chance. But that’s not the reason why I spared her life. I actually enjoy her as an adversary. I was hoping one day she will seduce Trahearne into the dark side and turn a comrade into a foe. With his knowledge of the Pact and intelligence, Trahearne would have been a great adversary as well. Now my dreams has been crushed upon seeing the cut scene of Season 1. My crew disobey my orders and stood there as they watch this Norn woman killed off Scarlet Briar. I don’t know who this mysterious Norn woman is, but if I ever run into her she’s gonna taste the wrath of my 100 blade.

Anyways, I felt betrayed. This is not what heroes do. Heroes do not kill off villains so fast. My crew calls me Boss. Now I just want to go Donald-Trump on them: “You’re fired!” (except Taimi).

Condition damage in PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrostSpectre.4198

FrostSpectre.4198

Didn’t they update all significant boss mobs to have double HP? World bosses most certainly did receive it, dunno if they changed bounty bosses though.

But in general, any mob, that is not in Southsun Cove, Dry Top or Silverwastes, have pitiful stats (mostly just Vitality and Power, every other stats are extremely low, especially armor) and extremely poor attacks (long windup times, so slow that dodging or blocking isn’t exactly needed to avoid them)…

Example Risen Putrifiers in Cursed Shore, it’s deep in enemy territory, but the putrifiers don’t put up much of a fight, since they have no way of dealing damage properly and simple berserker DPS will cut them quickly into assorted shaped objects within few seconds, due to complete lack of defensive abilities.
Condition builds will suffer with these foes, since any berserker will kill it within few seconds, while conditions need time, especially seconds, to deal damage…

Well, ANet has promised to update mobs (vanilla maps and dungeons, except starter maps) to offer proper combat, which is more than just full berserker DPS “spam skill 1111”. I hope it happens soon, or when HoT is officially released

If this topic were about updating mobs, I would agree, but it’s not.

Problem is with story as already stated. You cannot change the area, since it’s part of the story to be under Zhaitans influence. Although there’s another chance that Zhaitan just went into hibernation to recover from the damage.

Another thing about Zhaitan, when he was defeated, he might have bled out alot of it’s magical energy, which is necromantic in nature, thus causing “magical miasma” contamination, that will persist for some time.

Another way to look at it, the cleansing process might take over hundreds of years, until Orr begins to look living and green, so literally: “Don’t expect it to change in your life time” :P

Perhaps we get the cut fight with Zhaitan (Yes Zhaitan fight was supposed to move from skies to the ground level, after Zhaitan was shot down, there were even arena ready for it and “Zhaitan’s Rest” or what it was called where the dragon corpse would have remained), changed and implemented in Mordremoth fight.

But dunno about if we really can kill them, they could fall into hibernation after defeat to regenerate even the grievous wounds or something, but it’s not clarified as far as I know.

Well, I dunno about fight in the air, since Pact Fleet was torn down by burst of tendrils and corrupt sylvari.
And this could be intepreted as “It’s somewhere, connected to the jungle, since it reacted that aggressively on blind barrage of cannont fire”, giving more to the “Heart of Thorns” idea by skowcia.8257 (although it’s possible that wounding it’s heart might force it out of hiding, creating possibility for air battle)

Since we all know what kind of foes are in Cursed Shore and everywhere else. None have attacks that can kill the player, force player to dodge or use other builds, than just Berserker DPS builds.

Of course, Southsun Cove, Dry Top and Silverwastes are exceptions (Fractals are not, the foes there are the same old, higher difficulty lvls just adds enviromental effects to make it harder, than provide more capable foes), with foes that don’t let you just DPS them to death, instead force you to use other abilities, while in 1vs1.

Ele and Engi weapon swap OOC

Also keep in mind that the OP is referring to weapon swaps outside of combat.

…but that already exists, and every class has it. It’s called the Hero Panel. There is literally nothing stopping Elementalists or Engineers from switching weapons out of combat.

The OP’s request is redundant bordering on nonsensical.

Well, this is what pretty much would prevent ANet from adding new feature of “Outside combat weapon swap”. You can do it with Hero panel, why add mechanism that is a copy of weapon swap, but limited to outside combat.

"No Subscription" is not a FAVOR

And if GW2 had subscription fees, one day it’d have free to play on it, but wouldn’t have the number of players it does now.

If GW2 suddenly changed to subscription fees, they’d loose all those who play it because of “no subs fees”, being left only with those who want to play it regardless of it.
Since GW2 is advertised as “No Subscription fees” game…

Legendary Demon Stance, another idea

in Revenant

I did post on other topic this idea before…

What if Legendary Demon Stance renders the Revenant immune to condi-removals (“Cannot loose conditions, except through expiration”), as long as Revenant stays on Legendary Demon Stance?

This would fix the issue of allies removing the stacks when they are not supposed to do so.

In some sense, same effect could be applied to Necromancer Plague Signet passive, as long as the passive effect is on, Necromancer cannot loose conditions by removal from other players or world effect.

Why you play PVE?

I play PvE, since it’s also a Co-op mode, where I can fight against capable foes (Although we have no capable foes, outside Southsun Cove, Dry Top and Silverwastes) without the constant dying that takes place in PvP.

Yea, the minions look very weak and crap, wish they’d look like the old ones in GW1.

Careful, ANet might nerf it with cap.

But still, sounds very entertaining, well unless they’re packed with a second condi-removal.

Or provide immunity to allied condition removal, “Allies cannot remove conditions on you”, while under effects of the “Legendary Demon Stance”?

While at it, do same for Necromancer Plague Signet, extra passive effect: “Allies cannot remove conditions on you”.

Necro PvE utility - where you went wrong.

Pretty much what Silver Key already pointed out, PvE is too easy and foes don’t use enough conditions and boons, tho it’s more with conditions that Necromancer can shine, by inflicting and sending them back, while turning boons on foes into conditions instead of removing them.

And some foes have ridiculously low cooldowns, like what Mordrem Hounds did, but ANet chose to remove Retaliation from them, a bad idea, instead of adding longer cooldowns or “No effect if ally is under effect of Retaliation” limiters. The duration of Retaliation could have been something of 5-8 seconds.

Suggestion for Axe The hard way

in Necromancer

Posted by: FrostSpectre.4198

FrostSpectre.4198

Perhaps. Although Axe as it is, makes a nice synergy with Life Siphon traits which use Power and Healing stats, since it provides fast attacks with multiple hits and Retaliation scales on Power by default.

So leaving Unholy Feast as it is, is useless, since it’s designed to destroy boons and provide Retaliation, to punish attackers.

And well, Feast of Corruption, name sake pretty much goes with conditions, since GW2 doesn’t have hex spells, just conditions mostly and few negative skill effects.
