The current state of the game is a joke and every living story update just compounds on that joke. They need to start addressing the flawed core mechanics before pumping out more new content. Condition damage for example still doesn’t function in large battles like Tequatl due to the cap. One year from launch and they still haven’t figured out a way to deal with condition damage.

Being permanently locked out of my main instance by guests I too have stopped trying. I guess I’ll give it another go once the hype has died down and the guest swarm has moved on. Hopefully they will consider overflows in the future when designing this type of content.

Overflow - ANY chance of being successful?

Fungalfoot.7213

Unfortunately it’s the case of picking from the worst, and we are better off with overflows than without.

You know, having waited for almost eight hours I’m going to have to disagree with that.

As bad as those old queues were they worked. Players couldn’t just skip the queue by spamming join and everybody was forced to wait their turn to participate. It was a fair system. A better system than the joke currently going on.

I’m sorry that happened to you.

But now what do you want? You want the overflow to be able to kill Teq with no coordination?

I want to be able to get into my main instance obviously. I want to be able to actually enjoy this content on some level. And that just isn’t possible right now. So yeah, I’m going to go ahead and call that bad game design. They did not consider the issues overflows would cause and now they have a kitten ed off playerbase.

I’m glad overflows can’t do it. It punishes those that refuse to work together. If you want faceroll meta content, do kitten or Jorlag.

Teq is for the hardcore, dedicated and competent. If you don’t want to dedicate any type of effort to it, you will lose, and justly so.

Uh, what? I was there when Teq was first downed on TC and got booted right before the kill. I have since been unable to return to my own home instance due to the ensuing mass guesting.

“Eh. It was barely considered an overflow. We had someone scout for an empty overflow, found one with 2 people in it, and migrated all of the organized people off the main SoR server and into that overflow. Had a total of about 120 people on Raidcall. It wasn’t a bunch of people that got thrown into an overflow, got organized, and killed it; we basically just took our own instance.”

Just a few comments in.

Should join allow you to skip the queue?

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

Absolutely, yes at all times. Stop being selfish everyone. Every single player in this game should have the same chance at getting in on this fight. We have so many low pop servers, that wouldn’t ever be able to do this without guesting.

Isn’t it selfish to skip ahead of the queue with join and deprive another player of his slot?

Right now the only ones who do have a chance at beating this are the people spamming join. I can’t help but see this is an issue.

I can’t help but miss the server queues of old. Sure, you had to wait your turn but once that join button came up your spot was guaranteed. Here you can queue all day long and still not get a spot due to people joining and skipping the line. Something needs to be done about overflows.

The bottom line here is that a lot of people are currently stuck on overflows with no way out and that this does not make for an enjoyable gameplay experience. He needs to be tuned so that he is completable by your average overflow group assuming they put in some effort. But no, you should not need VoIP or any other third party tools to beat him. That is a blatant design error.

Infinite overflows

The issue is people joining other people in main instances which effectively steals your spot and boots you right back in the queue. You will never see the other end of an overflow unless you find somebody to join in main instance.

Should join allow you to skip the queue?

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

Honest question. Is it really fair to allow for somebody to completely skip the queue just because they have a friend in the instance? I’m sure a lot of you have noticed that it’s now completely impossible to get on your home instance and this is largely because of people rotating with join. No matter how long you wait you will simply not get a slot unless you know somebody on the other side.

Any content which necessitates the use of third software should be filed under broken. Unless ArenaNet intends to implement a voice chat system voice chat should not be necessary to succeed. As this is open world content you should be able to do with a bunch of strangers and still have a shot at succeeding. You currently do not. Ergo the content is broken and needs to be revised.

Clear enough for you?

It’s pretty much impossible with randoms. You need an organized guild to all join the same overflow in order to get it done. So unless you see a lot of guild presence I suggest just logging out and doing something more productive with your day.

The tools to command? A hundred gold.

The ability to command? Now that’s priceless.

A lot of commanders simply aren’t fit for the job. As a commander it’s your responsibility to not only lead but also to keep the morale up. You’re dealing with actual human beings here and they aren’t going to listen to you if you keep dishing out abuse. I’ve noticed that the successful commanders are the ones willing to go that extra mile and not only be knowledgeable but also capable of sharing that knowledge in a constructive way.

I wish some devs would hop into some of the overflows I’ve been in. To see how this is bringing the gw community together. Not even Dhuum and his mighty scythe would have been able to keep up with the needed bans.

I saw a developer in one of the overflows I was in. Said developer died instantly to one of the waves and proceeded to lie on the ground for a good while before disappearing into thin air.

I hope they’re observing all of this and realizing that there is a problem.

Yes!
If you arrive late to something, it’s obvious you won’t enjoy the same benefits that those who came early. And blaming it on the guesting feature won’t solve anything. You would be in the same position either way.
This feature is also permanent, so you have all the time in the world to do it.

I was on all day with my guild struggling to take down Teq. When it finally looked like we were about to manage to down him I got booted along with a bunch of other server natives. We got deprived of the kill and a lot of us still haven’t been able to gain access to our server since everybody is now swarming to it.

And you seriously mean to tell me that this is how things should be? That this makes for an enjoyable gameplay experience?

Man, let’s be sincere here. You’re just mad because you haven’t been able to beat Tequatl.

Asking ANET to remove or limit a feature that has been there for so long would hit their reputation pretty hard. Now, it’s not only the guests on your server, even if there were no guests, you’d probably end in an overflow as well.

Deal with it. Patience is key.

Yeah, no kitten people are mad that they’re being deprived access from their own servers because of the guest swarm. Are you saying they shouldn’t be?

Thing is you can’t crit teq, so having precision and crit damage don’t actually count for anything. Going full Pvt is the way to go.

It counts for a lot if you’re defending turrets which is what you should be doing as a zerker. Trying to do that in PVT gear is a quick way to fail the event.

But yeah, you want PVT on Teq himself. Problem is that most people aren’t willing to grind out another set just for one event.

This needs to change, and I'll tell you why.

Fungalfoot.7213

1. Home server players get priority to non-overflow above guest players.

Going to have to second and third this one. If somebody from the home instance attempts to join guests should be booted if they exceed the cap. Guesting is getting way out of hand.

The problem is of course that the encounter just isn’t doable on smaller servers which is why people are resorting to guesting on popular ones. You need a strong guild to lead and without that you’re SOL.

...where is my reward?

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

That’s not Tequatl’s fault or this update’s fault.

It kind of is since it has forced people to guest on popular servers which has in turn made those servers not quite as stable as they should be. It’s not even possible to get into your main instance anymore due to the encounter being camped out 24/7.

ANet needs to get back to the drawing board on this one.

It’s about your entire server. It’s about building up the community by teaching each other and planning out a strategy.

Is that how it works when people from TC and BG can’t actually get in because of guests?
Because that’s the situation now.

Yeah, I get the feeling that the people who are praising this are clueless in regards to the technical issues it brings. Sure, it would be cool in an ideal world but this isn’t an ideal world. When designing content you have to design it around the limitations of the game.

This needs to change, and I'll tell you why.

TC, an Roleplay server, has finished the boss. So your argument already are failed.

Just the players need how to do. There is no need of VOIP or something else.

TC has one of the highest active PvE populations of all the servers. We also used mumble.

And now we’re flooded with guests so we can’t even do it anymore. Yeah, great design.

Tequatl nerf is inevitable

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

Honestly, it’s inevitable for longevity and to ensure the event is even attempted weeks after this event, but the worst part about all of this is the elitism it will bring. The few servers who did down it before it eventually gets nerfed are going to just gloat and talk so much crap to everyone else it’s not even gonna be funny.

I’m from TC and while we did down it it was a Pyrrhic victory at best. A large portion of the participating players, including myself, ended up crashing just seconds before the kill due to server issues no doubt caused by players from other servers attempting to mass join

So yeah, I’m all for changes. The few servers who can do this now are pretty much all being swarmed and it’s causing huge issues for the native population. I talked to somebody earlier who had been waiting five hours just to get into his own server instance. This is not enjoyable gameplay.

And how is that any different than being in an instance?

Because instances aren’t as prone to crashing as a zone which is being bombarded by people trying to mass join and guest? Plus, you can always just rejoin your party if you do happen to crash.

Open World =/= Challenging/Elite

Fungalfoot.7213

Lets get back on topic a little more. Making the challenging content instanced, not open world.

(gear treadmill, which ascended really isnt, is a whole different topic)

But the topics are connected. In order to do this challenging content you need good gear. Ergo it reinforces the treadmill and forces players to grind it out in order to participate in open world content or effectively prevent their fellow players from finishing it by consuming a slot which could have been used by a better geared player.

And this is exactly why this content needs to be instanced.

Open World =/= Challenging/Elite

Fungalfoot.7213

The randoms in blues must have something as objective in the game, how you can be motivated to grow up your gear, if your gear are able to do anything in the open world game. The game already have a system to penalty the blues in the battlefront, the repair system.

And this is where I’ll have to remind you that a lot of folks bought this game because it was supposed to free of the cancerous gear treadmill, a treadmill which is now sadly being reinforced by fights like Tequatl. The underlying issue here is that ArenaNet has turned their back on their original vision in favor of something more traditional and I’m not convinced that’s a good thing.

Fungalfoot.7213

I don’t think open world content should be easy. That said, I don’t think open world content should require team speak or a ridiculous amounts of coordination either because it’s just not designed in a way which naturally promotes that.

While designing this content you have to keep in mind that randoms in blues will join in and you have to make it fun and rewarding for those folks to do just that. Tequatl in his current state violates that. The encounter makes these players into the bad guys.

You’re right. Ascended weapons are garbage. I mean..why waste a whole 15 minutes on this boss fight for a chance at a drop that could be one of the best weapons in the game.

Because RNG. Correct me if I’m wrong but even if you do get astronomically lucky and get an ascended drop it will be random and most likely worthless.

As I said in my post, “keep kittening in the forums because this does need addressed”. I’m not blaming the players, I blame Anet. I’m saying the players may as well make themselves useful until this is resolved. Why choose to be useless when you don’t have to be? Actively try to improve the situation by keeping on Anet’s kitten , but at least make the best of a bad situation while you’re in it.

Because it means them sacrificing their time to grind new gear. I think people are sick of having to go out of their way to combat ANet’s bad design choices and I don’t blame them. I’m on the verge of quitting myself due to every update making the game worse and I’m full power.

They already address that they can’t increase the condition cap because of the limitation of their servers.

Dpsing teq is purely power builds at the moment.

Then they should just take condition damage out of the game entirely.

They need to stop beating around the bush and start dealing with the real issues. This content should have never made it into the game when the damage system doesn’t even function properly.

Why is anyone still even running condition builds in PvE? Direct damage is superior in virtually every way.

I’m not saying “Stop whining!”. I’m saying keep kittening in the forums because this does need addressed. But for god’s sake, change to direct damage so you aren’t so useless until Anet does finally fix this.

Because the option is given by ArenaNet. As infuriating as it is you really can’t blame the players for this. We need to hold them accountable for their bad design instead of bickering with one another.

Nerfing him at this point is necessary and I think ArenaNet realizes that. He was obviously tuned around the entire zerg rocking ascended or bypassing instance restrictions like Blackgate did and that just isn’t a realistic for most servers. It is also unreasonable to design a fight around voice chat when voice chat isn’t supported by the game. You should not need third party software in order to succeed.
