Im 10 pips from legend and have the same issue. Legends q ing with ambers since they reached legend allready and they cant lose divs anyway. Ppl in legend / diamond range NOt dodging and standing still untill they die. Great f ing matchmaking.

If i was a Blizzard lead i wouldnt even hire anets system devs as interns. They are so sub par compared to the industry standards its unbelievable. The hilarious thing is that they actually think they are smart and the created a well thought out system.

Coming a from a guy that played online ladder games since 2003; this is literally rockbottom.

In PvE with Impact Strike + Uppercut + Palm Strike we can pretty much deplete almost all break bars in solo.

If you need more hard CC, just bring pistol off hand in the 2nd set and bound/HS on BP, switch to staff and use Hook Strike too.

It’s not really an issue.

And then there’s the mindset “I’m too good for playing with others, you’re all scrubs, but nonetheless I’ll ruin your games the same cause I’m so selfcentered” – losers’ mindset in a team game.

I’m sorry, I don’t want to sound harsh, but you must have met very bad DHs, Scrappers and Eles.

When I’m playing especially on scrapper, I just melt down ANY thief, the class can’t really face it.

I can’t not imagine a thief running paladin unless he wants to try and be some kind of bunker.

Could you imagine chronomancer running Sentinal until the last patch??

As far as we know AT THE MOMENT, a Paladin thief makes no sense at all.

If there’ll be more changes to skills/traits (notably Acro), then, maybe, but just maybe, the viability of Paladin amulet can be assessed.

But so far, there’s not a single reason for a thief to go Paladin.

I guess it depends on when BV will proc. If it will proc before Mug, then it’ll disrupt Aegis/CH/etc. stunning the target, thus allowing the damage from Mug.

And I think it’ll work this way (BV procs before Mug), if not it wouldn’t make much sense.

Its in the mechanic. The more high skill is rewarded, the larger the gap, and the more frustaration comes up. This leads to lower skilled players to leave. Generally players without enough wining experiences that can´t see they can catch up (casuals?) will leave. This will crawl botom up and reduce a game into a small elitists group.
So annyone asking for high skill caps (also good technical equipement and fast internet) should think of what this will cause. This is why passives are good and the UI must not be overloaded an kept well learnable for casual gamers.

Then why this (plausible) scenario didn’t happen with GW1 GvG?

The top guilds (War Machine, Last Pride, Idiot Savants, etc.) were really top, top skilled players. And yet, even if the GvG requested a team of 8 players to just start a match, the queue times were very short and you usually would get nice matches, regardless of your team skill level.

I remember a PvP developer panel discussion a couple of years ago where the lead designer at the time pointed out why it is so hard to balance GW2 PvP.

He said if they make a class and build that is powerful and easy enough for low-skill players to use successfully, then the very high skill players will take the build and just wreck everyone with it.

Made sense to me.

Ok, I play thief regularly yet (it’s still my main since day one), but I played a good bunch of matches with the hammer marauder scrapper, so I’m not biased towards one or the other.

And the scrapper is just mindblowingly powerful, anyone denying that is a hypocrit.

When I read the patch preview, I asked myself “WTF?” – Rocket charge going from 10 to 12 secs CD (lol, such a huge nerf, NOT) and a well deserved increase from 20 to 40 secs CD on Stealth Gyro (but the main issue is, imo, the instacast of the Gyro, even though now with that doubling on the CD it’ll need to be used more sparingly and at the right moments).

Anyway, this won’t nerf much the survivability of the scrapper as it is now. Not by a long shot. The quantity of self-combos that he can do is amazing (area healing, light aura, swiftness, etc.), the damage is still pretty high and even the quantity of CCs and stunbreaks/stability is really over the top. When a build can resist for quite some time a 1v2 while using an OFFENSIVE amulet, something’s wrong with it.

The real problem with the DH’s traps is the continuos daze when they’re triggered, meaning that if you get caught you can’t even shadowstep outside with infiltrator’s return of IS.

You need to:

- Dodge the traps (starting and ending point of the dodge should be BOTH outside the traps area);
- Avoid the pull of Hunter’s Verdict (0.5 casting time)
- Stay at range until traps (especially Maw) are off and avoid DH’s huge longbow damage
- Look if he just lays a new set of traps (especially Maw, again) and in case if you’re caught inside you need to use Shadowstep to break stun outside, and remember to dodge again in order to get out of the 1200 range of Hunter’s Verdict if he didn’t use it before.

However, as you can see, for us thieves atm the DH is pretty much a hard counter, any half-decent DH will just wreck a thief sadly in 1v1, so in the end it’s best, especially if the DH is just camping a point, to go help your team with a +1 elsewhere.

You’re outright wrong. The match prediction worked perfectly. The ambers were treated like a diamond so they played a diamond team. The Ruby player probably had a very high MMR and it showed with the win and everyone who won got 1 pip, cause it was judged to be a even match due to treating the ambers like a diamond which is how it’s intended to be.

This system is NOT yet active.

Today I had two matches which made me lift an eyebrow at the outcome.

My team won both of them, but the pips gain felt really out of place.

The first one (of which I don’t have a screenshot) was vs a full premade, with 3 rubies and 2 sapphire players, while our team had 4 duoqueuers and 1 pug, same distribution of divisions. We won 501-400something, and we gained 3 pips.

The second one is the one in the screenshot, and we gained just 1 pip from it.

Now these outcomes, especially the second one, seem weird. I know perfectly that divisions are not a measure of personal skill almost at all, but still, if a team gets stomped that way, apart from the important fact that no one has fun (and the losing players ofc feels frustrated by such pairing and result), the pips gain and/or loss should be higher, at least 2 pips.

This should happen in order to distribute players better on similar skill level and give a more fair matchmaking in the future for all players involved.

But this can’t happen until the prediction algorithm avoids these kind of situations (3 pips in a game with less than 100 points difference and +1 in a game which could have ended the same way if 3 players went afk at the start of the match).

And I think we should have more divisions (probably with less tiers in each one) starting from Ruby: having only Ruby, Diamond and Legendary xN doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially considering that Diamond has 7 tiers, whereas Ruby has 6 and Legendary 5.

It’d be a lot better if we had at least 4 divisions (last one Legendary, after that we can start with the 2x, 3x, etc.), starting from Ruby, with 5 tiers each, so in order to reach Legendary one player has to cross 15 tiers instead of 13, but with a much fairer distribution of relative players’ skill.

We could even put a division loss rule, for example if a player loses 5 pips when he’s at 0 in a specific division, he goes back to the previous division with the last tier empty. Ofc if he gets back 1 pip when he’s at 0, the -5 pips are reset.

However, my point is: pls Anet rework somewhat your prediction algorithm, cause at the moment it feels very weird.

OP could not be more wrong. The 4x Amber + 1 Legendary team is treated kitten legendaries. For matchmaking, for match prediction, for everything. They have an increased chance of LOSING multiple pips, not gaining them. Its a 5 legendary team and will be favored against almost everybody. You want to party with Ambers, you assume the risk. 100% intended and 100% needed.

If you don’t know what the kitten you’re talking about you probably shouldn’t post.

This, confirmed by Anet.

I asked specifically about this thing to Evan in the new Matchmaking thread, and he answered personally that it’ll work this way.

The 2 only possible explanations are:

1) Very huge and actually hilarious bug in the matchmaking.
2) You waited SO much in queue that in the end the system, instead of leaving you without playing, put you and all the players in the game. As to why it didn’t put the amber and emerald player with the trioq, I have no idea (except: another great bug) and ofc it doesn’t make any sense.

Basically the raids are a DPS check, but nothing that can’t be done with a thief in party.

Honestly, I’m not at all impressed even by this tiny preview.

It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

AA buff? It’s not what we really need.
Acro rework? It could be interesting, but not really what we need, again.

Unless the new Acro will permit us to actually STAY in all them kittening aoes spammed by anyone and their mother-in-law, the AA buff will be utterly useless.

We don’t have survivability, no useful utility skills except the usual 4-5, traitlines are full of obvious choices. This is what should be improved, not AA.

It doesn’t matter if they belong to an OP (or not) build (though one can argue that they help a build becoming OP), it’s just the fact that they counter so hard Stun breaks (except the few ones which ports you away like Shadowstep/Blink) and Stability in its current form.

They’re so bad design-wise, they promote exactly the opposite of skillful play.

Where are the times when a hard-cc required the right moment to be used in order to be effective?

You have to cross 4 divisions four times. The first season the achievement is locked. So you have to cross 4 division four times in 2 or 3 seasons. Impossible to do without getting to diamond.

Anet you should learn to communicate this stuff so people can understand it.

And you should learn to just look at stuff in-game instead of writing random things on the forum.

You just have to cross a grand total of 10 divisions to complete all the thresholds part of the Ascension achievements.

As soon as the first one is done (i.e.: cross 1 division from amber to emerald), you complete the Part I achie and the Part II achie is available for completion, even if you didn’t finish the rest of Part I.

Same goes for Part II and Part III.

It wasn’t that hard, really.
