Then the roster size (if this is the part regarding how many players entered the match as a party) should have a way bigger weight than it has now.
Yes, and that is true for every MMO I have ever experienced. There is a population in the world that will spend 50 times the 2000 hours you would spend, to “WIN”. They will do nothing but play the game and sleep a few hours, for weeks.
It’s unusual, and you’d think it would be rare. But it is fairly common. They call themselves “hardcore”, rather than obsessed and unbalanced.
They skew the game for the other 99.9% of players who have better things to do with their time, or who have to hold a job.
I agree with you completely about this (and there’re serious studies about this, and quite preoccuping I have to add).
However, the point I was trying to make is that, in a PvP environment, the “prize” should go to the best players, measured by personal and team-wise skill, not to average/bad skilled farmers.
Back in the day, when I played Q3 before the millennium started, it was a really skilled player who was called “hardcore”, while the casual was the average joe, it had nothing to do (as a causation, not correlation of course) with the time spent on the game. I wonder when this shift of meaning happened.
Try to friggn tempt me with micro transactions, sold.
As soon as I read this, I envisioned the PvP lobby full of slot machines and blackjack tables run by quaggan dealers.
Did you expect that the highest pvp achievement currently in the game would be attainable by casuals?
One would expect that PvP rewards should go to skilled players, not farmers.
Wanna bet on how many PvE heroes with enough patience and time will get the backpack, even if they’re utterly bad at PvP?
It happened twice this evening. I was duoqueuing with a friend, and we got matched vs such full premade teams.
First one hade one ruby, 3 emeralds and 1 amber. We were both sapphire and had 3 emerald with us. We won something like 5xx-19×. Just 1 pip.
Second one, we were 3 sapphires and 2 emerald, while opposing team was ruby, 3 sapphires and 1 amber. Won 53x-298. Again, only 1 pip.
Ofc our teammates were all soloqueuing.
This doesn’t make any sense. Any full premade team should be at a huge loss of pips vs duo/soloq players, at least +2.
I want back the ELO (simple) system of GW1, not this utter crap. Plz.
That the emerald thief should have been in the red team to average out.
Well my 2 main professions are Guard/DH and Warrior/Berserker
I guess I’m kitten!I guess I’ll make a Rev
Nah, just roll a Teef.
…and it’s actually NOT Anet fault: complete lack of communication among your team.
To me, it’s the number one reason of why people just lose or perform badly, apart from known huge imbalances in classes/builds.
I honestly wonder why players come and play a team game, and then refuse to even exchange 3-4 words at start, if only to work out a starting strategy against opposing team (this is true for conquest as much as for stronghold, ofc).
And the worst ones are those that don’t say a word for almost all the match, and then wake up and remember that there’s a chat when the game is clearly lost just to spout the usual things like “bad team, my teammates suck, scrubs” etc.
It’s appalling, really. It makes solo/duoqueing a lot more miserable than it already is. And it makes me want to meet irl these kind of players and shout in their ears until they bleed – maybe they’ll say something.
and its a little hard to aim
There’s a thing called practice, you know.
Everybody with druid is ok?! You lost your minds? Or you didn’t played against ruby or diamond druids?! They are so over powered with healing that u want to cry, they even kill a full health Reaper with full life force… not to mention they easily kill DH. You lost your minds, talking kitten?!
Or you are druids and don’t want nerf?
Bristleback OP confirmed.
PvP focused player finds the fun in playing and winning on a balanced playing field
AHAHAHAHAHHA.
Sorry, it genuinely made me lauAAHAHAHHAHAHAHHHAHA.
Here are some things affected by fear being a condition:
- Ranger Wolf (F2)
- Necro (Staff 5, Shroud 3, downed 2, Reapers Protection and converting stability)
- Warrior (“Fear me”)Nothing that would be overbuffed or anything.
Thief bundle stolen from Necro. x2 with Improvisation. Fear not a condition. It’d be a good laugh then.
Instagibbing the squishiest squishy.
So, basically, only other thieves.
This part:
It was a huge grind though
clashes with this:
cuz even though I mostly stay above 80% wins
I wonder what you consider “a grind”: 100 games? 200? Do you really have an 80%+ w/l ratio?
I just lost my last 2 games, with a score of 480+ in both, and got 2 pips each game. Once in a while it feels good even to lose.
There’s a bug going on last I knew where the game was randomly changing peoples’ settings. Not sure if it got fixed yet, so it could have been that.
Yup, for 3-4 days we had an annoying bug which would reset the general options on every logout→login (that meant targeting, camera, looting, etc., all options in that tab).
It has been fixed in the last patch though.
The community can’t even agree on what should change overall let alone specific classes, it’s a dev job trying to figure it out IMO.
There, fixed it for you.
It’s a bug guys, heck, there are times when my character was completely unaffected by quickness and slow and still was denied the finish.
Lucky you, today I couldn’t even START the stomp on 7 different times (yes, I counted them), I spammed F like crazy but the animation didn’t even start, my toon just stood there clueless. With or without quickness.
Probably you need to reset the targeting system on “Fast targeting with indicator”.
The answer ofc is yes BUT there shouldn’t be a “no possible pips loss” in any tier/division, I.E.: everything should work like it works from ruby div on.
And considering how Anet clearly caters to carebears, it will never be implemented. Sadly.
And for once I’d like to congratulate both teams for queuing without a low division/MMR guy.
So many people thinking that they are entitled to progress through divisions with the introduction of leagues if they play enough games. No, you are not. Having a losing streak? Can’t progress to the next division? That’s just your skill cap and where you belong then. Deal with it.
This would be true in a 5-players premade vs premade scenario only. GW1 GvG style.
Bringing back SoloQ will help a lot…No kittening idea why they removed it
Cause of really, really low pvp population.
:))
okay, have fun
Already did, ty. VG beaten with around 2:40 remaining on timer. :P
It’s so good no one wants one for raids.
That’s because of
1) Ignorance by copypasta meta scrubs who usually aren’t able to kill the VG with the most easy classes in team;
2) Most thief players are really bad at playing
And regarding 2:
And GL in DS / TD meta using a melee zerk Thief.
Full zerker staff DD thief here. Both metas are kitten easy on such a build, if you know what you’re doing. If you go down a lot, you should stop blaming the class and blame your actual playing.
Nothing really wrong with that imo.
LOL.
Anyway, thief or everything is that broken in my opinion that 1k more healing won’t really solve anything.
1k?? ONE THOUSAND???
Keep dreaming mate, it’s only +434 base healing, it’ll still heal less than 5k overall.
Just to be clear, I’m not faulting Alkore, Argi & co. for doing what they do. This is not an accusation towards them. Without that amber guy, their queue time is probably around 60 minutes or so. They are just a bunch of guys who want to play the game and have found a convenient method of accomplishing shorter queue times. In my mind, Anet is the culprit here for releasing a potato system that is bad for everybody, both filthy casuals such as myself and ESL no-lifers.
And, for the same love of full disclosure, I’m blaming them as much as I blame Anet.
Anet introduced a system which doesn’t make any sense at all, and on this I guess we all agree.
On the other side, I blame the exploiters too, for a simple reason: who, in his/her right mind, finds fun roflstomping 9 out of 10 soloqueuers or lower MMR players just because “I don’t want to queue for more than 10 minutes”?
This kind of attitude speaks volume about how selfish (at best) these persons are.
They’re contributing in destroying more and more the PvP population, just because “we don’t want to wait too much for playing”. It’s shortsighted and stupid. But I guess they need to feel special winning 500-0 one time out of 2.
For those wondering what Leeto is talking about, see screenie below. Five-stack with a random amber against a solo PuG. And before you ask, yes, of course I lost a pip.
I might be on the slow side, but even I’m starting to think that Anet does not want me (a soloer) as a customer. Interesting strategy.
Look at dat amber player.
The exploiting is so real it’s hilarious. In a bad way.
At this point I’ll settle for an account-bound +10% withdraw unlock found inside wintersday gifts!
Look at how many players are in DOTA2 and how many are in GW2 ranked PvP, how long you think that a team exclusive queue would be, even worse, imagine same scenario in non prime hours?
So the solution is to frustrate more and more soloqueuers putting them against duo+ queuers up to the point of making them quit completely the game?
Seems legit.
Guys, personal score does matter.
In the sense that as soon as anyone starts trashing teammates about it as if it was a metric of personal skill and contribution to the team, you just spotted another newbie who you’d rather have on the opposing team than in yours. :>
Please buff warriors.
No. Just no. No one needs more buffs, we need a lot of targeted nerfs to revert this stupid power creep. All classes need to be brought down to the level of warrior and thief.
I saw a thief run to decap a point faster than a shiro revnant. They’re obviously too strong.
No.
Because the revenant arrived at the point.
RIP thief.
So… you want art designers to replace devs?
Devs? What devs? Do they have actual devs? Pics or it didn’t happen.
someone translate this please….!
It’s pretty clear to me.
And it makes sense too, which scares me actually.
Those people playing warrior and thief crying for a nerf need to learn to play.
It’s clearly a l2p issue.
Yours, I mean.
As it stands, I feel like DD is the only elite class that was correctly designed, with maybe Berserker too. Correctly designed in the sense of not going overboard on powercreep while still maintaining a little edge compared to non elites for HoT selling purposes.
I agree with the first part (not a lot of powercreep), but strongly disagree with the latter: a staff/dp DD is way, way better than any other basic traits spec hands down.
5 staff sword/shield soldier chronomancers per team.
sounds good.
Isn’t it already this way? No need to patch, really.
Bets are open!
1g says we won’t get the +10% the 15th.
What EazyPanda said.
In open world PvE you should NEVER die, unless you try too hard and want to solo some champs HP in Maguuma. We have plenty of evades, damage, position control, escape, etc., I am running too a staff/sb build and never, ever get downed/die in the “outside”. I guess you need to get used to a different kind of gameplay from the one in PvP, know for example when/how to avoid the attack of smokescales etc.
Regarding raids, well… you can’t fight people ignorance. I’m no genius of the thief class, but I managed for example to beat the VG with a semi-organized raid group (with 6 guildies and 4 pugs) with around 2:40 remaining on the timer. Funny story: the pugs were astonished by how much DPS the whole group was unleashing, stating a couple of times “I always thought thief was useless with poor damage, now I don’t anymore”.
The fact for raid is: most of the time, the pseudo-meta-copypasta players who don’t want a thief are just BAD PLAYERS. They think party comp is most important than actual skill. And ofc I would never bring 2+ thieves in a raid group, but as Eazy again said, the moment I have a herald+ps war+ chrono+druid, the ideal 5th spot for the sub 1 is a staff daredevil (but even without the druid, eh).
The thief class will always get the most hate, be it “OP n00b class, plz nerf!” or “OMG we’re screwed you’re so uselezz bring harald!!1”.
Now it’s working again.
+1, same issue here, the dl of the 64bit is capped at 3KB/s.
Necro can have his spot about raids. Thief apparently is decent as venomshare or staff DD but I haven’t seen either in action so I can’t really confirm that. Also you’re probably talking about pugs and you don’t want to raid with them in the first place.
Thief staff DD it’s not “decent”, it’s probably the highest power DPS available, I just finished the weekly VG run, done with 1:50 remaining on timer, and with 4 guys pugged (DH, Druid, DD, 2 Heralds, PS war, Chrono, Engi, Necro, Tempest).
But until people will follow blindly other people comps, there’ll be always be class discrimination based on ignorance.
Asura master race.
Well this is not a valid reason, the low HP isnt a problem. If a thief is able to play in raids he doesnt get hit and that’s a fact. Another fact is that dps-wise staff daredevil is best phisical direct dmg.
The real prolem is the lack of utility and party-wide buffs. So it’s not a general hate toward the class but the real lack of added value to a raid comp apart from dps itself.
As I said (and you, too), when you got the right support classes, the last slot in a sub is a perfect fit for a staff DD. What’s the need of another “support” toon, when you have herald/ps war/druid/chrono?
Dodging after firing Shortbow 5, but before it lands results in losing dodge distance.
Sadly this isn’t 3 years old, but somewhat younger. There WAS a time when we could dodge out of shadowstepping with #5… sigh.
What was lost and regained?
Patch 2 days ago: Steal could be used only on a target, so you couldn’t use it anymore without a target to trigger Thrill of the Crime.
Patch today: Reverted it as it worked before (could use it without a target triggering Thrill), and as a bonus now Steal won’t go in shorter CD when trying to use it with a target but out of range.
Actually, one of the best sub you can form in a raid is a herald/druid/chrono/ps war/staff daredevil DPS wise.
The problem with the thief, the real problem, is that one is enough and that one must know how to play, and let’s be honest (and I say this as a thief players), there’re a lot of thieves out there that have no clue how to play it well.
If a thief plays bad, it’s way more a liability of, say, a bad herald. That’s the real problem.
All the rest, is just basic ignorance about what a thief can and can’t deliver.
