Keep the zerk gear so you can deal damage and use the very forgiving Altruistic Healing + Empowering Might combination. Those are traits in defensive lines so taking them reduces your damage potential but dead players deal no damage, right?

It’s a good way to avoid dying constantly while you learn the game.

There’s no doubt the meta will change but I doubt guardians will fall out of it; even without stability they have phenomenal group support. We’ll probably see stability used reactively instead of proactively, emphasis on ranged pressure combined with ranged CC and lots of zerk staff eles.

As Synosius stated, NA servers are almost entirely english. To run with a spanish speaking crew you will need to look for a spanish speaking guild that’s WvW focused, then join whatever server they are on.

This is not a player caused problem, this is a Game Development caused problem – or rather a lack of rethinking the logic used.
If this is a player caused problem, perhas SBI and HoD might get better and compete against YB instead of letting YB roll them up.

Agreed. That solution will have to change the system to prevent players from recreating the same problem though and that means limiting player choice.

Every time solutions are discussed people start protesting that they don’t want to change where they play or who they play with…. while simultaneously complaining that populations are unbalanced. Populations can’t be balanced without changing these things.

I am not too sure how YB got matched with two T4 servers honestly. It was like a 3% chance and whammo it happened. For whatever reason T1 doesn’t want to mix with T2 at all. You see it week after week. Whichever server starts to drop close to T2 levels mysteriously wins that next week, and the Glicko rises too high to roll T2. T2 servers don’t have the offhours coverage to really threaten any T1 servers, but NA would be sweet.

It’s not mysterious; they rotate ‘push weeks’ (a polite name for match fixing). The forums have openly discussed it several times that I’ve seen.

Removing white swords solved the problem like a charm. But no one wanted that. People don’t like adapting to anything new. Period.

Yeah… nope. All you saw was that less players were in World vs. World during that period of time and you mistook it for players being encouraged to “blob less.” I’m glad I could clear this up for you!

Removing white swords gave an incentive for players to pry away from zerging and engage in small group activity. Thus you saw many objectives get constantly flipped by havok teams.

I saw tons of roamer/havok complaints that the lack of white swords made it very hard for them find worthwhile fights.

I’m still a proponent of the “crowded” debuff. It would read something like if/while =>20 within the radius of “x”, then Crowded.

Crowded = -50% crit chance, -50% movement speed

Of course these numbers are flexible but it would discourage inefficiently large groups and it makes sense in that if that many people were really that close I don’t think they’d be able to move very fast or accurately strike.

Consider how it could be abused. Don’t like the leader of another guild on your server? Find out when they raid WvW and call out your guild to stick to them like glue so they are debuffed the whole time!

Compared to the warrior shield skills the Guardian shield in PvP is abysmal. I could be completely off since I just came back to the game and missing something but just feels very bad.

Remove aoe limits for 1 thing. ESO is doing this for exactly this reason.

The problem with removing or increasing the aoe limit is its a double edged sword, it will simply encourage more blobbing, because smaller groups will get hit more. If you can hit more targets so can the blob, how long do you think a smaller group will last then. And I cant see anet ever allowing players weapon/utility skills being able to hit 50 players at once.

Yup. Anyone who’s actually played a game without AoE caps or taken the time to think this through knows what a disaster it would be.

Red circles aren’t that big – zergs would still zerg, they would just have to spread out a little bit during combat (like that doesn’t happen already). A bigger group could saturate a larger area with aoes while enveloping smaller groups. Sure, the bigger group would lose some players, but the smaller group would lose all their players.

Also, no one likes dying instantly without really having a chance. The new instagib meta would have players quitting in droves.

There must be some modifications to the WvW mechanic that can be done to prevent massive blobs. It just makes it impossible for anyone to defend anything when you get 100 people blobbling and rolling over everything.

What can be done to change this phenomenon?

You want to prevent blobs because they are hard to fight….. but if you had an equally large blob you could fight. On the other hand, if you take 25 people up against 100, shouldn’t the 100 have an advantage?

In battle, numbers matter. And they should.

All different game modes should have separate queues. I can’t take pvp seriously when I can’t chose what game I am playing.

As things are now people who want to Deathmatch get stuck in Conquest and usually just deathmatch on mid while ignoring objectives. Others who prefer Conquest get stuck in frustrating deathmatches with no objectives beyond ‘kill lots’.

Adding a new game mode to the current one-queue-fits-all system will only make it worse.

I don’t see how anyone could disagree with this, it just encourages bad habits, bad behavior, dumbs down the game and let’s lesser skilled players stand a chance in sitations where they shouldn’t.

It’s bad for the future of the game and the competitive scene, and makes entry level PVP stagnant and less active because a new player will die to someone using 100% AI builds, get frustrated, and probably stop PVPing all together. Which leads to a smaller player base, and less potential new teams that could be competing in high level play.

I don’t see how anyone could suggest this in an MMO with multiple classes literally designed to function with integral AI. Sounds like you should try an FPS. I would agree with the need for an AI overhaul in this game; it’s been awful since launch.

That’s a deceptive statement since most of a celestial d/d ele’s Might stacks aren’t coming from SoB. It’s a nerf, sure; but try recalculating overall %damage loss with all buffs. The loss isn’t anywhere near as huge as you are making it out to be.

Best classes for roaming are thief/mesmer/warrior/ele/engie. All of them can engage and disengage from fight. Necros can’t catch anyone or run out if they need too.

I’ve always had a problem with defining ‘best’ as ‘best at running away’.

T3 NA completely broken

This is not a matchup thread as it address the general problem of T3 (NA) where the top server is significantly larger than the two weaker servers — no matter who those three servers are.

(Look at, for example, the last four weeks worth of scores from T3, or if you go by ratings points, there’s a gap of around 200 between top of T3 and the other two servers.)

How would you deal with this?

Player-driven solutions (e.g.: double team; tank into T4 and let some other sucker go up to T3) have a possibility of being implemented so they are especially welcome.

But dev-driven solutions are welcome as well because, who knows, maybe some dev-to-be in this thread can use the ideas in a future WvW-like game.

The problem is that we now have 4 T2 servers.

Yak’s Bend and Dragonbrand (former T3 servers) moved up to T2 level and Mag plummeted so now T3 is a blowout every week until something changes with populations or WvW as a whole.

Death shroud is our biggest problem…

Sad when the profession’s core mechanic is it’s biggest problem, but so true. Personally I think all healing should work (unreduced) in DS and then lifeforce should be rebalanced around that healing change. [edit: because the anti-synergy of non-healing is stupid-broken.]

Normalizing the speed of LF gain might help; put an upper limit on how quickly LF can accumulate to keep it from being stupid-godly with multiple deaths nearby but add some LF gain to all attacks (in much smaller amounts than currently). That way we could count on being able to consistently build LF at a reasonable rate – something we can’t do with most weapons now.

If you read their original announcement (which was to permanently remove white swords), the reason was to fix the mess that siege disablers created. Basically one bad mechanic on top of another.

This was the only official info given. It would be nice if a dev would chime in with more on what they are thinking.

I have no objection to consolidating AP reward, but fewer options to get dailies is bad. I used to be able to just play for an hour or two and the daily would be completed without me having to go out of my way. IMO this is what dailies should be – a reward for getting on and playing as I normally would. Not a checklist where I have to run around doing stuff I normally wouldn’t to complete.

Fewer options is not better.

I think it’s been there for a long time. AFAIK they can block you/invite to party, check the display name and then whisper to it.

I’ve also seen it and would like it to be fixed.

This has happened to me once; I took it as a back-handed compliment and was rather amused. But that didn’t stop me from immediately blocking the kitten.

I’ve created, for the thief profession, a Nerf Wish List where you can submit any nerf you wish to be applied to the thief, so far there’s 9 pages of that thread.

(Let’s think of it this way, if there’s 1 dedicated thread for requesting thief nerfs, with a couple pages worth of solid QQ’s (no not full 9 pages, i would guess 4-5)… and that’s just for one profession…. since this “balance” forum encompass more than just one profession, one might think that there’s well over 4-5 pages of solid QQs that span across ALL the professions)

And really, do you think people will complain less when the forum is gone? Unlikely. The individual profession forums will just get uglier.

Because its a steaming pile of player-frustrations, spawned from repeatedly experienced downstates in WvW and PvP.
The majority of threads here is not about “balance”, but revenge-nerfs.
Therefore it gets closed on December the 9th.

If you want to discuss balance issues that touch on multiple classes where will you post it?

In the CDI subforum, where it belongs to.
And if your suggestions consists of more than the usual “nerf this, because I die to it too often”, you have a better chance that it will be picked up there.
Bonus points for regular cleanse and removal of QQ-threads.

Fare well “Profession Balance”, we’ll not miss you.

Unfortunately the CDI subforum will likely only accept feedback on things they are currently running CDIs for. I applaud and support that initiative, but there just aren’t enough devs to discuss everything all the time.

Can we remove the teleporting through floors/walls pls?
It would benefit the game in 2 ways:
1) It would go a long way toward making proffs without teleports valuable as roamers
2) It would allow for zerker builds that rely on positioning for defense more play.

I would like to see these abilities fixed to behave consistently (I don’t really care which way the fix goes as long as its consistent). But my understanding is that this is a world coding issue with specific places. So it works on some places where it shouldn’t, and doesn’t work in other places where it clearly should.

If you want to discuss balance issues that touch on multiple classes where will you post it? Pick one profession forum and put it there? Fewer people with less varied viewpoints will see it and discussions will be less rich as a result.

I’ve always liked this forum. Sure there are rants, but that’s true of every forum. I’ve seen this as the ‘neutral ground’ of the profession section where players of different professions can discuss inter-class balance. And there have been a lot of very good discussions here.

when necromancers enters death shroud, weapons skills 1 – 5 are replaced with death shroud skills while skills 6 – 10 are locked out and replaced with a padlock icon.

instead of the padlock icon, show the recharge timer for skills 6 – 10, if the skills are not on cool down then it shows the padlock icon as usual.

at least we will know our heal is ready when we exit death shroud, or other skills.

this will be a much welcomed feature of life upgrade for necromancer players.

This is a balance-neutral significant QoL improvement that should be added to all transforms/bundles that lock utilities. A benefit to lots of classes might justify the development time.

Necromancers Punished For Having Regen

This has the potential to be true but would not necessarily be the case if it was balanced well. No healing in DS is an example of fast/lazy/sloppy design. Would it be harder to balance? Absolutely. But not allowing healing in DS creates so much anti-synergy that the intended overall class design is non-functional.

Necros have minimal defense because “omg second life bar”. But DS blocks virtually every other ability/mechanic and in isolation DS isn’t good enough to justify this “minimal defense” trade off. Therefore DS should not be as isolated from other mechanics (like healing).

This is easy to prevent: stand still for a second, then continue your descent. It seems to be a design flaw in the way falling damage is calculated; if you descend too much Z axis distance in too short a time you take falling damage whether you are actually falling or not.

I would love to see it fixed because there are plenty of times when hauling kitten is important and I don’t want to stop for a second so I can avoid killing my self by running down a hill.

Posted a similar but cheaper build of mine in xFireize’s thread. Uses some cleric’s stuff because I love the dodge roll heals especially with almost constant vigor up-time. It’s more for zerg than roaming though.

[edit] Heavy cleric’s is definitely out of favor for roaming; those builds depended on very high boon up-time for crazy sustain and some damage buffing. The boon duration nerf hit them pretty hard.

[WvW Build] Havoc Squad Amplifier

I’ve run a similar (but very cheap) build in coordinated WvW zerg groups. I shoot for slightly different priorities:

1) enough healing for ~1k dodgerolls
2) ~ 20% crit to proc vigor on every staff#1 (on average w/ 5 targets)
3) boon duration food for a total of 65% boon duration (not really worried about condi duration in a big group w/ lots of cleanses)

and yes I actually like the hydromancy sigils, they are cheap and very useful on a class with no kitten soft CC

The damage doesn’t seem out of line with the cast time. The QoL is terrible and could use some adjustment so it feels less slow.

My main objection is field spam. Yes protection is great, but no auto-attack in the game should include combo fields because it messes up coordinated team combos.

We already have auto-kick for inactive players in some game modes. Maybe commander tags should get an auto-untag feature that automatically deactivates their tag when the commander is afk for a certain length of time.

It’s simple really, you don’t need defense, because you get two dodges.

Dangerous mobs will take you out in one or two hits. You don’t need defense if you can kill them quick enough, since you can just dodge their attacks.

and furthermore, you don’t need defense, because you ONLY get two dodges.

After you’ve dodged twice, you’re all out. If you went zerker then odds are the mob will soon be dead, if it isn’t already. If you went tank, you’re doomed.

No matter what class you play 2 or 3 big hits and you’re done. So if you can live through one hit as a zerker, and two hits as a tank, and going tank means doubling the time it takes to kill something, you’ve made a huge mistake.

Even worse are the people that go cleric, since they never live long enough to heal… so what is the point of having good healing?

The new Living Story area just reinforces all of this.

My high dps characters kill mobs one or two at a time, and have to be very careful. My tank classes don’t stand a chance. The thorn wolves are a perfect example of kill them fast, or you’re dead.

So if you are new to GW2, just buy zerker and get used to dodging, because now more than ever the only defense is high offense.

I’m going to disagree on advice for new players or for new content. And for non-PvE game modes (you did post this in the profession balance forum, after all). Having some extra survivability can help a great deal.

‘Go zerk or go home’ applies to known static PvE dungeon encounters where the big ‘challenges’ are bosses that hit really hard (so defense is less useful) and there are no surprises because its the same mechanics every time.

[edit: protip for advice giving, especially to new players: explain what you are giving advice for (e.g. pve, dungeons, etc) instead of tossing out a bunch of unqualified statements]
