With a little luck you can. The problem comes to if you are unlucky. I just hit 50 and I have not had a good lvl 45+ heavy armor drop for me in the past 5 levels. I have now ‘outgrown’ my armor and hits I take are starting to sting more. I have to make a choice now, farm around until I get that better armor, craft it, or head to the TP and buy some.

Solution to the 'no dynamic feel'

People seem to not feel any dynamic change to the game because we are constantly at a state of, players own everything.

Once in a while send in a coordinated push from the AI that attacks all held positions at the same time with overwhelming odds. I’m meaning have the AI zerg us. We will consider it the ultimate challenge. We won’t be able to take part in every DE at that same time so we will have to prioritize and we will inevitably lose something. Then we can take everything back!

Long CD Elites In GW2

I completely agree, I liked the GW1 elites better, good strong skills that formed a staple to your skill bar rather than massive hit skills that I only use when I face a Vet or Champ. I do miss the GW1 skill sets…

But that’s really the direction they went with every skill in this game. I have to spend more time thinking, do I want to use the skill or shall I just auto attack it to death…They seem to want us to pick the right time to use the skill, knowing we won’t have it back for a while. Frivolous use of skills just doesn’t cut it.

ANet wants you to go to all the different zones and play with all of the content, not just run the same areas over and over. That’s why the downlevel system is in place, and that’s why repeated farming is penalised.

If A-Net truely wants us to go all over the map they should lower the waypoint costs. We are getting mixed messages. Hey don’t waypoint all over the place because it will cost you more than you can handle. But don’t stay in the same place either…

So I’m confused about something. We have anti-bot code that limits the botters from getting massive rewards for farming an area. The botters are not hindered by this as we can plainly see botters are a massive inconvenience at this point. It seems to be the ‘normal’ players that have not found a way around this yet.

So what do the botters know that you don’t? Perhaps instead of farming just one spot they get a farming rotation going? Crop rotation is the oldest technique in farming…

Expansion Pack question for GW1 players

The level cap in GW1 was lvl 20, 90% of the game was played at lvl 20 thus you virtually had no levels. Each new chapter added new skills weapons and classes.

For GW2 expansions you will probably see new classes, entire new maps, Cantha and Elona, and if we are lucky we will get a new playable race, but doubtful. I want to be a warden…

"no trinity" and melee bosses...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GrimShade.8091

GrimShade.8091

The results cater to your understanding of that game and your desire to have an illogical fight handed to you. GW1 had the same issue of people who didn’t understand how to handle the system complaining. After a while everyone learned to play with the new rules or they left. That is what you are stuck doing now. Learn to play with these new rules or don’t play. This new agro/no agro system is a feature of the game and one that attracts me to play it.

The game does not need to assign roles to each player, we as the players need to do that. If we can’t then we have failed, or the PUG massively failed. For GW1 people generally got theirkitten handed to them on the first few runs through dungeons. After that they learned what they needed to bring. Many of the high level dungeons needed specific skills or you would get in 45 min of playing and hit a brick wall. After that people brought the skills and won.

So are you the type of player that will figure out how to play and win or will you leave because you want to play the other game just re-packaged with a different title?

"no trinity" and melee bosses...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GrimShade.8091

GrimShade.8091

The main problem with the logic behind a trinity is that the monsters want to attack the ‘tank.’ We as the players don’t attack the tank before the healer so why should they? Again take yourself to PvP and do you want to attack the tank? Who in their right mind would attack the guy who is not going to die?

GW1 broke the trinity to an extent in that I had no way to make monsters attack me. I actively had to body block and knock down things that wanted to run past me and attack my back line. The art of the Warrior was no longer stand in the middle, hit the hate skill and get healed by the monk that isn’t getting attacked. If I wanted to tank I had to set up a pull, body block against something and soak it up. On the flip side I could just accept that monsters weren’t going to attack me and they wanted to go straight for the monk. The art of the monk became kyting and staying alive while the art of the warrior was massively killing and chasing down things.

Here we removed the dedicated healer but if I want to hold agro I still have to work at it. I can and have held agro on my warrior in this game, I had to corner things, tie them up with immobile and knock down, shield stanceing things to keep that nasty thing in place while I don’t get hit and I heal. It really is a more advanced type of play than hit button 2 then 3 to keep hate up, then get healed. I only wish they had made body blocking more prevalent.

The real objection we have that is legitimate is the massive melee damage bosses do that make it virtually impossible to exists in melee range with them. The means I don’t bother to jump in on many Champs I sit back and plink with my rifle. I personally enjoy getting in close and having a skilled use of interrupts and blocks to stay in melee range. The long cool down on the skills means I don’t get to stay in melee, I have to roll out and use the rifle while my skills are on CD.

One thing the GW franchise is known for or the stated goal is to bring more ‘intelligent’ AI to the mix. Having the AI attack the most sturdy and hardest to kill in the group is actually pretty dumb. In PvP do you attack the guy who is hardest to kill or the easiest to kill first? As such hate and agro are completely different than games that have ‘stupid’ AI and you can trick into attacking you.

For this game if you want to keep agro you must work for it. CC is part of the tanks job, each class has skills that hold the monster things in place or keep them from moving ‘fast.’ On a sword warrior my burst skill immobilizes you for a while. In PvP that keeps you from running away, in PvE this keeps the monster thing from chasing my squishies. Hammers have knock down and knock back. Thieves have cripple.

But a better tactic really is ping pong agro. Thief takes agro until the thing gets in close or hurts the thief, then he stealth’s. Monster now targets the elly, then a guardian comes in to drag him away from the elly, and while the monster is attacking the guardian, the thief unloads on him. This really is an inelegant but also inteligant way to have agro. IMO it makes the hate system insanely stupid…’hey I can hit skill 2 and everything attacks me, YAY.’ Really?

I have to agree to a certain extent on a few champion fights. I spend 15 min killing something and afterwards I think, well that was anticlimactic…Not even one drop. I’ve resolved to move on by next time I see a roving giant killing people, the effort and time it takes isn’t worth my time, hopefully others will enjoy it. What I do enjoy was the events that give access to a special vendor after the event chain is over, perhaps because we never lose these event chains right now it’s not important to me to win then.

I recently found a little ‘Easter egg’ where I got to fight Tenad the Faithful. You have properly summon him but after he dies you just move on. It would be good to have something noticeable after you killed the guy who imprisoned all these angry ghosts and you had to solve a riddle just to fight him. Perhaps a ghost vendor that sold ghost weapon skins.

1. The world is ever changing, the problem is with so many player in these area’s currently the world is at a state of kitten already kicked.’ What we need once in a while is a horde of monsters that just trash everyone and take the world back. A horde that scales bigger than any amount of players that show up for it. Then the world would revert to monster controlled instead of player controlled.

2. Have to disagree, I’d love to see levels removed so people stop thinking it’s important.

3. If you remove levels than all area’s are at max level and all area’s are worth adventuring in. This was the beauty of GW1, everywhere was max level.

Ya know when I am lvl 30 and run through a lvl 5 area I feel like the king as I shread everything I see. How is a lvl 80 running through the same zone in any type of danger? Weapons, Armor and traits are still keeping you stronger than a normal leveled player in the area.

If you really have a problem roll a Thief for your farmer. You can run strait through everything, drawing all the agro you want and lose it just by going stealth.

Lastly the most important crafting material is a drop from killing things. You can’t harvest them you must kill…argument is now null and void as your real argument is ‘I want to kill everything with one orb so I can get the drops.’

My opinion of combat - Incredible bias against melee!

GrimShade.8091

As a habitual melee’er I’ll just agree with most of what is said. Standard trash mobs I can melee just fine what gets annoying is those bosses. If I stay in the fight for a while I end up getting one or two shot. Or if I can take a few shots I’m usually crippled and there would be almost no way of getting out. Next to that many bosses just stand on top of the dead melee guys preventing rezing.

A few recommendations:
Much more mobile bosses: Giants just stand around and one shot anything close, I see so many people needing rez’ing because that thing won’t move away. I actually pulled agro from one this weekend and deliberately moved it away so everyone could get rezed. More mobility means ranged have more to fear and we can rez the poor kittens that went melee.

1 hit max from ‘shotgun’ style attacks. I know you are loading those things up so they hurt people at range but if I’m in melee I’ll take all the hits dropping me and the ranged guys just sit back and laugh.

Some type of melee specific condition or significantly better damage: Condition damage is one of the best things we can put out there but I can load up bleed just as well on my rifle as I can on my sword. The actual damage done by going in melee is negligible vs the risk of going down. I’ll just sit back and pew pew a bit but this makes fighting that giant really tedious.

Melee damage mitigation: As a Warrior my best option to mitigate damage is the same as an Elly, don’t be there. How can I not be there and be in melee? I’ve said this many times before but some sort of damage mitigation associated with melee weapons.

Honestly…as a big GW2 fan I think this is the biggest problem.

The DEs are not difficult enough. If they make the DEs just difficult, maybe even as hard as the dungeon mobs and make them require coordination from those that do show up you are going to see a different game. I’ve seen DE’s fail and that DE failing affecting another DE. It’s a beautiful thing to see a escort mission halted because a bridge was just blown up and now you have to help rebuild the bridge and get the people across.

I think if the DEs were more fun, they’d be more rewarding regardless of loot. Right now they are just way way way too easy.

True, I’ll contrast to a Group event I did like. Spider boss: health went down at a fair pace, but at 75%, 50% 25% the boss was healed and a ton of baby spiders popped out that you needed to kill off. I needed to pay attention and switch weapons and targets during the fight. This little element added a huge amount of fun.

While I agree that playing is its own reward I sat in at least four Champion fights this weekend that lasted over 15 min each. They were tedious, I just ran around dodging the big attacks, rezing and sitting there attacking, for 15 min…When the boss died people just went about their business like nothing ever happened.

After four of them, I started asking why. Why did I spend 15 min killing that thing, it wasn’t really pleasurable, it didn’t really challenge me it just took a lot of time. I got the reward of any DE, exp, karma and a modest amount of copper. But it was not fun, I lost any sense of change in the world as places rarely fall back into enemy hands at this point.

Perhaps it would be more fun if once in a while things just kicked our butt and we lost control. Then we are fighting to change something not maintain it. The most fun I had was defending an outpost when it was me and maybe two others. We got stomped and lost the DE, Centaurs took over the camp.

Carrots on a stick are one reason to grab attention and keep interest going. Next time I see a group event with a Giant destroying everyone, I’ll probably walk on by. I don’t want to spend 15 min peppering him with my rifle just waiting for skill 3 and 4 to recharge so I can hit those buttons.

Sooner or later the high end mats will be just as cheap as copper is now. Mats will be harvested so much that there will be an excess and it won’t nearly be as valuable as it is now. I can remember getting 30c per copper in the first few days, now I can’t give it away. The only exception is cooking supplies as those can be consumed.

Be it Orr or and other part of the map my Thief is much happier when we have a zerg going. Shortbow almost guarantee’s me a tag on everything attacking, while most bows just tag one after the other. I’m sure I’ll keep my thief up to some Orring…

If kills didn’t have any reward there would be no point to killing anything outside an event. We would all just run past things to get to events and exploring would have no point…

where is really counts is when you are at a level that allows you to get ‘new gear.’ I had a few runs at a lvl 10 storyline once. While I was under leveled i couldn’t do it. Once i hit 10 I crafted up new armor and weapons and flew through it.

PvE on my Warrior I can quite easily melee everything up to a Champ, for those I pepper them at range then move to melee to finish them off.

WvW is just a zerg fest, you can try to take point with small groups but if you get zerged you are kitten no matter what. I spent a few hours last night with my rifle trying to get a shot or two off as the zerg rolled over things. I keep melee on switch for the times when I find a small group and we can get in smaller skirmishes. I’m usually fully charged on adrenaline by that time.

It will be nice to see some WvW that has more small groups that take things after the zerg is no longer in the area. That will need some coordination so people can call where the zerg is and you can then avoid it.

If all you are interested in is PvP, then you really just complained because you stink at PvP. You saw a video of a guy who was lucky enough to get a 1 on 1. The game put some reality in it and if you do 2 or 3 on 1 then you are guaranteed to win. People know this and thus they stick together. So find your group and stay with them, don’t run off on your own and think you will run into someone else who also did the same. Those who run on their own are generally ‘cappers’ who avoid fighting.

Again I’ll say try dealing with PvE. You don’t seem to have the patience for PvP and you also haven’t learned from your mistakes.

The purpose for the PvP rewards are the skins not the stats. This game will let you have equal stats so that your skill at playing is important not the gear you use. As such you can reward yourself by looking like a badkitten
