Noob question: What is DR? O_o
The only DR i know of is Divinity’s Reach, but unless you are planning a terrorist attack on Kryta’s capital, i don’t think you are talking about the city. So, what’s DR?

Diminishing returns. It’s the point at which the game decides you’ve done so much of the same thing that you might be a bot, therefore it lessens the rewards.

I like Dreamer and Kudzu also also, and I’m a guy. I think this whole weird machismo of “I’m a dude so I can’t like flowers or colors” in our culture needs to go.

So,you would try to ignore something which is present from days when Adam and Eve played with toys in sand?

Yes…sure

If you as a guy, love having female looking weapons, and armors, feel free to do so,but do not try spread your way of thinking on us.I like to use pink and olive on my Lunatic Outfit, and i do love some flowers, but, what is wrong,it is wrong.Just look at some weapons and new things they added in GemStore.Me as a male,i do not like to have shiny pink backpack,or some other “Flower child” type of weapon. When i saw bow shooting pony,i was deeply disappointed in ArenaNet.

What is being ignored about the story of Adam and Eve? And where you say “but what is wrong, it is wrong” what does that mean?

Flowers are natural. The only reason you associate them with females is because of your cultural indoctrination. Pink used to be the color associated with baby boys in the US, and blue with girls. Claiming biblical “proof” of what is masculine and/or feminine is ridiculous. What’s wrong with just accepting that people like what they like, and that doesn’t make them anything other than the sum of who they are? Men and women are allowed to like the same things. People don’t fit in neat little boxes.

If you want to be like Adam and Eve, go be a nudist.

I haven’t played any of the HoT specials, for I am HoTless (How can I be so HoTless?), but this is my order of preference in the main game.
1. Thief. Didn’t even have to think about it.
2. Engineer.
3. Warrior.
4. Ranger
5. Necromancer
6. Guardian
7. Mesmer
8. Elementalist

Obviously, this is only in terms of my favorites to play, personally. It’s not an objective look at what I think is “best” or “meta” or anything like that. And, really, Ele is the only one I actively avoid playing, just because I’m not terribly good at it and don’t enjoy the style. The rest are all pretty close together. But, yeah, I knew immediately how this list would start and end.

Sense dungeons are dead now

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

i think we need an alternative way to obtain the dungeon armors, sigils, runes and weapons.

Dungeons haven’t changed in the least, so they aren’t “dead.” Maybe you mean that the gold rewards are gone and people are busy with newer content and so there are fewer LFGs for dungeons. Personally, even if they doubled the rewards, I’d still be more interested in the new zones, challenges, raids, and pushing my fractal level.

In the meantime, as suggested above:

  • PvP reward tracks (do your dailies and you make solid progress, with a skin or two a week — more if you play regularly).
  • Find a guild that specializes in dungeons.
  • Wait for a month or two, for people to get a handle on the new zones and start looking for other diversions.

Weren’t dungeon token rewards nerfed too? So it’s not just the liquid rewards. If anet truly wants to de-incentivize this content, they need to put in another method to acquire these items.

Some sets of glasses haven’t been back, and the bunny ears that everyone is so desperate for. That’s just off the top of my head.

The bunny ears was a town clothes. It was never sold in the gem store as an armor skin. You’d have to list the glasses by name for me to be sure but the Inventor’s, the Sport, the Wide Rim and the Aviator were also town clothes, not armor skins sold in the gemstore.

Gemstore: Historical

Yep, they were sold as town clothes, but when the wardrobe was implemented, they were converted into skins and unlocked for those who owned them, rather than becoming tonics.

Have you even paid attention to what goes on in this industry?

Archeage told founding members they’d get a discount in their cash shop, a promise which they never delivered on. SWToR went free to play. Apparently you need to subscribe to get a second skill bar and to remove your helm. Lotro is a free to play game with entire areas and professions locked behind a pay wall.

Anet is taking a bit more time to get some legendaries out. Oh the horror.

There hasn’t been an MMO shipped complete in I don’t remember how long. Rift shipped complete but the game was tiny (and they still had a massive security flaw that saw tens of thousands of accounts hacked).

I’m just not sure why you think this is such a big deal.

Yeah, shame on people for expecting ANET to be any better than the companies behind your list of, frankly, appalling treatment of their customers. It’s true that having standards is utterly pointless and that we should just sit down and be grateful that we’re allowed to pay them for whatever they decide to give us.

Allowing shady business tactics to pass is probably the best way to stop perpetuating them.

Sorry, but saying “Look at how much worse it is over there!” is an incredibly sad way of defending anything.

I was wondering if there could be a Black Lion Merchant or something to trade locked/unlocked unused skins into Transmutation Charges to free up some space.
The skins are in themselves just a free credit for a particular skin. It would allow
for more flexibility to the user to have this option.

Maybe even just the option to right click and convert to a charge?

There’s no other way to get the scraps, but you can buy the weapon skins off the trading post. I find that to generally be MUCH more cost-effective, personally. If you complete a collection of the skins (even the Halloween one, which only has 5 weapons) the collection rewards you with a number of tickets. I think that number should be a bit higher than it is, but it’s still a decent reward.

Profanity/hateful speech reaching new peaks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Since so many are so dead set against seeing any “swears”, I’ll stop using profanity when people can explain why profanity is bad.

So far nobody has ever been able to give me a good reason. It’s always “they just are!” and “iI’m offended because i was taught to be offended!”.

Think about it, and maybe you’ll realize profanity isn’t even worth discussing. Not talking about directed and targeted abuse here either, but the words themselves.

Profanity is bad because it’s against the Terms of Service you agreed to when you signed up to play in ANET’s playground. What you do in your own time is your business, and I honestly couldn’t care less if you communicate solely via a complex organization exclusively comprised of profanity. What you do in GW2 is ANET’s business.

I don’t understand this idea that words don’t have power. The words we use absolutely have power. In many ways, language shapes how we perceive the world. “The pen (kitten not needed) is mightier than the sword” is meaningful for a reason. If you even did a cursory study of linguistics, or even basic communication classes, you’d know that words have power.

I’m not saying that there aren’t instances where people are over-sensitive. I’m just saying that it’s wrong to perpetuate this idea that you can say whatever the kitten you want and it doesn’t effect people. It does. Own up to that.

EDIT: A wild kitten appeared in my quote about pens and swords!

TITLE EDIT: Do Sylvari have genitalia?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

No there are no genetalia. The story has explained this. They do not reproduce in any way. They sprouted from the pale tree.

The lore says they have external genitals.

Dream and Nightmare

No one knows how long the sylvari live. The oldest of their race are the firstborn, all of whom awakened twenty-five years ago. Sylvari show little signs of growing old, and none have yet died of advanced age. Physically, sylvari are male or female, and the relevant external biology is accurate on both, but they cannot sexually reproduce as the other races do; they have no internal organs capable of creating children. Whether they have their own methods of reproduction outside of the Pale Tree has yet to be seen.

No genetalia. It says Physically. not biologically. Ever seen a Ken doll? Can’t expect an understanding when you’re educated through magazines. Dolls have relevant external biology…but no genetalia. duh.

If you think a ken doll is, externally, biologically accurate, I have a couple of websites you should visit.

Well, I’m going to have to point out that sylvari are fictional, so not only do they not have genitalia, they also don’t exist.

But the lore mentioned above is what I’ve always gone by- that the externals are based on humans and therefore they do have decorative genitalia in the context of the story. And it makes sense, given that we see multiple sylvari in relationships. (Caithe and Faolin obviously have a history, for example.)

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Guhracie.3419

I’m in a small guild. Anywhere from 5-10 players on consistantly. We’re up to GH Level 17. A fully built Guild Hall is going to take some time and effort and that’s just the way life is. This isn’t about instant gratification. In fact most of the things in HoT aren’t instant gratification. However, lots of people seem to want everything NOW NOW NOW and not have to work for them.

I can’t expect to own a Ferarri if my bank account is only big enough for a Civic.

This is SO FAR from what is being discussed in this thread that the wrongness is making my head hurt.

Here’s what happened: I owned a ferrari, but then the city said that my garage was only suitable for a civic, and that I could earn back the ferrari if I jumped through a bunch of hoops.

Now everyone is saying that I should be happy there’s a Civic in my garage, because there’s no way one person deserves to own a Ferrari, and that I shouldn’t feel entitled to my Ferrari. And I’m like, “Yo, this Civic doesn’t even have a motor in it.”

And you’re like, “So greedy, wanting everything NOW NOW NOW. GO EARN YOUR MOTOR.”

And I have no idea why people think that’s even appropriate.

Wait, what? I didn’t know that. Any more events that reward them? (or scraps)
And by really cheap I guess you mean “only” a few hundred gold?

The gallant set was around 50g a piece while it was still 1 ticket. Improvised was also hovering around 50g each, and several other sets didn’t peak for quite a while. I expect that the glittering weapons will stay expensive for some time, though.

As far as I know, you can get keys for chests via map completion, personal story, and pvp tracks, and the occasional rare drop. The tickets don’t have any other source that I’m aware of. In my opinion, it’s far more efficient to farm gold and buy from the trading post.

I wish I’d planned for this year’s halloween better. I’d like to have picked up the improvised set while it was cheap, but I was broke. Made a good investment in one of the skins, though.

Legendary crafting, just missed the mark

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Agree as well. The problem is 1st gen precursors have a market on the TP and Anet do not want to remove that market thus, came a crafting process akin to a shopping check list instead of a true journey (such a wasted opportunity).

I am waiting for the 2nd gen precursors “journey” to be out and if it is like the 1st gen’s, perhaps it is time to walk away because it is clear that Anet values economy more than thematic experiences.

I keep seeing that they are keeping the cost in line with the “market value” so that market doesn’t crash, but I thought they made crafted precursors account-bound and/or once-per-account. Additionally, the ability is locked behind HoT, so it’s not like you can just whip up a free account and knock out a few that way. Making it a simple gold sink just seems like lazy design, to me, and using the economy as an excuse is even worse. There will always be people who value time over money and buy off the trading post. To those of you saying this is a “grind”: Its only a “grind” if you make it a grind. Those of us who don’t have issues with the precursor crafting, are grabbing a group of friends, going to a map, and having a blast chaining events together for T6 mats, and gathering along the way.

My point: If you can’t make it fun, then just don’t do it. Its not like some serious requirement in the game, that is a fun-breaking feature.

Go play WoW. They give you epics just for logging in. How fullfilling is that? Did you earn it? Not really. Was it a journey you undertook? Not really. See where i’m getting at with this? LEGENDARIES were made to note the time and effort someone put forth to go out and craft and/or the crazy amount of money they spent in gem to gold transactions, to purchase one outright. Its prestige to have one, so it HAS to have some sort of challenge or time barrier to building it.

I know that reading comprehension is hard, so I’m going to try to spell this out as clearly as possible.

This thread isn’t about people complaining that precursor crafting is challenging. This point is very important, so I’m going to add another paragraph and suggest that you reread this one a few times.

This thread is saying that the “new” system isn’t a “Legendary Journey” at all. It is the same old system, it’s just that the old currency (gold) is disguised as materials.

And this is the last time in this thread that I’m going to try to explain this.

People tend to be negative about things they don’t like.

And people tend to be passionate about things they care about. Look at it this way, OP: if people simply didn’t care about the game, they’d just leave. We wouldn’t be here, posting, if the game didn’t matter to us. So when a thing we care about does things we don’t like, yeah. That’s going to evoke a response.

Sadly, ANET has a history of making things that should be fun into thinly-veiled, flavorless gold- and/or time-sinks.

And you would prefer?
I mean you can get a corresponding item fast, too. The type is called Exotic, and is has virtually the same power as the legendary, just looks less snazzy.

Did you really just ask me what I’d prefer? Do I really need to state this? I’d prefer things that are fun and flavorful. How was that not clear?

This is a system that’s been pushed back for almost three years now, and a grocery list is the best answer?

I’m not a game designer. I don’t get paid to come up with ideas for how to make things both fun and time-consuming. But I’d like to assume that if I were paid to come up with such things, I’d focus on the fun part.

I’d focus on what makes a weapon a legend in the world, and I’d go from there. There absolutely should be some amount of gathering “stuff” involved, but I’d like to think that, if this were my job, I wouldn’t just pass along a checklist of “stuff to gather” and call it done.

This system was one of the main selling points of the expansion, and it should be exciting. Instead, it’s basically the same thing, but instead of raw gold, you’re gathering raw materials that are approximately worth the raw gold. It’s underwhelming.

I like to think that if I’d had three years to work on this system, it wouldn’t be the same old system with a groucho marx mask on.

But, hey, if you’re happy with this system as it is, I guess you and I have different standards for what is considered to be exciting additions to the game.

Warframe did the Dojo building in their game right:

http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Clan#Clan_Tier

As the table shows, you can have different sized clans based on the biggest barracks build in your Dojo. Depending on that, you can invite more people, but at the same time all rooms you can build will increase in cost by the same multiplicative factor that got applied to the maximum amount of players your clan can hold.

If you are a small 10 player clan you will pay the minimum for each room. If you build barracks for the next clansize you can have 30 players but you will also pay 3 times the amount for rooms.

Rooms have building time, so reducing the clansize just to build a single room from 1000 to 10 will require like a week or so to rebuild back to 1000 max players and in the meantime 990 of your players will be without access to the clan or its dojo (which is required for research of new items).

As a member of a sub 10 player clan in that game, I have access to a massive dojo with every relevant research facility, tradings posts etc.
And we already have enough materials to build decorations and decorative room.

A similar system should be used in GW2.

My clan totally exploited that system.

We built the entirety of the functional dojo at minimum size and cost, and only then upgraded barracks and added everyone else. Not only that, warframe, as a f2p game supported completely by microtransactions, actually allowed us to speed track it through buying the puzzle piece thingies directly from the cash shop.

It’s an extremely easy system for large clans to exploit, and did nothing but make it even easier for large clans to subvert the cost.

I think DDOs system, after quite a few growing pains, is pretty good. Every guild can get a guild ship and slot in upgrades and buffs. They can even upgrade the ship to have more slots for those things. But it’s really hard for small guilds to get the best ships and keep every buff and upgrade running with out playing 24/7. It is a good balance and it is not really exploitable. There are lots of games they could have gotten ideas from.

They should have made it so that if a guild had everything unlocked before and then did the expedition and got a guild hall, that it then would have everything unlocked that it did before. And for new guilds or guilds that did not have anything the cost would be equal to what it was previously and used the same currency. There was really no reason to recreate the entire system. That was done so they could add some huge grind to it and only to add huge grind.

You do have everything unlocked that you had before, unless what you had no longer exists.

So there’s no way to provide your guild with a persistent boost to magic find or experience anymore? Was that functionality removed from the game?

I’d prefer new facial hair, tattoos, body types, and other customizations that aren’t face/hair.
