The prices are extremely weird. At first, things cost a few cobs. Then around 10 cobs. This year? 100+ cobs. That’s pretty significant.

Honestly, not everyone has a spare two hours to wait for diminishing returns to kick in for another hour of running the lab. Some people put kids to bed and have two hours to do event stuff. I guess we should quit expecting festivals to be for fun.

Thank you everyone who took part in this for me. Now I know. Still a bit confused on how a container will “tell” you it’s affected, but… I guess that neither here nor there. Because anything I do that gets me loot never states it is affected by MF so…. I give up

The hover text of the container will state that it is affected by magic find. It’s only specific containers in HoT.

Trait System Rework?

I am so happy with the trait/build system’s current incarnation after two years of the disastrous second version. I would hate to see this system abandoned. I have some issues with balance, particularly pertaining to elite specs, but that has almost nothing at all to do with the way we access and unlock builds.

So, first of all, nothing any developer says anywhere about anything can be considered unassailable fact, because there’s always a disclaimer that things may change. But you have to admit that the statement that we’ll see new types of legendaries and legendary armor in 2013 is pretty kitten close to that.

So to then add them behind a paywall and then cancel them? You can argue semantics all you want; that’s skeevy af, to me.

Ayrilana, Stronghold was introduced with HoT, then disabled in December. It’s not new content. It’s another fix.

If stronghold was disabled, why is it that I was just playing it the other day?

Because it was fixed and enabled again in the Spring patch? But you’re touting it as something new, which it’s not.

Did Stronghold exist before HoT? No. Therefore it is new.

It is new as of HoT. It is NOT considered new content introduced in the Spring patch, which was your original premise.

Read my actual post. I was not talking about the spring patch. I never even referenced the spring patch.

Also, it was brought back within a week. I even remember playing in in S2 which was before the spring patch.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Stronghold-Temporarily-Disabled/page/3#post5851406

How is your post even relevant if you didn’t read what you were responding to? This thread is discussing quarterly updates to the game since HoT, so I really don’t understand why you would read one post and assume it meant that nothing new has ever been introduced in pvp.

Raids are made by an independent team, and their development doesn’t effect otherworldly being done on PvE.

To say that development doesn’t effect other parts of the game is a flawed premise. These people are getting paid, right? And they’re not working on the rest of the game? That sort of sounds like what they had going on with the legendary six. Apparently, the dedicated team actually did effect overall development.

Toxicity in PvP - here's why.

in PvP

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Let me make sure I’m understanding you.
This:

You missed my point entirely.

There are people who only want their wins.
There are people who just want to “have fun and goof off”.

Their goals are different. Pairing them together is a recipe for disaster. In the end people will get at each other’s throats and nothing good will come of it.

Is it so hard to understand?

When one group’s goals interfere with another group’s goals conflict appears. The solution is to group people of similar goals and equal skill and knowledge appropriately.

And this:

So I was on reddit a few minutes ago and some happy poster posted this:

It is the same immaturity that plagues other PvP and FPS games and the problem is certainly not the people that are just there to play casually/have fun.

It was posted in a topic where people were discussing toxicity and its causes.
Well one of the causes is right there – in his post.

If you are playing PvP casually in a happy-go-lucky way you should not be playing in leagues.

I think Anet should take steps to make it more clear that people that just want to “play some pvp” but have no idea what PvP is, how it works and so on should be encouraged to not play leagues.

The real reason for toxicity as far as I see it is being matched with clueless people that don’t listen and go into PvP with the wrong attitude.

One solution I propose to fix this would be a PvP rank requirement for entry into leagues of let’s say 60. I understand this can be farmed too – but I doubt most “casual” PvPers will bother with farming it that high.

Also to those of you who will be asking – why not post this on reddit – the answer is: I dislike reddit and believe that discussion regarding GW2 should take place on the official forums – not some 3rd party website.

These two things are supposed to be the same point?

The one you posted first certainly sounds like the fault lies with the people who PvP in a “happy-go-lucky” fashion. Then you amend it to mean that the people who are playing in a way that doesn’t suit you should somehow be filtered out so that players (like yourself?) are not compelled to curse them out?

Yeahhh. Right. “It’s not my fault I scream at you! If you weren’t so happy/clueless all the time, I wouldn’t have to do this! Why do you make me so angry, baby?” That is what you are saying.

Never mind the fact that there’s absolutely no way for anet to quantify what you’re asking for.
Never mind that telling people to turn off chat as a way to avoid being exposed to verbal abuse is making the problem worse. (the ability to turn off chat does not put the people getting death threats at fault, despite your claims to the opposite)

The fact that, in your head, you are perfectly comfortable with this stance of, “filthy casuals just get what they have coming to them, and if it weren’t for their filth, most of the toxicity would decrease in pvp” and you legitimately believe it is actually extremely sad, to me.

You’ve read what is intended in leagues. Maybe if you don’t like the casual players, you should go pro? Or pull together 4 of the people in this thread who agree with you and form a team? There are already measures in place to avoid getting paired up with people who are “clueless” or “casual.” And they are methods that do line up with the terms of use. Try them.

Team up or lose
Should have been solo quequueueu but anet wants the people who have friends to be the winners.
My friends have quit and I have returned to attempt attain these wings but this system is a drainer and limited time makes it impossible for me as a university student.
They should reconsider their game modes and the way players are matched up.

I keep getting put in a team with cloths being a cloth myself we get rolled kind of stupid

Armor weight does not indicate tankiness in GW2. Elementalists and Necros are some of the tankiest professions out there. You’re looking at the composition all wrong. There’s damage, there’s bunker, and there’s sustain. Guardians are heavy armor, and they have the lowest base hp pool in the game. I’ve seen engineers (medium) and tempests (light) hold points against 3 attackers and barely sweat it.

I know you have limited time, but it’s important to have a basic knowledge of how professions work in pvp, if you’re planning on getting the wings. No insult intended, and I hope this clears things up. Cheers!

Legendary weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

After reading some of the comments legendary weapons would be core and legendary weapons were promised too be a feature is the new heart of the thrones expansion.

Is this meant to be a defense for why they have to add the crafting component and can’t just release the precursor/legendary in the way that they released the original set? There are plenty of easy ways around that. For example: Drops only in HoT zones. Requires Heart of Thorns in order to use. The mystic forge recipe for the legendary requires a gift of HoT which is, itself, crafted by buying items from the 4 zones and combining those items in the forge. The aforementioned Gift of HoT is account bound, as are the pieces you buy to make it.

Or we accept that it’s a compromise that the precursors can be found anywhere and used by anyone, but only people with HoT can get all the pieces to make the legendary.

After all, people who don’t own the expansion can go into guild halls.

Dye Suggestion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I do like this suggestion very much. The ways to achieve a more worn look in-game are pretty limited, as it stands. I’d love to see patterned/textured dyes, perhaps in the exotic tier. I thought it would be a good way to help increase cooking to 500, back when we had the horizontal CDI. I also think that participating in epic fights should occasionally unlock a “scar” cosmetic item, like the wanderer’s helm, but in more of a makeover kit “pattern” section, or some such. But that’s a pipe dream, I realize.

How do I report someone for refusing to play?

in PvP

Guhracie.3419

Yes. I really do believe what I said, and that you should not quit out of a game for anything other than life interfering. I’ve seen games turn around, depending on the map, in the last two minutes of the match. Teams overcoming massive deficits because one person stopped to point out strategies. It won’t always work, but it certainly feels better than having a tantrum, and that’s what you’re doing by ragequitting.

Could ANET PLEASE comment on this matter, now? If it’s not an actionable offense, I’d just as soon stop expending effort on this topic. It seems to me like the community is fairly divided on this, and nobody is changing anybody’s mind, at this point.

I just wanted to pipe up and say that I’m absolutely with Razor on this. I wish I had more than a single +1 to give to your posts, Razor. I think it’s appalling manners to afk a match. What's the point of 1 shared inventory slot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

I think it’s a fair price for a convenience item, and it’s something that has been requested repeatedly. Given that they sell infinite gathering tools at 1000 gems a pop, and an equivalent, non-infinite, item can be purchased by nearly every vendor one encounters in the wild, the 700 gems per inventory slot seems like a comparable value.

Giving one away demonstrates the convenience and will likely entice some purchases. I use the slot for my salvage-o-matic, and I am extremely pleased with it. With that being said, of course I wouldn’t mind if the price were lowered! I just don’t think it’s as unreasonable as you’re suggesting it is.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Guhracie.3419

I don’t remember ANET making that particular statement. If you have a source for it, I’d be interested to see it. I know that it did come up a lot in the horizontal progression discussion and, after outfits were introduced in the April, 2014 patch, I believe they shifted to outfits in the gemstore without ever explicitly stating that was what they were doing. I know that I, and a lot of others, came to the conclusion that the discussion had an impact on this decision, but the problem was that the rate at which new armor was introduced into the game became glacial.

EDIT: Apparently I am mistaken. They did say that armor sets would be released in-game. With that being said, if this brings more armor pieces into the game instead of outfits, I am all for it. I would like a more reasonable production ratio of new armors to outfits than we presently have.

What I really don’t understand is this: If it’s too difficult to work within the framework of the legendary journey, is it really a worse option to add the actual legendary/precursor weapons than it is to renege on features of an expansion you outright promised wouldn’t ship until it was ready?

If you can’t deliver the crafting bit- if that’s the bottleneck in this process- then why not at least deliver the bare bones of what was advertised?

Nero! I hear good things about [Ankh]!

So, back on topic… Here are some things that may make it easier for you to cope with the “Not Representing” text, OP:

Spies and/or are people paying attention to my guild chat? I do not invite people to a guild if I think they are spies or I don’t welcome their presence in my channel. I always talk in public channels as if the people I’m talking about can hear me. If someone doesn’t respond to me and it’s important, I send them a whisper with the important information.

People who don’t rep really don’t care about the guild. Well, removing the text that notes they’re not repping won’t instantly make anyone care about your guild. If your members aren’t invested and that makes you unhappy, why are they still in your guild? Why not simply thank them for the good times and wish them well and find people more suited to what you’re looking for?

I hope this helps. I, personally, enjoy being able to have more than one guild. I love the ability to chat in all of them, and I love having a guild tag by my name. I think, perhaps, you are taking representation a bit personally, especially if you don’t have any rules in place about it.

I think it’s extremely inconsistent with their previous design of having PvP as a completely level playing field, but I’m not sure you have a feasible solution, here.

I think that, ideally, there should be an option to queue up for non-elite spec builds. I don’t think taking away the option to play core vs. HoT would make anyone happy, but I do think an option would be nice. That being said, I’m not sure how that would play during the seasons, so perhaps it could be an unranked option at all times? That way, players with or without HoT can play in both categories.

Patch for the 19th

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

It’s part of a larger policy shift, which is simply “less talk, more action.” Fewer promises and less hype, more deliverables.

While everything has already been finalized for the release and been through testing, so there’s (almost) no chance of anything they’d put in previews a week in advance being pulled, I think the silence is just part of their larger change in approach. I’m not in love with it, because I like preview posts, but I’m cautiously optimistic about their renewed focus.

Seriously? Have you even been paying attention to the communication policy? It’s not a shift. It’s the same old dance with a different tune. Their policy has always been “We’re not going to talk about it until it’s done,” even when they were giving blogs. The fact that they’ve managed to rebrand this in such a way as to make it seem like telling people even less is a positive thing is actually impressive.

… and what about the legendary short bow? Only two classes can use short bow and their skill assets aren’t very viable in pve or pvp.

For whatever reason, they decided to work on the shortbow instead of one of the more popular weapons, which would have made sense to me. I don’t know why they did it. Maybe so many people absolutely hated the current legendary shortbow that they decided it just had to be given a second option. That’s my best guess.

Because Shortbow was likely the CURRENT one they had been working on when future legendaries got axed? As for the OP’s “complaint” we arent giving explicit details about changes because they seriously dislike when people attempt to use such information for personal gain at an unfair level.

How is it unfair if everyone has access to the same information?

I understand not hyping things a year in advance anymore, especially when you’ve proven you’re unable to deliver, but the decision to not mention something that’s a week or two out is really baffling. At that point, what you’re going to deliver should be finalized and you should just be polishing it up. I think your conclusion in this is flawed, Mr. O’Brien. You’ve decided not to make promises you can’t keep, which I approve of. But get us excited for things you know are going to come out. Unless you don’t think there’s anything to get excited about?

I don’t see a question here. You stated your opinion based on your opinion.

I had hoped to spark discussion about how peoples’ expectations of the specs versus the reality of them had panned out. The reason I said I was listing them based on my experiences is because I don’t want it to be about what’s meta, I want it to be about personal opinions.

Before heart of thorns released, there was a thread about rating elite specs as they were revealed based solely on what we knew about them at the time. My list was not accurate, and I suspect that’s the case for others, as well.

This is based solely on my own style of play and preferred game modes. This is not meant to be an objective ranking of worst to best.

9. I thought this would be Dragonhunter, but it’s actually Chronomancer. I play a standard mesmer build in pvp, in fact. (When I play mesmer in pvp, that is.)
8. I thought this would be the Tempest, but that is laughably far from the truth. For me, this is Herald. I just haven’t played the revenant as much as I thought I would.
7. Originally, I had Chronomancer here. Instead, I’m going to go with the underwhelming Berserker.
6. This is originally where I had speculated Berserker would be on my list, but it’s actually where I’m putting Scrapper. I had speculated that Scrapper would be the biggest game-changer for me, but I actually don’t play it that often.
5. Daredevil, before and after. My original theory was that thieves were getting rifle, and that was uninspiring to me. Staff is quite a bit more interesting, but it’s just not my main focus right now.
4. I had put Druid in this spot, and while it’s close, Dragonhunter has shot up to claim this spot.
3. I thought this would be taken by the Herald, but I’m finding Tempest to be quite to my liking. I’m not a fan of the base class, so much, but Tempest has really captured my interest.
2. I had high hopes for Reaper, despite not playing a necromancer primarily. This spot instead goes to the staff Druid. I liked ranger well enough, but Druid gives it a lot of flair.
1. Replacing Scrapper as my original choice for the top slot is Reaper. This spec exceeded my expectations.

Well, Vayne, you managed to respond to my last post without seeming to have read any of the words in it. I would respond, but I am baffled as to how to interpret your post, without any context about what questions and points you’re even answering. I don’t mean to be insulting, I just want to be clear that I would like to respond, but cannot.

All my best!

A drought does not mean a complete absence, but rather an insufficiency. I live in an area that has been in its worst drought in over a thousand years, but we still get rain.

I do not think that the existence of raids means that there is not a content drought.

Well, raids are pretty much the only thing MMOs(in general) are expected to come out with between expansions.

So by the general standards, either it’s not a content drought, or MMOs in general are in a constant state of content drought.

You want to argue with Mike O’Brien, the man who brought “content drought” into this conversation and also started this thread? Okay, yeah, that’s totally reasonable.

This MMO gave the expectation that things other than a couple of raid bosses were going to be released. This is the MMO that claims to do things differently. This MMO was built around the idea of regular content updates and a living, breathing, world. In short, you’re arguing that Mr. O’Brien is wrong about the state of his game and instead chose to literally suggest that players be angry about the content drought.

That response seems uncharacteristic, to say the least.

Even “boo” (the title people gave to their significant others before bae became a thing) still annoys me. I’m getting so old.

I much prefer the older term POOSSLQ myself. Don’t you? Kind of has a catchy ring to it. it even has that lovely poem, “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, if you would be my POOSSLQ.” ^^

These two examples, kek and kappa, I can handle, but the one that really drives me up the wall is “bae”.

“Bae” used to grate on me, until I learned it was an acronym for “Before Anyone Else.” I find it kind of sweet.

[Obligatory kek]

I thought it was just a shortening of “baby”

1) There was simply no reason for Level 500 Food and Jewelry. It was the presumption of the players that these crafts would go to 500.

“We’ll expand all crafting professions to allow them to reach a new milestone: 500 points!” (2013)

There’s also the Xunlai Ingot

From the same article:

“As always, the content above is subject to change as we test and iterate on these systems.”

Changing your mind on doing something isn’t quite the same as not finishing it. For example we were going to put a shed in our back yard, but we decided on a gazebo instead.

They probably did some tests, and figured the time, energy and expense to level it wouldn’t be worth it, so they changed their minds about doing it.

You’re making a completely different argument than that quote was meant to express. Context matters. If you read it, Behellagh said that the players made the presumption that the two crafts would be expanded to 500. The quote shows that it was not an assumption made by the players, but it was based on actual information given by ANET.

Also, anyone who is using the “And you wonder why ANET doesn’t communicate with players” argument: Yeah, it’s super unreasonable to expect that people mean what they say. Why is it that in this format, it’s suddenly inappropriate to use official communication as a fact of intention? This is on the same level as politicians who make stupid statements and then say, “That was not intended to be a factual statement.”

You say things like that, and then you turn around and act like anyone who questions the various development plans that are currently “on the table” are people who just want to complain about everything and if ANET says they’re doing something, then they’re doing it and that’s that.

How do you even live with that kind of cognitive dissonance going on? It boggles the mind.

Source for “next expansion”?

How can we set a fair price on the next expansion when they haven’t fully delivered this one and give every indication that they’re not going to? Let them finish this one, then we’ll talk about the price of the next.

This

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/state-of-the-game-update-q1-2016/

So as we transition into a future where we’ll be balancing development between the next expansion and regular updates, what will these updates look like for Guild Wars 2?

Not sure what you’re trying to say here. These updates look like money taken from your customers for an advertised product and not delivered? Because that’s what it is until they put the Devs back on precursor crafting, and deliver this “update.”

Like I said. FIRST they deliver what was paid for THEN we can talk price.

I was responding to the original post I quoted that asked for a source that a next expansion was in the works.

The bouncy pads at Teq require gliding mastery to use. This makes absolutely no sense, as it merely flings you from one place to another… like the ones in Lion’s Arch. Unless those are going to require gliding, too?

I don’t think there is any value in discussing what seems to be, just like arguments based on human fallibility. Making guesses isn’t compelling discussion. I don’t think it’s honest to justify ‘making a ruckus’ to get something you want; I would like to think we are dealing with a higher level maturity here.

You are the one guessing at what seems to be. Here are the facts:

Legendary weapons were promoted heavily as a part of the expansion.
Right before launch, it was revealed that the full set wasn’t ready, but that they’d be coming in small groups.
Mr. O’Brien announced that he has a team of people working on a second expansion.
Mr. O’Brien announced that the development of legendary weapons has been suspended indefinitely and the people working on them were reassigned.

Now you’re defending that decision based on things that you assume about this company and about other players. I am reacting based on this decision absolutely being a breach of trust and completely unethical. You are the one suggesting that we should ignore past experiences and just have faith in the infallible Mr. O’Brien, when this entire thread is based on an admission of failure to deliver.

I’m not going to bother responding to you again. You have a way of twisting common sense to suit your own purposes and ignoring facts, so it’s really not worth the energy to engage repeatedly, but I think it’s disgusting that someone who has been around for the various shenanigans, who saw the whole thing unfold, is still willing to staunchly defend this sort of thing.

The whole point of the expansion being content-light was to develop a framework to make future development much easier. Does that seem to be the case, here?

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

Just wanted to chime in here that I’m not afraid of raiding. It’s simply not something I’m interested in doing in Guild Wars. The UI limitations make it really unappealing, after the customization of WoW, and nothing I’ve heard seems to indicate that the encounters are particularly fun. It seems like a poor fit, to me.

Not liking something does not mean a person is afraid of that thing.

Yea, there’s no reason to remove jump pad capability when we’ve had it long before gliding.

I’m also hoping this is a bug. Taking away features from the core game and gating them behind HoT seems like a poor business decision.

I’m also not sure what do you mean with “sustainability” & “drought of content”.

Hi! I just want to clarify that a drought of content refers to the fact that we have not gotten any content updates other than HoT and festivals. Mr. O’Brien is trying to distract people from being angry about the lack of legendary weapons by suggesting they be angry about a different failure. It is a pretty curious tactic, in my opinion.

I’m clarifying because the rest of your response seems to be working under the assumption that it means the opposite of that. In short- you’re right. Content does not seem to be a priority.
