Unhappy Birthday, Traits System. I’ll raise a glass for your removal.

Yup. I logged in today in order to start selling items and sending my stuff to friends. It’s almost 5pm at ANET headquarters, so I can only assume that we’re not getting anymore information before the anniversary. I’m sure it doesn’t matter to them that I’m leaving, and I’m sure even fewer people in the game care, but it was a hard decision to make.

I didn’t believe it would get to six months, when this whole thing started. This kitten sandwich is indefensible and I hope… I really don’t know what I hope. Media traction? It’s just so sad.

Don't get the TP thing

Just started playing again, played GW1 for several years, the only time I made money of the TP was once I ground my way into several hundred thousand gold.
Like the saying goes, you need money to make money. I wouldn’t even do deals unless I stood to make 10-50 thousand, it was never daily for me, but more weekly or less. Simply looking for really good deals and taking advantage of them by reselling for fair value. It took so much time I got tired of it very quickly.
If your friend says he makes 200g a day he should be able to tell you exactly how he does it, if he cant, he was lying to start with.

Divulging your markets is a good way to NOT make 200g a day.

Traits Part 2

Guhracie.3419

Hard to believe Anet let this disaster remain in place for so long.

Exactly my thoughts. After the overwhelmingly negative feedback on the current trait system, it’s still in place and for almost an year.
It seems that the devs are very arrogant and do not care what the player base think. Very sad.

I think it boils down to money. See, anyone who had created a character before April 15, 2014 would only have to unlock the 5 new grandmaster traits. All of the other traits would be unlocked on that character. Any character created after the patch would have to do all 65 tasks or pay 43g and 360 skillpoints for what previously cost less than 3g. But, given that the game was nearly 2 years old, most veterans were done with creating a lot of new characters, so there wasn’t a massive outcry all at once. It didn’t impact most people playing the game.

With the announcement of the expansion and a new profession, though, this system will be front and center, and thus subject to more scrutiny. Therefore, they’ve announced that it will be changed, probably to convince people that they’re really listening this time, so please buy the expansion! Money.

They really really really need to change the trait system, and more specific the way you acquire them.
Why did they even change it from the original? Now the new players are basically forced to buy gold to get the new traits, because only a mad man would think that they would go on an “exciting journey” to hunt them all around the world.
So was this a gold sink, another way Anet to make few bucks out of the poor new players? Or did they try to make gw1-alike system? Either way they failed.
I recently decided to start leveling a warrior, and to unlock the speed buff trait at around level 30 I am forced to go to 50+ level area for this trait, really? Absolutely ridiculous.

Traits have had two threads of feedback (more than 100 pages, total) over the past year. They’re not part of the September New Player Experience; they’re from April 15, 2014.

We’ve been given platitudes and excuses over the course of the last 12 months. In August, we were informed that they were looking at short-term fixes that could be applied as a stopgap measure while they figured out how to give the system a complete overhaul. Then, in late January, we were informed that there would be a major overhaul to the trait system, and they were excited they could finally share the news with us. The original thread was locked, a new one was created (ostensibly to discuss this “new information”) and we’ve heard absolutely nothing about it since then.

Not only are the trait quests tied to level-inappropriate tasks, they’re also tied to buggy content, tedious and time-consuming content. Now, I don’t know much about how to computer, but it seems like a reasonable stopgap measure would’ve been to lower the prices to be more in line with what they were a year ago today. Or, you know, anything other than a wall of silence. Given how they choose to communicate, I’d say you can expect to hear more about traits anytime between late May and mid-July.

I guess the reason why we won’t get SAB this year is because they don’t want to interrupt the HoT “hype”. Of course they can’t say that openly.

I’d have a whole lot more respect for them if they did. But I’d also argue that having months of absolutely no content isn’t doing much to get people excited, either.

I would rather they release Profession-specific armor for each Profession (no cross-Profession wearing), than put all the work needed into making Cultural Armor wearable by each race.

Thus, no to cross-Cultural armor-wearing.

I’m in total agreement with this. Profession-specific armor would be amazing. I’d also love to see some exclusive Order-based armor, only wearable by members of that Order.

True enough, but they did state a time and that time is almost here. If it passes then i will probably be joining those who are angry at ANET.

Actually that time has technically passed.

She said that she wasn’t looking at Q2, which implied Q1 would see the change. Q1 has passed. When asked for clarification leading up to the end of Q1 there was only more silence.

Sorry for the lack of clarity- that bit was about the fact that there’s hope because there are changes for the personal story incoming. That date hasn’t passed, but I’m still not hopeful.

I’m scared of the way they will “fix” things, considering the way the “fixed” the personal story into a jacked up mess and “fixed” the previous trait system and leveling experience.

Well, they are fixing the personal story, again and returning it to its proper order, as well as giving characters new dialogue, Better Dialogue(Traehearne is getting an update!) And they are making the final instance soloable! so there may be hope yet.

Best Caster Profession for PvE?

Elementalist is largely considered to be the strongest light-armor PvE profession. However, I know some amazing mesmers who can solo content with cunning use of their many skills, and death shroud is pretty useful as well. I’d say find someone who can help you learn one of them, but Ele seems like it might be ideal for you. It’s most like engi, in terms of style, in my experience. Any advice for someone new to this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

The low level stuff you find is probably super valuable on the trading post. I would advise selling anything you loot as you level, and only salvage once you reach level 70 or so. Also, make sure you have gathering tools on hand, and gather everything you see.

Try the different weapons available to your profession. They change the first 5 skills you have access to, and can change the whole feel of the class.

Don’t buy traits. The developers have said that the trait system will be simplified at some point (probably) this year.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for help on map chat.

You can move while casting. You can move out of the way of attacks or dodge them.

There’s no node stealing. You and all the other people in the map will be able to mine that copper ore.

There’s no kill tagging. As long as you hit a thing and do enough damage, you’ll get credit.

Exploration, crafting, gathering, along with the staples of the MMO genre, will all get you experience.

You do not need ascended gear unless you’re planning on doing high level fractals.

Buy bags of T6 materials with your laurels.

Have fun!

On the subject of Aetherized weapon skins.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

I doubt that they’ll ever make it back, personally.

The scarcity and the way rotation works drives the market for such skins, and ultimately A-net benefits from this because it means people buy gems to buy BLC keys for a chance of a claim ticket.

EDIT: As far as I know, the only weapons that have made a comeback are Halloween skins, but these cost two tickets each and were holiday related. There have also been lotteries held for exclusive halloween skins, but I’m not sure if these were BL weapons or not.

Lovestruck weapons came back, too. And I believe the weapons from dragon bash, the jade set, were brought back at a slightly higher ticket price. The first wintersday weapons also returned. But I’m thinking that past non-holiday sets won’t ever come back for less than 3 tickets.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

The trait system is horrible. I hit 80 with my first non-grandfathered character, and I now have no desire to level any newly created character under this system. It’s not fun at all. I’m a person who would happily buy character slots and level characters over and over, but not with this system. I have no plans to buy HoT or level a revenant without a good fix to the trait system, the personal story, and the equally bad NPE.

like i said, i sincerely doubt they want the current system in place for hot, which will have players making new charachters.

The real problem is while a new trait system is almost assured, it seems unlikely that it will actually be a good system.
best case scenario, its relatively painless. But that doesnt mean its actually good, or improves the leveling/progression experience
the first system was fairly uninspired, but it was also fairly painless.

I think my major issue is that paired with the leveling nonsense, even a relatively painless trait system isn’t going to cut it for me. And if they don’t ease up on some of the level gates overall (especially for traits, but also for skills), it’s absolutely not worth making a new character, let alone continuing to play.

As a temporary solution, lowering the cost of unlocks would’ve been nice a year ago, but it would barely even make a dent in the overall problems with the system at this point.

4 days until an entire year has gone by. I hope someone at ANET is embarrassed.

Why is Double Daily Fractal still happening?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

The logic that defends these dailies is bizarre. ‘You can’t finish your daily without doing something you don’t like, but some of those things are easy so that makes it OK’.

Comfort zones, learn to get out of them. That’s the point of dailies. Dont like fractals? Bone up and run one. Find a group that isnt total kitten.

Besides, is it any more bizarre than the logic of “I dun leik dis dilly, gif us nu 1z” from some people? It’s simple: Anet’s not changed it since they introduced it, which should be a big friggin neon sign to you people that they intended it to be this way. Ergo, working as intended, stop asking for it to be changed because you simply dont like what shows up as a daily.

edit: also, it’s not “cant complete the daily” it’s “wont complete the daily.” MASSIVE difference between being unable to do a fractal and refusing to want to do a fractal.

For over two years, there were never two dailies of the exact same type. That’s why people assume this must be an oversight.

The point of playing a game is to have fun, not to have content shoved down your throat. If ANET wants people to leave their comfort zones, perhaps anet should examine why certain content is underperforming, before people choose to leave the comfort zone of GW2 for fun.

You don’t know what anybody else is working with. My system couldn’t handle fractals or WvW until I upgraded in February. And the idea that the game is making people choose between fun and rewards is just… this is pretty basic, straightforward stuff. But I guess you’d rather condescend to people.

^ Why do people keep assuming that they are not releasing it just to annoy people? Maybe there are actual reasons for it? Such as bugs and such that needs to be fixed but being put on the very end of the queue due to being very low priority.

they told us they didn’t want to realease SAb in the middle of living story , because it wasn’t in lore (instead of wvwvw season….. kitten logic). now we are not in the middle of ls , we are in a long break , this is the perfect time to put SAb , even only world 1-2. We all know if they not realease it before HoT we will have to wait a lot , because after hoT the ls will start again and they don’t want to add SAb in the middle of ls….

BTW your role of arenanet paladin is really boring , you can even try to create excuses more fun… like: Colin dog eaten SAb projects….

I agree that now would have been the perfect time for World 3. However, if the team that did SAB were busy wrapping up the expansion, they obviously couldn’t work on SAB. If they couldn’t work on SAB then no World 3. As to whether or not they could have just re-released Worlds 1 and 2, well you’d have to ask them and see if you get an answer.

It’s been asked for over a year now, with no response.

Why is Double Daily Fractal still happening?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

If they coded Double Daily harvesting, Or Vista Veiwer or Double anything we have now I would be okay with it, this is the only thing t hat ever doubles up, Its just poor design no matter how you cut it.

The dailies function on rotations of each slot by my understanding. They placed Daily Fractal in a different slot because it requires doing a single fractal (not a fractal set like the others) on any difficulty – that means that it is easier than a set of fractals at a specific difficulty.

Since they’re in different slots, that means that they may double up. Unintentional but happens.

Given that there’s usually at least 1 very easy daily in each game mode (PvE, PvP, WvW), the Daily Fractal landing on a Daily Fractal Set is not very important to remove.

It’s a matter of cost/time of fixing versus necessity of fixing, and the necessity is near zilch.

This is not a random rotation. The wiki has a schedule for the dailies, and double fractals happens something like every ten days. There’s no way it’s unintentional.

I know its a topic that keeps coming up, but there is no reason double daily fractal should be coded anymore. I don’t mind doing a fractal for my daily, but for Kitten sake we don’t need to be required to do both a fractal and level based fractal for a daily
(Especially a high level one) cut specific levels fractal and just leave the daily fractal please.

Because you have other dailies you can complete. You arent forced to do dailies, and you certainly arent forced to do fractals which you may or may not even be properly geared for.

It’s a non-issue for the majority, so it aint being changed. If you dont like it, just search custom arenas for open arenas advertising slackerpvp to finish your daily. Others do.

You get 10 achievement points for the completion daily, so why wouldn’t you want to do them ?

If you don’t do fractals and you get two on the same day then you can only complete 2 dailies as you won’t get the completion one either.

So yeah ANet, it really does need altering, the daily fractal should be grouped with the other fractal options so only one fractal may end up as a daily.

It’s been happening for four months now, so I can only assume it is working as intended, unfortunately. Well, not that it’s troubling me overmuch anymore.

Well 4 months or longer it still needs to be altered. Not sure it is working as intended, looks more like an oversight to me.

It cannot possibly be oversight, given how many times the issue has been raised since the system was implemented. I don’t think it’s good design, but I do think it’s intentional.

Charging for a service and then not providing it is what separates the SAB situation from the general PVE, WvW, and PvP situations. All of those portions of the game arre available to be played. SAB is not. None of those other portions of the game had an access fee beyond the basic game purchase. Anet did sell access to SAB for a fee above and beyond the cost of the game.

Charging for a service/product and then not providing it is not an ethical business practice. Stating that the product might be provided at some point in the future, maybe, does not change that.

Knowledge of SAB being limited available content with no set release schedule at the introduction of that coin was widely available. Players should have thought first before impulsively buying the coin if they truly have issues about not being able to use it at the moment. Anet is not at fault for players not doing the due diligence to at least think before they open their wallets.

They’ve said that they have plans to bring SAB back. That post on the French forums stated it would be after the expansion which makes sense. My advice to everyone is that’s upset about this is to never buy anything that is only temporarily available.

They have plans to perhaps bring it back.

There is a difference between at that moment and a period of years later. Buying a product that is labeled as providing infinite access if one desires such is not impulsive.

Spin it how you like, the service was charged for but is not being provided.

It was for infinite lives, not access.

Lives are the ability to play/access the content. The word, “continue,” refers to the ability to continue to play.

Some people have no interest in discussing things like reasonable expectations. It is my experience that those people are just not worth engaging with, after a certain point. I mean, I’d personally wonder how long people should be expected to be patient, but if someone seems to think that two years is a reasonable amount of time, it’s just not worth asking.

If there were actual technical problems, which were explained to an extent, and a time-line for correcting them in order to return the paid for service to function were provided, and refunds were offered to those desiring such, I would not have an issue with a protracted wait when dealing with something as complex as an MMO.

But taking away a service after it has been paid for, not providing a timeline for its return, indicating that its only a possibility that it will ever come back (Anet has redefine “absolutely,” and, “will,” as meaning, “perhaps,” or, “might,”), and not offering a refund even after paying customers have been without access to the service for which they have paid for a period of years is unethical.

I am in complete agreement with you, and I honestly hope that Anet is paying attention to your posts in particular. You have always been extremely even in your praise and criticism of the game, and you’ve often given me food for thought on issues I believed were extremely clear-cut. I take it as a major blow that this company has lost your respect, and I hope they feel that.

I still stand by the official statement, which is in short saying “not now”. the SAB is a small corner of content that people like, but its not the only one where people are suffering, PvE, WvW, and PvP haven’t been updated with any content for quite some time and more people have been begging for that for much much longer.

SAB is small compared to the main 3 modes that have received responses such as “we’re working on it” and they’ve sat by much much longer than all the SAB fans have. Asking for an immediate response and unlocking of content by Anet is stepping on the core game modes. we cant always get what we want. id love another WvW tournament right now, but they wont simply add that easily placed content into the game without having to work on it in some capacity.

it’s not unreasonable to ask people to simply wait. PvPer’s have waited since launch for a new map type, PvEer’s wanted “raids” and hardcore content, and WvWer’s wanted new maps that aren’t EoTM. If they have to wait SAB lover’s have to wait too. It’s only fair.

Translation: If I’m miserable, everyone shall be miserable! Including the people who bought a gem store item that has been useless for over a year and a half, now! Those people don’t deserve any kind of time frame, because reasons!

Your weapon choice changes your first 5 skills, so make sure you take the time to experiment with them. They can change the entire feel of a class. Mesmer isn’t really in a great place right now, but they’re fun. I’d advise trying most of the classes, but it can be time consuming. As others have said, Ele does sound like the right profession for you. Welcome to the game!

Whose decision was it to put those SAB mini’s in the black lion trading post? Couldn’t the person who usually asks anet questions for us go ask that person why they wanted to hurt our feelings?

Because money.

A company with high standards of ethical business practices would honor your request OP. Good luck, but do not hold your breath here.

No. Companies do not allow refunds whenever and for whatever reasons customers want. SAB is coming back in the future as has been stated by Anet. Currently the team that designed SAB are wrapped up in finishing the expansion. When they’ve finished, this will free them to work on other projects such as SAB.

Not that I actually expect anyone to address this, but anytime the developers don’t follow through with something they’ve said will or will not happen, people are reminded that developers are apparently not supposed to be accountable for what they say. Is this an exception to that mindset?

When have they not followed through with SAB? Have they ever release a schedule? I don’t remember them saying when we’d get world 3. Any dates or timeframes were entirely player created. It wasn’t until relevantly that we saw that post on the other forums that confirmed that the SAB team were currently working on the expansion and would not be able to work on SAB until after the expansion is released. No other dates were given.

I’m saying that anytime developers say anything about the game and people are unhappy when it doesn’t happen, the go-to response is that people are unreasonable for treating statements by developers as a “promise.” But now, suddenly, because they’ve said that SAB will be back, it means it absolutely will be back? You can’t have it both ways. You can’t say, “This is why developers don’t tell the players anything- because players expect them to mean what they say!” in one breath, and then in the next say, “But they said this content will be coming back, so calm down and trust them.”

Where has it been stated that what Anet says shouldn’t be a promise? I’ve seen this mentioned in a few other threads and never understood where it originated.

Here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here …… Shall I go on?

I’d love to have some go away, like the Jotun trader one.

They’ve also updated it to give credit for killing local wildlife.

Once again, we’re stuck without any centralized news source and receiving this news via another customer kind enough to translate for those of us who don’t speak the language in which it was posted. Does ANET have any kind of internal communication going on, or is everyone just kind of doing their own thing?

This whole situation is just revolting, and has been the final nail in the HoT coffin, for me.

There’s one heart, I think it’s in Fireheart Rise, where the only objective is to stealth through this camp until somebody spots you, and then you have to go back and get stealthed all over again. It is the most painful heart in the entire game, or was, for me.

I know that, but I’m not ready to give up on the game quite yet. I think that if they don’t release SAB in the next few weeks that will be my breaking point. To put the minis in the store for the 2 year anniversary and not intend to follow up on it is beyond trolling and proof that they couldn’t care less about the community.

I have been considering just putting it down. Maybe It’s time to try Rift again. I wish there was a good MMO out there that I liked. Maybe Wildstar has fixed some things and is worth checking out again?

You might want to check out the SAB thread. They’ve communicated that it’s not coming in the near future.

yeah I think im gonna have to give up on GW2 since Anet doesnt seem to give a kitten about removing the horrible “improvements” no one asked for in the first place.

“improvements” and a total lack of communications over the course of a WHOLE YEAR

traits unlock and town clothes were FINE as they were,

now traits are a horrible grind and town clothes are useless and cant be dyed.

toon specific guild repping is an absurd design , but it doest matter , guild chat is broken beyond recognition.

SAB aint coming back. Necromancer minions still useless. Low tier WvW is basically PvE since all you ever fight is a bunch of npcs.

ever since April 2014 :

friend : dude you still playing GW2 ?
me : yeah
friend : I’m thinking about getting the game, what character should I make first ?
me : listen to me very carefully, dont buy the game in its current state.

WoW what changed suddenly? What did I miss? Did someone say they would fix something again – like they did with hobosacks and it never came to pass?

What was it specifically because I just have to know?

I genuinely would like to know because it seems by some of the posts I missed last time around of reading through the most recent posts that something has changed? o.0

Nothing has changed. At ALL. Therein lies the problem. Seven months ago, we were assured that they were looking into quick fixes. Two months ago, we were assured that we’d be getting details on a complete overhaul. In less than ten days, it will be a full year since the implementation of this system and all we have are the same assurances we’ve had from the beginning. It is unacceptable. I guess I’ve just hit that wall, personally.

I’m not even logging in to get my daily rewards. Your two-month-old assurances that changes are incoming are stale. This two-month-old thread is appalling. I’m just not interested in empty promises anymore. And I’m really not interested in anymore “this is a big ship; it takes time to steer it” excuses. You’ve had ample time to do something, and you haven’t. So… just… yeah. Whatever.
