“I want to tell you how much I want to pay for the thing I want”. Welcome to the real world kid. Things don’t work that way.

however, this is a game, a really horribly managed game, prices like that would never happen in the real world because the real world would just give the finger and never buy something as expensive as that.

Actually, prices like that happen all the time in the real world. You do realize a diamond is just a rock, right?

I’m also optimistic about this sort of communication.

EDIT: There are three threads, including one for WvW, as a poster below pointed out to me.

So I was previewing the datamined paper bag skins to see how badly mangled it looked on my charr, when lo and behold: it looks like they actually took the time to make it fit properly- it doesn’t appear to clip with ears or horns. As a fan of these skins and a fan of Charr, I just want to say thanks! I will be watching for future tailoring to Charr models!

The Gem Store, Value, and Collections

The other thing that puts me off of gemstore purchases is the “lottery” aspect of things like dye packs, fishing through chests for scraps of tickets for skins, and 3 random miniatures. I want to buy what I want. As it stands now, maybe the whole store should just be 800 gem grab bags of random items.

I am in total agreement about single use skins for $10. And if I salvage part of that set by mistake? Looks like I’ve got to pony up for another full set.

What is up with all the minis?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Minis should not be earned through a monthly living story reward. Tonics are completely useless. You cannot do anything except for running around with a new appearance until you get into combat when you get transformed back and the tonic is wasted.

I could not care less about minis or the characters from the living story since I do not do the living story because they offer a mini I could not care less about. Worthless junk. Yeah, the coding is not hard to do to keep a mini in the game, but why a living world reward? Should I be satisfied with a mini as living story reward because it is simple to code? Must be the most stupidest thing I have ever heard.

And yeah, what variation do you refer to? That I can get a small bag of gold which is not gold at all and in fact 10 silver if not less? Or the unlimited tonics I destroy because they take up space in my backpack I need for other stuff and are completely useless? What variation in rewards are there? Weapon skins? Yeah, ok, fine…. they are obtained from loot. Not a living world reward chest where our precious minis are to not even be previewed.

The first thing I do when new content arrive, check out what rewards are available. And what I saw again was yet another mini… I hate you minis. I hope mewtwo eat your creators. Buhu…

Oh, so the devs should just cater to what you want and throw out all the things you don’t want. That sounds reasonable.

I listed many of the loot variations we’ve seen from living stories, and all that was just off the top of my head. Another poster was kind enough to link a bunch for you, so maybe that will sink in.

Just because you don’t like one thing doesn’t mean the devs should stop coding that thing for everyone. Do you understand how selfish that would be? The world doesn’t revolve around you.

There have been numerous back skins (Zephyrite update was rife with them, for example), weapon skins (SAB), shoulder skins (from scarlet’s invasion), an endless transform tonic, armor skin (molten, dragon bash)…. there are lots of rewards. Why complain about the ones you don’t like?

WoW player, coming to GW2.

Try different weapons! The weapons you use change your first five skills and can drastically alter how a class functions and feels.

You can sell on the Trading Post (equivalent of the AH) from anywhere in the game. You can send/receive mail from anywhere. You cannot mail yourself items. Your bank is shared by your account, and that is how you transfer items between characters.

You can move while casting (there are exceptions, but this is largely true)! Enjoy! You can also avoid being hit by an attack simply by moving out of its way.

Learn how your self-healing works. It’s actually meant to keep you alive in GW2.

The TP search and filters are terrible. You will long for the AH at times. However, being able to name your price (and see what prices other people are naming) is pretty awesome.

‘Kitten’ is the word the forum uses to filter out cursing. So if you see kitten appearing randomly, it’s not some secret game-speak.

You earn experience by doing events, renown hearts (which replace quest hubs), exploring, crafting, gathering, reviving, dungeons (eventually) and so on. Some of those things involve killing other things, but killing stuff as a grind is generally not going to be your best route to leveling.

When you get defeated by a monster, you still get to fight! If it’s nearly dead, you might be able to kill it and rally. Or if it wanders off, you can heal yourself up from the downed state and rally.

Waypoints are fantastic. Find all of them. Use them. The cost of using them increases as you level up.

Note: I do not do PvP or WvW, so this is just from a PvE perspective.

Welcome to GW2! I left WoW earlier this year (after playing since mid vanilla), looking for something more relaxed and friendly. Overall, I’m quite happy with GW2. Feel free to whisper me in game if you have any questions!

The vendor dialogue: “I have everything you need!” and then the wares pop up and all she sells is a rainbow cupcake. It’s like she knows me.

The sanctum sprint, the keg brawl, and occasionally some of the other mini-games.

Unidentified dyes. Maybe it’s going to be my 7543rd lime breeze…. or maybe it’ll be celestial.

The fact that I can get awesome, meaningful drops on any of my characters, regardless of their level.

The robo cats in fractals and their sound effects.

The way the whole game changes and looks brighter when one person stops to show me how to get to a vista, or half the map comes running when I ask for help with a skillpoint.

The super stunning artwork.

Leveling a new class. And leveling an old class with new weapons and utilities.

Guhracie.3419

Hi Qaelyn! Welcome to GW2, and welcome to Tarnished Coast!

Weapons in GW2 are fantastic, because they can change the entire feel of your chosen class. The first 5 skills on your toolbar relate to the weapon you’re using. Greatsword is awesome on a mesmer because it becomes, essentially, a really big wand with some well-loved attacks on it. I don’t know if it still is (because I know sword is really popular right now) but when I started, Greatsword was the be-all, end-all mesmer weapon.

Mesmer isn’t the easiest class to start with, but at least it’s not elementalist. :P It was my second class to 80 and I love mine.

Earning money: You can gather from any node, regardless of your crafting skills. Get gathering tools, go forth, and harvest like you’ve never harvested before. Nodes are individual, so you’re not stealing (or being stolen) from anyone else. Sell your items on the trading post, but make sure you look at “projected profit” and compare it against the vendor value. If it’s not worth more, then you should use a salvage kit to break down the items into materials. Your crafting materials will build up more quickly than you know, and some of those sell quite nicely.

You should be picking up unidentified dyes now and then. Those sell on the TP for around 20s. If you’re like me and can’t resist checking on the color, you may get lucky and get an exceedingly rare color. Some of those sell for upwards of 20 gold.

Money will build up if you do events and complete hearts. Killing champions is a good way to get some good loot/money. Have a blast! Feel free to whisper me in game.

Guhracie.3419

You won’t necessarily get loot at the same time she does. You know how when you fight solo, you don’t get loot from everything you kill? That’s how it works, here. Sometimes what you kill will have loot for you, and sometimes it won’t.

You get different experience numbers and loot frequency based on your level, how often you have participated in or killed something, and how recently the enemy spawned. All kills are not created equal.

There is a minimum amount of damage you need to do to an enemy in order to gain credit for loot and/or experience when it dies. You do not get credit for your party members killing things unless you have done the minimum amount, and vice versa.

In this way, it can seem like tagging might be happening, but it is not. Otherwise, explain to me how I frequently get loot from Champion events where 10-50 other people have already “tagged” the monster and I come in late to the fight. By your definition of tagging, that simply could not happen.

MMOs use a variety of engines and builds. Just because they’ve all chosen a similar model for how tagging npcs works doesn’t mean this one can’t make a change. Since GW2 clearly has.

I hope this helps clear up your confusion.

If you’re not utilizing steal during combat, you’re not playing the class mechanics, and I daresay you’re missing out on a key element of the class. Also, how is scorpion wire a pre-combat tool? It’s an interrupt and a gap-closer.

Personally, I love when people advertise for “experienced only” because I know (no matter how experienced I am) that it’s not the kind of group I want to run with. Good job for representing the stereotype so well.

So ‘experienced only’ groups are made up of players you’d never want to run with? Perhaps they actually consist of good players that help during others times, but for that particular run, they don’t have the time to explain mechanics and want to speed run stuff.

Is it fair that I label casual players to be inefficient, unknowledgeable and undisciplined?

Probably not, but hey I admit I do it anyway.

Perhaps you missed the part where I said “it’s not the kind of group I want to run with” and not “it’s a group made up of horrible people who kick puppies and I block those people immediately.”

In my experience, groups looking for “experienced only” (particularly within the first three days that content is available) do not provide me with the type of group experience I find enjoyable. So I know immediately that it’s not a group I will join.

Nice to know your stance on this game’s target audience, by the way. You must love feeling superior 24/7. Gold star for you, I guess?

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

1. More exclusives in the Hair/Makeover kits. New hairstyles, new accessory/skin/pattern/etc colors, new faces, new customization options overall. Maybe kits for specific changes that would be too silly to waste a whole kit on, but would still generate revenue from people not inclined to buy a full kit just to change the color of their character’s eyes, etc.

2. A one-use item that would remove the soulbinding on an item and make it return to its original state or even just make it account bound.

3. Something similar that would work to remove a dye from one character and allow it to be learned by another one on the same account. (I am actually opposed to dyes being account-bound, though.)

4. Some way to transmute town-clothes into PVE wear. My engineer needs to be able to menace all quaggans by wearing the skin of a pink quaggan with a bow on her head as she battles.

5. I agree with tons of other suggestions, but particularly the ability to make larger customized arena fights; perhaps up to 30v30. It’s clearly a thing people want.

In addition to not getting anything from the pickups occasionally (usually the offensive pickups, but sometimes the defensive bags as well), I am still not getting the chest at the end of the race about half the time. These are not late starts, and I am getting no message indicating that I won’t be rewarded. The chest sparkles, I go interact with it, and then it acts as if I’ve received my rewards.

I have confirmed the chest issue with other racers.

Elementalist and non weapon swapping

Also, the engineer can only use three weapons. Pistol, rifle and shield. Nothing in there is exactly compelling for a weapon swap mechanic. I’d prefer it if kits were F-skills with weapon swap CDs, though.

EDIT: On topic: I think it’s ridiculous to suggest weapon swapping for elementalists. Sure, you won’t get a ton of class variety (between different elementalists, I mean) but you consistently have access to four different weapon skills just with the attunements.

I swapped from WoW to GW2 earlier this year. The open world feeling of WoW comes from the lack of instanced zones. I find the cities in GW2 to be way more “finished” and more efficient within their space.

I’d like to point out (politely) that WoW was able to work up to having a massive open world over the course of nearly a decade and four expansions, while basically owning the market. They’ve had a great deal of funding in order to produce their content, and a great deal of time to add on to their initial world. It’s not something that can happen overnight, and it’s certainly not warranted in the first year- we’ve seen plenty of MMOs crash and burn in the early days.

The race you pick matters in WoW because there are race/class combinations, and because of the horde/alliance conflict. It’s a difficult thing to balance, in practice. It’s also not necessarily fun.

All games will have flaws, and all games will appeal to different people. WoW, despite the people who vocally hate it because it’s a bandwagon thing to do (there are people with legitimate experience/complaints from the game, I’m not lumping everyone on the bandwagon), has been an amazing game in many respects, and there are quite a few things they absolutely get right. I don’t disagree with your suggestion about lore and depth, but it does seem rather non-specific. Aside from, “Hey, look at WoW and how they pulled off their success” which is something game companies always do before they even begin working on their own MMO. It’s just sensible.

I frequently find map chat useful and/or hilarious. My home server is Tarnished Coast (NA), and there are a lot of good people there. But not everyone is like that, and I am frequently in overflow maps as well. By “hate speech” I mean terms like racial slurs, offensive language for personal sexual identity or misogynistic terms. To me, this sort of thing has become so much the norm in online gaming that people don’t often think twice about using these words. It would be nice if ANET would make it a high priority to discourage such things.

I feel like hate speech should have its own category on the drop-down menu. It’s a very specific issue, and I keep seeing it happen more and more frequently. This is, frankly, unacceptable. I’ve been placing it under “verbal harassment” but harassment implies repetition. Even once is too much, for hate speech.
