I don’t think the issue is that anyone feels like you’re “stealing” or “usurping” ideas, I think it’s more that- agree or disagree, you’re the one getting the direct interaction. EDIT: Which is in no way your doing, I feel compelled to add!

Believe me, I’m aware. While its nice to get direct feedback, I’m a bit edgy that I’m inadvertently hogging the stage.

One strategy that may help my fellow posters is to open with small quotes from the Dev posting you are responding to – structure your thoughts so they are conversational rather than stand-alone essays, and arrange them so that Devs reading it see your comments as a fluid extension of what they just said – it lends context and makes it easier for them to respond as if it were a steady and ongoing discussion.

And be concise. I’ve noticed Chris never trims a post he’s responding to, which means the shorter yours is, the more space he has for answering .

I think it also ties into the feeling of being on a similar wavelength. We all like to communicate with people who are receptive to how we communicate; that’s pretty much just human nature. And once that rapport has been established, it’s comfortable to go back. I don’t believe it’s intentional, and I don’t think it’s anything to feel bad about (especially not you, Nike), but I do think it’s something Chris should be mindful of now that it’s been mentioned.

Are people really trying to say that it’s easier to level in WoW than it is in GW2?

I love how leveling works in GW2. I don’t think GW2 is terribly alt friendly, but that’s a totally different topic. I think the experience of leveling is the best I’ve found, for how I play.

Rune of Resistance

Guhracie.3419

…Actually if Rune of the Guardian didn’t work for thieves, then it would be 7 out of 8 (since someone pointed out a suitably round-about way an Necromancer can block once in a blue moon).

But thieves can block… underwater. Nine-tailed strike .

But still, the real question is if you’re concerned about Engineer competitiveness and involvement, why are you wasting 1s & 0s over a bit of FLUFF like the final set bonus on an obscure rune you may never even see, when there are so many other issues to take up torches and pitchforks over?

I was trying to figure out from the wording of Smoke Screen if it would proc rune of the Guardian, but my guess is no.

Honestly, the reason this is something I am choosing to take issue with is because there’s still time to change it. I feel really defeatist when it comes to having engineer issues addressed once they’re implemented, just based on history.

I think the problem here is that in general Engineers are in a crappy place and this feels like kicking them when their down. I get that. Thing is tweaking this rune doesn’t change that in any meaningful way – its putting needless burdens of expectation on part of the system that doesn’t benefit from being hemmed in that way when the problem lies elsewhere and needs to be addressed/resolved elsewhere.

I’m all for giving Engineers better tools as to be competitive and desirable. But to me that’s better addressed by making Signets a type of utility available to all classes, not trying to cram sort of kludge in to a single situation. The general fix will resolve the specific problem and all future cases in a single stroke.

YES! This! Thank you for this conversation. I’m sorry for getting snippy with you earlier.

Rune of Resistance

in Fractured

Guhracie.3419

And what exactly the rune of the guardian has to do with this matter?

Its another Rune that works for 7 out of 8 classes? Its one of many examples that Runes ARE NOT required to work for all classes or even most of them?

Look, we clearly got off on the wrong foot. Can we talk like two reasonable people for a moment? I’m being sincere, here. This is not some sort of underhanded attack or trap or whatever else it might seem like.

Nobody here is upset that some runes don’t work for all classes. It’s well established that there are rune sets that are specifically tuned for a single class. Particularly the runes named after the professions; they’re meant for that profession.

The issue is that access to aegis is universally useful, particularly in high end fractals, which award this new set of runes as a high end reward… yet it does not reward engineers. You honestly don’t see how that’s a bitter pill to swallow, particularly taking into account how broken the profession is overall?

Is it really equivalent to compare denying necromancers access to a 1 second burning proc, when they already have access to burning, with engineers being the only profession without access to aegis?

I am honestly asking you to stop and think about this from another perspective for just a moment and ask yourself if you really still believe there’s no cause for discontent. Please, just consider it.

Clearly my comment has caused some confusion and offense, which was not my intent. For that, I offer my apology and a more literal version of what I mean to say:

Every profession has aspects that make it different than the others. Sometimes those aspects can exclude a player from taking full advantage of certain bonuses from equipment. But that is not the reason those choices exist. The implementation of a signet-related rune is not an oversight, nor is it meant as a deliberate exclusion of the engineer profession. It is meant to be a new, interesting choice for players that want to use to signets and want to play professions that have them.

I genuinely thank you for your apology. But I’ve highlighted a bit that I’d really like you to think about, from your response, keeping the following in mind:
Weapon damage
Weapon cosmetics
Back piece cosmetics/overall aesthetics
Access to an end-game rune granting on-demand Aegis

These are issues that do not effect any other profession in the game. Were all of these things meant to be new, interesting choices for players that want to play professions that have access to them? Can you honestly look at the rune of resistance’s implementation as not punitive to players who choose to play engineers?

I would very much like to hear your opinion on this matter. Again, thank you for clarifying your original response.

Speaking of Halloween skins, whatever happened to the new Halloween skins? Are they still being sold for 1 BL Ticket? (Can’t get into the game to check right now.) I never saw any announcement saying they were going away soon. The reminder that Dreamthistle weapons were going up in price reminded me.

Halloween’s are sold for 5.

They do not announce when they are changing the price. It forces you to hurry and buy at the beginning.

Evon keeps us well informed, he said on Nov. 5th:

Halloween Items Leaving Soon!
You’ve got just one week left to store up enough Halloween goodies to last the year! Soon, Trick-or-Treat Bags will be gone from Black Lion Chests, our Halloween costumes, finishers, and miniatures will disappear, and the Halloween weapon skins offered by Black Lion Weapons Specialists will go up in price!

Ah, I did miss that. So the old Halloween skins like the Greatsaw etc. didn’t return then? (Must not have. I’m sure there’d be an outpouring of rage from speculators if they’d returned.)

The greatsaw, the dagger, the rifle and the scythe were all missing from this year’s holiday. (I may be missing others- I wasn’t present for the first event.) I wanted to dual wield disembodied hands holding daggers, too.

I guess “grow a skin” applies to player too.

If you think that was blatantly fallacious, then your understanding of parallels may need some work.

In case the message was too opaque it was “Runes OBVIOUSLY aren’t intended to work with all classes. Runes of Resistance will not be reworked to work with engineers any more than Runes of the Engineer will be reworked to be useful to non-engineers.”

I’m sure he’s extremely contrite that he treated the readers as smart enough to follow a fairly obvious parallel. But frankly if the discussion has to be dumbed down that far, I can see why they rarely respond at all.

Apparently you don’t understand fallacies. The issue is not that there are runes that don’t work for every class. The issue is that Engineers are the ONLY class excluded from using Rune of Resistance. Why is this so hard to understand?

It is not parallel at all. Each class has a rune that caters to their mechanics pretty exclusively. That is parallel. Rune of Resistance is viable for all of them except for engineers. Now, if you can think of any other rune that functions to exclude one class, I’m pretty sure that would be parallel. Perhaps you need to swallow some of your condescension and check your own definitions before you sneer at me.

They’re both true. Steal resides in the F1 spot, and when it is used, it takes up only the F1 key. A thief’s skill bar is intact, and steal is unavailable until the skill is used.

I always thought that F1 skill was considered a bundle, so the only way to actually gain a benefit from that trait is by branching every foe in your path? Well guess I could get an ele to help me with a conjure >.>

Inc thief meta: Conjured improvisation!! Gonna wreck some havoc in PvP >:|

It’s entirely possible that I’m wrong, but I’ve always understood bundles to be things that replace the skill bar, so that trait has always struck me as stupid.

No but you should give one to the thief to properly use “Improvisation”.

See this is something I don’t get about thieves:

On the wiki the “Environmental Weapon” page says:
Thieves have the steal attack, which provides them with a skill to use depending on the target.

Meanwhile the “Improvisation” trait says:
Note: Steal is not a bundle; the damage bonus from this trait affects found items that replace the weapon skill bar such as Conjures and Banners.

… Which one is true then?

They’re both true. Steal resides in the F1 spot, and when it is used, it takes up only the F1 key. A thief’s skill bar is intact, and steal is unavailable until the skill is used.

I’ll repeat myself, but how many runes are there that exclude a single class out?
Sure, there are some who cater especially to some classes – like the runes named after the classes, for example – but these aren’t one of those. They aren’t called Rune of No Engineer Here, after all, and neither they have a similar name.
These runes should be a reward of the new fractals – and engineers are getting left out. Without reason – cause those runes could have worked with either gadgets or elixirs, thus giving an option for every class.

Ok, I take your point, it’s not so much that there’s a rune set that engineers (or any profession) can’t use that there’s a rune set that only engineers can’t use and it’s being offered as a reward of high level/end game content. Yes, that does suck and they should do something to fix that before it’s released.

Thank you, sincerely. This is exactly what I was trying to express. And thank you, Pifil, for acknowledging the disparity.

They are adding new mechanics post 30 so it is actually content nobody has done, not just a reset for leaderboards. Is there a reason you should get credit for something that you haven’t completed because you did something that used to exist? I am happy about the changes even though I am losing 18 levels on my main a level 28 alt and a level 20 one. Fractal chest instead of rng and not having to waste a fine transmute along with new content and gold rewards; slap me some more if that is what you are calling it.

They should get credit for what they DID accomplish, though. The problem here isn’t entitlement, it’s that all that work and any sense of achievement/prestige tied to that is being erased entirely. ANET is basically saying that what they did matters not at all. I’m glad you’re happy with the change, but is it so hard to see why this is upsetting to people?

Things I appreciated about this process:

1. Drawing clear boundaries, even in the face of criticism. This may seem odd, but despite the fact that it went against the vocal majority in the thread, I felt it was important when you made it clear that the two-week cycle is not up for debate at this time. Likewise with the discussion on Scarlet (as it was never feasible/likely you would abandon her anyway).

2. Seeing developers get enthused about engaging with us. It has to be hard to face many combative opinions and seek out reasons to be inspired anyway. It was fun to see developers really sounding excited about what they were hearing.

3. I felt like this project really effected change in other aspects- like the preview of the December 10th patch notes, complete with interaction and feedback from the players taken into account.

What didn’t work:

1. Keeping up with the thread became really cumbersome. I fell so far behind that I felt like I couldn’t really contribute. However, I see no way to easily fix this.

2. There was a LOT of off-topic discussion. I think this is obvious and a rather easy fix.

3. I’d like to see a lot more developer interaction in the future, particularly to keep things on topic, and to translate how this collaboration will actually impact the game.

Additionally, I’d like to see you address the top 3 topics before moving on to a new call for topics. Otherwise, one majority set of players is constantly having their votes counted and re-counted, giving them more weight. I don’t think we need to discuss every topic that’s been mentioned, but I feel like we should at least give weight to the top 3 topics. (I’m not sure I’m explaining the voting thing right- if it isn’t clear, I’ll come back to it this afternoon/evening.)

Overall, a positive experience.

In an MMO, when an aspect of the game is borked (and the fractals were borked) you have to eventually tear it down, or revamp it. And by doing that you are necessarily going to make the ones upset that liked and profited from the way things were before. But that can’t stop the developers, because they have to look after the game on a greater scale. They have to do things “for the greater good” and if people weren’t so stubborn and narrow-minded they would see that sacrifices have to be made to make the game better for everyone and for it to survive the years to come.

Sure, as long as you also remove weapon swap for them, too. And pare down their weapon options to 3 items. Seems fair.

This is a seriously galling post to read. I came to point out that thieves have a trait that buffs bundle damage (which is frankly ridiculous, but not the point), but I see someone else already has. Instead, I’ll leave you with this food for thought:

Each class has a rather class-specific rune set, right? So why single out the engineers here like their rune is somehow special, and therefore a total counter-balance to the fact that rune of resistance is excluding just engineers from the top tier bonus? Am I mistaken, here?

There is a fashion achievement category. Which benefits if you buy gems, then sell them to buy armor. Cultural armor is so expensive.

Edit: I buy most with real dollars. But yeah, the in-game gold cost is really expensive.

Selling gems for gold is one of the worst ways to make money in the game. Just out of curiosity, I looked it up this morning and 1300 gems (approximately $16 USD) is worth about 75g. If that sounds like a lot of gold for the money, you’re crazy.

I think the system would benefit from this overall.

I was hoping this was a link to the end credits from the Buffy episode “Once More, With Feeling” since that’s stuck in my head every time I see this topic.

I wonder how come it’s usually that one website, which bots are spamming. Can’t anet do something about it?

Anet can’t police the internet. If it’s not illegal in the country where the website is based, their hands are tied.

Yeah, turning off game messages is not an option for me, since I want to be able to see if people on my flist are coming online. (I wish this notification had its own option, to be honest.)

Bone Pick Tools axe and scythe coming?

Well, the ones from flame and frost were loosely tied together by theme, rather than being precise duplicates, so I would not assume there will be a bone harvesting sickle.

The Halloween holiday was one big disappointment for me, particularly in the area of festive skins. However, I do see ANET moving in the right direction with this last update, so hopefully Wintersday will be grand.

The harvesting sickle that matches the bone pick is the jack in the box. There hasn’t been a “creepy” themed logging axe yet, though.

I don’t necessarily believe the living world teams are comprised largely of coders in the first place though. At least that seems to be implied by some of what’s said. Not everyone who designs games codes.

I have already addresed that issue Vayne. I am not saying an LS team should work on it. I am saying that a team should work for a whole cycle to release a patch that only addresses bugs within the game. At this point you are arguing things that are not a part of my thread. If you want to address the issue in the context of my OP then fine. If not please stay on topic. I don’t want it derailed. The same goes for everyone else please. I want to know if the community would like a patch dedicated solely to squashing bugs. Please stay on topic and keep it constructive! Thanks.

You can go back throughout my post history. I am always effusive in my praise and constructive in my criticism and never rude. I am not complaining for the sake of whining. I am trying to add to the discussion of making the game better by bringing up what I think are salient points and ideas that could help to achieve those ends.

I think you’re missing my point. These bugs are being worked on by people. Bugs are fixed with every single patch. Every time a bug is fixed, it gets added into the Living World patches. If the same number of people are working on bugs, then the same number of bugs will be fixed.

In other words, if you’re not diverting Living World teams to working on bugs, the bugs won’t be fixed any faster, even if you do only put out a bug fix.

What you’d have to do is take the teams that are working on certain bugs off those bugs and put them on the specific bugs you’re talking about.

For example, we just had a patch today which, according to the notes, gives performance improvement in large scale battles. I haven’t tried it myself, but if it does what they say, is that more important than a single dynamic events in Bloodtide Coast?

By design, it would be a team equipped to handle such issues and would work for four months to just squash bugs that have plagued the game since day 1. That would be the update we would get for that 2 week time frame. If it is just one bug like you are talking about, then no it isn’t worth it, but I am talking about them tackling myriad issues in one patch.

It’s really simple: You either think a team should be dedicated to this or not.

I think a team is dedicated to this. I don’t understand why you think these teams can’t (or even don’t) work concurrently. Are you suggesting that the living story teams just take a vacation in the meantime?

Im not sure what you mean by polish..you want the game to be in polish language, as an option?

Regarding what others have said: They focus so so so much on living story, and not enough on anything else.

When was the last time dungeons got a good revamp? Not just one..but multiple?
When was the last time there was reason to just go out into tyria and explore, not related to any achievements?
When was the last time you DIDNT see the champ train?>
When was the last time Orr was significant?

There is another english word “polish” that has nothing to do with Poland. To polish means to make smooth and glossy by using friction, usually in terms of metal or gemstones (though it has MANY other uses). The implication here is that the game has many features that are quite close to being well-done; all they need is a bit of polishing. Smooth out the rough edges. Hope this helps.

HAHAHAHA omg…I feel like such an idiot. Yes yes, polish as in ‘refine’. I am american, I speak english, and I am a fail hahahahahahaha. I thought the OP wanted GW2 to be translated in Polish hahaha omg. Wow…stupid me.

Nevermind folks! nothing to see here!

Don’t feel too bad! That happens to me on occasion as well. I’ll look at a word with two meanings and just be unable to land on the secondary meaning. If it helps, I had a good chuckle over the mixup, and a sympathy wince.

Great Improvements you have done today:

1- Account bound gathering tools.
2- Non RNG weapon skins

I hope that all GW2 players reward this change of heart by buying your items.<3

Yep! I will be, for sure!
