[[With one thread starter writing herself out, and the other abandoning it, I’d say it’s done.]]
When I got my first motorbike (a Yamaha RXS100-N), I was keen not to be stuck with a forum name tag based on a little Ronnie Ring-Ding bike. I was just known as my real name on IRC biker chat channels. I bought my first Moto Guzzi, a V50, so became GuzziV50.
Later on, I survived a MASSIVE motorbike crash (nearly 100mph, 65ft into a field) unscathed so was invariably known as GoldenB****x, but one friend suggested GuzziHero, and that stuck.
Most people do not know my real name, which is good because I despise it.
—-
It’s one of my usual online handles. “Bluestocking” is an archaic term for a woman who was considered over-educated, unfemininely intellectual, and basically unmarriageable. I rather like it (although my spouse disagrees with the last bit.)
Interesting. There is a lyric in a Nick Cave song that goes “She’ll be wearing those blue stockings, I’ll bet”. It helps to explain that lyric. Cheers!

[[I think the bombs were triggered by Hamfast and the Scarlett sub plot. Im just trying to deal with them, since noone else is
]]
I admit that I was astonished that I was offered assistance as I freely acknowledged that it was my error. The only difference I can think of is that while my item was an lvl 2x one, because of the Phalanx skin, the title was yellow… therefore I expected that it would have a warning message.
I was asked for the exact time of salvaging, the map area, character name, server, exact name and level of the item and so forth. I guess this was for verification, and they did state all along that they were unsure that anything could be done.
I would post the names of the GMs that helped me, but I am concerned that they would be bombarded with requests!
I’ve had this problem for some time but particularly since the Tower of Nightmares patch. I am in a fight, ooh 1/3rd health left, hit 6 and the heal goes 1/2 way then cancels. I didnt dodge, I didnt move back, it just cancels!
Am I alone here?
Oh, also all my contacts and guilds rosters are totally blank. Since I am in TTS, which is, I believe full, I don’t think for a moment that everyone left except me… <.< >.> >.<
:o Really? Where? I have 3 world completions and I cannot recall seeing it! :o
Although, there was a helicopter, in beta I think? I wasn’t actually there.
[[ That appears to be new information, because when I played a year back the wiki clearly stated they’re not affected by cold
I’ll go edit it to I just like the cold XD]]
[[Well, everyone is different. I captured the Grove quote:]]
[[Actually, Sylvari do feel the cold. I recall the Sylvari NPC in The Grove saying about disliking Hoelbrak – it sapped her energy to be so cold, I think she says]]
I awoke to the sound of howling. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I saw Sprouts Honor sitting by me. Not unusual. Then I realised how cold I was. I hate stone, it saps your body heat.
The next realisation snapped me back to reality like a bucket of water as cold as the stone I was laid upon. I was still here! By the fountain, full of toxic bombs!
Think… think… how do I warn people of the danger? How about a slow release of some of the gas, the Lionguard would have to believe me then! If I was right, I’d save lives. If I was wrong, I’d be fined, or jailed, for desecrating the most famous landmark in Lion’s Arch.
I quickly planned my quickest escape route in the event that my suspicions were wrong. Readied… aimed… fired!
For a moment, nothing happened. I looked around to see everyone looking at me. A moment of panic then… suddenly, a hissing sound as a bilious green gas began to emanate from the squirting fish.
“GAS! Get out of here!”. People panicked and fled. I dashed to the nearest Lionguard to point direct his attention to the danger. As soon as he saw it, he called for a messenger to alert the Captain’s Council.
Mission accomplished! Maybe there’s some reward in this after all…
Sorry to hear of your lost items, Stealthasaur, and I apologise if my thread of gratitude has caused a problem.
In my case, the item was easily ‘refunded’ although the fault was entirely my own. The only thing Anet could do was refund me the gems and, I guess, just trust that I would not use the skin parts which I was not really entitled to. I felt that such trust was worthy of a shout-out.
The same has happened to me with unrefundable items. I left my Mad King’s Tome on a trial character which I deleted. In that case, the item was non-refundable and is gone forever. Each individual situation is, indeed, individual.
So I idiotically salvaged a set of gloves on which I had placed the Phalanx skin I bought from the Gem Store.
After a few days, I have been refunded the gems with which to re-purchase the Phalanx skin. I applied the gloves skin to another piece of armour, and have deleted the rest of the set, so that I have not gained from my own error.
Many thanks to the support staff that have helped me restore my full Phalanx armour set!
I don’t need them anymore, but will help you if you need em!
I’ll add you now, friend.
[[I am surprised that English is not your first language! You are doing exceptionally well
]]
Well, I tried.
First I tried to warn a Lionguard near the fountain about the suspicious objects. He seemed… less than convinced.
Then, I tried to go to the Council themselves, to warn them of the danger. They were even less convinced. More so thanks to their security guard who made it quite clear that I was not welcome!
So now I have taken it upon myself to stand here and try to warn everyone of the danger. Most just look at me strangely, like I’m that Norn from Hoelbrak who keeps yelling about creatures of metal and steam. What a nut she is!
Now my main concern is that I don’t know when these things are set to go off. I’m worried that I’m going to get killed here. Maybe I should leave these idiots to their fate…
[ty for the cameo by Faryen Obstart!]
I got it now, but if anyone else wants help, let me know. I’ll keep an eye on this thread.
I need a group to get some of these offshoots for meta. I can almost solo the things keeping one engineer alive, but the engineers keep breaking off to attack mobs.
If anyone is hitting em, on an NA server, I’ll come over and join.
Ta.
Well, those negotiations could have gone better. After all, they came to me, knowing that Solissa Starwood had a reputation for finding any prey… eventually. My time was worth 15 gold at least, I was determined of that!
I should have known that a council of pirates would rip me off. Not that I had much choice in helping find those barrels, but I thought I deserved more than the paltry 50s plus expenses that they offered. So I tried a little… hostile negotiation.
It didn’t work. All I ended up with was wood rash on my… well, never mind.
I decided to wander around for a short while before heading home. A local pointed me to a good spot from which to watch the tide roll in. Suddenly, Sprouts Honor started howling. There was a sudden breeze and a splash deep below me. Strange, I never saw a thing.
As I headed back to town to grab some provisions on the way out, Sprout went off -again-! He wouldn’t stop howling at those fish around the Lion’s Arch fountain. No matter what I did, he wouldn’t move away. Tentatively, I climbed up one, to the chagrin of some tourists nearby, and inside… there were some small barrels, with a mechanical device attached.
Now I had to think. Given my earlier… experience… with the Captain’s Council, should I report this in at all?
[[I think so. Solissa can’t find any more]]
Solissa the Ranger waited impatiently. She found the suspicious object, how long could it take to work out whether it was one of these toxin bombs and pay her?
She paced nervously in the Crow’s Nest. No point asking for a drink, she had been refused already. “We need your mind sharp”, they said. “There may be more of these to find”.
Finally, a mountain of a Norn walked in. kitten , he was big. He was carrying someone, a Sylvari, carefully in his arms. Silently, he walked past Solissa and into the Whispers den she had already been sternly told to pretend did not exist. Following him was an Asura, gently coughing as he held a tissue to his mouth.
He turned to Bren, the Lionguard who had been watching Solissa since she returned from her hunt.
“Th… that was… hakk… toxin all right. We got it cough away from the bank but it went off before I… wheeze could disarm it. Twenty in the infirmary, maybe they’ll make it, maybe they… hkkk won’t”. The tissue contained a mix of green and red. Phlegm and blood, it seems.
Bren turned to Solissa. “If there are more of these out there, we need them found, now. Maybe that one went off accidentally early, or maybe they are intended to go off in waves. Concentrate people into one place for the grand finale. Through whatever sense of self-preservation you possess, you need to find the rest of these things. Go!”.
“B…but… my gold?” she asked, nervously.
“I showed you gold. Never said it would be yours”. He drew a short scimitar style sword. “I am showing you this. Maybe the blade will be”.
She got the hint. Back to the search.
To me, it looks better on heavy armoured characters (although the knee bend angle is still too high), OK on medium, and poor on light.
Why don’t you just mark EVERYTHING toxic as a group event? I am using an lvl 30 in Kessex and theres no kitten way to defeat the portals solo, even though theyre not marked as group events. There’s veterans everywhere, and such as concentration of mobs that you cannot solo this stuff. If you dare to dodge an attack, you aggro another mob.
I think, Anet, you REALLY ****ed up on the difficulty here.
Lvl 30 vs an lvl 23 Veteran Toxic Knight. Constant CC spam cos thats all Anet seems to know, Im downed and then he rezzes and kills me.
Next time, keep this **** out of low level areas. been in Kessex for hours now trying to zone complete, but cant because of BS toxic everywhere.

I vote no, for reasons stated earlier.
Maybe if player housing ever becomes available (I seriously doubt it), there should be the option to have a small bust or statue in your own home, thats it.
Apart from the fact, what happens if you go into a 5 man Salma instance and different people had different orders?
I hate cities…
I’m a Ranger. Never set foot in a city till I was 14. I like grass under my feet, not stone. So when I was woken abruptly by a very aggressive knock on my door, and answered it, only to find Lionguard standing there… well, I was not best amused, to be sure.
I was told, quite sternly, that they were pursuing a quarry and that I would assist. “By order of whom?”, I asked. “By order of your Order”.
Now, I was nominally a member of the OoW. Not that I had time for them, or they had care for me. My lo… I mean pet… Fernhound was just about to show them the way out when a bag of coin was produced. Amazing how a few shiny bits of metal can get one’s attention. Especially when they were shiny gold…
I was taken, quicker than I’d like, to the Captain’s Council. It seems that what they were hunting was not prey, but barrels! Barrels! In Lion’s Arch! The place is practically MADE of barrels! I told them not to waste my time, but before I knew it, I was ‘introduced’ to one of their more… persuasive aides…
So hunt I did. Started at the places where a weapon would cause most damage, the most chaos. Ports of course. Bars and taverns. Places where people gather. Logic, huh?
Sprout’s Honor, my dear Fernhound, nearly wore out his nose searching for anything amiss, in a city where everything is suspicious.
Finally, we found something… right outside the bank. It smelt fishy… or lizardy. Is Kraity even a word?
I reported in what I found and waited to see if my suspicions rang true, or the coins would drop in my purse.
[[Fin… I see what you did there.
Ah well, now Scarlet is involved, it’s all downhill from here. Was good while it lasted.]]
It’d be very odd to go into Salma District to see a statue of a Charr.
I don’t see what he did that was more heroic than Gretchen, Tonn or Arda. Just because you knew him longer, makes no difference.
His actions at Claw Island were minimal. Would the Risen have taken any longer to beat him to mush than they did any other NPC? All he accomplished was holding you up with a dialogue so that it took that much longer to seal the door. He endangered everyone by yabbering on while the Risen came ever closer.
As for slowing the Risen down, there are several story steps (and probably a few days in ‘real time’ between the fall and the retaking of the island. His death can’t have slowed them down that much.
Not particularly a hero in my eyes, no more than Sieran and I liked her a LOT more.
Story mode is a cinch except on Elementalist. Too many mobs for one little boneless bag of bits.
Some champs are soloable. I solod the giant in Nageling (Diessa) with my ranger. Others, no chance.
[[aww kitten, I was gonna join in the rescue but the time I spent catching up on the story has cost me the opportunity. Next time…]]

Grand, tyvm
Every time that halluc effect goes off, I have to look away from the screen and hope Im still alive when its over. The effect literally makes me feel queasy, and I can’t be the only one.
Can we have a way to disable/mitigate its effects, please?
Humans will be worshipping her, just like Kormir, within a decade
Ooh, as said before, I would seriously love to play a Chronomancer. I know someone who played one in offline pen n paper RPG and he was ingenious and funny
Okay, here is a quick sketch of my concept of a 3rd heavy class. I’m biting the bullet and am prepared to be laughed at! This is only a very, very VERY rough sketch of the basic idea of this class, and I am 100% open to criticism, suggestions or other input offered. Just please be constructive.
Suggestion for 3rd heavy class – Man At Arms.
When people hear the term Man At Arms, they mostly presume that it refers to a soldier, or maybe an armoured knight. However, a Man At Arms was originally a term for a more specific form of soldier, that of the nobleman combatant.
Most Men At Arms would be mounted cavalrymen. However, in GW2 this is not entirely possible, so instead I have focused on the concept of a professional soldier and commander of a retinue as most Men At Arms hired and maintained such a retinue.
Weapons:
The weapons used by the Man At Arms would not be unlike those of an armoured knight or a soldier, although with a bias towards lighter and single handed weapons. Generally, the main hand would be a striking weapon, the offhand a defensive.
Main hand:
Sword:
A given for a mounted soldier.
- Slash/thrust/slash/strike. A 4-move attack, to be delivered fluidly (maybe similar to Thief’s #2 combo but slower?) either with a medium damage with bleed condition, or higher damage and no condition. Perhaps a 3s Vuln on the third strike.
- Lance. A single move attack, with longer range than #2, that delivers 3 stacks of vuln for 3s.
- Powerful Blow. A heavy blow, 12s cooldown, giving confusion for 3s and higher damage than #2.
Mace:
An under-utilised weapon in the GW2 skill range.
- Bash, pommel, slam. A 3 move attack, with simple damage, weakness for 2s, simple damage combo.
- Take that! A heavier blow, single move overhead bash, applying a small amount of confusion (3-4s).
- Parry. Defend from next attack, reducing damage by 1/3rd, strike back if struck for medium damage.
Off hand:
Sword:
The old favourite.
- Counter-strike. Parry next attack, gaining 5s Protection if struck, and granting it to allies
- Vengeful strike. Strike the opponent, grants 8s(?) retaliation.
Shield:
Swash those bucklers!
- Stone Wall. Parry next attack, granting Aegis to yourself and allies.
- Get Back! Knockback multiple enemies, gain 5s Protection.
Warhorn:
A friend in need…
- Phalanx. 5 strikes vs targeted enemy (group?), each dealing at random: Bleed, Burning, Chilled, Poison for 2s each. (maybe delivered by a summoned swordsman?)
- Charge! Grants 8s Swiftness to self and allies, and 5s Fury to self and allies.
Two-handed:
Staff:
Usually a magic caster weapon, this would have a more physical use with Man At Arms as many used lances or pole-axes.
- Quarterstaff. A simple bash, lance, bash combination.
- Guard. Protection 3s, with a single strike.
- Blinding Strike. A quick succession of 5-6 strikes, delivering Blind to enemies, plus damage.
- Officer’s Courage. Short range Weakness AOE, whilst curing 3 random conditions on self and 1 on allies.
- Artillery Fire! AOE fire-from above attack, striking enemies within range with Burning, and 3s Retaliation to self and allies.
Longbow:
Keep your enemies close… but not too close.
- Archer. A reasonably quick AA, 1000 range, somewhere between Ranger LB #1 and SB #1 in speed.
- Tracer. Higher damage than AA, with 3s Burn on enemy.
- Marked Man. A volley of 8 shots vs single enemy, dealing Weakness with each shot.
- Rain From Heaven. AOE attack, causing Bleeding to enemies and Regeneration within AOE circle.
- HellFire. Counterpart to #5, this AOE attack causes fire on the ground, dealing Burn to enemies, and Fury to allies within AOE circle.
Aquatic:
Spear and Trident. Skills to be added later if I continue this concept.
Utility skills
I haven’t gone much into the main utility skills, except the overall concept of the Man At Arms.
It’s specific Utility Skill class would be Retinue. These would be summoned similar in effect to the Mesmer clones, each type with its own specific abilities.
Heal Retinue:
Combat Medic! This would summon a Retinue medic, healing the user, and running to injured allies, granting a few seconds regeneration to each.
Other Retinue would include:
Arquebusier. Rifleman, dealing damage at range up to 900.
Jack. Quarterstaff user, short range, dealing confusion with bash attacks.
Shieldbearer. Tanks damage, grants Aegis once to user and allies when summoned.
Militiaman. Uses sword, short range, dealing bleed to enemies.
Duellist. Uses dual pistols, medium range akimbo damage (similar to pistol user from Theif’s Thieve’s Guild?)
Elite Utility Retinue:
Summons 3 of the above, random which type is summoned, plus Fury and Retaliation for user for 15-20s.
As for ascended- it is an abomination and I will never go there- I value my sanity
I agree. My interest in GW2 took a noticeable dip when that came out.
I am stuck with one hint to complete, the PvP Finishing Opponents one. I have finished opponents in WvW, PvP and the PvP training lobby. Is there a trick to this, or is it a known bug?
Cheers.
I am male, play all females (9 characters) in GW2. And APB, all 5 are female. Defiance, female. Crimecraft… female.
For me, it is a social issue where I do not like/associate with alpha males. In videogames I find them uncomfortable to play.
I create characters which I can use in offline roleplay games, except my Sylvaris and Asura which I made just because they are cute
I dont want a character that looks like me or that I can relate to… I over-analyse myself and hate what I see. Playing is about escaping the mun, not replicating it.
You actually BOUGHT 75 toxic dye kits? Sorry, but if you are that foolhardy, you deserve the narrowest RNG range possible.
European Truck Simulator 2 now dominates my life :’(
Actually, Im a bit bored on GW2. 8×80s, all equipped as well as I need, so taking a bit of a haitus. I will be back.
I was going to flesh out a possible new heavy class but then the staff said there would be no more classes. That ended my interest in that project, and largely in GW2 as a whole.
I don’t really want to participate in this dull and frustrating waste of time… and now I have to actually finish in the top 10?…
Engineer – anything, anything at all, with decent damage/attacks.
I don’t get it. Is it a power trip or something? Someone actually had to go out of their way to modify something that wasn’t a real bug or a harm to anyone.
I have played all classes, several far more than ranger, and I feel it is fine.
I’d personally say it is more effective solo and grouped than guardian, elementalist, mesmer and engineer, and in the right situations better than thief and maybe necro. Thats my opinion.
I take my ranger to dungeons, I outlast my warrior by a mile, while doing good sword DPS. I dont think the ranger is a bad class at all. I’d choose it over my ele, mesmer, thief, guardian and even my engineer if effectiveness was needed. Only classes I feel that are better right now (for my particular play style) are necro and warrior.
The ranger is effective on its own, the pet is a (small) bonus.
Oh I love engineer, its my fave character class by far. But turrets are useless, rifle and pistols are useless, cant use backpacks without clipping with kits, kit builds are the only useful setups.
A wild engineer appears.. How kitten does your ranger feel now?
Engineers are intrinsically weak and broken too.
With LB, my ranger is probably my 3rd highest damage dealer. It is resilient enough. Its shortbow is the fastest ranged AA there is. Shockingly, it is my second choice for dungeons and 1st for world bosses.
And yet, it still feels like something is missing. The ability to permanently stow pet and/or actually have it survive longer with more control abilities would be brilliant.
If it ain’t Ooze, it ain’t nuthin’.
I use sword/pistol as my main combo on thief. Dat headshot <3 plus it deals decent damage. The best attack (#3) does root you however.
