I had the exact problem actually.
I originally had a female Human Necro. Delete.
I then made a female Asura Necro. Nope. Still not right. Delete.
I made a female Sylvari Necro. Better. But still not the look I was going for. Delete.
Remade the Asura Necro. Still only liked the Arah armor on her. Sigh, delete.
Then I made a female Norn Necromancer. Perfect. Holds a greatsword strongly, runs with daggers as if she was born with them, looks Majestic with Nevermore weilded.

So, my advice, go with your gut. It’s worth it, there’s no real loss in deleting characters, if you don’t need the slot right now, you can just not play your human necro for a bit.

  • Laurels from Login Rewards can be traded for T6 mats that you can sell. 28 login rewards (if you take the Laurel chest on the last day of the cycle) will give you 55 laurels that you can sell for 165 T6 rare mats that you could sell on the TP for 40-50 gold.

It’s more profitable to buy Medium crafting bags for t4 materials than it is to buy the t6 bags. (99s/laurel for t4 compared to 77s/laurel for t6, figures from gw2efficiency)

Additionally;
Daily t4 fractals should get you a minimum of 15g/day roughly.
Meta-events in HoT all reward an Amalgamated gemstone on first daily completion (4x 1g80s ish)
If you don’t mind any mindless farming, the fractal 40 farm to sell the encryptions is a relatively good farm if you can hack the mundane nature of it. (I can’t for more than 30minutes personally, these runs are also strict as time=money)

I can agree that maybe the TP limit should be raised to maybe 15k. But this is the only item (I think!) that is considered that valuable due to it’s insane obtainability. Raising it for one item is not really worth it.

The fees are the same % regardless of item value, if the tp cap was raised to 15k or even 20k the fee would also be more too (750g to list this item at 15k, 1500g transfer, 1000g at 20k, 2000g transfer) so maybe it is a good thing the cap is 10k.

Honestly, I don’t think Anet will allow the advertisement of circumventing their trading post system, because that is the safe way to trade.

It’s all well and good people saying it’s worth more because of some offers on random forums to buy it, but while you may have the item, the other player offering to buy it might not have the gold

Once you pay both fees on the post, you get 8500g. That’s still 8500g you didn’t have.

I have to agree for a token system for Teq and Wurm skins. No one is saying they have to be cheap, could be 1 token per Exotic Dragon Chest/Golden Wurm Chest, then maybe 15 tokens for offhands, 25 for mainhand, 35 for Two hands and armor pieces, along with 1 new crafted token currently used to buy ascended armor/weapons in PvP and fractals.

For example, the same reason there is the Magnetite Shard Vendor in raids was so you can eventually get the skins you want while participating regularly on the not so rare chance the items you want do not drop.

Question about dps for thief ( d/p vs p/p)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Haleydawn.3764

Haleydawn.3764

D/p is meta in PvP and WvW only, for the utility of gaining stealth quick aswell as the hard hitting backstab and auto attack chain.

PvE d/d (pistol for raid only iirc, for the CC) or staff is meta. All benchmarks were done at level 80 with the appropriate armor, runes, weapons and sigils (for both direct damage and condition damage respectively).

P/p is easily counterable by elementalists, or any profession that can reflect/mitigate the Unload enough to drain you of Initiative, then you’re a goner.

But, in short, play how you want. I personally have all weapons on my thief ready to use. Full ascended as and when I feel like and know I’m not gimping my party. Some weapons are better in certain situations, d/p (pvp meta) or s/d-p is ok in PvP, is S/p is good for trash, d/d or Staff for bosses, p/p for when you need single target range dps, and shortbow for blasts/skips/quick get aways.

My all rounder is Power Reaper at the moment, with my own set up because she was overcap on crit in shroud. I don’t do fractals with her though because people only see the condi reaper build on metabattle and ignore the similar rated power reaper build. Very odd but whatever ^^

Other than high level fractals and raids I do pretty much everything else on her. Plus power reaper doesn’t need to use minions if you don’t like them (I don’t either).

A condi reaper can tank and be an offhealer while still putting out decent damage so the question is what really is an allrounder?

At 22k HP with a 20ishK shroud bar, shouts to remove conditions and powerful CC, power reaper can definitely compete with condi reaper in that sense. Blood Magic is not exclusively for condi builds either.People choose condi reaper because condition damage itself is quite OP atm especially in WvW. That and it’s pretty brain dead to use. (instead of full valk+scholar I run berserk+trooper with valk accessories and rings, keeps my crit cap and allows shouts condition removal and more survivability when I WvW. I use this set in OW too and things still melt.)

I use my power build because it’s fun and it melts enemies while keeping me alive.

When creating a character you can also skip right ahead to the name bit and find a name you like, start the game log out then delete that character with your desired name. It is reserved for 24hrs. Then you can make the character how you want while knowing that name is safe.

I’ve never had problems with my character names though. I use first and last names for all permanent characters except my now lone Sylvari.

My Condi Fix

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The biggest problem with condition builds are the fact you only need the one stat for the damage, where as power builds require 3 stats in harmony.

The biggest improvement to how condition damage works would be to require power and precision to up it’s damage rather than just condition damage alone. You want a powerful condi build, you’ve got to have pow/prec to get that. How to go about reworking that is up for debate.

I’ve sank time into most of them, 6 are in full ascended and 7 have 100% map. Some are situationally geared though, necromancer is geared for PvX, Mesmer for Fractals, thief for general dungeoneering and farming, etc. Those three I play mainly though.

I used /stuck in story missions where I was stuck in scenery, and it returned me to last checkpoint without removing progress. You can’t touch a button once you use /stuck and it should work, it takes 30seconds. In open world, we unstick ourselves using waypoints (obviously), this command is for instances.

Iirc, this command doesn’t work in pvp (idk why because it should), just log to character select then log back in to restart at spawn.

1- You aren’t doing anything wrong, you are in new PvP territory. Even the best of players die in WvW. It’s a fact of MMO PvP.

2- Many WvW roamers have a lot of experience in traversing the terrain, and taking down their enemy. I’m assuming you play thief or maybe mesmer given the fact you stated your stealth skill. If you are playing in Exotics or some stat considered squishy, you will die. Very easily unless you know your profession inside and out.

3- You learn how to play levelling and PvEing, you learn survival and tactics in PvP.

I personally learned more about my professions through PvP and WvW than I did in PvE.

Obligatory, people are better than you because that’s how they play and have done so for a while. No one is a ‘natural’ at PvP but it is definitely something you can improve on.

Haleydawn.3764

Thanks guys, that’s nice & understandable advise.
I’ll forget legendary gear and go for ascended (have quite some laurels).
I see how things are arranged in WvW, just go there now and then, without whining ;-)

Looking at ascended gear:
Any difference between Crystalline band and Rong of red death?
(both are 120-85-85 + 1 infusion slot)

The difference is in the type of infusions you can apply. Unless something has changed since I last looked, you can’t wear two rings of the same type. So you can wear a Crystalline Band and a Ring of Red Death, but you can not wear two Ring of Red Death.

There’s no different type of infusion slot anymore. They are all just infusion slots (apart from your Amulet, which is an enrichment slot for upgrades related to XP/Gold Find/Karma and Magic Find) Which really should have seen ‘Unique’ status removed from rings atleast.

If an item says ‘Unique’ you can only wear 1 of that item.
You can wear for example;
Ring of Red Death with Ring of Red Death (Infused), or Attuned Ring of Red Death (Infused), because each instance of the ring being standard, Infused, Attuned or both, is a different item.
If you are planning to do fractals though, you may need all 3 infusion slots on rings, so it makes more sense to have two different items with the same stats to allow for you to wear them.

Who are we to other players and others to us?

I’d go with neither. The final HoT story instance occurs concurrently with the DS meta. It wouldn’t make sense for the commander to be in two places.

You sure? I always thought the DS meta event played out before the twon final story missions.

The short cut npc was just implemented so that people playing the story were not bottlenecked by the event.

That NPC was always there.

You’re ahead of the pact during the story and it was confirmed during an AMA or something that they occurred at the same time.

I know the npc eas always there. It’s the same for all HoT maps and story missions which I assume was decided on during development to not gate story content behind meta events.

Always made more sense to me that we first killed mordremoths shell and then dealt with his mind.

Not only did the AMA confirm that the battle between us and Mordremoth in DS and in Hearts and Minds happen at the same time, Canach also says this in Hearts and Minds; “The dragon is focused on the battle outside. We’ll never get a better chance.”

As for the PC, you are the ‘leader’, your PC will see other adventurers as allied forces. So you are both the leader, and an allied force for other leaders. That’s how I see it anyway.

Legendary weapon: best methods to obtain

Haleydawn.3764

I was really looking foward to getting some legendarys not so sure now, hopefully they will look into making this a little easier in the future.

Obtaining Legendaries are long term goals, and heavily documented (wiki) and trackable (gw2efficiency). All any player really needs is patience.

The first 4 (1st gen) I made, I just used wiki. Then I got into using gw2 efficiency tracking my account and crafting and it’s been a breeze. I’m almost finished making Nevermore, the 10th legendary I’ve crafted. I gave one legendary to my husband and 2 others I sold.

I tend to hoard materials until I decide I want to make another one. Then I sell what I don’t need and passively collect more until I need to just start buying specific materials while still selling everything I will not need. Material management is key.

Equip minimum of Exotic quaility in all of your item slots, especially if you plan on WvW. Then start thinking about crafting Ascended armor/weapons. Ascended back items/rings/accessories are readily available in the new Living Story maps, Laurel vendors, fractals, and Guild Commendation vendors.

Most WvW’ers are well equipped with Ascended items with WvW enhancements in them, so they will more often than not destroy you with anything less then Exotic gear and good knowledge of how to play your profession. Most also mix up their stats to balance their damage output, while supporting survivability. (going full berserkers in WvW is not for the faint hearted)
Some PvX players have specific sets of gear for WvW and PvE.

Berserker’s Elegant Jewellers Backpack (and the other craftable exotic back items) are level 78, so they will not take upgrades that are level 80 (Exquisite Ruby)

Legendary weapons have the same stats as Ascended quality, the only benefit of legendaries are it’s ability to stat swap out of combat, and it’s unique skin of course.

If you have HoT, it is currently cheaper to craft Zap than to buy it outright. If it’s going to take you 4-5 months to save that gold up, you may aswell shave a month or so off just crafting it using your own daily Ascended cooldowns.

Get the Gift of Battle track going now. If you don’t like WvW or don’t want to WvW, just do the WvW dailies you can manage for potions to progress the track. If you don’t mind WvW, still go and get stuck in and get it going. Some reward tracks give clovers out, some give 2, others give you 7 clovers each. These are split from PvP, so you can do the same track in WvW and PvP for more mystic clovers which will save you gold when it comes to making Gift of Fortune.

You’ll need atleast 250 Obsidian shards and extra if you craft your clovers. These can drop abundantly in Silverwastes bandit chests, if you are particularly low on karma.

The Gift of Battle

Haleydawn.3764

“4 hours” “6 hours”…

Riiiight. Maybe you guys should try playing on a dead server, or one that is only active when you are at work, or asleep, etc.

I’ve run with a “zerg” for 2 hours straight and hardly seen any advance because the opposing servers simply had far bigger blobs.

Meanwhile we constantly had to waste time hitting the repair station because while we were undermanned, we didn’t get the undermanned buff because of all the people standing around AFK to get their GoB.

As has been suggested before. They need to nuke the reward track, and bring back Map Completion. Give out one Fragment of Battle per map, then forge all four in the mystic forge to obtain the Gift of Battle. The only downside that needs to be covered is whether or not someone might be on a server that is stuck being the same color all the time.

Oh, and while we’re at it, they should remove the tokens you buy with Proof of Heroics that let you just double click to get a Hero Point.

I’m on Aurora Glade, my server has drastically declined in players, we’re teamed up with Ring of Fire right now, it’s better but the enemy zergs are still 2-3x our numbers. I can still keep my 195 up easily because you don’t need a zerg to do that. There’s also Edge where you will find a zerg upon it’s map refreshing.

Hero Points should be obtainable in WvW, since many players don’t want to PvE map complete to play a specialisation in WvW. That’s why they were added in the first place.

Try to remain current.

Wow and tie well over 80 days to get enough dailies to complete a reward track that can be Afk’ed through 4 hrs bahahaha

That’s pointless when it generally takes longer than that to collect all the other resources and components and gifts needed to make a Legendary weapon.

The OP clearly states the Gift of Battle is the last thing he needs, why drag it out over 20-80 days of dailies, when you can bash it out in 4-6hrs active play?
Maybe when he makes another legendary, he will passively do the track via the daily method, but that is not what the OP is wanting, since it is the last thing he needs right now.

Getting a legendary weapon

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Haleydawn.3764

Haleydawn.3764

There was a long period of time where you could technically make several legendaries without ever playing WvW as Gift of Battle was could be purchased without any requirements (using achievement chest badges of honor). Later they added a WvW rank requirement (still a fairly low one though) and now it is tied to the reward track. It has always been the intention from the devs that you do things in all gamemodes except sPvP, which has it’s own legendary.

Yeah, Anet shot themselves in the foot adding badges to achievement chests. It almost completely devalued them.
Originally no requirement for purchase, but you could only get badges in WvW.
Then came the achievement chests and if not soon after, a rank 50 requirement, which was soon lowered to 13.

The reward track was a good step imo, it’s not perfect though. I’d personally have it as a blank reward track that runs simultaneous to another track we select. It then progresses as any other track with a selectable reward of Mystic Clovers and an Amalgamated Gemstone or the Gift of Battle.

Experimental Envoy Armor skin not unlocked

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Haleydawn.3764

I think this is intended.

You select the Experimental Envoy Armor from a chest. You do not “use” that armor to get the Refined Envoy chest; it just gives it to you from the collection. The Refined armor is then “used” to make the Perfected Envoy.

So technically, you could get the Experimental skins in a totally different weight, but end up crafting the actual Legendary armor in another weight.

Technically it is a bug, since any other ascended equipment unlocks in the wardrobe automatically due to it being account bound on acquire.

OP, did you open the chest containing said armor? You said you picked medium, but did you then open that chest?

It’s almost certain that they weren’t trying to drum up numbers for WvW; there are far easier, and less controversial ways to do that.

Very true. Anet just returned the GoB to it’s original status of needing to WvW for it. They almost completely devalued badges of honour by adding them to achievement chests.

If Anet desperately wanted to boost WvW play, they’d add a legendary back item, Ascended Armor vendor, and any other carrots they can. Hey they even tried to add ‘story’ to Edge of the Mists, when Mai Trin escaped and fled there with Braham and Taimi in tow, once you entered though there was no elaboration on it. In all fairness though, the meta and lack of build variety across the board is just a small part of the bigger problem.
I’ve not set foot in PvP for 2 months because it is entirely stale. The maps. The builds. The lack of battle choice (we have conquest, conquest… Conquest, conquest, oh and stronghold which is a PvE arms race…) The, ahem, ‘variety’ of builds that compete with other builds on the same level (Next to none). The mode itself is bland.

I Need Some Advice

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Haleydawn.3764

Haleydawn.3764

‘Full character completion’ is a good one. So, 100%map and ascended armor and weapons for each character is one of my personal goals.
Ascended armors and weapons are a good reasonable goal for ‘filthy casuals’, equipping all of your ‘main’ characters with them will give you something to aim for. Legendary journeys are not too complex either, as they track themselves in the achievement panel.

As a casual, I’ve got 1 of each profession, 7/9 have 100%map, other two aren’t far behind, and all but 3 are in full ascended gear. I don’t know when I’ll achieve my goal, but I’m slowly working on it which is good for me.

I try to complete as many achievements as possible, but they’re short term goals unless they’re in WvW or PvP. So it depends entirely on my mood that day. Sometimes I’ll just spend a couple hours in WvW killing dolyaks (I will have the Yakslapper title!), or meta events in HoT to make gold/get Amalgamated Gemstones to finish Nevermore (10th Legendary, I sold 2 that I made and gave 1 to my husband)

Really though, it’s whatever you want to do, as a casual it is slower but not impossible.

Race change

Maybe ANet should sell a combo (level 80 boost, character slot and name change contract) in the gemstore and call it The Race Changer Boost pack.

False advertisement due to not actually changing your characters race.
Two of those 3 you can buy anyway, and tomes are easy enough to come by.

1) Tomes in game require specific play styles which not all people do as some are very casual (yet still want to switch races) or they use tomes to get Spirit Shards for promotion of mats or use as they get them to free up scarce bank space or they use them on key runs, and not have 80 on hand when they wish to switch races.
2) the benefit of a Combo pack is it can have a reduced price for getting all items together rather than buying separately
3) a Combo pack specifically named Race Change Combo pack would give a definite answer to the question people keep asking, “will they put a race change item in the gem store?” The Combo pack would make it obvious that no, they aren’t going to offer a direct race change but they will sell the Combo pack to make switching to another race as painless as possible.
4) it would be a convenience item for the gem store to sell, which is always good for the game’s finances

Let’s burst that bubble. Levels can’t be bought from the gemstore. XP boosters yes, but not tomes.

Rince repeat. Second seal as before but leave yourself enough space to bait and drop twice before stealth and do a 180 in flight direction, scan and hit 1 target to freeze and despawn mobs.

Timing is key doing this one. If you try 2-3 times with no success, go do something else then come back to it. Doesn’t really require precision gliding, I’d call it controlled choatic gliding, the mobs will always throw the fireballs at you and nothing else, so you need to be unpredictable in gliding.

Only on Verdant Brink map at night time. Random lag comes and goes during this nighttime meta event not even registering as ping increases. It’s incredibly weird and frustrating doing this event.

But, it’s called ‘Daily League Participator’. The League is over, until the next one starts.

Guardian shield skills have no projectiles though.

See yt videos of Mesmer using Flameseeker with a Sceptre, Tides of Time shows the page trail and the book, but does not change Auto-attack projectiles, same when using Pistol/Shield on Engineer.

Favorite Guild Wars 2 character/NPC?

Honestly (typically), I love Taimi. Her quips and general hyperactiveness is hilarious for me. Closely followed by Countess Anise, we need to see more of her.

Honorable mention is Dawkkurra, the Skritt in Westwatch events in Auric Basin, the dialogue is just brilliantly done for a Skritt who finds floaty shiny objects that are sentient.

Iirc, if you play the mode enough, you get an in game mail about any active polls occuring (which then filters players who actually take part in that particular game mode to vote for any changes), it’s then upto the player if they wish to take part in it.

Legendary Weapon Snafu

It has always been a requirement to craft in multiple disciplines for legendary weapons (For example, the Gift of the Juggernaut, will require you craft a Gift of Metal (Weaponsmith) and a Vial of Quicksilver (Jeweler).)

Crafting precursers added more onto the workload.

Quickest way to level a character?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Obligatory: If it is your first character, no need to be in a rush leveling.

Absolutely! Also stock pile tomes in your bank so you can boost alts as and when you want. I keep 1-2 stacks in bank then consume any excess for spirit shards.

Yes you can still “level” in EoTM.

Each time you rank up in WvW XP, you’ll gain a tome of knowledge along with any you get from reward tracks. Put on XP boosters (Which boosts WxP aswell as normal XP in PvE) and go for it.
