Mesmers in large group play I think now have some of the worst build flexibility. This is mostly because they’re told to keep at least 3/4 utilites that are either Veil, portal, nullfield and their elite is either TW/MI. I’ve started playing my engineer more recently mostly because doing mesmer like that got boring…

People need to learn that mesmers != veil/portalbots! It is very boring play for us to just be veilbots when we have so much more! (I’ve seen a person berate a mantra mesmer because they didn’t have veil slotted for not being a group player…)

It took me about 2 hours camping the champions in Queensdale until a whirling one happened to spawn. It’s RNG

Weekly Tarnished Coast Dolyak Parade
Once again this week there will be another dolyak parade! Last weeks parade was very successful with lots of SoR, BG and TC coming out to have some fun! Lets try to double these numbers!

For those who do not know, the Dolyak parade is a time where we get together and just have fun, and of course, parade around as dolyaks around the borderlands! Of course, you do not have to be a dolyak if you do not wish to be. In the past, everything from griffons to snowmen to elementals have flocked to our parade. So come out and celebrate the dolyaks, who sacrifice much for our endless war!

Information

• Where: WvW borderlands. The exact one will be chosen ~1 hr beforehand
• When: Thursday (8/8) at 7 PM ST (yes 1 hour later)
• Who: Anyone is willing to participate! If you come and need a tonic, just ask a friendly DOLY representative and we can give you some to join in!
• How: If you choose to become a dolyak, there are 2 ways: a Ruminant Tonic, and a Dolyak Tincture (feel free to wiki these). Of course any other kind of tonic is welcome, or even none at all if you just want to run along!

So I’ve been having massive lag during the Queen’s Gauntlet since my zone is totally filled. I’ve found that when theres a legendary mob roaming below, the fights in the gauntlet also suffer from massive lag. During deadeye, the “beam” wasn’t rendering, and there were several times during fights where it would “pause” from server lag and come back. In fights where every moment counts, why would anet not instance the fights (they even did this for the last Belcher’s Bluff guy!)? Lag during these fights can sometimes make it almost impossible to finish, especially if things aren’t rendering (I’m running on high graphics with a good card. It only seems to happen the moment the legendary bosses below spawn)

Has anyone else noticed that many of the bosses in the game which do ranged “projectile” like attacks are “immune” to reflections? For instances, bosses which fire guns which can shoot you through a feedback? Was this done on purpose for a work around to not make reflections strong in PvE? I’ve noticed while playing PvE for LS stuff (I normally do WvW) that reflection builds are much more useless since it seems most mob attacks aren’t affected by them, even if they are ranged “projectile” like attacks.

I think anet needs to either make a buff on the mob to say their attacks can’t be reflected, even though they should, or make the descriptions of the reflection attacks more what they represent. In WvW, there’s no problem, since almost all the player ranged attacks seem to count (its why you can die from retal with 1 feedback!), but in PvE I’ve found most reflection skills to have very little effect on champions and higher.

I’ve actually been having some fun during this match I was running in small havoc groups yesterday in EBG. It was fun to run around and do small group stuff, and quite funny when there would be 5 of us, and BG or SOR responded with 30-50. Not that it was bad, we were kinda asking for it by doing things like cata’ing T3 towers and taking your camps, it was just funny to see the sea of red and go “well, back to spawn we go!”

3 pages in and this thread has already gone into the “NUH UH You’re the chest thumper” “NO, you are!” talk again? Can’t we at least wait until after the weekend to start to useless bickering? -.-

You should have seen the yak tail following out. Went on for aggggggggges. I had to go back to normal to use my speed buffs to catch up to the front!

Best part was when we hit north camp. There was a collective groan at the sight of the SoR zerg sitting up there. But instead of attacking us they all turned into dolyaks and charged with us! Was a nice change compared to FA.

Yeah, I saw a large swarm of SoR nameplates coming at me. I momentarily thought “Oh jeez..this isn’t going to end well”….then they all rendered as quaggans and I was like “<3”

Now, everyone should stop the GvGing-drama and just have fun, and just be cool Instead of forum fighting with your enemy, go next to one and wave, and lay out some trays of cookies so we can all enjoy!

To those who did GvG’s today, I hope you all had fun, and the ones I watched were quite fun (except that miscommunication of EP/ESOL wiping the spectators after their GvG, not knowing many were there waiting for the parade, but we talked it out and its all good! ) For those with GvGs tomorrow, good luck!

SWTOR didn’t even have a combat log to begin with. They added a combat log and a way to export the data into a 3rd party program, which is not a dps meter but it’s better than nothing. If SWTOR can do it then i’d really like to thing gw2 could muster something similar.

The combat log in the end was actually pretty useful for the group I was in. When we ran raids, we had everyone use the log during the raids. Not to post and brag, or kick people out, but for us to learn what the individual needs to change.

I think a gw2 combat log would be really helpful, especially if it could track things like the conditions you took, etc. Then, not only could you learn more about your enemy (seeing what conditions they use a lot), but also the faults in your own build. It can be difficult sometimes in WvW when lots of things are attacking you, with AoE condition clears, etc, to tell where all the pitfalls in your build are. This could be a great method, especially if they had their own tools to see the logs they could publish, to improve not only the players, but the devs ideas of what is actually going on in the WvW fights (if they could analyse the combat logs themselves).

It sounds like someone had a keep taken from them by a mesmer who died by the watergate at bay… (which isn’t an exploit since there is perfect LOS on both sides of the grate (test it, you can attack people through the gate with range attacks!), it’s just cheap)

Btw, the timer is the SAME timer as the afk limit. There is a “workaround”, which includes using tonics, among others. These aren’t exploits, seeing as you’re not “exploiting” anything, you’re just not being afk. When it kicks you out when you’re dead isn’t a “death” timer, but an afk timer.

That being said, it sounds like what really got you, by your own statement, was someone dead (probably mesmer) near a gate or something and was rezzed through it when dead…not the person themselves being dead. BTW, did you ask people to +1 your post o.O

I don’t use exploits but thanks for the blind accusations when I was trying to explain. The timer IS the afk timer. It isn’t an exploit, because the timer has nothing to do with the death, but with you staying in the same place not moving.

Should there be a “death” timer? Sure, why not, it’d help out and there isn’t really downside. All I’m doing is explaining that what are being called exploits aren’t exploits (except the rezzing through walls/doors when there is no LOS), and that’s why nothing has been done about it since the game came out (and it was known then).

• The recipe makes a one-time use item, it does not unlock a new skill
• This is not going to replace a mesmer in your party

It’s almost that time of the week again! Once again, DOLY will be holding the TC Dolyak Parade. This is an event that is open for all servers, to come and celebrate the sacrifice that Dolyaks make for our endless war. It’s the dolyak’s who carry our supply, with which we repair our keeps, or build machines to kill the enemy! It’s the dolyaks who risk it all to carry that valuable supply across the matches. Many sadly don’t make, and the parade is there to celebrate their lives, and their sacrifice! Judging by the forum posts, I can tell there are many who are excited for this weeks parade! Last week we had so many, the dolyak parade LAGGED, so let’s try to get that again, or beat it! Imagine if we could crash the anet WvW server..WITH DOLYAKS! snicker So, now time for some information:

When: Thursday at 6 PM Server time (ST)
Where: A borderland will be chosen shortly before the event. This is to try to find a map where there is minimal queues and minimal action, so those who don’t want to join are affected as little as possible. We gather near the windmill by south camp.
How:
There are numerous ways to participate:

• Tonic as a dolyak using either a Dolyak Tincture or Ruminant tonic. If you don’t have one of these and still want to participate, come anyways and ask a friendly DOLY representative for one! We always have a massive supply of them for people!
• Tonic as any other critter, creature, abomination, etc. Whether you’re a dolyak, a plush griffon, or a large ice elemental, there’s room for you in our parade! We’re all inclusive!
• Feel free to not tonic and run around as an escort. A dolyak escort is person who runs with the parade and helps kill any baddies who want to ruin the parade. You can even gather together to form a personal bodyguard regiment for the parade! And no, a dolyak escort is not a dolyak on the streets of DR.

Who can I contact?
If you have any questions, comments, conundrums, silly dolyak jokes, feel free to comment me, or any other DOLY representative!

And remember, the Gold Dolyak is watching.

It depends if you’re talking about QUEUE (i.e. WvW servers), or server population (which doesn’t change the lag if maps are already queued on higher tiered servers)

WvW population != server population. TC is one of the most full servers, but we don’t have the highest WvW population (granted we are still in the top 5).

lol I’m really not sure where this comes from. I would definitely not say FA has had a poor attitude or been disrespectful. If you think FA as a server has been, then you probably pay too much attention to one or two posts. That, or you get too upset when PvP happens in a PvP zone to a certain parade. Hey all, so I was doing a small group fight (2v5) in WvW earlier and, with my reflection build, noticed something a bit off about the focus reflect for Focus #4. It seemed to not reflect even half of the projectiles that went through it.

Does anyone know why this is? Is it capped by AoE, or some internal timer?

I haven’t done much testing myself on it, but it definitely seems to not reflect things very well at all.

I rarely have issues on my mesmer in WvW. Sure, I might die sometimes, but i never feel underwhelmed. Just today me and an ele guildmate took on 5 enemy for ~20 minutes before we finally got bested.

My question to you is: 1) What level is your mesmer? Mesmers are, from my experience, one of the roughest to level up in the early levels. and 2) In WvW, what build are you using? In WvW, mesmer zerker can be very difficult since you have such a small amount of health.

I don’t run with condition clears, however I do always run with blink. Mesmer’s great strength is we can control the distance we fight from fairly well. However, as a class it does have a considerable learning curve, unlike warriors, etc. It takes time to be a good mesmer. I have also never ran centaur runes, or anything else like that just to keep up. I currently run Runes of Mercy.

I myself have run several very successful builds in WvW, listed below:

• Glamour-Aoe build (before nerf): used cond/tough armor
• Condi mesmer: same armor as above
• AoE stun lock build: PTV+stun/daze sigils/runes
• Reflection medic: (my current favorite). Running a mix of PTV/VTP, with reflection combined with 26-30k (depending on buffs), my mesmer can not only shell out lots of damage, but can take A BIG beating, plus support from medic feedback. Reflection, imo, is a MASSIVELY powerful tool that mesmers can really take advantage of much more than any other class. Distortion with reflection+feedback+focus reflection+mirror+(maybe if you want mimic+sword#2) is extraordinary powerful to have.
• I’ve also fiddled with shatter and boon-share builds..

So, before you call it quits, if you like the feeling of the mesmer class, I’d look on the forums. Look at the different builds, find one that seems interesting to you and try and practice

Mesmers do have GREAT in combat mobility (it’s out of combat we kinda suck). Plus focus pull #4 is a fantastic CC! These comments are mostly for WvW since that is what I mostly play.

The [YAK] thing was a nice touch…and you guys say you don’t RP RPing as [YAK] is the exact same as us RP’ing as dolyaks in the first place hehe…so, we toasters got FA to RP! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And we got them do it weekly!

Why take the dolyak stuff to another thread that is really old? :P I mean, unless you wanna hide that you guys regularly hold an RP event hehe

In the end, its all in good fun, and we who organize it when we’re facing FA know that they’ll send an entire zerg to kill us (which helps our forces sometimes hehe).

Weekly Tarnished Coast Dolyak Parade

Yes it is that time of week again! The famous Tarnished Coast Dolyak Parade will once again be held tomorrow, Thursday, at 6 PM Server Time. This is an event that is open for all servers in the match up!

What is a Dolyak parade?!
The Dolyak parade is a group of player who tonic as dolyaks, or really anything, and do a joyous parade around a borderlands in celebration of the most selfless of all creatures in WvW: the dolyaks. Yes, the dolyaks! They give us supply for all our killing needs! Whether you have to build that Arrow cart to kill an army, or repair a wall after defeating a siege, it’s the dolyaks who give you that supply! Come and join to celebrate them and show your support!

When…where…HOW?!

• When: Thursday, 7/25, at 6 PM ST (or 9 PM EST, 6 PM PST)
• Where: One of the BL’s. A Borderland is normally chosen about 30-45 minutes before the event. This enables the best borderland to be chosen (i.e. not pick one that currently has a big force inside a keep trying to take).
• How: There are numerous ways to become dolyaks if you wish to be one. A DOLY member will be able to give you Ruminant tonics, which allow you to tonic as dolyaks, or other ruminant creatures. You can also get a Dolyak Tincture from the Yak’s Bend WP in Frostgorge. You can tonic as whatever you wish, or not tonic and be a dolyak escort (and no, not that kind of escort).

Not true, but when people say stuff like “I see people coming through ____’s doors”, they don’t know much. It could be any number of reasons. However, if someone said “I used _ skill and at ____ location facing ____, I somehow ended up inside the enemy tower” it would be much more useful. Also, if you know any WvW devs in game, you could always show them. Worked for me when I found a bug and happened upon a dev!

I used to see the occasional botter doing it when they used to gives rewards, and every bot in WvW is a player that isn’t killing people or taking objectives! And since they’re bots, they’re not even protecting the dolyaks.

IF there were rewards for escorting dolyaks, they’d have to give something like Wxp which has very little coin value, so that people are still rewarded without being an incentive to bot it.

Is the GW2 time machine standing in between two walls of reflection and firing at one of them?

It’s entirely RNG..I’ve gotten 70+ chests, and so far Ive only gotten greens.

And I’m more glad that they’ll take the time (from what it sounds like) so the achievements are retroactive rather than having everyone start over with whatever new achievements there are. I’d rather them do that and get a massive influx on achievements done when they’re introduced than them bring in a new system where none of my past work is “rewarded”

Why else would they put the crystal there for the higher jumps right there? THere’s really no other need for jumps from then on except the short cut.

Ever since someone helped me out with the Box O Fun trick I’ve been telling everyone who has had the displeasure of playing against bugged Adnul.

Set up a Box O Fun right before playing him, set it to anything really, petrify I hear is the best. Start the bluff challenge with him, on your turn use the box, sit back and watch as Adnul drinks himself to death while you are invulnerable.

Works 100%. If Anet isn’t going to fix a bugged encounter, then odds are they won’t fix this loophole either.

They fixed all the other loopholes after they were posted in the forums without fixing the mob, so I would do this as soon as you can if you want to.

You get the title the moment you cross the finish line first, you don’t have to wait for thes core if my memory serves me correctly. I finished in 6th one time and a lot of people left leaving me with the highest score when the match ended.

If the first player leaves, the highest possible score is 165, so that will show on the right, instead of the normal 175. First place is always 175. You’ll also know you got first because you get slightly “better” loot (a tiny amount of extra silver and karma I think) than the normal chest.

Not complaining about the scroll, but I do find it a little amusing that ANet thinks someone who has achieved 5000 achievement points doesn’t play enough or have enough ALTs already… so we’ll give them a scroll so that they can roll another ALT!

I have 5500 achieve points, and I only have 1 alt above level 20. I play mostly my level 80, and Ive only craft levelled my other alt to level 55. You don’t need many characters to get to 5500 achievement points. (Most of the other alts I made just to see what the class is like and soon abandoned them)

All you thieves out there now know what it felt like to be a mesmer back before the confusion nerf, or before the portal nerf Just take your beatings, hope anet doesn’t wack your class in the nuts with the nerf-bat like confusion, and just move on From personal experience, posting on these threads saying your class is perfectly balanced isn’t exactly making anything better, eh? :P

The WvW devs could probably read our suggestions more if every WvW suggestion thread wasn’t immediately moved to the suggestions thread where it gets buried under 10 pages of asking for more mini’s, or a new quaggan backpack idea, or any of ideas in a long line is silliness. They probably couldn’t even FIND one.

I bet the WvW devs could get a lot more ideas from the community if we could either 1) keep WvW suggestions in the WvW discussion, or 2) give us our own suggestion thread so that our suggestions stay in discussion. The suggestions thread for PvE is like a graveyard for ideas in WvW.

Eh, it’s the implementation of Stealth (in this case, it’s really invisibility) that tweaks people.

Then again pretty much invisibility in ANY PvP game ends up frustrating people – that’s just a human factor. This game is no different than others in that regard.

My only gripe is the Stealth off of gate/walls to solo contest keeps.
Kinda cheap in my mind – yes.
Game breaking – no.

It looks like thieves that move on to other professions are the only one being able to kill other thieves with that profession… Stealth is so easy to counter that it isn’t even funny. Thief is the easiest class to predict, really.

Look, you can counter bad thieves pretty easily, I admit that. But even semi-good thieves are hard to fight in WvW. A semi-good thief can make you think they’re moving 1 direction, while somehow managing to go waaaaay off the other direction. A good thief will try to burst you down, and if it fails, stealth / run away to break combat, and then come back when their CD’s are done.

The thing is, in WvW, you guys can break combat so easily its not even funny. All you have to do is trick us once in the direction you’re going, and then move the other direction. You can get a full health bar, regain initiative, and then try again the next time to burst someone down. And many of you do hit that big shiny reset button, then come back to try again. Maybe you’ll get lucky the next time and get 5 crits in a row instead of 3, who knows?

I don’t propose someone nerf thieves to oblivion, though. I will admit that probably 75% of the complaints against thieves are more about the complainer being a glass cannon or not knowing how to fight one. But there is some legitimacy to the complaints in you guys being able to break combat so easily.

Just so you know, I’m not a glass cannon, and I do know how to fight thieves. Bunker d/d ele, and I can either kill bad thieves or ignore good ones.

This is basically my only gripe with them. It’s the fact they can get into combat, step away, or move away and regen really fast and come back with full health. But, it’s not game breaking. The only reason I hate thieves is it seems like a lose-lose most of the time. Either they get a few lucky crits (as a support build mesmer I sit with around 28k health), or they run off and don’t let me kill them :P

I know as a mesmer when I run with stealth (do lay portals, get through enemy lines, etc), having a 1200 range blink+decoy can get me basically past any defensive lines without the enemy even seeing me. Stealth + teleport is a very powerful tool to have.
