I ve tryed scepter only in WvW so far,but the DPS was quite low and those balls which i fire seem to not reach enemy most of time. Also that root is like 2sec?Do you run with it in PvP as DPS guardian, and kill ppl with it?
With hammer i had worst experience, that thing is so unbelievable slow.
I am using both sigils for chill, but 50% of time the swap one procs out of range, and the crit one i barely notice.
I can get to enemy,i sometimes succesfuly pull with GS,but once they start runing i cant hit them anymore.Do i miss here something,or is it just L2P isue?Got my guard just first month, and played only 10-20 matches so far.
Scepter is one of the highest dps weapons for guards. However it takes some time getting use to it. The best advice is treat it like a melee weapon, with the option to use it at range. The auto-attack is very slow, but it hits hard. So the closer you are the better. Hammer is the same thing, it takes awhile to get use to it. Hammer is very strong, I cannot state this enough. It brings decent damage with CC options.
You only play a few matches on guard so it’s going to take sometime. DPS guard is a lot harder to master then people think.

Hands down, it’s one of the best items I’ve spent gems on.

Things that help:
Rune of Speed
Sigil of Hydromancy or Ice
Weapons with CCs and or immobilize. (Hammer and Scepter)

Glacial Heart is one of the worst traits. Nobody runs it in PvP/WvW, let alone PvE…

If you’re roaming solo, then a 0/30/30/5/5 build would work great for you since you want to use one handed weapons.
Just something I put together, you can switch the gear to your liking.

Nothing wrong with either of those builds for the most part. Both are more tankier med builds. I personally like to go more dps when I run meds.
This is the hammer med build I use in tpvp.

I really hope it’s fake, but’s it Anet so you never know. Also they need to fix spirit weapons before adding more. However I really don’t care, I hate AI builds. They’ll just create another mm necro and spirit ranger. These builds are beyond easy to play and too effective.
Heavens Rage
These threads always pop up, and it’s the same thing every time. Yes, AH isn’t needed for PvE, and there are more optimal builds. When it comes down to it just run the build you’re comfortable with. There’s no sense in going full zerker meta build if you just down every second, and can’t handle it.

This thread should be helpful.

Chocolate is pretty cool for costume brawl. Harp is meh.

Yup there is no reason to play soloq for the most part, unless you like Skyhammer (lol). You’re better of just going solo in teamq. Only reason to play soloq is if you care about the leaderboards, and you don’t want to mess up your rating. However leaderboards are a joke overall so that’s a miniscule point.
Heavens Rage
The only time I feel disappointed, is with mesmers and thieves. These 2 classes really contribute the least to conquest mode of play. They cannot hold a node and spend most of their time fighting off point, and even if they try to defend a node, in a 1v1 it will always result in a decap, if anything, just due to their mechanics.
For a mesmer or thief to contribute to conquest in a meaningful way, they really have to excel at their class. Which is unfortunate.
Pretty much this. If the thief is decent then I’m more then happy to have them. However most of the time they are just rallybots. Mesmer is even worst imo. Most run some PU build that is good for nothing.

Guard because someone has to do it. No, but seriously Guard has always been my favorite. Been playing it since launch and I love it. It’s just so well balanced, and a joy to play. Bunker, dps, or hybrid. They’re all viable, and play differently. Only thing missing is a good condition spec!
Heavens Rage
GS is very predictable in any pvp environment. You’re better off going hammer for the most part. MB out dps WW, and is easier to land with a lower CD. It gives you CCs to also keep on target. Sure it doesn’t have as much sustain dmg as GS, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t land it.
Against unskilled or average players GS is good to great, but when you start playing against people that know what they’re doing. You see the faults in the weapon. I love the GS, but it shouldn’t be your main weapon in PvP.
Just my thoughts.
Heavens Rage
Finished my Zealot set! Screen is just standard 0/5/30/30/5, with no buffs. Also using SiN so factor in another 150 toughness.

I’m curious. To the regular sPvP players — do you guys usually get the daily every day? If so, how much time does it take you?
As I understand it, dailies are more or less supposed come automatically if you play that playstyle. For example the 3 WvW dailies (part of the PvE dailies) come pretty effortlessly if you’re a WvW player — and without needing hours upon hours of play.
If sPvP players generally aren’t getting their dailies in a reasonable amount of time, perhaps they should feel cheated by Anet.
(I’m not an AP hunter… I just find the AP hunter threads really fascinating because their playstyle is so different from mine.)
I do my PvP daily before my PvE because it’s quicker. I usually get my daily done in three game, which I’m sure others do to. So probably like 20 to 30 minutes depending on que times.
Heavens Rage
If at 3am noone else is playing, you get people out of your rating.
Pretty much this. I play at off hours just because the way my schedule is. I get a lot of games like these. SoloQ or TeamQ doesn’t matter because nobody is really queing at these times.
Here’s an example just now:

Meditations really don’t benefit from healing power that much. The base heal for meds is already pretty high. The base is 1960, the multiplier is 0.4. So if you have 1000 healing power, its just going to be 2360. However healing power isn’t the main stat of Zealot, so realistically you’ll probably have 500-800 healing power depending on trait lines and rune sets.
Now there are a lot of other guard builds I believe it’ll work wonders for.

Symbol builds are fun because nobody really expects it. They don’t understand that a majority of the damage is coming from them, and they continue to stand in them. This is the one I’m fond of:

Overall warrior is one of the simpler classes to play. It comes down to the build though. If you’re running the standard at least 20 in Defense, Healing Signet, and etc it becomes even easier. However if you’re running a more glassy or unorthodox build then it’s can be more challenging.
Heavens Rage
I think the biggest problem is new players don’t know where to go. I see it all the time in the Mist. First place they go is straight to the tournament master. I even asked a few maybe they should try hotjoin first. They say, “What is that?”
Heavens Rage
Only problem I had was Temple, and its seems to be working fine now
Heavens Rage
You could have hit your dodge key by accident. Dodging interrupts it, and your virtues also don’t recharge.
Heavens Rage
Maybe it’s a little too high, but the problem is the inconsistency of it.
First piece is 3k
Second piece is 6k
Third piece is 9k
So why isn’t it 12k? It jumps all the way to 21k. I agree with other people a full set should be 18k. I’ve have 4k hours played, and been playing since launch. I only have a little over 10k ap.
I’m not an ap hunter, and I don’t care to be. I play the game because I enjoy it. I’m not going to log in every day to grind ap points. If it doesn’t change then whatever. The armor isn’t the best looking anyways.

So we have a lack of players now, and Anet doesn’t want to invest PvP.
And my point.
Even with many players… they still weren’t investing much into PvP.
They where investing a lot into pvp. However it was the wrong thing. All they care about was esports, and they put all their money into that. However they forgot about balance, more game modes, and the basic functions of a pvp game.
Now they realize esports isn’t going to happen, so they’re focusing on the basics of a good pvp game. Which is why this “huge” pvp patch is coming.
Heavens Rage
Lack of players = lack of resources.
Wow…
Millions of copies sold before it even launched… yet the game was lacking players?Sure it’s low on population now… but that’s only because, even with millions playing, Anet couldn’t get anything done.
That’s what I stated in my post,
PvP flopped too hard at the start of the game due to a number of reasons, and there’s no way to recover from that.
So we have a lack of players now, and Anet doesn’t want to invest PvP.
Heavens Rage
However they are a small group with limited amount of resources. So it takes time to fix all the issues we are currently seeing at the moment.
But that’s the real question: why is there a lack of resources? why is class balancing such a low priority?
Lack of players = lack of resources. Majority of their money comes from PvE, after that it’s WvW. So this is were all the manpower and resources go. Why should they keep pumping money into something that isn’t going to make them a profit? That doesn’t make any sense from a business stand point, I really can’t blame Anet because it’s the right move. As of right now Anet is just trying to keep whatever PvP population they have left.
PvP flopped too hard at the start of the game due to a number of reasons, and there’s no way to recover from that. I love pvp in this game, but I know it’s never going to get the attention and resources it deserves.
Heavens Rage
Bunker is easier and safer to play. DPS is high risk, but there’s no high rewards attached to it. Also the conquest game mode doesn’t help the problem either, makes it worse.
Heavens Rage
Bumping since the patch comes out on Tuesday. You guys said it was already fixed, so is it going to be with this patch? Or do we have to wait until LS is over?
Heavens Rage
I do agree gw2 is good. The combat is great, which is why I keep playing it. Balance is ok, I’ve seen a lot worse. Problem is PvP isn’t getting new players because of only one mode, conquest. If PvP had more game modes, it would be better off by a long shot.
Sadly the new modes are coming too late, and they’re just trying to keep the population they have.
Heavens Rage
If guards ever get another damage dealing condition then a pure condition build is possible, until then no. The best thing to do atm is use burning to help supplement direct damage. Think of it as added damage, not the main source.
Heavens Rage
i dont know what people expect, a new map every week?
as for boring, “going strictly pvp” might have something to do with it. mix it up/
Yes mixing it up helps. PvE and WvW are also a lot of fun, I don’t know why so many people shun them.
Heavens Rage
It’s still on the table for the future, but it lives low on the list of priorities so it won’t be making it in anytime soon.
Heavens Rage
This is in regards to Litany of Wrath. I believe the developers are on the right track reducing the CD. However the biggest issue with the skill is Guardians lack the soft and hard CCs to actually do the damage.
So what I propose is let it also add two or three seconds of AoE Chill or Cripple. This gives the Guardian the time to deal such damage. This wouldn’t be op for a number of reasons. Litany of Wrath has a ton of counter play. Blinds, CCs, blocks, and invulnerability.
Heavens Rage
Anet already stated there will be no instant cast healing skills in this game, which is why they are reducing it to 3/4 next patch, maybe lower.
However I do have an idea for it that would help a lot in my opinion. Let it also add three seconds of AoE chill or cripple.

I can’t stand hotjoins anymore. I go in them from time to time. If I don’t feel like playing tpvp or if I don’t really have enough time for a match. After over 1000 soloq matches, I’m just sick of it. Skyhammer, Spirit Watch, 4v5, and etc. We all know the drill.
So that leaves teamq, which really isn’t that bad. Sure you are going to go up against some really coordinated teams from time to time, but it’s still more enjoyable then soloq. Don’t have to worry about any terrible maps. Players in general seem better and are more focused on winning. Most of the time you end up partying with players you meet. Also it rewarding more is a huge plus.
Heavens Rage
(edited by Harbinger.8637)
Pretty standard stuff, but I would recommend changing a few things.
Drop Glacial Heart, this trait is just terrible. Four seconds of chill on a 30 second CD is laughably bad. Also drop Healing Breeze. Longest CD for a heal with no way to trait it. Very wonky to use, and the heal to the allies isn’t even that great.
Last thing would be Master of Consecrations over Consecrated Ground. This way you can use it more frequently, and they last longer.
Heavens Rage
Guard has always been my main, but I also have two level 80 Warriors and a plethora of tpvp matches played on them. For the most part, yes Warrior is better then Guard in the current meta. Like everyone else said, Guard is the most balanced class by far. Warrior on the other hand is on the other end of the spectrum. Guards do bring much better support though.
Warrior or Guard, they are both viable. Just depends on how you want to play.
Heavens Rage
About Greatsword… I know it’s a one trick pony, but I have fun chaining Binding Blade and Judge’s intervention… what do you think, is it a good idea?
There’s nothing wrong with the GS, but it does have it’s faults. Just like any other weapon. It’s very predictable for the most part. However the biggest thing that hurts it is retaliation. If you’re in a group fight, and some one on the opposing team pops a group wide retaliation buff. Then you use WW, you’re going to be in a world of hurt.
If you want to run GS go ahead, it’s far from being a bad weapon.
Heavens Rage
(edited by Harbinger.8637)
I feel the skill gets a bad rap, the biggest problem is the one second cast time, but that is being reduced next balance patch so it shouldn’t be an issue. Players are always try to compare it to SoR, saying you have to do 36,000 dmg to get an equal heal. The thing you have to think about is the CD. SoR has a 32 second cd when traited, and LoW has 24. So it’s a heal with a lower CD with the ability to out heal SoR.
It’s a decent heal, not as good as Shelter. However it’s viable with med builds.
Heavens Rage
Of course a 0/30/30/5/5 is going to have higher dps ouput, I don’t think anyone is arguing that. The reason why people are running 10/5/30/5/20 because it gives you more sustain then the standard med builds. You have to remember AR also buffs the passive affect on Virtue of Resolve, and factor in Retaliation from your Virtues.
Against what though?
There’s no practical application? You lose against a lot of build you would’ve won against (still assuming you’re using good weapons). Backpoint Mesmer you now lose to, Ranger you can’t beat now, Guardian burst will 1 shot you, AH DPS will outsustain you.
You can’t just make a build to make a build, what are you doing that’s different? The only advantage you’d have would be against a Necro with full LF.
If there was no practical application to the build people wouldn’t be running it, and all those counters you mentioned I never have a problem with. Mesmers will go down to any type of med build for the most part. Rangers are the same way. I have yet to have a Guardian one shot me, but I’m sure that’s just a hyperbole on your part. And an AH will not out sustain you because AH isn’t optimal for 1v1.
Just because a new med build comes along that you don’t agree with, doesn’t mean it’s bad or worse then what came before. If it was truly a bad build or not on par with the other builds, nobody would run it, it’s simple as that. Why would I or any other Guard want to run a bad build? However it’s been tested and people have been using it. It works.
