I completely agree.

The game is grindy because people choose to make it that way.

No, the game is grindy because they’ve designed that way. You’re just better at ignoring that fact than some of us.

Nonsense. WoW is a grind. This is as far away from grind as any MMO I’ve played.

And I couldn’t play that game for more than a month or two. Anet’s manifesto was saying things like there’d only be grind for different looking weapons without better stats. You know. Like different dungeon sets or legendaries. Sounded good. Then they noticed that a lot of people used to other MMOs were complaining about a lack of progression and wham. Here we are. It’s not the same game as was released and the manifesto is out the window. That’s cool. I got my money’s worth out of it, but I wish it was still a game I could enjoy.

I think the only thing that goes against that manifesto is the ascended stuff. I’m not sure what else there is? Or are you talking about something else?

I doubt there are many games or at least successful games that are the same game 6 months after release. Like I said, I’ve played lots of MMOs, since vanilla Everquest, in fact, and this is by far the least grindy. And I’m not sure what there is in this game that requires you to grind. We’re back to the need/want thing again. Frankly, I don’t see enough difference between exotics vs ascended to think that somehow I need them. I have them, but I never felt like I had to grind to get them.

Personaly, I don't think Dailies are a good idea

Dailies in this game are far better than any other MMO I’ve played. At least here you get a choice of what you want to do. And MOST of the time, just playing can accomplish them.

I’m in the camp of “if you don’t like it don’t do it.”

Last night, there were 4 of the “just play and you’ll get them” type. The 5th was not so much, so I decided to do the 5 mystic forge uses one. So on a low level alt, I crafted 20 pieces of cloth armor, and then fed them to Zommoros. Ended up getting 2 pieces back that I kept and are in my bag waiting for that toon to level enough to use them. Plus I advanced my tailor skill.

How to get Agony Resistance before FotM 10?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Hoyvin.3241

Hoyvin.3241

Sure its POSSIBLE, but your team will be 1. carrying you 2. you will be burdening them slightly if you die

You do realize it’s how it works at lvl 48? I did the dredge mining suit the other day, the one that requires a double dodge to avoid the agony. No one in the group had enough AR to survive it (and I don’t think there is such a thing as enough AR at this lvl to survive that one at lvl 48), we dodged ALL of his agony shots except for one member of the party, the guy who pulled the levers, he couldn’t really handle it but we pulled through (using insta rez signets, elite banner etc on him).

How is having no AR at lvl 10 burdening your group, you have to learn how to kitten dodge at some point because at lvl 40+ your gear will not help you.
The type of kitten who ask for a minimum AR at 10/20/30 will just get completely steamrolled by 40+.

Asking for any amount of AR for a simple lvl 10 run is inane.

This. Winner winner chicken dinner.

To the OP: You absolutely don’t need AR at lvl 10, and anyone expecting it is a kitten.

1. Don’t downgrade my level and allow me to one-shot lower level mobs. In this way, I would actually feel more powerful as I leveled and would feel like my work is being rewarded.

And makes 90% of the map useless. Pass, thanks. I like it the way it is.

Besides, the current system really is horizontal, given level scaling. At least in a downward direction. You could almost get rid of levels, and it would make zero difference, in the downward direction. Your “level” in the game is sort of an illusion. All you really get is better gear, and more traits and skills.

It works the same in the upward direction in places where you get leveled upward, like WvW. A lowbie in WvW gets pretty much owned by someone who is properly kitted out and a full set of traits.

But now I can’t use them in dungeons or fractals, the place where I feel they were the most useful as we didn’t require specific classes to do specific things. Lots of enemies need to be feared? Why LFG for a necromancer when I could just pop one of my Grawl totems at any moment?

I expect this is exactly why they took them away.

Meh. It’s the internet. You can’t take anything personally here. No worries.

I don’t think there are too many things in the consumables category that are really very destructive, portal gun and spy kits being the worst offenders because they sort of remove the reason for including some unique skills from two specific classes. Seed pods, not so much, though I expect it’s the condition removal aspect and not the water field blast finisher that got them removed.

To both Hoyvin and Healix, can you please provide via Official Forum’s search, ANet news, or even an interview with someone from ANet that proves dungeons were supposed to be designed sans consumable usage?

Of course not. I don’t think it exists. It’s just a suspicion. I certainly didn’t say that I knew anything for sure. Re-read my post. Why so hostile and snarky? But, if they’re working as intended, why ban them?

As far as food goes, they don’t reproduce a player skill, other than the boons they provide. They don’t provide teleportation or stealth and you can’t get a combo off the effects like a healing seed pod. Neither do the dungeon potions that drop.

They tweaked the food and they nerfed or banned the other consumables. Just added 2 and 2 and came up with 4.

Why didn’t they just ban them from dungeons? Dunno. Maybe they re-examined the whole thing and decided they were more trouble than they’re worth.

Dungeons weren’t designed with these items in mind, so they’re not balanced around having them. If you feel you need these items, then you’re either not doing the content at the intended difficulty or you’re not with a balanced group. These items can remove the need for people to actually specialize, in this case into defense/support, or remove the bonuses for bringing other classes. When specialization isn’t needed, the game turns into everyone wanting only the best DPS available, which usually results in 1 class becoming dominant overall.

If you can provide the utility of another class or spec just by using an item, what happens to the other person? They had to sacrifice something to get it, whereas you didn’t. This results in the other person being weaker than you in comparison, so why would you want to bring them. For normal groups, this doesn’t really matter, but when people start to min/max, those classes become useless.

ArenaNet never said that doing a dungeon with 5 of same class would be optimal, especially 5 with pure DPS specs, so don’t expect it to be as easy as running a balanced group. They only said that it was possible, whereas in a normal MMO it’s not even an option.

They could have left them useable and just gone the route of other games and simply put 10 minute to hour long cooldowns on them. They probably thought it was better however to just keep them as fun items and just disable them where they cause the most damage.

Far more succinct than what I said. +1 for you.

The game was supposed to allow 5 Engineers to be able to finish fractals. That was what we were sold, so there should be a way to do it.

Right, you don’t. You still don’t. But when it becomes the meta (I hate that word, but everyone uses it) then something is broken, and I think that consumables were not helping the situation.

I’ve seen more than a couple posts in the past regarding thieves in fractals and because of spy kits, they’re just not needed, and 99% of people who play thieves are kitten and why bother blah blah blah. They take spy kits away, and suddenly everyone is up in arms about the dredge fractal. Now, you still don’t need a thief, but they come in pretty handy.

I think it’s more about the players working through problems with the set of tools their given, and honestly, I think the use of consumables in dungeons is an oversight by A-Net. My guess is that they were never intended to be used in dungeons.

But Hoyvin, by your own argument, why would you need 5 Warriors?

Because, at this point, it does the most DPS of any class. I think for most people, who play the way the game is intended to be played, I don’t think this is much of an issue. It isn’t for me. I run with a small guild and we pretty much bring whichever toon we feel like playing.

I dunno, maybe I’m full of kitten. Just throwing out an idea.

Here’s my take on this:

if 5 warriors (or whatever) take these things into a dungeon then it removes or replaces the need for other character classes. Have a portal gun? What do I need a mesmer for? Have a healing seedpod? Don’t need a ranger healing spring or elementalist healing rain. Spy kit? Don’t need a thief then.

So everyone plays the flavor of the day and relies on consumables for utility.

I also completely agree with the rest of what you’re saying. I would not kick a ranger from my group, solely for the fact that he is a ranger. I’ve already said I think those 4war/1mes zerk only groups are idiotic. I have never kicked anybody from a PUG solely because of profession.

There still is the fact though that certain classes bring more to parties naturally than others. But to your point, skill, communication, etc have more say in efficiency of dungeon.

I don’t think that there is anyone who could successfully deny that, all else being equal, a warrior is better than a ranger. I have both and I generally feel that way myself.

Regardless of dungeon and you don’t know either of them, both of them asked at the exact same time.

The bigger question is, how is it even possible for two people to ask at the same time? Obviously whoever’s name is on top in chat is the person that asked first. There is no hypothetical here, it literally would be whoever asked first.

That’s why it’s called hypothetical. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/hypothetical

Maybe you joined your server’s TS and they both ask on TS at the exact same time. There ya go…. quit ignoring the true point of the question.

Obviously the warrior. But so what?

The real point is this:

I advertize in whichever way, map chat or gw2lfg, doesn’t matter. The first guy to join my group is a ranger. I’m not going to kick him because he’s a ranger even if I get a tell from some warrior right after that. Because the difference is immaterial to me. This is without factoring in player skill, which I can’t know until I’ve played with them some.

I’m not gonna limit who I play with based solely on their class.

In fact, If the warrior had some idiotic name like “Xx Pwnzor xX” or some crap like that, I would pick the ranger.

People keep parroting this rubbish over and over like they saying something deep and clever that others don’t understand. Yes, a good ranger player is better than a bad warrior player…. SO WHAT!? Would you take a good ranger over a good warrior? I dare you to come up with answer that doesn’t insult my intelligence.

Here’s an answer and I couldn’t care less if your intelligence is insulted:

I don’t care. Whoever gets there first gets the spot. My personal happiness doesn’t revolve around getting through a dungeon path in 7 minutes instead of 10. And it certainly doesn’t revolve around treating some other PERSON like dogkitten because their toon doesn’t live up to some ideal like I’ve seen in plenty of posts on this forum.

It’s not deep or clever. It’s not intended to be. So what?

Fair enough, no more snark, I promise =)

I held out a lot of hope for the ranger. I definitely don’t agree with the “4war/1mez zerk only, elite pro only welcome” type of groups. Those just make me laugh.

But I run with a core group from my guild that’s me: mesmer, 2 guardians, and a war. When we get a 5th from the guild, I’m usually really happy if it’s a war, thief, mes, or even ele.

I hate to say it, but I get a little sad if it’s a ranger, especially when we run fotm (why maw, why must you target a dead pet?).

If OP really did intend your original point, then I think this should be in rangers forum or players helping players. Since it is in the dungeon forums, I read it more as “Don’t hate on rangers, we aren’t as bad as you think” and his proof was that he runs pugs all the time. Therefore, I didn’t accept his proof =)

Sure, it probably would be better and hit the right audience if it was in the Ranger forum.

I have a tiny guild of 7 people and we all live in the same town. So we don’t often have to pug. Occasionally we’ll pug for a 5th but not that much. Three of us have rangers that we swap out with regularity. So honestly, we don’t see a lot of the stuff that goes on in pugs.

When we pug, I honestly couldn’t care less what class it is. I reserve judgement until I’ve seen them play. I’ll take a guy that is fun to play with and engages the group even if he’s not that great, over the most efficient zerker warrior that never goes down once, does awesome DPS, but never says a word on chat and bails the minute he loots the final chest.

I’m in it for fun, not to see how many dungeon tokens I can get in the shortest amount of time possible so I can get enough gold and lodestones and crap for my legendary. How is that fun? Play that way if you want, it’s your life, but don’t be a kittenhole about it. (I don’t mean you specifically, just a generic you.) What goes around comes around.

Oooooh, swing and a miss. That should be posted in the rangers forum then.

You can see OP clearly jumps from “I have dungeon master title, I have a warrior I gear up, I have a mesmer I use in open world, I just LFG, to party with me anytime, I’ll do the dungeons”

I’m only anti-ranger because my very first toon was a ranger. I’ve always played a ranger/archer in every other MMO I’ve played and am deeply disapointed with the ranger path they have taken. I know the class well, and know that they don’t bring anything to the party. Some easily destroyed spirits, a stupid AI micro-managed pet, and an aoe regen.

Ok, let’s start over, then. No snark.

Granted, the OP was a little rambling, but I think his primary point can be summed up with a couple of his lines:

“Post on gw2lfg saying warrior mesmer, need to ping gear, blaaa blaa blaaa, I ignore them, still get good groups. Class discrimination? Ignore it. Go for other post. Or post. LFG any path.”

“Ignore the bad paople on gw2lfg.com, find people like me.”

What the guy is saying is to ignore the “zerker warr ONLY” posts and find the ones where people don’t care that you’re a ranger, or an engi, or a necro, or whatever.

Since you’re a ranger at heart and like the class, why be part of the ranger hate? It’s not going to help the ranger get better.

I just don’t get the “as fast as possible” mentality of max DPS to get through a run in a couple minutes faster. I mean, I get the concept, but why be in such a rush? it’s a game.

Well, for starters, I’m absolutely heartbroken you don’t care about me.

That being said, I think the OP’s point is pretty clear even if you missed it, but, judging by your snarky anti-ranger response, I imagine you’re one of the people that the OP was telling other rangers to avoid.

You fail to see why people don’t want rangers in their group, of all the classes, they are the worst. Theres no way around it. They don’t bring anything to the table when it comes to HELPING the group.

No one is saying that rangers can’t do dungeons, they are saying that a different class like a guardian in the same hands is going to be better than a ranger hands down every time.

I did Hotw story last night with a ranger in my group, he had full MF gear and stood in the back auto attacking, he did nothing to help the group as far as boons, or dps or kiting but he made it threw.

The dungeons are easy as most have been solo’d already, but people like going as fast as possible and as easy as possible, you can’t do either with a ranger in your group because there not good at anything. Sorry boss.

Good job missing the entire point.

In terms of WvW, there will be a big patch next Tuesday which will introduce some mechanics that will make you more of an efficient/better rounded player the more successful/dedicated you are in WvW, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you will be stronger than others.

I got about 1600 hours in game and I use my time to amass wealth. It’s my goal, and not many people share it. Other’s like to level up and gear their alts. Other’s like to get full achievements. Other’s like to contribute in WvW and train to become well-respected players/groups/guilds.

is there any point to taking down the big “world bosses”? They seem like awesome fights, but I am wondering if there is a reward for doing so (other than money)

Fun?

If you’re married to a gear grind like WoW, you’re probably going to be disappointed, unless you can get past it.

I have 7 characters, everything but a necro and I play all of them. I find the game tremendously alt-friendly.

I hope it’s legal. My warrior is wearing priory and vigil gear.

Do You Want CoF P1 Farming to be Nerfed?

Buff the end boss to how he was at release, good times.

That would do it. Why even bother with the crystals at all at this point if the max healing stack is what 9? 10?

I would also add to not immobilize, cripple, chill, etc … the boss between the lava bucket spots because if you slow him down too much, he will lose the super heated debuff and will manage to regen. Keep these immo, cripple etc for when he is under the lava bucket to make sure he gets it.

This. Keep him moving. Pets on passive.

This has to be a troll.

The only thing hard about CoF is the path 3 stupid path with the glowing orbs. I hate that freakin thing.

The Living Story - far too vague.

Since the start of this living story I have felt like someone who is reading every tenth page of a novel. Sure, I vaguely understand what is going on, but in practice it feels disjointed and random.

I didn’t read the whole thread. I just wanted to add my +1 to this sentiment. I really would like to get into it and follow it, but I just don’t know what’s going on and there’s no real hook to get me to care.

You’re dropping the ball on this one, A-Net. Cool idea that seems to be poorly executed. FWIW.
