Personally I put melted cheese on my forehead and pray to Odin before I salvage items, they say that helps your chances at getting ectos.

I’m going to have to start doing that. Which cheese is considered the most efficacious? Can I substitute a god from another mythos? I’ve always been more partial to Zeus.

I’m not sure how you force a substandard build (whatever that even really means) on someone that doesn’t want to accept it in his party. If this isn’t a troll, if you started your own group and advertized that, you’d probably get some takers. There seem to be a lot of people on these boards saying the same thing.

I have a tendency to use “optimal” builds, because I hit harder, not form any sense of obligation to anyone else. To be fair, I run with a group of 4 others so I don’t have the issue that others have trying to pug. However, when we’re short one of us for whatever reason, we are never picky about who we take as a pickup. If you want to spam #1 on a scepter guardian, more power to you. Many people are grateful on not getting kicked. We’re confident enough in our own ability (which isn’t superhuman or anything) where any DPS you add is just extra. Not sure I’d do this on a run in Arah or a high level fractal, but for anything else, why not.

I’m not sure I understand this pathological need for the “optimal” group. Yeah, I get that you want to try to be efficient and all that, but for me, this is first and foremost a game, and once I start getting anal about “optimal” and “efficient” I’ve lost sight of that.

I just don’t get the need for some people to get kittenty when someone else isn’t playing the way they think they should. And I’m not interested in a CoF P1 speed run (I’ve been gone for 6 months that was the meta back then, not sure if it still is) where you get kicked because you took 5 seconds too long to down some mob or whatever.

Sorry, I don’t want to waste time running from place to place. I already do enough of that in the real world.

And “That Other Game’s” travel isn’t any better. In fact in many ways it’s worse. You log out on one continent and the next day your friends are on another continent and not even close to your hearth location, so it takes 15 minutes of flying/ship-riding to get to them. How is that better?

If you want to run everywhere, have at it. Don’t require that I do the same.

Fewer waypoints in a map I would support, but I’m not interested in mounts or running everywhere.

So I and a couple friends came back this week after like a 6 month hiatus. On the 9th to be exact. We see the whole toxic tower thing or whatever and the Fractal Fortnight event and plan on doing the Tower over a couple nights, then getting the Flactured achievements. Then the patch on the 10th came.

Sorry. Nope. You can do the little solo end thing to inject the antitoxin and bring the tower down. But to be honest, I had no idea whatsoever of why I was doing the things I was doing. I got an achievement and some 3 color key trophy that I have no idea what to do with. Got a cool backpack skin for my Asura Engi that I hardly ever play, even before I stepped away form the game.

GW2 is probably my favorite MMO, and I’ve played a lot of them. And when the LS came out I thought it was a cool idea. Now I’m pretty much meh on the subject. It’s like: don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

How is that a good thing? Because it’s different? That’s your argument?

How is this a bad thing? Do you need someone telling you what to do your whole life? Even in a game?

In the future, If I was you, I wouldn’t spend money on something that isn’t 100% guaranteered. Supposedly, there is a 1.8% chance of getting those tickets from the cash shop coffers, just think about it.

Isn’t that what I just said? Twice? I’m not supporting this money making vehicle again. Hopefully my posting this will convince people who don’t already think this is a bad idea.

In fact, it’s probably going to be quite a while before I buy another gem for real cash.

Again, I’m not complaining, I can afford it, and of course it’s my fault. I’m not suggesting otherwise, or trying to blame A-Net. This is why I don’t go to a casino. I don’t know why I thought this should be any different.

Just trying to provide some feedback.

And yet you say ""Fool me once" and all that.".

I’m not sure that this topic hasn’t already been hashed and rehashed and warmed over too many times, but I thought I’d present my take on RNG boxes, and dragon coffers in particular, so A-Net could hear the take of a guy that buys too many gems and is a regular contributor to their paychecks.

I’ll put the TL;DR up here towards the top the top:

I’m not spending another dime on RNG box type items.

For those interested in the reasons, here they are:

I spent $200 on gems (yes, I’m an idiot, but generally only once, which you can read above) to try to get a token so I could get the dragon shield skin.

Two. Hundred. Dollars.

Guess how many tokens I received? Zero. Squat. Bupkus. I bought 150, maybe 175 of the rich dragon coffers. Not to mention the oodles of regular ones I opened.

Zero tokens.

A guildie, and guy I work with, had 3,200 gems, which were already on his account, however many rich dragon coffers that buys, got four, plus one from a regular.

Yes, I understand it’s RNG. This is not a rant about how RNG works. It’s not a rant at all, though it may seem like it. This is simply a statement for the benefit of the developers of this game, from a guy that is a shade south of fanboy and has spent a kitten-ton of real cash in the gem store. I’ve played MMOs since vanilla Everquest, and GW2 has been my favorite of the bunch. That being said, I will never spend another nickel on something that does not guarantee me that item for which I’m spending that real money to acquire.

Thanks for listening.

Why on earth would you play a bad game?

You can make any game a grind, but I’ve never felt like I was grinding in GW2. Why not? Because I don’t feel a need to do it. Why in hell would anyone play a game they thought was bad?

Seriously.

I don’t get the whole “GW2 is a grind.” It certainly doesn’t have to be. If you think it’s a grind, you’re making it one.

Hoyvin.3241

I really hope that they make the scavenger difficult and long enough that players will still think that the 600g or so to buy some precursors is a suitable alternative.

i.e. includes:
-10,000 WvW kills
-90 laurels
-50 guild commendations
-dungeon master
-50 SPvP Tourneys

+ a whole list of scavenger item requirements that can only be acquired through beating tough bosses, acquired at different times at the day, and through solo and team work.

No to guild commendations.
-Not everyone is in a guild.
-Not everyone wants to be in a guild
-Not everyone that is in a guild is in a large enough guild to acquire this.
-Not everyone that is in a large enough guild has the desire to do guild missions at all.
-Not every guild does guild missions, even if they can.

Absolute no to guild commendations. If I dont want to do guild missions, thats how I want to play…i.e. the whole theme of the game. So don’t force me to do that.

I don’t disagree, but people would squawk about the WvW requirement, too. I think a system like they have for dailies and monthlies where you pick 4 out of 6 or whatever would be better.

We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.

It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.

We do also want to maintain that chance you could get lucky and earn one earlier through random drops, so when we add the new system we will not remove the current one to ensure players have multiple ways to gain the items. Also with the upcoming update to WvW, there will be a chance players can earn precursors from the WvW rank reward chests as well.

Great idea. Hopefully soon.

The problem is excessive major CC. Like the 30k hits from somewhere in the particle blur, spammed major CC by enemy mobs is not a player skill issue. These are both mechanics that negate skill-based play, not require it. Removing cheap mechanics is the first step toward rewarding and challenging end-game content.

On one of the pages of that “How is getting rid of Cantha…” topic the developers said that they will love to work on Cantha for GW2 again. The fact that there will be no Cantha was entirely speculation based on the fact that there are no Canthan buildings in a Krytan city. There are still some Asian NPCs and you can still state that your character is from Cantha in your personal story. Don’t talk about “will be” or “won’t be” when we don’t know yet.

I honestly don’t care one way or the other about Cantha, whether it does or does not ever get into GW2, that wasn’t the point of my original argument. I haven’t stated it either will or won’t. That’s not the point. If my grasp of the Cantha “situation” is wrong, then there are other examples. Lets just, for the sake of argument, say that I’m right. It could be a legendary left handed monkey wrench that we’re talking about, and not Cantha. The example is irrelevant to the point.

The whole point is: Arenanet is a wholly owned subsidiary of NCSoft, and as such is subject to the wants needs and/or whims of it’s parent company. That’s all. If NCSoft tells ANet to do something, it must comply. It has no choice. I make no implications of the relationship that exists between the two organizations.

But if you "If my grasp of the Cantha “situation” is wrong, then there are other examples." and that the base of your point of view then you need to changes your point of view. That just simple logic. Also i would like to know what other examples you would use?
Everyone is a subsidiary of something bigger then it when it comes to gaming. These business make a living picking up game makers to make games for them.

I obviously haven’t made my point very well, so I think I’m done. But with this last thing: the example is irrelevant. It could be entirely made up: i.e. Legendary Left Handed Monkey Wrench. NCSoft wants it, ANet doesn’t. Guess what: LLHMW is in game.

I was addressing those posters who think “ANet should go it alone” or “ANet should tell NCSoft to butt out.” My point was, they can’t. That’s it.

That said, I’m done.

Somewhere in Kansas is a guy making a living doing taxes for a bakery or restaurant.

That doesn’t mean I want to have to files gold taxes with NCSoft to level cooking.

One thing does not relate to another. And yeah – it exists out there in the real world somewhere, but keep it out of our MMO.

Just implying that “I can’t see anyone anywhere liking it” is a pretty broad brush considering something like Las Vegas exists. It’s pretty conclusive proof that lots of people like gambling. Not implying that I do or don’t, or that you’re wrong for not wanting it, you’re entitled to have your opinion be heard, just that there are plenty of people who love it. If there wasn’t, arguing about RNG in the gem store would be academic.
