2 issues I have are with Solo Queue these:
1.) The Glicko 2 system that is currently used still puts people together of wildly varying skill levels. I think a big part of that is the rankings are account wide. I may be lights out good on a few classes but that doesn’t mean my Thief is good. The system needs to rank you per profession. If you re-roll toons, you still should be ranked the same on that profession.
2.) The class variation is way off. I don’t know how many times I have seen 3 of one class on a team versus 3 of another class. Or 2 of one class and 2 of another.
Skillful play should still be rewarded even if you lose. Especially in Solo queue. The points for matches in Conquest need to be reworked so that the whole goal for players is keeping cap points.
You guys know this, but man do we need new modes.
Gold reward is cool and all, but getting everyone to donate to Hobo-Tron every 8 minutes isn’t. Sure, you get nice loot, but you repay a good chunk of it to do the event again.
I bet John Smith knows(ArenaNet Economist). If they want to do a really interesting live stream, they need to give him an hour to talk shop. Why’s stuff like this so rare? What was the economic decision behind not bringing back the Aetherized weapons as drops in the Bazaar? Why is loot not dropping more regularly in the Pavilion?
Just give me checkbox options to queue for. On the arenas screen put an options button… Within those options list the maps.. I can put a checkmark for the ones I like, not for the ones I don’t. The system doesn’t match me in game with maps I don’t like.
Doesn’t seem difficult.
Won’t work. You’d get a bunch of people solo queuing one map and rank farming. A bunch of peeps would pick a single map and only queue for it and play red win or blue win.
About the crown pavillion:
Boring and Dull, No point in doing it other than the achievements, Lots of time consuming for absolutly no reward other than a chest that gives something like 2 iron ore or something, feels like a bad joke.About the festival:
It was fun for a while, quickly lost it’s point too, after only 2 days I got all the achievements to get 1 milion tokens that enabled me to get everything I could ever want from the rewards and still have like half a milion to annoy me and fill inventory. The 2 events get boring really quickly again with no reward to compensate for it.It’s just my opinion… I stoped playing for like a few months to give it a break since it was only about doing fractals to get gear to do more fractals to get more gear, and after coming back 1~2 days of new content and then back again to the fractals…
I say this as a way of giving feedback to help the game improve, however it seems that every patch just gets duller and duller. This game needs something other than just going around on a zerg feeling completly useless and just spaming auto-attacks…
Like I said up top, I really like the idea of having small groups take down content and trying to kill each boss at around the same time and under a certain time limit. It’s a cool approach. I loved the Marionette fight. The problem with this one though is that The Pavilion existed before as a shower of looty goodness. Where’d all the rewards go? People that went in there last year are thinking “zerging lootfest!” For good reason too. Forget getting in a good instance if you have a guildy or friend afk in an instance as well. It throws you in there and people don’t feed the hobo-tron for good reason and then it takes 30 mins to down all the bosses.
I think it’s a nice idea…
but, if it’s anything like ranks you’ll be getting qq threads about how it takes too long to get
That’s why you add more tiers in. Going from being rewarded with a title very often early on to being rewarded once every six months because the progression took so long at higher tiers is a poor way to do it. Long progression with lots of tiers, titles, and rewards. That’s engaging. Getting to a high tier and having 5x the length added to the next tier isn’t good motivation. It’s like getting all the feathers in Assassin’s Creed and getting a hammer that is awful. If I put in the time I want to be rewarded.
I know this has been brought up before, but I’m bored. Here are my ideas on expanded class based titles for wins, as well as an expanded “slayer” title track for kills in spvp. Both are long-term based to give a cosmetic carrot to go after for pvp players.
Should be retro-active, even if that means a few players will already have a few of them. The “Elite” moniker is not mine and has been suggested by players in the past.
I am all about the gist of your suggestion. I think more tiers in between the first and second tier is a good thing. I like lengthy progression systems if they aren’t too spread out. I want to be rewarded regularly along a lengthier path.
I really like your color coated chart, but I don’t like you wasting company time doodling. Get back to work! :P

These are interesting takes on this new update. I thought I would share them here because A.) They are writers and can express things better than I, and B.) I generally tend to concur with BioBreak on all points. Same for KTR. Ravious always hits the nail on the head. Well mostly. Verene makes some points I didn’t think about but thought it was worth including because Syp included it as a link on his blog.
My two cents? I feel like this event and Halloween last year both took steps back. You took events that were considered some of the best and then watered them down. Backwards is never a great direction to go. The first Pavilion and the first Halloween showered players with rewards like a festival should. This year’s Pavilion and last year’s Halloween has seen players leave after they get the achievements.
The first time around, both events stayed full for the duration. We were getting Gem Store drops the first Halloween. I thought only shady dudes on street corners say, “The first one’s free”. I guess not.
I think the idea is a cool one, but because it’s the Pavilion and people have a preconceived notion of what to expect in there, it’s disappointing when the rewards get cut more than in half. I think introducing that type of 6-boss-split-up-and-kill-em-quick thing should have been introduced in a fully new setting and people would have responded better.
In a previous thread, I called Hobo-Tron’s gold collection to kick off the Boss Blitz, “arbitrary” https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/fotfw/Hobo-Tron-Donation-Suggestion/first#post4047133. Syp calls it “brazen”.
Take your pick.
(edited by Iason Evan.3806)
I don’t like voting on what does and what doesn’t get added. You’ll always have disappointed people and thus it’s not the best way to let us choose things.
Fair enough, but that doesn’t change the fact that we aren’t donating gold. ArenaNet is using it as a gold sink. I am just saying it would be nice to have said gold sink actually do something other than just plainly being a gold sink.
So 60-70 people donate 10g to get 8 Champ bags? My bad, there is no way that all 70 people are donating. No thanks. Oh, and it isn’t donating. It’s an arbitrary gold sink. Then when you get the item for the weapons in there when you are done with the meta, you get to spend another 6-10g or so. That isn’t a reward.
We have now donated money for events a few times. We don’t really get to see the fruits of those donations. Sure, LA will get fixed, but it’s gonna get fixed whether or not people do the Pavilion Event or not (I see most people stopping after they get the Achievements but that is a topic for a different day).
My suggestion is this: When we donate money in the future, let us vote on 5 or so different things that we want our donation to go towards. That way we get to affect what’s getting added. For example: Let’s say for the Pavilion Event, we could pick between five different things to add to Lion’s Arch. The two things out of the five that get voted for the most get added to Lion’s Arch. The way it stands now feels like being shown how the sausage is made because it’s plainly an arbitrary gold sink. There is no masking it or even an attempt to mask it. That doesn’t feel right.
When you give us options it actually feels like we are voting on what content is being added.
What do you guys think?
There has been a lot of talk recently about the lack of rewards of the game in general. I often feel this effect myself. But I continually ask myself. Am I just not seeing the rewards I am actually getting. Is the game actually rewarding me or is the loot really that bad. To help me determine if the loot is really that bad I ask myself a few questions.
1.) What do I consider a good reward? How often should I feel rewarded.
2.) Should time or difficulty dictate how I am rewarded.
3.) How much gold per hour should I expect to earn from selling loot and drops?
4.) Is my perception of my reward influenced by a goal I am aiming for?
5.) Perhaps my magic find is too low.
First off: Great post. Lemme try and answer these the best way I can.
1.) I just want to be consistently rewarded. Halloween the second year paled in comparison to the first year in terms of rewards. We were getting gem store drops the first year. You never want to take a step back. The rewards in the zerg area and the omission of the Mad King fight made it lackluster. The same can be said for the Pavilion this year as opposed to last year. Steps back and a lack of consistency.
2.) Both. I don’t mind spending a great deal of time doing something as long as it’s consistent with the rest of the areas of the game in terms of gold and loot.
3.) I think 3-5 gold is good. PvP is really nice now. I actually prefer doing PvP to PvE now.
4.) Sometimes. Farming used to be a viable way to go out and mindlessly have fun with friends in small groups. That was replaced with Champ farms. Dungeons were always nice. It seems that ArenaNet has focused farming down to a few different activities. Not getting drops in the Pavilion while playing this year — when we were getting rewarded heavily last year — is a step in the wrong direction. Sure, the boss fights are more fun, but not only are the rewards less rewarding, we have to pay money to participate. No thanks
5.) My Magic Find is at 150%.
I liken this year’s version of the Crown Pavilion to last year’s version of Halloween. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. People like to zerg if they are making gold. As it stands, I may or may not join in for achievements and when that is done I won’t step in again. If we were getting drops on a regular basis like last year, then I would do it. What’s the incentive once the achievements are done? Drops are how you keep interest up for 2 weeks.
Also, the weapons in there are 10 gold plus the item. Where’s the 10 gold from the zerg fest? You basically are treating it as a gold sink without offering me any gold for doing the event you created. Very disappointing.
I am not as concerned with the delivery of said content as much as the type of content. I want permanent regions added. Not just a zone or two, but quite a few new, permanent maps. I want armor and weapons I can earn. I am not talking about farming gold in the most efficient manner then converting said gold to gems and buying an armor set off the gem shop. I am talking about an armor set that represents what it is I did to earn it. That is one of the things that has been taken out of the game that makes an RPG what it is. Does that mean I won’t buy armor sets off the gem shop? No! I still do buy stuff off the gem shop with great frequency, but options have never hurt anything.
Mounts are so pointless in a game like this.
I got my first in Mystic Forge a year ago in Feb. My second one was in a chest in CoF about a month later. My third was about 5 months after that in the MF.
RNG.
The real issue? ArenaNet spending over a year talking about giving us a pre-cursor system and then quietly getting rid of the idea and also not adding in new Legendaries.
I love people who complain about silly issues.
For starters lets get this out in the open,
1 : Turret push back trait makes turrets HURT when they explode. Quite a bit. For starters don’t stand next to 3 of them when you kill them.
2: Next off turret engi has with healing turret only 2 condi’s cleansed every 15 seconds. That’s not good. Any HALF DECENT condi engi or necro can beat them. If you are an engi or necro and are complaining then get out of denial cause you need to l2p. Really bad.
3: get over the stand on point non-sense. Any hambow can use longbow f1 ( don’t give me the crap about reflecting it learn to aim. the radius is ridiculous) and arc arrow to do major damage. ( maybe AI turrets should be affected by conditions like spirits and spirit weapons etc….)
4: THEY HAVE NO STUN BREAKER.
5: limited to no damage if turrets are dead. Like really really bad.
6: Points tick once every 2 seconds. If they full cap and live for say 20 seconds they scored 10 points. Cool they were effective except they are on spawn for 15 seconds + 15 seconds to come back to point. You got 5 for killing them and 5-10+ by full capping ( how long can you hold the point?)
7: THEY HAVE 0 STAB REMOVAL the only reason the old decap was viable was massive boon strip. This build is crap because a bunch of noob engis thought due to old success this may still work. It doesn’t. Use stab for gods sake. Or learn to dodge/evade/blind ( seeing as he has 0 condi removal blind powder/smoke bomb work well)
8: Get a team mate to help you. With 2 people ( or if you actually bothered to run condi engi or necro) it isn’t hard. Don’t expect fairness in this game I can easily roll a 1v1 build and with some skill roll your back point repeatedly. Hell I can argue shadow trap is far worse offender. Quit complaining.
They’re so tanky that they don’t need to kill anyone. They just knock you back and easily cap the point. The engi’s job isn’t to kill but to sit on the point while CC’ing them off.
While I don’t agree that Engies are OP, the problem people have is with Conquest, not Engies. An Engie that doesn’t have a cap point doesn’t really have anything. I think there are viable builds for every class. Isn’t that the point? Waiting for other game types is like watching paint dry though. GW2=The EEEE-est of sports.
Current meta: Boring to play or boring to watch or both?
Everyone has different answers. If I was a dev I would be stoked on this. I think some of the posters here feel that if they die to someone it isn’t their fault, but the fault of the class that beat them. Sometimes you just get outplayed. All you can do is offer a “gg” and go on to the next match.
Hambow
MM necro
Spirit ranger
Bunker guard
AoE spamm engiSitting on a point and mashing 1 button. Im talking about Solo Q please dont bring the lame ToL excuse. Im playing against the same specs everyday, every hour. This is what you see and nothing else.
And as I main warr, even if I play GS warr, honestly any warr/guard /necro/engi build is pretty faceroll no matter what weapons you use. It just so lame fighting such fail builds over and over. I think its time to bring down the meta it will never dissapear by itself without massive nerfs.
You should not be able to sit on a point and contest it kitten forever. Power meta? Nan , everybody still plays the tankiest possible crap.
I think Id rather fight mesmer AI over a spirit ranger or tanky hambow that will take 3 hours to kill. Its not an l2p issue, I can kill any of those specs in 1v1, the problem is that its lame, boring and not fun fighting such builds.
Solo Q is worse than wvw I think or just the same. Pressing 11 in a zerg or pressing 1111 while sitting on a node is basically the same thing. The builds I listed above are top spvp Solo Q builds , you only need to press 1 button or 2 if you are pro.
If you are that good play an off meta build. Come up with a build of your own design that isn’t meta and use skill to defeat those players that you say are winning but don’t have any skill. That should be its own reward, right? Defeating a player with no skill who is winning because the game devs designed combat to be so easy that even a monkey could win? You wouldn’t derive gratification from that? Run a trap/poison master ranger.
I’m tired of the whining.
I made a thread about this very thing. The removal of the Mystic Forge is really odd because it is arguably way more useful than it was before. The things we get in PvP now have gold value. Taking the Forge out after that change is terrible. Most stuff ArenaNet gets right. The lack of amenities for PvP players in regards to vendors is awful. 2 steps forward, 1 step back.
The E-Est of sports.
Totally agree. If there is one thing that GW2 has taught me it is that you need a sub to have a decent game experience.
I will never play a game without a sub again after this one. It had such potential but was ruined by the gem store.
good thing I treat the gem shop like a gold shop then so it doesn’t ruin my experience. most of the time i just ignore it.
@CaptnRio: I have a good reason why the Queensdale champ farm is a good thing. New players in that starting map see a ton of activity in the map and map chat and it makes the world feel alive. Most players don’t care what theya re doing as long as there are a lot of people to do it with. They are Bartle Test “Socializers”.
There is no thing that can turn players off faster than seeing a dead starter zone. Most people in MMOs roll humans when that option is available (which is always) so it makes perfect sense to make a starter area a farming zone.
Not getting an anoouncement today does really mean we won’t be getting any new content until June at the least. They always do a preview two weeks before meaning the earliest new patch would be June 3rd. Bummer.
In the future blu I would suggest laying a rule down about rage quitting costing you an entry in the next tourney. It’s extremely bad for the game.
Good Fights rage quits. I’m bummed about this. So much for ambassadorial actions to grow the game. This very thing is a microcosm of what is wrong with the pvp attitude in this game.
I think the point; to coin a phrase here in America is, “Just win, baby!”. .
I don’t think you could be more wrong tbh. NA are the kings of YOLO comps. That’s why EU did bunker meta so much better; they play to win through out rotations on whatever works best; not through outplaying people on ‘their’ builds.
NA ain’t playing EU though. If a double Hambow team wins the NA ToL then I was right. If they don’t then you are right. It comes down to using the comp you feel is best or are more comfortable with. Even the EU champions said that. Opinions yo.
I think the point; to coin a phrase here in America is, “Just win, baby!”. It doesn’t matter what you run as long as you do that. Can’t criticize teams for bringing whatever they think is the best option to the team. If that’s two Hambows and getting a win out of it, then you picked right. If you want to criticize the build that ArenaNet provided, then do that. Don’t critique players for utilizing something that works. All’s fair in love and war.
It’s seems these gold sellers have bypassed security measures that were remarkably good for the greater part of a year. The gold sellers are as bad as the first 3-4 months of the game. I have not seen as many bots, but I don’t PvE as much as I used to. Heck, there was gold seller spam on the EU ToL this last weekend. It’s rampant.
Because the only thing PvPers hate more than each other are bots.
Showing the ranks is counterproductive to a friendly and helpful player environment.
Sounds like a cliche but it’s true.
And after each match we should give the losing team a hug to make them feel better. Trophies for everyone yay!
You are missing the point or don’t care. People were always raging if they got someone who was of low rank on their team.
Personal scores are arbitrary as well.
The leaderboards are too volatile.
Until it’s fixed they may as well hide the ranks so new players can play in peace. No one deserves derogatory hate speech flung at them after a match.
The reason that this doesn’t exist in PvP is because it’d completely invalidate certain system in PvE. Completely full inventory? Just take your free port to HotM, deposit your crap, take your free port directly back to where you were in PvE, and continue on your merry way.
Btw, they’ve said basically what I said above before as a reason. I’m not sure if they have changed their mind or rethought their position since then.
Just charge a waypoint cost to the mists. It’s not rocket science. PvPers would not be affected because they don’t leave the Mists. You also wouldn’t get this huge influx of PvE players because there would be a waypoint cost associated with traveling there. PvPers shouldnt be expected to have to map a few times to do their banking/BLTC/Guild stuff.
It’s either that or attach the stinkin Mists map to the regular map so we can map to exactly where we want to go.
No the reason initially was everyone would teleport to the mists for free to go use the bank and they didn’t want that but the counter to that now is, everyone is teleporting to the mists to get the new traits now so….. whatchaganadoaboutdat?
It’s real simple. You charge a waypoint fee to go to the Mists. PvP only players wouldn’t have to deal with this as they are always in The Mists anyways. PvPers shouldn’t have to warp away to use a bank and then warp back.
There needs to be a Forge, Bank, BLTC, and Guild Amenities. Taking the Forge out and not adding that stuff was ill advised.
This is the non-boss Fractal, yes? I’ve been experiencing this too. Good to know it’s not just me.
Correct. The amount of loot in the chest is not up to snuff with the other Fractals.
I think Rangers are in a good place for PvP. I think stuff needs to get moved around like traps etc. but if you look at top teams, most have a Ranger on them and for good reason. The place that Rangers are poor in are PvE and WvW. The issue is that if they “fix” Rangers for those formats they will become way overpowered for PvP. This is why skill splits are a good way to go for this class.
Stop buying gold and other services and you won’t get hacked.
Want to play safe? Play legit.
Yup. It stinks too because if everyone stopped cheating and didn’t give these people money anymore they wouldn’t sell gold in our game and no accounts would be hacked. It would be Guild Wars Utopia :P
Pic 1 is the start of the match. Everyone got booted and the Blue player and I were the only ones that tried to get back in. We 1v1’ed for half of it til I got someone on my team before he did and by that time it was too late.
Disconnects are a persistent and frustrating issue. 4v5’s in sPvP are a rampant issue that I know for a fact Allie(before she departed) conveyed along with hundreds of players to the dev team. I just want to reinforce our concern as a community about this.
Bad players… lol can’t blame that one on Anet…
Yeah, you can. There is no tutorial, or integrated and progressive arena’s. Your first experience is hotjoin. Hotjoin, although fun and serving a purpose, doesn’t lay down any ground work. Most games will instruct you on what the rules, but not how to win. PvP just throws you in with no instruction..let alone concepts on how to win.
Each profession suffers terrible confusion as to what their purpose or design is. Is there any reason to take an engineer over a necro?, a Ranger or a thief?. It doesn’t help with statements such as, “Ele is the king of versatility..” are made, then a few months later the exact same call is made about engineer. In order to do a good job, first of all a craftsman must have good, well maintained tools. You wouldn’t use a chisel when trying to saw, you wouldn’t use a plane when try to lathe..get where I am going with this? The notion of all profession can play how they like is understandable in a game where PvE is mostly done solo, but in PvP professions need purpose. No craftsman will ever become good if the only tool they use is a swiss army knife.
Thank you for putting into words what I couldn’t. The first step to fixing PvP is the mentioned tutorials. The other is skill splits. That way you give identities to classes in PvP and still allow WvW and PvE to have their “play how you want” style.
I think you guys have to look at this as the foundation. They will do things on top of it. They are in a no win situation though. People wanted harder content so they gave us Teq./Wurm/Marionette. People on smaller servers complained that they couldn’t do it. They introduce megaserver tech to combat it and now people want less people. They literally can not win. You as players can win though by doing group instanced content of which there is plenty.
Do I think we need new zones/dungeons/Fractals/and 8-12 man instanced content. I totally do.
If you want the stuff you are asking for you can head to like Brisban and do stuff there with your guildies. There are still events off the beaten path that will assuage those desires for less people.
doooooo eeeeeeet!
Every time I get the Molten Furnace Fractal that chest contains some number of fractal relics, 1 agony infusion and 1 blue. I’d be annoyed but hey, it’s a really easy fractal and I mainly do FOTM for the chance at ascended chests/fractal skins.
I agree that it is a breath of fresh air to get that one as it’s really straight forward, but that doesn’t change the fact that the chest is not working as intended. It needs to get fixed.
I get what you are saying bhag, but if you are just arbitrarily watching that purple bar go up, then why not make alts and play PvE and watch the arbitrary yellow bar go up?
I know you play for fun, but if it’s not fun anymore, then take a break yo! Play WvW for fun til they do something with PvP to add in another false sense of progression. Ranks in PvP are really only the XP of PvP. Until they fix the way players are grouped in solo, the leaderboards don’t mean a thing.
I know you said you think you’d be at a disadvantage in WvW, but getting your level up on sounds like the thing you like and WvW has that in spades.
The sad thing is I find PvP incredibly fun but like I mentioned, that’s not why I play an MMO. For me, fun is an awesome benefit and one that will make me choose one game over the other all other things being equal. But the primary motivation is character progression.
I really wish now that I had devoted time to WvW instead of PvP. I have four lvl 80 alts and since I like the adrenaline rush of PvP and I could also play alone, I found it to be much more satisfying than running around breaking doors. Had I known however, that Anet would strip PvP progression I would never have wasted my time. Just imagine what rank I could have reached by now
I hear you man. I think really the progression will be in the reward tracks that they add hopefully every two weeks or every month. I like that style of reward more than I like it taking 2 weeks to gain one rank(level) in PvP. Progression speed in PvP did not line up time sink wise with how it was in PvE and WvW. That needed to change. Being rewarded more often is a change I welcome. Between PvE and Pvp I have most of the skins unlocked already but I play purely because I enjoy the game. We all have different reasons for playing. I get that. I would also like to see them add emotes as rewards and new finishers etc. I think PvP is in a much better place than it was 2 weeks ago. Queues are non-existent now. That to me is WAY better than before.
I get what you are saying bhag, but if you are just arbitrarily watching that purple bar go up, then why not make alts and play PvE and watch the arbitrary yellow bar go up?

My LFG, my rules. Abide or get kicked, it’s that simple.
I ping my zerk gear but wear equally skinned clerics.
died
^Heap laurels on this dude’s head!
Solution Suggestion: Open up more waypoints in each map that used to be closed all the time.
My guild is having issues getting all of us in the same map to do guild missions even though all of us are repping the same guild. It seems to me like the guild you rep should be the highest priority in getting in the same instance.
There are waypoints in maps that could totally be left unlocked now that would make it easier for us to get around. If the tech changes, then the way waypoints work should change as well. Double mapping is a small annoyance, but it is annoying nonetheless.
Like I said: Rotating the boxes solves this issue, you would earn 3 armor pieces per weapon instead of the opposite, which is far more logical as you need less weapons than armorpieces.
^this makes the most sense.
It amazes me how expensive it is to gear up a new 80 or just change your build around.
This game has become one massive gold sink.
I don’t notice that to be the case at all. Exotics are still way cheaper than they were even 6 months after launch. It used to cost a whole lot more to gear a character. With shared Ascended items, it’s even less money actually.
ArenaNet saying, “Play how you want” should be “Play how you want and get rewarded 1 time per day”.
It worked for Henry Ford when he said, “Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black.”
This game doesn’t have a sub so I don’t mind the “dungeon locks”. It’s games that have subs that have raid locks that tick me off. It’s akin to subbing to Netflix and them telling you that you can only watch a certain number of movies per week.
