I also can’t interact with the mortar at all. I am unable to relog on the ice, when I log back in I find myself in Lion’s Arch. Very frustrating.

Maybe try with a different character or try another spot on the floor (I don’t think it’s ice). I’m not sure why you are ending up in LA, but I’ve only seen one other report of that happening; everyone else ends up in the water.

The acquisition methods are inconsistent. As Inculpatus cedo said: some give 1 reward/account, some 1x/character, and some pieces are random drops from killing the big vine or from lost bandit chests.

Ok, that explains what I was running into.

The only reason I can see for the delay is to get people to log in more often. Really pathetic that Anet has to go to those lengths to meet their shiny numbers.

Or it’s a bug, since the other JPs don’t have this issue.
(The reason the T6 and some rich metal mines have it is to protect the economy; otherwise, be too easy to spam such nodes.)

It’s not likely to get people to logon more often, as the rewards are too low to make it worth the time (plenty of other things people could do to earn that much with less effort).

Never ascribe to conspiracy that which is adequately explained by incompetence (or bugs).

Nope. Take this as a lesson, a very costly one.

What kind of lesson is this though? Don’t trust GW2? Only keep one hand on the keyboard/mouse at a time when using TP? Always have an adult present when using TP? There’s nothing for me to learn here m8

The lesson is to not click “sell” before entering the price you wanted. I’ve made some doozy mistakes on the TP, but I have yet to come close to selling something potentially worth over even 10g for that little.

You can try any of the following, which I find fun alone or in smaller-than-expected groups:

  • Dungeons — most story mode and many explorable mode dungeons can be solo’d.
  • Fractals — many are gated, but a few can be done solo, depending on profession. (I know they can all be done with only two people.)
  • PvP — you don’t “solo” it exactly, but doesn’t require that you socialize or join a guild.
  • WvW — if you can “havok” solo, you can be a big help to your server. It’s quite challenging when opponents have a lot of people (zerged or not).
  • Achievements — most achievements can be solo’d and many are challenging (a lot are mostly bookkeeping, which not everyone enjoys).
  • Map Completion — a lot of people consider this quite challenging to do alone.
  • Iron Man — create a new character instead & try to level up to 80 without dying. (If you die, start over.) There are variations for only using found items, allowing one death per map, waiting until 80 to begin the challenge, etc.

Good luck.

Most are reset daily at midnight UTC, just like any other 1x/day reward. A small number of JPs have a second wait time in addition to standard one. I think it’s around 12 hours, but I haven’t tested enough to be sure.

Sharkmaw and the silverwastes JPs both ‘suffer’ from this: if you grab a chest reward ~1 hr before reset, you won’t be able to grab it again immediately after reset. Instead, you’ll have to wait. (More than 4 hrs from the last time, less than 21 hours — that’s as much as I’ve narrowed it down.)

Those might have timers like the ori/ancient wood nodes. I used to farm those daily and my experience was that if the node harvest is within the 6 hours before reset, then it’s 6 more hours before it can be harvested again. So if it was harvested 5 hours before reset, then it’s 1 hour after reset and if it’s was harvested 1 hour before reset then it’s 5 hours after reset till the next harvest.

Yes, some JPs, some rich nodes, & most T6 nodes follow the exact same pattern, near as I’ve been able to determine.

I’ve been testing out the assumption that the second trigger is a 12-hour delay, which could be explained if some early code for node ‘gating’ used a cheap shortcut (checking the hour). But it could well be 6 hours instead; that would be consistent with my results so far.

It’s very fair that when you create a party, you should be able to have a say, if you want one, on which classes can join.

I agree with this and you already have a say.

And for it to be a much simpler, smoother, no hassle process.

I don’t agree with this. You want to restrict who joins you party? Go ahead, but I don’t see why the game should make it easy.

Try to focus just on the observed facts and report them to ANet. In the end, it’s up to the company to decide if that group is playing legit (and perhaps poorly) or if they are involved in any sort of behavior that violates the Terms of Service.

I realize you saw something that bothers you and that you think (with good cause) is bad for the game. But there’s really nothing more you can do except to give as much data as possible to ANet to make it easy for them to investigate and act.

In the future, don’t tell suspected ‘cheats’ that you are recording them; just record and report. Ideally, an ANet employee can respond quickly and get to observe the ‘suspects’ in-game.

Just to be clear: I do appreciate the effort that you are making to keep the game better for everyone. My advice is about helping you get the most out of all the work you are putting in.

Is PVE broken?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

PvE isn’t broken in the least, in my strong opinion. People are grumbling about what they perceive as something specific to GW2, which is that there are some builds that are more efficient than others and some builds that hit some sort of ‘wall’ of effectiveness.

The thing is pretty much any highly-skilled player in any game will reach a point where they have met all the game’s challenges and are looking for ways to improve their experience. PvE is still extremely challenging for a lot of people and a lot of fun for many who have mastered its intricacies.

Could it be improved? Could the meta be disrupted? (Should it be?) Sure. But that’s very different from being ‘broken’.

Finally, keep in mind that you aren’t hearing from ‘the playerbase’ — you are hearing from the group of people who are skilled enough to have reached the peak (or near-peak) of efficiency and looking for new challenges. Or people who have a preferred playstyle, which doesn’t do as well under GW2’s mechanics. The people who are satisfied or pleased with the current state of the game aren’t likely to be spending time on the forums explaining to the speed-runners why they don’t think the game is broken.

I bought GW1 Trilogy for US$20 and GW1 Proph+EotN (I forget the name under which that combination is marketed) for US$10. I’ve seen those prices at various times at Amazon, NewEgg, Best Buy, and even once at Target.

I believe that Steam has also offered various combinations of the game at a discount.

Since I started playing GW1 in 2009, I don’t remember ever seeing NCSOFT offer a discount for the game.

I’d check your favorite retailers instead. (Make sure when buying from Amazon that it’s Amazon doing the selling — a few vendors will sell ‘used’ copies that don’t have an unused serial #.)

Gold Transfer Changes

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Why should they change and/or cater changes to unsupported activities?

Unsupported activities?

Dungeon selling is a pretty integral part of the game now, even if a player-made idea.
It isn’t just for people wanting the harder paths fast, as I sell any and EVERY dungeon path, AC, CM, TA, Aether, Se, Arah, Fractals…

I was more sympathetic to your cause before the hyperbole:

  • It’s clearly unsupported, as ANet has said exactly this many times.
  • It’s not ‘integral’ to the game, it’s only integral to how some people choose to earn coin or tokens (or dungeon master achievement).

I agree with everyone wishing there was a way to harm gold sellers and gold buyers that didn’t hurt the rest of us. But the fact is that RMT harms the entire community and ANet needs to put some types of restrictions. It’s also a fact that this will slow down their ability to do business. Whether it’s worth the inconvenience to everyone else is something that ANet will have to decide.

I admire anyone who is skilled enough and has the dedication to make 500g/week selling dungeon paths. But that’s a tiny fraction of the player base; I don’t think ANet needs to adapt their policies for this group; I think this group needs to figure out their own alternatives.

The general practice is to join the taxi, enter the instance, and then drop the party. That makes it easier for you and the other ‘joiners’ to taxi more to the zone.

Presumably if 3+ people in an existing party join you, a single player, it’s easier for them to kick you (to maintain their group) than the using other mechanisms.

Regardless: it’s not personal: people just want in the zone; they aren’t usually looking to join a party in the zone.

Missing Transactions and Gold in TP

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I never seen a documented case of money or transactions disappearing from the TP. It always turns out to be a problem with the player’s TP cache, with older transactions being hidden, or people forgetting that they picked up and/or delisted items. (The last is more common than I would have predicted.)

  • Check your ‘history’ in your transaction tab; that’s a good way to see if stuff sold or not.
  • Use the ‘load more’ button at the bottom right of any of the transaction summaries. By default, you only see a limited number of entries, further limited by how old they are.
  • You can also try clearing out the TP cache from your computer, although given the info you’ve posted so far, I don’t expect that to matter. (Directions should be available via a tech forum sticky and/or knowledge base article under the ‘Support’ link in the upper left navbar of any forum page.)

If none of that resolves the mystery, file a support ticket and work with Customer Service. They can be helpful in tracking down things like this.

Long ago, a dev posted on this forum (atleast I think it was here) that introducing a new playable race would be more likely than introducing a new proffesion. Sadly I can’t find the post,

You can’t find the post because it never happened. A new profession has always been more likely than a new race, because it’s much simpler to add new profs.

  • New prof requires skill balance (not a simple job, but can be done by ANet alone) and a few voice overs, ideally by the original actors.
  • New race requires 15-20 new instances for the early personal story, a lot of voice overs, a tiny bit of skill balance, probably a new racial city, new balance among racial stories, and re-evaluating the later parts of the p-story for continuity/updating.

PS If you want to do your own search, you can use Google instead type out the following:

site:forum-en.guildwars2.com inurl:forum _ _ _ _ __

Replace the ‘_ _ _ _ __’ with your search terms. You can also use advanced search techniques such as:

  • Put the search term in quotes for exact match.
  • Use a minus sign (‘-’) to exclude a term

SW champ bags question

No…named exotics can drop for any level character. I just got one on a level ~20 day before yesterday.

My second precursor dropped at Level 6; it was Dusk.

so theres no point in opening champ bags at lvl 80?

just open everything at lvl 60?

It depends what you want.

  • L60 gets you more valuable masterwork gear (either sold directly or salvaged for mats).
  • L80 gets you L80 rares (more valuable than L60 rares), bloodstone dust, and non-named L80 exotics.

People keep forgetting: it’s not about whether the name is offensive to ‘someone’ — it’s about whether it’s disruptive to the community. I’m sure someone could make a case for taking offense from just about any name, but that wouldn’t require ANet to act.

In contrast, it’s clear that even the OP expected there to be strong reactions from people before they chose the name.

2 recipies that are too common

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

superior rune of the tapper and sigil of cleansing drop rate is way too much and you can’t unload them on tp since there no buy orders and have to just trash them instead.

I doubt it’s a “bug.” If the recipe drops frequently, the TP value drops to nothing. If it hardly drops at all, the price skyrockets. It’s difficult to find a balance.

Even if ANet tweaked the drop rate to nothing today, it would take a while before the TP supply dried up. Worse, as soon as people realized it, some folks would start to hoard them, anticipating that in 6-18 months, new players might be willing to pay a premium. At that point, there would be new complaints.

tl;dr I doubt if ANet is going to worry about it any time soon.

edit: I made the ‘bug’ comment because this post was originally posted the ‘bugs’ forum. That remark is no longer valid, since the moderators moved the post. The bulk of my original remarks remain valid: it’s hard to strike a balance between low/high drop rates and it would be even more difficult to adjust it now.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Exotic champ bags drop the same T5-6 mats and named exotics for all characters, regardless of level.

Character level only does two things:

  • It affects the level of gear dropped (armor, weapons, trinkets); that will match the toon level.
    • L53-57 toons probably have the most valuable greens.
    • L80s have the most valuable rares.
    • L60s have a nice mix of the two.
  • Sub-L80 toons don’t get bloodstone dust (a big plus for people conserving space; a big minus for those working on ascended gear).

If you want to maximize the wealth you receive from selling bag contents on the TP or from salvaging mats, use an L50-60 toon.

All true, except for one small thing: Any quality of champ bag can drop the champ bag exclusive exotics. I got Stardust from a fine quality champ bag on a level 30-something character.

Oh? good to know. I’ll add that to my future notes. (I never get anything good from the lower-tier bags.)

The people who are going to ‘chill’ after seeing your post are already chilled. The people who are toxic aren’t going to care.

There are a lot of new players in the game (due to recent sales, announcement of expac, etc) and they come with their own ideas about chat etiquette. It will take them time to learn this community is culturally different from a lot of other games.

The same thing has happened in the past: when the game launched, when there were sales, when the game added fractals, etc. Eventually, the ‘toxic’ alliance lost patience and became hardly noticeable.

My advice? /block the annoying, /report the truly offensive, and defuse potentially ugly situations with humor.

Why is there no controller support?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I think the proper question is: why does the game ‘need’ controller support? And what other future feature are you willing to forgo to get it?

The game was designed for the PC and ANet deliberately avoided making a console port of the game. It would take a huge amount of work to program for controllers and additional work to QA future changes to make sure that controllers always work. That effort will mean resources that won’t be working on something else.

tl;dr There’s no controller support because it is too expensive for this computer-based game.

It’s not a trivial thing to fix and it’s even more complicated to roll it back properly. They not only have to restore the content, they have to remove the rewards and AP from people who got them without scoring enough HoM/GWAMM points in GW1. Under ideal conditions (no other bugs for the ‘live’ team), I can’t imagine it taking less than 3-4 weeks to identify the root cause, test a fix, develop the rollback script, and test that, all the while making sure that there are no additional side effects and no one is ‘rolled back’ who wasn’t supposed to be.

Ulgoth events lots loot

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The new thing now is for some people (I call them trolls, as it’s done on purpose) to push the champ that appears at Southforge Camp during the Ulgoth events out of the circle. Since he is linked to that circle it often results in his disappearance before he dies which mean no loot for anyone.
Can this be changed so he doesn’t poof before he dies?

It’s not a bug and I don’t know that those are trolls. I see a lot of players spam knockbacks on cooldown, without realizing the impact. Maybe a few players do it on purpose, but I suspect they are only a fraction compared to those doing by accident. My evidence is anecdotal: I see the exact same players spamming other skills on cooldown that also have unintended (and negative) consequences during other parts of the chain.

In any case, it’s one champ bag in one part of a single event in a chain which has plentiful rewards. Instead of focusing on the Southcamp champ, focus on tagging mobs generally in the other parts of the chain; I get tons of valuable mid-tier items from that, with a net value far in excess of what I get from champ bags.

Probably the same, or at least not noticeable difference that anyone actually know if there is a difference. You do get 4 more fractal relics though.

More accurately, no one has collected any data on differences within tiers, at least not that I’ve seen published on the GW2 subreddit or here. There’s plenty of data on differences across the tiers, though.

On the whole, I choose to do higher fractals within a tier for the challenge. For example, L1 or L11 might be ‘too easy’ for a group of regulars, but with some new players, I prefer the easier versions.

Generally speaking, if I did fractals for the loot, I’d probably quit the game. For me, the reward is in succeeding at content that challenges me. (Just to be clear, I think the overall loot is fine; it’s just low for the time I spend compared to other parts of the game.)

What are some ways to make 5-10g a day fast?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

You don’t want to spend money yet you don’t have a lot of time to play to earn gold at a more normal rate. Yea, you’re basically screwed by your lack of willingness to do either.

What the hell are you talking about, “lack of willigness”? I laid out what my time frame is, and I asked for options, not judgment.

“Lack of willingness” maybe wasn’t a diplomatic phrasing of the fact that the game rewards those who spend time or RL money; those who don’t have either are at a big disadvantage. I strongly recommend Behellagh’s specific advice.

The short version is that there are only limited number of ways to earn 5+ gold/hour:

  • Master power trading on the TP.
  • Speed clear dungeons.
  • Become a super-efficient farmer for Silverwastes, Orr, Harathi, or various niche farms.

Each of those requires some sort of initial investment before you can start earning top coin and each tends to lead to burn out by people who do them exclusively over other content.

Good luck.

GW2 Ritualist class?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I was much happier with the GW2 classes after I stopped worrying about trying to match my GW1 experience.

  • the gameplay is very different between the games, e.g. you can’t move while casting most skills in GW1 and you almost have to keep moving in GW2.
  • the classes don’t match up that well across the games, even when the class names are the same. GW2’s mesmer has almost nothing in common with GW1’s; both games’ rangers have pets, but outside of that, they share little.

What I did instead was try five different classes to about L30 to get a sense of what I liked in this game. I deliberately chose two light classes (my traditional preference), a heavy (my traditional nemesis), and two mediums (my traditional take it/leave it). I ended up loving Guardian, something I didn’t expect (as I used to hate melee).

Of course, everyone’s tastes is different, so your mileage (or kilometrage) will differ.

This restriction should have no effect on items sent through mail. If there is, it’s unintended and most likely a bug.

http://i.imgur.com/EEN2wbW.png

Testing results:
Mailed an item with no merchant value (Divine Lucky Envelope): unable to pull it out of the mail.
Placed Divine Lucky Envelope in Guild Bank: Was able to withdraw from the guild bank.
Unable to withdraw gold from guild bank.

I’ve found the bug, looking into the issue now.

Going to have to wait for a fix on this one until sometime next week. Items wont dissapear, they just won’t be claimable until the restriction resets or we fix this. This only applies to mail that is sent to someone already at the cap that contains coins and items.

I hit the item restriction, but I didn’t receive any coin since the scheduled start time. As soon as I saw Gaile’s announcement, I moved my guild bank coin into my wallet — that was before the UTC time that her post said the restriction would go into effect (thus also before the Pacific time, too). My evidence that I made it before the deadline: I was able to withdraw additional coin after first moving 500g.

In other words, besides the item restriction, the gold limit counted coin received prior to the scheduled time, perhaps because it’s part of “this week,” i.e. it happened Tuesday, which is part of “this week’s” Sun-Sat.

Obviously, you guys can’t fix that bug, but maybe you can ensure that any future weekly restrictions (guild commendations, coin transfers, crafting gates, etc) go into effect on Sundays. Or if it needs to start mid-week, add code to make sure it doesn’t affect players retroactively.

Just to be clear: even though I’m annoyed by the inconvenience, I don’t consider this a priority; I can work-around the coin limit. I’ll also get over the fact that my trust in the dates in the original announcement made things worse for me.

i agree with you on this!

everyone happy then
and more profit for anet

Why not both? Because it takes a lot more resources to create six armor pieces with 2-4 dye channels each that look good on 10 different race/gender combinations than it does to create one outfit with only four channels for the same combinations of race/gender. If it were easy to create new designs, I’m sure we’d see them release new sets every month and people would be happier still.

Guild Merits

Guild bounties do not require merits to unlock nor to queue. The system is designed so you progress one unlock at a time, build up influence using that new mission, move on to the next unlock.

You could suggest that they change the system do that there is a non-merit challenge available outside of Art of War.

Make Largos a Playable Race

It’s unlikely we’ll see new playable races any time soon:

  1. The announced expansion doesn’t include them.
  2. It’s much more costly than adding a new profession (for GW2): new personal stories, update to the order stories, make sure all gear has a new set of designs & animations, create cultural gear, etc.

I, too, would like to see more races. I just don’t think it’s likely.

Can't Take Items From Mail

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I haven’t accepted any coin from email or taken any from a personal guild bank since the new currency limits went into effect.

Yesterday, I could grab stuff via email; today, I cannot. The ‘take all’ button is greyed out and the mouseover text reads, “This would exceed the value allowed to be received by this account this week. …”

Even if ‘value allowed’ included vendor value, most of the stuff I received has been siege (no value) or mats (minor amounts of value).

I’m at a loss to understand why I can’t accept “items” and how it is that I’ve hit the limit, without sending currency.

edit/followup: I can add/remove the same items from the guild bank, just not from email.

edit/followup 2: According to “Chris Cleary:”https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/Chris-Cleary-8017

This restriction should have no effect on items sent through mail. If there is, it’s unintended and most likely a bug.

Tired of the wait/Hype seriously going down

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I’m hitting the 3-year itch (that point in an MMO when you’ve been there and done that and not that much is thrilling enough to occupy your time or attention). But I don’t want ANet to hype for the sake of hyping. They have a plan for offering hints and following up with details. That’s fine.

What I really want is new content, but I prefer to wait for it to be done right (or at least, as well as possible). The alternative is that they rush stuff and we end up with a great expansion with major blemishes or bugs.

Gold "disappears" from account

Armeni: there’s no mechanism that I know about that would remove gold from your wallet.

It seems to me that you have covered nearly all the other likely avenues for gold to go missing, all the likely clues that someone might have compromised your account, and all the things to check to make sure nothing else is missing. That being the case, I agree with my esteemed colleague, Inculpatus: work with CS and see if they can identify what might have happened.

In the meantime, I don’t see you mentioning two other possibilities (unlikely, but worth checking):

  • The TP: see if there are any recent transactions or buy offers.
  • Personal guild bank: is it possible you moved gold into one of those?

Good luck finding out what happened. And please let us know when you do. I hope it’s something that you’ll be embarrassed to admit, if only because that would mean you found the gold and all is well (instead of any of the uglier possibilities).

Runes of the Ranger change confirmation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I don’t expect a confirmation one way or another until it’s adjusted again.

  • Illusions are companions for other mechanics, just as much as other summoned creatures.
  • Minis have also counted as companions, which is arguably a bug, as in an unintended ‘feature’. It is most notable for Runes of the Ranger.
  • Regardless of what ANet thinks might be bugged, they didn’t mention this change in the patch notes in the last two weeks and haven’t responded to any of the numerous posts on the topic yet. Therefore, I don’t expect them to respond until the next time a patch does something to affect it. And maybe not even then.

Question about the new Precursor skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The short story is they haven’t said yet. I don’t expect them to do so right now — they’ll read questions on the forums, asked by fanzines/bloggers, and the next time there’s a news post or an official presentation on the topic, they’ll share some more details.

At that point, I expect some market disruption: prices on a few things will tank or skyrocket, as speculators speculate, non-speculators panic, and some speculators panic.

Suggestion about bugs

Illconceived Was Na.9781

  • Every time is a bad time for someone in the community, however, some times are better for ANet staff.
  • Every moment that a bug is in the game, someone is inconvenienced. Typically, the overall effect is worse on the community by waiting 2-3 days than the momentary need to exit for a patch.
  • Nearly all of the time, you can continue playing the game for 1-2 hrs after a hotfix; you don’t have to exit PvE at all usually. (Although WvW, because it’s a shared environment is different, unfortunately.)

Pls no

Recently there has been a couple of datamines, 1 beeing an “outfit” of the baltazhar armor.

I know a-net wants my and evryone else’s money but the consept of basicly having the armor of A GOD is quite epic. So why dont make GOD! armor Legendary, just a thought.

PS: I hate outfits
PSS: sorry for bad english

There’s nothing wrong with your English, but you might want to rephrase your post to a suggestion next time.

Instead of ‘pls no’, title it: “[Suggestion] Legendary armor based on the gods.” Instead of saying you hate outfits, focus on what you do like (and why legendary armor would be better).

That said:

  • I happen to like outfits (in moderation); especially for new characters, it’s nice, sometimes, not to have to have as much to swap/update/recolor.
  • There’s nothing that prevents ANet from having Balthazar outfit and armor pieces.

What if Crafting did not give XP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The are multiple issues with the original post:

  1. Crafting is very profitable. It depends on the item and the market conditions.
  2. There are several reasons why certain items are cheaper to buy than to craft; experience from crafting is only one (and not the most important probably).
  3. The economy isn’t ‘broken’ because some (even most) items aren’t profitable to craft regularly. We are used to other MMOs where crafting is very profitable, but often that’s because those economies are broken (in that people with access to certain resources have a big advantage over others who don’t).

In short, there’s no actual problem that needs to be fixed, let alone a need for experience to be removed from the crafting process.

What is a "Mordrem" and other ED stuff

in Lore

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Good post by Konig Des Todes; helped clarify that there’s a history to the name behind dragons, that they aren’t specifically associated with a particular race.

I agree that ‘overgrown’ is more fun than ‘mordrem’ (and it’s easier to type, too).

However, in the grand scheme of things, if the writers are going to change a minor bit of lore, this might be last on my list of things I hope to see addressed. Plus, it is usually fairly resource intensive to change the names of a a few dozen creatures (the ‘change’ itself is usually easy — the testing and confirming that such changes don’t affect anything else is what ends up being complicated).

tl;dr ‘mordrem’ is fine
