Should I buy trait books with skill points?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

It really depends on you and your preferred playstyle, willingness to find/complete the necessary tasks, and/or willingness to spend the required amounts of currency.

To buy all trait unlocks costs 360 SP and 43 gold. Alternatively, you can do the various tasks, which I estimate to take a minimum of 21 hours, not including time spent waiting for certain events to become available. Therefore, it’s more economically efficient to do the challenges. On other hand, it would burn me out doing it on more than one character (since all the challenges are identical and some are imo tedious).

I therefore recommend reviewing the wiki’s article on trait unlocks first:

  • If you haven’t done the specific challenge, go ahead and do it; some of them are fun the first time and some expose you to new content/game modes that might be appealing.
  • Also try the challenge if you don’t have any specific memories about doing it before.
  • For the challenges you do remember:
    • Is it easy/trivial and/or fun? Go ahead an do it.
    • Was it boring or tedious? Or you just can’t bear to re-do it for some reason? Then sure, spend the coin.

As an example, all of the newest Grandmaster traits are worth unlocking via content: you just park the toon near the required event and check occasionally; if the event is up, participate and if not, swap to another character and come back later.

Following this advice, I estimate I spend ~100 SP and 12.3 gold, instead of 360 SP & 43g. It also keeps me from burning out due to grind.

A few notes about skill points. SPs are used for other things besides unlocking skills and traits, notably crafting legendary and other mystic forge weapons and promoting materials (also in the forge).

As Hayashi says, SPs can be converted into coin, too. Anywhere from 20-120s per SP, depending on what you invest in and the turn around.

However, for most players, SP acquisition is either incredibly easy (from PvP or champ bags) or really difficult (since it mostly requires level up and login rewards for WvW and some styles of PvE play). If you have SP galore, it’s worth investing some of them to save you the aggravation of tracking down the unlocks. But if SP are scarce for you, I recommend saving them for later, just in case.

The Jeremy Soule stuff is sold/distributed only by DirectSound, a company partly-owned by Soule. Some have had reasonable experiences , but there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of posts by people with Kasoon’s experience: money sent, nothing received (or unusable CDs etc). Buyer beware.

I believe all of the Maclaine Diemer and Leif Chappelle material can be found on SoundCloud. See the Soundtrack article, on the wiki for details.

Many can not get theur mawdry back item due to this kitten

Please read some of the posts above yours. Water of Rhand is not impossible; there are at least two work-arounds.

  • Stand on the ‘floor’ above the water and logout and then back in; your character will be in the water and can proceed as always.
  • Get a port to Rhendak’s tomb and work your way backwards.

Of course, ANet should still fix the bug, but in the meantime, anyone who wants to finish crafting Mawdrey has these alternatives.

Don’t take big risks if you can’t handle big losses.

In fairness, the OP’s complaint is that this appeared to be a tiny risk. I would argue that the lesson is to remember that scarce resources do not always remain scarce indefinitely. In other words, don’t assume there’s little risk when you speculate based on current supply, especially when it comes to gem shop RNG drops.

It’s not random. It’s been a fairly clear pattern that a couple times a year, ANet re-introduces kits or adds them as drops to BL Chests (or other containers). The pattern also shows that prices eventually go back up, albeit more slowly.

I’ve gotten burned a few times on holding onto colors too long, so I started paying closer attention: anytime I get so greedy I’m salvaging like Wile E Coyote looking at the Roadrunner, I know it’s either time to sell or time to hide any colors away for a few months — something is about to happen.

I am sorry that you (or anyone) got burned by this, but not so sorry that I support the criticism of ANet’s decision. I think the community/economy benefit by ANet not letting speculation dominate too many markets and by periodic disruptions to high-end niches.

tl;dr kittens [sic] happen when you speculate.

Just wondering if GW2 have an event/festival at Easter?

In GW1, they have Special Treats Week (formerly just a weekend). According to the wiki:

Sweet Treats Week is a special event that occurs annually from April 10, 19:00, to April 17, 19:00 UTC (source), which coincides roughly with Easter weekend.

During this event, a Golden Egg and/or Chocolate Bunny will randomly drop from PvE foes.

There hasn’t been anything like it to-date for GW2.

Excess T5 matts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

No one can say. Once someone types it out, it will quickly become the least profitable route, as everyone reading tries to do the same thing.

So, generally, the best use of T5 is to sell them on the TP. You can study the history (on spidy or similar sites) to determine an aggressive price. Plus, there’s a lot less labor involved in selling stacks of mats versus collecting what you need to make something else, crafting those items, and then selling them. Stacks sell faster than anything you might craft from them.

Alternatively, visit gw2spidy.com. Search for any item; it will show you the most profitable to craft. (You might want to follow the steps through to other items that can be crafted from the intermediate pieces you can craft directly.)

I don’t think it’s good for the game to have an official world for anything, except maybe language (just for the ease in communication). Anything else ends up splitting the community. It’s good for RPers to be part of the larger community; it’s good for non-RPers to be exposed to RP.

More importantly, if they add an RP server, why not a speed-clear server? Why not a farming server? Why not an ironman (reroll character on first death)?

Anyhow, I’m not sure TC being full has anything to do with RP these days. It’s a top-tier WvW server and its chief competitors, BG and JQ, are also full.

There is no sure fire way to make the move. It will show ‘full’ probably at all times. Your best bet is to keep trying whenever you have a few minutes. Odd hours work best usually, but persistence is more important.

I don’t recommend trying every few minutes; that leads to burn out. Instead, if you can stay near a computer with the game installed, try 1-2x whenever you can spare the time.

Another method works for people in a huge guild (100s of members): pick a time that a huge fraction of them are online and have them all logout at exactly the same moment and try then. AFAIK, that has always worked in the past (although TC might be too full for that to be reliable these days).

Good luck.

ANet hasn’t clearly explained the mechanics governing what makes servers ‘full’ and when people can get in. So the following is speculative, based on my best understanding of things I’ve seen the devs mention.

Population depends on the following:

  • How many people playing right now.
  • How many people have played ‘recently’ (which might mean last 24 hrs or last week or longer)
  • The peak login in the last recent reporting period (probably a month or 3).
  • How many accounts registered to the server.

In other words, there are dynamic and relatively static components. Since there are always some people transferring from TC at some point, there will always be moments when you can ‘replace’ them. Similarly, since there are always people logging out, there will be some moments when the game’s algorithm decides there’s room for one more.

However, that would only reduce the number of times asks for support for GvG… for about an hour. People who want to see that mechanic don’t need the name of the game to ‘justify’ the idea. (Personally, I have no interest in it, but I can see why people are passionate about it.)

HoT is going to change the game in some fundamental ways. It would be foolish of ANet not to change relevant, existing mechanics to support those changes. In the past, ANet has been pretty good about giving us a lot of time to get ready for such disruptions.

  • There will be blog posts, Q&A sessions, Ready-ups and other types of media discussing the changes.
  • We will have time to decide what to use, what to hoard, and what to trash/sell.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Wait. Someone who freely admits he’s in the upper .175% of income in the game is upset because the system isn’t tailored to his needs.

As a side effect, they want a system that’s guaranteed to increase in-game scamming, and be a RMT haven. Because it would be easier for him to avoid the TP tax.

No.

Yep I do freely admit it as anyone can get there with a lil bit of motivation.

I want a system that can actually prevent me from being impaired by something that is introduced when everything was working fine. Because I enjoy player to player trading and nothing bad can come from it. Less scamming actually.

Yes.

Um, no, everyone cannot get to the level of income you have. If everyone did the things you did, they wouldn’t be as valuable. People are paying you to save them time. If everyone was willing to spend that time, then no one would be willing to pay anyone else for it.

Also: no about P2P trading. I really enjoy meeting other traders in-game. It’s how I met most of my closest friends in other games and I do miss that in GW2.

However, P2P trading is bad for the community overall:

  • It allows people to scam others in a variety of ways, including item substitution, avoid market prices, take advantage of imperfect distribution of knowledge, and launder illicitly earned wealth.
  • It bypasses the best and biggest gold sink in just about any MMO.

I’m glad that the things you do make you richer than just about everyone else (and I hope you realize that you’re in the 1%, not the 20%). And I agree that your ideas should be heard just as much as anyone else’s. However, when suggesting a massive change to the status quo (in relation to trading, not the gold transfer limit), the proponent needs to point out how it benefits the community as a whole. So far, your posts do a good job of explaining how this would benefit the minority of the wealthy and those trying to bypass TP fees; I haven’t seen how the new economy would benefit the majority.

I did the jumping puzzles because I saw someone do it, and I did a few jumping puzzles and opened the chests, before realizing there was an achievement. Are the chests reset if I unlock this collection later?

Yes.

Even better, if you save one ‘grubby’ package from each of the different chest types (krytan, asura, sylvari, charr, etc), those will drop the necessary ornaments when you get to final steps in the quest.

Unfortunately, it appears that the quest chain won’t restart until next Wintersday, i.e. December 2015.

Retune Orr please?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

With Heart of Thorns coming out can we retune Orr and other high level zones? Right now in Orr more then half of all way points are contested nearly all the time and there is around 15 million events going on with the 12 people total in the zones not doing any of them.

Can we make it a little bit less, endgamey? It was tuned and designed with the idea that a lot of max levels hang out there. We have Silverwastes for that now. Can we retune the zones to be a bit easier and less headache inducing for world completion?

I like all the things about Orr that the OP described as negatives: lots of events, needing to clear some to open up WPs, chained events, lots of foes.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some zones ‘retuned’, but I’d start at those that get less attention from the community: Gendarran, Snowden, and Mount Maelstrom hardly sees ‘overflows’ (except if there’s a world boss or during guild-mission rush hour). In contrast, Orr gets plenty of visitors.

Use Khisanth’s trick. The game is about to start limiting the amount of money you can transfer to a guild bank to 500g/week and if you get hacked, account restoration won’t return the money or items in the guild bank. (Although, I’m not sure about what happens to buy orders after a restoration — in theory, the money is still supposed to be for your account, held in escrow by Evon Gnashblade. In practice, I could see it being ignored or included in the restoration.)

If they cancel the orders and take it all out from the TP it wouldn’t be any different than if you had kept it all in your account wallet the whole time.

It depends how they do the snapshot. I posted a question about it; I’m hoping I can get a red tag answer. I can see them not wanting to dupe items or coin (you offered Bolt at 3,000g, the hacker took it down and insta-sold it at 2,000 ; someone has that bolt now — can they ‘restore’ it to you? I could see them going either way.)

Bring back dyes from harvesting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Looking at unidentified dye alone speaks to the ‘average’ increase. Before the wardrobe they were 1-2 silver, now they’re 75 silver (that’s over 35x as much as they used to be).

I’m not sure why you think that prices for unID were 1-2 silver “before the wardrobe”. The last time they were that low was in 2012.

Prices for UnID dyes were steadily rising long before the announcement of the wardrobe. I chose Feb 2014 for comparison because (a) that was before the wardrobe was announced (which sent the markets into a tizzy) and (b) the prices were fairly stable (if rising) for that period of time. We could choose a different moment in time to compare and it would still show similar results.

Oh there’s no question dye prices are much more these days than before. Prior to the announcement of the dye wardrobe, it was easy to pickup fine dyes for 30-50 copper. Now, the lowest price for fine is 1s 70, masterwork is 12s 85, and cheapest rare is over 64s. Average prices are much higher than that.

On the other hand, a single dye is a permanent account unlock, so covers a minimum of five characters per player. On the whole, prices aren’t yet five times more than before, so currently, I’d say we’re better off on average.

Using your price example of 30-50c (I remember it being different at 22-64c) for a fine dye and the lowest fine dye of 1.7silver now… uh… how do you get that prices aren’t yet five times what they were. I checked the listed offers on fine dyes. They range from 1.94S (close enough to your 1.7, since I’m aware the market shifts) to over 10S. Before the range was 30-50 copper… Ten silver is twenty times that of fifty copper, and close to twenty times the cost of 64c.

I apologize for mixing up “as low as” with “average” in my previous post. Using specific data, it’s easy to see that we pay less now to unlock a specific dye account wide than we would have paid before the wardrobe.

I don’t like “remembering” prices, because I don’t trust my memory, so I used Spidy instead. For shorthand, I’ll use WTB to mean the highest offer (AKA Want to Buy) and WTS for the lowest listed price (AKA Want to Sell).

  • UnID dyes currently run at WTB=68s, WTS=78s. In February 2014 (about a month prior to the announcement of the wardrobe), the equivalent prices were as low as WTB=26s and as high as WTS=34s. -> Prices have more than doubled, but not tripled, let alone quintupled for UnIDs.
  • Pastel Peach, never a popular choice, current runs 2.76s-4.06s. In Feb 2014, it was WTB=0.92s & WTS=1.90 (trough) -2.95s (peak). -> Prices are tripled for buy orders and roughly doubled for sales.
  • Ruby is an attractive masterwork red now running 60s -90s. In Feb 2014, it was WTB = 40.0-47.0s and WTS=65s. -> Prices have increased by about 50%.
  • Starry Night is a personal favorite rare blue running now at 1g44s to not quite 2g. In Feb 2014, it fluctuated quite a bit. WTB was as low as 40s, and as high as 68s; WTS went 60s to just under 1g. -> Prices have increased by about 100%.

There are some exceptions to the pattern, mostly due to the special market niche certain dyes play.

tl;dr The overall cost of outfitting an entire account with a particular color is still less today than it was before the wardrobe was announced.

Gold Transfer Changes

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Any increase in account protections means trading off convenience for security. The most secure vault is difficult to access; the least secure is stored in your convertible, on the driver’s seat.

Cleary’s data suggests that only a few thousand players transfer 500 gold or more per week via email. It also suggests that many more are involved in buying black market gold or selling off assets from stolen accounts. This change, therefore, should protect many more people than it inconveniences. We should all be happy about that aspect.

There are two issues with the solution that are not covered by Cleary’s post:

  • How many people withdraw 500g or more from guild banks in a week? I suspect the fraction is much larger than stated, if only because I know lots of people that add/subtract a few 100g every few days; I know very few who have 500g at any given time.
  • How about guild leaders managing lotteries, donations to guilds moving from other servers, or otherwise pooling guild assets?

The first issue has a work-around: store assets as buy offers on the TP. It’s less convenient, but just as effective.

The second issue has no current work-around, but could be addressed by adding a guild improvement that allows members with certain rank permissions to withdraw e.g. 1,000 or 10,000 gold per week. If the upgrades cost required guild merits, RMTs and account thieves would be unable to bypass the restrictions, but well-established guilds would be able to manage pooled resources.

Personal Story Restoration update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

While most of your announcement is good, I would urge you to re-consider this part. Until PS replayability is added, you’re taking a piece of content that anyone can access at any time, and limiting it to only those players who have the story step active. Experiment with a soloable dungeon if you like, but don’t keep taking away content.

How many people do you know that have voluntarily initiated Arah story mode more than once for the same character? Further, this won’t stop any of us from joining someone else’s party and going through it again. And even further, it’s not as if we can redo any other part of the personal story.

To me, this change finally makes the final step in the personal story consistent with all the steps that led up to it: they are are soloable (if desired), they cannot be replayed (except by joining someone else doing them for the first time), and they don’t act as a barrier to any other content in the game.

TP Listings After a Restoration?

I’m pretty sure the CS Team has stated that the TP (or rather anything to do with the TP) is not restored. Just like with the Guild Vaults.

If you so desire, you could spend the couple of hours searching through the posts (Google/Dev Tracker).

Good luck.

I found three posts, none of which directly addressed the question.

  • The closest was Gaile saying she didn’t think the TP listings were covered, but she wasn’t sure and hoped the OP would let her know. The player to whom her reply was addressed said he’d let her know after he got his restoration, but no follow-up was posted.
  • The next best was someone who said he was told by Support that stuff sold on the TP would not be restored. However, I think it’s ambiguous: the official response was not quoted and the OP didn’t explain clearly whether they had originally asked about assets on the TP before the hack or assets that were sold on the TP after the hack.
  • Another post concerned a twice-hacked account, and wanted to find out about stuff that was lost during the 2nd breech after Supported was alerted (and given proof) of said breech. (Answer: no, ANet can only move so quickly to lock the account; it’s up to us players to prevent the compromise.)

TP Listings After a Restoration?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Does anyone have personal experience with what happens to TP listings after an account is hacked and restored? ANet has told us that looted guild vaults won’t be restored, but I’m wondering about offers and items on the TP. I know that the way it works is that ANet takes snapshots of our accounts on a regular basis and a restoration restores the account to that previous state. What I don’t know is if that includes the assets on the TP. The knowledge base article doesn’t currently address the topic.

Here’s the scenario:

  • You have made an offer on Shadow Abyss for 125g and are selling electro blue for 145g. You have 100g in the wallet.
  • Snapshot taken, Saturday at noon.
  • Sunday, the account is hacked and looted. The TP offer is taken down and electro blue is delisted and sold to highest bidder.
  • Monday, ANet learns of the theft and locks the account.
  • Tuesday, you find out, rage at the world, change passwords, and work with ANet to document your ownership.
  • Wednesday, ANet resets your account to Saturday’s snapshot

Does that snapshot include the ~270g in assets you had on the TP? (The buy offer on the dye for sale.) Or is that lost to the mists?

I can see it working either way: on the one hand, ANet wants to restore accounts as closely as possible. On the other, a TP restoration would mean that your assets would be duplicated: the dye was already sold and all the coin was distributed to other accounts.

Thanks in advance for your help answering this.

It has been claimed that neither minis nor mesmer illusions trigger the bonus. All other companions are claimed to still work: ranger pets, necro minions, ele summons, and consumable-generated summons.

I have seen several people making the claim (although none that described their methodology).

Bring back dyes from harvesting

Oh there’s no question dye prices are much more these days than before. Prior to the announcement of the dye wardrobe, it was easy to pickup fine dyes for 30-50 copper. Now, the lowest price for fine is 1s 70, masterwork is 12s 85, and cheapest rare is over 64s. Average prices are much higher than that.

On the other hand, a single dye is a permanent account unlock, so covers a minimum of five characters per player. On the whole, prices aren’t yet five times more than before, so currently, I’d say we’re better off on average.

Water of Rhand - Mortar bugged?

Walk onto the ‘floor’ above the water, just in front of the mortar. Logout the character and log back in quickly; you’ll be in the water and can proceed normally. You can get to the ‘water’ for mawdrey without issue. If you want to get into Rhendak’s tomb, you’ll need someone to open the gate from the inside. In my experience, there’s nearly always someone there who can do that.

Each color looks very different depending on the material, quality, and design of the armor to which its applied. Typically, celestial won’t be as shiny on leathers as on some metals or even cloth. Sometimes it’s so shiny and bright, I use a ‘lesser’ color to tone it down.

I dunno if it’s worth the price you paid, but Celestial is definitely a special color and I’m glad it’s in my collection.

People keep trying to argue that certain words should not offend other people. That misses the point. This community is huge; ANet needs to make it a safe environment for as many of us as possible. Asking people to stick to half-way polite word choices inconveniences a small group of people a minor amount, whereas having no restrictions typically results in large numbers of people feeling uncomfortable. It’s in ANet’s interest to make the game environment comfortable for the vast majority, not to cater to the minority who can’t seem to understand why it’s not okay to use racial or social epithets.

At some point in our lives, we all learn that phrasing that makes sense in one environment will cause all sorts of problems in another. Your guild might not care about swearing in /guild or /voip, but that hardly means that it’s OK to use the same language in /map or /say.

tl;dr it doesn’t matter if you or I (or Blizzard) think a phrase should be ok to use in chat or as a character name; it matters only if ANet thinks it would disrupt the community.

On top of that, I did get 100g more than if I would use the TP to sell it and he did get the precursor for 50g less than if he used the TP to buy that (that’s how much the fee takes).

Don’t be fooled, it’s not all about gold sellers. This is also a way for Anet to discourage this behavior, so that their TP gold sink is always working.

There are far simpler ways for ANet to increase gold sinks that do not generate as much controversy or inconvenience.

New Content Coming for Pre. Collections?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I am really excited about the long overdue precursor collections and crafting.

…The fact that it’s coming after years of delays and frustration and silence on the topic has me hoping that a lot of game play has been added to the core game. …why the extended delays? Couldn’t this have been implemented when collections were added as a feature to the game …?

I will be sorely disappointed if this were held back …to get more people to buy the x-pac …

So what do you guys think? Are we getting new content to do or is this just going to be doing the same stuff we’ve been doing for 2+ years?

ANet has already outlined the changes they will be making to the game and already discussed why precursor scavenger hunting took so long to implement.

  • We are getting new content, but not that many new zones to start off.
  • There was mention of instanced and group challenges, but the words ‘dungeon,’ ‘raid,’ and ‘fractal’ were avoided.
  • There was mention that some new content will be tied to the expac and some won’t.
  • The reason a new route to legendaries took so long to implement is that it has huge implications to the economy and existing owners of ‘prestige’ items. They were deliberative in rolling out a new system that would support scavenger hunts more easily, to test that with simple collections, and then later tiered collections. Some of the simple collections bugged out the gate (brewmeister, wine), while the more recent additions work well (lumi armor) — all in all, I think it’s great that we didn’t get it all at once.

That said, I think some people will be very disappointed by the expac — not because it lacks in features, but because it lacks in changes to the game those folks have been hoping or agitating for. (Pretty much the way I view version upgrades to iTunes or MS Word: always lots of new, robust, powerful features, but never the ones I wanted and always in a way that makes it harder to do what I enjoyed in the past.)

I’m looking forward to the expac; I think it will be a lot of fun.

Is there anyone apart from a few gw1 players that actually care about this title

It might be 200,000 to 1,000,000 GW1 players affected by this in some way. Broken reward system is still broken, even if those who didn’t earn it are largely unaffected.

Hyperbole much?

No, I don’t think so. We know that there were around 3 million pre-orders for GW2. It doesn’t seem a stretch to assume that at least 10% of those were GW1 players; it’s credible (but less likely) that 1/3 were GW1 players. Most, if not all, GW1 players who pre-ordered GW2 would have scored some HoM points and thus earned relevant rewards for this game. All of them are affected by the current situation, at least in some form.

I realize that my post made it sound like I was suggesting that a million people might be waiting to obtain their HoM rewards for the first time, due to the lockdown and I apologize for that, as I doubt that is the case. It’s probably not as many as 200k either. Still, given how many GW2 players have bought GW1 since the game launched and how many have recently decided to up their HoM score, I’d be very surprised if this didn’t directly affect thousands and thousands of players. By any measure, that’s more than “a few.”

Because i happen to know someone who was forced to change their character names when there is absolutely nothing offensive about them. So if there is an actual professional moderation team at work, why are they not professional enough to spot the difference between offensive/insulting/inappropriate and normal?

And no, the names in question are not – in any way – inappropriate.

The problem with the “inappropriate character name” thing is that it’s set to automatically force a renaming after a certain number of reports are made against the same name (I’ve heard multiple times that the number is four). Someone in my guild was forced to change his name (which is the name of a goddess and multiple fictional characters) because enough people reported his name due to the same four letters being used as an acronym for a terrorist organization.

So yeah, something needs to change there.

Someone asked Gaile about having a character named Isis and, at the time, Gaile said it was ok. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Name-Misunderstanding/first#post4344839

Also, it doesn’t matter if 1,000 people report a name or only one person: someone still has to manually investigate and (sometimes) a team will review the decision.

Finally, it doesn’t matter if you or I think the names are ‘offensive’, it only matters if ANet thinks the name is disruptive to the community.

You HAVE GOT to be kidding me. I’m a guild leader that runs a variety of events and I maintain a position as guild treasurer. There can be weeks where I receive ALOT MORE than 500g in mail.

I find this change not beneficial to people like me and very much oppose the way that this system is going to operate. Our Legendary weapon raffles alone are now going to be super frustrating.

I can’t remember a change this inconvenient ever since you put in that confirmation box for speeding up guild upgrades. We really enjoy the 40+ confirmation boxes we have to click every day for 24/7 guild buffs!

Ignoring the hyperbole, this is the first (and only) post I’ve seen to raise an issue that cannot readily be resolved by the proposed system. Huge guilds often run lottos or collect for WvW siege or otherwise run into situations in which 500g/week is too low of a limit.

I’d like to propose that guild be allowed an influence+commendation upgrade to increase the cap.

  • This would give large guilds something on which to spend their excess currency.
  • RMTs etc wouldn’t be able to use this, unless they hacked the accounts of guild leaders (and should that happen, there would be all sorts of other problems making the gold transfer seem unimportant).

Hence why I am asking about our personal banks getting back the ability for us to store gold. It was a feature we had, that we lost and ArenaNet staff told us to use a personal guild bank. All I am asking for is clarification on whether or not they have the intention to add personal gold storage back to our personal banks.

But the question is why do we need that? We already can store gold, it’s just that it happens automatically and it can be accessed from anywhere and on any character.

  • I doubt very much if ANet staff told us to use a personal guild bank. My memory is that they said (in response to a question) that it was permitted.
  • Some people like to store gold outside the wallet to reduce their spending, using the out-of-sight/out-of-mind technique.
    • The new system allows this, at a limit of 500g/week.
    • An alternative is to put in TP buy offers that are too low to get fulfilled. For example, offer 1,000 gold for Eternity, or 4 gold for 250 Superior Runes of Holding. Cancel the offers when you want the gold (no limits from the TP).

I was planning to finally buy and play GW1 shortly before this bug occured, in order to experience the story (instead of just reading into the lore).

Another reason was to get some HoM skins in the process (I doubt I will manage to get many titles though, since there is quite some playing time required). That part of my motivation is currently gone with this bug around… I guess I will wait with the purchase until I know this has been fixed, since currently it isn’t even possible to use the HoM…

Oh you should go ahead and get GW1 — you can still use its HoM and it will take you some time to start accumulating points.

As long as I’ve been reading about this, there are always people convinced that the achievement is bugged and it’s always turned out the person didn’t get credit for 1 or 2 of the dives. (I say ‘always’ because, any follow-ups posted were always of successful completion.)

What happens is that some of the dives have a very tiny area in which they trigger and there is no confirmation message when you succeed. Some believe getting swapped out of your swimming clothes is a reliable indicator, but I know of one dive I got credit for without that happening and one in which I didn’t get credit but my clothes changed anyhow.

The only way I know of to reliably get full credit is to make a list (paper or digitial) and go through all the dives again. All of them. I had 35/38 at first. I went through them all again and ended up with 37/38. I went through a third time and found the one I missed.

tl;dr it’s super annoying if you don’t get 38/38 on the first try, because you have to go through them all again. But you will get them all if you are very careful and methodical.

I also received the fake mail today. Reported it. Maybe a separate folder in the mailbox for messages from Anet would help. The mailbox design at Eve may be used as a reference point…

Here’s the thing: this is a social problem, not a technical one. It’s not going to be mitigated by technology alone, not even with the best design. As long as there are people who believe whatever they read, there will be scammers phishing for the gullible. All ANet can really do is make it easier on the majority of folks who need an easy way to distinguish legit official mail from the fake ones.
