Funny how there was so much rage on the forums about the Aviator arm thing during April Fools in game and on the forums, and now when I bought the box on the gem store, everyone seems to be loving it.

That’s not my experience:

  • The rage (on the forums & in-game) about April Fool’s was from people forced to participate.
  • The praise (on the forums and in-game) about the Box o’ Caps comes from those who loved the April Fool’s (and/or didn’t get a chance to play on the 1st).

This is an example of how vast and diverse the community is, not of any sort of irony.

Shatterer no loot with Gold event credit

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Both chest can also go missing if the character doesn’t do any other event.

That’s a pretty nasty bug there if that’s the truth… Strange that I don’t see any mentions of bugs on the shatterer wiki page?

It’s not a bug and it’s not directly related to the Shatterererererer. It’s an aspect of Diminishing Returns (which is on the wiki): if you keep doing the same event repeatedly, without moving around, you end up losing out on the event’s karma, xp, and bonus rewards (including the ‘bouncy’ chest on your screen & the ground chest).

This is easy to see at Rhendak’s tomb: takes up to 15 minutes per spawn (waiting + fight + inventory) and sometimes people get only two events in a row before getting nothing (other times, I’ve gone as many as 14 days in a row without DR). Change characters or leave the map (even to WvW) for ‘enough’ time, and you can return. (How much is ‘enough’ and how long it resets for is not well understood.)

This could be what’s affecting the OP from getting loot from Shatterer, but doesn’t sound likely from their description, unless they also did the event several times within the same 24 hours (that would accelerate DR, near as I can tell from my limited testing). The easy way to test this would be for the OP to swap toons for that event or have that toon head for something else for ~1 hour of playing time (not afk or offline).

If it’s not DR, I’m not sure what it is nor whether Customer Service could help. Worth filing an in-game /bug report and filing a Support ticket, imo.

tl;dr could be Diminishing Returns (and that can be tested); if it’s not, it’s probably going to be tricky to figure out.

Good luck and please let us know what (if anything) you discover, to better help the next person.

Maybe put the warning at the top of the message, rather than the bottom, Gaile? It can be easy to miss if you go into a blind panic. I got one of those messages, and I was scared for a few seconds before I realized it was fake.

It won’t matter where they put the warning, even if it’s bold/flashing/neon/watermark. People get used to ignoring it, since they get so many legit messages from other players.

The more intrusive the warning, the more it annoys people, but without adding extra protection (at least, not after the first week or two).

tl;dr people have to take some responsibility for their own security; trust (but verify).

I think playing against yourself in PvP would count as match manipulation (maybe not). It’s no problem in PvE, since, as you note, you have to keep both alive against the environment.

Regardless, as long as both accounts are in the same region, PvP/PvE aren’t affected; it only matters for WvW.

@Inclupatus: sure, it’s difficult, but it can be done (and it’s easier for people familiar with the game, profs, etc.)

I like how you guys are asking the game to be changed because you have no self control.

Even if that was true (which, as explained by others, it isn’t for everyone), would that be so bad? The game has made other changes to make things more convenient, easier, or more comfortable for people. Seems to me that helping people to control impulse purchases would help a lot of people save up for bigger purchases, which in turn would reduce some of the whining about prices being too high.

That said, I doubt ANet will change this; they have been really clear they want us to use the wallet and recent changes have doubled-down on that decision, for good or bad.

It’s not even worth discussing whether ANet’s involved directly in any markets. There are dozens of easier ways for them to adjust scarcity and demand that serve the game and its community better.

The original post is asking about what’s going on with BL chest. There, too, there are several more plausible explanations that don’t include manipulation.

Unless folks have additional evidence that we aren’t seeing, I’d have to say there’s not even enough data to warrant further investigation. (Not that those claiming manipulation seem prepared to trust ANet’s word about whatever they might find.)

Font of Rhand mortar bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Bump.

Standing on the Ice and relogging just ports you elsewhere in the zone when you log back in. Fix the quest.

I’ve seen reports of that happening to three people (including yourself). The vast majority of times, people stand on the ‘floor’ above the water, logout, and when they return, they are in the water. (Maybe there are bad places and good places to stand — I haven’t tested that much.)

Alternatively, get one of the frequent ports to Rhendak’s Tomb and work you way backwards. From that side, you can open the gates yourself without doing any of the tasks.

Of course, it would be far better if they fixed the mortar, but until that happens, the work-around seems to do fine for the most part.

Watchwork Marionette vista is unreachable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

With 1-2 exceptions, the trick I’ve learned for vistas (and even most jumping puzzles) is:

  • If it looks impossible, I’m doing it wrong.

Nearly all the time, the solution is to try from a different spot or angle. Now that you can experiment with the FOV slider, try that, too — it can make some jumps really easy to see (and others really difficult to find).

I don’t think this one is ‘easy’ — it’s definitely challenging, but it’s also much easier if you can get someone to show you where to jump from.

Ranger Pet Names

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I don’t think it’s a closed topic. When the game launched, they used programming/data-storage shortcuts to get it out the door on time. It takes a lot more storage to allow the possibility of 45 ranger pet names for each of up to 64 characters on each current and future GW2 account. (Obviously, that exaggerates the likely scope.)

I’d like to recommend that you simplify the start of your post to include your request, and leave the rest as background to show why you think it’s important to the game.

Within 24 hours of sending my ticket, I received my 110 gold back, though they made it clear that they don’t give gold as a general rule. So I was very happy with the customer support.

And I actually wasn’t in battle when I sold it. It’s just a recurring problem I’ve had for a long time (about once a month) where I sell instantly and it gets listed instead. Possibly having to do with the order I tried to sell to already having sold to someone else. Normally this only costs me a couple silver, but in this case it was too much to ignore. But yeah, every time I sell torn garments now I’m going to be holding my breath.

Good to hear, Diplo; glad it (mostly) worked out for you.

Yet another noob... class suggestion?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

With the exception of Necro (that has less group utility), any class fits your criteria. I’d recommend trying three classes to start with. The following three are chosen because they feel different, have different types of pizazz/utility, and differently leveling curves:

  • Warrior: easiest to learn, easiest to max utility/DPS, lots of fun skills.
  • Elementalist: easy to play, tricky to master; tons of utility/DPS, plenty of fun skills.
  • Engineer: difficult to play, difficult to master; a lot of valuable utility for experts, plenty of DPS, some of the most interesting skills in the game.

One element of leveling that affects builds/profs enormously is the trait system. Since it’s gated substantially (doesn’t unlock automatically and access to a lot of traits is limited situationally), it has an enormous effect on some profs. Of my three recommendations, engineer is the one most affected by this. i.e. it is the one you might have to level to 80 and beyond to get the full idea.

(My personal favorite — mesmer — isn’t on the list; it is perhaps even more ‘crippled’ by lack of traits than any other.)

How to get into a FULL server?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

A lot of players logging off has NO effect on the Server being FULL or not…..please don’t spread FUD. The FULL status is based on actual ACCOUNTS assigned to that home server and has NOTHING to do with how many players are currently logged in that are assigned to that server (this is a common misconception that causes no end of heartache for those wanting to transfer to FULL servers).

I hate to make this worse, but someone HAS to transfer OUT of a FULL server for a slot to free up. THEN you have to beat the other some odd hundreds (maybe thousands?) of players that are also sitting at the transfer screen trying to get in for that ONE slot.

Now if you can convince half a dozen players on that server to transfer out all at once, you may get lucky. but them logging off the game does NOTHING to effect a server being FULL or not.

That’s a misleading way of putting it:

  • The server status is not directly affected by logging out. The server status takes time to update and logging out/back takes time, so people will see server status changing after relogging.
  • The server status is made up of several factors, including number of accounts tied to the server. If that was the only factor, TC would always be full and would not allow transfers.

On a practical basis, none of that matters to someone trying to transfer. The important things to know are:

  • Try the transfer button, regardless of what the status says.
  • Be persistent.
  • Anti-peak hours (when the target region is asleep/at-work) are more likely, but not guaranteed.
  • Peak hours are less likely, but not impossible.
  • It helps to get a large (40-100+) group to logoff just as you start to try.

Dont make Dungeons Harder-More builds Viable

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I see a lot of people here saying that the only way to kill the Zerker Meta is to make dungeon content harder (less stacking in corners, and less DPS stats),

A lot of people also say they want a subscription, easier achievements, and free gems. Doesn’t mean that’s what ANet is going to give us.

In any case, there isn’t any single reason why Zerker is the meta, which means any single change to the game won’t “fix” the problem. It could make another stat combo the meta, but one single thing won’t eliminate the problem of one combo being most efficient.

  • Stacking increases damage more efficiently, because it’s easier to apply group buffs, especially with combos.
  • Active defense allows people to forgo support-ish/defensive-stats.
  • Slow-moving and slow-casting NPCs allow players to overwhelm foes.
  • Traditional AI allows players to outmaneuver NPCs easily.
  • Standard programming allows players to become familiar with NPC behavior, but NPCs don’t adapt to player behavior.

Another way to put it: it’s almost inevitable that something will be more efficient than everything else, because players learn PvE faster than developers can change the content.

BTW, the ping number we show in the client on the options screen is probably different than you see in other games. We should name it something different. Traditionally the ping time is the time it takes for a packet to get to a server and back. In our case, it is the time to get to the server, get processed by the game map you are in, and then sent back. So our misnamed “ping” is much more variable than most ping numbers because it includes game processing time.

Call it “ping pong” instead, since it includes ‘ping’ time and ‘pong’ is a game.

Is this a good or bad thing?

It’s good for someone(s), including players who have no need of 100+ chests and can sell some off to pay for this/that. It’s bad for reasoned discussion on the forums, because some people will declare ‘manipulation’ without any evidence other than the supply/price changes, and no amount of logic will convince them there are other possibilities.

omg i thought a was alone in this

Had 557 gold at start of the week, got lucky sold colossus and a lot of shadow abyss… yesterday before log off i had 2070 gold or so… this morning i had 500 left ! made a ticket but no answer after 5 hours wainting…. im panicking

Come on, are you serious, Chris Cleary has already outed you for being a 3rd party gold buyer.

OP; that’s probably the reason you lost gold too. Gold doesn’t vanish; if you sincerely can say and prove you haven’t purchased gold from a 3rd party, I suggest a support ticket, otherwise bow your head in shame…

This is simply Anet cracking down on illegal gold purchases.

Actually, reela commented before Cleary posted ANet’s new tactics/policy; the blistering reply to reela’s original post came later still.

And in any case, reela isn’t the OP. The OP’s circumstances are similar — only gold is missing and a nice, round number at that — suggesting similar circumstances, but there’s no official comment yet.

I’m happy that ANet is cracking down on RMT buyers in this way: both removing their illicit gains and pointing out their just desserts (for those who try to appeal to the court of public opinion). But in this case, reela has already been punished three times: losing their money, being outed (in the original post), and again (in this post). I think we can lay off the criticism: either they got it already or they haven’t learned from the experience; nothing we say is going to change that.

  1. You don’t have to logout to ‘refresh’ the server; it does so automatically. However, the ‘display’ of the status is sometimes (often) delayed.
  2. Consequently, don’t wait for the status to show other than ‘Full’.
  3. Be persistent. The ‘status’ varies significantly during any given hour. I know people who got into TC during peak hours, when they had no luck during anti-peak hours.
  4. Anti-peak hours (when the primary region for the world is asleep or at work) are better, all things being equal. (As noted, things aren’t equal.)
  5. If you are in a big guild, see if you can arrange for a large number of people to go offline simultaneously and try as they do that. I can’t guarantee that it will work, but everyone I know who has tried it got in during that time (choose an off-peak time, to further improve your chances).
  6. Consider a Tier 2 or Tier 3 server. Many of them have great WvW matches during prime time…and won’t be full.

Good luck.

There wasn’t an official forum for GW1. At least not one that I ever found or heard about. GWGuru was the nearest thing to an official one, in that Anet staff would sometimes post there.

There was an official forum, but it didn’t launch until late in the game’s history and stopped getting much attention after GW2 came out. Guru, of course, pre-dates it and is about the only place where you could get accurate trading info, especially on high-priced skins.

However, the wiki is amazingly helpful (and usually more comprehensive and accurate, compared to guru).

Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Folks don’t seem to have read the original post. It seems that people are using the word “mount” to mean very different things.

  • A ‘toy’ that changes the movement speed of the owner. In GW2, kites fit this.
  • A ‘toy’ that changes the animation of movement, e.g. the sonic tunneler.
  • A tool that increases speed a lot and that also looks like a traditional mount, such as horses, eagles, etc. GW2 doesn’t have any of those; other games do.

I don’t have an opinion about the other two types, because those are like tonics: they are silly and don’t really affect gameplay much. I’m against the third type because GW2 NPCs don’t use mounts like that and the current movement speed seems plenty fast to me (and I main a mesmer).

Challenge Motes are bugged [merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I heard there was a bug with one of the achievements for the LS in regards to getting the boots (?).

If it’s the bug with the mote, that’s been there since day one, and we still got through it. I encountered that numerous times, so I know how people feel. The fix is to have each party member deactivate and then reactivate the storyline, and re-enter. So it’s not impossible, just irritating.

I can’t tell if you’re trolling or really just this ignorant

Why would you say that? Some people never saw the bug; the mote always worked for them. Some people saw it repeatedly, but applying the work-arounds above, they could progress the achievement. It’s only recently that the work-arounds stopped working, i.e. it got worse.

So the OP is right: some people have lumi armor. And others replying are also correct: that was then; this is now.

Ascended armor for each weight. What stats?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

If you are good at “active defense” (dodging, blinding, etc), then Berserker’s is “ideal” because it offers three useful, offensive stats, including extra power, which scales better than other offensive stats.

That’s why people keep recommending zerk for all PvE classes: it’s the most efficient, for those who play with moderately to full efficiency.

You can, of course, use any stats and be successful in PvE, so long as you know your prof well (and a bit about those around you). There are also some effective builds utilizing other stats, although they tend only to be ‘most efficient’ in niche situations.

My recommendation is:

  • If you understand your prof and active defense, go zerk. You won’t be sorry.
  • If you think you have a lot of room to grow, do not get ascended gear, until you feel confident you understand the game really well. At that point, you’ll be able to design your own build/armor setup to suit your play.
  • If you still want to get ascended gear despite the above, I’d go with Soldier’s or Celestial: the former adds defensive stats to plenty of power, while the second will ‘work’ for any build (it just won’t be the most efficient for any either).

Good luck.

Alas, you cannot. There are no exotics that can be reliably obtained right now.

I keep recommending that ANet convert underwater helms to be a wardrobe-only skin, since:

  • Requires a seventh rune (which has to be swapped with the rest of the armor)
  • Characters have always been able to breathe underwater without any special gear.

However, so far, the trend has been to slowly add new sources of breathers that are expensive, difficult-to-acquire, or both.

Anything that works as an account upgrade can’t be gifted — when you make your purchase, the gem shop database has no way to determine if the account to which you are gifting already has that upgrade.

So there would be no way to prevent you from spending a bunch of gems on something that your buddy already acquired. Your best bet is to send gold so your friend can purchase their own gems. Not as efficient, of course, but gets the job done.

LOL I found that funny, props to those who have the items, but understand that other people DONT. like I said, it should be very difficult to acquire them cause we missed out on it, but it should not be impossible.

I don’t have a lot of the exclusive items (including the Halo) and started my GW1 career too late to have any there either (well, at least, not the ones I really liked). Nevertheless, I think every game should have a few.

This is a huge game with oodles of items. There’s room for some that are exclusive, some that can only be earned, because the bulk can be acquired by anyone at almost anytime, if they are willing to pay market (or gemshop) prices.

ANet has spoken on this topic a lot: they want us to store gold in the wallet; makes it easier for them (and for us) if the account gets compromised. They don’t want to support multiple mechanics (and deal with people who can’t remember where their gold is.)

If you are saving up for a big purchase and feel the need to curb your spending, put the money down on the item. So it’s only 100g for Zap — if it sells to you, great; if not (as is likely), your money is not only squirreled away, it’s stored exactly where you plan to use it later. As you end up with more gold, you can take down the original order and add to it.

tl;dr bank storage of coin might have been convenient, but since ANet isn’t likely to change things, we should use the relevant work-arounds instead.

I loved GW1, but I don’t miss GW2 at all. I’ve gone back many times, to help people with various achievements for the HoM and each time… it hurts.

  • Very slow combat.
  • I press [space] and …instead of jumping, I follow whatever I’m targeting.
  • No massively multiplay (unless you count the towns).
  • No TP, so you have to wait (and wait and wait) to find a buyer/seller.
  • Missions that depended on NPCs who couldn’t find a path if their life depended on it (and sometimes, their lives did).

I do miss some features: saving builds, the original mesmer class (although I like GW2’s, it’s barely related to GW1’s), and all the festivals.

Strange market - need advice

I dont doubt that there are quite a few investors in quartz, I am one of them, but to believe a single player bought the majority of the 7 million quartz form the tp over the last 3 1/2 months, is simply ridiculous.

There have been many sinks added without a doubt. But to deny that even 30k gold is some insurmountable amount to invest for a few people is naive. A couple whales working together could get that easy. …

The thing that tells me it is an intentional movement of the market price as opposed to a natural upswing is the pace of the sales I got. Especially when it was moving from 40c(my lowest listings) to 1s it would go in spurts of a few copper at a time. ….

Even regular consumers usually buy in bulk, at least 1 stack, they dont buy 25 each day just because they only need 25 each day. Some propably buy the 2500 they need for a full set at once. …

I know i checked my sales on celestial gossamer insignias over the last 4 months …and i sold insignias worth over 2.5 million quartz each month, 86% of those sales were single recipes, which indicates that they were bought by consumers, not investors.

For me, thats a huge indicator that the demand for quartz is in fact substantially higher than the mere 7 million we lost over the last 4 months. …

My investment in quartz/charged sheets of ambrite/celestial recipes is propably around 3-4k gold with an actual lowest listing value around 5 times that high now.

Might sound much to some people but in the end, its just enough to cover the global demand for a couple of hours.

Anyways, if you think general demand in the last couple of months came mostly from investors, you are foolish to buy quartz now. If you think demand came from consumers, you better stock up now.

Great post, Wanze. Thanks for reminding us that the TP covers a huge number of players with a not-quite-insatiable demand for getting their stuff “now.”

This is also a pretty typical curve for an item that has a huge demand, but started out with a horrible oversupply: at first, you can’t give it away, then it gradually starts to gain value, until people panic, and the market changes completely. I think of it like pouring sand on a pile: you keep building up a mound, but at some point, the mound gets one scoop too many, and it collapses. (Same sort of “chaotic” events occur for earthquakes, quicksand, the latest popular band, certain trending hashtags, etc.)

Best Way To Get Precursor?

in Players Helping Players

  • The discount period for precursors is already over; current prices are roughly status quo from before the HoT announcement.
  • The most cost-efficient way for the average player to get a precursor is through the TP.
    • There’s no efficient way to farm foes for one.
    • The Mystic Forge is only efficient if you are willing to forge 1,000s of times and able to afford being down a few 1,000 gold if you get unlucky.

The most cost-effective way to buy off the TP is to put in the highest buy order you can afford, even if it’s far too low. Whenever you have a spare chunk of change, drop that order and add the new coin to it, so you gradually increase you buy order. Keep doing this until you are no longer willing to pay. The are several advantages to this method, mostly psychological:

  • Putting the buy order “hides” your money, so you don’t end up spending as quickly on impulse purchases or other ‘extras’.
  • This method gradually increases your offer, so you are less affected by the sticker shock reported in the initial post.
  • You end up checking the TP much less frequently, which makes it much less frustrating. Further, since you can reserve those checks for when you’re adding money, you’ll only see progress towards your goal.
  • There’s also a small chance you’ll end up getting the item for far less than you expected (due to sudden market shifts, supply increases, or even a lucky error or accident).

The rest of the time can be spent doing stuff that is fun for you, which might include intensive farming. Or not.

I’m sorry that you had trouble with your account and with getting in contact with ANet. Obviously, that sort of frustration affects your enjoyment of the game.

Based on my own experiences and reading (way too) many forum posts, I believe your experience is unusual. If you can, I’d urge you to give the game (and support) another chance. The game is a lot of fun and I’d hate for you to miss out because of this.

wvw bug is getting annoying... (recorded)

response of anet.
“By reviewing the video you sent I noticed you are awarded WXP at some points during the fight which makes me believe is probably a display bug not showing the earned experience when capturing the points”

…..

i’ve lost to much wxp alrdy because of this.

Your video cuts off the two events too soon; it doesn’t give anyone enough time to see what happened (or what didn’t happen). I don’t see the medallion pop up, but I do see other signs that you got credit. It might be worth:

  • Putting something on your watch list (e.g. tower capture) so you can see if the game is at least giving you credit for the achievement.
  • Opening up the wvw window and displaying the third tab, that shows wxp — that way you can see (and show) whether that is increasing after captures or not.

Do keep filing the in-game reports via /bug — although you won’t get a personalized response, ANet will need that data if they have any hope of troubleshooting.

I realize that the situation is extremely frustrating, but as you can see, there aren’t reports of this happening to others. This could mean it’s unique to you or just that others just aren’t as observant. Either way, it’s not going to get resolved quickly.

This game has hardly anything left that could only be acquired from a single event. Many of the one-time shinies can be bought with laurels or on the TP.

I think a good game should have a few items that demonstrate “yes, I was there for that special occasion.” That’s an awesome perk for those with the right amount of RL luck (to be able to play at that time) and the dedication to the game.

Gifting Gems through game store

Illconceived Was Na.9781

There are lots of different vendors that sell gem cards, as noted on the wiki . Nearly all of them can go out of stock, so keep trying. Once you have the card, you can send the unlock code to someone else.

Generally speaking, you are able to gift anything that sells in the gem shop except for account unlocks (mail carriers, finishers, storage upgrades, …).

We can’t gift gems directly because gems can be acquired with coin, which means there’s no value to the game (or the community as a whole) to have the feature: if you want to donate to a friend, send them gold; if you want to gift them, use the gem shop feature to do just that.

Well, let me put it this way then. I run Teq every single day, and have done so for many, many, many months. I get there about 15-20 minutes before reset every night, and I can count on both hands the number of times whirlpools have not spawned.

So, use the time I normally get there, and you are almost guaranteed whirlpools.

Wow, we ended up on different maps. I can count on one hand the number of times there were whirlpools.

Anyhow, this misses the main point: the whirlpools don’t happen all the time; you have to keep an eye out for them and remember to move towards danger (instead of away). Once sucked down, you also have to remember to run away from the surface, instead of to the safety above.

playing GW2 just cuz it's not subscription?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I read a thread about the supposition that what if GW2 turns into subscription?

and literally everyone on the thread, not even one exception, answered they’d leave and don’t look back until it’s not subscription again, saying they’d play WOW or etc

so, i’ve recently been thinking i’m losing a bit of interest in this game, and just playing daily pvp. and I concluded the reason is very little reward. I mean, in case of pvp, maybe pvp leaderboards can be seen ingame. that would inspire me so much to play. since I don’t see any progress on my position ingame, when i win I think yay, and when i lose I feel ‘maybe next time’, and that’s all. maybe that’s exactly what Anet intended but we still can see the leaderboard on forum, and why not ingame?

back to my main point, I wonder if you guys are thinking GW2 is not fun enough to subscribe. or does monetary system have nothing to do with fun?
I want your opinions cuz if people are playing GW2 not because it’s fun, but because it’s soso, but free(after purchased at first), it sounds a bit sad

You must have read a different thread than I did. People offered a variety of opinions on the topic.

For me, one of the selling points of GW2 is that there is no sub fee, so I am not obligated to pay 120/year just to keep playing. I am willing to forgo some of the advantages of sub-based MMOs.

I really enjoy the game, but I cannot afford to pay 10-15 bucks every month for an MMO (or I’d have to give up something else, which I’m not willing to do).

Thus, I’m not playing a boring game just because it’s free. I’m playing a great game that I can afford to play.

However, that misses another point that people are making in the other thread: ANet designed the game and marketed it based on having no subscription. If suddenly they changed that, it would feel like a bait and switch (and arguably, it would be) — people would have an intense emotional reaction to being treated that way, which affects one’s ability to enjoy the game.

In other words, it’s not so much that the game isn’t worth 10 or 15 dollars/month, it’s that people didn’t sign up for that.

Ascended gear - yes or no?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

No, unless:

  • You regularly do Fractals L40+
  • You run dungeons to set speed clearing records.
  • You play in a highly competitive WvW environment, specifically with a strongly coordinated team.
  • You have tons of excess wealth and you’re looking for a new long-term project.

Ascended weapons are a better deal, if you really want to go ascended. Even then, for the money, you might want to target some other type of shiny goal: mini collections, mystic forge weapons, etc
