Funny, at the time, the story of Living World Season One was decried as terrible. Even after it finished. It only became ‘good’ years later. Might be a case of ‘grass is always greener’, or something.

You may be very pleasantly surprised by the location of Expansion Two.

Welcome return, and good luck.

It was my least favorite zone in GW1, but yeah, it changed a lot… even so, I want to get back to Elona again, I loved that place, and Cantha in GW2 should look even more crazier than in GW1. Tyria (continent not world) looks like a normal (yet very VERY beautiful) fantasy world, while Elona feels like something tottally new! and Cantha looks promissing in GW2, even if there is a bunch of Asian themed MMO’s nowadays.

Anyway, let me go to the land of the golden sun please!

You might have considered/consider using a spoiler tag; not everyone wants to know what’s coming. =)

Or the fictional player could just say, “Lesson learned”, and stop AFK-farming. It’s pretty clear the User Agreement forbids unattended play, no matter how the players may wish to interpret that.

If the GMs find one has broken the rules, and instituted a short vacation, there’s little to be gained from trying to fight it; the vacation will be over before, likely, it is resolved in the player’s favor, and unless said player is planning on breaking more UA rules, the mark on the account means little to nothing.

Class 1 Magic Rift (Current Events)

in Living World

Inculpatus cedo.9234

It doesn’t matter if the map is completed; you don’t need the compass to find Rift events. Anytime you see the little orange circle/star marker on a map, it may be a Rift event. Rift events happen in almost every map, including Cities.

There have been several threads from player lamenting about ‘broken events’, in all sorts or maps, only to find out these are Rift events.

Again, one can always ask in Map Chat if another player would be willing to open a Rift to start the ‘quest’.

Player skill level/class knowledge decline

ArenaNet (as well as we) can probably, and did, judge what the playerbase desires by the reaction to the last expansion, and adjusted the content previously released, and the subsequent releases. ArenaNet also provides the more challenging content for those seeking said challenges in the form of Raids and higher level Fractals.

It doesn’t seem like a terrible idea to cater to all different kinds of players, if possible. Something for (most) everyone probably sells better than just something for the select few. /shrug

Jumping Puzzles Suck in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inculpatus cedo.9234

Inculpatus cedo.9234

Chalice of Tears was said by Anet to be intended to “make players cry”. Presumably they (Josh?) decided that the way to make that JP really difficult is to not show any kind of path, and not allow the players to guess which terrain they can safely land on and which terrain they can’t. Not having terrain that is consistent with the rest of the game simply makes this JP more “fail until you get it right”. Unfortunately “failing” in this puzzle often = death so it is more annoying than many.

I personally wouldn’t even comment on JPs if they didn’t have content locked behind them. If they were purely optional, I wouldn’t care how hard they were as I would simply not do them.

If that’s the case, I have a recommendation for him.

For his next paycheck, he has to complete Super Meat Boy, except when his little squishy avatar gets murdered, he doesn’t get the instant reset, but instead has to run around the ANet campus before his next iteration. Then maybe some elements of humane design might sink in, instead of antagonizing the players with deliberately defying recognized conventions of good design. :\

You might consider watching the latest Guild Chat to hear what Josh Foreman has to say about Jumping Puzzles and their design.

At least, I think is was in the latest Guild Chat. If not, it was in a podcast he did some time ago. (Link found on the Divinity’s Reach Wiki page.)

I don’t know if you’re on a free to play account or not, but if you are on a paid account you get laurels every few days of logging in. You can spend those at a Laurel vendor in Lion’s arch for example (southern bit of the map) to buy ascended accesories for a pretty large stat boost. Without HoT it’s probably easiest to get exotics through dungeons or outright buying them from either Orr karma vendors (limited stat combos) or the trading post.

If you do ever wish to get ascended items (it’s for later really.. I’ve been playing on and off since launch, only have 2 full ascended chars). Ascended weapons give a meaningful stat boost, the same is true for trinkets. Armor is hardly worth it due to the tiny stat difference on those.

I do want to add that Heart of Thorns provides you with 1 lvl 80 booster that also comes with a box with a full set of exotic gear and weapons/trinkets. Plus the Heart of Thorns maps give a lot more access to exotic equipment in general (either from map rewards or achievements), even some fairly easy ascended weapons.

FYI: Play4Free accounts can not post on the forums, so if you see anyone post, you can be sure they have a paid account. =)

If skill level/knowledge is declining, it must be because there are so many new players. Which is a good thing, no? That, or the playerbase contracted a widespread case of amnesia?

Though, this seems contrary to what the Devs have stated, more than once: that the skill level of the playerbase is ever-increasing, and that’s why they are offering more challenging content. Of course, maybe that’s been misinterpreted. /shrug

Scrap Farming: How Do You Pass the Time?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Inculpatus cedo.9234

I suppose, if I were ever to farm a mat, I would play in the map that offers it as a Map Event Reward, give the pertinent loot bags to my L53, salvage the level-appropriate gear myself, salvage or sell the rest on the TP, sell extra mats on TP, and then buy any extra material I needed. Or I might craft some of the collection gear that sells very well, and use the Gold to buy what I need.

I certainly would not target a specific type of mob. That’s just too slow for me. It’s not like it used to be in Guild Wars, but maybe that’s because I was often farming for Trophies, rather than mats, and those seem to drop more often. /shrug

Still, if it is so very onerous, the reward can’t be worth doing. Thus, just don’t do it. The metrics will be all that ArenaNet needs.

At least there’s guaranteed progression. Could be RNG like some certain Spoons that can take forever to drop.

What would be your idea to keep players in a particular map for a couple of weeks without repeating content?

One thought: Don’t try to attain the backpack in just 16 days. Spread it out over 2 or 3 months so it does not seem quite so repetitive.

Pro-tip: Never try key-running.

Good luck.

I completely agree. It’s like “Hungry Hal” – everyone complained what a grind it was to run back and forth with one apple 50 times in a row. But no one said you had to do it 50 times in a row. When I feel like going back to that map, I run Hal 2 or 3 apples. Eventually I’ll have it done. I see no benefit in having it done faster.

No, people were upset to see that type of quest in GW2. I can remember people saying there’s no difference to other generic MMORPG starter quests. Many other games have some pretty interesting story lines in quests that might or might not include grind. But Anet decided to implement a ridiculous “gather 0/50 apples and bring them over there” quest with absolutely no story at all.

The same with the druid runestone. You’ll hear some lines of the druid but doing the same freaking starter heart quest 64 times has absolutely no value in terms of storytelling or gameplay. It’s just insulting, that’s how bad it is. 64 times: kill 0/30 mercenaries. kill 0/30 spiders. kill 0/30 inquest researchers. Wow. That’s the best game design I’ve ever seen.

A game that claims to be different, but introduces you to the most ridiculous, never ending tasks in its end game PVE zones, that’s what GW2 is right now. If that’s the direction Anet chose, it’s really, really sad to see what “Guild Wars” 2 has become – I don’t even want to call it Guild Wars anymore. And I hope for everyone that the next expansion will bring some fresh air.

This post states, and I quote, “the same freaking starter heart quest 64 times”. It’s not the first time, either. Not 4 Renown Hearts, but the same heart 64 times.

It’s a bit like the exaggeration when saying one must do the same Renown Heart 303 times to get World Map Completion.

Perhaps, the Devs would appreciate your ideas on how, exactly, to create a quest that keeps players in the map with no repetition, and does not take years to create.

Regardless, good luck with your suggestion.

At least be factual; it’s not the same Renown Heart 64 times. It’s 4 Renown Hearts 16 times each. Again, if found boring, or too repetitive, don’t do them 16 days in a row.

Or, better yet, forego the Backpack and skin, if it causes this much distress.
