There’s a couple of different ways to look at this:
ANet’s Point of View
- ANet needs to pay for new content, so they charge a nominal amount for LS chapters, $US10 max (for all chapters & maps in LS3), same as the cost of a new character.
- To make the cost more attractive, the maps are also gated (along with different local map currencies that offer various benefits).
- ANet would like to reward loyal players and one way they can do so is by making the LS chapters free for those who logon just once during the release period.
New Player PoV
For a new player, it can be difficult to see the logic: “I bought the game, why don’t I get the entire game?” And to be fair: the distinction is a bit arbitrary.On the other hand, when you buy either HoT or PoF from ANet, it’s made clear that there’s an extra cost for the LS.
Alternatives to Charging for LS & Maps
The alternative is that ANet charges more for the base cost of the expacs — that doesn’t go down well with veterans, who probably spend the most RL money on gems, one of the major sources of revenue for the game.
In the end, ANet needs to accept that they are going to alienate a few people by gating maps behind the LS (& its costs). At the same time, players are going to have to accept that ANet is a business — they have to charge for more things than we’d like.
Anet could put a season pass option when you purchase an expac. As you said 10 USD for the lw as well. It can be a pop up window when you go putchase the expac.
They already offer the Season Two bundle on the purchase page when you go to buy the expansion. I’m not sure why they don’t offer Season Three Episodes 1-5, but maybe it is because Season 3 is still active, and they would have to create 2 separate bundles (Episodes 1-5 and Episodes 1-6 [later]). /shrug
I would suggest leveling a character (or more) from 1 to 80. The ‘cool’ stuff would probably be the upcoming expansion for most players.
The changes are too many to list. For a broad overview, you can peruse the ‘Release’ page(s) (link above).
Race does not matter; whatever you enjoy the most. All core Professions are viable; again, it is what you enjoy. Some are easier, some more complex to master.
You may be confusing Dynamic Events with Living World. Living World Season 1 is gone, and not replayable. Seasons 2 and 3 are available for Gems, acquired either with cash or the Gold-to-Gems exchange in-game. Most of the Dynamic Events are still available.
You can gain access to Heart of Thorns by purchasing the expansion; you can also purchase the Heart of Thorns/Path of Fire bundle at a savings of $10 presently.
No idea what you mean by transfer to digital…sorry.

If you said LS2 that would’ve made sense. I seriously think LS2 shouldve been bundles into HoT special edition, and LS3 shoulve been bundled into PoF special edition.
Well they do give you 4k gems with the deluxe editions of HoT and PoF
More accurately, 4000 Gems are included in the Ultimate Editions, but not the Deluxe Editions. =)
Or, it might make more sense to the Devs to save the time and resources to implement such a thing, when all a player has to do is log into another character, or use the existing options to put nearly all crafting disciplines on, at most, two characters.

The advantage would be buying Heart of Thorns in a bundle with Path of Fire for a $10 savings in cost.
You should see your L80 Boost once you log into the game, again. If not, just wait a few hours, log out and log in, again. Though, as a new player, I’d suggest only using it after leveling one or two character naturally.

I’m not sure it’s even $90. Core – free/HoT + PoF – $50/Living World Seasons 2+3 – ~$25 for a grand total of ~$75.00. Almost the cost of a console game nowadays, which is around 30-40 hours vs. thousands of hours.

The issue of needing to wait a little while to use a two-factor auth code should be resolved. Please let us know if you still have any time-based issues with two-factor auth.
Just in case, I’ll also remind anyone who altered or removed two-factor auth from their GW2 account that if you want to re-enable it, you also have to reset/re-synchronize your mobile app’s code for GW2.

One for each expansion would be two. One for Heart of Thorns, and one for Path of Fire. Unless one has purchased extra Shared Inventory Slots, one would have only two after having purchased both expansions.
No free Shared Inventory Slot was given when they were first introduced in January of 2016. The Spring 2016 Quarterly Update on April 19, 2016 added a free slot to accounts with Heart of Thorns unlocked, and raised the limit of purchasable slots to 10.

i have 355 hps with my guardian, it would be kinda silly to have the full spec just at the beggining of the expansion, i’m assuming it will be 400 or probably 300
Proof of heroics.
Everybody could manage to have em Since the first login.According to the devs Proof of Heroics won’t work for unlocking PoF HPs; they will be introducing a new currency to WvW for that.
Can you site the source for that? Reason I ask is because that doesn’t seem to make sense. Proofs unlock the Hero Points for you. It’d be the same as going over to the Hero Point and activating it yourself. If we’re going to be using hero points, then Proofs would work.
I’m starting to think that Hero Points are not going to be the way to unlock the Elites then.

Another reason, I would suppose, is that it would be deemed unfair to remove the Achievement for completing all the Jumping Puzzles for those that completed it, when adding new Jumping Puzzles. Or, it would be deemed unfair that some players only had to complete 34 JPs, and later players had to complete 46 JPs for the Achievement.
There are Achievements, though, for completing the newer Jumping Puzzles; they just are found in a different section of the Achievements panel.

Most players that received Living World Season 3 purchased Heart of Thorns at launch (with free Living World Season 3) – $50.00 (plus Path of Fire [$30.00] – total $80.00)
New players – purchase Heart of Thorns – $30.00 + LW Season 3 – $10.00 (total – $40.00) or Heart of Thorns/Path of Fire bundle – $50.00 + LW Season 3 – $10.00 (total – $60.00)
Seems like many new(er) players got a (total cost) deal compared to ‘Veterans’.
Do you have the required Mastery Point? I don’t believe you can show progress on other tracks until you unlock the previous track.

Many players park characters at locations just to gather materials or open chests, etc. Others may load a character in, and then use a Waypoint to go elsewhere.
There is no way to see a list of all players in a map. You can add players to your various ‘Friends’ lists by either typing the name (character or Display name), or clicking on the character, then right-clicking on the name at the top of the screen, or right-clicking a name in chat.
If you feel a player is breaking the EULA, you can use the ‘report’ option.

The content isn’t going anywhere. The reason some suggest leveling a character naturally first is because, often, taking a new Boosted character into end-game content results in frustration, and many defeats. There’s plenty of time to level a character to 80 before the expansion drops.
Try using the trial in The Silverwastes to get an idea of what to expect. If you do fine, go ahead. If you have difficulties, try leveling normally.

There really are no ‘quests’ to pick up, and yes, you can enter any map you choose; the only gate will be your ability to survive. (With the exception of expansion content, and the associated Living World Season maps, of course.)

That is what I was wondering this morning. We do know that they will fill up one trait line first then go back for the other 2, so you can get a master one ASAP. People have said the HP challenges were 1 HP each, vets rather than champs, and they reset daily but we do not know if that is what we will get next Friday.
I think it was WP that was speculating we might do a collection this time so they have a bit of meaning? Or maybe that was for their items?
The Hero Challenges were worth 10 Hero Points in the Path of Fire Demos/Stress Tests.

Hi guys,
Let me first say that i know that due the incoming expansion many tickets are delayed.
Personally i have 2 or 3 old tickets and it should be at least 20 day since the first of em, and i guess many other players are in my current situation.
I am not in a hurry, and this post is not meant to put pressure on the team, nor is made of Salt.
I would just be grateful if you could share news about the situation with the community ( knowing and somehow be part of it is way better than be left alone by ourselves).

Why do you need to log onto different characters for crafting one discipline? It’s not like your Necromancer, Mesmer and Elementalist each have to craft their own Ascended light armor. One can craft it, and give it to the others.
Or are you expecting to bypass the daily limit on crafting certain items by logging into a different character with the same crafting discipline at 500?
You have to wait a day, or more specifically, until after the next reset.

I don’t know if you mean mechanically, or story-wise, but one can play Path of Fire (including the Story) without ever touching foot in Heart of Thorns, and/or any of its corresponding content (Season 3). This is evident by the fact that one need not own HoT to purchase, and play, PoF.

Danikat’s advice is sound….except, if you have any Path of Fire Demo characters, as Just a Flesh Wound noted. You won’t be able to transfer at no cost if those characters are still in the system, and it sounds like they still are.
It’s possible there may be another Stress Test in the future; if so, and you have Demo characters, make sure to delete them before the Stress Test ends.

I still don’t get it. If you have 100s of Instant Repair Kits, why would you need to visit a Repair NPC? One can use an Instant Repair Kit where one stands.
Not to mention, they are already sold by ArenaNet; what would incentivize ArenaNet to offer basically the same thing in-game?

It’s also not a hardship to spend ~$10.00 for content released over the course of a year (or two, if you want to count the time since Heart of Thorns released).
