Guesting on TC (please don’t hate me, just couldn’t resist saying it)
We need a cleave. I say give us a scythe with cleave effects. We have “fake” scythes with a few staff skins, but why not the real thing. Hopefully we’ll see with a future expansion.
I run necro regularly as my main and have used MM build quite frequently before any patch, after some patches, and as recently as yesterday. I can honestly say that they are still very buggy. Often my bone minions act more as cheerleaders watching the fight than actually participated (which sucks because I often blow them up and hate when they blow up too far away from the agro to score a hit).
It also does’t seem to make a big difference on where I am in the battle. I’ve run with dagger MH (so close melee), staff (far distance) and recently been running axe to test that out with new buffs (mid-range). My minions act about the same with all three of those weapons.
They don’t have a bad ai. They just don’t respond the way you think they should. Remember they are single target utilities, not pets designed to follow your targeting so they respond differently.
I’m not trying to be difficult here, and frankly I’m not asking they follow my targeting. I simply want them to target SOMETHING. If I’m in a battle state, all I ask is that they target something (heck make it random targeting within a certain radius which would be fine). You will never convince me that a bone minion standing around doing nothing while I’m in battle is working properly.
So, ever since the latest update my good ‘ol Tarnished Coast server has become a horde of guesters. I wouldn’t mind so much except now the group events lag so much that they are barely playable and are no longer fun like they use to be in the past. And, as if that isn’t enough, half the time if I don’t go to the event 15 minutes early or better I wind up in an overflow server.
I will probably get blasted for being so negative, but this is really becoming a problem. I don’t mind the idea of guesting, but this is ridiculous and beyond the scope of it’s purpose of simply allowing friends to play with friends. Perhaps they could change the system so that guesting required an invite. This would still allow for friends to play with friends, without overloading the local population.
Simply put, I like the dailies. It gives me a few goals without restricting me. I log in to play what I like and often get a surprise when the daily completion chest comes up on my screen. In just regular play I get most of them.
Then when I know I’m going to be quitting for the day in ~15-20 minutes I see if I’m close on any of the dailies and then just go finish them. So if I have killed 18 of those 25 underwater beasties, I go underwater just to finish that up. No stress, no obligations, no real concern, just a goal I can choose to finish if I want.
Be wary, fellow necromancers. My friend got it as a drop, gave it to me since I helped him grind his hall of monuments on guild wars 1, and I’ve learned that, well, it has the same animation problem with the sycthe staff skin.
I’m starting to think anet likes to mess with us. the TWO staves perfect for us, gets animation problems. XD
Call me crazy (and I know it is a bug), but I kinda like the double scythe look.
Now, we need a real scythe as a weapon choice that has CLEAVING. Give me that and fixed minion AI and I will never ask for another thing for my necro ever again.
It’s not a load of BS. I farmed with minions for about an hour yesterday and they still display the same random stalling and sometimes not attacking at all during combat. I believe the problem is linked to pathing and this would explain why some people see the issue more than others. This would mean that obstacles and different ground geometry would cause the minions to display their buggy behavior more often and less often depending on where you are in the world. Also, I’d imagine if the AI issue is linked to minion pathing, it’s also the reason we see ranged minions, who are less dependent on pathing, working better than melee.
If you still believe that the minion AI issue is a load of BS, this is a video from about a month ago displaying the problem that I spent very little time making.
Except over the last month there have been two major minion patches to help improve their AI. Oh wait, all the videos showing bad AI are over a month old. Wait What!!!
I actually spoke with the player who did the first video, and he readily admitted that the water pathing could have been screwing it up. We also spoke about the various methods used and that the main culprit was the flesh golem. The flesh golem has seen significant improvement since that video came up, but it’s okay we know summoning the dead is one of the Necro traits so we forgiv eyou.

Still prefer dagger to axe (though a cleave would have pushed me to axe) for the damage output. Liking the minion stuff, I just hope they stealth fixed the issue with my bone minions acting as cheerleaders rather than attacking half the time. If they did that then I’m happy.
Now I just have to choose between the mobility of warhorn and the great buff to focus…choices choices choices.
February 26th, the day GW2 died. You heard it here folks!
A bit of an overreaction. Somebody I think already mentioned this, but this is not taking anything away from the game. It is adding another facet to it. It is not required, nor does it give any true advantage to players. If you want to participate, then you easily can. If you want to keep things cozy in your small group then fine.
This is frankly a larger extention of dungeons. I may want to do dungeons solo, but it requires a team to complete. It isn’t required, but I can choose to do it if I want. Another example is that I may want to participate in a tPvP tournament without a team at all, but I can’t so I need to get a group. These events are simply for much larger groups.
Not to mention that they specifically stated that non-guild members can still help and participate in guild missions, so there is still limited ability to join in the fun right there.
This is a theme for the entire game. I don’t know of any profession that has any real variety for underwater combat.
Underwater was either a gimmick or unfinished. Who knows, in future expansions we may see it fleshed out a bit more.
There are a number of posts specifically about builds and discussion. There is also a sticky thread with various builds. I suggest you check out some of the existing posts, or, if none of them fit what you want to do, then post why those builds don’t work for you and what alternative play style you’d like a build to perform.
If you use the Norn elite shape skills, are your virtues still active? Are their passives still in effect and can you use their active? Also, do your traits still work? For example if I have AH and use wolf form to grant fury to allies, will the healing kick in for adding boons?
Frankly I’m not a fan of many of the Guardian elites and based on the answers to the above I may substitute one of the Norn forms.
I’m new to Guardian and love the idea of this build (still leveling so I haven’t tried it). Now for my stupid question. What is “AH”?
Mine still like to stand around and watch the fight. Especially my Bone Minions. In other words, I still have minion cheerleaders most of the time
Mursaat
Undead (masterless)
Tengu
Honorable mention is The Forgotten
No, I’m rather pleased with the 80 cap. In the future with higher level content, perhaps, but they’d have to figure out how to adjust current highest tier equipment to compensate so that perfect sword you might have doesn’t become 10 levels from perfect or on the other hand raise to lvl 90 and then unusable by the char. until they gain them.

He corrects the charr by saying “The Pact did it. Our combined efforts made this happen.” Your character is part of the Pact.
No. The Pact lay dead at the feet of the mobs. I was the only one left standing.
And you are part of the pact. Not to mention if nothing else they were cannon fodder which bought you a little time without being the sole target for a while. That is team work if you ask me
Keep in mind that if magic find were party wide then you’d run into more discrimination in forming parties. We would see more of “if you don’t have full magic find gear then we don’t want you in our party”
I dunno what to believe.
Anet said from the start they didn’t want to expand to Cantha and Elona again because it spread the player base out too much.
They said from the start that they would never go back to Cantha or Elona in GW2, so it might still happen.
I don’t remember this being said at all. Not saying it wasn’t, but can you present a source?
Rather than filling the forum with multiple posts on the same issue, I’m trying to keep them consolidated. Frankly, the decision to make the final step a 5-man dungeon was made before I joined the story team, so I cn’t provide any insight to the reasoning.
Wow, no disrespect, but I’m not sure how this is an acceptable answer in any way shape or form. If any of my employees ever answered a question like this they would have to seriously reconsider their position. I don’t mind if you don’t know the answer, but when that happens and you are responsible to a community or group, you don’t just say “wasn’t my decision so I don’t know” you instead either seek out the answer from somebody who does know, or you simply sit quietly.
Frankly, I don’t think we are looking for somebody to blame (or at least not most of us), but would like an explanation of the logic, or if one cannot be found a promise to rectify the offending issue. Any way we can get that perhaps?
Today my game is lagging unbelievably in battle and disconnecting. Non-battle I’m fine, but when I hit a skill, it has 10-30 second lag time while my enemy pounds away at me. First time I’ve had this issue with GW2 and my internet connection is fine (disconnected, then streamed a few videos with no loss quality or lag).
1) No measurable difference is made by having small race vs. any other.
2) If you like nature, go with Sylvari. As for starter areas, they actually share 2 zones
I do think many of the issues are tied to the Staff. Since I’m primarily using D/F now, I am always initiating combat against a single static target. With Staff you run into two problems. Firstly, you aren’t directly initiating the fight. You have a mark on the ground that later triggers to deal damage. Secondly, you are more often than not hitting multiple targets at the same time. I suspect this might cause the minion AI to either freeze or select a target that is different from your actual target. That is just conjecture though.
Good observation, but I doubt that is the case. I have fun with a D/D build that puts me constantly in melee battle and I carry around Golem and other minions. When it works, it is great, but often I’m in the middle of two or three melee baddies and I notice my minions grouped up a few feet away just looking on almost like they are my cheerleaders (ugly ones at that) rather than my allies. Very frustrating.
If the profession, trait, and minion AI bugs are fixed, then yes. If not then no. Simple as that.
I don’t specifically aim for them, but usually get them just by playing. When I’m close to being done for the night I’ll check and if I’m pretty close to one, I’ll work to get it before logging out.
That happened last night, I checked and was only 1 event away from getting my last daily, so I ran around until I saw an event going on and finished that before logging out.
You don’t have to run your entire personal story “solo” until “Victory or Death”.
You can have a team of 5 through the whole story if you so wish it.
But, that’s what a guild is for right? Your guild mates?
OHHHH DARN …. what an oversight !!
Not sure what you are attempting to get at with this comment (not an insult, I’m simply confused). However the point of this topic is that throughout the Persona Story we have always had a choice. You could run with a team (guild mates if you will) or you could run solo. The choice was yours and it was viable either way. With the final completion of it, the choice was taken away and you are forced to go at it with a team.
The problem is the removal of the choice, making it so those of us with limited time or limited guild mates who want to help have to stop just before completion. This greatly cheapens the experience for us.
Guild Wars 1 was effectively killed by ArenaNet when they decided to add two new professions per chapter, plus 25 skills for each old profession.
First let me say I don’t disagree, in fact I mostly agree. However one major problem they had wasn’t just the number of skills, but the near limitless combinations. The biggest downfall was the duel professions. A necro had access to mesmer skills, ritualist to elemental skills, etc.. That became impossible for them to balance. They at least nipped that problem in the bud when they didn’t allow a secondary profession in GW2.
That said, I don’t think they will add nearly the same skills as in GW1. Hopefully they learned their lesson on that one. However adding a new weapon every so often isn’t as bad because it is still controllable as you are skill somewhat limited in combinations. In GW1, you could combine any skill with any other for limitless combinations and that was the prime downfall.
If/When there are new skills, I suspect they will come in the form of new weapon skills (at least at first) in that they will give one new weapon per profession.
I agree with many people here. I was infuriated by this and utterly shocked. I soloed all of the personal stories and was looking forward to “beating” the game. Now I need a full party and just don’t have time or resources to make this happen very easily. I’ve avoided all the dungeons up to this point for this very reason. Why oh why would A.Net do this? I would understand if other dungeons were “required” to work up to this, but no.
Extremely disappointing and will prevent me from finishing my final storyline! A.Net should be ashamed!

If anything, I think the Tengu will become a playable race when Cantha expansion is released.
This. They already stated that there will be no new playable race or new profession in the next big add to the game. They aid January and February is in preparation for this new free add that will add nearly as much as some other game’s box expansion.
After that, I think the attention will be on a Canthan expansion and that will bring in the birds.
I’d love for a MM weapon, though I don’t think every skill needs a minion, but be minion friendly (with some minion summons of course). I’m hoping for some new content in February/March that introduced one new weapon per class (necro being this) and that fixes our other minion bugs and problems.
The only thing I really wanted was a minion AI fix and nothing. That makes me a sad little necro
Since dodging is now a blast finisher, you can throw a well down, then dodge into it,
Wow, didn’t know dodging was a blast finisher. I’ll have to test tonight. When did this change (or have I just missed it all this time). Also, the wiki doesn’t list dodging as a blast finisher.
I just hate that outside of DS and down state, we have only 1 skill that specifically applies fear, however we have 2 traits that specifically enhance fear. I think this is clear evidence that originally the necro was to have more fear options, but it was taken last minute. I want my fear back, as a necromancer all should see me and despair with fear!
Give the axe a fear skill. I’d love a reason to take that weapon. The lack of fear options have bugged me since BW3 as this was a mechanic originally slated as a necro’s specialty.
I ask that our Soul Reaper bug gets fixed and for Grenth’s sake, make minion build viable with better AI and some tweaks! I so miss my GW1 necro
I’m hoping it isn’t the deep sea dragon. I expected that one to be in Cantha under the Jade Sea.
Frankly I hated it, but don’t want to discourage the making of others since some people like it. I just wish it wasn’t a requirement to complete the Halloween Special Event Achievement. That is what really causes my distress as I completed everything else and had fun doing it, but the Clock Tower just isn’t fun (for me) and the fact that it was even mentioned that it was only really for about 5% of the population makes it that much more frustrating.
Make more, but don’t make them a requirement for other achievements (or if you do, put them into the Jumping Puzzle achievement line)

There are 12 pages, that is all. Wiki can help you find them all.
I agree and would like in the home instant. Also, give us more reason to where them. The costume brawl is a good idea if something similar can be done whenever wearing town cloths. As it has been, it is a bother to switch since you can’t fight in the cloths and then you have to remember to remove them before going out again.
I like the idea, but the execution needs worked. Give me more of a reason and I will spend money on them.
Check the Wiki, all you need to know is there.
He was always dark from GW1 as for a backstory. Though I would have liked a little bit more played on his playfully dark insanity rather than the constant psycho mass murderer story they told. I think they could have done a better job of playing both sides of the story to get their point across while not making us feel guilty for loving the guy. He’s always been one of my favorite characters.
Keep in mind that in GW1 we helped him and he us when Dhuum invaded. I’d like to have some more of the side of him we saw in GW1.
This whole season is usually shot for them. After Halloween they have a small Thanksgiving thing. Then they usually have the big Chri…er Wintersday event. I see small fixes happening, but nothing earth shattering until early 2013.
I was wondering the same thing, hopefully somebody sheds some light on this as the stat numbers don’t change. In general I thought anything that effected nearby allies also effected the caster, is this an accurate statement?
Mace & Focus. Great survivability with that combination. I know the mace has a bad rep., but it is a largely defensive weapon and people don’t tend to lean towards those. But since switching to this combo as my secondary weapon, I’ve had a lot easier time of some of the tougher battles.
32 and also love the game
From my tests with death nova,
Transformations will kill pets without any death nova.
Death nova does 0 damage (unlike the 6 rune in afflicted) when it explodes the poison is now working at least. unless they add a damage component this trait is pointless.
I wouldn’t call it pointless, but without damage is is definitely not worth the Grandmaster trait slot. I’d be happy with either a damage component (preferred) or lowering it to a lower trait level.
