Difference between PvP and PvE philosophy

1. In PvP, someone has to stay on point either to contest it or keep it from being contest. All the aoe will bomb on point. It explains the bruiser/bunker aspect.

2. Pvp players have way less HP and toughness than a standard vet/elite trash mobs in PvE. Mobs when engaged, do not withdraw from the damage pressure. Pvp players when outnumbered will withdraw from the fight, reposition and create a more advantageous fight elsewhere.

3. In pvp, winning fights is as important as keeping points. It explains the superiority of rotations more than mechanical skills. In PvE, your somewhat average play can be carried by the group DPS. Your goal is very simple. Kill the subject and move on to the next.

4. There are glass cannons in pvp. Most popular ones are thieves, mesmer and power rangers. Lesser popular are killshot or greatsword/rampage warrior, static discharge engi, fresh air ele, power necro… even some pure condi builds are pretty glassy like HIGH engi, terrormancer and signet ele. They are 1v1 and plus 1 builds. They aren’t much beneficial to the team in conquest mode if team is stacked with them. On the other hands, they are strong in death match mode like Courtyard – serving the same purpose as in PvE.

The first one!

The problem with the idea of a “1 healer 4 zerkers” party setup is that the healer can only really be useful and help zerkers avoid dodging and stuff in the easy dungeons only. The idea of using a healer for zerkers breaks in content like Arah and high level FOTM. Your healer can, indeed, keep zerkers from dodging out of something like Bridgette’s retal symbol. It won’t help zerkers on something like Lupicus or Archdiviner. For that the whole party needs to be tanky, which makes run last much longer.

Basically, the only point of a 1healer 4 zerker party setup is to trivialize.. content that is already trivial to begin with. It doesn’t trivialize the more interesting dungeons at all. The net contribution of a healer on something like Lupicus is zero. If someone messed up dodging there on a zerker build, down they’ll go.
That looks rather pointless to me.

[KING] Tournament, 1healer 4zerker(I think they were RTG?) came in second, it works.

PS: I noticed in streams, that alot of players are doing the headshot->icebow strat. If you think about it, it is a very similar concept. Have the thief sacrifice all of its personal DPS just so a team can freeze a boss 1-2 extra times. It is not optimal as well but it makes encounters super easy just like the support guardian.

I thought he was playing the classic pillar guard not healer guard (PVT not clerics) and the main benefit was he was able to more easily and consistently pull off things like soloing mai trin bomb phase or keep the ettin controlled.

Also thief loses CnD when using pistol, it’s a notable damage loss but far less than sacrificing the majority of your offensive stats isn’kitten You also gain blind at parts and what not. Still able to pull off wicked backstabs and very high heartseekers, they lose the revealed training much of the time though.

No. Don’t even think of traditional rotations. Thief will lose all inititatives to remove all the defiant for the extra deep freeze. They will need to trait for improvisation and make sure that they get 1 or even two icebows to keep up the dps. Then the rest will be spamming Heartseeker until the boss is dead.

The fair comparison would be taking a mesmer for portal and bleed stacks vs. a healer guard.

And if you buff it to something actually useful, it would make warriors even more close to banner kittenes.

Until they give a Warrior any more utility than might and banners, you might as well buff the banners a little and give us some variety in which ones we can use. Right now it’s as simple as Green>Red>Purple>Orange, in fractals it could definitely be of use to have condition duration.

So you want to use 3 banner builds?

When you low-man fractals, condi is very very strong.

Forgive me for this but i’m reposting an idea I had a few months back. I posted it on the Warrior forum but (not) surprisingly it didn’t get any replies for it.

Original:

I’m sitting in a level 37 fractal right now and 3-manning it with my guild. We got to talking about useful condi in PvE. Vulnerability, Blinds, Weakness. I don’t feel like there’s much use for the 170 healing power on Banner of Tactics, I don’t directly heal people except for the occasional use of Inspiring Battle Standard for regen when ranging a boss, and water blasts more than out heal anything the banner can provide. I feel like Tactics being changed to +10% Boon Duration / +10% Condi Duration could be a viable change. It would not only allow PvE warriors to bring another form of utility to a party, but it could also potentially have use as an alternate utility skill for condi warriors. Just thinking out loud here, what’s everyone’s opinion?

Original thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Suggestion-Tactics-Banner-Condi-Duration

It’s a neat idea. It would see a lot more use in Zerg vs. Zerg. Even though I think +10% Boon duration / +10% Condi duration seems a bit too humble. In my opinion, +15-20% wouldn’t break the game, considering where to condi duration matters the most (i.e. WvW) already see the frequent use -40% condi duration food. In SPvP, you need to spec heavily for +100% condi duration as well.

If You Want to Win...

in PvP

Iris Ng.9845

Umm… If your team is unable to win a team fight, 2v2, 3v3, etc, don’t play for 3 points and get killed across the map.

This is illogical.

If you team can’t win a 3v3 then they are most likely not winning a 4v4. Your only hope is forcing the other team to have better rotations.

Not really, the reason for most small encounter failure is not mechanical skill but counter comp and spreading your force out when you have a better chance to focus fire a troublesome player is a bad idea. To illustrate this point, an ele trying to hold close backed up by a thief getting stranded by the enemy shatter mesmer and power ranger. The r espawned war and guard instead of plus two the fight went to mid to attempt a decap from a power necro. After killing off the thief and the ele at home, enemy mesmer and ranger snowballed to mid. Meanwhile, the fifth mesmer tries to get a decap at far by 1v1 the enemy shoutbow warrior. It lasts for eternity and he can’t get a decap, and eventually gets plus one and dies. Playing three points needs a good communication and rotation as well. Insisting on playing three points when losing team fight across the map is just dumb. Team fight >> point.

Brigid and Turmaine can be reaaaaaaaalllllly mean to squishy zerker ele. It is really nice to see no down at all in a casual run.

An average casual full zerker group also finishes this path in approximately 7-8 minutes.

A full zerker super try hard group, in comparison, finishes this path in under 5 minutes

But then considering the compromise of one guard DPS, the run is surprisingly fast and smooth. But then, fight is only a small part in CM anyways.

Umm guys,

I’ve been running with Oli for a while. Even though their team comp sounds odd for your ears, Oli is a very good guardian, and she really means it as “pressure-free full dps”. The group has consistently between 18-23k DPS even at the cost of a guardian dps. Their time is equal, if not better than some of the daily dungeon tours on both sides of the shore.

I know some of you come here just to find a funny topic to trash talk about. But if you ever find a genuine interest in the OP, I hope that comes with respect.

Pretty much all the elementalists I encounter do RtL – Updraft – BS … Whyyyyyyy? It’s the most predictable move ever! It’s super easy to counter or dodge, and in addition wasting updraft for this is terrible. There are so many better ways to land BS, and you should always keep updraft for when it is actually needed.

So I asked my ele master for a duel yesterday when I was on my d/p thief. If I open in stealth, he would open in Air → Shoking Aura → dodge in Air → Lightning Whip. If I ever disengage, Burning Speed+ Lightning Flash → Ring of Fire → Frozen Burst. And with chill, I would get stuck in my short bow forever and it’s the easy win for the ele who keeps on pressuring. 10/10 I lost as a d/p thief when the ele hardly needs any healing outside of regen and signet of restoration. The burning condition from d/d ele is very very strong that most d/d ele I won against don’t even have a good use of it. Instead their moves are very predictable. I could dodge the updraft, earthquake and even evade magnetic grasp with positioning.

Hey really nice guide/build. Tried it out yesterday on my old ele and it was a blast. My only problem is (… and that might have something to do with me not playing my ele for almost half a year) that I dont know what to do when im not cycling through my combos. It feels like this build only works if you are attuned to fire and at least 2 other attunments are off cooldown.

It plays a little bit like a thief without stealth, you wait on the outside of a teamfight for a chance to burst an enemy down. The problem is that it takes way more skill to do it properly without stealth ^^. When it works it works great though but I dunno if it has something to do with people not expecting you to burst them down in 3 seconds.

From my experience, either

1. Camp in Air when facing against zerker thief/ranger to get a good uptime of weakness and shocking Aura (which gives you fury – meaning more damage for Lightning Whip \o/) or

2. Camp in Earth (on point) to stack those bleed onto your opponents and force them to cleanse it. Do not forget that Magnetic Grasp is an unblockable projectile immobilization. It’s really good against classes like guardian/engi/ranger that try to disengage.

Weakness is the enemy of any zerker classes. They will not be able to crit you and if you are a cele, the fight is entirely in your favor.

Chill is the enemy of any swapping weapons/kit/attunement classes. Put chill on an ele, they will be forced to cleanse it or it will disrupt their rotation.

To some, dungeons are for gold. To others, it is to put on their tryhard pants and enjoy it the difficult way.

For example, these 1 and 2 are the VoD of CM path 2 with two different groups, both with TeamSpeak. One group, I was completely unfamilar with and one with which I have been running almost daily. Same strategy, but onetook almost twice as long as the other. Can you spot my fun? It is to adapt to the tempo of each group and adjust when things go wrong.

And (lol) I don’t even bother uploading my pug run of the same path which took almost 20 minutes because pug could not follow thief for stealth skip and failed the gate part over and over. Does fail equate with fun? I think not. Not when we already know how to do things better.

How Mesmers Feel About Elementalists

in Elementalist

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

Staff is perfectly viable in PvP, so we have a total of three main builds.

But (I might have missed that?) they don’t feel staff Eles as a threat to Mesmers, because AoE damage does not pose a significant threat to their builds.

(Please correct me, when I am wrong, but the build variety outside Blasting Staff, Elemental Attunement and Evasive Arcana isn’t that big for staff builds these days, too. )

Readymade is a very very good staff ele. He can win 1v1 against d/p thief easily, much less for a mesmer. On point, he can hold it for days, unless getting trained by a pain train duo.

The enemy is the people who know hows to interrupt every single time you activate your signets (Tarcis, 5G), or even 100-0 you before you have a chance (Caed, AK). Against these people with high skill level than you, d/d cele is a safer bet because at least, you may have a chance to run away

At mid level, it’s a fun roaming build with Blinding Ash. I had a lot of fun telling enemy “hit me! hit me!” when my fire shield is on.

Second, any strange terrain will ruin it. Even a slight slope can make it unuseable, sometimes it strait just doesn’t want to land.

And, what do you mean ranged projectile finishers? If you just mean comet/dragons tooth, they’ll go on your target or if no target out infront of you a distance (which again can be manipulated by angling your camera). Remember though, there is a range on blast effects (iird like 300 or so), so you can’t be way back dropping blasts on a fire field on the boss and expect to get the buff.

In a place with a low ceiling (looking at you, CM!!!), back down about 300 range distance, look up at between 30 and 50 degree then cast your dragon tooth. Comet doesn’t seem to have the ceiling problem though.

If you see a fresh air ele? Blind them, put Weakness on them, CC them, Condi them, hurt them, and pressure them to back down because they don’t have a lot of sustain. Unless you face Phantaram, then GGWP.

Edit: How often do you see a fresh air ele with a lot of condition removal? hahahahahaha…

Do Irukandji still respawn before 2 tentactles are killed? Or can you kill them before Maw awakens?

Irukanji do respawn if you don’t kill the first two tentacles. After that, you have to clear all of them and they will not respawn.

There are something that makes the Irukanji particularly more deadly than usual mobs. Their range attack is a projectile orb (I believe it bounces on hit) that will one shot you. If any strays aren’t not LOS properly, be prepared to reflect that attack. Their stealth skill is that of the mesmer’s torch skill. They tend to re-position after coming out of stealth and the blast is a deadly aoe trap. Blinding them during their stealth is rng. More often than not, I see people panic and scatter, which baits these two attacks effectively. Or sometimes they too focus on the irukanji and fail to dodge the floppy swipe attacks of the tentacles.

tl;dr If you can watch the tell and use your damage mitigation, it is not hard. Otherwise, it can be a complete group wipe.

Yeah, it’s said in the ToS agreement. Let’s just hope that they resolve their stu-kitten quickly.
