Hairstyle clipping D:

in Sylvari

Posted by: Isende.2607

Isende.2607

it’s not just the clipping that gets me, with sylvari. it’s everything about their hair — let me see if i can explain why.

think of weeping willows, with their long, slender, graceful fronds. think of the mighty oak, with its gorgeous clusters of leaves all moving in the wind. think of a bay tree, the leaves somewhat tightly packed near each other … but still able to MOVE when the wind moves them.

sylvair hair looks like giant leaves that have been shellacked in place. there’s no real movement, no grace, with the hairstyles. sylvari hair just kinda sits on their heads.

i was SO excited, before launch — i wanted to play a sylvari SO much! the creation, the lore, everything about them was just so much to fall in love with! sadly? i can’t stand to play them, because 1) there are simply not enough hair styles and 2) the hair that exists has no movement, no grace to it.

i’ve seen what you’ve done with the other races’ hair — heck, i can even, in certain positions/lighting, see the 2d objects and the layering used to create the sense of fullness and movement. i don’t understand why this was unobtainable for the sylvari, but if i could have any one thing, it would be for you to go back to the drawing board with their hair. no, it’s not something i can get past — if i don’t like a character, everything about it, i won’t play it. and the lack of styles, and the lack of grace and movement in the hairstyles, at this time prohibits my ability to enjoy playing this unique race.

I’m not that happy with the townclothes system, so if we do get a choice of undergarments, I’d prefer that they replace the current default underwear that all of our characters have. That way you can wear all of it on top of each other.

shameless bump — i HATE the town clothing currently in place! the ONLY outfit i like, marginally, is the pirate outfit, and i’ll be kittened if i’m going to have ALL of my characters wearing the same bloody thing! so far, none of the gem shop additions have been anything anywhere near tempting for me to spend money on.

Weapon swapping - anyone else not like it?

i find this humorous, for a couple of reasons. one — the “pulling weapons out of the thin air” thing i can ONLY see from a purely visual perspective — when my warrior’s running around, either her hammer shows, or her sword/axe show. never the three. however, realistically speaking, it is no unreasonable to think someone could be running around carrying all three … and all three would have differing uses. two — if you learn to time your cds, which is something i’ve just kind of always done, then you don’t run into an issue. i can say that the weapon choices i make have skills on them i use all of — not just spamming 1, 1, 1 and so on, but all of them. i use them during a fight based on their cd AND the cd of my weapon swap.

but then, again, i’ve always played with a strong sense of my cds. that just seems … logical to me. and i don’t have any issues with the timing.

bottom line, though, i believe, is anet’s drive to have folk play together. if the waypoints are contested, that’s because folk aren’t working to clear them. one (hopefully useful) trick you may try is changing servers (i.e., guesting). i’ve found that tarnished coast does a great job of keeping their temples open and the ongoing battles clear.

You Know this post is about having a place in the hero panel to equip more than one weapon.

Why should Elementalists have to use more bag space to store their favorite weapons?

elementalists do NOT have to use more bag space to store their favorite weapons. the people who drive them and choose to play more than one set choose to store these additional sets. you’re talking your convenience in spite of the way anet designed the profession.

here’s something to think about, though: i run my thief with d/d and p/p sets, and also carry a shortbow on her for certain situations. i CHOOSE to carry that shortbow in her bags rather than beg for a third place to carry it. my warrior runs s/a and hammer, and i also carry a rifle on her — again, for certain situations. guess what? my CHOICE to carry that third weapon. my guardian? she runs gs and m/f … and carries a staff. do i need to spell out every single character/profession i carry extra weapons on, or do you get the idea?

there is design, and there is convenience. forego convenience, and accept that design works as intended.

Those were necessary nerfs, because of how broken they were in spvp/tpvp. They still have good survivability, its just not FARRR superior to everyone elses now. Ele isn’t as versatile as engineer since they can pull the kit out whenever but its either high dps or high support with powerful/useful aoes. You can’t get the best of both worlds…

I’m not going to argue whether or not they were necessary nerfs for PvP, but they were definitely not necessary for PvE. It’s really a stupid concept to have to be in close range if that’s what you initiate combat in or to have to stay at long range if that’s what you start with. That’s like saying you’ll give the warrior greatsword and axe/mace for every situation.

sorry, i must disagree with you, for two good reasons:

i have a guildie who playes d/d ele in EVERY encounter, and there are encounters he walks away from and brings the rest of US up from downed states. so he knows his profession and his build well enough to do that. i choose to play a staff on mine because i prefer playing a more supportive role in dungeons, but he does some pretty hawt damage AND maintains his life.

the second reason is that the ele design forces you to choose, per fight. period. that’s it. you have to know your profession, your build, the strengths and weaknesses of that build/profession, to be effective at it. you don’t like being “forced” to choose for short and close fights or ranged? don’t play an elementalist.

ele is by far one of the most versatile and complex profession/classes i’ve ever seen, and i stand by my statement above: you can play it, but it takes work to play it well.

i disagree with changes that are made in pve due to pvp needs. i disagree with them more than i can possibly iterate. but i also know that if you don’t take the time to learn what IS vs what you think SHOULD BE you are handicapping yourself and, if you play with friends, your team.

vashoom, i won’t call you a liar, and i ask you to not call me a liar.

i have soloed all three zones in orr on three different characters. now that i think about it, it is POSSIBLE that on one of them, MAYBE, the champ wasn’t there — but not on all three of them. my guildies and i were talking about this the other night, and several other of my guildies also popped up with “um, yeah, i’ve soloed all three zones in orr …” and so on and so on.

it’s harder, yes. pain in the kitten to be most honest. but doable. now — here’s where it gets tricksy.

the fact that i, and my guildies, and others, have done it doesn’t mean you “have” to do it that way. i know for a fact that, while they’re not as big, zergs still run together getting zone completion in orr. i also know that if you ask in /m, there’s always at least one person willing to lend a helping hand — at least, on jade quarry, this is true. i also know that in my guild, if we have players who need help, we’re there.

so. is the problem 1) you can’t solo it and can NOT find help pursuing any of these avenues? or 2) you can’t solo it and can’t find a build or gear that might help you solo it? or 3) you can’t solo it but are a solitary player and “shouldn’t have to” ask people for help?

i know there are numerous people out there who also think they shouldn’t “have to” ask for help, and that is counter to the devs design of the game. if you ask in map, you’ll get the same response, re: why some sps are guarded by champions: “because anet wants to build a game where we work together.” so there are some things out there designed, by intent, to promote playing together.

i don’t know if you ask them to change their design, which is what your original post does, is going to work. in the meantime, rather than sit and wait for something that may not happen, what are your other options?

you level by doing dungeons, however if your looking to level fast just mapping different zones (besides crafting) is by far the fastest method there is. My last guardian that i levelled that way hit 80 right at about 20 hours

this is a true statement; what it’s looking like, though, is he wants the “leveling” without the “work.” i suppose if there are four other people willing to do all the work so he doesn’t have to, then it’s their choice, eh?

it’s been said, more than a few times, that any build is OP if the person playing it is able to play it intuitively. that means that for you, your ele build works perfectly — for me, it wouldn’t. saying that is my way of saying that some of what you’re asking for removal of are things that are useful to me, and my intuitive playstle — while others you’re asking to replace them with or add are not.

additionally, i am only squishy when i get hit, on my ele — which doesn’t happen all that often, due to my build and playstyle. my ele can successfully take on and manage everything up to and including several champions — not all, mind you, but most — and while it’s a LONG fight, it’s one that i can walk away from.

my husband and i do the same thing on jq for the la puzzles, on sundays. i’ve had to be very “creative” in how i phrase my offers in /m, as i struggled with the throttle the first day i did it. basically, i found out that if you vary your word placement, wording, etc, you can avoid the throttle — heck, i’ve even had my /s throttled for saying “you’re welcome” too many times when people are thanking me.

i do think there needs to be a better system — in addition, the fact that we don’t know how long we’re throttled is really annoying. sometimes a couple of minutes, sometimes 10 minutes or longer, and never after a “set” amount of throttles — like, there doesn’t appear to be a deal of “throttle once – 1 minute, twice – 2 minutes,” and so on.

given the differences, as pointed out above, in the mh/oh weapons, it’s not always doable to have similar weapon skills on the same slots, but i really can’t think what it would hurt us to give us the ability to set those buttons up how we’d like. i mean, we can do it on 7-9, right? AND change the skills on 6 and 0?

i realize it’s going to come across as elitist, it’s not an elitist statement. it’s the truth — oh, and that also includes that pesky bloody skill point anet threw in that’s always guarded by a champion. it is also soloable, if you take the time to watch and pattern the timing, and kill judiciously/methodically as you get there.

this statement would lead me to believe you don’t really play your ele to its fullest potential.

it’s said that it’s easy to learn any of the gw2 professions, but difficult to play any of them “well.” for the elementalist, as well as the engineer, i’d certainly stake a bet that that’s the truth.

if you don’t respond to a given situation by being able to fluidly flip attunements as the situation requires, you simply aren’t playing your elementalist to its fullest potential.

ok, here’s the scoop: i am playing a fantasy game, right? i am playing a game with swords, spells, dragons, undead/risen, and so on and so on. mythical, right?

WHY am i stuck with “hoodie” and “cargo short” and “riding pant” and so on selections for my town clothes???

anet, people have been asking for something along the lines of your armor/costume slots from gw1 since betas. you refuse to acknowledge, much less listen, to these requests. then you bring in new employees to design, supposedly, armor for the game … and we end up with 20/21st century grunge wear, among other things.

you’re acting as though the majority of your playerbase is kids — we’re not. you’re acting as though we’d prefer to have these selections than things that would support the fantasy environment we’re playing within. i speculate that this isn’t true. you’re behaving as though we should be grateful for these tidbits you’re doling out, when you’re constantly refusing to acknowledge what we’re really asking for (read, costume ability/slots, and period- or story-appropriate town clothes, since we’re stuck only “personalizing” our characters in town clothes).

oh, and another thing? am i the only one who looked at the new shirts available and said, “oh, gee, what a <sarcasm> wonderful </sarcasm> way to reskin the norn town shirt.”?

it comes down to one thing: some groups play dungeons in order to do things together, as a group (such as my guild). some, however, only play them to “farm” them.

in the case of the first group, we don’t care WHAT you play when you go in, only that you play it well and be a team player. do we care if that “playing it well” takes a few runs for you to get figured out? nope. will we keep on, and keep on, rezzing you, and working with you to figure out what best suits your playstyle? you betcha! we’ve done runs with every conceivable mix of players out there — and we’ve beaten the dungeon.

in the second group, the only thing that matters is a fast clear so that they can run it again, and again, and again. these are the folk who’ve sat down with the spreadsheet and done their best to determine the “only optimal” build for a profession, and the “only optimal” group build, thus they’re often looking for this-type mez or that-type warrior and so on.

i’ve now played through every single profession. i’ve built my own builds for each of my characters that reflects MY playstyle, and i get through the dungeons without being downed more than a few times, after i’ve gotten things settled, worked out, and geared. some of my characters (such as my thief) i play for pure damage/survivability, but amazingly she has 0 toughness in her traits and 0 stealth in her skills. she kicks kitten i play other characters, such as my guardian, for heavy damage/surv combined with excellent support for my group — same with my engi. the synergy in my guild’s group runs is fantastic, and our ability to take on anything and overcome it is thrilling.

do we need a damage meter to achieve this? nope. for you farmers? keep on with your spreadsheets and your hopes of in-game support for your elitist tendencies — but players like myself, my guild, and so many others will keep on arguing against it, and keep on proving, over and over, that any profession can be played, and played well, to work within any grouping made.

the majority of your playerbase is NOT asian

this is causing issues for jumping and placing portals, for mesmers, as well. as a side note, when i did sharkmaw today, i got to watch my character fall twice, once from the side. that was pretty interesting … but not overly useful.

Yes, I know that there are a whole lot of people who do things the right way. Unfortunately, there are also guilds …

that, right there, is where i think the problem exists. you state “the right way” as though your way is the right way, the only way, the correct way.

that typically falls under the category “elitist thinking,” now doesn’t it? “the most dangerous person you’ll ever meet is the one who knows they know everything about everything.”

you need to give room for guilds to manage themselves, regardless of any judgement calls you think should/could/may be made. if the members join, wishing to play in a guild that manages itself thusly, then they have as much right to find a guild like this as my guild’s members have to find a guild run the way we run it.

having tools to best manage both ways of being is providing more tools, not enforcing a judgement call either way.

While other suggestions you made were sound, I dislike how these few sound. To me, it just sounds like you want to kick members based on who isn’t the most efficient member, who isn’t bringing a ton of influence to the guild or who took 3s worth more stuff from the bank than what they gave.
I disagree on that style of guild leadership. And to protect the experience of the average users, I do not think that style of guild leadership should be made available. To be honest, it would be worse than a damage meter for dungeons.

And yeah, that is probably not what you were going for, and I’m not saying you’d be some horrible leader, I’m not trying to insult you in any way. I can see you’re somewhat dedicated, spending a lot of time with your guild… but sadly, there are just a ton of people who would abuse the suggested (quoted) features in a way that would have a huge negative impact on the experience of other players around them. That is wrong and should not be allowed, endorsed nor made available.

fargone, my guild does not have requirements; therefore, it is unimportant to us who last logged in when, or how often they represent our guild over their other guilds. this is our preferred method of managing our guild. however, you need to hear this, please, and think about this:

this is not my way of managing things — that does not invalidate it as a way of managing things. you’re not in that guild, and you wouldn’t join that guild, based on their requirements. but the truth of the matter is, they have the right to manage their guild as they see fit. they have the right to structure their guild as they see fit. they’re right up on the edge of the member cap with a waiting list … that means that knowing who’s not been on in over six weeks may be vital, to them. if this is communicated as a requirement to their members upon recruitment, then absolutely no harm, no foul.

i agree with your view of how your guild should be managed; i wholly applaud OP for her incisive and very well-thought out list of requests. i wholly back her right to manager her guild as required, and to have the game support at least some of what she needs.

I started this game 2 days ago, after playing WoW for 6 years.

I love the game, I mean it’s so different, the combat is really really intense and it’s the best I’ve ever seen, with the real-time dodging and evasion manouvers, it’s absoloutely incredible, props to this game.

BUT – The only thing I seem to dislike is the fact that you make a level 1 character, you can do everything in the entire game that people that are level 80 have worked their kitten off for, I think they should have more extensive PvP that is level restricted, for example, at level 80 it is level 80’s in that PvP only, and you don’t all get given the same gear, make PvP gear something to work hard for at level 80,

I like WoW’s idea of 10-19, 20-29 and so on of PvP better, I don’t like the idea of joining the game and doing everything endgame without completing any content..

i apologize, but i must disagree with you on the statement that you can “do everything endgame without completing any content.” while, yes, you can wvw and spvp, you cannot do 1) dungeons 2) any area of any map that is more than three-four levels above your level and thus 3) any hearts or 4) any dynamic events in those areas, much less 5) any personal story quests you haven’t progressed to or 6) any of the achievements involving exploration, puzzle jumping, or so on in areas that are more than three-four levels above your level …

i could go on, but i think you get what i’m saying. there is FAR more content available than wvw, spvp, or the fractals.

you know, i love it. since betas, people have been screaming “there’s no endgame!!!” these are, typically, the players who only level one character, as quickly as they can, so they can get to the “real” game. these players didn’t do the research on the game. they didn’t read or listen to the interviews with the anet devs, wherein they stated “we want the entire game to be endgame.” they don’t understand the initiative to keep the entire world someplace explore-worthy. and further? when they hear people like me point these things out, they respond with “well, i don’t care. this game needs endgame.”
truth is there are A LOT of players, like me, like my husband, like my guild, like many of the friends i’ve made ingame — who love this game, and play this game, for love of the game. we love what anet has created. we love the open world that’s changing and evolving around us. we love the plethora of professions available, and the myriad ways of playing each profession.
YOU say the game needs endgame. i say? you need a different game. leave mine alone.

I won't ever play this game again...

They need proper endgame, and not this add this with laurels, add this for commendations and 500000 other temporary time gated tokens and stuff.
Give reason to keep getting all the stuff, and not add 2 more temporary dungeons again.

Create stuff that lasts even if it will be difficult. Guild missions are difficult, but barely worth the trouble. Create dungeons for legendary pieces but make them hard so people having something to actually work for and when they make it they get the feeling they earned a reward thats actually worth something.

Capes are a nice addition but once you have it it doesnt fight the boredom (doesnt mean arenanet shouldnt add it though). Mounts have the same thing allthough I dont think they add anything to the game and shouldnt be added.

Overhaul Proposal - Steal

interesting. when i first began playing my thief, i didn’t use steal at all — i saw it as useless and a waste of time. then, i sat down with guildhead.com and built myself a build that suits my playstyle, and in reading over the traits, i found that i could trait for the ability to buff myself and allies on stealing … i could rebuild initiative on stealing … both most useful.

THEN i started training myself to use it as a part of my cycle, and found it to be the perfect accompaniment to my thief’s abilities.

if there were any one thing i’d like changed, it’s this:

when my thief steals from a melee target “based” on, say, an elementalist. an ele has no stealth ability. however, she ends up stealthed. i would love to see her steal abilities match those associated with her target, rather than be a random ability coming from an overall list of possible abilities.

Incorporating GW1 into GW2

um, yeah, no. there were things that anet changed from gw1 to gw2 that i thoroughly approve of, and this is one of them. i think it’s commendable that they put us in a position of learning how to play what we’re given, and succeed or lose on our merit in being able to play it that way. realize it or not, that is a challenge, and i for one REALLY enjoy the ability to rise to, and overcome, challenges.

More Skimpy Armor Please? [Merged]

ahem ok. first of all, if you’d like, i can give you my husband’s info so he can confirm that i am, in deed, completely 100% female. second? i agree, i don’t think i would have stated this request as a demand. but that’s just me. last?

i have, currently, 13 characters that i bounce between. all female. all have their own personalities, likes, dislikes, etc etc etc. some of them like a more formal look, some of them like a more playful look, some of them like a more barbaric look, and some of them just like showing off their pure smexiness. yes, i’m an rper at heart.

the point i’d like to make, quite simply, is that i was overall thoroughly delighted at the availability of SENSIBLE armor selections for those of my females who prefer a more sensible wardrobe. but i’m pretty disappointed, for my characters who like things a little more risque, at the options available. my husband was, if not the first, then one of the very first, to combine the vigil leather legs with the duelist top on his ranger, because he wanted her to be sexy as well as powerful. in order to GET that look you MUST mix and match armor pieces, which means sometimes your dyes don’t quite match up. and so on and so on.

so, tl/dr — love the availability to have fully clothed/armored characters, would be thoroughly delighted with some more options for a little more playful or sexy sets.

here’s the way the pet names work:

when you have pets up, you have two active — primary and secondary. these two pets have names saved to those SLOTS, not to the pets themselves. therefore, if you have, say, a pink moa and a polar bear up, and you come across a wolf and choose to charm it, accepting it to replace one of your currently active pets, that wolf will take the name of the pet it replaces.

again, their names for pets are saved in one of the two slots, not to the pets themselves. would it be wonderful for them to change that? you betcha. do i think it’s beyond their ability to change it? c’mon. wow could do it. so yes, anet can also do it.

will they? that’s a whole ’nother issue.

Class-starting masks for HotM

here’s a quick solution — until/unless they “fix” it

roll a — oh, say a necromancer. get through the starting area. go to a white armor vendor, buy a mask (may have to purchase on another character if mask isn’t available for purchase). using transmute stones, transmute the mask onto a piece of white gear. you may be able to use the gold stone, but sometimes, for some odd reason, you have to use the silver (lvl 80) one.

voila! the mask/hood is now account bound, and able to be ’muted as you level up. delete the character, and continue on.

i find it somewhat amusing that people are citing the lack of meaning, or story-base, with the hearts. i talk to the heart people, i listen to their conversation with each other, and i know EXACTLY what’s going on in their little corner of the world — as well, sometimes, as their neighbor’s, or their friend in another zone …

the fact that you don’t do this doesn’t mean the story isn’t there.
