so, commander pins now stay up, on the player’s screen who has them, without the ability to toggle them unless you completely turn them off.

did no one think they MIGHT be a bit disruptive to play, this way? can you reset them back the way they were?

let me lead in with this interview:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-14-you-thought-that-was-it-for-guild-wars-2

this interview seems to indicate some great things are coming, not least of which are a slowed-down schedule for content releases. world-changing events. and so on and so on.

i’ve hit a point where, for me, i’m burned out. i’m not burned out in the lore, or the story. i’m not burned out on the graphics, or the gameplay/combat, or the idea behind gw2. nor am i burned out on exploration of professions; to date, i have 14 characters, so i’ve rolled two of lots — two warriors, two engineers, two thieves … you get the picture.

what i am burned out on is the meta-achievements, and the having to chase things, every two weeks. i get that that schedule’s slowed down. i also get that i don’t “have” to chase the achievements … but you may not get that i’m a completionist, and stricken with a little bit of ocd. so for me, the constant updates to the content, and the meta achievements, combined with the gear drops for increasing amounts of achievement points, have really done it for me.

this game, which i loved, loved, loved, has become a different type of grind for me. and this voice in my head says to me, “if you’re going to grind, why not go back to grinding gear, and the healing and tanking you loved so well?”

i can’t ignore that voice these days. i’ve had the joy and privilege of playing in the eso beta, and i’ve found some things interesting. there are mechanics i don’t like, i don’t like the graphics in that world as well as gw2, i don’t like the chargen as well … but i find myself missing playing in it, because i wish to continue the story, and i have MISSED healing.

i think, what it comes down to for a goodly portion of us is, if you’re going to offer these completionists, like me, the grind, then why would i not go grind where i can heal? and i can tank?

what’s the catch?

i’m eagerly anticipating seeing the outcome of the things you guys list in the above-mentioned interview, i really am. i want to get back to playing my characters, and not feeling that everything’s a grind, grind grind. i am, currently, jaded, but not so far i don’t hold out hope.

it is my sincere wish that hope isn’t misplaced.

PvE Version of Commander’s Tags Ok, I get it — you decided to train us all to be sheep, and blithely follow whoever is pinned up. However, I think you’re neglecting the fact that often, the skills required for PvP/WvW are different from the skills required for PvE. I’m very fortunate because my server, Jade Quarry, has commanders who are 1. Very willing to jump in to PvE events and 2. Actually skilled at PvE. I’ve heard horror stories, though, of other servers where commanders pin up for PvE events, then don’t actually know how, or even care, to complete them correctly. Further, you’ve absolutely created a situation where, in PvE, people will not do things, or do them as intended, unless there’s a commander pinned up. Silly, silly, silly. I’m thinking of the Nightmare Tower, right now, but we saw this also in the games in Divinity’s Reach. I think it would be beneficial to have a PvE version of the commander’s pin — maybe make it green, instead of blue? Not terribly difficult and, oh, guess what? You still get folk spending their money!

Crafting This is a biggie. Crafting is a very good way to level a character, if you really don’t feel like doing the story, dealing with Trahearne’s whiny sniveling yet again, and slogging through hearts and dynamic events, etc. But there’s absolutely no benefit, after you’ve reached 400/500, to your crafting. You’ve made all the ascended recipes account bound, so we can’t use the fruit of our labors to make money off of them. Further, crafted items purchased on the Trading Post are actually cheaper to buy than to make, if you add up the cost in materials. I could, literally, sell the materials for what I’d make, buy what I’d make from the Trading Post, and have money left over. Why does this seem like a good idea to you? By making mats so difficult to acquire (I’m speaking of things like bones, totems, etc), and making them so cost-prohibitive to acquired (farming farming farming BORING!), you’ve created a situation where we can not make money from our crafting. Why, then, outside of the leveling benefits, should I waste my time, energy, and efforts crafting?

Dye Creation This is a pet peeve for me. Huge pet peeve. I build up the materials to make a rare unidentified red dye. Then, I open this unidentified red dye, and I get a common dye in return. This is absolutely beyond belief. If I spend the materials to make a rare dye, I should, at the very least, get a rare dye when I or anyone else opens it. Yet another way you’re making our crafting useless, gang. Please note this.

Trading Post There are still so many bugs in this, it’s nuts. For instance, if I wish to search for foods, I have to actually know the food’s name, or I have to search consumables, for a level range, then weed through all the potions, etc, that are also listed for that level. Or, I wish to buy a piece of armor. Leather/Medium for my Thief. Foot piece. I actually have to do a search for all armor foot pieces then weed through the results that are returned for Heavy/Medium/Light — I have no way to select Medium armor. Further, when I sell items, I have to actually click to buy them so I can preview the prices and amounts at that price, before I decide what I’m selling them for. You guys really need to work in a way to preview an item’s history and its current sales state for when we choose to sell them, so we can make an informed decision and not just blithely post our items for the “highest buyer” or “lowest seller” or whatever. Yes, there’s a way to work around it, but dear gods, the system in place for the TP right now is, at best, clunky. And I know your developers will be quite familiar with that term.

That’s all I can think of, at this moment, to add to Grendel’s list. Many of these types of lists have been made up in the past; many items from them you guys decided, “Eh, that’s a good idea,” but many more of them got lost by the wayside. Really, I appreciate what you’re trying to do with the 10 December patch. But there’s so much more in place that has been problematic since launch that you guys really need to wake up, notice, and deal with.

Actually, there are considerable changes that could and likely should be made. I love what they’ve done, with soliciting player input re: the changes on 10 December, but I hate that they’re going forward with so many changes, and still overlooking or ignoring some pretty significant changes. Among them are:

Targeting – currently, there are a couple of different methods of targeting. One is just point and shoot, and hit whatever the system decides is in your range. Another is to tab target to select your preferred target. Last, you can set your tab target to only target the mobs closest to you. I, among many people, rely on tab targeting to select the mobs I wish to focus my attentions on. This becomes a problem because tab targeting is likely to select the mob closest to me, or the one way across the field from me that’s completely out of my range. I recently dropped in to Rift, to see how things are there, and I was like, “Oh, yeah! This is what targeting should be!” It boggles the mind that this hasn’t been addressed and after a full year is still as much a problem as it was to begin with. Yes, they gave us the “Select closest target,” but that becomes a problem when you try to move your target. For instance, on my thief, I play her with a strong mobility/strong condi build, so I run her d/d and love my deathblossom to handle crowds of mobs. In a crowd of eight, say, I select my target, db over him, then move my target to another mob a bit further away so I can strike up to three different targets, spreading the bleeds around the entire group. If I have closest target selected? I can’t move my target with tab. If I don’t have it selected? I may, on my next tab, hit a mob that’s across the field and completely out of my range. This is nuts.

Town Clothes You’re so right, Grendel — what really is the purpose of town clothes? Further, the way specialty costumes are set up, you must spend money to keep up with the ‘mute stones if you buy the costume for a low-level character, or, as I did, do a LOT of map completion to build up the 1-79 stones. You guys don’t think we spend enough money, buying the costumes? C’mon, I know my husband and I have averaged it and, on a normal month, between us we spend about $40-$50 on gem store items. I doubt we’re outside the norm, in fact, we’re probably on the low end of norm for that. I think you’d do your players a great service by bringing back costume slots.

Guild Interface and Management Couple of issues here. First of all, there’s a lot that would improve the guild interface, not least of which is the “last played” ability. But what about calenders, so we can schedule our events? What about a specific officer chat? Oh, and notifications of guildies logging in? Yes, I know — that notification exists in System Messages. However, in order to see what’s being said without it scrolling off my chat window instantly because of bloody system spam, I have System Messages turned off. Really, guys, packing in guild notifications when guildies log in or out with System Messages was very sloppy and poor design. It would improve standard of living greatly if you put that where it belongs — in Guild Notifications. Also, there’s the whole limit to party size being five. If your guild decides to embark on, say, Orr exploration, you have to do one of two things — have the leader get a WvW Commander’s tag so everyone knows whom to follow or make multiple parties of five. There really should exist some way to be able to pack in 11, 15, or 25 players or more for a guild outing.

Tommy, don’t be so … combative? I believe? Please. No, actually, I didn’t think that. given that statement, perhaps it’ll only be a limited time thing? All I can say is that for an only-PvE player, I hate it. I believe it’s a bad implementation, and if it continues and spreads to all mobs, I’m going to be seriously put-off my GW2. And that will sadden me. I dislike, greatly, things the slow me down, and this is a useless slowing … excepting, of course, the valid point you actually DID make, combative or not.

Seriously, if I wanted to have to “Finish Them” with foes, I’d be in PvP or WvW. I do not like the idea of being FORCED to finish foes in PvE, with multiple mobs still trying to kill my happy little buns, in PvE! Yep, may get flamed for this, but hey. I’m a PvE bunny. I don’t ask that my PvE preferences be carted over to PvE/WvW, I do ask that those preferences not become a requirement in PvE. So far, I’m really happy with everything else in this story, but that part of it’s really, REALLY beginning to peeve me.

LFG Sin CD without reason

Isende.2607

So I’m happily using the LFG tool to find stuff to do, since I haven’t really pugged much since I started this game … way back, like, pre-launch days. Happily helped a group out in Frac (even though one of our party members bolted before the last one, and we four-manned it) — all the way to completion. Then, saw a party looking for help on AC story, so hopped in there. Good run, we finished it … and as I was going through the LFG groups again, I noticed that my ability to join was greyed out, and there was this little message telling me I’d joined too many parties recently..

MAJOR “WTF” moment there, guys. Is this a bug? Is it known? If you finish two runs, you should not be penalized. Period. At all. Ever.

If the LFG tool doesn’t allow you to pug to your heart’s content — assuming all runs are completed by you — then it’s pretty much useless, imo.

Make soul bound account bound

it’s very easy to account-bind sb items. make sure you have plenty of transmute stones! if you need lvl 80 gear, use the silver ones; below 80, use the gold ones.

on character item is soulbound to, purchase white pieces of armor (i go with the lowest level possible, so i can use them asap on my new alts) to match the pieces you want to account bind.

open up ’mute boxes

in one side, put the item you wish to make account bound, in the other, put the corresponding piece of white armor

’mute

done

the ONLY exception that i’ve found to this, which i do NOT understand, is the level 80 karma gear from the temples. with those, since they introduced the splitters you must use the ‘mute splitters. why this makes sense is beyond me, considering ALL karma gear that is sub-80 can be ’muted with the stones, but hey, i don’t work there, right?

Isende.2607

the power to other stats issue is just a small part of the whole problem. yes, they said, “no trinity!” and so, during ALL events, your contribution is based on the damage YOU do — NOT on the support you provide. NOT on the cc which contributes to managing the FEW bosses that can be affected by cc. in short, every single event requires you, the player, to run in a damage build if you are going to get the top score (gold) for contribution. THEN they go and take builds that can be superb at support, or at helping to manage agro, and they say “eh, yeah, no need for effectiveness here.”

anet, we’re BEGGING you. IF you took out the “holy trinity” BUT you left in builds that can, on paper before you remove everything that works right, work well so players can play THEIR way (i.e., i used to heal and tank. i LOVE building support builds. i get no credit, in events, for the support i provide, and MUST go to a damage build) — IF you did these things, then PLEASE reconsider this stance, and find ways to CREDIT people for being willing to do the low-damage builds that provide support to their group.

you want us to play with others. you want us to help and support each other. you designed this game so we get credit for doing it, out in the wilds. why doesn’t that support and design extend to dynamic events, and to dungeons? you really REALLY think that making everyone go into a full-damage build is encouraging the fullest use of the trait trees YOU designed?

Either you want to pick other, safer hairstyle, or bear with clipping. There’s no way to have both with longer hair, unless you want it to have a one stiff shape of a lampshade, which will by default avoid clipping with the widest armor/shoulderpads, and result with floating weirdly over the toon’s body while lighter armor is equipped.

speaking of this — have you guys seen the deanerys (sp?) hairstyle for the female norns? at least as far as the preview is concerned, there is absolutely no movement in this hairstyle. can someone tell me if that’s fact after it’s applied? it just kinda SITS there.

and i get your point, but it still doesn’t invalidate my point. i, at least, won’t be purchasing hair kits to replace characters’ hair, simply because i won’t deal with the clipping. i know i’m not the only one, lol.

1. arenanet offers me three hairstyles to add to the … um, well, sometimes lackluster selections currently available. but …
2. i MUST purchase said hairstyles through the gem store and
3. aforementioned new hairstyles clip, and clip BADLY

my point, iterated above, is IF you want me, and folk who are as picky as i am (and there are a great many of us who WON’T use hairstyles because of the clipping, which limits our choices) to spend money for this in the gem store? give us stuff that doesn’t clip this badly.

you can limit yourself, if you choose. or you can realize that with the traits/etc set up as they are, there are several, SEVERAL different ways to build the same profession, and play and experiment with them

Elementalist and non weapon swapping

in Suggestions

Posted by: Isende.2607

Isende.2607

No to this idea and to Seath’s idea, which I will post in that thread as to not go off topic here.

This idea gives Elementalists too many skills compared to other classes and I play Elementalist. And as I play solo, I do sometimes wish I could switch out to staff if I need to get farther from a foe to increase my survivability if it’s a harder hitting, but close range enemy. Not to mention when I go up against the dragons it’s not safe to be within scepter/dagger range most times so I try to remember to swap out to staff but I do forget sometimes (and usually that forgetting happens against Jormag).

I don’t think you understand what he is saying…try re-reading what he wrote SLOWLY this time. He’s saying per weapon gets 2 attunements, for example: dagger/dagger would get fire/earth while staff would get air/water. Anyways I think this could work, i don’t see why it couldn’t be implemented into the game…elementalist wouldn’t have access to any more weapon skills than it already has…so I vote yes.

considering i love ALL of the attunement abilities available on ALL the weapons currently usable by the elementalist, i would absolutely despise having my attunements limited to what i currently had equipped, just so i could pick up a “handy” weapon swap. again — elementalist takes a lot of patience, understanding, skill, and situational awareness to play well. if you do not like the way it’s currently designed then i strongly second the motion — apparently elementalist is not the profession for you. in my ever-so-humble opinion, the design of the elementalist makes it one of the most challenging and, therefore, fun professions to play.

ever.

How to make GW2 a 10/10 service game

i’m just sitting here shaking my head in disbelief. first of all, i and my guild and just about everyone else i’ve spoken to rejoiced when the dailies were refashioned so that they COULD be pursued by anyone, at any level. if people wanna roflstomp the lowbie areas, that’s their business, not yours, and you shouldn’t have a say in whether they’re correct or incorrect for doing it. essentially you’re stating that they’re not playing the game right, and that’s really not your business.

new players, or old players rolling alts, SHOULD coexist in the same servers, and those should be the servers they rolled on. it’s imperative that there be experienced players available to answer questions, etc — this IS a “massively MULTIPLAYER” game, i.e., a social game, and if we want this game to continue successfully, we need to ensure that new players receive help and assistance and are not ostracized because they’re new.

the rest of the suggestions you made i find nearly as laughable, just not as offensive, as i found these two.

i think anet has some hiccups to get over — like, 100% map exploration requiring mists exploration, and like some issues with the lfg tool, and so on and so on. some things i think they’re on the right track for, some i think they’re kinda heading off on the wrong track. but the one thing i’m pretty sure they’re conscientiously pursuing is ensuring the game is fun for everyone. that means no segregation. that means no setting aside this person in favor of that person.

oh, and last but not least, as was pointed out, you used the collective “we” and that’s way outta line. you also stated that “Daily is content aimed at people that are done leveling. Personally, I don’t see a problem if the content is aimed at level 80 characters, specially since it is very fast to level here.” that relies on an assumption that everyone is happiest with a level 80 character. while i do know a great many people who only level one character, then expect to find happiness and joy in running that one character around to do everything, i also know a predominance of people who are happiest leveling MULTIPLE characters. having a system that caters only to level 80s would mean i would miss out on the xp benefits, etc, that i can currently gain when i’m leveling one of my herd of sub-80 alts.

about the ONLY thing i found worthy of note in your suggestions was making living world content and updates less frequent. with pursuing the achievements and activities inherent in the two-week release of living content, it’s nearly impossible to focus on and utilize one of my herd of sub-80 alts, and everyone becomes consumed by the new content. so at least two weeks out of every month, nothing else in the game is being done.

Elementalist and non weapon swapping

ya know, both the elementalist and the engineer were a “different” kind of profession, established to maximize their talents without having to rely on weapon swapping. what my necromancer does by changing weapon sets — i.e., going to a set with no cds since i’ve already used all the cds on my first set — the elementalist and the engineer both accomplish by changing attunements or kits.

these professions both require MORE attention to detail, and MORE skill to play, than your average profession, because of these mechanics.

so, having said that, if i reread what you’re asking for — you’re asking for the elementalist to be dumbed down, to be made easier to play, because you don’t like the fact that to succeed with the ele requires more attention to detail and precise application of knowledge. that about sum it up?

i’m quite certain there is something about this already in here; however, since the FORUM’S SEARCH ENGINE IS CURRENTLY NOT WORKING it’s a bit difficult to find without scrolling through, and frankly? not interested in that.

lfg works great, so far, a couple of suggestions i might recommend include:

when someone ragequits on the first wipe, and you pull in another party member, some dungeons (such as arah) are instanced so that the new party member comes in, but can not connect with the group. this should be changed so that new party member always arrives where the group is. a for-instance — arah, taking down the three towers. our new 5th member today had to wait at the beginning of the dungeon until we completed that, then, via the cutscene, was brought to where we were; this means for the three towers fight, we were one short. doable, but not good for that new member, who gets no xp, no loot, etc.

when you lfg, you should be able to receive the “enter dungeon” prompt from where you are, whether you’re on that dungeon’s map or not. this is a convenience that’s available, and been available, in other games for a while. yes, it IS a convenience, but it’d be a nice addition

last, but not least, and this is applicable to ALL dungeons — PLEASE give us the option to esc out of any and all cutscenes. some of these i’ve seen a bajillion times because i run these with guildies. i would, yes, prefer to stand there and wait on them, than to have to sit through these again. first time through per character? sure. force us to watch them. but after that??? please!

for the last couple of weeks — not since the most recent patch, but i believe since the one previous to it — the guild roster has been incorrectly showing people who are logged on or off. attached is a screenshot, showing our roster. please note the player account name “Moonstruck.3612.” this is my husband, who logged off 20 minutes before i took the screenshot, yet he still shows as online.

this is causing confusion when we’re trying to get parties together, etc, as people are incorrectly showing as online, when they’re in fact offline.

The Asura Tier 2 Cultural Weapons are, currently, “Verdant” weapons. Verdant is traditionally a Sylvari skin. These weapons both carry the name, Verdant, and also have the plant-weapon skins.

Out of curiosity, did a table get mixed up? Or is this an indication that the Asura don’t deserve their own cultural weapons, at Tier 2?

Sshot attached.

Tracking for funds spent

tonight, i had something happen that’s happened to me before, and i’ve shrugged it off. however, i’m really tired of shrugging this off, and i thought, “you know, if i think this would be a good idea, i’m SURE at least one more person would as well!”

problem: started evening with 55g in bank. within an hour, bank shows 40g. what was spent? i spent money on 1) repairs 2) waypoint from lion’s arch to cursed shore, and a few waypoints around there, and 3) trading post listings. somehow, i’m not seeing in all that where i spent 15g.

proposed solution: similar to the log you have to track guild bank funds, PLEASE give us a log to track monies we spend, personally. if nothing else, this would be useful to show someone like me, “oh, why yes, you actually did spend 15g in listing fees on the trading post.” again, considering i didn’t list stuff that would earn me 15g, i’m not sure where that would add up, but i’m sure it would stop my cursing, “argh! how is my bank losing 15g in an hour!” and shaking my fist and cursing the anet records-keeping for being fallible.

Unintended Monthly Achievement Rollback?

just chiming in, i’m more upset than i can say. i go in for surgery tomorrow, and was excited that, today, i’d complete my monthlies and not have to worry about it. now? frackin’ a if i don’t have to worry about it! what’s more? i wish i had done puzzles, and not settled for completionist … that way i could get TWENTY laurels this month, what with the reset! for the record? i think releasing new content, with new achievement objectives every two week has made this game grindy, and that grindiness is causing me to feel a lot less like “oh, hey, they’re still working on it” and a lot more like, “ugh, dear gods, what NOW?”

Watchknight Tonic Is Getting Fixed

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Isende.2607

Isende.2607

@Colly, i wouldnt mind that, i guess the only problem would be ability to hide armor, and i guess players would complain saying the other player had a advantage over him (aka the person lost and is QQing)

Ahh, class identity. It takes me back to my childhood, playing Ragnarök… People would ask for some form of customization, other people would say that then it would be too hard to tell one class from another. Good old times (haha nope).

People will always complain. Still, I want more permanent tonics that can be used in battles, and ones that REALLY are permanent and that can be used in WvW. I would love a Kodan combat tonic, I would make a new character with a typical Kodan name and I would be a Kodan forever.

People that are bad at PvP will never understand the need to identify another class, the reason is because they will never understand PvP. Based on what you guys say they should just go ahead and remove all visual tells from PvP.

I don’t think any explanation would work. You either get it, or you don’t. I don’t think anyone expects much from the PvE crowd anyway.

in rift, we had costume slots that let us appear any way we wanted to, including in pvp. then, came the crying about “i can’t tell what class it is!” trion removed the ability to costume in pvp.

THEN came the outcry from pvpers — NOTICE, please, from the pvp crowd, NOT the pve crowd — that if people couldn’t recognize what a class was by the weapons used and the skills used, they didn’t need to be in pvp.

outcry was so huge that we were given back our ability to costume ourselves, anywhere.

what’s REALLY annoying the crap out of me is the bloody RNG nature of which maps pop. for instance, if you check http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scarlet%27s_Minions_Invade!/history#29_August_2013 you can see that on some days, zones popped back to back, while others only popped once during an entire day. currently, i just need sparkfly fen; however, it never seems to come up during hours i’m awake. i’d love to camp here and afk through it, though that chews at my craw, since it’s more natural to me to EARN what i’m doing … but if sparkfly is only popping once, and that’s during sleep time (yeah, need sleep to work!), then i’m just sol.

this is REALLY annoying and frustrating! days off, i’ve spent every waking hour checking, and no luck.

Load Times Increased for all Travel

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Isende.2607

Just wanted to call out; noticed AFTER the patch that load time, when you zone from area to area, are SIGNIFICANTLY longer than they used to be. Falls back to the age-old, “what changed?” Since I went, on this computer, to playing pre-patch and after patch, nothing on the computer changed — what did change is that splash screens suddenly went from 2-5 seconds on my computer to 10-15 seconds, or even over 30 seconds, as just now when I’m loading in to Hoelbrak, from Lion’s Arch.

Edited to update times … Load times are crazy atm!

I understand this was a HUGE patch, with a lot of content. But if we’re early in the cycle of the Living Story two-week-update cycle, and we’re already getting increased load times when we zone, I have to wonder what the future’s gonna look like?

I would agree with you if, and only if, the Jumping Puzzle had a keep that a server could hold. Because there is no keep, there is little incentive for your server to come defend it.

When you say out to your server that an opposing server is taking so-and-so keep/tower, they can come to help. They come, because it is the goal of WvW. However, there is no benefit for the server if everyone came help out in a JP. Therefore, it doesn’t fit in well with WvW. (Same thing goes for Skill Points in WvW maps. Luckily, people do not camp skill points to gank people trying to finish map completion)

this made me think. first of all, to me, “living story” is, by and far, more a pve element than a pvp element. but that’s just me. however. if they want to get people to experience wvw, then putting something in a keep, where those people actually got to experience true wvw would be a lot more sensible than putting it in a situation like the obsidian sanctum, where griefing is so easily done. i wouldn’t necessarily LIKE that it was in what i considered a pvp area, but i do occasionally wvw, and quite like it, because it feels a lot more strategic and skill-based. so i’d do it, and not bat an eyelakitten it.

if their goal is to get people to experience wvw, then let’s maybe consider changing the venue. put it next to one of the hard-to-reach vistas in a keep, perhaps? make it a real challenge, that showcases wvw rather than what currently exists.

just another think.

lol — kal, you obviously don’t suffer from the ocd that drives achievement gathering. good for you!

yes, we know, it doesn’t contribute to the overall. but it’s THERE. it EXISTS. therefore, our little ocd-driven brains insist, it must be gotten!

here’s another think to think about — and you and i obviously do have differing views on griefing. to me, anyone who does what these idiots do just because they “can” are griefers, they’re not relying on skill to take an opponent, they’re relying on dummies like me with this flawed ocd thing for achievements to come give them a feeling of superiority. for what it’s worth, i enjoy pvp when it’s skill vs skill, not the situation that exists in the sanctums. anyway.

we have, in our guild, two players who are 60+. one of these players is about the sweetest, kindest, most patient people i’ve ever had the fortune to encounter. anywhere. he also is afflicted with this ocd flaw … AND he sucks at jumping puzzles. he’s said, flat out, “my reflexes just aren’t what they used to be.”

yep. he, i, we can walk away. but until you’re afflicted with this ocd thing? don’t think you can understand it.

my point stands. this situation encourages those who don’t rely on skill to fulfill their “i’m-better-than-you” sense of superiority. the majority of pvpers i know don’t waste their time camping this — they’ve got far more important stuff to do, against far more viable opponents, then camp these points and wait for we little flawed pve bunnies to come try and get these achievements.

Why it the use of overwhelming position, tactics, and personel griefing? Especially in WvW, which the JP is. Does that mean every time a zerg takes a keep, or more importantly defends one successfully they’re griefing? I mean all the enemy players want is the reward of owning that keep, why is someone getting in their way?

This is not just PvP, it’s WvW. This is how the game is played. They position themselves to stop you. If you don’t want to be stopped you need to have the support necessary to do something about it. If you can’t, too bad.

If they go and stick an achievement location inside an sPvP made then you can complain about the PvP aspects. This isn’t sPvP, it’s open world combat.

first of all, mtpelion, your view does not coincide with my view; you’re, in my mind, oversimplifying something, so i’m just going to let your statement rest.

kal, i think you ask honestly, so i’ll give you the most honest answer i can give — understand, it’s MY answer, and i don’t think it should suffice for anyone else, unless they state their agreement with it.

back in wowland, if a level 60 geared player went to a starter zone and repeatedly killed a level 10ish player (yeah, this is back in vanilla days, lol!), i considered that griefing. it was a simple statement of “i can because i’m better than you are.” if you’ll go back through this barrage of comments back and forth, you’ll find another player who essentially stated the same thing. “i can. i’m better than you. it’s fun.”

when you put a “living story” achievement in a wvw zone, and that living story achievement paves the way to a meta achievement (with or without title, etc), you’re going to have people like me who must have it, because our silly little ocd brains won’t conceive of our NOT having it. you, and others, state that all we have to do is go into the wvw portion of the map, or out of the jp map, and ask for help.

i’m on jade quarry. LOVE that server. love the people there; we have, in my opinion, some of the best, most knowledgeable, and helpful people around. i’ve been here since the betas, and i wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else. i am also aware that we’ve recently sunk down to T2 in wvw … we were T1 for a LONG time. this means that we have a lot of good, dedicated players who participate in wvw. here’s how i interpret that — these players are out capturing keeps, taking objectives, and increasing our server’s benefits — my benefits. what i want affects only me. i will not, under any circumstances, ask for them to come save my cute little hiney because some jerks see an opportunity to flex their “better-than-you” muscles and make it difficult for me to capture an objective. when i was in wow, playing on one of my lower level characters, i had a choice in the open world — keep dying until the idiot got more tired of killing me than i was of dying, or go get one of my own higher level characters and take them on in 1v1, which is of course what they wanted in the first place. most often? i just stayed there, dead, on the ground, until they left.

again, if it were a situation where skill counted, not a situation where a few can restrict the movements of a couple? i wouldn’t complain. if it were a situation where it wasn’t so obvious these are doing it just because they “can,” i don’t think i’d have an issue. but the situation, as it exists, in my mind, promotes griefing. it promotes the ability of those few idiot pvpers who have to slaughter pve bunnies in order to feel superior, gives them an easy outlet for it, and that’s something i’d really love the designers to reconsider. in my opinion, it is outside the scope of what arenanet has promoted, thus far, in this game.

just my opinion ;-)
