Those jumps were obnoxiously easy to make and the port spots were even easier.
The problem was that one side’s JP could be completed faster with much less risk of failing.
It was changed to balance the sides.
It was changed to make the map very much easier for Rangers to dominate. Along the way it also removed any real obstacle to zerging. This was a major boost to DH and War.
Oh, and btw.. it crippled Mesmer and Thief on the map.
That’s more-or-less the point I was trying to make. I’m calling it a “terrain nerf” to Mesmer and Thief.
Given that Mesmer and thieves had a absurd advantage on old Kyhlo, I’d say the change was justified.
Mesmers and Thieves had a slender mobilty advantage to offset there inability to hold points in the face of crushing aoe and dps.
Now that has been removed. Hail Queen Ranger.
I don’t think mes is weak however the new map makes roamers obsolete. The map is already to small which allows “slow” classes to have short walks between points. Now they removed tiny advantage roamers had and gave faceroll classes (hello dhs, wars, druids) possibility to snipe ppl from miles away from safety.
Don’t fix what is not broken :/
That’s more-or-less the point I was trying to make. I’m calling it a “terrain nerf” to Mesmer and Thief.
First, that’s not really relevant to my post. Second, no I don’t think Mesmer needs a nerf. We have 1, count them, 1 build that’s acceptable for PvP. The level of protection we have is minor in comparison to that of War or DH.
Mesmer is dependent on movement. To a lesser extent confusing or at least slowing the enemy by presenting a lot of targets.
This change expressly favors ranger , war and dh. DH and war were already arguably OP and now ranger is as well on this map.
Ranked allows pre mades in the off season. I’m guessing that’s a big part of it.
This map is basically a huge advantage to ranger, dh and war now. The opening of the field of fire was a huge buff to ranged fire.
I can’t help feeling Mesmer and thief got targeted hard.
this design change was not thought through at all.
Rangers are cleaning up all over Khylo. Most of the field of fire restriction is gone.
This was a huge terrain nerf to Mesmer and thief and a tremendous buff to ranger, dh and war… as if they needed it.
Sadly.. this will probably eventually lead to cries of OP and a major nerf to rnager longbow. That wouldn’t bother me much. It’s an example of not looking at the consequences of a design decision.
I have a sincere question of the devs: Why do you dislike Mesmer so much?
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
I really needed the counter magic keybind. Still, soloed him after I figured out to keep spamming bloodstone fragments on in him in the second phase.
Asking for win only rewards skirts very close to elitism. PvP is already fairly unattractive to new people.
If new people get hammered and get no rewards in the bargain..? Regardless of the faction that wants only “skilled” players, PvP needs population.
Such a step would drive away even more people and reduce match quality still further.
Aside from that, it seems that “skilled” players are those who agree with the particular poster.
This patch removes most of the impediments to field of fire. That seems to be an ongoing trend.
By more-or-less removing Mesmer’s mobility edge, ANET cripples the class hard.
Moreover, it’s a large buff to DH, Ranger and Engineer on the map. It makes missle fire far more effective.
This is more-or-less a “terrain nerf” to Mesmer and to some extent thieves. At the same time it makes Ranger potentially dominant along with DH.
I see an ongoing trend to simplify maps, “dumb them down.” There’s also a homogenization of the classes. Every class can do practically every thing. I definitely think that’s unhealthy for the game.
The patch removes most of the impediments to field of fire on Khylo. This is a huge buff to DH, ranger , engi.
It also pretty strongly kittens Mesmers. Now I have no shelter from ranger rf, dh pull… and it removes my primary mobility advantage.
I can’t help feeling that Mesmers and thieves are being targeted hard.
35 deaths so far. This is really not fun. It kinda ruins the story for me.
She was amazing. Not only as a Mesmer, they made her feel like a human and a ruler.
If we could do what she does, we’d just slap Jormag down and put it in the dragon house for bad behaviour.
A good story. It was well paced and not too short. Though truthfully, I wouldn’t have minded longer.
My first comment upon returning with full bags from the lake? “I’m proud of my Queen.” Another player said,“She’s a baddass Queen.”
This story really made her a human and an awesome Mesmer. Nice storytelling.
Where was Countess Anise? What About Kasmeer? I had hopes she would reclaim her noble status by aquitting herself well in this battle.
I was really surprised that The Countess didn’t have an Assassin poised to take out Lady Estelle or some counter magic. After all, she had more or less arrested her for treason and set her up to be used similar to Cannach.
I only have 4K on my main. If I add my alt’s games I make 5k.

Logan is a bit of a wuss. That’s why I find him annoying. Braham is a positive menace, a loose cannon.
Why should ANET run tourney’s? I don’t see what they gain, beyond potential tax writeoffs.
The viewership hasn’t been high. The players themselves have been toxic at times. I’d much rather the money was spent on PvP and/or LS.
This used to be the case. It was removed because it was bad.
Several of those episodes involved major world events. If you missed those, they are perma locked.
I’m here to play GW2. Pro Leaguers changing games encourages me to stay here. If a certain streamer believes he’ll pull players to another game, I think he is seriously mistaken.
Every time I hear this type of complaint, I think of all the times I’ve crushed a 5 man with a few decent pugs, and shake my head.
I highly agree with you. However the problem is, that ANet kicked all but the most devouted decent PUGs out of GW2 with beyond bad match making over the course of a year. To replace them with PvEers for the most part couldn’t care less about winning or losing. Getting highly unbalanced matches game after game after game will do that to decent pugs. But yeah most times decent randoms can actually take out a pre made.
I don’t agree. The day I started PvP I was there to win. Very few people enter a contest without some desire to win.
If by caring about winning you mean joining a team… well I’m not interested in that. I come to play GW2 not schoolyard politics in HoTM.
PvE ‘rs are the future PvP players. This dedicated community of PvP players that folks keep talking about attracting… Well it’s mainly a myth.
I’m guessing Pro League hasn’t given much return on investment. The viewership hasn’t been very high and the players haven’t done a good job of “selling” the game.
I’d rather ANET focused on sustaining the game.
shrug I guess it really was all about the money.
Actually Lazarus was repentant about leaving Kryta in crisis and seemed to want to repair the mistake. I fully expect him to assassinate Caudecus. He could also drain Caudecus’ power at a critical moment.
Based on what he said in the egg chamber.. he wants to make the White Mantle a member of the pact, more-or-less.
If you want to bring ranks into it I’m legendary so knock yourself out lol
Oops youre a 1400 low gold rating. That’s a blatant lie. Ouch public ratings telling it like it is.
Obviously his alt account is in Legendary, duh :P
Oh yeah totally not legendary :o, these back pieces come from bronze
You’re Joking, right?
Actually no, I’m not lol feel free to correct me, these wings must be from bronze but what do I know right?
wings = everything i say is correct
Says person is not legendary and says they’re a liar, person shows item only attainable by legendary rank, gets mad
Yeah, sounds about right.
Uhmm no, those wings are not only attainable by Legendary. My alt account got them, never rising above ruby.
Beside that, your statement sounds incredibly arrogant. “I’m a legendary playing dh, therefore dh is not op and you all are wrong.” You may wish to rethink that line of reasoning.
I’d say DH is no problem at all if class stacking is removed. It’s not the class it’s the multiple copies of the class working together.
I agree. The titles shouldn’t be given. Of course, there has been cause to think that about each of the four previous seasons too.
It was in the code that Evan posted. In the method for “offseason” it showed 5 permitted to group.
I think this is a serious misjudgement. It is clearly intentional though.
The matchmaking is worse when pre-mades are in play. That route pleases the pre-mades and more-or-less victimizes solos.
PSA Don’t report this here. ANET will punish you for it. File a customer service ticket instead.
I don’t agree. I remember the days of 5 rangers and the days of 5 hambow wars rolling over everything in sight.( Hambow continued to be dominant for weeks or months before it was addressed. )
I honestly thought the OP was being sarcastic. Class stacking has been an issue for as long as I’ve been in PvP. It should be locked out.
I see the whole team queue thing as a crutch. It makes players look and feel better than they really are.
I’d like to see pure solo queue with enough rewards to keep PvE players coming to investigate. Realistically, matches will be poor if the population continues low.
Yep, you’re right. I’m deeply disappointed, but you are right.
I really hope min games for next season will be at least 100 matches.
but thanks for doing this now.
We were thinking something like 10 per week, but it is configurable. We could to 1 a day, 20 per 2 weeks, etc.
The only problem with 10 per week is if people going on vacations for a week and failing the requirement,
So it could be every 2 weeks at least with a minimum total amount of at least 100 please.
The cutoff works just like dishonor in that if you come back and play those 10 games, you’ll go right back on the leaderboard. If you go on vacation a week before the season ends, well, then decay will remove you anyways.
So if I understand this correctly, someone could play just enough games to meet the minimum total requirement and place high on the leaderboards, AFK the entire rest of the season, then come back and play 10 more ranked games a day or two before the season ends and still keep their rank near the top? Or is this a 10 games per week thing where if they stop playing for say 7 weeks they have to play 70 games to get back on the leaderboard? Because I don’t think the prior is all that fair to the people who do play everyday and are risking their MMR every day.
The total is cumulative. If it’s 10 per week and an 8 week season, you need to have played 80 games by the end of the season.
The emphasis is mine.
No, what’s being said is that the matchmaker will make bad matches to keep the average queue time low.
Blah. The expac sells on having more powerful classes. This means that the next set of elites naturally wants to be more powerful than HoT. They’ll probably introduce
[Tactical Nuke] as a War skill as a tongue-in-cheek example.
I’m really not looking forward to whatever the “next level” power specs are.
80 was the stated number for end of season
This has not been completed. The current leader board shows a player in the #4 slot with only 39 games.
I humbly request that anet do as stated and require 80 games to be on the leaderboard.
What we see today is the result of that choice. There are still queues at all. Match quality has gone down because population is low.
If you create a situation where only players you like are permitted, it’s going to get lonely fast.
ANET is preserving PvP by attracting players. The best response would be to welcome and nurture the new players.
This is why when I make a dungeon group, it is nearly always “all welcome.”
On this, I’ve just come back from GW1 where I observed some PvP matches.
Quite literally, nothing was happening. I watched one guild member complete a “flawless victory” by standing and doing nothing.
This is a good example of what happens when elitism is allowed to take over. I, for one, don’t think that “filtering out” players is a good idea.
Thank you I was wondering who the woman was that was threatening “regicide.”
Uhmm Lady Wi is a prominent Whispers Agent. The Order of Whispers is most definitely supportive of Queen Jennah. It would be a story breaking stretch if she tried to kill the Queen.
There has been a door to the Crystal Desert/Elona in the fields of ruin for years. I’m guessing that’s the next expac. It’ll be either that or Cantha, given that China is in the GW2 family.
As to LS, The White Mantle is based in (what I think is) the old GW1 Bloodstone Fen. I’m guessing there will be world events around Divinity’s Reach and some events/new map in Bloodstone Fen.
From what I’ve personally noticed since ANet started to bribe PvEers to PvP in ranked in Season 1. GW2’s PvP match quality took a complete nose dive and has been getting worst and worst ever since.
You talk about GW1 elitism as a bad thing…it had its disadvantages but the main benefit was filtering of true pvpers from the rest.
I find the term, “True PvPer” amusing in this context. I’ve been called most of the names in the book and been singled out as an example of a non “competitive” player by an ESL player.
Yet, I have over 300 games this season and am here playing most days of the week. I’ve invested hundreds of USD in gaming gear. What do I need to do to reach the exalted state of “true pvper?”
Seriously though, this attitude is not productive. PvP needs players, even if having classes that are a bit less difficult to play and some pve rewards annoys some of the players.
It attracts new players, who in turn may become invested in the mode and later become skilled.
Skill doesn’t just pop into existence from nothing.
This. One of the contributing factors to bad match quality is a lack of population. The rewards are there to attract new players.
No new players = dead game mode.
I like Skyhammer, it’s an exciting map. Spiritwatch would be a terrible choice, or should I say “teamdeathmatchwatch?” No, thank you.
Coliseum might be an interesting choice. It would need class stacking removed though.
The leader board fix to prevent late season sniping is evidently not working. The lengths people will go to to game the system amaze me. Devs please see #4 in the screenshot enclosed.
Anyways after three straight stacked matches, I’ve got my league participator daily.. time to wander off to some other game mode.
@BlackBeard – I agree that chrono shatter spam is real and is a problem, but I disagree with your solution to that. Instead of increasing the CD of SoIllusions, I would change the active effect to just decrease shatter CD by 50% of their base CD. So if you aren’t running the Illusions line it would cut 25 sec off of Distortion’s CD, 6 sec off of MW’s CD. If you just increase the CD of the skill, it doesn’t stop anyone from using it in CS, and it doesn’t stop anyone from using all of their shatters twice or even 3 times in a row. Decreasing the active effect however does stop people from using all of their shatters twice in a row on core mesmer, or 3 times in a row on chrono. So this is a larger nerf to the optimal utility you can gain from the signet without just increasing the CD of it.
Yeah I support Ori on this, it’s nice when skills can be used more frequently but have weaker effects, instead of longer CDs but stronger effects. The latter just causes 1v1s to be decided based on who was fighting most recently, that’s not fair or fun.
As a chrono, if I enter a fight with Shield 4 on CD I’m screwed. Not a problem for shatters because F1,F2 recharge fast and I start my rotation with either confounding images or blocks, so it takes 5-6 seconds for me to even be ready to shatter. If I enter a fight with nothing on CD I can spend the first 10 seconds blocking nonstop and getting off 3 shatters. Seems pretty OP to me.
Except that the double resistance War you are fighting will shrug it all off with damage immunity. Or if it happens to be a dh, block and immune it all.
There’s also that tried and true defense to shatters: dodge.
Chrono has one, count them, one “good” build. That build is reliant on pretty much everything in it. A nerf would very likely put chrono out of the game.
Beside that, Mesmer takes significant skill to play. You really can’t just face roll.
Yes, Mesmer can hit hard if it’s well played AND timed to get around the enemy’s defense. A vault thief learned that lesson from me a few minutes ago. That’s a skill factor though, unlike some of the other builds out there.
Again, the code shows pre mades in ranked in the off season.
That would be re introducing a dynamic that lends itself to curb stomping and exploiting solos like myself.
I have nothing against premades per se. The trouble is that they have been and probably will be used as a tool to game the system and exploit.
The psuedo code shows a max of 5 for ranked in off season play. I think that would be a very serious mistake. It will drive off still more players.
