Lions pls.
Please just allow me to press esc to cancel the cutscene.
The esc key is actually extremely confusing. There are alot of keys on the keyboard and as a new player you have to look down and sort through all the keys until you find the esc key, then you have to actually press it which I might add is very difficult for some people. There are many finger amputees in this game who would find your remarks about adding an esc key option very alienating and discriminatory.
Key studies have suggested that the typical player has very poor literacy skills and cannot even read the LFG post descriptions, so in addition to finding the esc key, they have to be able to read and recognise it.
Sincerely,
Disgruntled Mind Brain Swiftpaw.
Too confusing for new players.

You are the best support with offensive support on your ranger in dungeons. That includes berserker gear.
Check out Gabe’s link to the metabattle site, that’s the build that is most effective in dungeon on your ranger.
Frost spirit and Spotter will substantially support your group’s damage output which is the main focus when doing dungeons. (+10% damage chance and a boost to precision which increases critical chance of attacks.)
Whirling defence from axe 5 is a reflect that can be used to fill in between more effective reflects such as wall of reflect and feedback, but it is useful all the same. Your Stalker pet will supply might, your jaguar will supply more damage with the F2. If your party lacks fire+blasts you can quickly swap to a torch and use Bonfire, then swap to a warhorn to blast for might before putting your Longbow back on.
With this build you supply a great burst for the first 10 seconds of the fight, and some quick vulnerability. Your heal can be Healing spring to supply condition removal and a water field, but keep in mind that fire fields are usually more important so use it when it’s required. Path of scars can be used off cooldown, just be weary of the defiance, it can also be used to pull mobs towards you so long as you align yourself correctly for the returning axe to hit the mob.
You can use LB4 and path of scars to strip Defiant from bosses, just keep in mind how many stacks there are and try not to apply defiant in between as something like an ele’s Icebow 5 is a more effective CC.
I have a link to some videos of this build in action that I hope may be helpful to you in understanding how a ranger fits into dungeon parties.
All I can gather from the amount of noise in this thread is that pugging must suck.
I’m glad to be in my evil zerker meta guild.

The rotation in the guide is. LB 2 while walking to the boss, LB5, then switch to S/A and stay on it. Never rotate back to LB infight.
Pretty boring gameplay.Start of fight: Place frost spirit. Inventory swap in a torch, place fire field down, swap in a warhorn, blast it, Use Jungle stalker F2 AoE might roar, be sure to reel pet in before it runs in and locks you in combat. Swap in your longbow.
Open with Rampage as One, Signet of the wild, quickening zephire, Jaguar’s F2 Stalk, Barrage, LB 2, swap to sword/Axe. Sword Autos + use path of scars off cooldown. When boss is at like 10% (give or take judging by how fast you party is killing the thing) health swap to LB, use barrage + rapid fire again.
Note to use whirling defence when reflect is required can be quite useful, not as dps increase however. Be sure to let more important cc’s take place if there is no defiance eg. Ele icebow 5, before you start hitting your path of scars on things.
Be aware that you can use your Path of scars and LB 4 to strip defiant so that important cc’s can be applied again.
Bad things are going to hurt you? Serpent’s strike, or if you are really game, hornet’s sting.
The real excitement is running trash with tonics on
Ideal you would never need the torch or warhorn cuz you will have two eles in the party and you should never need swiftness when you have Skipping swords (my new name for fgs). Also I HATE that I’m forced to use tonics to manipulate the pets kittenty AI.
Question: Would axe 5 be worth traiting to make bigger if your party doesn’t have a mes or guardian? or would it be better to let a D/F ele do there thing. I know off hands is a must for lupi just to make the kitten ed fight faster.
Of course, ideally.
I find I’m doing it alot if I feel like a spot of pugging -.-
As for whirl, for something like Lupi, yes I agree.
For most other things I think you need to think about each situation accordingly. An example off the top of my head where I think it’s worthwhile traiting is CM barnyard boss when your party wants to stack on him and you lack reflects for the adds up the top.
If you wanna leave things up to a focus ele, just think about how long it’s gonna take for the thing that needs reflecting to die and if that focus is going to be enough to cover it all.
Key factors are how tightly people are stacking, how long thing takes to die taking into account your cool downs, and if there’s any other sorts of reflects/absorbs in party eg. focus ele, mes, guard, thief etc.
(edited by J Eberle.9312)
I’m assuming you are rather new.
The answer is that your racial skills are pretty weak and not of any real use so you don’t need to worry about if you are a sylvari or a charr or norn etc.
The berserker PvE build that will be most useful for your ranger (in dungeons) is the meta build by Brazil.

Ima add to this, now. Just a couple hours back I got lagged out of chat for about 15 mins but the game was working fine, then all of a sudden massive lag in the 3 man CoE dungeon I was doing till we got to the laser room and DC + unable to reconnect. I was upset so went to to take pictures of my dog until I felt better.
Aint nothing going to happen until another SABgate on gw2 reddit, then they’ll send someone over to smoothtalk the mouthfrothers and within a couple weeks people will realise they were duped again and we will slide back into the nobody cares about dungeons rut.
Didn’t that already happen when we had a “Dungeon fix talk” with threads of suggestions and bugfixes for each dungeon?
Oh yes, it’s the circle…the circle of life.
I remember that staff craze people went though a year or so ago. err’body wanted dem staff rangers.
When I join pugs on my ranger I know what they’re thinking. I ping my gear and weapon setups + my frost spirit to put them at ease. I usually get a ‘thankyou’ and then there’s no issue. I totally agree with people not wanting to take them because I have yet to see one ranger in a pug that’s running the up to date meta build, and I pug alot, even when I’m on DR… (bad addiction.)
I’m just gonna chill over here and watch.
Ooh lordy that’s a paddlin’.
Guys my empower literally basically actually out heals the damage.
I’m just waiting for the day they finally do something about it and…
.. make it worse.
I think the dungeon forums are an interesting example. A while back when the SAB kitten hit the fan and people were going crazy, a red post popped in the dungeon forums promising to listen to feedback. People went crazy, omg they care about us! etc etc.
This only happened due to mass outrage on reddit and etc, so someone got sent in for damage control to settle the mouthfrothers down. A couple months later and it’s back to the same old.
The main issue is the amount of times legitimate concerns have been left to fester and rot away in that subforum. Rarely if ever is ‘feedback’ acted upon, someone just comes in once or twice a year and reassures people that they are ‘listening’. I think many of us can fully understand if at this point, all you can do is ‘listen’ and do nothing due to resource shortages etc, but the way in which things have been phrased gives people false hope. They waste hours of their time writing up posts and arguing amongst themselves and for no real result. If we had a stickied thread at the top for ‘communication’ I’m not sure how it would change this situation.
I also agree that it’s hard to know which problems are more important than others when you heap them all into one thread, every tom kitten and jerry will want to throw his 2 cents in. Perhaps there should be a more visible ‘thumbs up’ method, with posts that receive the higher numbers of thumbs up from players coming up first in that thread to be more easily picked out.

I’m pretending raids aren’t happening, that way when they do happen I have nothing to be disappointed about if they’re bad, and a pleasant surprise if they’re good.
Please, inundate me with the power of your mind brain and kittening teach me how to forget about that CDI happening. Every day I check, every day I feel dirty…

I received a message was well. Looking like this is the case
Yep. To those wishing to message the Security lead about said person with information, his contact info is here:
I’d really like to have my lion back from GW1.
Ehem Elona expansion cough cough
warhorn 5. Drake also has a blast although u cant really decide when to use that.
@ Someday. The new meta is here, ideal build is 6/5/0/3/0. It’s a few changes to add more damage.
Don’t need as many points in Nature magic, and Axe offhand is a better deal than Warhorn while in combat for most cases. Warhorn should mostly be used outside of combat for blasting fire/stealth and providing swiftness.
And agreed, speccing for ‘healing’ is not good idea for PvE on ranger.
Uhm I don’t agree with the traits to be honest just because that 5%+ damage is not something reliable on the stack meta, but you always have boons and that 5% also works for the pet, so you’re obtaining that 10% always instead of depending how the stack is or if the boss is using knockbacks. Some people don’t use 5 on NM because they don’t see value on using Spirit Unbound, and I would agree except for the fact that most fights, if the group is somewhat good, won’t last more than 30-40 seconds and then you’re on the run again.
Axe is good, I agree with that, but I won’t let my horn in my inventory while pugging, because most of the time people won’t use blast finishers. I’ve been on parties where I was the only one using it…But yeah, that isn’t a bad build either.
A little trick to running with just 3 in NM is that once your fight is over and out are out of combat you can swap out frost spirit for something else, eg signet of the hunt to immediately start the 20 second cooldown, I find in many cases by the time I arrive at next fight I have frost spirit back up again to use. I’ll probably only take a point out of skirm and place into NM for unbound for few select things like the end of AC P2 on detha traps where I’m moving between mobs way too frequently for the skill swapping to work out.
I’m not quite sure what you are trying to say about the stack meta. The 10% to your damage and 5% to your pet’s damage from predator’s onslaught is pretty consistent I have found, the mob doesn’t need to be moving, it just has to have one of those conditions on it which is very, very common even in parties where people are completely unaware.
(edited by J Eberle.9312)
I think that OP is right and we should be a bit more understanding of his circumstances. His build is actually very in line with the meta now.
And u´re still pushing sword 1 97% of the time. Torch FF is usually not needed. Horn can be used.
Axe 4 works only if u don´t fight on a wall, guard reflects do more dmg (so he/she should do it).
RaR is most times not needed too.
LB5 cd is long, most fights are over before it is rdy again.Old build was more fun, no need to open inventory to swap LB/WH and/or possibel rotation with dagger/axe.
Open inventory to switch weapons before combat is not hard, not challenging, just annoying. And annoying things don´t make fun.
97% of the time? so 3% of the time on the LB? O_O
Never claimed the axe offhand reflect was to replace anything, it’s just there for in between things (when required). Common sense dictates for most things that a guardian’s wall or a mesmer’s feedback is what should be relied on first. (Although I do encourage people to give offhand training + sig of the wild + whirling defence a try on lupicus’s aoe.)
Rarely fighting things in walls these days. Fgs nerf and all that.
If your Barrage is still on CD, doesn’t matter because your rapid fire rarely will be, just time it closer to it dying.
Torch fire field is needed depending on your team, I trust again that most people understand when to use it based on party composition and quality of players in said party.
Never said anything was hard, just didn’t want people standing around thinking the rather bare bones rotation you just explained was all there is to it. It’s important to have the details.

I love it.
Expansion.
That’s it.
Now here’s a guy who is not being sarcastic ;)
I’m gonna post this here and hopefully it helps u guys like it did just for me:
Ok guys I do NOT recommend doing a redirect in your hosts file or using software.
THE BEST FIX IS WHAT ANET HAS RECOMMENDED: CHANGE YOUR DNS SETTINGS
Why? Because using a better DNS is actually better for your internet connection in general (could actually speed up your connection), and there’s no need to ever switch back.
I have found that Google’s DNS servers did not work for me, so I used Level3’s DNS servers, they work flawless.
Here’s how (for Windows 7 users):
- Go the Control Panel.
- Click “Network and Internet”, then “Network and Sharing Center”, and click “Change adapter settings”.
- To change the settings for an Ethernet cable connection, right-click “Local Area Connection”, and click “Properties”.
To change the settings for a wireless adapter connection, right-click “Wireless Network Connection”, and click “Properties”.- If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Select the “Networking” tab. Under “This connection uses the following items”, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then click “Properties”.
- Click “Advanced” and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window.
- Click OK.
- Select Use the following DNS server addresses. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server or Alternate DNS server, write them down for future reference.
- Replace those addresses with the IP addresses of the Level3 DNS servers:
- Primary DNS Server: 209.244.0.3
- Secondary DNS Server: 209.244.0.4
The following steps may vary a little depending on your router model, I’m using the one from Verizon:
- Next login to your router by putting “192.168.1.1” (without the quotes) in your web address bar of your browser.
- Your user name is “admin” and the password is “password” or “password1” by default. NOTE: If they don’t work, go to your router and press in the reset button (tiny hole on back) for 15 seconds and release. Login to your router again after waiting 20 seconds, and now you should be able to set your own password.
- Once logged in, go to “My Network” at the top.
- Select “Network Connections” on the left side.
- You will see two listings called “Broadband Connection”, one is Ethernet, one is coax. Click on whichever one is connected.
- At the bottom, click on “Settings”
- Where it says “DNS Server”, change it to “Use the following DNS Server Addresses” and change the Primary DNS Server to 209.244.0.3 and the secondary to 209.244.0.4.
- Hit “apply”, then hit “apply” again.
If all goes well, you should now be able to start up GW2 like normal.
You may have to reboot your router and/or your PC for everything to reset itself. My wireless USB adapter went to “disabled” status and i had to unplug it and plug it back in but once I did, everything was back to full speed.
I just did the computer end of these changes and didn’t touch my router. Problem solved and can now access the game again
Australia here, it’s my suspicions as well.
Spotflux not working for me I’m at about 60 attempts now to download and I have tried the language swap as well. hmm.
What else can ranger bring to group except spotter and spirits? Water field, 10 sec lasting, with 30s cd? Soft cc in form of traps?
Mind these are things you pretty much never see in a pug ranger, even one running spotter/frost, so I do agree with you:
- Good burst for first 10 secs of fight.
- Vauln application.
- Might from the pet/Fury from the pet. Two methods to remove Defiant stacks (LB4 and path of scars). Drake can also provide intermittent blast finishers although I don’t like them much.
- Access to quickness + Signet of the Wild’s +25% damage modifier + an icebow 4 if ele on team = easy GG.
- Water field also cleanses condi’s.
- Torch 5 + Warhorn 5 = Firefield + blast before fight.
- Warhorn blast also useful for smoke fields for stacking stealth before running trash.
- In a trashy team with crap guardian, Signet of renewal is an instant and powerful party cleanse, example being at the end of AC P2, trash mobs at the detha traps applying a bunch of condis and a fear that can destroy bad teams.
- Entangle/muddy terrain for CC on things like Tar boss.
- large area reflect for lupicus when traited into offhand training. As evidenced here: http://youtu.be/eBhXuTQJPLU?list=PL5yrnXqXtyJs_xDbrIjy3qoY2eKQEb30Q
I beg of pugs to please just at the very least run spotter/frost, but if they want to be really useful then run the entire meta build.
