Pfft, why not give it fury and quickness too with the stun?
I think a 20 sec cooldown and about a 3sec protection would make for nice gameplay that rewards combat awareness.
Female norn 1h sword is horrible. The last swing of the chain is a smack with the hilt rather than an actual arc with the blade.
It doesn’t fit to a sword fighter and it surely doesn’t fit a guardian.

Isnt it possible to save some money by crafting magic find armor now and then change it after patch to for example knight or berseker, which are 2x the price of magicfind armor?
Indeed, a lot of people are probably already doing what you just mentioned.
Wouldn’t it be funny if people did that only to find that after the patch, those 1000s of crafted magic find armour/weapons suddenly become account bound?
“Saving money” doesn’t imply powertrading.
I updated my signature in acknowledgment of the PAX fiasco and Colin’s delightfully honest answer to the PvP question at the panel.
I’m not being dramatic when I say it’s time to move on, like after the death of a loved one. No need to get melodramatic over it.
If players want more people to play in sPvP something needs to be done about toxic players.
So what kind of subcranial implant to you suggest, one that releases chemicals into the subjects brain or one that interfaces with the neural network via electrical impulses directly?
He said nothing obviously inflammatory that could be sanctioned I’m afraid.
It’s the same thing in League of Legends, another PvP heavy game. Constant trash talking is not healthy and needs to be addressed. Bad.
From his view point, you were the first one to start trash talking. Are you seriously that oblivious to not see that?
They just need to look at GW1 to see how wrong they are. In 2011, when I was last active, you could still find easily a group for Hero’s Ascent, probably easier than one for tPvP now. This is 6 years after the game has been released. The same applies to Fort Aspenwood, my game mode of choice – you could always find a match, long after support for most forms of PvP were abandoned. GvG was also lively, but not quite as much as HA.
The modes were just attractive enough by themselves to keep players interested for more than half a decade.
I can’t comment on the state of GW2 competitive sPvP because … well, my friends/guildies aren’t interested in it unlike the above two GW1 modes (which is a bad sign as well, but not the topic). Maybe it’s thriving away from my view, but I highly doubt it’s doing as well as GW1 competitive PvP.
Yes there were too many game modes. AB and JQ could have been rolled into one, FA could have been a more casual subtype of GvG, RA and TA/CA were too segregated as well, Hero Battles were too exploitable, etc.
But one single framework with the exact same maps, same game mode, same meta, same everything is too far into the other extreme. It creates ennui.
(And no, online RPG PvP isn’t like TF2. To think players can be satisfied with the same half-dozen maps and the same game type forever is utterly futile.)
Not everything was as much of a failure long-term as Team Arenas or low-end GvG. Don’t measure the state of GW1 PvP on only it. Measure it by it’s success stories.

It’s not hard, it’s impossible. These server line up makes people quit playing wvw.
Yes it’s impossible to win the matchup, but it’s not impossible to have some awesome (and very profitable) fights, sieges and duels.
Does everyone live in some parallel universe where a single transfer away doesn’t cost 40-70 gold or 12-20€/$?
Do you really presume you’ll get more than 40 gold’s worth of rewards for just logging in on the winning server?
Jesus christ your alarmism is astonishing.
Excitedly waiting for further specifics.
I think this is a massive step in the right direction.
Also I hate to bring it up again, but WvW being made semi-competitive, this makes it somewhat more important that ever to give GvGers a separate game mode so that we don’t get bad blood for them taking up map slots.
I really hope that material rewards are based on participating rather than winning. If the end of the season does not reward any items/gold/etc, then I can’t see much of a motive for bandwagoning. tPvP back-ends its rewards, hotjoin doesn’t, for a reason, and WvW is far more analogous to hotjoin than tPvP.
It sounded like the reward is something that only PvPers would want like finishers and likely WXP/badges anyway. In fact, even if it turns out to be regular loot, I would prefer if the whole server receives a slice of the pie too. Less than an active player, but still a little acknowledgment. It’s the ideal promotion to get people to join WvW, to make them notice it’s even there, since the crafting/gathering/etc. bonuses evidently don’t.
Can we get someone at Arena Net who has a clue about what WvWvW should be about please. […]
How about you tone it down a bit?
(edited by Jamais vu.5284)
Congrats on FoW for getting out of trashbin tier! I bet your WvW community ached long under the ever same T9 match up and is now happy facing new challenges (even though our server might be a bit too much for now).
The only conspiracy here is yours Timi, especially since after looking up “skill Lag” youtube videos for GW2, they occur during zerg on zerg engagements.
[…]
Deamhan, posts with a red tag are developer posts. You might be unaware of this, but Devon is the lead of the WvW team at ArenaNet. A few posts above yours, he confirmed that it’s a server side issue, specifically due to server CPU computation issues, as well as in countless other threads.
Skill lag is also an entirely separate matter from framerate.
Yours is a futile position.
Also thanks for chiming in Devon.
I don’t use them but I played against a few who do.
Even with a whopping 13-18 stacks, they hit me for 2k-2.5k tops. Which is about an autoattack from a zerk. I’ve yet to play someone who is fully specced for cond damage with them, but after doing the math they can’t be doing drastically more than 3.5k per hit if you have a 15~ stack.
I do not see the issue. Well, I do if you use full-zerker with 900 vitality in WvW (questionable choice) and spam your skills through. Then this rune is deadly. But so would be a Backstab thief or a Killshot warrior. It’s no more or less gimmicky than those builds.
If you can’t remove your conds timely, maybe you should … stop mindlessly attacking. This actually neutralizes 90% of confusion damage. And it’s not like they are permanently covered with a ton of other conditions, in my experience. The rune is rather ingeniously balanced against the fact that builds who have a lot of interrupts don’t have many strong condition options (atleast not until fear counts as an interrupt).
Here is an idea… allow a few players to “guest” on the wvw of a server of a much lower rank… catch would be is that it is TOTALLY random, that you would be going with you and yourself only… Anet could assign these guests to be able to guest on the server they are assigned for the entire day…then tomorrow they would be assigned all over again. Totally voluntary, somewhat increased rewards to the Guesting players for volunteering while there, player could still play on their own server at any time of course.
Just an off the wall idea… but it could help the lower population servers and since you are essentially Guesting ALONE you would not be able to bring a Guild group over as one……. should be a rather balanced solution.
I like it. A mercenary system of sorts. Best make a thread on it’s own about it.
I originally intended to post this in another thread, but that one was more general anti-“zerging”. So let’s make a thread analyzing the WvW maps specifically, namely Borderlands, and our suggestions to improve the remaining areas after the lake has been overhauled.
I made a quick, ugly map to illustrate how space on BL is utilized and wasted.
Encircled in green is the lake area, which was announced to be revamped.
Encricled in red are wasted areas. For regular WvWing (i.e. excluding POI hunting and the JP) they never get visited except on the way to the northern camp, and I can count the instances where I witnessed fights happening there (all on the road), in 12 months of WvW, on one hand. They are wasted space best remodelled radically.
Encircled in yellow are the geographically problematic areas. They too are mainly used as transit areas, but the alterations there could be held to a minimum. They’re mostly hampered by their difficult geography and inaccessibility. I think they don’t need objectives, because a few areas of the map should be “remote” too, but they need to be better interwoven with the rest of the map’s fabric.
Blue are the areas I think fulfill the above: Somewhat remote or less-frequently travelled areas off the roads, yet fights between roamers or zergs occur – in my experience – fairly often.
Another way to easily increase square footage would be to shrink the citadel area a bit. It currently takes up a good ninth of the map.
(edited by Jamais vu.5284)
Remove speed boosts and 10% or no reduction is a sweeter spot. You don’t want to make the traps ubiquitous.
It is ridiculous how easy it is as a zerg to maintain perma-swiftness.
Zerg slowing trap already exists… They are called Sentries
They’re more like filters to weed out randoms.
I always have the impression “analyses” and suggestions and like that are made by people who don’t even WvW often.
The reality of a prolonged battle between severs is:
- Alliances would form, adding a much more fun dynamic to the game, when one server greatly dominates the other.
- Strategic gameplay would develop, as people began to realize you can’t just zergball around for 1 week.
You’re being so naive it’s adorable. If there’s a red-lettered tower sticking out like a sore thumb in our frontyard that is tempting you with WXP, XP, coin, karma and map domination, no one would care if you have an “alliance” with that server.
… that would actually benefit you how? Since timetables are so incredibly long in your version, what could conceivably be the goal to winning? If there’s no winning condition, alliances are worthless.
- People would get bored of the Zerg Ball, and more “Roaming” groups would develope as the focus on PPT would lessen.
People don’t zerg because of PPT but because it’s fun and gives bags.
If you think you can’t have tactical large-scale combat you should play WvW more often, because you evidently don’t.
Also funny how, when prompted, everyone has a different definition of “zerging”. For some it’s only upwards of 40v40, for some it’s as low as 10v10. Adds further discredit to your position.
(edited by Jamais vu.5284)
The mats will absolutely drop in WvW. In addition, generally speaking, we are putting a heavier emphasis on finding long-term solutions to redressing the reward imbalance between PvE and WvW. I can’t claim they will ever be 100% equal all the time, but we would like it to never be the case that you are choosing between playing WvW and getting good rewards. The two should be one in the same.
Maybe use the opportunity to slightly make roaming more equal to zerging economically.
Yes it should never be the case that one who kills e.g. 10 players and caps a couple camps and hours gets the exact same loot or WXP and someone who kills a hundred and caps a couple towers, but it shouldn’t be whole orders of magnitudes less profitable either.
A way would be to make enemies that lived longer, in addition to more XP, drop gradually better loot too, which however wouldn’t be the case any longer if there are XX players in the vicinity (i.e. the drop rate within zergs would be unchanged).
That would reward roaming soloists/small groups who kill supposedly dangerous enemy soloists/small groups.

…how do they look like? http://argos-soft.net/GW2ArmorGallery/index.php?sex=1&weight=3&race=3&color=0
Some tit_ties there, some string tanga there…Ye and belly free of course! Where did you get these great armor ideas from? These are supposed to be warriors and guardians, no underwear models!
Lets compare with other races females…
Charr, Asura and Sylvari are dressed differently, but human…
…That leaves the impression for me: As soon as it got female roundings, its needed to show more skin. Please what?!
This is a pluralistic society buddy, if you don’t like it you can chose what you like (of which there are more than enough options), not kitten on others.
Not to mention, being a GW1 vet, I find the airy cultural armors much more fitting for a Norn than a tin can.
…. as a character creation option for females.
I’m sure many people would like to have more natural facial options, others would chose some added blush etc. It’s a win-win. Most would prefer if the individual parts like eyeshadow or lip-gloss are separate.
Human females really draw the short end of the stick when it comes the number of variables, they got only the core “vanilla” choices, while males also have beards, not to mention Sylvari with their added skin pattern, glow, ears, etc.
You don’t have to kill off all current or future faces which have makeup (or the lack thereof) built in, just make them the preset options, but changeable.
Cons:
Probably would increase modelling load significantly. However, human females are surely the most or second most popular char type, so I think it would be worth it, not to mention all that sweet Gemstore potential. And it would reduce sameface syndrome.
SB rangers are top tier in sPvP.
I’m aiming this post towards the people who are sitting on thousands of gold, and buy thousands of event items like wind catchers or desert rose skins to maintain their great amount of in game wealth buy selling them months after that event, which does require work, luck, and most importantly strategy in its own. If I get a chance I will attempt to do the same as them with the money I do have from playing the game and living story as a normal person. I don’t think theres anything wrong in asking for help out of the blue, because you never know what can happen, even though I don’t expect anyone to help me out just because of this post, but I don’t want to leave any opportunities unexplored. I don’t want to sound entitled, I merely wish to put myself out there in case I get lucky by someone really wealthy and generous ingame reading this. Its not all that different than getting lucky with a precursor drop. I mean this is the players helping player forum, people can ask for whatever help they want and people can help them if they desire to, but in no ways are people obligated to do so and judging ones character based on just asking for help is a bit insensitive in my book. I’m putting my thoughts and wishes out to the universe so to speak and if I’m lucky, I may get what I desire, which is essentially the Law of Attraction that many people believe in.
And for the records I don’t smoke cigarettes or do any type of drugs lol, so I will try to take your budgeting advice to heart
Well your thread is still spam.
The temporary Living Story updates tend to work against the idea of a living world. Nothing in the world has really changed in the story really (maybe except the arena in Divinity’s Reach), Tyria in fall of 2013 is basically the same Tyria in fall of 2012.
A succinct summing up of my gripe with the current incarnation of LS. There’s nothing much to add to this.
Did ANet ever take a second and ponder how many players are actively turned off by updates like Super Adventure Box? Not only due to the nature of the content itself and the fact that it consumes resources that could have gone into a new Arah, but also because of the message it’s sending out? Of course you could say that two big expensive, fun-and-nonsense parties a year are easily overlooked … but we get atleast every second month a big, expensive fun-and-nonsense party by now, you know.
If they’re not doing it one this update, I take it Anet is content with one balance patch every three months or so.
Which is a bad sign in my opinion.
With the upcoming changes to the lake areas of the borderland maps, will there be any underwater combat areas left in WvW?
I realize a whole group of people out there hate underwater combat, but there were still those of us out there that enjoy it.
I’m so glad I finished my legendary Frenzy last month. Going to be a blast showing it off while walking around the borderlands. What a slap in the face.
Uh, yes. How often do you play WvW did you say? There’s the large lakes in the red and green quarters of EB, the three rivers in the southern half of borderlands (where I witnessed underwater GvG), and most notably, the only area where underwater combat in WvW actually does occur with regularity, the Bay keep.
In the livestream the lake was still on the map. the outer portion of it changed because of the new objectives, but it looked like the lake was still there,
The map wasn’t up to date yet. The lake is 90% gone.
(edited by Jamais vu.5284)
Now that it’s been elevated to a full weapon skill rather than part of a chain, I think it’s a fair suggestion that to update it to show something with a bit more spice, more energetic.
I’d love to see the GW1 icon translated into GW2, but basically anything is better than just a picture of the pointy end of the sword over an unicolor background.
I don’t think you understand what a retcon is:
When Prophesies was released, and it was all that GW was, every bit of lore presented to the player on the subject said “The gods created Tyria, summoned the Forgotten to be it’s stewards, and chose humanity as their special people”.
Then, when later things were published, they said, “Nope, that didn’t happen, it’s this way instead. That was never true, what are you talking about?”
That’s the definition of a retcon.
… dude, it’s a fictional religion. Who else do you think would the followers of that pantheon attribute the genesis of their world to, if not their deities?
If Charr shamans from Prophecies told you that the world was created by titans would that be a lore contradiction in your opinion? No it’s not.
I’m just waiting for Anet to match Trahearne against Scarlet in the most epic battle of good versus evil since Longcat vs Tacgnol.
Though I’m indifferent (which is somewhat of a negative, since I’d like to be excited) to the current “steampunk arc” of the LS, I hope they salvage it with the very last installment going into the lair of the villain behind the scenes, who just used Scarlet as the “public” face for his/her operations. Maybe even go all the way regarding Anet’s inspiration and make Scarlet the Harley Quinn to an as-of-yet unknown Joker.
Because their engine isn’t made for this. I won’t explain the details because that’s already been said over 9000 times.
Also because StarCraft doesn’t calculate boons, armor, buffs, might, vulnerability, weapon damage, crit chance, crit damage, traits and distance from the center of AoEs.
And it’s not the 80 people being on the map, it’s the 80 people FIGHTING on the map.
It’s pretty much impossible to get that amount of people/AI fighting at the same time on 1 map in a MOBA.
Please don’t compare shooter calculations to RPG calculations. Shooters like CoD and Battlefield(as far as I know) don’t have armor, crit chance, crit damage, boons, power scaling and probably other things that I can’t remember right now. At the same time GW2 has projectile calculations like a shooter.
BTW aren’t shooters always limited to 64 players or even lower numbers? I remember interviews discussing 64 players in Battlefield 4 being a big thing.
I think I’d have caused you an aneurysm if I used a more abstract analogy.
Your defense of Anet’s ineptitude is noble, but misguided. This is a partially defective product/consumer service (if we count online-based games as the latter). There’s no excuse for it one year after it has been released.
The only thing about stealth stomping that needs to change is people not recognizing it when it is happening. That’s not on Anet though.
People recognize it. All the time. Skilled people that is. To azsess and perceive whether the thief is attempting to stealth stomp or not is part of that miraculous thing despised in carebear circles called “strategy”.
I’ll offer a quick suggestion to alleviate remove a lot of the problem. As some others have said, cause the stomp to remove stealth/invul skills, and maybe even stability/blocks. The latter is very questionable. This leaves the stomper very vulnerable, so to counter this, shorten the channel time of the stomp. No more blind swings in hope of landing a CC on a stealthed stomper, hopelessly flailing away at an invulnerable one, or taking time to boon strip stability hoping someone else hits a CC in time. Stomping becomes a fast action that an aware, and fast responding, ally can prevent.
So how long do you supposed that new stomp should take? 2 seconds? 1 second? 0.5 second?
You don’t take into account that stomp is currently a sacrifice. It’s either a sacrifice of 3 seconds if you are tanky or otherwise survivable enough, or of a anti-CC skill that gets sent to CD.
2 seconds standing around motionless, essentially inactive, without any protection from CC from a third party is deadly, especially if you aren’t strictly in the former category. It downs you. It loses you the fight.
1 second is uninterpretable by GW2 mechanics, not that there are that many interrupts to begin with, and 0.5 is due to network ping issues.

WHERE TO START – Urban Battleground Fractal as GvG ARENA.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Guild-vs-Guild-Arenas/
It’s simple and easy to create for a start.
You (Anet) already stated that are reworking Living story dungeons (Molten Facility) to actually new Fractals so you can easily rework 1 fractal to a working GvG Arena as a base and pile more work and polish over it in time (or your free time like those guys who created Super Adventure Non-sense).
This is a great idea.
They literally just need to repurpose it as a small WvW map, add some objectives and voila.
Keep it barebones for a start, you can add the fluff later. Don’t even call it GvG if you want to reserve that trademark for the fully fleshed, grandiose reintroduction of the mode, just give us something till then.
Also everyone, please stop pestering Devon and Hugh (the dev in the livestream) about GvG. You are barking up the wrong tree. They are just the WvW team, decisions about GvG are done at a much higher level, and, currently, they’re not being paid for developing a GvG. It’s like asking the guy at your local PC store who installed your Windows 8 why he’s clinging to the Metro UI design philosophy.
That being said, it would be very nice of them if they relay our motion to their coworkers relevant in that decision making.
Are you meant to use psychic abilities to guess if they`re friendlies, enemies or mobs?
… did you even read his post? He said that it would promote scouting of the immediate area as a new gameplay element.
I think that suggestion is debatable, but I agree with OP’s general sentiment that it’s less than optimal. Often the only thing I’m seeing are nameplates drowning out other nameplates (I am not referring to invisible character models because of culling options).
It should be less clutter-y, either due to a smaller font or a symbol. It could still display the normal nameplate when the foes are nearer, but from far away any larger group currently just degenerates into a letter soup.
You literally have no reason to play a longbow in WvW as a warrior. Wariors provide something that except them only Guardians can provide: they are the vanguard that presses into the enemy position, soak the first wave of attacks and inflict heavy damage.
Longbow satisfies none of that. It does neither notable damage, nor does it help in the frontline, nor does it provide CC like a hammer war/guard, and it’s not a particularly tanky weapon set.
So, if it has to be one of those two, chose Grenade Engi, by a wide margin. If you want to play ranged generally, I’d recommend basically every other class but Warrior. Necros or Eles are always much sought after for their (ranged) attacks (Mesmers are highly sought after as well of course as well, but more for their utilities and elite, not their damage/weapon skills).

The issue have all longer-haired styles, but with this it’s particularly noticeable.
It could be fixed by manually letting the tall collar be hidden/less pronounced with longer hair.

Just why?
I clicked to confirm my edit and it just ate my rather long addition.
Why does it kick logged in players with such a regularity in general, and why in the midst of a session? It happens often that I want to go to the next thread page and bam, login prompt. Can’t the software somehow check that I was just active a second or so ago?
-Clarification that treb mastery 5 drains 10 supply per shot.
Really objectively bad design. I already miss actually draining a keep’s supplies by both parties undertaking actual, logical measures you employ in a siege (like the defenders being forced to repair their gate/walls or placing siege themselves), and not artificial, gamey and plain abusable mechanics like this.
I hope the WvW dev team realizes that this will make it an absolutely necessary approach for defended T3 keeps/SN/some towers, and since there will only be a few select spots from which you can hit the supply huts, new siege strategies will be much less elastic and individual, and more copy-paste.
Previously every commander had their own way for taking such a hard nut of a keep, but this all will be levelled by everyone adopting the same strategy, they’ll just treb the supply away.
Mark my words.
Also, new mastery skills = ew without account-wide wxp.
People don’t seem to quite get the implications behind this. If you make it account-wide, you can simply keep/farm the points you make on your main character(s) and then invest those with a twink who solely exists for a gimmick, like said Treb Mastery.
And if you do that, you can just ask to introduce fully refundable traits, since people would abuse it as a quasi-reset anyway.
So you’re really asking for something more far-reaching than account-wide WXP.

Feedback: AoE reflects. Can be traited to last longer and have shorter CD. Just amazing skill in WvW.
Well and I think a zerg that uses projectile skills is bad, because there’s not a single projectile skill in the game valuable to open-field combat.
Spamming clones for damage is a mind-numbing endeavour to me.
^^
Dude, its a video game. Of course 90% of the people on it are there for some mindless entertainment. We then revert to a thing known by the locals as “real life” and pursue our true passions.
I’m entertained when it’s not mindless.
Mindlessly clicking on NPCs till they die so you can collect your carrot sounds like work to me.
That’s called Zerging…
How about you stop being shy, get in your server’s voice channel and participate in an organized raid for just one evening.
(edited by Jamais vu.5284)
Well I think in the livestream they’ll introduce the new Devon Mastery trait line.
Tier 1: Devon removes Quaggan from WvW.
Tier 2 Unlocks 1 guaranteed Devon post per day.
Tier 3: Devon posts are -30% less vague.
Tier 4: Unlocks an additional Devon post per day.
Tier 5: Unlocks a spontaneous visitation of Devon’s desk at Bellevue, with the option to go drink a beer together after work.
It’s a video game.
It has been recently suggested often: That LS also appears in WvW.
For example, in this update there could have been a mobile Airship “keep”, control of which (naturally) gives the faction points like a regular keep would.
Just a short example of the top of my head. The gameplay should of course be PvP-centric.
But apparently ANet treats WvW as an utterly separate realm from the PVE development process, which should change (referring to event content).
+1
I dislike it very strongly.
One year later and people are still suggesting retraiting on the go. You should’ve thought this died around the two month mark together with suggesting dedicated healers.
This isn’t some convenience thing, this is a gameplay thing, mind you.
That being said, I hope they introduced saveable trait builds that you can retrain at the NPC.
And we desperately need separate WvW trait (and skill) sets. Do you really think WvW can develop into a serious PvP activity with this limitation, Devon et al? You’re just contributing to the ghettoization of the playerbase.
Horrible.
No one asked for this.
It really does hurt the eyes, this isn’t just some figure of speech. And I have an IPS monitor. Additionally it seems to be harder to distinguish from green on first glance.
Look, if you desperately need to make Blue brighter make it a less-neony way, I kittening beg you. Or make it a toggle. I know you hate options for the players, but still.
They are still too slow. The wind-up takes ages. The arrows fly to slow. They are clunky and sluggish and remind me of flatbows from GW1, only with flatbows you could actually could hit your target reliably on 10 meters.
They could hit like Kill Shot with every autoattack and still few (or atleast, not me) would play it.
I don’t know what ANet thought when they designed an autoattack that is exactly the same as another, Mesmer GS, only with a built-in high probability that it won’t hit.
Also skill 2 being plain vanilla DPS (with some vulnerability on top) is outdated design, an obvious relic that needs to be turned into a valuable combat asset and not something spammed on recharge.
(edited by Jamais vu.5284)
And I don’t mean that it gets “looked” at, I’m talking, active improvement, like more server capacity, fixing the software, stuff like that.
Our server is experiencing the worst lag in recent memory. That is, map-wide, not just in big ZvZ blobs or in Stonemist like usual.
It is especially concerning considering the upcoming culling update in PVE. How will this impact WvW?
