What is your build?
As far as I’m not mistaken air and fire hit for the same but air triggers more often – and you can also see when it procs – just that it’s a lightning strike.

Edit: Just saw the thread that air is bugged, so it doesn’t make a difference whether you take fire or air.

I think he meant that no matter how good you are, there’s a limit to what that weaponset can do for you. D/D just doesn’t have the utility of the other 2 listed.

Thats right. Skill floor =/= skill cap. Low skill floor means it doesn´t need much skill to be somehow successful. Be it killing people or whatever. High skill cap means you can reach a higher point of skill and not getting limited cause of the weaponset. D/P has a low skill floor. Its “easy” to get into stealth, survive to a certain point and kill people. But you also need a kitten lot knowledge about your possibilities, other classes, key-skills, etc to get the full potential. Having usefull weapon-skills allows that. D/D is much more difficult to play in longer fights (come on, one-shotting people isn´t difficult) and the lack of equal useful weapon-skills as D/P hinder it.

They still need to add a Sylvari face that’s similar to his as well. He’s too pretty to die.

There was a Trahearne during the LA event – he was a player and looked like Trahearne – and just stood around. I have a screenshot somewhere.
So it must be possible to create a character just like him ;)

The most recent shunning of WvW (excluding the Golem week) has been the changes to the network code to help (s/t)PvP lag that ANet admitted they knew it would give problems to WvW players, and still they went with it. Because ESPOOOOOOOOOORTSSSSSS. As a result, WvW map cap has been lowered.

I don’t remember this was it explicitly stated in that lag thread?

I tried to find the thread, but forum search is broken and google is not helping. I’m pretty sure it was mentioned by the guy that lowered the map cap.

Yes, they uploaded a patch that made pvp lags better but wvw lags worse. they didn’t know before though, they just found out when a ton of wvw players were complaining.
But, come to think of it, that was in April March…

Edit²: I had another quote in mind where he said they just discovered the wvw bug after they put the pvp patch in game. So it looks as if they knew/could’ve guessed before by that quote I linked.

I’m taking breaks from wvw when the lags and bugs are getting to bad, when things get imbalanced, when I need mats for wvw stuff.
So yeah my playtime is currently more pve than wvw, but if wvw was properly cared for I’d only play wvw.
And yes, I’m playing this game because of wvw.

Hi, i want to talk about GW2’s absence of any VIABLE tanking and healing play styles.

I really enjoy the role of a healer and a tanker but i feel that in GW2 as of now, i can’t create a build of any class that can solely do any of the two.

“Tank” in MMOs usually means a tanky character that is able to hold the aggro. There are a few bosses who will focus the one who hit them first for the entire fight but that might be a bug. So, even if you were able to create a pure tank build you wouldn’t be able to fullfill your chosen role as you won’t hold the aggro of the bosses/mobs as this game isn’t designed that way.
You can play with all thieves though and you will be the only one who’s being targeted.

Siege wars are broken (and not fun)

  • There’s only a handful of places in the whole map where it makes sense to place a ballista
  • Trebuchets were designed as the ultimate long-range attack weapon, they are used 90% of the time on short range behind the gates to destroy rams/alpha golems with no counter

These are the two things I don’t agree with – you can put ballis in plenty of places, in towers, on top of towers, in front of towers, on hills in front of towers or below towers.
Jerri, WC, Bravo and Langor are the only towers (on EB) where you can’t hit inner siege with an outer balli.
For trebs behind the door: You don’t have to counter them, go through the wall – a treb doesn’t help there. And that’s what I’m missing for a few months now, that people have to think in wvw.

Nah, a friend of mine was a fanboy of a wvw player and when he was at the verge of becoming better than him he was “That guy has fewer AP than x, he can’t be that good!!”

I have an idea:
the We care about wvw event:
1) disable first person view for wvw
2) readjust the radius of ACs
3) examine whether or not the damage siege does is justified, what means people have to defend objectives and if that still is enough in times of blobs
4) fix bugs
5) try to find the source of lags and fix them
6) spend some time in wvw as a regular player and learn what wvw is all about
7) balance classes/conditions/damage etc etc

That would be an event I’d like.

Then we can talk about zeppelins, golem rushes, tanks or whatever.

No, they saw me- the ele didn’t stomp me after he downed me, maybe out of pity. The others went berserk when I was “revealed”.

I’ve had this yesterday against a single ele and today against a group of engis and a ranger (who didn’t hit me before I used SR).
I’m stealthed and all of the sudden revealed without having the revealed debuff.
Anyone else? And is this a bug or is this just “oh we forgot to get you a debuff”?

It’s all fun and games till a ranger with Sic Em comes along with his gang of engies equipped with Lock On trait. In fact let’s make it extreme next level super ultra mega happy fun time when that ranger and those engies start placing Stealth Disruptor Traps everywhere. For realz.

Scratch the ranger, his gang of engis is far more effective.

Noobs have got their troubles to kill them, so they get a kill in every now and then. Also they bring a dolly health to ~ half, coupled with some mobs that dolly dies.
But most importantly, they move when an enemy comes along.

2 male human thieves who are as tall as they can be, a medium sized female sylvari, a tiny female asura.
I still like my main (one of the tall humans) best but the animations are clear with my sylvari as well. I don’t think I want to do competitive play with my asura, but hey she stomped someone in wvw when she was level 2, so everything goes.
But in the end you can always create and delete. If you need to see the animations from dual wielded weapons go to pvp and test it.
A friend of mine swears that tiny male humans are the best (he just moans that he’s so small when standing next to my main)

I wish that they’d change the formula a bit on the Water Field Blast Finishers so that people laying down the Water field could at least help with the healing too.

Maybe instead of
1320+0.2*Healing Power
We could do
1320 .1*Healing Power of Field Layer.1*Healing Power of Blaster

They already do – their waterfield heals and each blast heals – if they invest into healing power their waterfields and their blasts heal more.

I’m still not sure about this, though. If I drop a water field, I want it to matter more rather than less. After all, I could be doing something else — which is exactly what I would do if I thought there was little benefit to my field.

That is a bit complicated.
You can blast your own field, I think only 3 classes are able to make waterfields and all of them have access to blast.
But that field can be blasted by anyone, so if 5 people blast that field everybody should be full health again, whether or not the 5 blasters have enough healing power – what is rewarded is the awareness/teamplay.
If I were a wvw zerg ele I’d probably invest into healing power as my waterfields and blasts would benefit from it, but I wouldn’t go roaming with that build. Same for PvE – doing damage still is a bit more useful than to heal people, so I’d rather put as little as possible into heal and live with the healing not being the best it could be. If it were a big difference we would have a trinity again and I have got something against that.

You do know that the blast healing depends on the healing power of the person blasting it, yes?
So someone who invested into healing power already heals more than someone who didn’t.
That’s why I had some zealot trinkets – and yeah, it showed.

It would also affect thieves though and I don’t think mesmers/engis/rangers would care too much about their stealth being taken away as their class mechanics aren’t based on stealth.

People already assume stuff. That’s what a wiki is for though. Not to downplay the contributions vets have on a community but don’t overstate your presence. And I’m just going to state the game is far easier than it used to be so I doubt new players would drown without guidance. And a lot of new players don’t even want guidance and just learn most things on their own.

A wiki doesn’t tell you where to put siege, when to use what siege, how to move in a zerg and how to sneak attack.
But yeah, who needs vets?!

Not a particularly bad thing. In fact, I’d say that’s good. If this were the real world, losing knowledge is a huge set-back but for a game, allowing new players to experience a game similar to what the vets played way back when they first joined is certainly not a set-back as it’s not like the game is meant to progress like the real world.

It is bad for a game as well, you underestimate what veterans do. Not only in wvw but pve and pvp. Without them it would be a lot harder for new players, especially since the community in GW is really nice and you can be rather certain that no matter how stupid your question might be it will be answered (in a kind way) – and that by vets. Take that away and you’ll have a bunch of players who assume stuff. That would work if the wvw population would be wiped completely but if it’s just some servers it’s the death of them.

Ok, to throw in my opinion as a D/D thief: I like Death Blossom as it is, but I do agree that D/D is the weakest set thief has got- so if I had a say in changing the D/D skills, I’d vote for Dancing Dagger getting an interrupt.
And/or buff DB’s existing features.
And of course, give me the old SE back and/or significantly buff trickster and/or give us new tricks which wouldn’t catapult us out of SR which is the main source of condi removal – and I’d have to use both at the same time to not die from condis nowadays.

Right, thank you for all of your replies. It seems the most helpful way of getting them is the chest farm in SW as there is a chance you can get one in a bag (not sure what drop rate is) but at least I can be getting loot to help me towards my goal.

This is my best way forward as I don’t mind the chest farm. I’ll try and reply after 250 bags have been opened to let you see how viable an option it is.

Hopefully drop rate of a shard isn’t rarer than an exotic :-)

Try the Frostgorge Champfarm – got 3or 4 the other day in an hour.
BUT I agree with you – I hope anet will find a way to reward the boring node farmers and map completionists – how about 3 shards for each completed map for a start.

As a mesmer main I’m going to to request that Anet offer some sort of spa package for myself and other mesmer mains out there. We will be in desperate need of some RnR after all the portals, veils, mass invis., etc.

Actually I was on a server that didnt have 24 hour coverage, and I play in off times! You know what we loved how easy it was for our smaller groups to sneak away the keeps cause there were no white swords…

On another note, I agree there are some who love and some who dont love the events but reinvigorating and doing something different for a week is great.

We need change, open your mind be open to change the same old same old isnt drawing people in.

Yeah, if taking stuff with fewer people was new to you than you likely liked that a lot better than those who are used to run in small groups and who use white swords in their advantage. And I’m one of those who’s used to it – actually I learned to cap a camp in 75 seconds because of the white swords as that usually isn’t enough time for the enemies to react.

And I don’t think we need something new – I’d like to have wvw back to how it was 1,5 years ago, where there were safe spots for siege, when it was possible to destroy golems, when there was strategy, all that is left is karma train and that is because of the bugs and bad descisions and I think that’s pretty sad.

The no white swords “event” was a disaster for servers who don’t have a queue 24/7 – The people who loved it are pretty certainly used to run in a zerg, but there are a lot of other servers out there who have got no zerg, except in prime time. So whoever had more people won these matchups as the server with lesser people couldn’t “afford to have people sitting in towers”.

Getting new blood into wvw is great but at the same time vets are quitting left and right because they’re not taken seriously and because none of the issues wvw has is adressed/worked on. So what you’ll get is a bunch of newbs (no offense, I have been one myself for the longest time) and no one around to teach them.

The same time badges will be wiped from the market so every siege will become more expensive, even more so since the changes to Spirit Shards.

I actually don’t care whether or not there’s a golem event but it’s completely missing the mark.

So, before you quoted me in that thread I already said that I wasn’t a one shot thief (who did around 9-10k BS before the patch) but you are now claiming that I spoke to you first and later claimed something differently? Or what is it?
I have no idea how you got that number and you don’t show how you got them, so yeah you have a screenshot with high numbers – good job, but that doesn’t say a thing.
I actually think it’s kind of funny to be called a “noob” by someone who doesn’t know valk and zerker stats

(And Maugetarr, a BS against a light golem in pvp is something differently than a BS against a guard/warr in wvw and that was what we were talking about)

Neither. You’ve clearly never played signets before and you keep claiming that such damage numbers are not realistic when many people do this with relative ease.

You seriously do not know me aside from the fact I’ve made claims about being one of the hardest hitting thieves in GW2. You’ve never fought me. You’re making baseless claims about damage because you personally have not optimized your build for it on the sheer basis that your Shadow Arts build is hitting for substantially less damage than a pure damage signet stab such as mine.

Again, you’re playing CS/SA/Trickery with meta/defensive utilities and are missing 30% damage from Deadly Arts alone, and 16-21 stacks of might without signets, and 15% from Assassin’s Signet compounded on the rest.

Just the power bonuses alone from signets turn an 8k stab into about 10k, add the modifiers and you’re looking at 14.5k.

That’s under the assumption you’ve got somewhere along 2.3-2.6k power baseline, and aren’t further modifying your damage via Valkyrie’s superior backstab scaling in WvW to Berserker’s.

You yourself said that the screenshot you linked to prove that thieves were able to do more than 20k backstabs before the patch was only possible because someone buffed you – and then I wonder why link it with the claim that this was a thief’s doing? It basically is but it leads to rubbish class updates like we have now. So we can now all play like deceiver and the other oneshot spawn campers. Yay!
(And btw 14,5k is something different than the 17k you first claimed)

Well if you want me to know you – then act differently and make some videos in which people can see how you get the numbers – not just screenshots where half of it is left out.

So, I really hope all of you are getting my point.

Edit: Oh btw: Isn’t a valk backstab the same like a zerker’s backstab? If not, please enlighten me.

I didn’t say this in my post, but you do realize that the number I quoted was when doing a backstab that was under influence of the +20% damage Executioner trait. I can’t speak for the other d/d users here though.

None of you really said what the circumstances of your hit were, so I could claim anything myself and make thief seem op wheras I had this buff and that buff and another buff from an ally which I can’t generate myself.

I was running CS, DA, trickery myself. Yes, also with executioner – in fact i’m still running that build in pve.

Everybody knows Nutella, right? The “chocolate” spread. So the company who makes this has had (or still has, haven’t watched TV for more than 10 years) the worst commercials ever, but they thought it worked because people were buying their stuff. Truth is, their stuff is that good that even the commercials couldn’t destroy their sales.
Similar can be said about GW2 – awesome combat system, wvw is/was really great, most of PvE is great, but the decisions you guys make are insane. And this is one of them. Spend some time in wvw, not only tier 1, and learn what is important to wvw.
Hint: It’s not a golem rush, even though we won’t have class balancing issues if we’re all in a golem.

If you go DA/CS/Trix, backstabs are pretty insane10k -15k+ on average and no, I am not talking about stabbing upscaled naked ele running around wvw. With buffs from allies it’s even more, I hit tower lord for 24k lol. The dmg is there, just spec for it.

Do you do 17k damage on heavies in wvw ?
With one hit that is.
(I’m playing this game too =))

Why the disbelief? I have personally backstabbed heavy armor zerkers for over 15k. I’m sure with seaweed salad, more signet might stacks, etc. that I could go even higher.

The disbelief is because I know Deceiver.
And my highest backstab on a guard was 10k so far – I don’t think 17 would’ve been possible without any help from someone else.

We’ve had free transfers in the past, that was why HoD steamrolled Bronze Tier NA during spring tournament last year as they have been the highest ranked server with free transfers. That was a really bad idea actually as everybody and their mother went to HoD. I guess it’s a bit more complicated than just handing out free transfers as your server really would have no chance afterwards. I get your point though but to me having fun in game was more important than gold, so I transfered 3 times – and would do it again if wvw wasn’t broken right now anyway.
