Still doing 17k on heavies in WvW. I have no idea where you’re deriving your figures from, but that’s definitely not accurate. I’m able to reach 12-13k in sPvP, even, on medium armor targets.

With buffs from his allies and if the target isn’t wearing armor- just to set things straight.

Just to clear up some misinformation here.

Those recipes were only available during the first opening of the pavillion from the emmisaries during the Queens jubilee. When the pavillion came back last year during the festival of the 4 winds, those emmisaries were gone (because it wasnt the queens jubilee).

My thief has got the recipe for Sigil of Malice and I created him in december 2013 – 4 months after the Queen’s jubilee.
I’m going to research where he got it from.

No, Scarlets secret stash was only available during clockwork chaos.
But as those recipes were account bound, you maybe bought the recipe during the jubilee, stored it and then used it on your thief 4 months later.

I didn’t but I have been around when the marionette event happened where one had access to scarlets stash =)

Edit: I’m really sure I’ve gotten that recipe later than Queens Jubilee as back then I had only one character who got all the recipes I found. Doing that doesn’t make sense, I know but he learned 3 crafts back then which also didn’t make any sense and he’s got every recipe I ever got. I didn’t buy anything as I didn’t know there was a vendor. (I started to play during Queen’s Jubilee).

I’m not stealthed when using shadow refuge – happened twice within half an hour – not revealed, not knocked out of SR, just randomly visible.

Edit: should’ve added that that was in Eternal Battlegrounds.

Never said they should buff PVE NPC’s.

I said they should buff WvW NPC’s so that a tower cannot be solo capped (and a keep cannot be duo capped)

I mean it is WvW after all, anything bigger then a camp should require some allies (and in the case of a keep a good 6+ people at the very least)

I meant that wvw mobs are harder than any other mobs in this game already.
But I think it should be possible for a skilled player to solo a tower – I often did better alone than with someonw probably new to wvw. So even for 2 players caping a tower can be quite difficult now/before the patch.
We’re often making a difference in our server’s “off-time” with only 3 people – would be bad if we weren’t able to do that anymore.

As the title says maybe it’s time to buff some NPC’s.

In the last 2 weeks I have seen multiple towers taken by single solo players.

I have also seen entire keeps captured by groups of 3 & in many cases 2 people.

So it may be time given the rate at which players are dealing damage to slightly increase the number of guard spawns or increase their health.

I’m soloing towers for 1,5 years now. That is nothing new – maybe wait until anet patches this and that before you think npcs should be buffed?
Oh and when all npcs were nerfed in PvE following the april ‘14th patch they forgot about the wvw npcs so they’re harder than any usual mob in game (still are).

You can only change your skills underwater if you’re, like on land, out of combat.
Maybe that was your problem, I can see all elites when I’m underwater.

On the other hand, while I could conceive of slapping 1 million yaks before I die, how the heck is someone going to defend SM castle 500,000 times? I only have 426 of those.

I have nearly twice as many defenses (760) than captures (420).

In the end it doesn’t really matter, I guess – these achievements are a running gag and thankfully the folks who are into wvw can take a joke ;)

I’m on Gunnars too – and to be honest, you guys always had troubles to use siege.
Anet didn’t really help with the camera changes so defending is pretty useless. That’s why I personally don’t care anymore. If I’m in a tower that’s attacked I build an AC/Balli and hope for the best – I don’t care about refreshing it anymore as I’m “the only one” anyway and as every potato with an outside AC can destroy everything inside the tower.
On top of that the patch destroyed a lot of the “balance” which was wonky in wvw anyway, that’s another reason I quit for now.
So, don’t blame the server as Gunnar’s is the second best server I’ve been to (the best is dead – but I learned how to wvw from that guys).

Do you mind tell me why do you think having 4s revealed in wvw is bad? Real PvPers have been using this formula for a very long time now, and they don’t cry as much as those pve thieves. Actually I don’t give a kitten about it realy. I was just pointing out that that option was even missing from the poll

Because wvw is a bit more brutal than pvp – so stealth was the way to survive.

Hey I never said it can’t be balanced, I said the idea of balancing around individuals and making group compositions based on that is fun. Usually this makes a natural balance of different group compositions, which can be tougher to tweak. And you say you disagree but I think you misunderstand me? I want it the same in all game modes as well and I’m pretty sure that’s what you are saying. So, uhm……what?

I’m not so sure if balancing around group compositions is the way to go, but maybe there’s is no other option – I don’t know. And yeah it sounded as if you were more than ok with wvw beingimbalanced, that was why I complained

Wvw has been closed to being balanced before the patch – so don’t tell me it isn’t possible – and to be fair it should be intended for the sake of all game modes as if you make classes unbalanced some would be favoured when it comes to group play – and since we have no trinity in which a healer or tank would be needed you want classes to be equally strong.
And I disagree, I want the same in all 3 modes as switching from pve to wvw to pvp would be pretty confusing – after all I don’t play pvp because I can’t get used to the 4 s reveal and if they’d implement a system where all 3 game modes are separated, I’d have to chose to play only one.

maybe you need to sort out your build. my pals d/d thief does stupid damage and he’s constantly getting angry whispers.

Doing stupid damage is a “one shot”, so themoment your opponent defends himself, you’re dead – and I don’t think that was the playstyle the OP was looking for.

They think it’s to confusing for people if their skill works slightly different or does a different bit of damage.
It’s shocking how utterly incompetent and moronic anet thinks players are. The nanny-developer.

I disagree – my thief worked differently in pvp than in wvw so trying to figure out a build in pvp (for wvw) was useless, also the balance is based on pvp but there’s still wvw which is handeled as if it were pve.
Even if I know that pvp works differently than pve it’s very hard to adapt the muscle memory.
So yeah they might change it as this game does everything pve players want – but I seriously hope they don’t.

Just as annexample from today. We were attacking from north gate on YB. I could see 9 ACs over the wall. After we broke throw I cleared outer wall down to south gate and there were 6-7 more ACs. Then breaking inner gate there were 6 ACs in fron of lord’s room entrance (3 on each side). Thats not counting trebs :o

You complain about siege they have in their keep?
“How dare they to defend!!!”

But I’m in with the AC in front of enemy objective’s complaint, though I’mfairly sure that the first camera view thing was what made that possible -and to be honest; it has been bad even before that.

I did not complain, I was merely stating that iron man (can take a beating) is inherently tougher than spiderman (can’t), to use a analogy.

I wasn’t referring to you with myfirst post in this thread- as others have stated – if you know how to play GW2 you don’t need to take a beating.

Edit: And I am glad you are often the last person standing, but that does not disregard that hitting a cement block would do less damage than hitting say a balsa wood plank.

Okay, those who want the “zerker meta to be gone” are quite likely wearing soldier’s or whatever tanky gear and feel inferior. So they claim that those playing in zerker gear are brainless and can do so because there’s no AI.
So; if the AI gets raised – who’s the first to die?
Not the zerkers.

I’m sorry but this makes no sense. If you built to be tough you do not feel inferior, although it does take a bit longer to kill things. And generally if you built to be tanky you don’t go down as easily as those that wear full zerk. So your assumption of the zerker being the last man standing is illogical at it’s core. I am not saying that there are not exceptions, but saying this as fact is just wrong.

You don’t – ok – why then complain about those who wear a different gear? There has to be a reason for that?
You do as you don’t know how to play – sorry but it’s true – if you knew you’d go full glass. So if the mobs became harder those who need tanky gear right now wouldn’t stand a chance.
I’m aware that there’s a lotof people out there who wear zerker’s although they shouldn’t, but I somehow guess that’s still a minority.

(And btw I’m quite often the last (wo)man standing – in full zerkers)

Ok, here’s the test:
Level 56 thief; Gear is something from 41? blue to 51 yellow, valk/zerker mix, no runes. Trinkets neglectable.
And level 80 thief, full ascended valk armor, rest zerker
Both are fighting without food/utility.
ETA: Both are using D/D.

Victim of choice: A level 23 Devourer in Diessa Plateau:
Level 56 thief: ~7 hits
Level 80 thief: 1 hit.

Level 52 Ember in Iron Marches:
Level 80 Thief: 3 hits
Level 56 Thief: ~8-10 hits

Yesterday I was doing map completion in Kessex Hills (lvl 40, gear from lvl 10 -35 green) and someone said in say chat:
x: “You level 80?”
I didn’t know I was meant, so I carried on with map completion – the person repeated their question via whisper.
me: “No, I’m level 40”
x: “That’s in this area basically as good as being 80”
So I was obviously not allowed to do map completion as my level was too high. And my gear was too good

Anyway, if it affects Dungeons that can be nasty, I haven’t really tried them after the patch and if that is the case anet should work on that but I can’t say that PvE is now too hard for me – and to be honest; I hardly feel any difference. I like it better a bit more challenging as I have more game by that. And as far as I can remember it has been a lot tougher than now before April 15th 2014.

So: I don’t know how you come to the conclusion that higher levels are worse in lower level areas than level appropriate characters – I doubt that.

They did, over and over – possibly the reason why it got nerfed with the patch – the line is pretty broken now.

I’m sorry i’m not here to offend anyone but why on earth would you have more than 3-4 characters? Seems like a HUUGE waste of time… i mean i play since game launch and have 2 characters (warrior and mesmer). Seems like you have too much time i guess. No hate intended

That would be boring to me.

I have one of each class to learn their mechanics to be able to kill them in wvw.
I have 4 thieves because every other class annoys me.
I have one of each race for AP – and I like every race except norn.

And leveling can be fun.

Edit: And it doesn’t take too much time t get a character to 80 – learning how to play them takes a bit though – and I can’t play most of my classes – it’s ok for pve but not pvp/wvw)

The bug has been patched – we now clear condis the moment we enter stealth.
That being said – trickery and SA with our tricks doesn’t really work out and I’m not so sure if that change is justified – I’d have to look into other classes condi clears but I’m pretty sure they don’t have to go that lengths to clear condis as I have to take 2 defensive traitlines to get rid of them.

Some people called the changes to SE a buff – I don’t.
Make trickery/trickster and all tricks work with SE, or give us a bigger health pool – for now it doesn’t really work out – and I’d like to have a counter to fear, which I formerly had. So yeah, easiest way would be to revert the change.

Except, unlike you I’m assuming, I can actually turn empy frags into useful junk with the Star. Just like I can blood dust and Mawdrey. Still tossing out dragonite because I havent gotten Princess yet.

Play some wvw not only will you have more than enough fragments then but also use for SS.

No, the whole SS system isn’t fine. On the one hand anet tries to get us into lower level areas again, on the other hand SS in PvE are only obtainable by killing mobs in lvl 80 areas (exception are mobs that formerly gave out scrolls of knowledge).
So yeah, I’m all for level 80s getting as many spirit shards as possible. There’s no reason they shouldn’t.

The tools offered in the PvE maps appear to be tied to the level of the char. So a very low level char sees no tools to buy, a slightly higher level char sees copper and your char, being level 35, sees steel and darksteel. If you want to buy tools not tied to your level you’ll need to go to a merchant in a city.

Ok – that seems to be the explanation.
I usually go to wvw and buy from my profession trainer.

To Ill:
When I know I’ll be in low level areas for quite a while; I also know that I’ll gather more than 100 of each – so buying copper or whatever gathering tools works for me.
So it would be great if I were still able to buy copper tools in low level areas even though my level is higher – but if most people have serious problems with that I’ll just stop by wvw to buy my stuff, like I’m doing now.

If I had to guess, I’d say the OP’s real complaint is the limitations to theory-crafting inherent to reducing options. Completely changing play style seems a stretch since play style is more determined by weapon choices than anything else, and that has not changed.

Depends – P/P thief has no supportive traits anymore – so using them would be a sub optimal choice, SA has been nerfed which hurts D/D thieves, so running D/D is a bad choice, acrobatics has changed so maybe running S/D (not my weaponset) is a bad choice. With our only condi cleanse having been nerfed as well, thieves have indeed to switch to D/P and ports to survive in Wvw – PvE doesn’t matter, never did. So if you’re using all your classes in PvE alone you won’t really notice a change.

I only know about thieves – maybe it’s similar to some other classes who have to bin certain weaponsets (for wvw) as well.

Thief hasn’t been OP – just scrubs thought it was and the patch destroyed some weaponsets of thief and that is what we’re complaining about.

I’m saying the over the top QQ like “OMG THIEF IS DEAD!!11!!1!1,” such as this thread, is uncalled for. Just play, learn from your mistakes/experiences, read over the changes, and adapt to them. If you don’t want to run d/p, theorycraft and practice new/unique builds thoroughly before you write them off. This really isn’t that bad of a patch. It’s fine to ask for some changes concerning skills/abilities/etc, but to just throw your arms up in the air and scream (like the OP did) is just foolish.

Play thief for a bit longer maybe?
It’s hard to take advise from someone new to the class.

DS is perfect for its purpose, it doesn’t need a change – you just need to learn how to use it or use another elite – basilisk venom is really good as well and even got buffed with the patch as far as I have seen it – I rarely use it.

In any situation I could use it, i can use smoke screen instead. This allows me to keep attacking, gain stealth, and blind opponents in close combat. It’s on a 30 second CD as well. I used to use daggerstorm a lot, but we have utilities that are just as useful that can be used more often. The objective is to make the elite more flexible.

It is, when you are used to fight in a zerg – smokescreen only helps if you are in a coordinated fight with people who know blast finisher in that situation – not every elite/skill has to fit anybody in no matter what situation – if daggerstorm is changed you further push me into being a single roamer D/P thief – and I have something against that.

It would still be long enough to absorb a full rapid fire and a few auto attacks. Additionally, it would allow you to attack regularly from it meaning it would be the opponent’s damage plus your own damage going out. It would be more useful against groups as well since they often are not all ranged, you would be protected from that as well. You would evade non-projectile attacks as well such as mesmer great sword. It would be quite a bit more useful and be able to be used more often as well.

Edit: Also, with this change you wouldn’t be the prime target for people to steal against. Whenever I see a Thief in DS, I steal and backstab because the likelihood of them dodging is greatly reduced. This strips the stability, stopping the DS anyway. The proposed change would make DS more useful against a wider variety of opponents.

I don’t want to absorb, I want to refelct all of projectiles which are thrown at me – if it does me more harm than good I can already interrupt that skill.

I don’t use my DS against power thieves. There are sacrifices to each elite.

It would keep it’s reflect though and be traitable down to 60 seconds. It would still give out bleeds, and it would evade stuff in close combat. This would be especially helpful if the opponent was AoE centric (staff ele, staff necro, engi) that often still hit with the splash damage. In addition, it could no longer be corrupted. In terms of trade off for the flying daggers, whenever you evade or reflect an attack, you cause a bleed. Additionally, you can keep attacking with your equipped weapon. The whirl finisher would remain. Functionally speaking, it would be like mesmer’s traited distortion shatter in terms of power, but it would also punish people who keep attacking you.

It’s used against enemy groups mostly – by nerfing it you would take that away. Also the duration usually is long enough that a ranger kills himself with it – I really want it to stay like it is.

Edit: And since it’s a combo finisher you already can apply conditions to it.
Edit²: So all who attack you with projectiles are already punished – by reducing the duration that would be nerfed significantly.

I have broken out of fear many times, but not vs tequatl so much, so maybe this is bugged. However, I will try this next time I fight teq and let you know if I fail to break it with a stun breaker.

Ok – maybe it does work with trickster/withdraw – but I’m pretty sure I tried last time I fought him and it didn’t work – not doing much since the patch anyway. Except map completion. But I will get myself to fight teq a few more times to try it as well.

Anyway; I have been to wvw and was running DA,CS and trickery at first – and there’s no way I can survive all these conditions with trickery. Then I went SA and still had a lot of troubles to survive – I don’t think the nerf was justified – as it is our defensive line but we can’t even survive with it – so basically I really can use the whole trickery line and just hope I’ll kill my enemy before the condis eat me up.

(I’m running D/D – maybe at some point I’ll try D/P – although I hate that weaponset)
