Spirit Rangers are in a good place. They are very… very easy to deal with if you know how to deal with them.
I said like 2 months ago, mesmers condition removal was really bad.. and everyone answered I was crazy because of null field, traits and mantras (?). And this was an issue even before necro’s buff, engineers damage was (and still is) flying over the radar.
The condition removal isn’t lacking. It’s that it doesn’t fit in with what’s perceived to be the best build (shatter).
And thats why my teams mesmer doesnt play shatter. I think that too many people forget that support is a role you can play for a team. Oh well, their loss.
Tell me a support role that a Mesmer can play and I will tell you a better alternative for that same role. If there is a better option, and you are in a competitive team… why select a sub-optimal choice?
Mesmer are absurdly op.
Still very good and very viable.
Virtually invincible.
You’re either a new and inexperienced player or a troll. My gut feeling is telling me to lean more towards the latter.
Personally, I feel like Mesmers are still viable.
The problem is people get to cushy playing a certain playstyle. When it’s disrupted, they would rather cry foul and switch classes than sit down and work it out.
IDK, instant gratification is strong in this community.
Already tried full condition, sort of condition-bunker, phantasm (Already useless and then nerfed)…even a troll confusion spam build with glamour skills and lots of cond removal…nothing worked, at least not good enough to get a spot into a good team, whatever you can try outside shatter someone can do it better than mesmer..side point is spirit ranger’s territory, condition dmg is necro’s, bunker is guardian’s, assaulter is bomb engi’s with s/d-d/p thief and valkyrie ele roaming…nothing else to do with mesmer, classic spot was side point’s defender…vs bomb engi or a necro spamming fear, conditions and kitten everywhere? Not possible…at all..if you spec for surviving @ side you’re gonna deal no dmg at all, so why not getting a spirit ranger that is almost unkillable 1vs1 with a decent dmg too? Mesmer is not dead, you can still kill stuff in hotzerg, it’s simply out from tpvp meta cause in a point control game you can’t go on point without being melted by condition spam all over the place…if xeph and helseth already rerolled there must be a reason..
The question I have to ask is, does viable now mean being the best at a position/job on a team? If that’s the case, we’re always going to be addressing a profession as unviable as a team only has 5 spots to fill with 8 professions to fill them.
’
Not necessarily “best”, but at least comparable. If in all your roles, another profession is just flat out better at it… in the world of competitive esports, minmaxing is key… you will get pushed out of the meta.
You either have to excel or compete with a viable niche role. That niche has to create a reasonable impact. Something that makes your profession “worth taking”.
Hi, I’m Pikachoops, and I approve of the current state of mesmers.
So you like that a profession is not viable in competitive play?
think he means this drama:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Tournament-Organization-improvments/first#post2507267
That is the drama indeed.
I don’t agree with changing anything. Asura’s size is a non issue to decent players. I have never had a problem dealing with Asura. Ever.
On topic, rivalry is cool as long as it doesn’t get out of hand.
I disagree. I think it’s even better when it gets out of hand.
There is nothing people fancy more than hostility shared between good players. Having said that, it doesn’t matter what sport it is, or on what level; a rivalry infuses “oomph” into the game. This is exactly what competing is all about, and what Guild Wars 2 eSports was missing.
Some rivalries are small but others are literally larger than life and transcend beyond the genre. Those are the ones that fans love the most. These rivalries involve more than just superiority, but clutch factor, grit and perseverance as well. These are the ones that we all know regardless of age or even knowledge of the game in general.
Rivalries are a logical extension of any “eSport”. When you train for days to become the best at a particular event, you are bound to run into opposition. That opposition can take many forms.
It may be an ill-timed decision, bad leadership or horrible strategy. But many times that opposition has a name and a face. It is the group of players standing on the other side of the map planning to ruin your best efforts.
When you take that kind of opposition and drop it into a microcosm of various circumstances, a rivalry is born. They can spring up just about anywhere.
That type of anger is placed in a special subsection of any good “eSport”. Tournaments are cool and all, but the “rivalry match” is circled on the calendar with black ink.
You don’t miss these things for anything in the world.
Rivalries are what make “eSports” transcend from mediocre to great. That is what will fill up the streams to capacity. People want to see an epic battle of two teams who hate each other.
People think they want good sportsmanship and smiles and hugs after a match… not true. I for one welcome the angst between Team Paradigm and Car Crash. I hope to see more rivalries surface in the future.
Trust me on this, bitter rivalries in eSports is a very good thing for this game.
(edited by Jasher.6580)
Contrary to popular belief, all this quarreling is really good for the game. Having a bitter rivalry between two good teams actually encourages the growth of eSPORTS. People may not want to accept this truth, but this kind of “drama” is actually very good for the genre.
Keep it up.

I’ve never had a problem with Asura. You people are strange.
Why wouldn’t you just use a build calculator?
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=
No Dhum sucks but terror is still good, try my build 10/30/0/0/30
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Is-my-Necromancer-the-cause-of-unbalance/first#post2499420
Why wouldn’t you just use a build calculator?
Does this build still work after the nerfs?
Or they could make it gems convert something soulbound to account bound.
So I was thinking, what if we had the ability to use gems to un-soulbind an item. I would love that option.
What do you guys think? I hope the dev’s take this into consideration.
Something of interest is to note that everyone here whos going “Mesmer is not viable” actually changes to “this is the problem with shatter mesmers” within a post or 2, my mesmer works just fine in tpvp and I’m soloqueuing, mayhap you’re doing something wrong?
That’s the problem. You’re solo queuing. We are talking about the meta. Competitive play. High rank and High level gameplay. You wouldn’t be feeling the effects of the issue at hand.
No, it’s percentile, eg. if your percentile is 90% that means you’re better than 90% of the players.
You get on the leaderboard by getting in the top 1000, which is I guess around 98% on EU.
Why are EU gamers always better than US in pretty much every game?
LOL scrub
Seriously?
People being handed “popular” or “meta” builds… the community will no longer be like… “Hey, I’m running Jumper’s Sword/Dagger build….” instead it will be… “Who’s Jumper?” or “Team Paradigm”
Now I know it wont be the case for everyone… of course not… I’m not trying to generalize. But you can’t deny the fact that it will deter some potential “fans” since it lessens the need to research and ask around.
I don’t think people are getting the point. Doing this would only facilitate the inevitability of people copy/pasting “meta” builds.
Nevertheless, what this also does is decrease the number of people visiting these third party sites/blogs/streams… which will have a significant and negative impact on the community and pioneers.

There needs to be a demand of players seeking information to encourage the growth of a gaming community. It adds depth. Anything that takes away from that journey can only harm the game.
why
Because it would discourage experimentation, learning and the thrill of personal discovery.
in what way are you not just making this up
If new people come into the game and they have set templates to choose from… when they play with it and they see that, “Oh this works.”… There is zero reason for them to read up on trait descriptions… browse community forums and keep abreast on the findings of subject matter experts.
It takes away from community building and it gives players one less reason to delve into the intricacies of the individual professions.
why
Because it would discourage experimentation, learning and the thrill of personal discovery.
I don’t agree with this idea at all. I think it’s a terrible idea.
Lol wat. /15chars
Do people really not know, or am I being trolled? Serious question here… So many people in this thread think I’m being ridiculous apparently.
Someone just sent me this little gem of a quote from Xeph. I had no idea he even said this.
Also in high level tournament play, mesmer is almost extinct, with almost no teams running mesmers anymore.
I am currently talking about the most pressing matters; and sadly mesmer isn’t one of them, if mesmers needed nerfing trust me, I would be the first person calling for it, but at the moment they are almost not viable.
Maybe you wont take my word for it since I’m a nobody. But what about Xeph?
So after reading some of these posts, I’ve come to realize that a lot of people are genuinely unaware of Mesmer’s viability (or lack thereof) in high ranked games.
(edited by Jasher.6580)
With the shift in the meta, having a Mesmer on your team flat out gimps you in competitive play. How can we fix this?
Just curious…
Let’s make sure this isn’t swept under the carpet. I would love to have developer acknowledgment on this issue.
Is the only counter to take out all the spirits first?
Im not here to cry, but this build does seem extremely unbalanced considering the last 4 tpvp teams ive faced have all been premades and they have all had a spirit ranger build, sometimes multiple.
Im just looking for a solution, because that builds just the most face roll ive ever faced, I have trouble with some builds, which I accept is generally because Im just not good enough, need to l2p, or am just countered well by it, but ive played a fair amount of tpvp and this just seems ridiculous.
Any input would be very helpful,
Thank You.
Which profession do you play? Spirit Rangers aren’t that strong. They are good, but “the most face roll you’ve ever faced” just seems odd.
Like recently, it was Necros. Now that has quieted down a bit, because people have learned to adapt a bit to the condition meta
Don’t get it twisted. Necromancers are still very overpowered.
It could be, they just need to tone down the laser… a lot.
i know there have been a lot of changes rencetly.. hope you don’t mind me asking.. what is the meta exactly? i’ll go look around too now : ))
i played Guardian in s/tPvP quite a bit before the big balance patch. what did you play as a viable DPS Guard before the patch? and has it not been performing lately?
Standard meditations build. Current meta, is heavy condi. Even with the meditation cleanses. I just melt like butter.
Note: This is in regards to competitive sPvP NOT WvW or PvE.

Has anyone found any viable and competitive DPS Guardian builds in sPvP since the meta has flipped?
I spent prior hours fiddling around with builds of my own… alas to no avail. I’m looking for fresh suggestions and data which wont be contaminated with my own theories and failed devices.
I would really appreciate some feedback with some solid theorycrafting behind it.
Here is a calculator:

I WANT competitive DPS Guardian DO IT FOR ME THERE http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-7E
NOW!well… use brain… and stuff…
If you don’t want to provide feedback or contribute to the thread, then that’s fine. Nevertheless, your comment was unnecessary, and brought nothing to the discussion other than hostility and tactlessness.
I wouldn’t be asking for feedback if hadn’t spent prior hours fiddling around with builds of my own… alas to no avail. I’m looking for fresh suggestions and data which wont be contaminated with my own theories and failed devices.

It took me forever to get into a tournament.
When I finally got into one and won, I didn’t receive a chest reward. I’m wondering if anyone else is having this issue?

lol… you know what’s going to happen? Now that more people will be playing Shatter… these baddies are going to get beat even worse than when they were playing against Phantasm builds… then they are going to run to the forums and QQ about Shatter being an OP 1v1 AND team fighting spec.
Please don’t do it. You cried hard and got lolPhantasmlol nerfed. Please be satisfied and leave Shatter alone.
Shatter spec lose against better players…not like phantasm build where you spamm illusion with 4k+ HP each critting for 8k+…-_-
Shatter spec loses against better players… Phantasm builds lose against mediocre players who don’t suffer from Down syndrome.
Fact: I could beat any Phantasm Mesmer on a Thief, Necro, Bunker Engineer or Sword/Shield, Scepter/Focus DPS Guardian. I am utterly confused when people say they had a hard time beating a phantasm Mesmer 1v1.

lol… they nerfed Phantasm Mesmers because bad players were crying about them. This change will completely destroy the spec. lol… Well, no hair off my nose, Shatter is the stronger spec anyway. lol. Ah… this is funny.
Confirmed. It needs to be reworked.
This is yolo teamThought the name is SoloQueWithFourFriendU are not mistaken Arc??
He has to be mistaken… because we’re really bad right? -_-
I’m in game, I added you to my friend list. You’re not online. I’m a dancer.
There is no OP/Noob friendly spec for Necromancers. If you are in NA, and want to learn Necro, send me a message ingame.
I didn’t say that they had a spec which was OP/Noob… I was asking… of all the competitive/viable specs that they have… which is the most OP/Noob friendly i.e. Easiest to grasp but still viable and competitive.
Hi there, I’m very new to Necromancers. Which viable and competitive spec would you say is the most op/noob friendly spec for Necromancers? If you could link a build with runes and sigils that would be awesome forces.
Thanks again.

You don’t want to be the same level as him,you are better than him, so don’t repeat what he did
Do you really know how this “feud” started between our guilds? To really ask is to open the door to the whirlwind. The answer may annihilate the question and the questioner.
Why would a random stranger started trolling you? It seems almost absurd that one would do so… the answer could be that I am a lunatic… perhaps… perhaps… perhaps…
If you have never considered the possibility that the people from your camp were wrong… if you have never questioned the history you know of the matter and the source… and if you have no wish to do so… then you are likely ignorant.
He is better than me? Pfft…
I don’t really care whether u are bad or my camp wrong, whatever the case but I disagree to what you did on my friend’s post, it is wrong, wrong and completely wrong no matter how you put it. You was the cause of my friend’s action, so I am here to stop Decrypt repeat your mistake. By him, I did not mean the team since they are not deserved it but you. So I don’t see why it would fuled the battle bw two team. I use the word “him”, not “them”, aiming one person, not the whole team. Think before you accuse other being ignorant, reflect yourself first pls.
To Op: Sorry for derail your recruit thread. My last post in here and all the best to your team and your recruit.
When we think a thing, the thing we think is not the thing we think we think, but only the thing we think we think we think. To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true.
I know you believe you understand what I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. You think you know everything until you sit in this chair. You know nothing until you sit in this chair. You don’t have a clue.
Swimming is a confusing sport, because sometimes you do it for fun, and other times you do it to not die. And when I’m swimming, sometimes I’m not sure which one it is.
Understand?
