So how do you guys feel about a Gem Store item called a Transmutation Sapphire which would flip an item to an Account Bound state with a twist?

The idea came to me because I am on the verge of switching main characters. And thought… man… I would really like to transfer these items to my new main:

Chop-It-All Logging Axe
Molten Alliance Mining Pick
Consortium Harvesting Sickle

How it would work is that the item would become Account Bound after activating the Sapphire.

As soon as you equip it on a character again, a timer starts ticking down (say 15 mins).

After the duration of the timer expires, the item becomes soulbound to the new character.

I think it would be a great income generator for ArenaNet as well.

What are your thoughts?

I remember the quickness meta quite well. It promoted one shot builds. Pistol Whip, Hundred blades etc. etc. It was absolutely terrible.

Quickness seems like it was phased-out.

The Canon is too strong.

The map places too much emphasis on controlling the canon, and that small area is too advantageous to certain specs. That is the crux of the matter.

A lot of top players. Top 50 Team Arena. Do NOT play Asura and they do just fine.

IIRC, wasn’t the anniversary tournament entirely (or almost entirely) Asura and Minimum Size Human Females? That says something.

Okay, then why not change the topic to Nobody plays anything but Asura and minimum size female humans? Also… if you look at the top 500 ACTIVE players I can name quite a few of them who play Charr, Humans, Sylvari and Norns.

Super Squad, not everyone played Asura, Team Paradigm/Curse… not everyone plays Asura.

If it really is about min/maxing, these teams should technically be playing ONLY Asura. They don’t. And the ones who don’t aren’t castigated, and they do just fine.

The danger to making more builds viable will be a hybrid beast might emerge using the best of all those builds and a new fotm is created. Hence, making the other builds enviable again lol

That should be the concern of the players though. The balance team should be on issues like that.

I would love to get some insight from someone on the development team.

First of all, I want the team to know that their hard work and dedication to the game are truly appreciated.

I have one quick question though…

In the leaked balance patch notes from Jonathan-wonathan Sharp-warpy, it was highlighted that the Devs were looking to provide more builds for all classes across all game types?

Have you guys decided how the team was planning on making Guardian damage builds viable… more specifically in competitive high end tPvP?

“Big Jonny The Great One” mentioned that they were planning to increase the power of many of the Guardian support skills…

Will this tie into bolstering their damage specs?

Again, keep up the good work, and looking forward to hearing from you soon.

OP, I agree with you. A good game should be simple, not complex. Look at chess, is very simple to play, yet very deep. I don’t think the number of buttons available determine the “skill of the class”, sometimes, with less options to choose from, you have a harder time against your opponents, and you have to use your creativity to overcome those obstacles. Thats why I like simple classes, because the complexity of the game to me, is offered by terrain, enemies, resource managing, etc. If I wanted to play a piano, I have one downstairs.

I laughed at the piano comment. lol. Yes, some people enjoy the “John kittening Madden” playstyles which is fine… but begging to nerf and over-complicate the simpler specs is selfish and stupid.

I remember how people in WoW loved playing Cat DPS… I loved the concept of the class but I hated the rotation…

There would be no problem for both spec, simplicity and complexity, co-exist in the game IF AND ONLY IF, people play simple spec will NEVER EVER can win another people play in complex spec. Right now, as I see it, people play simple spec can easily out-do people play with complex spec which is stupid.

That doesn’t make sense. If I enter a game with a complex spec, I shouldn’t instantly win because of my build loadout. I should win, however, if I take an incredibly complex spec that is very difficult to play perfectly, and then play it perfectly against a very simple spec. That is the point of risk-reward, higher risk gives higher reward only if you are successful.

This guy hits the hail on the head, and I already see it in action. Who can beat Teldo when he is playing his Engineer? Seriously… who?

Jasher, Phantasm mesmers were/are very easy to play.

Very easy to play by who’s standards? Yours? Your friends? The “Pro’s”? The forums?

Measuring performance and the level of effort it takes to accomplish something effectively isn’t something you can quantify that easily.

I’ve played against many many Phantasm Mesmer’s who I destroyed… and this was before the nerf when they were supposedly “op”… LoS and dodging the telegraphed and delayed responses from the Phantasms wasn’t a very difficult task… the auto-attack from the Mesmer was pitiful at best…

I digress.

If Phantasm Mesmer’s were so easy… why were so many that I faced so bad at it?

Everything about this game is easy. It’s honestly one of the most simplistic games I’ve ever played. So when a build is easy, even in terms of this game, yet is one of if not the strongest available, obviously people aren’t going to like it.

Why does it matter? Why is it funny?

A lot of you guys suffer from expectation bias. You believe, certify and speak on things based on how you feel other players should “reasonably” adjust and grasp mechanics within the game.

You then disbelieve, discard, or downgrade the corresponding weightings for the data that appear to conflict with those expectations.

This phenomenon and the play of it on the human psyche is a recurring theme and one that leads to very inefficient and under performing programs, where people are left either defending poor results or seeking yet another magic answer to all their problems.

So we played some ranked team q and one of our members went down without losing and the player who passed him didn´t play for a couple of weeks.

I’m seeing all these threads popping up everywhere on how “easy” or how “boring” some professions/specs are in competitive tournaments.

Perception is everything. What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on what sort of person you are. I personally know top 1000 players who found pre-nerf Phantasm Mesmers, pre-nerf Spirit Rangers and post buff Necromancers hard to play… and did quite well at some of the supposedly “harder” classes.

All things are subject to interpretation. Whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth. No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce.

I for one quite enjoy playing the “simpler” specs. I’m not a terrible player… I can play the more “complex” professions with a certain level of finesse.

However… I don’t enjoy it.

For me… and gamer’s like myself… we tend to look at complexity as the enemy. Rather than seek complex, intricate systems that require a lot of patience and skill to master, I have opted for simpler, easier to pick up and play systems. After a hard day of work, I don’t enjoy dealing with the tedium of complex game mechanics.

Just because something is seemingly complex, doesn’t make it deep. On the other hand, just because something is seemingly simple to pick up and play does not make it shallow. Depth comes from the degree to which one can learn and master the systems at play.

Let’s not fool ourselves here… All classes in the game are simple to understand. There are only a limited number of rules one must need to know. There are hundreds of thousands of possible permutations of the mechanics and equally as many tactics to experiment with.

While anyone can play to moderate success, someone who is an expert of the game will easily defeat a novice or intermediate player.

Pressing 1 button 10 times isn’t necessarily easier than pressing 10 different buttons once. These incessant screams for changes because you don’t like the “simpler” specs is selfish and annoying.

Get over yourselves… you aren’t “Pro” because you are playing a class which plays differently.

What you’ve listed are not counters, they are preventions (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/prevention).

All skill in this game can be prevented, not so many can be countered.
Entangle, for instance, can be countered by killing the vines or prevented by dodging the skill.
Signet of Rage can be prevented by interrupting the casting or countered by stripping the boons.
Moa Morph, as it is now, has no counter.

lol… oh semantics. He mentioned “dodge” as being the only “counter” so I was going along that vein of reasoning.

Well then… there are various ways to “prevent” it.

Yes they do. It doesn’t change the fact that both can be utterly brainless due to having access to easy mode defensive mechanics such as triple stance or indefinite frames which is the problem.

It doesn’t matter. The point is that there was a thread floating around talking about 1v1 counters and I told everyone that Warrior counter Spirit Rangers and a bunch of Warriors scuttled out of the woodwork telling me that was an idiot for saying so.

B-but they already have! They just get out shined by the condition meta, which doesn’t mean they are not viable.

Mesmers, Elementalists, Thieves, Necromancers and Warrior needs at least one viable Bunker build which will be competitive in high end arenas.

Dunno about cleric Ele’s now days, but I’m fairly sure a Warrior can go bunker with the Signet of Healing buff (+banners heal & buffs). Thieves will never be able to bunker, thanks to their defensive trait tree been bonded to stealth. The Necro and Mesmer point is a given though…

Guardian damage builds are not viable in high end tournaments. Okay… maybe Warrior bunkers could potentially do something… but Bunker Ele’s are dead.

Every Profession should have at least one viable High Damage build and one viable Bunker build in competitive tournament play.

To do list:

Guardians, Elementalists and Mesmers need at least one viable high damage build which will be competitive in high end arenas.

and

Mesmers, Elementalists, Thieves, Necromancers and Warrior needs at least one viable Bunker build which will be competitive in high end arenas.

Equality is not a concept. It’s not something we should be striving for. It’s a necessity. Equality is like gravity. Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness means everyone gets what they need.

Someone shouldn’t be forced to play a Bunker in a competitive environment just because they love the concept of playing the Guardian profession. All roles should be available in some way or another… and not just available. It should be able to execute with the best of them… and with deadly precision and efficacy.

Do I think that the game is balanced and fair?

No, but I plan to do everything in my power to make it so. We are the players. They made the game for US! Let your voice be heard.

Has anyone else noticed that this game is considerably less responsive since the last patch?

I’m talking from basic abilities to using my mouse to move, which sometimes completely stops working while I’m running. Everything has an extra weight and failure to it that it didn’t before.

I thought this was just me at first, but a couple people mentioned it today while I was playing. One engineer says it’s particularly noticeable with skills like Elixir R, which require relatively quick reaction.

I am also having this issue.

Mesmers do not fit in the current Meta. Mesmers need build diversity. Shatter was our only viable spec in high end tournies which was bad. Now Shatter is no longer viable… we have nothing when facing competitive groups.
