I seem to be missing the “quote” widget so I’ll make this a standalone.

The problem SoR faces vs BG as far as ppt goes it that of mismatched primetimes. The bulk of BG’s players are online when most of SoR’s are not. I’m don’t know why there isn’t a separate Asian group of servers like there is a separate group of EU servers. At least their primetimes kinda match up instead of being completely out of whack. I can only assume that there aren’t enough Asian players to form their own group so they have to go somewhere.

The idea of points being scored proportional to the number of opponents faced attempts to address the inequities that the mismatched primetimes introduces.

If you’re gonna say “It’s a 24/7 game, live with it”, answer me this: Why aren’t the NA and EU servers pitted against each other? Are they grouped separately so that the prime-times align better? I would think so.

It was a not an issue of coverage that influenced their decision, it was one over latency. Its a 24/7 hour game live with it, and stop being so arrogant – more people that play this game live outside the NA than you’d think, even some of us have the net.

Actually I have found the lag/latency pretty much the same in EU as it is here. Larger zergs equals 1 spamming lag. There was a week or so when it had massive issues, but it was on Anet’s end, they tweaked something and it fixed it for me at least.

No was originally near the GvG on SORBL, but was interrupted. Moved out of the way behind the windmill on BGBL, same deal. I’m not much good, it appears, when I get 5-8 adds, lol Was an epic fight though, easily 10 minutes long before that happened, and some took the time to watch, tons of fun. Guess we’ll try again later.

Jahn is right, at least about EU for the most part. There are still blobs/zerging there, but here’s one example of map activity (below) that gives an indication that there are literally fights everywhere.

Ppt-based or fight-based, both styles are legitimate ways to play WvW, and NA seems to moving towards more open field fights, which may ultimately satisfy both sides of the coin. But in EU the fights tend to be one guild going after another guild, whereas on NA, the fights tend to be server rivalry vs server.

(Bonus pix is the peanut gallery you see often watching organized GvGs, these are regular numbers that come out, and GvGs tend to happen daily, if possible).

Most solo roamers out in WvW are your scouts. They see everything and keep the map updated. The fact that WvW can accommodate both coordinated guild pushes and solo roaming, and benefit the team overall, is a good thing.

I decided to roam (for once) in TCBL for a bit with my ele and ran into a fun TC group at the bridge outside of Briar. I’m not specced for 1v1s, but we had a few fun duels. Also messed around a bit in the north, heh. Had about 6? TCs chasing me for 5 minutes =p
I tried pming you, but you were offline
Ran into quite a few tc groups aroudn the map that respected the 1v1 /salute

lol this is the thing that’s annoying the heck out of me today … I was in a 4v1 fight at ruins and took out the two thieves, was working on third thief and guardian, then 25 man zerg rolled over me. Was a good fight, finally found it .. and meh.

Feels like NA gameplay is “throw more bodies at it” rather than improve skill. I don’t mean this as an insult, I’m just saying if it’s the 2 silver armour repair bill, I’ll email it to you. I just want to improve, I’m a mediocre player at best … and getting rolled over by 25 after having fun with four is not challenging.

A good roamer doesn’t put them self in a position to be zerged down by 25 ppl, always keep an eye on your surroundings^^. sPvP is the same, you see 4 ppl coming at you on a point, you can either dash off to another point, or bunker up and keep them from caping it as long as possible. Knowing when to fight and when to run is probly the best skill for anyone in WvW, roamer or zergling (actually, knowing how to have fun, and how to fight somewhere in there, are also bes^^ww)

Yeah I didn’t see them coming until they were on top of me sadly, lol. I was too overjoyed at finding four that would fight me I guess I got a little sloppy

Stealth traps. Perfect for garrison watergate and get a buddy to put one down at hills. Over and over until the guy gets frustrated/killed.

You can only place one trap per map per hour, so work with a friend.

Ability to 1v1 is not only gear/spec dependent itself, but the class involved can make it vastly more do. For instance, if I catch a staff ele out in the open when I have my roaming gear on….. free points. They can’t run and they cant hurt me… and there is nothing they can do about it no matter how good of a player they are. (well unless they get help or have somewhere real close to run)

Yes absolutely. I find more success on my memser, but I do believe it’s because I play it far more and subsequently have learned all the nuances, y’know? For months I was frustrated by thieves because it felt like the only class I could not counter. But I kept going and actively looking for them, and gradually improved. Improvement via 1,000 papercuts kind of deal, lol. I see that translating into zerg play for me too. And I only have one set of gear. Hrm, lol, maybe I should invest in another set eh?

And I’m not chest thumping either, that’s not my style. Like I said, I was just surprised. The ones who ran all started the engagement with me, but bailed quickly. Perhaps they were called away on more pressing matters.

I honestly think to grow as a player you need to challenge yourself, and that often comes from running into small groups and learning how to counter. A month ago, any thief I ran into usually meant instant death for me. Now? Not so much. But I had to pay a ton of armour repair bills to learn. Learning and growing from that makes me all the more effective for zerg play too because I can use those skills in massive fights. I’m often one of the last ones standing because of this.

And yeah Sykko, I was probably wrong spot wrong time.

I will say this for NA tho, I’ve had some nice under water fights. EU tends to avoid water like the plague.

Well I spent the bulk of my day watching people run from me. From some of the big name guilds too. I looked behind me to see if maybe there was a massive TC zerg, but nope. I really am quite terrible, you guys should stop running, haha

I’m not a big fan of spvp .. but I guess I’ll find the fights I’m looking for when I head back to EU.

Thank you to the ranger on BGBL who did a bit of swimming with me by garrison. Rangers are always a fun challenge under water, but was sad to see you vanish right as the fight was concluding in mid combat. I guess your map queue popped.

Also thanks to the MERC fellow at Bay on TCBL. I beckoned and you came out, but the minute I started fighting you ran back inside and didn’t come back out until 10 more of you were there. Was really hoping for a little 1v1.

That said, what I have noticed EU vs NA (having played both) …. Lower tiers in EU still have highly skilled players, just less population. You can still get a good fight out of low pop EU servers who typically don’t sit out the week if the match is lopsided because EU tends to be more about the fights and less about the meta anyhow.

They’re pretty tough as is, but I think it’d be win-win for them.

The problem we face is that we are primarily PST based. Meaning that in EU we could only really night cap PvD— and due to work hours we’ve realized we could not even muster a roster if we did try and play during the day.

If it was a matter of just staying up later I would definitely be down for it. Curse you physics of time and space!!

NA’s problem is that even guilds who really could be contenders if they wanted are too reliant on their egos to try. This ultimately leads to their downfall and their are many guilds that are just shells of what they once were.

So any time an EU powerhouse makes a trip to NA it is totally worth it to watch the NA guild egos shrivel up and cry.

Here’s an example of an EU zerg at about 7pm PST. There’s a big myth that it’s all pv-door, and certainly if you go to some servers that already have an NA presence, you’ll get that and be bored to tears. But if you pick a server that is within the top 10, and facing say 1-4 seed servers, you’ll have plenty to fight. Just do your research, watch the MOS at all hours, even outside of EU prime, and see who are the contenders.

Haha, nothing. I’m just really enjoying it here and knowing a lot of NA guilds pretty well, I can reasonably guess who would thrive and learn and grow here. AGG is just one example, there are others, too. I know my personal skill level has improved 1,000-fold. Doesn’t mean forever, but I think there are certain benefits to, say, a summer European vacation. And traditionally the guilds that have excelled at GvG have played both sides of the pond.

Well, you are definetly thinking of a different Anet than I do. Because I can say almost certainly that Anets developers dont even have GvG on the horizon of their schedule. Maybe there are some concepts of a few content designers who were really motivated and did some extra hours, but thats it.
Cant sell weapon skins trough the gem store off that.

In NA, if someone spots a naked zerg, people run to the forums and laugh about it, delighted. Here, not so much.

Pets can climb walls and attack siege, Not sure if thats intended or not but its been that way for a long time. Those names and “people” your seeing buy the gate are just clones and such. Again they usually appear inside the gate but dont really do much damage.

Also did you notice the one guy that did make it up inside is from ANET? Maybe he/she is there getting info on how these glitches are being done.

The ability for pets to do this was removed about two months ago, but reappeared with the patch about three to four weeks ago. Pets can walk through gates, run up steps and attack siege. Both ranger and necro pets.

Eh I’d be against gems for it simply because it makes it unfair between the haves and have nots. It should be a respec advisor like your trait npc, found only on WvW maps, and cost about the same as re-traiting.

WPs can mean the difference between saving a T3 structure and having it fall.

I’ll take on any thief on under water on my mesmer. Most of them just flee for shore.

Rule of WvW: it’s foolish to fight a mesmer under water.

And for land .. oh it’s hilarious to watch the thief get all freaked out when he’s suddenly turned into a moa. I think I use that just for the sheer comic effect of watching the panic kick in. And the duration of the moa spell for most of these glass cannon thieves is enough to kill them.

If you play your memser, look into Prismatic Understanding and clone dodge roll.
