I don’t think any certain weapon is mandatory when choosing to slot any of the Elite Specializations.
What you can’t do is use the new weapon without the Elite Specialization.
Good luck.
this…you can still be a LB/GS druid, or a Staff Tempest, you don’t HAVE to use the new weapon
you can become a tempest and just use the shouts and the overload mechanic as a staff ele
or you can be a GS/M+F dragon hunter and have access to the new virtues+traps
For the price there charging,it better have a ton of maps and content.
What are you guys expecting anyways?
Well tbh when they announced an expansion,i was expecting one like we got with gw.
Two classes and a whole new continent(massive map) and new story also unlockable skills and capture elite skills. This seems not the case with gw 2 so they better have a load of map areas and content for the price we paid then.
(of course things like capping skills cannot be added like in gw)
You can’t compare the two games. GW2 requires much more development time than GW1 due to it being an actual MMO, instead of an instanced party game. They have to implement maps that can house lots of players, and enough events to keep everyone entertained, rather than a party of 8.
I feel like everybody is forgetting that there are 3 biomes to each map. The roots, the underground, and the canopy. So verdant brink is 3 maps in 1. If they give us 5 maps, that is technically 15 layers of maps.
If you look on the map, the Grove is the smallest capital city, but there are 4 layers to the map, so what it lacks in horizontal land, it makes up for in verticality.
Verdant brink is already a decent sized map, and we’ve seen roughly 25% of the canopy layer ONLY.
They needed a pure long range option.
Scepter is the only 1200 range option, but pairing it with any offhand but focus, forces you into mid range combat.
The longbow will allow the Guardian to stay at 1200 range.
There was always going to be more than one map. Did anyone not watch Colin’s address or read the Wiki? One region – three overlapping, vertical maps.
“New region with a high amount of verticality built into the maps
Multiple open world jungle maps [3] made up of three distinct “biomes”
The core, the floor of the jungle itself
The roots of the jungle, that run deep beneath the jungle
The canopy, way up above, where the Pact fleet is scattered across the top of the jungle"https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns
Was never confirmed to be only 3 maps, in actuality I’m expecting 5 or so. If you watch the chronomancer stream, when he is fighting the giant armadillo that shoots scales at you, he is WAY WAY in SW Magumma where Magus Falls is, but he is in the most SW point of Magus Falls you can be. Then there is no telling how far north they will go.
So I do WvW a lot with classes, but I usually just go in with my PvE build and zerg around. I recently have been intrigued with sPvP, but I need help picking a class.
I know i could try them all and find the one I like, but I don’t want to go in and get rofl stomped on my first character and then instantly get turned off about wanting to PvP.
So anyways, I’m not too good at combo fields. I know blasting fire gives might from PvE haha. This prob knocks ele out of the competition.
I’d like to be able to kill reasonably quick, but I also don’t want to die in 2 hits.
I don’t want to be a one trick pony where I blow everything and then have to wait for CD’s to burst again. I’d like to be able to stay in the thick of combat and still be able to hurt even once I’ve blown all my CD’s.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the replies!
There were a couple boss fights that are amazing:
Marionette was fun
Scarlet was kind of a fun fight
Vine Wrath was fun when it first came out
The new Wyvern fight looks like it could be awesome
although he is still pretty static, at least he attacks you directly as he’s flying
So I’ve been mass collecting laurels mostly because i don’t know what to do with them. I’m not a big fan of ascended gear, since all content is balanced around exotic gear, so the 5% dps increase is neglible for me. I also have all the stuff that I could want from the laurel vendor atm.
Should I hold on to them and wait and see if anything new is introduced in HoT?
I don’t think there will be because each zone is said to have their own currency, kind of like silverwastes and bandit crests.
Should I just convert them to T6 mats and make gold off them?
easy, don’t vote for one…if you don’t prefer one, then you can just close out and not vote at all
And this is why the poll has bias. I’m done trying to explain why this is the case. Either learn some basic polling requirements or be prepared to have skewed and not relevant results.
lord, this isn’t a life or death situation bro
I’m just asking what people like so far….if you pick one, that means it is the one that you have some interest in of the ones revealed so far
yeah, I left the combo fields off of there because you can’t really single one out and putting all of them in there so that you give area might, regen, switness, and protection could be a bit much.
Elementalists acutally have a long tradition of manipulating the cost, cast time, recharge, etc. of the next few spells. That’s actually what Glyphs did.
This is true, but that’s for elementalists. A tempest class which is based on storms, shouldn’t be dabbling in time manipulation. It makes no sense. The skills should be based on the 4 elements instead of arcane.
In actuality, I would have liked an elite that combined the 4 elements into one storm, to make an actual tempest storm.
nope haha
/15 chars
I voted for the mighty Dragon Hunter. I am the minority!
I hope to see you in the Magumma Jungle fellow Dragonhunter!
Also…..~2200 votes! I didn’t expect so many, thanks guys! I really am surprised by the results now. At first, I thought they were off because of the small sample size, but 2200 votes is quite substantial, yet still very small in the entire player base of gw2.
With tempest being the most recent elite spec announced, i figured to have a lot of Ele mains watching the forums, but it seems most people didn’t like it too much.
Reaper is actually doing fairly well with Necro being in a not so great state atm.

You forgot 3 options:
- I do not have a preference
- They -=ALL=- suck
and- Who cares? I won’t know until I can actually PLAY THEM?
I prefer #3 on my list….
You have to be hyped about at least one of them so far, unless you strictly play one class in the base game.
Biased survey is biased. You need to include the “I have no preference” or “None”. I play quite a few classes (and main elementalist) and so far none of them are preffered. They are all “meh” to me.
And no, you don’t have to be hyped about any of them so far.
Thats not biased thats a non vote.
If the point is to find our which is most prefered, prefering neither is irrelevant to the questionIt is relevant to the vote because it is a preference. Not including a none option means that people who did not prefer one, will now choose one swaying the actual poll giving more votes to something that did not should not have gotten it in the first place.
For example – a person prefers none or they are all equal to them in their mind. THere is no choice for said person to vote in the poll, therefore they will either randomly pick one (not a true vote) or abstain from voting (loss of collection) or “just pick one” because they have no choice. All of this leads to a biased vote that is not accurate.
easy, don’t vote for one…if you don’t prefer one, then you can just close out and not vote at all
As expected, Robert’s ones are stomping all over Karl’s horrible ones.
aren’t all of the specialisations created by everyone in that dedicated team?
I’m a bit surprised that Tempest ist last, even behind Dragonhunter…
They are primarily designed by one dude i believe
As far as I know they are worked on by a dedicated team, however there is one person that sort of has the spec as his “baby” if you will.
I have an idea in my head of what the attack should have been, but it’d be VERY particle heavy, which let’s be honest, the ele already his particle heavy. This attack would have been so kitten though!
Meteor Shower + Ice Bow 4 + Glyph of Storms(Lightning) + Tornado(or Sandstorm)
Let it pump out some flame stacks, rejuv, blind, and bleeding.
the elite should have defined the spec…instead it makes us Chronomancer 2.0 with shouts
this specialization is just very underwhelming, it just feels like an advanced elementalist like someone said above, rather than a “violent storm of elements”
At least Roy is working on the Revenant
I like him, and he(and his team) took feedback on the revenant, and in less than a week, made TONS of changes.
You can post this strawpoll on reddit too. Maybe you will get a bit of a larger sample size that way.
thank you for the advice!
They said on a live stream that you need level 80 + 60 hero challenges to fully unlock everything on a profession, and that you will be able to use tomes of knowledge to get to 80.
Also, all characters are going to have a hard time unlocking masteries. Everyone starts at zero when the expansion hits.
All excess experience that we have earned in the first 3 years was turned into the hero points, or whatever you use to purchase stuff from Miyani now.
So your fresh level 80 revenant will be at the same starting point as a 3 year 80.
Chronomancer is lightyears ahead of everyone else.
I see what you did there :P
I don’t, since light year is a unit of length, not time.
Sorry, it took so long to get back to you, just got off work.
A light year is a unit of distance based on how fast light travels in one year. This particular unit of length is very, very dependent on time.
Now I hope you can see what you did there haha
Anyways, I am surprised by the votes so far. The same aura of “meh” surrounding Tempest, kind of surrounded the Reaper was well. I wonder if the negativity of the name “Dragonhunter” hurt the spec quite a bit.
Granted there are only 197 votes as of me writing this, which is a very small sample size, but it makes you wonder.

LA jp, and be level 21-31….you can get silver doubloons that are going for about 1-2g each on the tpost atm
For an elite for a TEMPEST, why in the hell is it using time as a mechanic? Why couldn’t it be summoning an AoE as big as meteor shower, but shifting between the 4 elements?
THAT would have been a sweet elite!
Leave the time mechanic to chronomancers!
Not happening. They will announce it at Gamescom or Pax Prime, both start in August, and I believe October to be the release month based on the previous Pre-Purchase, Release Date announced, Actual Release.
Base game:
Pre-Purchase: April
(2 months)
Release Date Announced: June 28th
(2 months)
Release Date: August 28th
HoT:
Prepurchase: June
(2 months)
Release date announced: August
(2 months)
Release date: October
Chronomancer is lightyears ahead of everyone else.
I see what you did there :P
lol lordkrall, he wants to know if the new weapon being introduced to each class is going to be exclusive to HoT buyers, and won’t be part of the professions core weapons, and if that’s the case he wants the weapon to be core and the elite spec to enhance the weapon/utilities
To which the answer is yes, you can only equip a new weapon if you use the elite specialization, an elementalist will not be able to use warhorn, only tempests
Also, the elite spec DOES enhance your utilities and weapon you get, on top of getting an exclusive weapon.
However, a tempest and an elementalist will be on even playing field still. You get locked out of one of your usual trait lines and are forced to take certain traitline that you may not actually want, to be able to use warhorn, utilities, and overload. You to choose whether you want to lose Fire, Lightning or Arcane trait lines, all of which have some very good grandmasters in them.

I am definitely going to play the kitten out of my Revenant first, but I think Dragonhunter will be my first elite spec i try out. Chronomancer seemed okay but I am not one for overly complex mechanics that involve time. Dragonhunter looked awesome, love the longbow skills and the traps looked sweet. Reaper looked cool as well, but it involves being on a necro. Tempest looked pretty dull.
I am looking forward to the Warrior,Thief, and Revenant specs though, so my answer may change.
With 4 out of 9 elite specs shown, what has been your favorite?
yeah, many people speculated that each class would get a different set of utilties as well, but that’s out the window since Necro and Ele both got shouts
we should know soon enough, because i would assume thief and druid are coming up quick, since they seem to have more info put into the client than warrior and engie
I’m actually somebody who is looking forward to Thief staff, I think that sounds awesome.
dont forget we still have glint coming up, its assumed she is a 5 signet utility legend, so she very well could have a 25% movement speed passive on one of the signets
but in the meantime, we have super speed with impossible odds
Every class is a farming machine
What we need is
1. Pve and pvp group viability
2. The complete dev focus on necro and reapers to stop the class mechanic nerfs
Why so serious bro?
This was awesome!
Razah is not a demon.
“The protomatter that makes up the Mists strains toward creation, often spawning demonic creations in nightmarish forms. Not all creatures from the Mists are demonic, however. When the Mists come into contact with a suitable human template, for example, it can copy that form, creating a sentient entity with humanoid appearance and an almost human mind.
Razah is one such creation. It has sprung into being a fully-formed adult. It has the knowledge and capabilities of a human, but lacks common sense. As a result, it asks odd questions about human emotions, contemplates human motivations, and attempts to duplicate human mannerisms. Razah is a contradiction: more than human in some ways, and less than human in others. It needs an identity, a personality, and a purpose. Hopefully, it will find its purpose by working with a hero. Otherwise, it could degenerate into an abomination as monstrous and inhuman as its demonic brethren"
- The Guild Wars Nightfall Manuscripts
He is a sentient entity of the mists built as a human construct. It does say that if it does not have a purpose then it can degenerate into a demon.

Master Togo and Rurik
Battlescars is a good skill yeah.
Impossible Odds was THE reason Shiro was challenging though……until Pain Inverter came out.
He wasn’t challenging. Taking Shiro took me about 1 and half minute with my necro on second or third try. Just like one said: Spoil Victor.
I was on a ranger and not well versed on necro, i hated that class in gw1, so i was trying other options as a ranger, so that could be why i thought he was more challenging, i was also 11 years old back then sooo haha
Battlescars is a good skill yeah.
Impossible Odds was THE reason Shiro was challenging though……until Pain Inverter came out.
Honestly though, Impossible Odds sound like a perfect elite skill. I could imagine it pulsing Quickness and resistance, or some other similar functionality to the GW1 version.
I know, you don’t even have to switch it around much and it would be awesome.
I don’t know how many of you are gw1 nutz or how many of you remember fighting shiro in gw1 but he had an AWESOME skill that he would activate only under 25% health, that turned him into a kitten!
Impossible Odds(10 seconds.)
All Shiro’s attacks are double strikes and hit nearby foes. Shiro transfers conditions from himself to foes he hits. Initial effect: removes all hexes from Shiro.
The ult would make you double strike, each strike does AoE damage, transfers all conditions on you to ur target, all lasting for 10 seconds.
The part about hexes couldn’t happen because they don’t exist in gw2.
What do you guys think? I personally think it sounds like an awesome Ult.
Shiro never utilized stealth. He was known more for his brutal strength than he was for tactical moves.
It’s highly doubtful that we’ll be getting stealth with him.
Shiro isn’t the signet heavy legend, Glint is supposedly.
That_Shaman already datamined one of Shiro’s utilties or elite, and before anyone mentions it doesnt have an energy cost or a cast time, this was datamined the same time as the weapon skills that we have today, and back then the weapon skills didn’t have energy costs either.

Rev staff isnt lower DPS because its tied to the “support” legend . . its lower dps cus it can heal while u fight
it’s called balanced
Even if they buff the dps for rev, staff would still be lower for the fact it can heal you while you fight
let the gear balance the weapon
if i go berserker then make it buff the damage to be competitive damage, but not as much damage as Shiro and the “true dps weapon” that rev will be getting, and then make it do crap healing
if i go clerics or nomad’s, then make it buff the healing to where the healing makes a difference and then i do alright dps, but definitely not as low as what is currently in beta
I beg to differ when you said guardian can always do good damage with gs, run nomad gear and see
run nomad on revenant and then you’ll realize you wish you could still do the same amount of damage as your nomad guardian
I don’t think Revenant needs weapon swap like other core professions. They need weapon swap tied to legends like Anet is trying to do during development in the first place.
If I choose Ventari and Jalis, then I wield Staff or Hammer depending what stance I’m in.
Weapon swap on Legend swap would be what I’m referring to.
I’m not saying ALL legends need to do as much dps as the Power legend, but it needs to be relevant dps. According to theorycrafters, the current dps for the legends we have in the beta is 1/3 the dps of the current lowest core class.
If the weapons aren’t doing relevant dps or if the revenant doesn’t have a way to switch to a dps heavy weapon like Kitsune said, then Revenant’s aren’t going to have an easy time finding pve content. We already see it in the beta, people are posting ads not wanting revenants to come in because of the low dps.
Shiro (or the power legend) and the “Power” trait line cannot be the saving grace for the current Revenant’s dps problems.
The current problem that I see, is that weapons were created to fit with a particular legend, staff have quite a few supportive options with not that much dps since it fits with the support legend.
The legends are fine the way they are. It’s like being able to play Tanky one second with Jalis, and if my team starts getting wrecked or I’m low on energy, I can switch to Ventari and support a bit in MID COMBAT.
All weapons need to be able to do competitive dps no matter what legend you are using. If i want to use staff, but use it with the upcoming “power” legend, I should still be able to do competitive dps with it, while having the perks of the heals dropping from AA and the AoE condi cleanse.
The main point of this thread is that core classes aren’t penalized for taking certain weapons for a certain playstyle. Guardian can do great dps with GS no matter the utility build. Ranger can pew pew with LB whether they are running pet skills, traps, or shouts. Warrior can do awesome dps with GS whether they are running shouts or banners. So why can’t the Revenant do awesome dps with staff or hammer, while running ANY legend?
Making sure each weapon is doing legitmate dps for the Revenant will also open up more builds. I could be a staff wielding Jalis Rev, or a Hammer wielding Ventari Rev. This would also eliminate me feeling clunky if I’m running Staff Ventari, and I decide to switch to Jalis for a bit. I currently feel like something is off when I switch to my “second” legend because of low energy or because I need to trigger some condi removal.
If Revenant stays the way it is, everyone is going to using Shiro + Double Swords or whatever the Legend + Weapons combo is, because dps is too important, and they will likely camp in that legend too, unless the team absolutely needs heals, or unless the Rev needs some survivability by switching to Jalis.
At the end of the day, you can say damage numbers are untuned still, but the devs are saying the “dps focused legend and weapon” are still to come. My reply to you would be “EVERY single weapon needs to be dps focused” just like the core classes have.
I suspect swords will come if shiro is indeed the 4th spec, which strong indications show
Remember, the beta isn’t the full Rev, so plenty to be added yet
That’s pretty fair. I know it’s a beta but I thought all the specs were released/revealed already for it.
We have not released all weapons and legends for the Revenant yet. Right now there is definitely a gap in the playstyles offered as we haven’t discussed the more pure DPS focused setup yet. soon tm.
that shouldnt stop us from being able to do competitive dps with other legends, if a guardian specs into pure shouts to support, they can still do really good dps with their weapon, and that is simply not the case with Revenant, it feels like if i choose ventari as a legend and equip staff, then im only dpsing for the healing orbs to drop because my damage is laughable
im in full zerk gear and all the weapons hit like im wielding a wet noodle
The class is only 50% complete for this beta test. What you are looking for isn’t currently available. The general consensus predicts that we will get more dps/zerker geared legends, specializations, and weapons down the line.
Four of five specializations does not strike me as only 50 percent complete, and the fundamental profession mechanics will not change with an additional specialization or weapons.
In the Ventari livestream they stated they almost made the staff the “damage oriented” weapon but instead made it more CC based and backed it off in the damage department. This means in development they went in with the intentions of making certain weapons and legends fit a particular niche. We have condi, tanky, supporty, so the only thing we are missing is a Power based legend with the weapon set to back it up.
Damage is terrible but that’s okay as I’m assuming the high damage legend is Shiro and is not yet playable. I’m not judging that part of the Revenant yet.
I would. With no trinity in this game you’re supposed to do decent DPS on top of being able to support.
Ventari has almost zero reason for being in the game so far. All the other classes have enough sustain to not care about a fully heal skilled legend.
Hardcore content could change that, but I still want to be able to do really good dps while channeling Ventari.
With those numbers, they would be a clear worst DPS of all professions. But we know the DPS weapon, DPS legend and DPS trait line will be coming. A damage-oriented melee weapon set, some damage modifiers and a boost from Anet and everything will look very different. That’s why I think it is too early to try going for accurate calculations. Everyone is complaining about damage currently, so they will most likely boost DPS (except if we all missed something in the class design). I was mostly disappointed over mace-axe which should be the best condition DPS weapons of the revenant but feel very weak.
The problem is, you are supposed to be able to do damage while supporting. If I can’t pump out DPS with staff while using Ventari legend, I’m essentially a support bot instead of being a damage dealing support.
Are the numbers untuned? Probably.
Is Anet going about the Revenant the wrong way? I’m not sure holding back the revenant DPS and buffing it to other core specs is the way to go, but to each their own.
your hammer advice is awesome, i’m killing stuff way faster than i was before
that burst when above 50% energy is actually pretty decent
the dps is still on the low end though
