If i play as I normally do, I wouldn’t be in maps like SW and DT, in fact, that would be the last place I would be. I would probably be leveling my mesmer instead.
Why are you forcing yourself to play something you don’t want to play?
To have the privilege to become an unpaid tester for Anet?
because I’m like everyone else who is licking their chops to see something new in the game, which hasn’t happened since the beginning of January, I also want to know if I like the Revenant or if I should just use my tomes on the Mesmer
It’s not because you spent XX amount of time farming something that you have the certaincy you’ll get that item.
I find it quite amusing to see people who farm hours on end to get a portal and complain they don’t get it.
It’s only for a beta test where a very small portion of the map will be available with only a fraction of the content that will be in HoT available.
It’s not as if this item gives you access to a super duper secret zone where you can drop super duper items….
Why don’t you spare yourself all that stress and deception? Play as you do usually, and if you drop a portal, good for you. Otherwise, it’s not the end of the world. Just wait for the open beta when the expansion will be much more complete and will give you access to a lot more stuff.
If i play as I normally do, I wouldn’t be in maps like SW and DT, in fact, that would be the last place I would be. I would probably be leveling my mesmer instead.
and yet, some people even get 2 portals which is utterly useless.
why not flag accounts that already have it, redistribute those duplicates to others that have been farming for days without success. (me included)
this is turning me off from even trying
give the extra portals to those who actually NEED the kitten thing
The only thing i can think of, is certain accounts have been flagged to receive beta access.
So Anet thought of a sneaky way to get people to play in SW and DT which have been dead the past couple of months by letting everyone think they have a chance to get beta access.
I have seen multiple people with 2-3 portals already, and TONS more without even 1.
yup, 5 more hours for me of VW and constant escort quests, and nothing….2 nights in a row….i’ll wait for open beta now
I kind of feel like our voices are being heard. Maybe they increased the drop rate because people logged in for 12+ hours yesterday, didn’t get it, and now the population in the maps are already dwindling again.
I mean, what else would motivate you to go back and farm again after 12 hours of it?
From what i’ve been reading, no. It only drops from mobs and event chests. Not the chests that require keys.
by event chests, do you mean the big golden chests after VW and Nocht, or can it also pop up in the bonus chests that pop up above the mini-map
Yeah, I just spent 6 hours in SW after work, I am now going to bed with no Portal.
It feels worse than when I didn’t get in the first beta because I’m trying pretty hard to get that darn portal, but coming up empty handed
I’ll probably do one more night’s worth of farming and if I don’t get it, then screw it. I’m not gonna keep beating my head against this games RNG wall.
If you want the super maximum bonus to physical skills (Berserker’s Power phase 3 20% + Physical Training phase 3 150% = 170%) just use a burst skill and pop Signet of Fury for instant max endurance. It’s only temporary though, and requires specific skills and timing.
If you just want max efficiency for your physical skills, only use them at/near max adrenaline.
If you want to best utilize Berserker’s Power and keep bottoming your adrenaline for the damage bonuses every 10sec, don’t use physical skills or just use them for the control effects and get whatever bonus you get for the adrenaline at the time.
It’s not max endurance that gives you the damage boost on Beserker’s Power, that is stick and move, so you would actually have to use the heal skill that puts you back at max adrenaline, which I’ll probably have to end up doing.
I could go use my burst skill, use the heal, and then pop Rampage to have Rampage at 170% damage.
However having to use my heal skill to “get around” that sort of mechanic is kind of the reason the trait is failing in the first place.
Or, you could do something unbelievable, and use physical skills to set up your burst. How does that sound?
Physical utilities are exclusively CC. Think of following up a t3 adrenal bulls charge/stomp/kick/bolas with an eviscerate or earth shaker. I think Anet was in particular aiming for this synergy in the trait line.
except if I’m going to use Rampage, i won’t want to use my burst
that 150% damage buff would cover every skill once you go into Rampage, because Rampage is being classified as a Physical skill
Beserker’s Power – Gain a damage boost when you use a burst skill. Boost power increases based on how much adrenaline you have built.
Stage 1 – 10%,
Stage 2 – 15%,
Stage 3 – 20%
Physcial Training – Physical skills deal more damage based on how much adrenaline you have. Physical skill recharge faster.
Stage 1 – 50%,
Stage 2 – 100%,
Stage 3 – 150%
You guys hit Beserker’s Power the correct way. Now Warrior’s will FINALLY start using their burst skill instead of just ignoring it and sitting at max adrenaline. Which is exactly what you wanted to do.
But if you wanted people to use their burst skill, WHY would you implement a trait like Physical Training?
I think Physical Training also needs to read,
Physical skills deal more damage, when you use a burst skill based on how much adrenaline you had. Physical skill recharge faster.
What this would do, is if you are at T3 adrenaline, and use ur burst, you would get 150% damage increase to physical skills, for a certain amount of time, maybe something like 8-10s. I believe that is long enough to build up T3 adrenaline again, especially with GS2 or Axe5.
This way, it’s not promoting sitting at high adrenaline again. Yes, a flat 20% damage increase to ALL skills is better than 150% to physical, so people probably would be more prone to using their burst skill, but with Rampage becoming a physical skill, I would want to avoid using my class’ mechanic before I use it, so I go in with 150% more damage.
Whereas, if it was the latter, it would promote using your burst skill before going into Rampage.

from Jon Peters: “Ice Bow and Lighntning Hammer will not be doing the same insane amount of damage like they do now when we ship HoT”
Confirmed… so what?
What’s the specifics about it? What weapon does it get? What traits does it get? What elite does it get? Name doesn’t mean jack without other specifics.
Well the first Elite spec is going to be shown off next week, and with Tempest just leaked, it would seem that that would be the one to be revealed
Jon Peters just confirmed it in Ready Up!
Ele Hype!
the bigger question is…..who cares?
Racial skills kind of suck anyways, not only are they not flashy, but most of them suck in the damage department
Do you guys think going full Zerker will waste some precision with that super-fury trait though?
So I’ve been looking at the Traits for the 3 release trait lines, of course it’s all subject to change, but i think that the Revenant will use some sort of precision based gear at least for PvE.
It seems like every trait has something to do with critical hits, and there is even a trait that lets fury give you an even bigger crit chance.
Now, whether that is Zerker, Assassin, or Sinister has yet to be seen
the more and more i think about it, Sinister seems like it’s going to be the go to, simply because most of the chance on critical hit put a condition on the enemy
however, brute force Zerker will probably work just as well
got it, so P/P on world boss farm XD
i can try out S/P since it basically uses the same build as D/D
I’m trying to find a different weapon set to give thief a bit of fresh air for me as far as PvE goes, pressing 5, backstabbing, and then AA until reveal is off can get a bit boring.
P/P unload? Seems like it could be a ton of damage with Quick Pockets and another set of P/P on weapon swap
S/P pistol whip? This could be pretty sweet
S/D flanking strike? This one seems like it could be a lot of fun.
Thanks
I miss the strategy involved in GW1, you had to know which skills were heals, and which mob was the healer, and when to interrupt and when not to interrupt.
You could shut down the healer and kill the mobs, or you could burn the healer and take out the mobs afterwards, sometime it was better to do the latter of the two options.
That’s about all I miss from GW1
I guess the safe bet is to go ahead and get exotic zerker gear now before the price goes up, and then hold off on ascended atm and wait it out for a bit in HoT to see how the new meta settles in. I have most of the ingredients to make an ascended set, so we’ll see.
Why did I have to get born into a family in Indiana sigh
So im beyond bored with staff ele, and need to breathe new life into my ele, im hoping HoT can do this but for now, im going to try out another build. I like D/D on paper, but in game, its a little underperforming. I was never big into S/F or S/D so im going with that!
Which one do you guys swear by and why? S/D or S/F?
One thing I’m really starting to get annoyed by is the events in this game.
When a new event happens it’ll add something to work on that is really only doable during the event. Look at the blades backpiece. It’s so hard to get it now because of it’s massive need for blade shards that aren’t easy to get apart from parking 10 characters at no so secret jp.
I hate one time only events that MMO’s seem to be all about these days. One time only events that give out things so people can feel like special snowflakes and show off. It aggravates me.
i see we have an extrovert here
you’re mad at an MMO because you didn’t play the game at a certain time they made an item available
you’re mad at people who got the item because you didn’t play the game at that time
the problem isn’t Anet’s or the other players’ fault, it’s your fault because you didn’t play at a certain time, or you hadn’t even bought the game yet, the people who played at the time had every right to that item, you however do not, it’s how Arenanet rewards it’s loyal fanbase
depends on 2 things;
1) Do they fix condition? (signs point to it getting better)
2) Do they make the fights hard enough to make mitigating/defensive stats worthwhile? If 1 is fixed it might change, 2 determines whether there will still be an ‘all offense’ meta or not.
well I could see 2 being a little rough, simply based on what we’ve seen with the wyvern, as long as you are coordinated enough to know when you need to defiance break the boss, you won’t have to suffer trying to dodge and mitigate his damage while he’s flying in the air breathing fire all over the place
when he was on the ground, it seemed that there were plenty of tells of when to get out of something that was going to hit hard, so I don’t think fights are going to get any harder anytime soon
So, I’m starting to prep some gear for my eventual Revenant, and I’m trying to figure out what stats to go after
By default, Zerker is the strongest for PvE, however with the taunt and survivability of Jalis, and the Condi damage potential in Mallyx, would Celestial be an even better bet to go for?
i agree, while I still liked the Storm bow a bit more than the Dryad Bow, that dryad bow was my go to #2 bow, I loved the look of that thing!
You guys probably get a lottttttt of these posts, but I just hit level 80 on my Thief, my first 80, and I’m kinda overwhelmed on what to hit first.
I need to work on crafting, as I haven’t done any at all.
Dry Top? Silverwastes? Dungeons? Fractals? Map Completion?haaaalpp ;_;
get skins that are appealing to you, work on getting exotic gear, read living story season 1, do living story season 2, pick a legendary you would like to work toward, do some WvW and PvP
I love outfits, it lets me level up through the game without having to worry about looking like a nooblord, and it keeps me from having to worry about wasting TONS of transmutation charges while leveling up to keep re-skinning my armor every 5-10 levels or so.
Not only that, I think most of the outfits that have come out look absolutely fantastic!
I like it but pretty soon half the players will be wearing it. I don’t like that you can look so good at any level without actually earning it either if I’m honest. Should at least be made level 80 or something.
To be fair, while leveling, if you are only buying armor from the armor merchant and not crafting, you’re kind of stuck with one armor for 80 levels, which kind of sucks
You guys really outdid yourselves Anet, this armor is SO good! Yeah, it’s an outfit, but I’m a stickler for keeping armor sets together, i’m kind of OCD like that, so it doesn’t bother me too much!
I really hope you guys do one for each god! My ranger could really use a Melandru set.
I hope you guys keep up the good work!
btw plz release the Mistward armor and I’ll be happy
yeah, I feel they shouldn’t have announced the expansion until they were a little closer, I thought Mike O’Brien said something like “after PAX East, things will get going very fast leading up to launch of the xpac”
I think he missed the day where he’s supposed to say “april fools”
since pax east, we got 1 closed beta, new borderlands map info, legendary info(but not really), storytelling/summary of story so far update
the closed beta was info we had already seen, the borderlands map was just adding visuals to what we were already told about it, the legendary info was basically re-stating the legendary crafting is coming(but not really telling us any new legendaries, that’s for another day), and storytelling update which should have never been removed in the first place
The thing is, they could turn world 1 and 2 of SAB on, and let us make use of the infinite coin.
but they don’t.
They could bring back the two previous worlds just for a month, and people would be happy. Let us farm some weapon skins that some people didn’t get to.
Luckily for Anet, they deleted the archived forums for the 2nd SAB release, which contained a forum that confirmed the continue coin would be usable in World 3 and 4. I specifically remember this forum, because I’m the one who asked it because I wasn’t about to buy a coin that was only usable for worlds 1 and 2, and then they release ANOTHER coin for worlds 3 and 4. Once, they confirmed that it would work in worlds 3 and 4, I bought it.
I’d rather have a May the 4th prank/reference!
First time I ever logged in thinking “I wish I was working today” XD
yeah, luckily i am working tomorrow for most of the day, sucks too, because i actually do like april fools and april fools jokes, but this isn’t funny nor cool
i LOVE april fools and april fools jokes, but this isn’t really funny, it was more just what the kitten instead
at least last year when i logged in and saw tons of bobblehead bouncing around, i was laughing my kitten off
running around making airplane sounds acting like a 5 year old? nah, that’s not really funny
Year 1, SAB
Year 2, Bobbleheads
I had high hopes for this years April Fools and logged in hoping to have tons of laughs, but
Year 3, Sepia Airplane?
Not only does this not live up to last years and definitely not SAB, it wasn’t even funny. I logged in thinking “wtf?” Then i realized the airplane mode, and old time “movie film” effect. I didn’t laugh once, whereas SAB and Bobbleheads made me laugh non-stop.
I’m hoping for SAB World 3
What about you guys?
And hereby I gave my Beta experience like I should. Yet many people who’re not even on the Beta kept on criticizing by theory-crafting in their mind by watching some video, when I was actually testing out how each of the skills work and picturing how it’d be applied in pvp and pve.
I’ll be waiting for the time when the trait is actually complete and when mist released. If the skills stay as it is now, we’ll see.
People have this weird instinctive anti-nerf reaction, I’m not quite sure why… it happens in every game just about in every stiation.
@Others even in the stress-test, player feedback is valuable on the other gameplay elements. It’s not just a stress test, it’s also a way to get analytics and player response on all the things that players could do.
Revenant feedback (and it’s clearly not tuned yet) is just like the feedback about people being confused by the mushroom mastery being ‘broken’.
Its not so much as an anti-nerf reaction so much as a “cool your jets” reaction. We’ve seen how overhyping how powerful something is leads to it being WAY overnerfed. Just look at Necromancer, arguably one of the strongest classes in Beta became the weakest class in PVE and most of PVP for years, and isn’t even all that interesting anymore after things like Shade and so on got removed. Elementalists in PVP were amazing, then they went a year or more of being basically extinct because they overnerfed them.
That’s the caution. People make snap decisions that things are OP before they can be adequately tested will only make the problem worse. Saying keep an eye on something is one thing. Going on nerf rants about a class with 3 trees, 2 legends and 2 weapons sets so far and is basically still in alpha… Maybe take a step back and breathe?
this so much
You “having a blast” with a class that is supposedly (notice, I am not claiming it is or isn´t) overpowered does not matter at all in the decision of changing it. Balancing does.
I didn’t have a blast, I watched some vids and thought it looked like a blast.
I really couldn’t tell you if the class was OP or not, until I get it into my own hands and start theorycrafting, but based on what I see, I’m just asking to keep the class the way it is and let it settle down and people figure out the “OP” class before you start knee-jerk nerfing it.
We don’t even know the full capabilities of the class yet or how it will compare to other classes once the xpac hits.
These posts are as useful as umbrella during meteor rain.
I’m not asking for nerf, I’m asking to keep it the way it is
I mean yeah they are good, but I feel that they are good simply because there is too little knowledge known about them so far, so people are freaking out when they get into combat with one.
The lack of skills has me worried because if they nerf on ability into the ground to where it is unusable, it has to sit there, be useless, take up space, and you have no choice but to just never use it.
I haven’t personally played the beta, but I have seen video of people playing it, and it looks like a BLAST!
There are cries of OP OP! This doesn’t mean that Revenant needs to be nerfed though, just bring other classes up to it’s level!
If you guys do end up nerfing the Revenant a little bit, please take special care in it, because unlike other professions, the Revenant doesn’t have other skills to put in place on a legend if the skill becomes useless. It will just have to sit there, not being used.
I personally think they need to make each skill a little bit overpowered on the legends, just to keep all of them useful BECAUSE of the lack of skill choices. I know you could slap on a legend that is better, but the legends are going to have designated roles, such as Mallyx for condi dmg.
i’m not really tired of the game though, it’s just the prospect of new shiny things to do in the expac is killing any joy i can find to do stuff in the current game haha
that being said, I do still go around and farm some world bosses and dailies
It doesn’t matter what online game I’m playing, it could be console or MMO, but whenever an expansion gets announced for a game I’m playing, I just kind of shut down playing it for a while.
I don’t really know if it’s to recharge the batteries and get a nice refreshing restart with the expac’s new content.
It makes sense in a way, simply because expansions come out, because people are getting dull with the game and are craving more content.
On my end though, I was going pretty hardcore after my legendary and leveling a Guardian pretty hardcore, but once Jan 21st happened, I just kind of shut down because I’d rather be playing the new shiny content.
Anyone else get like this?
He’ll only cover it until it’s released and then maybe up to a month worth of the launch hype and then fade away until the next expansion.
Although, you can’t blame him since he’s more of a news channel than a gameplay channel.
The real answer is don’t buy them. They’re not a rip off because they’re absolutely not necessary. If you want to spend money gambling, you make the assumption that you’re going to lose. It really is that simple.
By making it so that everyone wants needs to buy them, Anet would be doing a disservice to people who don’t want to.
As it is, plenty of people do buy them.
The problem that even the POTENTIAL payoff doesnt justify the “buy in” price. It’s roughly 16g for one key, or 125 gems. You should at least have a FAIR chance of getting something of value, rather than getting screwed.
exactly this, if you’re trying to get 10 ticket scraps to make a claim ticket that would be 160g minimum(i’ve never seen two tickets drop from the same chest) UNLESS you get lucky and get a claim ticket right out
much easier to spend 75-90g on the weapon skin in the trading post
I think they will release it either at the end of August – exactly 3 years after original release – or around holiday season.
nah, it took them 4 months(april-july) with like 5 closed beta weekends to beta test the entirety of guild wars 2 which was still in an iffy state
now that they know what they are doing and were able to push out content every couple weeks i’d say they at most would have to beta test this for 1.5-2 months with a release in april, which just so happens to be gw1’s 10 anniversary
idk if you watch the revenant Points of Interest, they say that their first closed beta is coming up quickly, and the pre-purchase bonus for the original game was to get in closed beta weekends
