Pay for your birthday gift - Mini Pack II

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jovel.5706

I played the first game alot and have almost 4,000 hours on the second game, I love them both, but you have to agree with me when I say that if ArenaNet made GW2 birthday gifts the same as they were in GW1.. people would have complained about the randomly generated miniatures.

I doubt ArenaNet would have made birthday gifts purchasable by other players in GW2, so 1 character that turned a year old = 1 try at a miniature. Different rarities of miniatures (fine, masterwork, rare, exotic) = QQ because you didn’t get an exotic mini and those that did made bank from luck.

Now though, you can spend in-game gold in specific miniatures AND buy miniature packs on the gemstore if you really want to partake in the RNG risk. They should have done birthdays by account though, so people wouldn’t be walking around with 14 miniature Queen Jennahs.

Possibility GW2 Never Gets Full Expansion

I can understand why ArenaNet doesn’t want to do an expansion at the moment.

They have alot of updates planned for 2013 in their Looking Ahead: Guild Wars 2 in 2013 blogpost as well as projects mentioned in the past, listed in the wiki itself under Upcoming changes and features

The Living Story updates are fun and we’re lucky to be getting these content patches while they implement these things into the game, but I doubt they’ll be able to continue the player character’s personal story through the living story. I doubt they’ll be able to cover the events from their article titled; The Movement of the World in their living story.

If you asked me, I’d think all of these living story updates will lead up to an expansion since during the BWE’s, and I don’t know where I got this information, they said the Ring of Fire island chain and the Crystal Desert were going to be added into the game as free updates. When ArenaNet introduced Southsun Cove we had events that helped the Consortium and the Lionguard settle down in the island… cutting down trees and building bridges. Just imagine the same scenario in the Ring of Fire islands, that island chain is the closest we’ll ever be to Cantha before sailing there on a boat.

Yeah yeah, Cantha. I know some tinfoil hat conspiracy nuts out there think ArenaNet and NCSoft devs are out to delete Cantha from the Guild Wars universe but I think it’s just rumors blown out of proportion. Maybe they’ll expand north towards the Isle of Janthir and make an expansion focused on the White Mantle and the Mursaat, or maybe into some other part of Tyria we haven’t been to yet, or maybe into Elona when Queen Jennah allows passage through the Desert Gate in Ebonhawke or whatever it’s called.. or maybe since the Pact are still a functioning union of all three orders.. the Order of Whispers will allow us to travel to Elona using their super secret method that has kept them save from Zhaitan’s forces, Kralkatorrik’s minions, AND Palawa Joko’s undead, who knows! But I think these living story updates are leading into something big that will reveal itself once the living story concludes.

Until then I agree with their choice to NOT focus on an expansion right now.

We have large versions of swords in the greatsword. We have larger versions of maces in the hammer (both are blunt weapons, so it kinda fits together). We even have larger versions of wands, pistols and shortbows… So why not a larger version of the small Hatchets we have now?

How about Halberds? Poleaxes?

They don’t have to be throwable like the spears Paragon’s used in GW1, but they would be a nice addition to the menagerie of two handed and dual wieldable weapons.

I thought those were called Javelins, light-weight spears known as ranged weapons for throwing.

[Merged]Mini Watchknight missing after patch

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Mine vanished as well.

Just wondering, should I start screenshotting everything I have in my bank, all of my characters and their belongings, all of my achievements, my account wallet, etc for future patches just in case stuff.. disappears?

For all I know a little bit of my money, karma, and dungeon tokens could have been subtracted from my wallet! If not this patch, then there’s always a chance in the next one.

This time it’s just fortunate that we have evidence we owned the mini (the Queen Jennah’s Jubilee achievements), but what if something not tied to achievements ended up missing?

“Oh look I used to have 20 more gold than this, what happened to it?” I don’t have proof that I used to own 20 more gold, unless I took a screenshot beforehand which could be outdated since I run dungeons for cash and tokens.

Maybe I’m just worrying about nothing and maybe they keep everything on record, but then again shouldn’t they have tested this patch to check for these sort of mistakes? It’s just a minipet now, imagine when people notice a decrease in their coin and tokens after patching?

Did you enjoy the Ember farm?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jovel.5706

No.

It rewards brainless berserker players who have rolled the classes best suited for DPS in PvE. No risk, lots of loot if you’re in a party so the damage requirement to be qualified for the loot is low.

There’s people making hundreds of gold in a few days from intentionally holding back an event from being completed. Meanwhile, players who have played all dungeons and all paths per day get less money a week.

It’s old CoF path 1 on steroids. Still repetitive with skill lag and hard culling, no skill involved and tons of harassment if you actually want to complete the event. The only risk being an easily avoidable ground targeted attack the embers cast that nobody will resurrect you from if you’re downed, costing you a few silver and a 40 second walk back to the embers.

I bet people who breeze by the OP post still think the main problem between the Fellblade and Lord Taeres’ Shadow is the purple design instead of the effects around the blade of Lord Taeres’ Shadow, despite the bold edit.

Also, it’s the process of acquiring an item. If I took 100 hours in GW2 to acquire a weapon, I don’t want GW1 users to acquire a GW2 lookalike freebie for free in 1 mouse click. It’s galling.

Simple solution..

Please ArenaNet, don’t touch the HoM weapons.. that way there won’t be improved counterparts of HoM weapons and free lookalike skins of weapons that normally take 100 hours in GW2 to acquire.

Reskinning HoM stuff causes too much trouble than it’s worth.

Once again you don’t seem to understand what I’m angry about. ANet has rewarded your loyalty and given you free weapon skins. What you want here in GW2 is a unique effect from GW1 OR give you GW2’s NEW weapon effects. If I get 10000 achievement points in GW2, do I get GW1 weapons, skins, achievements?

NO.

And we don’t want our weapons being handed out like candy with improved effects. Why is that so hard to understand? You can keep Lord Taeres’ Shadow, but what’s bullkitten is that it’s modeled after the Fellblade and has a much better effect, you don’t see anything wrong with that? There’s no balance here like with the FDS and Jormag’s Breath! What are the HoM weapons, disposable blueprints for future GW2 weapons? Might as well copy the Fiery Dragon Sword and make the hilt itself out of flames with fiery foot prints, or the legendary focus “The Minstrel” with better effects that can be obtained as an exotic weapon through boss loot.

If I earned my things in GW2, I expect it to be EXCLUSIVE content to GW2. Yet GW1 users with their “I played 7 years and 4000 hours in GW1” expect THEIR rewards to carry forward in GW2? If you earned your Jormag’s breath, congratulations, I didn’t have a problem with that. I also DON’T have a problem with Anet’s fiery dragon sword given to you, but getting anymore from Anet is just plain greedy (Wants exclusive unique effect that cannot be found in GW2 weapons OR effect from NEW weapon skins).

Nobody asked for the Hall of Monument rewards, those were added in 2010 after 3 years of Eye of the North being out. This was ArenaNet’s decision, not ours. It’s a shame that they’re taking HoM weapons and improving them. If they decide to do this when a “Guild Wars 3” comes out, they’ll do it and it is up to you whether you want to ignore them or earn them. If you do, I would like to read your opinions about future GW3 players getting improved versions of those weapons after how hard you’ve worked for inferior versions of them.

Hi LoneWolfie, I think you’re COMPLETELY missing the point and it shows.

You know, lots of people like to point out how Jormag’s Breath or what was known in GW1 as the Icy Dragon Sword is quite similar to the Fiery Dragon Sword, but both have their differences:

  • The Fiery Dragon Sword and Jormag’s Breath both have different draconian hilts, Jormag’s Breath having a bulkier dragon head as a hilt than the Fiery Dragon Sword.
  • The Fiery Dragon Sword also has a longer fire effect than Jormag’s Breath, clipping into the ground.
  • The Fiery Dragon Sword and Jormag’s Breath have different colored flames AND both existed in GW1, while Lord Taeres’ Shadow didn’t.

So both weapons, though similar, are equal when it comes to appearance even with subtle differences. None are neglected and left in the dust while the the other is improved. The Fiery Dragon Sword is fine where it is, unless you consider the flames that clip onto the ground, then you could argue that the Fiery Dragon Sword needs to be fixed or that Jormag’s Breath needs a boost in flame length.

Lord Taeres’ Shadow is basically a resized Fellblade with a purple design slapped on the blade (which NOBODY has an issue with btw, get over it) and a more prominent effect that looks quite similar to the concept art of the GW2 HoM Fellblade reward. Nobody would have an issue with this if both swords were on par with eachother effect-wise, which they aren’t.

As we see it, they basically left the Fellblade complaints to rot in page 1,000 while giving this brand spanking new blade better effects, using the same shape of the Fellblade, same hilt, same everything but that purple design. This could become a slippery slope, next thing you’ll see is a purple Living Short Bow or a red Seathunder Pistol both having effects tied to them while their HoM counterparts don’t. Same shape of the pistol/bow, same fish/woman, same leaves/scales, just different colors and 1 having an effect while the other has a barely recognizable effect/no effect at all.

Nobody gives a kitten if there are counterparts to the HoM weapons in the game as long as both are on par with eachother. Let’s take the Diamond Aegis Shield for example. There are two variations of this shield in GW1 known as the Amber Aegis and the Iridescence Aegis. If ArenaNet decides to make those drop in-game, they have to take as much time working on those shields as they did on the Diamond Aegis and vice versa, or else what was the point of the HoM rewards if they’re all inferior copies of their aesthetically-superior GW2 counterparts?

If you feel copying the same exact effect the Lord Taeres’ Shadow weapon on a HoM Fellblade is bad, then you and I share the same discomfort, just different sides. The solution would be to make the HoM Fellblade look like it did in the first Guild Wars game (appearance provided on one of OP’s videos). That way both will be on par with eachother and look different enough to not be considered copies of eachother, with the Fellblade being a disposable rough draft of Lord Taeres’ Shadow.

No entitlement, just protecting what we worked so hard for. ArenaNet released the Eye of the North expansion with the Hall of Monuments in it. ArenaNet were the ones that released the Hall of Monuments rewards calculator in October, 2010. Now they’re reskinning weapons and leaving their HoM counterparts behind? How productive.

Also don’t feel left out, you can still buy GW1 and earn points for the HoM stuff, but save your money if this is the road ArenaNet is taking when it comes to those items.

It’s a shame. The Guild Wars 2 version is really nice looking. It’s extremly rare to see anyone using the Guild Wars 2 HoM version as it looks nothing like the the Guild Wars 1 one. It’s puzzling why they did this. They said we were getting the Fellblade then they change the looks to something else. I’m really hoping they switch the look to the Guild Wars 1 version. Since we had a Dev reponse, maybe they’re looking into it.

I got an email from her and I’m hopeful that something eventually gets passed along to the people who can make a change. I’m sure even if it is something they plan on getting to it’s way down on the priority list – which is cool, but some word of confirmation that it may eventually happen would absolutely be welcomed.

The fact that the sword looked so amazing in GW1 and it has a dull, barely noticeable effect in GW2 is very disappointing.

I’m sure some developers have clicked on this thread to see what all the fuzz is about, CC Danicia did confirm that even if threads don’t get a dev reply they are reviewed. It would be interesting to read what ArenaNet’s thoughts are regarding the Fellblade’s appearance in both Guild Wars games and Lord Taeres’ Shadow.

Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if ArenaNet replied with a simple, “No” since they probably have bigger things to worry about. The HoM Fellblade really does need an upgrade though, I miss the animation it had in GW1.

(Nice GW1 Fellblade video by the way)

I do like to switch up my titles depending on my character’s profession and race though, can’t wear Champion of the Gods on a Charr, or Flameseeker on a Sylvari. I do the most rotation on my engineer with Master Crafter/Dungeon Master/Combat Healer/Chosen/Apprentice Toymaker and on my warrior with Guild Warrior/Avenger of the Dispossessed/Golden/Master Carver.

Copper-Fed Salvage o-Matic - Basic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jovel.5706

Jovel.5706

I personally didn’t buy the unlimited salvaging tools because they were soul bound on 1 character, kind of defeating the purpose when you have 12 characters. One having all the tools to farm nodes at ease while the others still have to worry about having the appropriate salvaging tool for the area, something I’m not complaining about but I understand why it’s considered a convenience item by those who have 1-2 main characters on their accounts.

The fact that those tools were soul bound on 1 character is a drawback, it’s like being offered a free gingerbread house . You either live in the house or you eat it to survive hunger. You get a free house, but the drawback to the deal is that you have to choose between living in it and eating it.

Same concept here, you get an unlimited tool to salvage nodes but it’s only for 1 character. The Copper-Fed Salvage O-Matic is account bound, so ArenaNet probably heard your suggestions and made it so, account bound. But where is the drawback?

Where?

It’s salvages are of basic quality. That’s good. Giving you 10% chance of rarer materials and 20% chance of recovering upgrades. It’s unlimited and costs cheaper than using regular basic salvage kits. I don’t know the exact numbers, but you’ll be making your coin back from those 800 gems in 21 years if you salvage 500 items a day. The unlimited salvaging tools were that absurd too, but it’s still cheaper and it’s account bound.

A Master’s Salvage Kit has the same chance of rarer materials AND the same chance of recovering upgrades as a Mystic Salvage Kit which is 25% chance of rarer materials and 80% chance of recovering upgrades. Mystic Salvage Kits require 1 of Master’s, Journeyman’s, and Fine + 3 mystic forge stones to craft for 250 uses.

So why should the Copper-Fed Salvage O-Matic be Master’s? That would conflict with the sale of mystic forge stones in the gemstore. If you really want a kit that has a large amount/unlimited uses, why not buy 3 mystic forge stones (which you can get from daily achievements AND certain boss chests) and craft one?

Here is how I salvage my items:

Salvageable trophies – White gear = Basic salvage kit
Fine – Masterwork = Vendor
Rare = Mystic salvage kit
Exotic that are cheap in the TP/have upgrades I want = Black Lion salvage kit

With a Mystic kit you’ll be saving more coin instead of using a regular Master’s kit AND it has 250 uses. You used to get +5 a pop from achievement chests, you should have enough.

TL;DR – No, keep it the way it is and use up the mystic forge stones in the bank if you need 25% rarer materials and 80% upgrade recovery.

Jovel.5706

I agree with you, OP. I don’t want ArenaNet to lower the difficulty so people can get a “freebie achievement.”

But how do you feel about:

  • The Liadri fight taking place above tons of players farming mobs, slowing down the fight.
  • The red circles in the Liadri fight barely noticeable because of how the floor looks.
  • The only indication of Liadri’s devastating AoE attack being red circles, how will the colorblind fight her?
  • The round glass dome the fights happen in + GW2’s camera that is constantly trying to crawl up your anus during combat.

THIS is not a challenge. This content isn’t permanent either, so ontop of these horrible flaws with the Queen’s Gauntlet we have a limited time to fight Liadri before it’s all gone, nice challenge huh?

Are you disappointed by the players?

It’s sad, isn’t it?

Before Guild Wars 2 was even in closed beta stage, people were BRAGGING about it’s dynamic event system and how there was 1,500 events throughout the game world. People described Guild Wars 2 as an, “Explorer’s game” and thus the mindless YouTube fanboy nonsense began, people claiming this was the one true “WoW killer” based on the dynamic event system alone. Guild Wars 2 isn’t perfect, but I think it delivered what was promised.

People assumed all 1,500 dynamic events, if that’s the actual number of dynamic events in the game, were all different. Everyone assumed that each zone wasn’t flooded with escort missions and capture point events, but that is what was delivered to the table. Then people started asking themselves, “Hey I already did this the last two zones, why should I do it in this one? What will I get for doing this event, a level 30 fine trinket that’s nothing compared to this one I got from crafting? A transformation tonic that costs 1s per use, when it only lasts 5 minutes? Another fine armor piece or weapon? If I do this event, nothing is going to be saved. That village/haven will be attacked again in the next 5 minutes and nothing will happen if I fail the event. There’s another village/haven a couple of minutes away if this one is overwhelmed by monsters.”

I’m not going to apologize because it is what it is, repetitive content with no consequence for failure. ArenaNet did wonderfully in the “mini dungeon” department though, I loved the Forsaken Halls, the Tears of Itlaocol, and Vexa’s Lab! I also find guild missions super fun and rewarding at the same time seriously ArenaNet, you did great. I also like the chains in Orr, like the chain of events from Fort Trinity to Orr and all of the other events that lead to the world bosses of Orr, but when Ascended-rarity weapons and armor come out, I fear the appeal for the exotic rewards these events give will dwindle, doesn’t make it less fun though! I’m not a fan of the "capture this area, escort this NPC to that other point of interest, kill that veteran boss, collect these mushrooms and turn them in to this NPC, and defeat this champion by yourself” when there is no consequences for failing such events.

Remember that little part of the manifesto, ArenaNet? When the big bridge in Snowden Drifts collapses due to a failed dynamic event?

Make dynamic events mean something. Kill all the merchants in the zone, block access to vistas/points of interest/heart quests/skill points if dynamic events fail, destroy bridges and make it so that the only way across is by swimming in a lake full of overpowered champions that will wreck you as soon as you slip a toe into the lake, flood large portions of the zone with armies of minions that scout around in separate groups like they did in GW1 if a group of veterans completed their ritual, turn villages against eachother and make the player choose which village to support so that the when the event is done the opposing village will become hostile to your presence, attacking you instead of providing the basic services, etc. There so much potential for this, so much potential to add Danger into these zones as well as adding worthwhile rewards for completing them! You already brought people back into zones with champion loot bags, just hide the champions in dynamic events that will turn the area into a battle and the zone into a disaster if such events fail.

World bosses are also too predictable, I made a thread on the suggestion forums about those!

I agree with everything the OP has said about the Fellblade and the “Lord Taeres’ Shadow” Fellblade.

I know a friend of mine who played GW1 with me a long time ago that bought the game solely to achieve 23 points in the Hall of Monuments for the Fellblade skin BEFORE THE RELEASE OF THE GAME, only to find the dull excuse we got for Guild Wars 2. He quit the game and no longer plays, sadly, but I’m sure he’d appreciate ArenaNet copying the Fellblade, resizing it, adding purple patterns on it (which I don’t care about and isn’t the issue), and like the OP said a more noticeable smoke animation. OP also suggested that the HoM Fellblade should be given the same effects it had in GW1, with clouds moving within the blade instead of smoke radiating from the sword, something alot of people agreed to in an earlier thread on the Queen’s Jubilee forum.

This is probably asking too much of ArenaNet. The Rainbow Jellyfish used to have almost, if not the exact, model as the Blue Jellyfish ranger pet. So after months, Jon Peters made a thread on the ranger forums asking the ranger community for feedback on the new appearance, attaching an image of the new Rainbow Jellyfish and stating the following:

I added an image for reference. It doesn’t really show it off in motion, but I’m not skilled enough to make an animated gif. I will say the new one is cooler looking IMO and does have a cool “glowy” membrane on its head.

source

I agreed to the changes assuming this “glowy” membrane was noticeable and more fitting to the “Rainbow Jellyfish.” But nope, it’s an exact copy of the Green Jellyfish which used to be in the beta weekends.

Wouldn’t be surprised if ArenaNet did something just as goofy to the Fellblade, possibly making it look worse. Just throwing this interesting piece of information out there.

New Fellblades?

i think i can see both sides of the story. for those of you “making a stand” against the seemingly identical reskin apart from enhanced effects, is it because you feel your efforts in gw2 and HOM points are wasted? if you have the OG Fellblade in gw2, NO ONE, i repeat, NO ONE can take that away from you. and if i want it, i’m going to have to go buy and play gw1, which probably won’t happen. <— not a complaint, i love that dedicated gw1 get special rewards! (esp the many titles you guys have as well)

i personally don’t feel that these “reskins” with purple glowy bits thrown on top in any way diminishes the Fellblade. i love that it’s seemingly so simple, yet so captivating. i’ve yet to see one in-game, and i would love to. but perhaps, that’s just me.

To answer your first question, in my personal opinion if they’re going to use the HoM weapon/armor models to make obtainable versions in GW2 they need to make sure the HoM armor skins don’t have annoying clipping issues that have been around since release and that the HoM weapon skins have the same amount of work put into them. I remember finishing up my Tyrian Vanquisher title back before GW2 even came out and picking up my first Fellblade at the Shiverpeak Mountains, it dropped without a inscription slot I believe but I still kept it for it’s aesthetic looks.

The blade itself had a shadowy cloud animation that flowed smoothly throughout the blade, it was also one of the largest swords in the game. The concept art shown in the HoM calculator depicts some sort of similar “glowy” animation that was poorly delivered, really lackluster when compared to the GW1 version. I barely notice the actual animation it has and the blade is to dull and damaged on top of that.. I wouldn’t mind how busted the blade looks as long as the animation was at least similar to how it was in GW1.

Now here comes a newer, improved version of the Fellblade that seems to have a more noticeable aura around it. I’m not against them adding flashy, tweaked versions of HoM weapons though since the Fiery Dragon Sword did have an opposite twin in GW1, the Icy Dragon Sword that’s known as “Jormag’s Breath” in GW2, but at least they had the decency to make the draconian hilts different for both of them in GW2. If they release 2 versions of the Diamond Aegis in GW2, like the Amber Aegis and the Iridescent Aegis I don’t think anyone would care because those shields actually existed in GW1. If they did that, however, they have to show as much love to those shields as they did the Diamond Aegis and vice versa, or else what’s the point of the HoM rewards when there’s cleaner, improved versions in GW2?

What’s the point of all that work for the HoM weapons if they’re going to be left behind visually compared to their GW2 counterparts? Why release a version of the Icelord’s Diadem that doesn’t clip when the HoM one is RUINED by most of the hairstyles from any gender and race in the game? Why do the pieces in the light HoM armor clip with each other slightly? That’s almost as bad as T3 cultural armor that clips on the intended races, it’s outrageous. Why do Sylvari get oversized shoulder pieces in the medium HoM set? Why are the shoulders of the heavy HoM set floating almost a foot off my Norn’s shoulder?

Also Jormag’s Breath existed in GW1 as the Icy Dragon Sword. Ofcourse nobody minds that the IDS made it into the game for GW2 players while the more iconic weapon of the prophecies campaign, the Fiery Dragon Sword, was placed in the HoM.

There’s no mention of those new pink fellblades anywhere in GW1. They could literally take the Living Shortbow which was the Dryad Bow in GW1, add different colors to the leaves, change the weapon to a longbow, and make it drop in GW2.

I’m ok with the new swords having the same model but different skin just as long as they don’t give the new swords the GW1 shadows moving over the blade. Then I would be mad. Cause that smoke around the Fellblade looks so much less cool. <give me back my shadows>

Look for yourself.

  • New swords that use the same model as the Fellblade, emphasis on SWORDS and not GREATSWORDS which may be good or bad depending on who you ask and how that person feels about the Fellblade’s transition from GW1 to GW2, some people would have preferred they stayed as one-handed swords in GW2.
  • In-game screenshot of the HoM Fellblade.
  • Concept art of the HoM Fellblade, proudly showing off much more prominent effects than it actually came with.

I for one can’t wait to see them in-game, good to know 50/50 and GWAMM came in handy. Also ArenaNet, go ahead and reskin the armor sets from the HoM. Maybe then the gloves on the light set won’t have nasty holes all over it with your hand clipping through it and the female greatcoat won’t clip with the leggings, fix the mask too and sell the new and improved version for 800 gems or something. Maybe you could grab the Heavenly Bracers, the Baroque Mask, and the Icelord’s Diadem and make them drop in-game without the clipping issues, especially the Icelord’s Diadem lol. Anyone with hair on their head clips with that. Maybe you could grab the Wayward Wand and instead of it being blue.. it could be green :o with red feathers that have a particle effect. How about an exact copy of the Diamond Aegis, but with a golden frame that sparkles and shines as you walk by!

Just saying lol, it’ll help you push content faster every 2 weeks.

The Fall of Abbadon

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Jovel.5706

Jovel.5706

I don’t think ArenaNet can handle a fractal like that. Most fractals are short and no lore/explanations are given to the players after completing them. This is the fall of Abaddon we’re talking about.

The 6th human god that lived in Arah with the humans. The god of secrets and water and the god who gave the gift of magic to all races in Tyria. The god that caused most of the first games problems (Shiro, the Lich and the fall of Orr, Nightfall, the Searing, the Guild Wars, etc).

If ArenaNet is planning on making a fractal out of the final mission in Guild Wars Nightfall, how will they include the Sunspears (and the player character him/herself)? Will they just lie and make it look like Kormir defeated Abaddon herself? Will ArenaNet allow us to defeat Abaddon again? If they do include the Sunspears, they’d have to redesign all the GW1 heroes from Nightfall for this one fractal.

Or if ArenaNet is planning on making a fractal out of the event where the gods fought and defeated Abaddon before imprisoning him in the Realm of Torment, what would be the point of that? The GODS fought Abaddon, not a bunch of mortals. Who will we fight in that fractal? Will it show the actual human gods fighting? If that’s the case then they would have to expose the appearances of all six gods which so far only their avatar forms have been seen by us, the players (an exception would be Kormir’s form at the end of Nightfall).

Sadly, the most realistic approach to this from ArenaNet would be turning it into another Zhaitan fight. Cute cutscenes of the big bad monster flying around and doing stuff before “slipping” into a state of vulnerability so you, the player, can hit #2 at the safety of a cannon that probably isn’t even aiming at the big bad monster. There weren’t any asuran cannons in Orr/Crystal Desert(Sea), how could they possibly make “The Fall of Abaddon” work?

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

I see lots of people love and adore the leaderboards and want both old players and new players to have a cuddly wubbly fair time chasing eachother for spots, why stop at the HoM points?

First people complained about the old daily achievement points and suggested ArenaNet to remove them completely, or at least put a cap on them.

Now people complain about the 50 point HoM achievements.

You know what? Are the Living Story achievements repeatable? Can someone who picks up the game 3 years from now come back and complete those achievements for points? No? No confirmation that those achievements will ever be completable in the future? OH WELL LOOK HERE I SEE SOMEONE BEING GREEDY AND GETTING AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE IN THE LEADERBOARDS!

I want fairness too and if people are willing to strip points away from others, expect them to want the same for you.

Remove HoM achievement points, put a cap on dailies, and remove all points that came from Living Story achievements. There’s your fairness, now everyone no matter when they started playing the game will have an equal chance of competing in the leaderboards.

In the future, let’s say 2 years from now, I bet there will be a flow of threads coming into the GW2 forums screaming for the removal of achievement points earned from the Living Story arcs, for the sake of having a fair leaderboard.

Why not take care of that issue early?

Because unique skins, unique pets, and unique titles were not enough, greedy goes beyond acceptable levels, what a shame.

Nobody asked ArenaNet to boost up the HoM achievement points to 50 points each, if someone did suggest so then I highly doubt the majority of people on the forums wanted those achievements to have 50 points, it’s all ArenaNet’s doing.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

Instead of crying, why not pick up GW1 and play it if those points matter so much to you?

People were crying hard because past daily achievements used to give 5 points each instead of 1, “DESTROYING THE LEADERBOARDS AND GIVING AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE TO THOSE WHO PLAYED LONGER!”

So I suggested with sarcasm that ArenaNet should remove the Hall of Monument AP since, in the end, it’ll give those played GW1 the top advantage and that ArenaNet remove the AP from the living story achievements since those have no confirmation of ever coming back, putting those who didn’t do them at a disadvantage in the leaderboards.

If you’re willing to take points away from people, expect them to do the same to you. Remove HoM/old Daily achievement points, do the same to Living Story achievement points since they too give disadvantages to those who didn’t do them when it comes to the leaderboards.

I disagree with the OP. Some achievements which take TONS of time and commitment are equally worth as daylies which I get in a few minutes.

Bad design.

Solution: Buff those achievements.

+1

The WvW achievements should be worth MUCH more than they are currently. Getting 250k kills is no joke. Completing any one of those WvW achievements is no where NEAR difficult, they’re insane. They need to buff them or make them easier. I vote for buffing as it makes those achievements something to really strive for and incredibly difficult.

250,000 kills in WvW gives you the title, “Ultimate Dominator.” That isn’t a good example to use because it gives you a title, thus giving you the proper reward you’re asking for, bragging rights that you’ve killed 250,000 people in WvW. Doing all the jumping puzzles in the game, killing 39 types of creatures 1,000 times each (including giants and oak hearts), dealing 5,000 killing blows with 20 weapon types each, spending the karma/coin to buy 100,000 drinks of alcohol and consuming them, and doing all of the explorer achievements (except for Dungeon Master, ofcourse) do not give titles.

Let’s also try “Legendary Collector.” It’s 5 ranks, 1 for each legendary. Legendary weapons can be bought, so giving that achievement an enormous boost in achievement points would be wrong because people would be able to buy themselves those points on top of the legendary weapon. Your reward for crafting/soul binding a legendary is the legendary weapon itself, not the +5 achievement points that it comes with.

But people can already do that, right? Banking 200 gold coins gives you the “Golden” title. It’s +10 per rank and shouldn’t be boosted because the reward here is a title, not the achievement points themselves.

Too long; didn’t read – Achievements with no legendary weapon, title, and/or prestigious limited time living story reward (mini horrik, fertiv censor, molten gauntlets, etc) tied to them should have higher achievement point reward than those who do.

Achivement Points.

If you want a chance to compete in the leaderboards and want achievements to matter, not dailies, then I’d be fine with that. But once people start completing ALL of the achievements in the game, by some hardcore dedication to WvW, sPvP, and PvE. That would mean that there’s a cap on the total amount of achievement points therefore the ranks will be determined by “who got there first” once people completed ALL of the achievements in the game.

Also what do you think of:

  • Hall of Monuments achievements in GW2 actually giving achievement points?
  • The decade long achievements from WvW?
  • The Living Story achievements without confirmation of coming back?

We’re talking about the leaderboards here, not the AP rewards. Should those be removed too for the sake of the poor, poor casuals who buy the game 26 years from now? I’m sure they would like to own all of your rewards in little time too and be first place in the leaderboards.

If you really care about someone getting a shiny before you or watching your buddies get less shinies than you at the start, you’re getting frustrated over nothing. Just because you quit for 4 months straight doesn’t mean ArenaNet should hold your hand so you can “catch up.” I’m totally fine with removing daily/monthly AP, Hall of Monument AP, and Living Story AP from the LEADERBOARDS but from being spent in-game for the rewards?

No, just no. One of the things in-game that doesn’t reward RNG and you want to chop everyone down so it’s “fair.” What about the people who lost a couple thousand points? I know some of you high-ranked folk want the LEADERBOARDS to be fair, but deleting points that net you cosmetic reward? Yeah, so game-breaking! A boost to magic find and gold find? Not like we have food buffs, gemstore boosts, armor stats, and trinkets with infusions that grant that stuff.

Achievement System - Mythbusting with Logic

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Jovel.5706

Achievement points the new currency!?

They can keep your overall achievement score as high as it once was with added points the further you collect, so if you had 11k points in the leaderboards and spend them all, but gain 200 more afterwards they could make it so that person now had 11,200 achievement points in the leaderboards while only having 200 SPENDABLE achievement points in his/her hero panel. Not highly unlikely and only time will tell how this system works (quite soon I believe) and I don’t care which system ArenaNet goes about spending the achievement points for rewards, I’ll still play the game unlike some folk who need the cosmetic chocolate-covered carrot on the end of the stick every month through achievements, did them for the hell of it before this and sure will continue to do them at my leisure.

I have 10,000+ achievement points, will I be able to unlock all the stuff with my pro points?

Agreed, crying on the forums is inevitable though as casual players will come out and point out their limited schedules = not as many achievement points earned = less rewards/less gold find/less magic find. Doesn’t make sense that ArenaNet would release all of the rewards for points that someone already has in the leaderboards, unless they plan to pull another HoM and give everyone all the goodie item rewards for the first easy points (30 HoM) and just titles for the large amouns of points (50 HoM). All I know crying will happen.

One time reward skins? HoM System?

Yep, though I’ve seen people suggest that they act just like the skins in the HoM rewards calculator. There’s some differences between how HoM points were earned and how achievement points were earned though..

  • The HoM rewards calculator was released when two of the three founders of ArenaNet were still intact, one left in 2009 and the other followed him out the door in 2010. The Eye of the North expansion came with the Hall of Monuments and everyone pretty much knew collecting stuff would mean a reward(s) in GW2, this was back in 2007. Don’t know if the new ArenaNet wants to roll with that kind of system again.
  • The HoM rewards required a campaign + Eye of the North + Guild Wars 2, so they made money. Making them as reusable skins forever with no new expansion/no gemstore item would mean they get no money = not likely to happen. So transmutation stones/crystals will probably have to be used. I mean, we’re talking about developers who pretty much say “you’re kittened” if you deleted gemstore items through deleting characters you don’t like anymore. Those are items you pay for, why would it be different for items you earned through the new AP system?

Daily and Monthly points shouldn’t count!

Agreed, PvE dailies alone would give 25 points a day. You can’t just quit and leave for 5-6 months then come back expecting to have the same achievement points as someone who played the game frequently since beta. People “trying to catch up” are just whining when they should be doing achievements.

Achievement points are not balanced at all across the different modes (PvE, s/tPvP, WvW)

I haven’t completed ALL of the achievements in the game and will probably never will since WvW achievement supposedly take like 8 years to complete and nobody has reached rank 80 in sPvP yet.. there’s also some PvE achievements like Giant Slayer when there’s only like 2-6 giants that count towards that achievement in the entire game and glitched achievements stuck at 82/83, cough cough.

But let’s say that all the achievement points in the game doesn’t earn you all the rewards, maybe that’s unintentional or something or maybe it is, who knows, but what will someone do in that situation if the new tier requires another 5,000 achievement points? Earn 5/9 a day from PvE dailies and 4 a day from sPvP dailies? You’d need a minimum of 384 days to a maximum of 555 days if you do both dailies every day.

If that’s the case the reward better be worth it lol, unlike the final 50 point HoM reward. It will probably take more than 555 days for me since I don’t complete both my sPvP and PvE dailies everyday and I’m fine with that, all I want to do it play the game.

Mesmer portal: a Liscence to Steal

in Mesmer

Posted by: Jovel.5706

Jovel.5706

I shelved my mesmer after the 50% damage nerf to confusion in WvW and after hearing about scepter buffs, I decided to take a peek before continuing on in sPvP on my necromancer.

What can I say about that portal skill, lol. You can:

  • Bypass boss mechanics in dungeons
  • Skip to other paths without having to restart the dungeon
  • Give entire servers a free ticket to a chest and an achievement from the bottom of the jumping puzzle to the top of the jumping puzzle
  • Portal bomb in WvW (Not necessarily a bad thing)
  • Place a portal, use a waypoint, then place the exit so you can others can go great distances, lately from the waypoint outside of the Aetherblade jumping puzzle to the chest itself

My image of the mesmer is a walking time machine. The fabled “Chronomancer” from Guild Wars: Utopia the GW1 campaign that was cancelled for Guild Wars 2’s development. Think about it, what are mesmers good for in PvE? Time Warp, portals, their evasion skill from the sword, pull from focus, feedback/null field, ethereal fields for chaos armor, reflect trait, definitely NOT for their conditions. You can speed up time, blur the space around you, travel between portals, use shatter skills, and summon phantasmal versions of yourself as well as exact copies of yourself, but your signature debuff, the condition that the mesmer is adept to using, is trash.

Taking the portal skill from the “Chronomancer” would be a another heavy hit but it will do more good than harm to the game. The only place I see portal being used as the developers intended is in WvW/sPvP with people confusing enemies by summoning clones, attacking, and leading the enemy on a wild goose chase as they teleport between portals for laughs.

I doubt the devs put portal into the game so they could teleport entire server populations to the end of a jumping puzzle that was released on that same day. I doubt the devs put portal into the game so that boss mechanics could be skipped.

A REAL MESMER has Hexes like panic, Migraine, Overload, etc. Notice how the mesmer class in GW1 loved causing single damage and AoE damage to players and monsters alike whenever they casted spells and used a little something called Health Degeneration while extending the cool down of skills if interupted and draining energy from foes.

TL;DR – You’re not a real mesmer, your signature condition which was released alongside with the mesmer profession called “Confusion” is too poor in PvE and beaten with the nerf stick in PvP. You’re a time machine on two legs (four if you’re a Charr) and I support the removal of the portal skill or the nerfing of it so that the only person, dungeon or not, that can use a portal is the mesmer itself. Unless you’re using the portal skill as shown in this video, you’re doing it wrong:

Aetherized Exotics Price Change

The average Guild Wars 2 account comes with 5 character slots. Back in the early days of 20s = 100 gems people bought all the bank tabs and character slots they needed, if they were smart. ;P

Currently I have 11 characters and 12 character slots. That’s 6g60s per reset if I keep all of my accounts on the platform with the chest and go to WvW to sell the shoulder pieces and just play sPvP, not leaving the platform. With 5 accounts that’ll be 3 gold.

No RNG was involved in getting those exotic shoulder pieces and they come with a superior rune of balthazar in them which is 14s in the TP right now, they also drop for any level character. If they were salvageable, that’s a potential 5 ectos and balthazar rune for free multiple times per account… for using a mesmer portal.

Yes, a mesmer portal.

Not only will the price for the rune decrease by alot, but it will hit ecto prices as well because all it takes to get up there is a simple mesmer portal instead of killing a world boss, which is just as easy, but still it’s a freaking mesmer portal trip for an exotic.

I can’t believe you people are complaining about this lol. Blame mesmer portals for this, not ArenaNet reducing the overly-generous price of 60s from an exotic shoulder piece for merchant vendors who should be broke as hell.

Why is CoF still in the game?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Jovel.5706

I agree OP.

I’ve heard of farming spots being nerfed in the open world that yield less gold per hour than from repeating the Citadel of Flame dungeon’s path 1. How does that make sense? ArenaNet is willing to trash farming spots that make less gold per hour than CoF yet they keep CoF untouched to this day. I’ve heard of some pretty lame THREATS made by CoF runners just to avoid the nerf bat too. They’re along the lines of, “If you nerf the CoF dungeon many people will quit and the economy will be destroyed.”

That. Is. Bullkitten.

ArenaNet is willing to develop all of these Living Story dungeons and discontinue them as temporary content yet they are unwilling to rework on the existing dungeons so that they can’t be complete in a mere 4 minutes. Are you kidding me? You can keep the rewards from CoF the same or even boost them up a little along with all the potential gold per hour from the other dungeons too, just increase the difficulty so that they can’t be completed in mere minutes by a group of overpowered PvE classes in berserker’s armor and fix the exploits/glitches that make them easier. Doesn’t matter if they focus on CoF they will move on to HotW and farm that dungeon to the ground afterwards.

Not only that, people still use mesmer portals and teleportation guns to switch paths in CoE and avoid the turret mechanic from the golem boss in CoE. ArenaNet still allows people to simply sneak past Kholer in AC, WHY? You can still avoid a boss in Arah. People still avoid Subject Alpha’s AoE by standing right under him or stacking together and in the middle of his AoE circles to avoid damage. Jumping into a hole in the wall in HotW path 1 will allow your party to DPS Ginva the Butcher down without a risk of party wipe, similar to how you could range down the Howling King in old AC path 1. Et cetera, Et cetera, Et cetera. I’m sure there’s plenty of other exploits/glitches I haven’t seen in dungeons.

Also, ArenaNet should provide “trash mobs” in dungeons with plenty of CC to keep parties from simply running past them without a care in the world and expand their leashes from their initial spawn points so that they don’t lose aggro a couple of seconds after running past them so they take the walk of shame back to where they spawned, it’s a dungeon, why should they have leashes in the first place? People kill the berserker mobs before the second room with Subject Alpha in CoE because they will follow you in there and provide problems while fighting Subject ALpha. People run past the gravelings in AC after the Spider Queen boss because they know those gravelings will just run back to the tunnel they spawned in.

It’s not like there’s any safe zones/towns of AFK players in dungeons like in the open world.

Why can t we wear town clothes in combat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jovel.5706

Jovel.5706

I agree with posts here when it comes to hiding your profession in WvW.

Your profession isn’t hidden in sPvP though nor is it in PvE.

I don’t think costumes or holiday headgear was allowed in GW1’s PvP areas :o so keeping town clothes, toy weapons, etc out of both sPvP and WvW areas would be nice for GW2 as well. But it doesn’t matter in PvE because 1) People can click on you and see what profession you are, 2) PvE mobs don’t care what profession you are, and 3) Toy weapons are costume brawl weapons so those wouldn’t work out in combat anyways.

I mean, look at it this way. If ArenaNet is letting people walk around with no helmets, no shoulder pieces, and no gloves then I’m sure they wouldn’t care if I wore a pair of reading glasses in combat or a witch hat. -_- Go ahead and check in-game, there’s little check boxes that allow those pieces to be hidden.

Spectacles were actual armor pieces in the first game! Crowns and Bandanas were also armor in GW1! Come now, if we have the option to walk around with our heads and hands exposed, why not allow us to wear just the head pieces of our town clothing, at least?

Wearing no helmet at all to a dangerous fight is more immersion-breaking than wearing a witch hat or a nice cap on your head. That’s all I have to say to you RP folks. There’s also new dragon wing back pieces that should be breaking your immersion, does that mean people should cease from wearing them? How about the many plush backpacks in the game?

Also I made a thread a while ago on Festival and Gemstore clothing storage may interest some of you

THese achievments are really achievments now.
I see that as a optional challenge, because personal Space and stuff is quite harder and funnier.
But you dont need it!!! There are plenty of others running from A to B achievements you get get for the Chest

Did you even read the OP’s post?

He’s not complaining about the difficulty of the achievements themselves, his concerns involve players logging out at the last bosses and coming back in order to get the Personal Space achievement by standing at the start, same for Frizz for the Faster Than Light achievement.

I’m all for hard achievements/titles, but not only is this cheating it’s forcing people to 4-man those bosses while 1 person cheats their way to an achievement/title that’s supposed to be challenging. I can see why it’s ruining the dungeon and I can see why people are cheating their way to these achievements, it’s a temporary dungeon with rumors going around that it may come back as a fractal, rumors that I’ve yet to see confirmed by a dev. Limited time with limited time achievements = desperate players resorting to cheating in order to get them. I’ve also searched for parties in GW2LFG and there’s lots of parties looking for experienced players going for those achievements, alot more than people who just want to run the kitten dungeon =\ and some of them threaten to kick players for messing up the run.

In my opinion, I would release achievements for these temporary dungeons based on completion of a HARD MODE. But ofcourse ArenaNet didn’t do their homework on what made GW1 a good game before making GW2.

Survey: Want Ascended Armors & Weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jovel.5706

Jovel.5706

So you can craft it, get it for karma, upgrade your current exotic stuff into ascended, etc.. and this is meant to soften the blow of ascended garbage ever being introduced in the first place?

I’m sorry, I really really REALLY am, but the whole point the ascended tier was introduced in the first place according to a blog post by ArenaNet on November 2012 was because the community felt exotic items were.. TOO EASY.. to acquire. That there was nothing to do after you got your shiny orange-named suit, cane, and earrings.

I mean, I’ve heard of people with over 1 million karma, lots of in-game gold to spend on gems, crafting materials, etc. Unless these “ascended upgrade stones” are heavy RNG-based, people will be swimming in them I can guarantee you that. Unless these ascended items cost enormous amounts of karma per piece people will be suited up in full ascended items by the end of the day. Unless these items require large amounts of fractal relics, laurels, globs of ectoplasm, etc.. it won’t fit your grindless utopia, OP.

“The grind is too much” and “I’m tired of exotic weapons/armor, please give us ascended” just don’t match OP. The whole reason the ascended tier was introduced in the first place was to provide more grind and bigger numbers for you guys from other MMORPGs. Want to see the quote?

“Our desire is to create a game that is more inclusive for hardcore and casual players alike, but we don’t want to overlook the basic need for players to feel like they are progressing and growing even after hitting max level. Adding item progression is a delicate process normally undertaken in an expansion, but we feel it’s important to strive to satisfy the basic needs of our players sooner rather than later.”

Linsey Murdock, https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/ 2nd paragraph.

After you’ve achieved full ascended gear. After you’ve gathered all the karma you need for ascended weapons and armors. After you’ve burnt yourself out from redoing those “special dynamic events” through Tyria. After all of this, what’s next? Another tier, this time colored with red letters? You guys dug the grave, now lie in it and stop complaining about “outrageous grind” because the whole point of ascended items was so you brainless hamsters could keep running the wheel. The amount of dungeon armor tokens for exotic dungeon armor was nerfed after release because people felt “the grind was too much” and now look, ascended gear.

/rant

TL;DR – Unless ascended armor and weapons are obtained through grinding, the people who complained in the first place will do so again until Anet caves in, again.

I can see the island south of Claw Island being a candidate for a new zone, but anything north of Southsun Cove and anything west of Lion’s Arch is crossing into the Dominion of Winds, that’s Tengu territory and I doubt ArenaNet is going to allow us in there as a part of the living story. It’s not impossible though, can’t remember where I read this but ArenaNet did say that they were going to add in the Crystal Desert, Ring of Fire island chain, and the Isles of Janthir as free content so expanding into the Dominion of Winds doesn’t sound too unlikely.. would probably shatter any speculation to having the Tengu as a playable race since the Dominion of Winds is the last Tengu-controlled city in the world.

There’s also a chunk of land brancing from Sparkfly Fen and east of Southsun Cove and another island south of that.. though it’s quite far away from Lion’s Arch and not that big once you compare it to Southsun Cove. Maybe ArenaNet’s making Claw Island an explorable area?

I too hold interest in crafting the Ministrel and instead of spending my gold on more dragon coffers and gems, I’m saving up for the precursor that’s currently alot cheaper than I realized the pretty harp would look lovely on my mesmer. Though I noticed that it doesn’t have effects as noticeable as the other, more popular, legendary weapons and it would be nice if they FIXED the issue where the little musical note effect happened more often and the sounds it made happened while it was wielded and used in battle as well, instead of only when it’s drawn.

But then I disagree with your disappointment, did you even preview the weapon before crafting it? There’s codes that people can paste in-game so that you could preview it as well as links to the actual weapon from people who own it for you to preview it. You went through all this work just to point out the aesthetic flaws of the weapon? That’s like the people with 50 points in the HoM rewards calculator going through all that hard work, getting the final title “Champion of the Gods”, and complaining that a title reward isn’t enough to justify the work for all 50 points, I fall in this boat myself and I agreed when people told me that I knew what I was getting from the start, so why complain once I finally had it?

Yeah, HoM is only available to GW1 players. And call me whatever you want, but I’d sort of rather it stayed that way. It’s our special place <3.
The idea is good, I definitely think the story should be replayable (I also think we should be able to play through the other paths that we didn’t choose, just so we can play them not so that they actually have an effect), but lets do it somewhere other than the HoM.

Yes, the teleportation stone seems to be only available to GW1 players :o ArenaNet should fix that, since the wiki says:

Kimmes the Historian traveled from Ascalon long ago to study the Hall of Monuments and the memories imbued therein. He discovered and restored long-dormant magics that enabled him to view the deeds of different adventurers who had traveled to the Eye over the years, and remains there to this day, waiting for a hero who he sees fit to inherit the artefacts once owned by the slayer of the Great Destroyer.

Kimmes the Historian

This implies that those who weren’t destined for the rewards were also able to visit the Eye of the North. Eventually that tower will be accessible to the public, since it’s deep in Icebrood territory and the Norn do want to take their Northern lands back from Jormag who lurks north from the Eye itself. It’s also fitting, can’t just toss out the pool’s “unexplained psychic properties” and replace it with more Asuran technology lol, this is an important point of interest in the first game that was used for visions, isn’t it the most fitting place for repeatable personal story missions?

The temporary content issue can easily be resolved by making it replayable in the same way Guild Wars Beyond missions from Hearts of the North could be replayed from the Scrying pool in the Eye of the North.

Though the new Living Story step is heavily tied to the Dragon Bash holiday.. I’d imagine this living story step might have to be replayable only during Dragon Bash by visiting some sort of NPC or memorial that’ll allow you to replay this content? Maybe Anet could implement a refugee/consortium NPC in Southsun Cove that “retells the tale” of the events from “Last Stand at Southsun” for those living story missions. There’s plenty of creative ways ArenaNet could go about making temporary content replayable again by new players.

I also agree with your complaint about achievements, they’re too easy. Most GW1 titles were time-consuming though, but they were definitely hard to achieve. Living story achievements seem to come with “complete x amount of achievements for this shiny pair of gloves and back pieces” so I tend to look at them as “holiday quests/tasks for holiday items” and not as real achievements. I prefer this instead of pressing O to open up the gemstore, double clicking on a pair of free Devil Horns and getting them immediately before logging out bored. Wouldn’t hurt them to toughen up the difficulty of these achievements and/or spreading us out in the open world to complete them like the scavenger hunt for the Mad Memoires: Complete Edition from Halloween.

Eye of the North, a gaze into the past?

Back in the original Guild Wars, the Eye of the North was a large tower of unknown origin that gave visions to the player character of the Great Destroyer. In the game we could walk up to the Scrying Pool located in the second chamber of the tower in order to replay story missions from Guild Wars Beyond and retake repeatable primary quests that were completed once by the player.

ArenaNet probably has plans tied with the EotN in GW2, probably when Jormag is the next elder dragon to deal with, but the Eye of the North is still accessible in-game. All you have to do is travel to Lion’s Arch, buy a HoM teleportation stone, and double click to visit it. The stone has unlimited charges and costs no money or karma to obtain, this is content that’s already in the game.

So I was thinking maybe ArenaNet could tie all of our Personal Story missions together as replayable content once we’re finished with the final step in our personal story. The Scrying Pool in GW2 may be flooded, but I’m sure it may still work

Too long, didn’t read – slap a “replay” option into the EotN in GW2 for all the personal story missions

Let’s imagine this.

You are playing on an alt character in Bloodtide Coast, which is the zone south of Lion’s Arch. You happen to be doing the heart quest that involves you protecting and reviving Priory medics as they tend to injured quaggans before they become enraged and go on a rampage. This is content that’s already in the game in a zone that’s considered “dead.”

All of a sudden, you hear a loud, familiar roar as Tequatl the Sunless clashes down on the mountain southeast of that beach and sets up minions on the coast surrounding Dredgehat Isle. A group event label pops up stating that Tequatl must be taken cared of or he will fly away to a new location and leave Dredgehat isle and the nearby beaches infested with Risen minions. The event fails because of the lack of people and Tequatl flies off to the Straits of Devastation and attacks Fort Trinity, or back to Sparkfly Fen to irritate the Hylek, and could even fly over to Lion’s Arch and attack the city.

If Tequatl is not dealt with in Lion’s Arch, he will remain there until the community drives him away and saves the city from Risen domination. At the moment, these world bosses can be zerged no problem with no chance of failure. The problem here is zergs, groups of people who can pretty much spam 1 to kill him with one hand while the other is used as a head rest before they fall asleep. So why not give these world bosses a zerg of their own?

Imagine Tequatl stationed at LA’s Bloodcoast Ward with hoards of Risen Abominations rushing into Fort Marriner blocking the WvW portals and dungeon token vendors. Now it’s personal, now if you want to spend your dungeon tokens or preview the armor or even use the waypoints surrounding Tequatl, you’re going to have to group up with your fellow community on The Gangplank and take care of this problem.

If world bosses worked like this, “dead” zones would be populated by people trying to find the bosses on their new locations and fighting them on their new locations. Let’s say that instead of in Blazeridge Steppes, the Shatterer spawns in the Iron Marches? Or the Claw of Jormag on Snowden Drifts? If the difficulty of these bosses were scaled up to deal with zergs, like veteran and champion karkas and their roll that used to devistate zergs when Southsun Cove was released in November, then these world bosses would be more entertaining to kill for their bonus chests and loot chests while still posing a threat and a chance for failure.

TL;DR -

  • Give world bosses a variety of randomized spawn locations within their respected regions (Fire Elemental and Great Jungle Wurm in the Tarnished Coast. Shadow Behemoth and the Champion Modniir Ulgoth in Kyrta. Tequalt the Sunless in Orr and parts of the Steamspur Mountains. The Claw of Jormag in the Shiverpeak Mountains. Etc.)
  • Give world bosses a zerg of their own to scale with the number of players attacking them or give them more potent anti-zerg mechanics to deal with groups of players.
  • Allow world bosses to fly in and attack popular cities and areas so they’re actually threatening. It doesn’t make sense that we’re having a Dragon Bash when the only dragons we’ve ever faced don’t actually pose a real threat to the main cities and come back to the same area to find 30 people grouped up with Black Lion Salvage Kits ready for use. The main cities are so huge perfect targets for angry world bosses looking for a fight.

You’re dishing out all this temporary content per month, why not focus on permanent changes that would improve world boss encounters and add a real sense of danger to these events?
