Not having Cantha in Guild Wars 2 is like not having the Charr race in Guild Wars 2.
This is an entire continent we’re talking about, an entire continent we didn’t get to explore fully because ArenaNet decided to dedicate their resources to developing Guild Wars 2 instead of expanding further south past the Jade Sea and Echovald Forest.
Not only that, but a continent rich in lore. NCSoft is willing to throw that away because of the opinions of kitten Asians? I’m sorry, but will NCSoft throw away Elona if a bunch of Africans wrote angry letters addressing the African cultures that inspired the creation of the Elonian continent?
I can respect ArenaNet’s decision to not focus on an expansion right now. I’d much rather they fix the current problems Guild Wars 2 has before throwing more into the pile with a new expansion. But all these rumors anger me every time they are brought up in-game through map chat. I HAD to post something in this thread, it’s getting to me.
I hope ArenaNet and NCSoft listen to fans of the first Guild Wars game, instead of hyped up band wagoners who bash on World of Warcraft because of the Pandaren race and give their useless opinions concerning a continent that was part of a campaign they never even played.
The Guild Wars universe has lots of interesting lore. I too have played the game for years and I found myself BROWSING the Guild Wars wiki for lore while waiting for GW2. I’ll even admit to eating dinner while reading articles on the freaking wiki, that’s how nerdy my obsession became with the lore.
You’re not the only one that feels that way OP. I would rant about the personal story of GW2 and the loose ends ArenaNet has left untouched from the first game and in the personal story. I like the content they released… the Flame and Frost dungeon was nice and reminded me of Sorrow’s Furnace/Sorrow’s Embrace. I can get pass the funny April Fool’s bits too, the Super Adventure Box was funny and fun it was an April Fool’s event after all and Guild Wars had them as well.
But this new Southsun Cove feels too random. Why am I in this island? Why is my character dedicating her time to even caring about the settlers that decided to sign their freedoms away to the Consortium? Do I even know any of the settlers personally?
Back in GW1 my character traveled out of Ascalon after spending 2 years in post-searing Ascalon because Prince Rurik was exiled by his father, King Adelbern, for accepting help from a Krytan. My character was in Rurik’s side and so we ventured to the Shiverpeak mountains where he died trying to guide Ascalonian refugees through the Frost Gate. Back in GW1 I traveled to the Crystal Desert to become ascended and to even SEE the freaking Mursaat. My GW1 Elonian character even had a friend, Koss, so ofcourse I was anxious to save him when he was captured by Kournans… he is the only hero that actually gets taken out of your party during that one mission until you save him.
When did my GW2 character care about the elder dragons? She just brings it up out of random to an order executive like, “Oh yeah I’ve always cared about the elder dragons and they should be dead, let me jump into your wagon and do chores for you until my partner dies 20 minutes later at Claw Island!” …Going to stop rambling now.
TL;DR – Why am I in this island and why should I care about the God Mode Sylvari that can only get hurt from mine traps?
You mean a tier higher than Ascended? It is possible. The whole reason ArenaNet added ascended gear was because the new playerbase demanded more content and complained that exotic rarity items were “too easy” to achieve in the game. So for the sake of vertical “character progression” they added a new tier of gear only 4 months after the release date of August 25/28.
I wouldn’t find it surprising if the current GW2 playerbase is composed of players mainly from other MMORPG’s and not fans of the first Guild Wars game. If ArenaNet released a new tier of gear with each expansion, I can guarantee that the left over GW1 veterans will drop the game and never, ever come back to it, myself included.
It’s bad enough that ascended gear made it into the game and that someday ascended armor is going to be introduced and I will have to spend real money/huge amounts of gold buying fine transmutation crystals from the gemstore to keep my favorite armor combinations to stay competitive against other players in WvW as well as in PvE dungeons, doing this every expansion.. I rather go back to GW1 and play it again and forget I was involved in GW2.
Just imagine it. “LFM COF PATH ! $$$$$MONEY RUN$$$$$ ASCENDED BERSERKR WARRIORS ONLY PING GEAR ON JOIN”
I guess if Anet wants to shoot themselves on the same wound they shot themselves back in November, releasing another tier of gear in an expansion would be the preferred way to do it.
Would be nice if the HoM items in GW2 were improved a bit, yes, like the Fell Blade. The GW1 Fell Blade had a much better animation while I barely notice the clouds on the GW2 Fell Blade, but that’s not what saddens me the most.
Who here has never encountered clipping issues with the Icelord’s Diadem?*
Who here has never encountered clipping issues with the Baroque Mask?*
Who here has never had their hands clip through the Heavenly Bracers?
*Doesn’t count if you made your character bald.
Why is the new skin for the Rainbow Jellyfish the same exact skin for the Green Jellyfish? It also used to be quite similar to the Blue Jellyfish. I replied to that thread on the ranger forums too, didn’t know we were getting a freaking Green Jellyfish instead of one that previously looked exactly like the Blue Jellyfish. Was expecting some kind of cool glowing animation that Jon Peters spoke of, but nope, it’s a freaking Green Jellyfish.
Also the Chimeric Prism looks.. bad, nothing like the GW1 version.
Alliances were in the first game and up to ten guilds that could join for the purpose of communication and player versus player.
I support this as well.
I would like to see in Costume makers GW2. Most people only buy a outfit a 2nd time with in-game money.
Add a Gem Store armor to the Costume maker too.
People actually buy the same outfit for multiple characters? Ouch :o
Also armor, weapon, and backpack skins are used in gear that helps in combat. Town clothing doesn’t help in combat and anyone with a regular tonic can win Costume Brawl. I’m talking about the Braham/Rox skins, the three armor skins in the gemstore, the Wintersday weapon skins, the multiple Charr and Quaggan plush backpacks, etc. Those are used on actual sets of armor, weapons, and backpieces that offer stats.
Unless town clothes come with rune slots or sigil slots, then town clothing should be the only items stored by these NPC’s. The only place I see that happening at is the Hall of Monuments, rewards that were earned through playing GW1 so ArenaNet didn’t lose revenue from putting them there.
At the moment, pieces of town clothing and toy weapons only cluster up bank spaces while providing no combat advantages, like they should be, totally different than entire sets of armor and weapons that are soulbound on the characters you used them on.
I like the gardening idea, could be used to make future Guild Halls and player houses prettier.
“This service was introduced during the Wintersday 2006 event to alleviate storage space problems since the collectible festival hats no longer needed permanent inventory space.”
(Festival Hat Maker link, under Trivia)
You’ve done this before only a year after the release of Guild Wars Prophecies, please consider this ArenaNet.
Before I start writing my suggestion, I’d like to post a few links to the Guild Wars wiki of the first game:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Festival_hat
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Festival_hat_maker
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Costume_maker
The Festival Hat Maker and Costume Maker in the first game kept track of all the festive and cash shop hats and clothing that you bought and earned throughout the years of playing the first game. All you had to do was show them an original copy of the item that could be duplicated as many times as you wanted on all characters for the small fee of 10 gold coins per piece. Gold back in GW1 was the equivalence to copper in GW2, so it was quite cheap to regenerate these items for whatever character you wanted.
Lately ArenaNet has been putting more and more of these items into the gemstore with no place to store them in but the account-wide bank, the Iron’s Tailpipe Bandana is also a piece of town headgear that’s soulbound on a character with nowhere to store but in your inventory.
The problem is that eventually as time passes by we’re going to run out of places to store these toys, costumes, and hats even with the maximum amount of tabs for the account-wide bank. Not only that, but people have been deleting their characters wearing discontinued costumes like the Witch’s Outfit, the Devil Horns, the Phantom’s Hood, the Mad King’s Outfit, the Fancy Winter Outfit, etc without knowing and not getting them back even after sending a ticket to support. These people may have spent REAL MONEY on these items and it’s a shame that the second game does not have that special storage NPC from the first game that kept cash shop and holiday items for you incase of accidents like these.
So my suggestion is to add these types of NPC’s into Guild Wars 2 to avoid bank tabs used solely for holiday hats and costumes and to help out the folks who delete characters wearing items from the cash shop. An exception to this would be armor, weapon, and backpack skins since those are used on actual weapons, armor, and back equipment.
Again, this is about choice! You have your’s and I’ll have mine. For every covered set, there should be a skimpy set. It’s called equality of choice. And, just to make a point, I’m going to run around LA in my undies now TY very much! Because again, it’s my prerogative.
btw… since people are listing they have Sylvari’s, you do realize they are a plant!
Both sides agree that there is an imbalance when it comes to sexy, skimpy armor and protective, elegant armor. Both sides just want a wider selection of armors to choose from so there’s some “equality of choice” as stated in your post. Scholar professions have a majority of skimpy robes with vestments that actually cover the skin being the minority. Medium armors are mostly trenchcoats, with some revealing sets. Heavy armors are heavy chunks of iron and steel with occasional sets that show cleavage, hip, abs, etc.
I think that’s the point of this thread. One side asking for more revealing sets while the other is asking for more classy, protective sets, though most are bashing on the armor scholar professions (mesmer, necro, ele) wear. Both sides want balance, with the ignorant minority showing disrespect for the opposing viewpoint and being completely oblivious of the protective/skimpy armor sets in their tier of armor like it doesn’t exist.
Also, for a couple of comments in this thread, nobody cares what you think. You’re a stranger. Are you honestly making assumptions about the personality of another stranger who you will probably never even take the time to meet anyways based on the type of armor they wear… in a FANTASY MMORPG… because you can see the underside of one of their breasts or their chiseled abs? If you’re losing respect for someone because they’re wearing something “too lewd” for a fantasy MMORPG and because they wouldn’t wear it to work then drop the game and take a break, it’s over, that’s when you know you’ve played too much internet and Facebook and you need a break. I could be wearing a banana suit to battle against Kralkatorrik, it will still be as viable as your CoF gear. Doesn’t matter how hard my banana suit offends you, I’m also pretty offended about your flaming armor that’s dyed Abyss black with the fractal donut attached to your back, doesn’t welcome me to put your choice of style down simply because I’m “offended.”
I see where you’re coming from Chopps, but selling the Hall of Monument rewards on the gemstore would do more harm than good to both ArenaNet and the playerbase.
It would be nice if ArenaNet started releasing prestigious, rare ranger pet skins into certain zones that take hard work and dedication to get, like the phoenix at the end of the Factions campaign in GW1, the rainbow phoenix for progressing in the “Kind of a Big Deal” title track, the black widow spider for finishing a quest in the Underworld, etc.
You’re not missing out on anything anyways, the HoM pets have the same stats as pets you can get in GW2.
I’m all for options. But I notice a double standard (women have tons of skimpy outfits, and very few normal ones. But men are mostly covered up, and have no sexy attire).
When I started playing GW2, I struggle immensely to find some light armor outfit that didn’t look absolutely horrible. If you don’t want to look like a lolita or a bikini model, the options are just very limited.
Knock yourself out, http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/
No need to exaggerate, hopefully that website will help you choose armor since you’re struggling immensely.
I wear some pretty skimpy light armor on my pretty mesmer while running dungeons and playing in WvW, but bringing back armors from GW1 wouldn’t hurt. In my opinion GW2 has something for all tastes in armor and that’s how it should remain. Want armor that actually covers and looks fitting for battle? Snag a Citadel of Flame armor or transmute Shadow Armor onto dungeon/crafted exotics, you could even grab some “dark armor” from karma merchants and transmute that as well. Want skimpy revealing dancer clothes? There’s plenty of mix and match options to meet those needs. Of course there are more choices than that but this is just an example.
Also, the statements; “women are objectified enough in fantasy, we don’t need ta do it in our MMOs too.” and “I think skimpy armor is degrading, and stupid.” Are NOT valid reasons to block a certain taste of armors from being developed in an MMORPG where hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions, of people play together and have the option to customize by using transmutation stones and crystals. You don’t like a certain style of armor? Don’t wear it. This goes for all males and females who find it degrading and “stupid” lol. Nobody’s holding a gun up to your head and screaming at you to wear what my mesmer is wearing, want examples of skimpy male armor too?
Pit Fighter armor, the “named” heavy exotic set, the light Twilight Arbor set, light Tactical armor, the craftable Feathered light armor set for the human males, etc.
Knowing ArenaNet, they’ll probably release new armor sets with each new expansion. I would love to see new skimpy armor sets from them as well as tough, reliable armors sets that actually cover the player character. The fact that GW2 allows you to choose what style you want your exotic armor to look like is enough to destroy the “this game objectifies and degrades women beyond belief!” arguement, go play Scarlet Blade by Aeriagames and compare it to GW2, you’ll change your mind immediately.
Hate is a strong word. I used to dislike that Trehearne character but after finishing my personal story on my mesmer, I finally realized why people disliked him and I felt sort of “meh” about the word “personal” in Personal Story.
He did take credit for some of the player character’s work and talks in a weird monotone voice, but what frustrated me the most was that this “personal story” Guild Wars 2 came with was not about my character, but of Trehearne and his Wyld Hunt. He completed his Wyld Hunt and everyone was nice and happy, Destiny’s Edge made up and had a little slumber party while the player character got to fire a cannon at Zhaitan, you know, spamming #2 and killing weak risen monsters and champion dragons and all that crazy nonsense. In fact the story makes more sense if you played on a Sylvari character. That way Trehearne doesn’t look like some random kitten character forced into your story at Claw Island.
He felt rushed, random, and the story was about him. The player character didn’t overcome any personal obstacles on his/her way to Orr, just “HEY MEET ME HERE SO WE CAN TALK AT FORT TRINITY LOL.” Back in Guild Wars Prophecies we had to do so much kitten just to SEE Mursaat, venture to inhabitable lands and finding out we were being played by the Vizier who blew up Orr, help out the Deldrimor dwarves during their civil war, fight the White Mantle, aid the Shining Blade, travel with Ascalonian refugees to Krytan with an exiled prince, etc.. what about Guild Wars 2? Do a couple of chores with an order NPC who will die in 20 minutes.. AND HERE COMES THE MAIN CHARACTER TREHEARNE!
Ontop of this Trehearne was friends with our order mentor, aided a female Largos, and earned a respectable reputation among all three orders and who knows what else. Are you kidding me? We should have just played as Trehearne, kitten. I wouldn’t be surprised if ArenaNet made Emperor Usoku and Trehearne BEST FRIENDS for the Canthan expansion, or best friends with Palawa Joko, lol.
Nevermind, I hate that treeman so much.
It’s been a while since I got a skin, 2 days ago I got a staff skin after like a week of running all three zones in world 1 on all 9 of my characters everyday. Funny thing too because I gifted a friend a staff skin before I got it back at the Super Adventure Box lol
I used to average 1-2 skins a day.. they definitely changed the drop rate. These skins aren’t returning so I can see why they would reduce the drop rate, Josh Foreman keeps saying that he wants these skins to be prestigious in the future too, now ontop of these skins becoming discontinued they rate at which they drop is even lower.
Thanks for this Jon, that jellyfish does look nicer even without the glowy animation you speak of. Can’t wait to see it in action!
I sort of agree with the negative comments on this thread though, changing the appearance of this pretty jellyfish won’t make the ranger anymore viable in dungeons, but it does look a lot nicer on that image, great job
Speaking of the old HoM, when will you folks be adding a final reward to the Hall of Monuments? ;P
Race: Norn
Gender: Female
Body preset: last one at the bottom right corner, thickest and most curvaceous
Profession: Thief/medium
As you can see, the medium vigil leggings clip right through the flap of leather on the tier 3 medium Norn vest. Also I’ve used a total makeover kit to see if my stomach clips through the tier 3 medium Norn vest with other body types and apparently the body preset I’m using is the only one with this issue, please fix it ArenaNet, I really like this body type and having an expensive piece of cultural armor clip on the race that it’s supposed to be worn on saddens me.
Also my living shortbow from the Hall of Monuments clips through the back piece of the tier 3 cultural armor vest as you can see on the second screenshot.
PS – Please, please, pleeeease fix the clipping issue going on in the stomach, as well as the vigil leggings clipping through the flap infront of the vest.
Invisible bags, invisible packs, and safe boxes.
Unless you’re planning on bringing 10 minipets with you those should be enough, miniature pets don’t disappear when you deposit your collectables.
If you feel unmotivated, leave and come back 2 years later.
You’re not paying a subscription fee, the game will still be here when you come back.
It’s all a game of chance, you might kill a champion out ikittenone and only get 1-2 gray junk items.
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Body preset: 2nd one at the top row
Profession: Light/Mesmer
The light shoulders from the Caudecus’ Manor dungeon and the vestments from Crucible of Eternity dungeon clip when I do the idle animation, can that be fixed?
I miss the /zrank emotes and other title-related emotes from GW1 that came with PvP titles
Are Asura not meant to wear town headgear? Was it disabled? For some time now, before the latest big update, I haven’t been able to wear my hat because there’s no checkbox there at all.
I’m sorry if I’m doing something wrong.
Eh, I don’t mind it that much. They spent 100 gold for it might as well wear it around like it’s 100 gold. Everyone knows that true commanders frequent WvW and actually know what they’re doing, if it shows. There’s no such thing as a PvE commander, that’s like calling yourself a firefighter space clown, last thing I need is someone managing a zerg in PvE completing events in 10 seconds.
I myself would have spent the 100 gold in more important things, but they have enough loose cash to throw around and it’s none of my business to tell them how to handle their money or their blue doritos.
Atleast the blue dorito is more noticable than freaking titles, remember Anet? One of the good reasons why GW1 stayed alive and had an economy? Nah, we don’t want GW2 being an exact copy of GW1 because of those pesky titles.
More achievement points and EXP.
People were complaining about being able to choose 5 out of a list of daily achievements, calling it a “grind.” What do you think will happen if ArenaNet rewards those with something other than achievement points and experience for doing all 9?
People will keep busting out the grind card and throw more personal insults at ArenaNet.
So nah, keep it the way it is.
The option to toggle between the current combat mode and this combat mode.
Norn fighting with Jormag? I don’t think so, not after Trehearne’s success with Zhaitan.
Obviously Trehearne and his Pact will be dealing with the ice elder dragon. In fact, Trehearne is probably speaking with Emperor Usoku in Cantha using his monotome charms to persuade him into allowing different races back into Cantha for the next expansion! That way when you meet the emperor, he can toss you aside and greet his good friend Trehearne c: so charming!
How could I forget though. Treehorn is also planning on destroying Kralkatorrik with 1,000,000 flesh golems since his necromancy powers far exceed those of the player character’s. Opening passage into Elona and killing Palawa Joko with you carrying all of his luggage because guess what, he’s the new King of Elona!
In all seriousness, there’s probably going to be a Norn version of Trehearne to tag along with so he can be known as the slayer of Jormag.
Yeah OP that’s right, the previous daily achievements could be done without breaking a sweat, you didn’t even noticed them while playing the game.
They rewarded you some EXP, Karma, Coin, and a potential item from the gemstore. Amazing right? They might as well throw Legendary weapons around for sitting in town and /dancing all day long.
Reviving dead NPC’s and players, harvesting nodes, doing events with other people causing your attacks to combo with eachother, crafting 10 items, killing different types of enemies.. oh wow soo hard and different than the previous requirements.
Guild Wars 2 is only grindy for the people who feel entitled to a Legendary weapon. They were designed to take years to make, at least a solid year of play time to gather up all the materials and requirements to craft them. But nowadays all you have to do is spend a few hundred at an illegal gold selling website to buy them straight off the TP. So Legendary.
Now we have all these babies crying because they didn’t get their precursors in 1-2 months of playtime, wow. That’s basically the only reason why Guild Wars 2 is “SUCH A GRINDFEST AMAGAWD I’M GETTING A REFUND ARENANET YOU SUCK!”
I mean, getting exotic armor and weapons from dungeons isn’t a grind. You need 1200 per armor set? Wow, I bet that will take YEARS to achieve, huh? lol. So there’s barely a gear grind, what could be making all these babies cry so kitten hard?
Brace for it.
Cosmetic progression.
You heard right. COSMETIC progression. Boo hoo I didn’t get an unbreakable choir bell! Booooo hooo I didn’t get a everlasting/endless tonic! Booooo hoooo I didn’t get a minipet! OH MY GOD THIS TITLE IS SOOOOOO HARD . No worries though, the babies who were crying about exotic gear being too easy are now getting Ascended gear to suck up before they’re covered head to toe in Ascended gear, in which they will continue to complain for a harder, brand new tier in the treadmill.
I agree with the OP 100%.
Come on now, titles kept the first Guild Wars pumping and alive BECAUSE they were a very noticable part of your player’s progression, it was actually cosmetic with simple bonuses like 3% salavage bonus per rank in the Wisdom title track and 3% lockpick retention per rank in the Treasure Hunter title track. It wasn’t the only thing that kept GW1 alive, but it gave people something to work towards while playing the game! Something to brag about towards your buddies as the announcement, “Player Name has achieved Legendary Master of the North, the gods have extended/blessed the world with their favor” pops up for all to see, also contributing to keep UW and FoW open.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Wisdom
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Treasure_Hunter
Now I barely notice them. I don’t care if they provide no bonus this time around, I don’t even care if emotes are no longer tied to PvP titles like in the first game.. but it would be really, really nice to be able to see titles in the same fashion as they were in the first time, that will atleast attract more desire for titles instead of keeping them tucked away and hidden.
I have 50/50 in the HoM and GWAMM as well, but this was before GW2 came out and titles weren’t available during the BWE’s and stress tests. If someone were to ask me if going back to the original, now-dead GW1 for those titles I would tell them to play till 30/50 in the HoM and ignore the rest because it’s simply not worth the effort and time, it’s just a hidden line of words nobody’s going to notice anyways.
I still don’t get the complaints, do people really expect to waste time and money to get the exotic and then, after 1 year playing, still be with the same gear?
Of course the game needs some kind of progression, such as raising lvl cap, adding new stuff, new gears, new set designs. I agree that Ascended gear came too soon and it should be even harder to get, but this such things are necessary, would you play i.e. GTA for a year straight knowing that you actually didn’t make any progress? I guess not.
I hate Blizzard and WoW soo much. They conditioned most of the MMO community into thinking they need these things when in fact they provide nothing. And i hate the fact that ANET gave into this pathetic mindset of a hamster wheel.
We played GW1 for 7 years. There was no stat progression.
I’ve never played WoW (Not to lie, played till lvl 10), a Gw1 is Gw1, Gw2 is Gw2, it’s in another era of mmo’s, it’s not a Gw1 remake, most people play games because the feeling of progression, but the trick is how they implement it.
None of us GW1 fans saw the November release of Ascended gear when we pre-purchased the game on April/March. We just foolishly assumed ArenaNet would keep it’s credibility and their manifesto true when we paid for the game months before it was released, followed it’s development for years, and continue to support the first game even before they spilled the beans on Guild Wars 2 back in 2007 after they released the Eye of the North expansion. How foolish, sorry about that. ;P We even went to their conventions to cheer them on as they worked on GW2 and faced NDA’s while testing the game for only 2-3 days a month to see if it really lived up to the hype.
But it is true, they could have avoided the immense firestorm of disapproval if they only stayed true to their word. They only wanted to bring back Spectral Agony, without the Mursaat ofcourse, so they just called it “Agony.” Ascended gear could have been just pink-named gear with an infusion slot.. but that would make them weaker than Exotics because of the lack of a Sigil slot for weapons and Rune slot for armor. Next best idea? Make Ascended gear better than exotics to please those new customers from other MMORPG’s that just plunged their greasy claws around GW2 and complained on the forums about there being no whacky-happy-fun-time hamster gear wheel that will be replaced every 2-3 months for “BIG HUGE NUMBURS XD.”
It’s all about that gear progression huh? Answer my question though. If this feeling of GEAR progression is so important to MMORPG’s and CORPG’s everywhere, what will you and the many carrot-lovers do once you’re blinged up on full ascended gear? Like, if they released ascended armor to Fractals in the March update, and you were covered head to toe in Ascended gear, what will you do? Ask them to make a new tier of gear to please your obsession? Honest question. Also, did coloring the letters of Ascended gear pink please your gear treadmill and progression disorder? What if Legendary and Exotic gear had infusion slots and the Ascended gear idea was scrapped before November, would your disorder still trouble you?
The oldest Margonite was the first one, Lord Jadoth, who was older than 1076 years. He continued to exist even though Abaddon was defeated and Kormir ascended into Godhood until you killed him at the Domain of Anguish.
Guild Wars 2 is only 250 years ahead of Guild Wars 1, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were still alive in Elona, maybe worshipping Kormir instead of Abaddon as a new power source?
I still don’t get the complaints, do people really expect to waste time and money to get the exotic and then, after 1 year playing, still be with the same gear?
Of course the game needs some kind of progression, such as raising lvl cap, adding new stuff, new gears, new set designs. I agree that Ascended gear came too soon and it should be even harder to get, but this such things are necessary, would you play i.e. GTA for a year straight knowing that you actually didn’t make any progress? I guess not.
They do not need to raise the level cap. Why, so players have more trait points to play with?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Attribute_points
ArenaNet placed quests you could do for extra attribute points without raising the level cap past 20. It can be done in the second game easily. Face it, leveling up past 80 is only for extra skill points. They could easily add personal story missions/quests in future expansions that give you trait points to spend.
Also, adding new types of enemies, conditions, etc could have been resolved by adding a slot to exotic/legendary weapons for infusions, they only boosted up the stats to please people who are so badly damaged by gear treadmills that they now need it in every MMORPG they play to even have fun, quite sad really.
Seriously, read: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
They wanted Ascended gear to provide resistance against “Agony” but the new community from other MMORPG’s obviously needed bigger carrots to flock to, they only added the extra stats on Ascended gear for that extra icing on the cake, which turned stale and sour quite quickly.
“By adding challenging new combat mechanics to end-game content and ways to mitigate those mechanics through gear progression for high-end players, we can add personal progression without making the game feel like an endless treadmill of gear that is just out of your reach.”
They wanted to bring back something similar to Spectral Agony and armor that could handle it. Increased stats is only there to provide players with more farming and grinding to get the best gear in what.. under two months? What will you do then, complain about gear progression AGAIN until they add stronger gear than Ascended?
The first Guild Wars allowed you to find an Ancient Seer, who battled against the Mursaat and found a way to tackle their SPECTRAL AGONY but lost the war anyways, so you could do a task for them so they could infuse your armor with spectral agony resistance.
This didn’t make your armor stronger, nor changed it’s name. It simply added a little word in the description saying it was infused, so you could wear it around Mursaat and decrease the devastating damage their Spectral Agony caused to you. Trust me, you need resistance against Spectral Agony, especially in that big fight in Lion’s Arch when it’s being invaded by Mursaat and the White Mantle in War in Kryta.
That’s. It.
First, allow me to show you this link to one of ArenaNet’s blogs with Lindsey Murdock introducing Ascended gear: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
Read it and you will find this: “Adding item progression is a delicate process normally undertaken in an expansion, but we feel it’s important to strive to satisfy the basic needs of our players sooner rather than later.”
They added pink-named items with better stats than exotics because ArenaNet’s new playerbase demanded something harder and stronger, they caved in and that made GW1 players angry. I mean, infused armor in GW1 didn’t have better stats, why should ascended gear? Ontop of this, people with Legendary weapons will receive a free upgrade so their shiny bubble guns, My Little Pony bows, and chrone hammers can remain the best-in-slot weaponry available in the game. How nice of them.
Back in October 2006, ArenaNet introduced inscriptions with the Nightfall campaign for Guild Wars. Inscriptions are like sigils and runes, they did not increase the damage of a weapon past Gold and Green rarity and it worked fine. Adding an inscription to your sword didn’t turn it’s name orange and increased it’s damage output from 15-22 to 22-31 while at the same time having the extra damage from a “Strength and Honor” inscription to sweeten the deal.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Inscription
So there’s your answer. Ascended weapons, jewelry, and armor NEED better stats because ArenaNet’s new playerbase demands it, and they shall receive. One has to wonder though, once everyone is pimped out in full Ascended weaponry and armor, what’s next? It hasn’t been a year and ArenaNet has already caved in. Maybe cyan-colored gear called “Champion” that provides immunity inside UW, FoW, Kormir’s Redeemed Realm? “Desolation” gear to walk on the sulfuric sands of the Desolation? lol
Maybe they’ll add new dynamic events with giants in the Jan/Feb updates?
Also what do Karka count for? They drop Karka SHELLS and junk item shells called “Spiral Shells” and the usual chunks of crab meat, why don’t they count towards the “Shell Slayer” achievement? I mean, I can go out and kill normal crabs for it I’m just pointing out something I found odd about the Karka and the Shell Slayer achievement. c:
Any news from ArenaNet on a final reward for getting all 50 points in the Hall of Monuments?
I logged in sometime around late November and noticed how empty the first Guild Wars has become, even Kamadan which was one of the busiest market areas in the game next to Lion’s Arch was a ghost town. But I’m logged into GW1 now and it’s hard to believe I’ve made it to the second NA district with people still buying and selling items! I’ve yet to venture into other zones outside of Kamadan though, since everyone got their precious 30/50 HoM and left forever I doubt there will be any steady source of favor to keep UW and FoW open, just checked and 17 achievements need to be maximized to earn the favor of the gods.
Back on topic though, has ArenaNet mentioned anything about the Hall of Monuments? If not, what would you guys want them to add to the calculator?
I do miss my precious, adorable Miniature Gwen Doll from April Fools’ Day. I think that would be a perfect little mini for 50/50 since the Gwen Doll skips around just like pre-searing Gwen and does her “catch a butterfly” animation every few seconds. Brings back memories of exploring pre-searing Ascalon with young Gwen following me around playing her flute to heal me with her catchy tune. Gwen was an important icon from the first Guild Wars too. You meet her in the first campaign and fight by her side in the last expansion, experience her getting married to Thackeray, and according to *Guild Wars: Beyond" you’re supposed to see her and Kieran Thackeray establish Ebonhawke. There was even extra purchasable content just to see what happened to her after the Searing, come on now, she’s not just average generic NPC slapped into the game.
In the description, it says that the Gwen Doll minipet is powered from the inside by one of Zinn’s magical micro golems. The real Gwen is dead, but what about her mini?
IT SHOULD STILL BE IN THE HALL OF MONUMENTS WHERE I AND MANY OTHERS DEDICATED HER!
It’s not too much to ask. Legendary weapons and items like the “Unbreakable Choir Bell” can be bought with real cash… 50/50 in the HoM CANNOT be bought with real money no matter how much anyone tries, it’s impossible. Sure buying ectos/platinum does help and will surely result in a visit from Dhuum, but buying all 50 points in the Hall of Monuments just like someone buying a Legendary weapon straight out of the Trading Post? Impossible.
The broom toy weapon for the Halloween Witch town clothing counts as a “mount” right?
They could implement different mounts through toy weapon skills that are no faster than a normal player.
I think the Temple of Ages in Kryta was destroyed for the purpose of not having to worry about designing them in the initial release of GW2, or even before expansions to Cantha and Elona.
Maybe the statues of the Gods are still in one piece in Cantha and Elona? But the Godslost Swamp in Queensdale has them underwater, destroyed and inactive. The scrolls that teleported you there are not sold anymore either. For the statues to grant you passage into those realms they needed favor, which is granted by maximizing titles.
They will probably implement UW and FoW when Cantha and/or Elona are accessible. Maybe not even then because the six human Gods have been silence for a while now. Those zones dropped Globs of Ectoplasm and Obsidian shards back in GW1 too, so if ArenaNet ever does pull a, “Oh look the Durmand Priory has found lost scrolls! Come buy some to explore these new dungeons/zones!” they’ll have to be expensive as hell and be able to kick you out of UW and FoW if you die, since ectos do drop from there.
B-BUT WHAT IF ECTOS NO LONGER DROP IN UW AND FOW?
I’d like to think ArenaNet still wants to be accurate with their historical bestiary and what they drop when they die :c sure Aatxes in Godslost Swamp don’t drop ectos but neither did the Dryders at the Realm of Torment, but the Dryders at the Spawning Pools in UW did.
A “Gamer” title for winning minigames during the holidays, like the GW1 title. There is already a title for Kegbrawl so that minigame does not count.
A “Drunkard” title for being intoxicated for 10,000 minutes like the original GW1 title before it was changed. Alcohol in GW2 is dirt cheap and no longer drops from holiday monsters/gifts/chests. If ArenaNet doesn’t want to go down that road again, then increase the amount of alcohol that should be consumed so it’s not super easy.
A “Skill Hunter” title for owning all utility skills, discovering all the weapon skills, unlocking all elite skills, and completing all skill points throughout the continent of Tyria.
A “Party Animal” title for using tonics and winning matches in Costume Brawl.
A “Survivor” title for achieving a certain amount of EXP before death, being downed does not reset the amount of EXP.
A “Sweet Tooth” title for consuming desserts and snacks.
A “King of the Feast” title for consuming meals and soups.
Different personal story titles depending on your rank during your personal story, why are you called a “Slayer” or “Savant” or the “Hero of Shaemoor?” During Nightfall you earned titles through killing the monsters between zones and were rewarded points that counted for the Lightbringer and Sunspear title tracks for completing missions and quests as well. The Sunspear title was even required to accept a mission in Nightfall.
A “Wisdom” title for all the level 68 or higher weapons, armor, and jewelry of RARE and EXOTIC rarity the player has salvaged with any kit. Obviously it is the player’s loss if they decide to salvage such items with cheap kits for no Globs of Ectoplasm and sigils/runes.
A “Treasure Hunter” for the dungeon chests, jumping puzzle chests, and reward chests for Tequatl the Sunless, The Shatterer, and The Claw of Jormag the player has successfully opened.
In the end, it’s always ArenaNet’s choice. They can change the requirements, names of the title tracks, and titles themselves but these titles could fit into the second game just as they did in the first, would be nice to have them around again.
Why is everyone complaining about a virtual musical instrument? It doesn’t help you with combat nor is there any achievements or titles tied to playing the choir bell or the choir bell minigame. If you want the bell so badly then buy the regular bells. Buy like 2 stacks of them because honestly, how many of you will stop at a city and play it more than 500 times for 2 minutes?
If you want more musical instruments then suggest them. Give ArenaNet new ideas for new instruments. Pretty sure they’ll be consumables though, with everlasting/endless versions that will be hard to get BUT that was always the case even in GW1. Everlasting tonics were always rare.
I also see it didn’t take long before someone brought up the miniature Polar Bear from GW1, did ArenaNet ever raise the drop rate on that miniature pet even though there’s been people whining about it for years? No? Same with the unbreakable bell.
Just think about it. If this was GW1 you all would be crying about a polar bear minipet. Also avoiding grenches and snowmen then staying at some corner while NPC’s killed eachother and left you a chest wasn’t fun, so don’t sit there and tell me clicking on 20,000 gifts is different. You get the gifts from killing monsters, PvP, doing a jumping puzzle, playing a musical minigame, etc… if there was such a thing in GW1 that still yielded a miniature Polar Bear then I would be happy. So this system is infact better than doing a minidungeon solo.. risking death and starting over from the beginning with NO WAYPOINTS anywhere in the dungeon.. for a 0.02% drop rate on a polar bear… or was it 0.002%? The developers never told us how low it was, but confirmed the estimates were rather close.
1. Tengu
Make it part of the Canthan expansion and their starting area at the Dominion of Winds.
2. Stone Dwarf
When ArenaNet finally gets around to making Primordus the next Elder Dragon to fight against, they should introduce the Dwarven race with the effects of the Great Dwarf transformation. Make underground cities made out of stone for them, or better yet, make them occupy the old Asuran cities underground!
3. Margonite
With the defeat of Abaddon, what happened to the Margonite race? Even the Realm of Torment became “redeemed” by Kormir, what happened to them? They are immortal, cannot breed and fornicate, and even in GW1 they were capable of individual thinking. So what happened to them?
ArenaNet should place them under the rule and leadership of Kormir, with the “hostile” Margonites still worshipping Abaddon’s ways and ideals, the equivalence of the Nightmare Court, Inquest, Sons of Svanir, etc. Margonites now live under constant assault by Palawa Joko’s forces and must cleanse Elona off the undead scourge that has plagued it for so long. The fate of Elona is now in the hands of Kormir’s new Order of Sunspears mainly composed of Margonites and the minority being from the other races.
Their starting zone should be inside Kormir’s Redeemed Realm itself, with a portal connecting Fahranur, The First City in Istan and the Margonite main city in the Redeemed Realm together.

Would be nice to release armors like what OP provided in the Canthan expansion.
Don’t see skins like those originating from Tyria at all.
Karma is already account-wide, it’s the jugs you get from doing daily achievements.
Making ALL karma account-wide wouldn’t make sense because your level 4 necromancer didn’t earn karma from doing events at Frostgorge Sound. The NPC’s at Frostgorge don’t know who your level 4 necromancer is so the karma should only be spendable on the character who is known by them and helped around the area.
Guild Wars 2 went from *"our endgame starts at level 1!" to “come get clustered up in Lion’s Arch to farm Fractals for money and pink Ascended items!”
They only keep nerfing farming spots in the game world. Geez, how will I make money? Playing the Trading Post and controlling markets? Nah, don’t have much experience in flipping 1 gold into 400 gold and buying anything I please from ArenaNet’s gemstore. Playing the game? Nah, I can just run AC/Fractals 24/7 and get good money running passed-around builds from the forums with pugs and guild mates. Forget the outside world.
Harathi Hinterlands? Kessex Hills? Brisband Wildlands? Fireheart Rise? Bloodtide Coast?
Nah. I’ll just look at my Dragon Timer and see when to visit the three BIGMCHUGE DRAGONS for a chance at the precursor weapons. I rather not kill champions in random dynamic events for 1-2 junk gray-colored items or kill bosses from meta events to get blues and greens. Not like I can do them anyways, hahah, mid-high zones with no BIGMCHUGE DRAGONS are dead.
Fractal Wars 2 is the way to go. That or play the TP.
You bought an RNG chest and received a prize. Three Mystery Tonics? An Endless Mystery Tonic? A minipet? A karma boost? All prizes. You bought a chance box and received a random product.
You didn’t place your money on the table, lose, and receive nothing. You paid money for a box of chance and got a prize. People’s complaints are that they didn’t win what they wanted.
Imagine if everyone who played the lotto did that. “Boohoo I didn’t win 34 million dollars!”
Atleast they put the weapon skins in the cash shop like people asked AND allowed in-game Wintersday weapon skins to be rewarded through in-game methods, or purchasable through the Trading Post for a cheap price dictated by the players themselves.
Atleast they allowed you to get 2 of the 5 Wintersday minipets for free. The first Guild Wars didn’t even sell pets or add any new ones for Wintersday, only the EXTREMELY rare miniature Polar Bear that was also an RNG item in-game.
I don’t like the RNG boxes so I don’t buy them. I don’t spend my real cash on them. Sure if I get a Black Lion Key drop or one from the personal story I’ll use it during the Holidays but that’s it. You don’t have to buy the RNG boxes either, nobody is forcing you but yourself. Want a baby Quaggan? A snowman pet? Risk it or do the smart thing and don’t get involved with RNG items. It is not gambling, you still receive a prize so it is perfectly legal. Those miniatures do not help in combat nor do they give the player any advantages so what’s the problem?
If ArenaNet placed them in the cash shop by themselves, sure I’ll buy them with real cash, but ArenaNet obviously wanted Festivoo the Quaggan and the other RNG minipets to be rare and prestigious, so they placed it into RNG chests. You can still buy the Doll, Griffon, Golem, etc straight from the gemstore while having all the endless Wintersday tonics.
TL;DR: It’s not gambling.
Seems I got off the bandwagon quick enough, the prices jumped from 10c to what they are now pretty quickly haha
Back to farming 10k personalized gifts from events for 1 choir bell that never breaks, maybe.
Minipets don’t provide any combat bonuses so I’m happy with getting 2 for free from the event ArenaNet has already given weapon skins that can be rewarded through the in-game presents, that wizard hat everyone was crying about, and a wonderful holiday event that tops any I’ve experienced for Christmas in other MMORPG’s.
Back in GW1 you were EXTREMELY lucky to have a miniature Polar Bear drop, with an estimated 0.02% drop rate from a chest you’d have to get to alone. So there’s no need to complain, atleast they aren’t putting all the Tixx minipets into RNG chests and now people can buy the holiday weapon skins from the gemstore as requested. Some people have to learn to chill, I’ve seen people complain that there’s only 1 set of town clothes this time around and that ArenaNet doesn’t care about them, lol. I can imagine these same people crying that ArenaNet doesn’t care about them simply because the Christmas hat that is currently in the gemstore is “too long” and not expensive enough or some kitten.
Already made up my mind on which ones I want, if I want the other three I’ll just buy them.
I would like the makeover kits to provide a name change too.
I mean why would ArenaNet allow us to change our female characters into male characters and vice versa with no name change? It’s pretty awkward running around as a large, muscular, meathulk bald male Norn with the name, “Bubblegum Queen.”
I loved the Hall of Monuments back in the first Guild Wars. You could dedicate prestigious weapon skins, elite armor skins, titles and achievements, minipets, and statues of the heroes with upgraded armors.
I would like that in GW2. It made people interested in titles, owning minipets, weapons, armors, etc. So why not? Currently titles are worthless and don’t have any prestigious value. You have to click on someone in order to see their title, which is a big downgrade from the first game. Adding something like this would make it fun to own titles while at the same time provide different statues for your house/home instance.
Also they should make an NPC that’s a straight descendant of Kimmes the Historian :P that way you can toggle your character and account achievements on and off. So if you dedicate weapons, armor, minipets, titles, etc to your home instance on.. let’s say.. your level 80 Necromancer character, you could simply talk to this NPC to also show the achievements for your level 80 Mesmer character AND your level 55 Ranger without tempering with personal story NPC’s. So all of your minipets, weapons, armors, etc will be displayed account-wide or character-wise depending on what you want.
Also the Hall of Monuments is still standing in GW2 :P just saying lol. Why not make some sort of “portal room” in your home instance for portals leading to different places around the world? Like to your order’s headquarters, to different big cities, and to the HoM itself? Make it so that each portal needs a “key” to be activated and make Mystic Forge recipes of each key. Ofcourse the Hall of Monuments key should use the HoM teleportation stone, or the key itself should just be the teleportation stone alone. Each home instance is visited at like level 2-3 and characters do spawn with the HoM stone so people will still get their Hall of Monument rewards after completing the tutorial zones.
It’d be nice to include the GW2 Hall of Monuments just incase space becomes an issue. Some home instances are bigger than others, so it’d be wise to use the Eye of the North instance as an extra home linked to your home instance that can be repaired through services from housing NPC’s, unless you guys want to keep that hole on the floor as a pool and the hole in the side as a window to see Jormag
