Yes, after how many pages of people posting the same pointless irrelevant arguments I finally got aggressive. Sue me.
And yes, I personally would be perfectly fine with stripping out WvW ranks. Would other people be happy about it? Some would, some wouldn’t. I have no idea where the divide would be. I’m not arguing for it. But that’s also irrelevant to this discussion. The main reason WvW players have an issue with ascended gear in the game mode is because some of the pieces can only be obtained from specific PvE content. Your ranks question is a different issue altogether, best suited for another thread.
Since their issue is with certain pieces being in PvE, then the problem isn’t ascended but the players that don’t want to do PvE to get that stuff.
That is entirely your problem if you do not wish to do the content that has the stuff that you would like.
There is no reason to penalize me for doing the content to get the gear just because you people don’t want to do PvE.
The thing is that from the beginning Anet has been saying that you don’t need to do things that you don’t enjoy to get all the good stuff. Play the game how you want and you will be able to get the same things as everyone else. The way ascended is implemented at the moment contradicts all of that and it wasn’t needed to begin with. Now we are stuck with something we didn’t want and that n one needed.

WvW ranks don’t give any advantge over other players in combat unless siege is involve.
Even though I don’t agree with a lot of what the OP said. Reducing the amount of people on the maps might be the only way to get a better distribution of players across all servers and reduce the load on their crappy servers. Add free world tranfers to servers of lower ranks (not Pop.) could fix several problems that plague WvW. I also support his suggestion about the commander tag options.
The fact is that no matter how you look at it, the guy wearing ascended has a statistical advantage over the the guy that is wearing exotic. Math does not lie! Sure there are many variables when it comes to WvW battles and there are player skill levels to take into account but an increase in stats always has an effect on the outcome of the battle. It might not be easily measurable among all the other imbalances in WvW but it does have an effect. Cause the math does not lie. To those of you saying that you get tons of kills from playing with an up leveled toon, good for you. I have never been beaten by an up level, EVER!! If you are lvl 80 wearing yellows I will crush you unless you are a very very good player. Makes we wonder what kind of baddies you are playing against. However, I don’t think Ascended should be removed from WvW, I think it should have never been added to the game to begin with but that is another topic all together.

Cause they want you to buy them on the gem store just like every other cool thing that should be an in game reward.
Just like everything Anet has implemented, the execution of it is done very poorly. First the let free tranfers go on for way too long allowing all the guilds to jump from Teir 1 to T8 and ROLF stomp all their way back to T1. They tried fixing it by closing free transfers and allowing free tranfers back to medium/low pop servers but who would want to transfer back down when the new updated matchup system pits you against servers 6 or 7 ranks higher than yours. Then they bring out seasons and someone has the great idea of announcing that you rewards for participation will be determined by how well you server performs weeks in advance. What the hell did you think that was going to do Anet? A ton of people moved from lower tier to the top 3 and some servers began losing on purpose to lower their scores to be in top of Silver instead of bottom of Gold league.

I completely quit playing after crafting my first ascended weapon and realized I had 9 more to go knowing that ascended armor is coming soon. This is not the kind of game I want to play. Sucks that it took me 1500hrs to figure it out, had I known it would have come to this I would not have bothered creating an account. I’ve never been a big MMO fan because of kitten like this (and my obsession with having BiS), which is why I bought into GW2 in the first place. Maybe when they add more ways of obtaining them I will start playing again or maybe ESO will suit me better (huge Elder Scrolls fan). Until then I’ll play all my other single player games that I have neglected over the past year.
The problem with the ascended gear is that you are forced to play content that you have no interest in to get it. It takes 5 days to make 1 ascended weapon. If you can only play 3 days a week for a 2 or 3 hour session then it would take 2 weeks to make that weapon and those playing sessions are reduced to doing the mandatory dungeon runs (cause that is the best source of Empyreals) and the meta bosses (best source for dragonite) cause that is the time it takes to gather all the mats for 1 crafting session. For a WvW fan it really sucks cause it takes time away from what they enjoy most. If you were to gather you materials solely in WvW it would take you over a month to gather all the mats at 2-3 hours 3 or 4 times a week. It’s not about being lazy or unwilling, it’s about how time gating account bound items hurt the people who can’t log in for a few hours every day. Even if you could play for 12 hours strait on saturdays it would take you 9 weeks to make 1 weapons. How can people not see a problem with this design? With ascended armor coming soon I can see why people are unhappy about it.
but why does that have to be a problem? why is it so bad to choose to spend 1 month playing something you enjoy to get an ascended weapon over a week of something you dont enjoy? its not like in those 3 extra weeks you’ll spend playing the stuff you enjoy you’ll be unable to compete with the players who took the short cut if we want to call it that.
That’s over a month for 1 weapon, I have 5 weapons for 3 builds I use in WvW only on my main. I have 3 alts with 2 builds each, 5 more weapons. It would take a year to get BiS weapons only playing the part of the game that I enjoy. That’s just the weapons, add in the armor, 9 sets, and you have an endless gear grind. It also kills the fun out of experimenting with new builds cause who wants to go through the trouble of inventing a new build that won’t have BiS for months?

Agreed 0/10/30/0/30 is probably the best hammer trait set up. I got a 0/10/30/0/30 Hammer/Sw-SH build with a mix of kinghts pvt armor (melandru runes) with cavalier/zerker trinkets. Very tough, great in small groups or zergs, very strong burst damage, decent mobility. Not so great 1v1 against certain classes with certain builds. I swap shield for warhorn so that the lemmings can keep up (why can they trait their own movement speed?) but once I get close to the fight I switch back to shield.
I used to think the same as the OP but I don’t like the direction Anet has taken with the game in the last few months so I quit. There is no denying it, GW2 is a great game, it just isn’t fun for me anymore with all the time gating, class imbalance, awful WvW server imbalance (WvW seasons isn’t going to change that), bi-weekly AP grind through LS. I love the new Teq, but hate the cluster kitten that is required to assemble enough people to clear him and the waiting in Sparkfly Fen for an hour until he spawns.
Like I said, the game is great , but it’s all the little things that annoy and add up that are causing people to QQ. I wish that Anet spent less time adding new buggy content and fix the buggy content we already have. There are some annoying bugs that have been there as far back as November (I’m sure some go back since launch).
Don’t like the queues? move to a low pop server.
I’m of the “best way is to not implement it at all” camp If they do I hope it has zero stat increase with infusion slots only and new skins. I have 7 different builds for WvW on my main and 3 alts. I hate the idea of grinding and farming mats to gear up all the builds. Then the thought of Anet rebalancing stuff, changing the meta rendering some of those said builds ineffective and having to farm and grind more gear out just adds to my distaste of ascended armor. I hate the idea so much I pretty much quit the game for the time being. Haven’t touched it in 3 weeks and when I do get the urge to play I log on, see what I need to make the weapons alone and say “the hell with this kitten” and log back off.
The LS is the expansion. Instead of releasing everything in one installment they do it little by little, gradually changing the face of Tyria with more content (and eventually new zones, races, stories). That’s what they keep saying and repeating to everyone but I guess most of these posters can’t seem to wrap their head around that concept.
The problem isn’t really the pop imbalance but the match up system which creating ridiculously unbalanced match ups. T1 vsT3 or T5vT8 is not a fun fight for either the strongest or the weakest.
I get what Anet tried to do but it is a HUGE FAIL. Sure we were tired of fighting the same servers over and over again but the way the match ups work now is completely ridiculous. They got rid of a problem but created one that is even worse. It kittening sucks. Most players don’t give 2 kittens about the rank, they want a fun fight, not this camp or be camped bullkitten.
Yeah Anet, plz no more tedious kittening pumpkin carving, or snowman building, or paper dragon activities nobody enjoys doing those.
Finger killing squad is a must – maybe 4 people need to stay behind and down as many fingers as they can. It lessens the poison on the field during stun. People also need to not leave their kittening turrets!
When I man a turret I usually turn around and buff the mega-laser defenders in the defense phase.

Shout warriors pretty much only excel at zerging but since the buff to the warriors we have so much build diversity now that shout builds seem kind of meh. Still, most Commanders I know run PVT soldier rune healing shouts. Banners are great for defending lord rooms and camps.

Impossible to answer. Our guild prefers overflows over main servers, so overflows are a good thing.
Agreed, we deliberately seek out overflows by guest to a high pop server to get thrown in one. Then we taxi everyone in.
We’ve down him a couple times now and we dedicate the north turrets to spamming 1 and 2 on teq (if the southern most one can reach the zerg with 3 all the better) South turrets spam 345 (2 and 1 when everything else is on CD). For his stunned phase, zerg uses Ogre Whistles and elemental powders just before he gets stunned, turret spam 1 on teq and 4 on zerg, mesmers put as many timewarps as they can and watch his health melt away. Those sylvari seed pod turrets are great for turret defense, everyone assigned to that task should be using them.
The only things I really want out of Teq is the mini and the Teq weapon skin. Would bve nice if you were guaranteed and exotic once per day for all the trouble you go through to organize. It’s takes a solid hour to taxi everyone to the same map. I could make 10g and buy a couple exotics in that time doing other stuff.

I would like to see an instanced Teq like the one we have now, maybe even a little harder and a dumbed down version for open world with fewer rewards (no mini or teq skins) for puggers.
Our guild has decided that we will be doing Teq at least once a week. There will always be new people looking looking to get a kill or achievements.
If you say so. I am certainly not going to wish failure on you. Just trying to be realistic. I would actually be interested to hear how that goes for you in the long run.
It could go either way, in the long run who knows what will happen. I prefer the optimistic outlook on things. Out of 400+ members, I am sure we can rally 100 once a week to kill him.
I’ve used both, atm the prefer Melandru cause it makes me almost immune to CC. Lyssa is great for short burst in WvW and give you higher crit chance. I used to use it with SoS. Pop SoR just before diving into the mess to get all the boons, burst as much as I can, then SoS and high tail of it. Fight around the outside a little until CD and repeat.
For puggers yes, they will completely abandon this event but there are several multiserver guilds being assembled to do this content people will still be doing this.
Countdown until deadness of said guilds? Anet can not turn out events like this fast enough too satiate such players.

The answer to enjoying Teq is joining or or creating and guild focused on killing him (and future revamped world bosses). In it’s current state, Teq is impossible to do with 100 random pugs. You need to be a well organized Teq killing machine or you fail. I would like to see this instanced, no more waiting for a spawn timer. I would the instance keeping Teq as is (maybe even upping the difficulty a little) for those Guilds and have a dumbed down version for open world with reduce rewards (no chance of Teq weapon skin or mini).
After the initial anger and frustration with Teq I got my first skill by guesting to SBI (I thank them very much for their hospitality)and was blown away by how much fun it was. Then I joined the Tequatl Terror Squad (TTS)to be part of an organized group of people that will run this on a regular basis. We spent over an hour searching for an empty overflow and getting everyone in to beat him. Teq is a logistical nightmare and I hope they think of something to make it easier for everyone to get together on the same map.

This is a hammer spec, 25% to disabled is hammer only trait and teq is not going to be disabled. Probably better off taking stick and move (3% but it’s a minor for berserker’s power so w/e), berserker’s power (15%), attack of opportunity (10%), desperate power (20%) if you’re just trying to stack modifiers. Then compare axe w/dual wield (5%) (not axe mastery as this is crits only) to greatsword slashing power (10%). Would also be curious what crack shot hitting at least both claws and running the nonweapon specific mods would be like.
Other spots in strength and arms you can fill in with great fortitude and furious reaction for more vit and vigor and if you have desperate power, you could go 15 in that tree to have the revive speed minor trait, only place in game i could see it being useful :P
That’s why I said with some modifications. At the moment I have been going with 30-0-0-30-10 full PTV with Hoelbrak runes. If I can squeeze more hurt by stacking modifiers I will.

The only thing Anet needs to make easier is logistics. Trying to get together with an organized group on the same map is a big cluster kitten.
I got on yesterday afternoon and there was 6 people in Sparkfly. I’m not going to waste my time to try a rally a server that clearly doesn’t not want to do the content. I guested to SBI and squatted their map (for which I thank them immensely) for 4.5 hours until we got a kill. I’ve had my fill of Teq. 5 days of nothing but camping Sparkfly just to fail over and over again is not something I want to repeat. I see some people banding together from different servers to form Teq killing guilds. I’ll probably join one of those once the hype dies down and all the lazies looking for a free ride move to other content.

Some people want casual content. And it’s frustrating to them when people are actually taking it away.
There is tons of casual content for casuals to play. Now we have difficult content for more serious players which is still available to casuals if they are willing to listen to instructions, modify their builds, spend 1 silver on a WP when dead, and spend a few more silver for some food buffs.
They aren’t willing. They are afk or they refuse to listen and that’s nothing you can do anything about. This isn’t an RTS, it’s an MMO. You can’t control what others do and don’t and that’s why raid content is instanced in every other game.
That is true, but those people who are unwilling will eventually migrate to other areas of the game making room for those that are willing and not just there for the achieve points.
And what if they don’t?
Your argument is invalid since it doesn’t fix the core of the problem.
Such people can show up anywhere for any reason in any number and you can’t help it.
I guarantee you that once the hype is over most of those people will be somewhere else doing something they enjoy amd is more rewarding. Your organized groups will be able to fit on 1 map and not be divided by overfail servers. Once you have 80 or so organized trained individuals working together random pugs won’t be as much of a problem. If you take a look at servers that have beat Teq that had many afkers and perma dead but still manage to beat him cause the bulk of their force was organized.
Edit: I think teq is going to become 1 of 2 things. A totally ignored awesome piece of content or a Multi Server Epic Event. You can already see Teq slaying guilds forming up and guesting to low pop servers/overflows. As for reward, it doesn’t seem like much now cause of all the wasted time waiting and camping SF. Once these guilds get more Experience I can see them killing teq 90% of the time. It’s only 15mins, the rewards are adequate.

The reason the zerg can ball up like that is because the turrets are cleansing and buffing. Without the turrets the zerg dies or gets disbanded due to conditions. Without the turret defenders the turrets die. There is a lot more than just zerging and spamming 1 to this fight.

2 maybe 3 people clearing fingers around the zerg really helps with the cleansing keeping the zerg DPS up cause of fewer downed people. Having 2-3 people stay behind and clear the fingers out of the water while the otherd protect the batteries ensure then the following DPS stage won’t get hindered by them. Turret guards should always clear fingers before the adds.

Yeah, at first, I was “They need to nerf this” then I fell into an organized group (TY SBI for letting me squat you map for a day) and now I think the encounter itself is fine but there should be tools for serious players from different severs to be able to join together on one map more easily. That way you get more people coordinating on VOIP, fewer AFK’s, and fewer trolls ruining it for everyone else. Those stuck on kittenty server get their kills and everyone is happy.

To be honest, I’d rather see him become a ghost town, instead of a farmville. I mean, come on, it’s dragon. I want to be scared to at least one single mob in this entire world pve for immersion sake.
I agree but the organizational requirements to successfully complete it are ridiculously out of reach large portion of the player base. Unless you are lucky enough to be on a server with large organized guilds you are SoL.
On SoS people have already given up on it. Don’t know about the Aussies but I know all the NA are either guesting or totally disregarding it, many who have got their kill are not even bothering to try again cause the rewards suck. I have just spent the entire day guesting on SBI in the hope that I can get a kill tonight. If I do I probably won’t bother trying it again in a long long time. I see this joining the Karka Queen in loners lane after a few weeks.
So your target has to be:
Blinded
Bleeding
Stunned or KB or down
you’re 20 percent health
etc
etc
?

Might be good for big boss fights that have all the conditions on them for most of the fight. I wonder if they all stack.
If it is going to remain in open world there should be a series of pre events in which you have to participate in inorder to get any rewards from Teq. That will prevent any AFKers, and weed out those looking for a free ride to the loot.
This is ridiculous. Tequatl does not need to be instanced. There are a ton of other mmos that have instanced raids. Why don’t you guys go play those if thats what you want? Stop trying to ruin something that a many people are enjoying.
Not many people are enjoying Teq at the moment if you haven’t noticed. There is nothing fun in camping Sparkly Fen for hours on end just to fail over and over again cause of a bunch AFKer’s and noob turret operators.
Like it has been said, I love hard challenging content but Teq is flawed for the fact that you can’t control who is doing the events with you and the only way to win is to join a huge super welll organized guild and finding an empty server to gather everyone on. It’s a total logistics fail!
