CI Mesmer wandering about the supply area could be devastating if the opposing team doesn’t have stab. CC to damage and immobilize them, if coordinated with an AOE bomb, it could be a game winner.

I do think some more serious appearances are in order, most of the existing weapons feel over the top, maybe some cool looking weapons that just look strait up deadly over glowing and effect heavy. Maybe make this more focused on personal and attack effects over glowing and movement? But I have been drawing up ideas for a great-sword that pulls heavily from a reaper’s scythe that could look pretty kitten cool in game. Maybe make attacks leave either black or green streaks with a black shadow that is kind of like the quip effect?
PRAISE GEESUS
I run it with focus shatter, pull someone with temporal curtain while in the middle of the warden cast and with some timing, it will finish the moment the pull from the curtain finished then illusionary leap to immobilize them in the phantasm, wait till the last second and shatter. Its a burst from hell, hard to land, but hell if it wont ruin someones day.
It can be more then shatter fodder, it can actively contribute to the over all burst.

Specializations and the New Legendary Weapons
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Kaamau.5341
I think the appearance of each legendary weapon will be based specialization that gets it, such as a druid themed staff for ranger, or a reaper or what ever themed great-sword for necromancer.
Its not baseless, as there is a skin for a staff that could be legendary that looks rather “druid” themed, but also it would make sense for Anet to use the specializations to give them a theme to work with when creating the new legendary weapons. Plus I may or may not be drooling over the thought of the necromancer great-sword legendary…
You guys think they would do this? Have ideas a cool legendary weapon based on what we know or could speculate about?

If you’re referring to the Raven Staff that was datamined well over a year ago. (In November of 2013) and ever since it’s been re-mined over and over again under the guise of it being a ‘new legendary’. It’s not IMPOSSIBLE that they decided to make the legendary and put it in the files back in 2013 – well over a year before they were going to release the expansion. I just find it to be… improbable. Imo people just like to be the ones that datamine the next big thing, so they keep bringing that up. :/
In terms of specializations affecting which precursor you could craft.. I doubt that will happen too, since each class is getting 1 new weapon, that would mean one extra legendary skin for each weapon. (Unless I’m reading it wrong – you mean druids can craft X legendary staff, then everyone else can craft Y legendary staff, right?)
It sounds nice but thinking in therms of giant material and time sinks, all of those skins seems.. tedious.
No, I mean that would be the specific theme of the legendary, if a an elementalist decides to craft a staff it looks exactly the same as if a druid did the same, however the theme of the weapon, aka it effects and appearance are geared towards the same theme as a druid.
No legendary X or Y just new legendary X.
But we have seen that Anet have put things in a year or more before they are used and considering how long they have worked up to this I don’t think its that out there that specific staff could be the druid legendary, or maybe just the precursor that they put into the game before deciding to with hold new legendarys from us till HoT.

I GvG and there is A LOT I can tell that is going on, you don’t see individuals, but that is because its large scale team play, you don’t need to be skillful as long as you can work well with others. More or less you can see certain groups single players. The Necro are a single player, the gaurdians and warriors each comprise a single player, the eles another, and the gank comprises the last spot. Every player in every group have a role in mind, just like in a 5 man pvp match each player has their role.
It makes teamwork imperative rather then individual skill. Each group is only as good as how well they can work together.

Ehem. Me and a friend of mine talked about it for a while and we came up with an interesting idea for Chronomancer-Mesmer.
Something like a Glamourmancer that summons permanent effect fields until they leave combat, die or shatter them for special effects that can boost them and their allies or hurt their enemies. The have high AoE spike damage via shattering their fields. They are still time based and specialize in hastening allies and slowing enemies. Of course the effectiveness of their fields is balanced with long or short cool downs and a reliance on allies for fights but can compete decently with enemies due to cripple and other slowing effects that keep them in the Mesmer’s fields. And are ultimately extremely strong point defenders if they bunker down.
Seems cool, maybe a little OP, but I like that it kind of seems like a Mesmer.. but not…

Please no more animal races
Humans are animals.
Too bad there’s a completely legit definition of animal that precludes humans that they could have been using.
Although for all you know, maybe they want more plant races like the Sylvari. They didn’t say anything about humans.
Or maybe they want mineral races, like golems.
Or maybe they don’t want any new races period, since they didn’t say anything about adding any races at all.
Above all, whether humans are or are not considered animals is irrelevant, as the person clearly wasn’t suggesting they add humans instead, as that’d be a dumb suggestion since they already exist. They said “no more”, not “take them all out”.
Read what you’re responding to next time before trying to make some witty comeback.
It was obviously a joke. You’re a lot of fun at parties, aren’t you?
No, it was obviously snark. It is interpretively a joke. You read it as a joke. I read it as snark. Nobody can tell us what it was meant as, not even the person who posted it, because they’ll clearly pick whichever definition doesn’t make them look bad.
At parties, I can see the person’s expression and hear their voice so tone is an actual thing. They’re not texting me there.
So yes, I am a lot of fun at parties. Good guess. You win an award.
person who posted it shows up, go ahead, pick whatever reason you like that makes me look bad, my thesis stays the same. Humans are animals, or maybe you’re one of those questioning evolution?
Human —> Norn --> Kodan —> Bear would apply to this game universe
Well, evolution is out the window in this game universe, the moment humans came through the mists.
I’m pretty sure human and Norns through some strange magic (that is a joke) they aren’t even related. In-fact humans in this universe might not even be considered animals, as they could use considerably different internal mechanisms to the rest of the animals on the planet.
But this is just a theory with no evidence to either side. But it is know that humans did come from the mists and likely not originally any of the ecosystems that exist today.
hmm… but this thought did give me some ideas to expand one of my lore theories.

My theory: The elder dragons are the first corrupted dragons.
Its possible that a long time ago that dragons existed in Tyria and fed on magic. One day a group of them tasted the magic of the human gods, and became extremely powerful, but the power drove them insane and they wiped out their own species, or turned them into champions before falling into a deep slumber to replenish their magic. Glint could have been Kralkatorrik’s mate or just simply some random pregnant dragon, but its likely she was one of his first victims, which saved her from the same level of corruption as the Shatterer.
Its a guess but I think it covers a lot of the bases. It explains how other dragons could exists, why the dragons look different and have their own aspects, why they consume magic. I also like that it works in why some of the Elder dragon’s aspects are very much like the gods.
As for why she can hatch eggs in such odd intervals? She was a magic dragon that can see the future.. she can do what she pleases and likely saw the events that are taking place now and set some kind of “hatch now timer.”

Eh. I destroy on Shatter condi faster then I ever could with PU condi. Since the patch I’m yet to lose a 1 v 1 with shatter condi against even the best players. Only chance of going down is 1 v 2 or more, 1 v 1 is a no-contest, they signed their death warrant. But it does have its limit and cant sustain on the same number of people as PU condi. But it can win 1 v 3 if you play at the top of your game, but its a lot of pressure to handle.

But also in my mind players should be active with their defense and staff inherently makes it more passive. Combining that with what I previously explained, that is why I refer to it as a crutch.
Translated: Staff is strong and I don’t like using it, so people who use it need a crutch obviously.
<3 you too pyro. But you reached a different meaning then was intended. If you can take care of your own defense using timing and dodge rolls, GS is your better option, if you cant, you can reduce your offensive for staff.
The problem is that this 100% false.
If you can take care of your own defense using timing and dodge…then great, maybe you can use greatsword in some situations. But now you take that same situation, you add the staff, and your defensive capability becomes massively enhanced PAST that which is possible without staff.
Greatsword becomes the ‘better’ option if you absolutely require that long range damage pressure. Staff is the absolutely better option in every other situation, regardless of skill.
I disagree about, the range of situations where staff is better, I’ll switch, I love stealthing up to a point, knocking my target off point with GS 5 then immediately zerker+ blade and shatter to either kill them or force them to remain off point so that I can cap. I’ll be hard pressed to see staff do something equivalent of that without the assistance of other weapon sets.
It also has more immediate and reliable CC and chasing potential with longer range on attack and the cripple from the zerker. Zerker will also easily do more damage then the chaos storm, unless you get lucky timings + HS. Making GS a more offensive weapon that is a more immediate threat in combat, opposed to staff which will be very slow to get going due to the fact that you will need to build condis to really make warlock effective. How ever it can reach the same level of offensive in time if you rely on its easy defensive abilities. But I would much prefer to hit that point immediately and finish things fast, apposed to sitting there and waiting for my damage to kick in.
But that’s just a difference in play style.
PRAISE GEESUS

Though there are some builds its better for and I understand that, how ever it certainly does not have the pure offensive capabilities of GS, so I question why some people take it in certain power builds if for any other fact that they cant survive without it.
Your getting predictable though pyro, try mixing it up a bit
PRAISE GEESUS
hmm… It is a very good defensive weapon and can actually do really good damage considering its defensive abilities. How I like to describe balance is with math, staff has a 4 in offense and a 6 in defense 6 + 4 =10. GS has a 6 in offense and a 2 in defense 6 + 2 = 8. At least in my mind that is how it works and if those numbers don’t match something isn’t quite right, which they don’t. Keep in mind I have probably played staff just as much as I have played GS, but I like GS more because make much better use of its offensive abilities because I’m a offensive style player. But I know staff is the better weapon I just don’t make proper use of it.
But also in my mind players should be active with their defense and staff inherently makes it more passive. Combining that with what I previously explained, that is why I refer to it as a crutch.

Idk why every is hating on these builds.. I destroy with it. I also play most every other kind of Mesmer build out there. Its at least on par with other kinds of mesmer builds in wvw. If your set up correctly with tormenting runes scept+p / staff with rabid gear. I spike around 15 stacks of bleeding, torment and confusion which will result in them getting insta-gibbed, running away and dying or just stop doing anything and sit there and take more condis until death. If they remove them, it doesn’t bother me since I can reach the same point pretty dang fast. It how ever, doesn’t have the greatest sustain, but phase retreat + traited blink = giant bursts of speed, and I can normally escape bad situations.
PRAISE GEESUS
My suggestion: merge the functionality of phantasms and the previous mimic ability. After absorbing any attack you will have the option to summon a phantasm that uses the full version of the ability. If you get hit by a meteor you can cast a phantasm that casts meteor shower on the same cool down as an ele until it dies. Like wise, if you block the hammer auto on a warrior you will summon a phantasm that chases after its target and spams hammer auto attack. That way the ability could be really good if your adept at keeping it alive but there will remain the counter-play of actually killing it. then again, a phantasm with banish…. on sky hammer? ahahahahahahaha!
Also for the AoE issue. just have it put its specific target right in the middle of the cast.
PRAISE GEESUS
Mesmer can be really good if your running either shattter or mantra, the both have really high AoE spike potential, along with the ability to win a 1 v 1 if it needs to. However both require mostly zerker gear to be effective, so if you don’t know how to position, your pretty much done. But when you get used to it, I can push into the enemy zerg and survive longer then the front line classes because I know where I need to be in order to avoid most damage entirely.
PRAISE GEESUS
I’ll start. PU shatter mesmer.
funniest and most asinine thing I’ve seen the whole week.. you do realize PU and shatter work in complete opposite ways and don’t mix even slightly, right? oh wait you probably don’t even play outside of warrior or ranger…
What would be OP with 2 more trait points..
Multiple Warrior Builds would be back to being a bit too overwhelming
Guardians Might get up there but who could really say, they dont have a lot of good traits to pick from that they don’t already take.
Thieves would probably climb back to the Thrown of “only viable glass zerkers”
Eles would be pretty happy to be able to take some new traits to the party but their trees are so kittened who could really say how OP it would be.
Necros, mostly still boned
Mesmers, also still boned.
Rangers, probably also still mostly boned.
Engineers would probably only become more annoying and not so much OP..
Because lets be honest, Some classes have traits that Amplify what they are already pretty good at, or encourage certain styles of play. While other classes are crippled and reliant on traits and are nearly unplayable without or shoe horned into playing certain ways with.
Actually the two can be combined currently into a not to bad might stacking shatter build… they can work and there is not really a reason why they cant work together… but I would rather see 0/4/0/6/6 shatter Mesmer, or at least test it, could be good, could be bad, with the healing shatter trait at the end of inspire.

OK. I’ve waited to see if the topic would come back around to this but doesn’t appear to be any time soon to I’ll just put it now.
Goal
Making there be a sense of a single guild system with out hurting community, friends and family guilds.
Proposal Overview
Use the Alliance and Guild Hall system to create a multi-guild system still based around having one major guild.
Proposal
Create a “main guild” feel while keeping 5 guilds but making one specifically outstanding. This can be accomplished by making a “main guild” and 4 minor guilds. You can only represent your main guild and switch your main guild every 2 weeks in order to keep it away from the rep system and feel like when you choose it, your stuck with it for at least a little while. There are also certain benefits involved with your main guild, like being part of that guilds alliance accessing alliance chat and alliance functions. You can’t access the alliances of your minor guilds on the other hand. You can also only access the guild gall of your main guild and other possible functions that will be put in place. This is also to avoid having 5 guilds and 5 different alliances going on since that would be far to much chaos and access to different groups for one player. The goal is that your major guild is the one you want to progress with. Like a hardcore WvW guild, a PvE speed runners guild or a Spvp guild. Its who you want to make a name for. While the minor guilds are things like; community, friend guilds or even family guilds. That way you have still have these forming and keeping together with out punishing the people who make them, like you would in a single guild system. You can always access the chat of your major guild but only one chat of a minor guild. And in order minor guild members there would be a specific note by their name in the guild roster and a cap for minor guilds that doesn’t take away from the 500 member cap we currently have. That way large guilds don’t get punished for staying in touch with old guild mates via. the minor guild system. As i said earlier, minor guilds cannot appear by or above your name, as they are not guilds you would be recruiting for. Community guilds and guilds of that nature don’t have a major need to represent because they generally have their own methods to recruiting.
Potential Risks
One risk is that people will be torn between two guilds that require them to be major members and people are forced to choose between them at the beginning.
But its not really much of a risk, just ask one if you can minor, which should probably be OK for most guilds since minor members are not involved in the cap but can still be involved in most else. You might not be involved in some of the guild’s major events but you still keep friends.

Never die vs. a ranger 1 v 1, but if I’m busy dealing with some one else… that rapid fire will probably destroy me. Its not a L2P problem its the fact more then one thing can be going on at one time and you don’t always know they are going to start bursting you down.

This looks alot like one of the bannable offences in the ToS, since it gives you an advantage over people without it, you know where there siege etc is, and they do not know where yours is… Just saying , i think its unfair.
I’m sure if it can be done in this app it can be done on a website… so.. I get banned for having duel monitors and looking at a web page based on this logic? no. I think information offered by the api is probably OK. Sure it gives them an advantage but literally everyone could use this if they wanted to (don’t go on a bad computer rant, if your computer is that bad you should expect to be at a disadvantage any way). As everyone can possibly use this, if they choose not to, they choose to put themselves at a disadvantage. At any rate if you have one guy in team speak or even in map chat with it on, its close to having it your self so even those that don’t have it won’t really be all that effected.

I like most of the ideas put here so far.. but here is an interesting idea for ether just staff chaos armor or all chaos armor in general that would make Mesmer more appreciated and in some cases.. hated in WvW….
Chance for chaos armor to proc immobilize… sounds evil… but it could be good.
PRAISE GEESUS
Its kinda unlikely they will go beyond f4… so I suggest they combine the daze and confusion shatters (the two must under used shatters). That would open up some new stuff right there as is. (CC condi-shatter mesmer?)
Then they can implement something like your idea. But the only issue is there there is 3 clones not one and you can specify which one you will blink to to with out a major re-work of the shatter system. So they would have to:
-Randomize it.
-Make it the clone closest to your target and if there is no target, the clone furthest from yourself.
-Make it the most recent clone summoned.
- Put you in the middle of their positions.
PRAISE GEESUS
The nerf is stupid. Its providing more counter-play to an ability that is already easy to counter and hard to land (because of bugs). It also takes away the skill play of remembering where the clone was when it died and using it later.
To put it simply they put counter play were none was needed and took away skillful play.

If a zerg captures SM, how would you reward points? What happens if you sit for hours in Garrison and nobody attacks it? You did not do anything that would award defense events, so you get no points? If it gets you points then a lot of people just AFK in keeps and SM, and be at the top of the leaderboards.
I don’t think there is a good solution to this, where we players cannot find some way to exploit it.
I might be wrong on this.. but I’m not sure the the later is exploitable… the total would always add up to your teams total score… you take the objective and you get your percentage of the score as long as your team holds it. You cap Garri with 25 people, and you hold it for 10 ticks, regardless of you actually being online, you would get 1 point added to your score ever tick. since 25 ppt / 25 = 1 ppt and 1 × 10 = 10 you get 10 points total for holding 10 ticks. Which, while rewarding you for taking something, you cant get the points unless you actually hold it. The fact that your not online when its held and you still get points might not seem fair, but the idea is that you still wouldn’t be getting the points without your contribution.
You can’t exploit it by sitting in there if you didn’t help take it, your still getting nothing.
But the problem you named with sitting there waiting is still an issue. You can’t tell the difference between some one waiting for a zerg and some one sitting there AFK. You could introduce a system of diminishing returns for that, though.
You can start out getting 5 points for the first hour, 3 for the second, 1 for the third, and none for the last. While the numbers could probably be played with, something like that could work. You could also apply something like a 24 hour ICD of those points. It sucks if your sitting in keeps that long sitting and waiting for a zerg… but if you hit that cap, you might as well find some one to switch out with.
If you can poke a hole in it, I’ll see if I can fix it…. this is kinda fun =P

(edited by Kaamau.5341)
I agree, they could very easily use something like their achievement system for this…. like how they keep track of kills and other values in WvW. Assign fitting point values to them or possibly divide the number score earned by structure until its de-caped by the number of people who got credit for the capture and assigning that to each player (That might be kinda hard to do though) I like the later as it doesn’t make zerging the most effective way to get these point totals, which I think keeps it competitive.
Maybe assign individual rewards or rank points to these numbers at the end of the week?
PRAISE GEESUS
hmm…. back when I was running with a skill group (and hopefully will be soon) I ran into the immediate problem of retaliation destroying my HP pool very quickly. You can see this in sPvP also. Go up to a guardian stacking retal and do a full shatter combo on him.. should drop you any where from 50 to 75% depending how much power he has and if he is using might stacks (which he will have in a zerg). Amplify 2 or 3 times over and it can get pretty painful =/.
While I don’t know if this is pa problem in EU or no, but that is at least what I find in NA.

You mean Siege’s Bend right?
PRAISE GEESUS
Well I think a lot of it stems back to not giving players something to fight for. Do I care if my server loses: Yes but I do realize its out of my hands pretty much, so I don’t put as much stock into it and it loses it competitiveness. There is no pride involved, while I’m proud of my server wining, it’s my server that is wining. I’m getting no recognition for my server winning, no mater how much I do there are plenty of people doing the same.
I want battles were I feel there is something at stake, and in a virtual world, there is only one thing you can really put at stake: My pride
Find a way to do that and matches will be fun again.

No I want you to understand why it is important that these builds have existed since launch. The Mesmer community is constantly testing and retesting in some cases, builds, so nearly every single possible iteration of runes, armors, small changes in traits and sigils, for a mantra build have already been tested. Which especially in an environment like Spvp where setting up a build takes almost no time at all. If one of these iterations indeed worked to the degree needed for mantra to actually enter the meta, well you wouldn’t be posting this here would you?

As they easily dodge most of your abilities and crush you.
Well, what you say sounds valid, except, your account speaks as if the Mesmer is not as skilled/experienced as the opponents they’re facing.
Generally speaking, anyone who faces tactics they’ve never seen before has a more likely chance of losing, but, once they learn the tactics of their opponent (ie, gain experience) along with making the necessary adjustments the chance of loss is decreased, furthermore, continued exposure to the same opponent’s tactics with the necessary adjustments will soon lead to victories for a Mesmer as skilled as the opponent.
I did, just felt like it didn’t quite make it into your head.

Better late then never. Show some gratitude.
For all unneeded things, better never than late. To a formerly living or functioning thing, good things received late are valueless.
There is a threshold when late becomes too late, and never becomes the more appropriate time. A late lunch can spoil dinner if received too closely in scheduling. Such is the way lateness can afflict things that run in cycles.
When dealing with contagion, lateness allows it to spread. Too late allows it to be disposed of safely. It’s better to be both early and qualified though.
The appropriate idiom that holds true under more circumstances is: It’s better to be late than too late. Also, better never than too late.
Do you know when ‘too late’ is or was?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impression_formationThere are first impressions; and then there are ‘last impressions’. When operating within the status of last impressions, the influences of reformative action are vastly reduced. In rarer circumstances, a ‘final impression’ state may even exist to denote the point when something can change and no longer influence the impression. Any and all attempted change is then seen only as conforming to the impression; which is also the point any method of ‘telling’ (and not showing) would completely fail to re-impress.
Impressions are also believed to be a function of complex math; ‘integration’ if you need something to call it. And they are reversed by an inverse process involving ‘differentiation’ from the previous integrated impression. The important thing to note about these types of equations is that they are continuous functions defined at separate ‘unit measurements’. So to change an already formed impression, it usually requires it to be done around the same number of measurements. But as I hinted at earlier, with the stuff about first and last impressions, the unit measurements are spaced further apart nearing the end of the equation than they are nearing the beginning. Hence, poor impressions are easier to make and harder to break.
And so, none of this ‘late’ or ‘never’ or ‘too late’ conversation really matters in this situation as much as the simpler question: Are moves like this going to instill enough trust to withstand the rapid confidence depletion that’s already been occurring? Isn’t it more effective to curb the current ‘trust depletion functions’ than it is to try to offset them with separate small ‘trust generating ones’?

TBH this thread should have been closed due to it being a matchup thread, like all other matchup threads that have been posted after the matchup forum section was closed.
Again this is just another observation
er.. this is far fro ma match up thread, this is reporting an issue that effects hundreds of players day/night. Just because the OP formatted it similarly to a match up thread, doesn’t mean the content is the same.
