Suggestion: 2 new Golems (PvP hub)

Hi, I have suggestions for 2 new Golems for Heart of the Mists.

1. Self-Heal tester. This is a Golem that spins around (much like the dodge-test Golem), and when you touch it, you go to 1 HP. It cannot kill you. Use this Golem to test out Self-Heals.

2. Heal Ally tester. This is an NPC Golem that always has 1 HP, whom you can test healing on.

2 simple suggestions.

Kain Francois.4328

As of present day, it remains the opinion of the community that Necro is very far surpassed by other professions in both Open World and Dungeon gameplay.

Issues remain such as the lower damage than most other classes, mobility, blocking, and contributions to the team.

Minions also remain highly buggy, refusing to attack when I’ve personally been attacking enemies in the Silverwastes.

Our next Feature Pack will be in March.

I would like to call upon ANET to, in their internal discussions, please consider a Necromancer rework for PvE.

Who’s with me on this? Who else wants ArenaNet to examine Necros for PvE?

If you can, please list any specific issues with Necromancers in PvE (Open World and Dungeons), so that ArenaNet might discuss them in their internal discussions!

New Class for a Necro? (PvE)

Kain Francois.4328

After becoming absolutely fed up with the Necromancer’s low damage potential compared to other professions (care to educate me?), I have finally had enough of the Necromancer, and I am looking for a new class to play in Open World PvE, specifically for Dry Top t6 runs and Silverwastes

I have an 80 of every profession, so it would be easy for me to hop into anything.

I want something with a similar feel to a Necromancer, but much more useful to the War Effort in Silverwastes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Bomb Kit is a reference to Glaive Bombing

in Engineer

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

With the inspiration of the Engineer being the Ritualist, the thought just occurred to me that Bomb Kit was inspired by Destructive was Glaive.

Back in GW1, Ritualist had a bundle spell that, when used, would deal AoE damage around the ritualist, and ignore a percentage of the enemy’s armor.

What do we get in GW2? We DROP a Bomb, that does AoE around us, and reduces enemy’s defenses with vulnerability.

Coincidence? I think not.

Engineer was one of the final classes to be designed, coinciding with Glaive Bombing only taking off near the end of GW1’s life span.

What do you think? Is Bomb Kit a reference to Glaive Bombing?

Dervish the Next Class?

Kain Francois.4328

Dervish is filled by Guardians. That’s what virtues are… stripping boons to provide a burst effect. (Granted, Dervish enchantments >>>>>>>>> virtues)

Also, the Engineer is already the Ritualist. Even Bomb Kit is reflective off of Ritualist skills (as it is a reference to Destructive was Glaive bombing, down to the armor penetration/vulnerability effect.)

That all said, lore-wise, I would like to see a renaissance of the Ritualist motif in the form of a Necromancer.

I would like if it were char-bound instead of acc-bound, so that it still feels motivating to try it with different classes.

However, at the moment, challenge achievement rewards are a bit weak compared to Gw1 (which gave points to Reputation Title tracks, and 500g, equivalent to 25s in GW2’s economy)

We need a title track or badge (like World Completion) for completing every mission bonus.

Problem #2 of Necromancer balance: Weakness

Necromancer gets a grandmaster trait for weakness on crit. Or take a utility skill with HIGH RECHARGE, that WEAKENS YOURSELF. Sure, you can also run Dagger off-hand, but that means sacrificing Focus/Warhorn DPS combo.

Thief has a minor trait for weakness on poison, with steal being able to poison, and dagger auto being able to poison. Sword autoattack also applies weakness. In other words, if you melee as a thief= you can apply weakness.

Warriors get near-perma weakness on autoattack as well… Plus warhorn off-hand that also gives them VIGOR.

While Necromancer can achieve higher overall duration of weakness, they must dedicate themselves using every trait and utility skill possible, whereas it is given to Thief almost by default.

Why is it such a big issue for Necromancer to apply weakness, whereas other classes have such easy access to it? Does no one else see an issue here?

Why is the “attrition”-class, outclassed by others at their supposed niche?

Any build that invests in minions is automatically un-optimized for damage – there are far better traits for damage and far better utilities for damage

6/6/0/0/2 is not optimized for damage?

[Minion Heal skill]
[Minion Shadow Fiend]
[Minion Devourer]
[Signet that grants +180 power]
[Flesh Golem]

The only difference is that you change one of the traits for minions to deal 25% more damage, and instead of the two wells, you take minions.

How does this compare to the wells and other classes?

Problem #1 of Necromancer: DPS

Compare Dagger Necromancer with just Dagger Thief. From simply using autoattack, a Thief can amount to greater overall damage, due to damage modifiers + defense with Endurance Regeneration

Although the tooltip itself for Necromancer shows higher damage, this is a lie because traits modify the damage to much higher amounts on a Thief.

Why this is unbalanced: In addition to having a stronger auto-attack, as well as superior damage negation (endurance regeneration, blinds via pistol offhand), and much superior burst (backstab and heartseeker), the Dagger of a Thief completely outclasses the Dagger of a Necromancer.

Why this is even more of an issue: A Necromancer’s STRONGEST OFFENSIVE OPTION (Dagger) is completely outclassed by another profession’s.

Necromancer does not get much in exchange for less DPS. They get a very weak heal on #2, and on #3 is a short immobilize that, while useful, does not justify use outside very niche areas of the game in PvE.

Necromancer’s highest DPS option is literally a single auto-attack spam, that is inferior in damage and defense to another class.

Granted, while each third strike does grant life force, the nature of the Dagger itself makes it counter-productive to camp death shroud, because trait setups that would involve spamming autoattack on Dagger would also make it not worth using Life Blast in Death Shroud.

So what does Necromancer REALLY get for their measly little bit of Life Force on autoattack? A shadow-step (thief already has it on f1), a fear every 20s (bad in PvE because foes move away from melee range), and a timed AoE immobilize on #5 (waaaaay too high recharge)

Seriously, Necromancer only gets peanuts compared to a Thief’s superior offensive and defensive capabilities.

Actually, Necromancer is not that good at Condi dmg. Brazil did a test against Berserker abomination, and it took a Necromancer twice as long as Warrior.

The Change that necromancer need the most is to make Ds and healing not conflict each other.

I cannot understand why anyone would think it would be a good thing to have a profession mechanic that completly negates a central aspect like healing.

Healing is not, and was never an issue for me in PvE.

The issue is that Necromancer traits are a mess.

I play a Sylvari Engineer. And I do recommend it.

1) The Voice Actor. Oh my god, the voice actor… I have a man-crush or something. It compliments PERFECTLY for any steam-punk style you could possibly go for.

2) The mix of plants and technology is awesome!

3) Lore-wise, Sylvari are very curious, making them natural scientists. They are also already born with their knowledge and education, meaning it is easier for them to become Engineers than other professions. The fact that when a Sylvari their knowledge goes back to the Pale Tree, makes a single Sylvari Engineer a great contribution to the entirety of Sylvari society.

4) Many important Engineer NPCs are Sylvari. The most notable is Scarlet, but also many of the Pact’s Engineers.

Just make your Sylvari have brown skin, and give him black hair. They’ll look just like a black human, and you wont be bothered by the plant stuff.

On the other hand, mixing plants and machines is baddass!

Our next Feature Pack is due to March. It’s still 4 more months away, but I would hope the community might be able to influence what we see in the longterm.

You don’t need metrics to know that the perception of Necromancers in an Open-World and Dungeon PvE environment is often upon.

Necromancer is deeply in need of a re-work for PvE. Unfortunately, most of what it can do, is currently done better by other classes. And the few niches a Necromancer does have (mitigating falling damage, condi draw+transfer, and condi-spread with epidemic), are never needed enough in any PvE game mode to actually justify using a Necromancer over other classes.

Furthermore, Necromancer traits are currently underpowered. We have a bunch of useless traits which interact with Healing Power, but not many of them give us something more practical in a PvE setting.

I invite ArenaNet to please examine Necromancers for the next Feature Pack. We are in a desperate need of a re-work.

Thank you!

Necromancer uses in PvE?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

We all know that Necromancer is a little lower tier in Dungeons. But what about other aspects of PvE?

With the introduction of “organized” PvE maps, like Silverwastes and Dry Top, classes can exce where otherwise would not be useful in dugneons.

What sorts of uses does a Necromancer have in these Open-World PvE maps?

As the Necromancer community, we should organize a list of the Necromancer’s strengths and niches, both general, and specific to a map.

Off the top of my head…

General:

- Able to stack and mantain 25 stacks of Vulnerability faster than any other class. (Use Focus #4 + trait Unyielding Blast + trait Death Shiver)

- Able to draw conditions from allies and keep teams cleasned at a very fast and consistent rate. (Also able to reflect those conditions back)

- Very good at tagging (Warhorn #5, Life Transfer, Plague Form, Wells, etc…)

For Dry Top:
- During the Race event, similar to guardians use Spectral Wall to block Inquest from reaching their goal.

- During N Mines event, use a Necromancer’s healing skills (Life Transfer and Life Blast when traited) to heal Zephyrites and keep them alive.

- When approaching the Inquest Suit boss, use Spectral Walk to eliminate falling damage during the fall into the Inquest Cave.

For Silverwastes:
- Use Epidemic against groups of Husks in order to spread offensive conditions. (Keep in mind the radius is 600, which is HUGE!)

- When overloaded with mobs, pop Plague Form and ctrl+right click (auto) skill #2 in order to have a perma blind with a HUGE radius. Able to trait for chill as well, holding foes in place.

Some “other” notes:

- For Crash Victims event in Dry Top, although Necromancer can use a resurrection signet, the skill itself does not have a large radius, in comparison to Warrior and Ele res skills. Resurrecting more than 1 crash victim is rare as a Necromancer.

- Minions scale up events? (Research needed!!!)

- Minions scale up defiance? (Research needed!!!)

(Suggestion) Hellfire Pants and Headpiece

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

For Hellfire Pants, you should really consider making a flaming tail, or something. It just doesn’t make sense that in an armor set where the character becomes molten lava, that the tail is unchanged.

Likewise, you should really consider changing the headpiece to engulf the entire head and neck in lava, similar to how the Zodiac headpiece covers the entire head in blue space.

2. Guardian
3. Thief

Medium:

6. Ranger

Low:
7. Mesmer

Necromancer:
8. Necromancer

Yes, I gave Necromancer their own tier in terms of lest useful in dungeons.

I’m also a hypocrite who mains Necromancers, and takes them into dungeons.

Great thread. I’d like to know more about why people make the choices they do, and some provided that info. Overall, though, it’s really interesting to read the lists!

The problem is that Necromancer is a one trick pony.

With certain traits, we are able to stack and maintain 25 stacks of vulnerability faster and more efficient than an Engineer…. Which is cool, but not good enough to justify a Necromancer in a dungeon.

Necromancer possesses no unique buffs or abilities any useful for the team.

Ele has highest DPS in the game + Frost Bow + Might stacks
Warriors have banners,
Guardians have wall of reflection + Aegis spam, and VERY high DPS
Thief has “Improvised”, making them best Ice Bow user… Also has stealth and teleports.
Ranger has frost spirit and spotter
Mesmer has time warp and portal
Engineer can stealth and stack tons of vuln, with an array of other useful abilities

What can Necromancer do? Sure, they stack vuln, but the rest of your team should be doing that anyway.
