Okay, I was frustrated before, so I didn’t explain the story properly.

I bought a bunch of Silk off TP to refine and sell for a higher price. I managed to refine a lot, but in the process, I had bought more. However, instead of refining those Scraps into Bolts, I had accidentally refined Bolts into Coat Linings, since I got mixed up when I saw both allowed me to craft over 1,500 in quantity.

As a result, I used Craft All on the wrong option. Worst thing to come back to after breakfast..

Lesson: Double check before using Craft All.

(If for some reason people think I’m lying, I can screenshot my buy/sell history)

I had more than 4,500. I meant, I wasted 4,500.

It really sucks… They need to add more contrast to the menus. Perhaps different color text for refinement and stuff.

So after months of playing, I save up about over 4,500 Silk Scraps.

I go to refine them into bolts…. I end up crafting over 1,500 Silk Coat Linings worth only 10c on TP….

200G DOWN THE DRAIN.

WHAT IN ABADDON’S NAME IS THIS!? ALL OF IT! WASTED! WASTED! WAAAAAAAASSTED!!!!!!!!!!!! T_T

Know what the Feature Pack needs? Better color co-ordination. If only Silk Coat Lining wasn’t the same kitten color and resembling Bolt of Silk, this wouldn’t have happened.

Hell, if I search up “Bolt of Silk” in the crafting Menu, why the heck does it give me any other item?

I am raging hardcore.. But it does make me realize how much the Crafting GUI must be improved.

Hey, I know this might seem like something kinda minor, but there’s a huge lack of consistency when exploring Branded zones.

I remember when first entering, there was this REALLY scary theme with percussion, that made my heart beat.

Then….

The generic Charr-zone exploration theme -.-

I know it’s minor, but it really destroys the moment when there is a lack of consistency in the music, and I’m sad to see the amazing atmosphere inside the Brand only lasted for 2 minutes…

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

Hi Jon Peters. Here as a GW1 player to give feedback to a GW1-inspired system (traits)

First, as a player who leveled a lot under the new trait system, I will say I really enjoyed trait unlocks which get us to explore unique areas in the world.

I enjoyed these trait unlocks:
O- Flame Legion Tombs in (Diessu Plateau)
O- Vexa’s Lab (Fireheart Rise)
O- Provernic Crypt (Gendarren Fields)
O- That bandit cave with the Chest (Kessex Hills)
O- Ship of Sorrows (Straits of Devastation)

See something in common? All of them revolve around taking the player to a lesser explored area in the world.

Keep in mind what made GW1 skill capping so pleasant: Everything was instanced. You had a clearly set challenge before being able to capture a skill, which often brought you to new areas of the world. Furthermore, there was no timegate.

Compare with GW2: Sharky the Destroyer. Waiting for a champion…. and waiting… and waiting… waiting for someone else to join the [Group Event]… waiting… then waiting while autoattacking for his hp to go down.

I think it’s pretty obvious what sets them apart.

Hint: More mini-dungeons!

1) Give us a list of the most offensive trait unlock locations.

And that brings us to the BAD trait unlocks…

X- 100% anything… No, no, no, no!!!! I do not want to do map completion on my 5th alt.
X- Kill Champion X [Group Event] and timegates. Waiting for Champ to spawn, then waiting for people to help…
X- Personal Story Traits… Too little, too late. A possible consequence of traits unlocking at level 30 instead of level 10.
X- “Find the grand chest near Scholar Fryxx.” (Straits of Devastation) This one is just annoying.
X- Any WvW objectives… This is THE worst of all trait unlocks! It combines time gates of waiting until an Ogre Camp expires, so that you could cap it… Then it also has the issue of no one wanted to help out. I’m sure even your own metrics will report that trying to kill the Overgrown Grub is dumb.

I would also like to note, introducing traits at level 30 is BAD, because it trivializes the most core aspects of most GW2 builds.

I do not have the metrics to prove this, however I do question the metrics which state that unlocking traits at level 10 would somehow make players quit the game? Honestly, I do question this. Are people like that even someone who would continue playing GW2 regardless of the traits system? Are you sure that is even your target audience? How is clicking a menu button to give +10 Power and +10 Precision so difficult and confusing that it actually makes people quit the game? Are you sure the mechanic itself is overwhelming, or just the presentation? Either way, I do question the metrics behind this.

New WvW Map: Farmfest Castle

in WvW

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

Hey guys. Glad you’re liking this idea. Here’s some food for thought:

1) Greed versus Defense

Defending the FarmFest Castle is not easy, as players mustn’t overexert themselves. In addition to needing Seige weapons and supply in order to farm the mobs, a smart Invader would try to strike while the Defenders are farming. So the Defenders mustn’t use too much supply needed for Defense-Seige, nor’ must they farm while under an invasion. Being too greedy is what will result in a loss.

2)15-20g/hour is only for actually managing to defend the Castle for an hour. Consider the fact there is a tug-o-war between 3 teams, and it’d be more realistically 5-7g/hour

3) A centralized objective promotes a more healthy competition, rather than a “flipping”-train current WvW maps have degenerated to.

4) Defending as a viable tactic! In this game mode, it is actually rewarding to defend, whether it be a small roaming team killing zergs at a fort, or the FarmFest Castle itself.

I would like to emphasize the fourth Food for Thought, of Defending as a viable tactic. With a centralized, single objective, means that your Castle is constantly under assault. The very goal itself of the Defenders is to fortify their forts and defend their FarmFest Castle, while securing the supply to continue doing so. This is a gameplay rarely found in current WvW Maps, and I hope players find it interesting enough for ArenaNet to consider!

New WvW Map: Farmfest Castle

in WvW

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

No, the title is not sarcasm.

I often hear complaints about how EoTM degenerated into a farmest, and how that is Toxic to the WvW community… Well, why not embody that idea instead?

Here is my suggestion: A WvW Map dedicated entirely to farming.

In the center of the map is a castle where a TON of events and champions spawn, for a farm worth about 15-20g/hour. The twist is that 3 different servers must compete over control of this area, and the longer it is held, the higher the rewards. In other words, servers are rewarded for their skill.

Surrounding the castle are many different forts, which the controlling server must defend and reinforce in order to prevent the enemies from reaching the controlled castle.

In addition, the events themselves would require Supply in order to farm, such as a Champion Seige Golem who is only vulnerable when struck with a Ballista, or a Bone Wall we need rams to destroy. Some events naturally promote using an Arrow Cart when tons of mobs spawn.

In order to get the supply which the farming events need so much, the zerg controlling the castle would have to travel back and forth between the castle and an area within their forts containing a supply camp. However, enemies are able to capture this camp as well, essentially cutting off supply to the castle and starving them of supply needed to farm, giving the invaders a chance to defeat the castle defenders.

Capturing the castle itself is no easy task. The map would be mostly linear and comprised of mostly narrow passageways which intentionally provokes the 2 enemy server to cross paths and fight each other. In other words, the invading servers would not only worry about capturing forts from the castle-defenders, but also from the other invaders.

As a reward for both capturing and defending, players get to farm champion boxes, karma, t6 mats, and lewt.

I believe a “farm”-map like this would greatly reward players for working together with smart tactics and commanding, while also engaging them with skill-based combat against other players.

In addition, it would also allow ANET to turn the Edge of the Mists into a more “serious” game mode, while making Farmfest Castle into the dedicated “farming” map, which Edge of the Mists currently is.

I think it would also serve as a great bridge between WvW and PvE players, since it combines gameplay of both gametypes.

Also, it would improve server pride, in my opinion.

What do you think? Castle Farmfest sound good?

Yes, it is a Psilocybin Mushroom!

Kain Francois.4328

I’m getting a little tired of people range-exploiting the HoTW troll. He’s an easy boss, and meleeing him is much faster anyways. Here’s a few tips:

1. When approaching, he will use “Fear Me!”. Make sure you have stability or area-condi removal to deal with the Fear condi. (Healing Spring, Cleansing Flames, Shake it Off, etc…)

2. Double dodge his shockwave attack. Yes, that’s right. You must double dodge his attack, and the entire fight is balanced around it. Assuming you double dodge it, then you should successfully have enough endurance before he uses it again.

3. Counter his daze spam/thunder-bolt thing, through Stability and projectile destruction. Elementalists should be using Swirling Winds, and Guardians should spam ability. (Note, I am not sure whether or not it can be reflected, but I am positive it can be destroyed)

Follow these 3 basic strategies, and e should be dead in no time.

Easy boss, requires just a bit of competence and strategy, but still easy. Seriously, learn it, and you will love how easy this boss becomes.

The CDI is coming back! Topics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

I vote: 1. ANET Chooses.

I know the community will cheese me out for this, but this post is directed at ArenaNet:

This is your game. The reality is that you know way, waaaay more about this game than the players do, and you have the metrics to back it up.

As a player, I could try to talk all what I want. But the reality is, I have no kitten what I’m really talking about, because I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. For example, I don’t really know about the struggle of balancing skills between 3 game modes, and I don’t know what worked, and what didn’t.

The issue is, having a CDI with players not understanding what goes on in development, or not addressing the topic ArenaNet is currently working on, makes it feel like a fake PR campaign. And I’m not accusing CDI of being fake, but considering the long wait time to see changes manifest ingame, that is the unintended side effect of allowing the players to give too much input. Again, I’m not saying CDI is “fake”, but there is a difference between what ArenaNet intends, and how it feels to the player.
When you leave any decisions up to the community, I don’t want to see ArenaNet bashed when you cannot meet the community’s demands. For example, players want Precursor Crafting NOW, and obviously there are factors preventing ArenaNet from releasing it now… Players don’t understand that, and letting them vote on it is like telling a kid not to eat from the Cookie Jar until after dinner.

However, I am confident that ArenaNet is competent enough to choose their own CDI Topics, based on what they consider important for the current direction of the game.

Dry Top Events Could Use A Balance Pass

in Living World

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

Hi Regina,

My critique of Dry Top is with the tier system.

I really love to play in Dry Top, but as I find time goes on, it becomes more and more less populated, and it is harder to find an organized map with commanders.

The first problem is that there is no need to grind more geodes. Players have already bought most of their recipes, so they really have no need to spend more time in the map.

The second problem is that players don’t want to organize. They just want a ferry to t4/t5. So when they are inside a t1 or t2 server, they don’t put any effort whatsoever into organizing. This is a BIG problem.

Considering this is a level 80 zone, it competes with Cursed Shore and Frostgorge Sound as the “endgame” zones players farm in. So why not add a farming incentive?

I suggest adding a reward for completing each tier. Perhaps champion boxes, like Boss Blitz? The Queen’s Pavillion proved that format could work well, and I imagine earning champion boxes each tier would be a good incentive.

Tier 1: 1 Champion Box
Tier 2: 1 Champion Box
Tier 3: 2 Champion Box
Tier 4: 3 Champion Box
Tier 5: 4 Champion Box
Tier 6: 5 Champion Box

Total over 40 mins of paritcipation: 16 champion boxes.

Of course, players have to participate in events to actually earn credit for the champion boxes. Let’s assume players must complete 1 event for each tier.

Consider this mechanics approach to the zone as two formats:
-Clear Weather Dry Top focuses on farming Champion Boxes through leveling the tiers and the champions themselves.

-Sandstorm is focused on event farms, such as clearing Dust Mites and Haze.

About that blix exploit....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

Sorry devs… As a farmer, it’s still in my interest to continue farming Blix. Try another fix. (Maybe it completes after a certain number of foes are killed?)

That said, this did get me thinking… Events like Blix make me realize players truly want to farm. And I know that goes without saying, but actually farming Blix puts it into a first-hand perspective.

Players put a LOT of effort to make sure Blix works. They have to co-ordinate to pull champs, while surviving the Champion Risen Corrupter with the reflect and aoe-pull. Trying to survive that champion isn’t exactly a walk in the park…

So I came to the conclusion… Why don’t the devs make it rewarding to defend a point instead of capturing it? What if there were really hard defense events which increased in difficulty as time went by, but as reward for succeeding, we get to continue farming a farmfest? Think of Temple of Melandru after defeating the boss.

If players put as much effort in defending as they did Blix, I imagine Cursed Shore would be pretty cool, and much closer to the original “tug-o-war” vision the devs had for Orr.

About that blix exploit....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

A fix is currently being prepared for this issue.

While the behavior (design) of this event was acceptable in the past, changes in the game over time have created an environment around this event that has become increasingly toxic (for the community) due to unintended use/change of mechanics.

Players should not feel that they are in the wrong for completing an event (or event chain), and that is what is happening with this event. The respawn timer for this event will be significantly increased.

Hey Chris. Glad to hear this is getting addressed. And I’m a Blix farmer myself, and admitting this. Seriously, Blix is ridiculous!

That said, could we get unspoken permission to farm it before it’s nerfed? Pretty please?

Also, when you nerf it, could you restore the old penit/shelter far players use to love so much?

It’s a pretty tough decision to decide order.

Elementalits: This is an IMPORTANT thing. ANET wants to assure us Ele still has tricks even though FGS and Meteornado is being nerfed. They want to show it early so that guilds can prepare, both tactically and mentally.

Mesmers: Currently lower tier in PvE. Mesmers are hungry for changes.

Necros: Lowest tier in PvE. Hungry for changes, and more team support.

See, the obvious decision would be: why does anyone have to have no time for feedback. Why not have two weeks, or one, between the very last previews and the patch. That way no one has to worry about it. Also don’t plan a tournament in the middle of a big change preview.

Uhm… I’m pretty sure ArenaNet doesn’t consider player feedback for the Ready-Up Livestream previews, especially since we haven’t even played the update yet.

I believe that ArenaNet has a community of testers, balancers, and QA, who give them feedback, long before the updates are announced to the public. What we see now is the result of those activities, and the result of their hard work.

In other words, ArenaNet really couldn’t give a kitten about our feedback, because we really don’t know anything about the update. ArenaNet skill balancers understand far more than we could imagine.
