Imagining Bobby sitting in his office, a flower in his hand, picking off the petals:
“We kill him…”
“We kill him not.”
“We kill him…”That’s exactly how it happened.
The end cutscene where he was exhausted, made it really obvious what direction the story could’ve taken, but I’m really glad you guys decided not to kill him.
Cleansing Orr symbolized cleansing the theme of constant death up until that point, and it was a really cool twist observant readers could appreciate.
Killing Trahearne would be turning back on that cool twist, and ruin something that was really cool in the personal story. Besides, some people actually like Trahearne… :X
Didn’t Scarlet have a thumper on Southsun Cove? It’s possible there is a ley line there. (Then again, didn’t she have a Thumper in Borderlands too?)
Personally I’m pretty happy with Lost Coins as rewards. It’s been a blast hunting them all without guides.
Although I don’t think it’s necessary to strictly reward players each time they find a cave. Personally, I would be satisfied with an Easter Egg, like seeing a horde of chickens dancing around.
I am a little offended that this thread title makes fun of ANET’s new show.
Come on, Points of Interest is perhaps one of the most interesting things they’ve done in a long time. It’s like a director’s commentary, and that’s awesome!
And I know OP wants more for clearing the instances, but… You do get easy Zephyrite picks.
I would rather the pet be %40 of my damage and better ways to control them.
Pets are supposed to be like the limb of the ranger; an extension of one self. They a part of you, and more attention should be given to them.
Instead of nerfing Pet damage, they should allow us to micromanage their skills similar to heroes in GW1.
They should also add more skills which interact and take advantage of the fact Rangers can be in two places at once.
,…or the ability for Rangers to ride their pets…
This is actually a REALLY cool idea!
Tying it directly into the profession mechanics would add some much needed flavor into the game, without disrupting balance.
But no horses. We have Moas and Dolyaks instead.
Had similar experience, but for CoF Story.
Typically dishonorable sellers don’t fill their group completely (unlike decent people who actually have more than 1 friend to place-hold for spots), so that’s a good chance for you and a friend to join them via the LFG system and kick them. Karma is a skritt.

I was told to repost my ideas here. I have a few ideas which should make Flamethrower much more useful and give it a unique identity separate from other kits.
Flamethrower currently serves no purpose other than to be an Engineer equivalent of the Guardian’s “lewtstick”.
I would like to see that changed, perhaps. Ideas?
If Bomb Kit is our highest Melee damage, and Grenades are our best ranged damage and vulnerability stacking kit, what should Flamethrower accomplish? Ideas? Perhaps a DEFENSIVE kit focusing on projectile nullification and buffing the team?
-1 Flame Jet
Damage increased from 10% to 30% against burning foes. Added functionality: Applies 3s vulnerability to stationary foes each tic.Explanation: Come on, it really needs a damage buff, to at least bring it onto par with Rifle. I understand there could be issues with PvP, but how could a Flamethrower with near-melee range deal LESS damage than a Rifle? This badly needs a damage buff in PvE, and this change simply brings it onto par with other sources of damage.
-2 Flame Blast
-2 Detonate Flame Blast
Added functionality: Blast Finisher.Explanation: Changing this to a blast finisher would help on the theme of Flamethrower being a supportive kit, and really fits well with the idea of “Flame ‘Blast’”.
-3 Air Blast
Increase reflection time to 1.5 seconds.Explanation: Currently more than half Engineers don’t even know you could reflect using this skill, and it is incredibly difficult to time with an unforigiving cooldown. Giving this skill a higher window of projectile reflection would guarantee more use of this skill, while satisfying demands of High-End PvE teams for reflect skills.
-4 Napalm
Added functionality: Destroys enemy projectiles.Explanation: This right here changes the meta-game for Engineers completely! Napalm becomes integral to “stacking” in dungeons by being both a long duration fire field and a projectile block. Synergizing with Flame Blast and Smoke Vent (see below) allows this skill to also stack might, increasing the Engineer’s capabilities to be a team player even more. Through use of Air Blast and Napalm, an Engineer is able to guard his team pretty well against projectiles. Unlike Guardian’s Wall of Reflect, this skill merely destroys projectiles, making it more akin to a Thief’s Smokescreen. However, this does have its use, especially against Mai Trin where reflection is less desired.
-5 Smoke Vent
Functionality change: Pulses blind twice for 2 seconds each second. (Two-pulses of blind)
Added functionality: Blast FinisherExplanation: Another appropriate blast finisher for the Engineer. Synergizes with Napalm’s fire field in order to stack might, while also blinding foes, making this especially useful in stacking situations.
Overall, with these changes, Flamethrower becomes much more desirable as a support weapon keeping the team alive, while buffing their damage. The very fact alone it benefits in damage from burning foes makes it very team-oriented.
More importantly about these changes: Allows you to have 2 blast finishers in a single utility slot, compared to Thumper Turret which is 3 blast finishers in a single utility slot. This compliments the direction of Engineer as a whole, being a master of self-sufficient Blast Finishers.
Not to sound pessimistic, but I get the feeling most will be trivial changes, like a 3s fury on 10s cd for Greatsword which needs a non-offensive traitline to even use in the first place.
I really hope I am wrong.
Where in the screenshot is the raptor?
Moving on, Trahearne should be kept alive for another good reason: “This wont end well.”
One of the most iconic GW memes to grace the franchise. I chuckle every time he says it.
Love him or hate him, but he is quite memorable, and I think that is important.
He’s memorable alright, it’s just that he’s memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Or maybe Trahearne is just squeamish. And that gives him some personality when he says “This wont end well.” He’s a nervous scholar, probably a little grossed out by the fact blood and guts splattering everywhere when killing Risen.
Unfortunately what could’ve been funny was “lost in translation” when they forgot to polish his quirks…
According to DnT, Engineer is currently the second highest damage source in PvE after Elementalist, yet requires an immense amount of effort on the player’s part in order to achieve so.
And from personal experience, Grenades are amazing in the condi-PvP game with great range and long bleeding application.
This couldn’t possibly be buffs, could it? Plz keep your nerf-bat AWAY from my favorite class… Keep it AWAY! AWAY! AWAY WITH YOU! SHOO! GO AWAY! Go AWAY, you chicken fat, GO AWAY!!!
On the other hand, as someone who plays Ranger as their secondary, I am super excited to hear what balance updates they have in store for us, both for PvE and PvP. I remember hearing in the CDI thread that we would be able to perma-stow our pets in exchange for unique buffs depending on our pet. I’m super-excited to see that come into fruition, since pets have the capabilities to be an incredibly versatile and interesting mechanic (being a variable skillset of buffs we are able to pre-select before a battle…)
So you’re covering 2 professions every 2 weeks. Which means at least 2 months until any balance? Hilarious. In reality I wouldn’t expect a balance patch until october at the earliest. At least its summer :P
So no balance updates until September?
It does seem to make sense from a timing standpoint, since that is when Season 2 of Living Story is likely to end (assuming the finale is in August…)

Charr with Hellfire gloves, pauldrons, mask, and boots. And CoF pants and coat. Pure fire, baby!
But really, the real reason you want to be a Charr is for the animations. Especially if you plan to use Fiery Greatsword Rush, Charr have this animation while dashing that looks REALLY cool!
Not only that, but the Dagger/Dagger Charr animations look quite appropriate and fluid as well. (This is as opposed to Asura who have a weird and glitchy Dagger #1 animations for fire and air…)
Huh? What am I looking at in the screenshot? Where is the raptor?
I heard Flameseeker Prophecy is a light source? Anyone have a vid of it in a dark room?
I think it would make sense to see enemy players as humanoids similar to displaying character models on the minimum setting. This would also help out when players try to hide their class using costumes.
Considering battles take place in the mists anyways, they’re not supposed to be any races known to Tyria anyways. They’re “invaders”. You could make them just faceless suits of armor and it would make sense lore-wise.

Wait, are you on EU? I saw a cof story lfg at approximately 4am and wasn’t sure if I should join just for lulz. Good thing I didn’t as it seems.
Ivan, I’m proud of you!
No, I am not on EU.
It’s been 2 years, and I was NEVER kicked from a dungeon before, until today.
I was running CoF Story Mode at 4AM with a bunch of low AP people. Bear bows who use Longbow in melee, people asking why they deal more damage with banner, etc…
They seemed kinda lost, and very hesitant to move anywhere. So I decided to take the lead, call targets, tell them stacking locations, etc…
Right before the final boss, I’m kicked.
Look, I understand being an unpleasant person who kicks someone to invite their guildies, but kicking someone at 4AM really makes it to a new level of being an awful person. You don’t kick someone at 4AM at the final boss. Ever. It doesn’t matter how much you don’t like them, if you’re at the final boss, and it is 4AM, you don’t kick them!
People play video games because they want to relax in a virtual world before a stressful event in real life. MMOs like Guild Wars 2 there for play a very important role in people’s lives, especially my Israeli friend in the IDF who’s going through a lot of kitten with Palestine right now. Obviously I shouldn’t compare myself to my friend, but the point is that dungeon runners should be more considerate before thinking they’re cool griefing. There are real people behind the computer screen, and they can be affected by what you do.
I’ve already blacklisted the people in question, but I’m not particularly pleased by their behavior, and it really does turn me off from running with low-AP people ever again.
I think I’m beginning to understand why people make 5k AP and Zerker parties now. In my experience, bearbow newbies with 600 AP tend to not be cooperative, and act incredibly close-minded, and I do think there is a explanation why that is so. While I completely understand correlation is not causation, and obviously players with high AP can be unpleasant too, I think I have an idea why this seems to be the case.
Running full zerker gear and having higher AP requires a decent degree of social understanding and interaction to even achieve those feats in the first place. For example, you must be able to farm the gold or have run Arah, CoF, and CoE to even have full zerker gear in the first place. Afterwards, to have 5k AP, you either have to have had done a lot of dailies, or participated in some form of social game mode which actually involves reading the chat (Fractals, Dungeons, WvW, PvP, Tequatl, etc..)
It’s kinda safe to assume Zerker gear+Achievement Points are not only a sign of game experience and meta, but also proof of having interacted enough with other players.
In contrast, those with poor social skills and stubborn personalities tend to ragequit this game before even passing 2k AP, since they tend to ignore the chat box and get overwhelmed. That, or their poor social skills causes more experienced players to reject them, and decide running endgame dungeons is not worth their time.
Either way, from this day forward, I have no shame being picky about groups any longer. Getting kicked is the “thank you” I got for trying to help out a bunch of newby bear bows with 600 and 900 AP at 4AM…
And if the person in question is reading this, I kitten expect an apology!

The Ranger gimmick is being in two places at once (our pet)
Problem is, why would we need that in GW2? Unlike GW1, we cannot body block.
Did anyone post this one yet?

Hey all, as an Engineer, I’m wondering what everyone uses for their source of light in dark areas?
Sword classes have Fiery Dragon Sword, Volckitten, and way more other things, Torch classes have Torches… But what do we have?
Are there any Pistol skins I ckittene as a light source? Shield? Rifle?
One strategy I found is spamming 1 on Flamethrower, but that gets annoying very easily…
Yep, Ele is now the top DPS in the PvE metagame.
And yet, some people STILL think they are underpowered and beg for a CDI thread over Necros -.-
As far as I’m aware, the second DPS after Elementalist is actually Engineer, but Engineers require to much piano playing the tool bar, so some people just ignore them and say Thief instead.
Sadly, Rangers abilities in PvE are very similar to a Warrior, considering the Spotter+Frost Spirit setup are essentially Banner of Discipline.
However, in PvP, Rangers possess the largest range in the game, traps, cripple and frost, lots and lots of evades, melee attacks which POWERFUL melee pressure which “stick” to their targets, and spirits which all buff their allies very well.
Rangers also have a neat pull and projectile reflect useful in both game modes.
A Ranger and a Warrior together both buff teams considerably, but the general sentiment of most groups is not to take a Ranger if you don’t already have a Warrior.
Thanks!

What are you talking about? I rarely see any AP requirements in my 2 years of playing. At most, I’ve only seen it 3 times in these entire 2 years.
Bear is your Elite Skill, and it’s one of the strongest bursts in the entire game. (Charge works similar to FGS rush)
Where can I watch Points of Interest episode 3? I try to view the video on the news page, but it’s blank…
Does changing refresh rate make a difference? Which is optimal? Default or 60hz?
Hey, I’m looking to reduce my laptop heat. What kinda settings can I do?
Obviously low graphical settings, and I tried limiting the Frame Limiter to 30. But what else?
Will setting the refresh rate to 60hz instead of default do anything?
Maybe I missed something, but… How exactly did we find out Mordremoth’s name? When?
Characters casually allude to Mordremoth right in the first episode, but seriously, how do we know his name? Did a minion tell it to us, or Scarlet, or WHAT happened?
Put her back. Put her back! PUT HER BACK! PUT HER BACK!
I haven’t been this upset since we lost the “By Ogden’s Hammer!” Norn…
We already have mounts for WvW. See: Seige Golem, Seige Devourers, that light-transport-thingy in EoTM, and the Kodan hammer.
I do agree WvW is where Mounts make most sense though.
Like I said, they can make great gameplay elements if used in the right context. But not mounts in the traditional WoW sense. This is Guild Wars, and since 2007, Mounts were always limited to specific contexts.
But keep them out of Queensdale. This isn’t WoW.
Because they look like swiss cheese.
That’s the only thing holding m back from buying the pistol, personally.
Both Mesmer and Necromancer make use of Raven’s teachings, but Necromancer fits more of the battle-hardened, darkness-shaman type.
Butterflies just don’t suit Norn very well. My opinion. (But then again, I’m someone who rolled a CHARR Mesmer…)
Anyone have videos of our second highest DPS in action? I wanna learn this.
Also, if we’re second highest DPS, why is it we’re still relatively middle on the class tier? (Below Warriors, Guardian, Elementalist, and Thief?)
There’s not much to explain. Engineer sustained DPS is very high and that’s before you count DPS contribution through party-wide buffs. They also have very good personal buff stacking but I wasn’t counting that in the numbers you quote.
In case you were wondering what the build I reference is, it’s a 6/6/0/0/2 Grenade/Rifle build with relevant DPS traits (Shrapnel, Explosive Powder, Modified Ammunition, etc.) and Static Discharge. Your utilities should be Grenade Kit (obviously), Bomb Kit, and Throw Mine. You can replace Bomb Kit with Elixir Gun for slightly more DPS, or replace Throw Mine with it if you don’t mind losing the extra vuln stacks and the E-Gun’s defensive skills are helpful for you.
In general the engineer’s biggest issues mostly have to do with the fact that most people either just don’t know how to DPS with them or they don’t really know how to measure DPS. I just saw some guy tell me I was wrong about necromancer DPS (I think it’s from the thread you just quoted actually) because his Ghastly Claws hits for 12k, never mind that it’s a 3-second channel and on a 8-second cooldown and you do next to nothing with your autoattack. By comparison Grenade usually hits about 2.5k-3k per so people like that will see it and think “oh engineer DPS is only around that much, my Ghastly Claws hits way more” never mind that you can throw something like 40 grenades in the time it takes for him to do one Ghastly Claws.
If we replace Bomb Kit, what happens to our fire field? GASP You can’t honestly expect others to use a fire field, can they?
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
Why not use the Junundu-system as a middle ground? Make zones designed specifically for mounts?
Then they get to be more interesting than a stupid speed boost, Queensdale would be left alone, waypoints can stay, and GW1 fans will be happy.
Maybe make the Junundu into a Tonic for use outside of its zone.
It will be sung by Braham.
69 gallons of ale on the wall, 69 gallons of ale…
Hey all, I have a simple suggestion for the Engineer profession I think will open up tons new gameplay possibilities: Allow us to overcharge Flame Turret at fill.
Currently, Flame Turret does not activate its smoke field unless near foes. This makes things particularly hard to really take advantage of because the player does not have full control over their own turret’s combo field.
Allowing us to activate Flame Turret’s overcharge whenever we want wuld open up the following possibilities:
-More access to stealth instead of relying on Smoke Bomb (although I don’t see why anyone would use Flame Turret over Bomb Kit utility slot…)
- Ability to blind ranged foes with Projectile combo finishers.
It’s a small change, but it would really make the skill seem a lot more appealing in more situations.
It’s Nolan North’s whitey-mc.white-white whitey whitey white white voice.
got my “deal with it” glasses
I gotta vote this the cutest.
Yes, I play GW1. In the process of vanquishing.
Message me in GW2 if you ever need someone to play with in GW1. I’d be happy to log in again!
Saw this in another thread for DPS tiers:
Top tier (15k+): Elementalist
High tier (13-15k): Engineer, Thief
Mid tier (11-13k): Warrior
Low tier (<11k): Necromancer, Guardian, Ranger
Situationally anywhere tier: MesmerAnd I think that’s a pretty fair way to break it down. I don’t think it really changes the ultimate conclusion I originally stated which was “necro is 2nd worst, maybe third” which is perfectly supported by data.
Engineer is 2nd highest DPS? Anyone care to explain, please? Thanks!

Also, what about claims Guardian DPS is higher than Warrior?

hush, you’re ruining the fun.
Centaurs are also known for being masters of the Earth Element, and this is highlighted by both the Human tutorial boss, and Ulgoth fight.
If anything, Centaurs probably just make stone bridges for themselves.
Or conjuring giant stone hands that just throw them places.
Centaur sling-shot. Makes sense.
WTB French flag for Quebec!
Give us Junundu in a region tailored specifically for them. That should calm the mounts-people.
GW2 is not balanced for mounts. It might even break events.
Furthermore, why the kitten would I want the tedious process of travelling all the way across the map just to do one event? If I wanted to look at the environment, I would look at the environment.
That isn’t to say context-sensitive mounts aren’t cool. I know many GW1 players who loved their Junundu they were able to capture and progress with. And when the Elona expansion opens up, darnit, I expect to ride in a worm!
But seriously though, stop asking for game-wide mounts. Junundu are loved because they came from an entire region tailored specifically for them. But game-wide mounts are a completely different can of wurms, which might negatively affect the game’s sense of movement. The Gw2 physics engine doesn’t even allow them to feel that good either, since the collision and physics programming would make them feel no different than on-feet travelling. In other words, mounts would feel like a Tonic or Bundle with a speed boost, and that is pretty kitten lame!
