For the past few days I’ve been trying to do the Triple Trouble achievement “Wurm Bait” in which you must kill a Risen Abomination to get the achievement. However, it never gives me the achievement, and I’ve done it multiple times!

Uhm… Maybe I missed something, but where is the part of the video with the “insane” Necro DPS?

Also, if he’s going by the logic of “no best, just best at”, why is he citing Ranged Necro damage, without comparing to other ranged setups?

I don’t understand what I was supposed to learn from this video? Besides that Ice Bow is broken, what about Necros was he trying to tell us?

On the topic of increasing the cast speed of Life Blast: I think we would need to lower the damage multiplier if we wanted to increase the cast speed. The damage per second on that skill at its current cast time is already about as high as we are comfortable with. It’s a tricky skill to balance because we’d need to also look at adjusting all the traits that affect it.

While I appreciate that the devs are finally addressing Death Shroud, I do raise the concern that a Thief simply using Dagger autoattack (not even flanking or might!) will do more damage over time than a fully traited Necromancer with Life Blast and Runes of Strength. That’s pretty pathetic, considering an effortless autoattack completely outclasses our profession mechanic.

Basically, our maximum effort, with highest might possible, and 25 Vulnerability, does LOWER damage than someone else’s autoattack with no might.

I know this, because I recorded a video and took down numbers what happened over the course of 30 seconds. Never uploaded it online, but I am willing to re-record just to show how low damage our Life Blast is.

If ArenaNet is satisfied with the damage numbers, then I have no idea what we are doing wrong with Death Shroud, but it’s pretty low damage.

Please re-include the Orders in the story!

Just revisited the Chantry of Secrets, and holy kitten, that was a trip down memory lane.

The orders in the Personal Story were really tight-knit, and awesome. I really loved the permanence and identity to choosing our order, as well. I’m sure others felt the same way.

I am an Order of Whispers member, and I want to identify as such. When I am briefed on missions, I want to go to the Chantry of Secrets, and get my own Order’s unique take on events.

Please consider re-including the Orders in the Heart of Thorns storyline. Not the Pact, but the Orders themselves.

That’s why they should rework it into a burst-y weapon.

No. You can be ranged Power if you use Berserker gear. You can use Condi if you use Sinister gear.

Because of how condition damage now works, you get very little bleeding damage if you do not specifically spec into condition damage.

This essentially means that they can safely buff the base damage and power coefficient of weapons like Scepter, since they wont be doing much condition damage in the first place, if you aren’t geared for it.

Under the current formulas, to still have Axe and Scepter as separate “ranged” weapons, would be meaningless, unless they bring some unique niche to the table. But at the moment, Axe is just a ranged power weapon, and Scepter is just a ranged power weapon. There is no reason under the new system to be separate.

Scepter can be the ranged weapon. Because of how condi damage scales now, it can be either a power or condi weapon, depending on how they tweak the numbers.

Honestly, I want to see Dagger become the go-to weapon for Shroud builds, while Greatsword should be the burst and execution weapon.

Since Greatsword is slow, it SHOULD do more damage than Dagger. At the same time, a buffed Death Shroud should do more damage than Greatsword, and Daggers can establish a niche if they aid with the building of a buffed Death Shroud.

Yeah, being told that dagger AA is suppose to be the apex of Necro direct dps is a bit of a downer.

I know

Dagger is SUCH a good defensive weapon, but it’s skills are hardly offensive.

I do hope ANET clarifies their position on this.

The Aetherblades were really cool.

Heck, I want Tower of Nightmares and the Toxic Alliance to return, too! Just make a copy of the Tower somewhere in the Heart of Maguuma, and I’m sure no one will complain.

What about Shiro + Mallyx? Is Embrace the Darkness not a good skill? It gives us 10% more of every attribute.

Assuming you are buffed with 25 stacks of Might, that is +322 Power and +104 Ferocity, for around +18% damage, with a bonus +9% critical chance.

Sounds very good. A little worried it might be overpowered even.

My concern with Chilling Nova, besides its recharge, is that it doesn’t deal enough direct damage. It may be useful for its chill, and seems primarily for PvP. I canot comment much, but does PvE, I do wish it dealt more direct damage.
Shivers of Dread change is good. Not many sources of Fear on a power reaper though, since Reaper Shroud’s fear is harder to use, and less powerful than Death Shroud’s.
Cold Shoulder change is good. Not much to comment, though. 20% instead of 10% is not a big difference.
I didn’t play a Condi build during Beta, so I cannot comment on Deathly Chill.

Soul Eater – Similarly to Augury, this trait is heavily influenced by the current power of greatsword. It sounds like it’s a little weak right now, but I’d like to see how the other changes to greatsword affect the weapon before modifying this one.

Soul Eater is fine. The recharge bonus combined with with spamming Nightfall, it’s a very good ability. When combined with Death Spiral against multiple targets, it allows you to recover 1650 hp. The problem is Decimate Defenses is too useful.

Overall, the changes are all very nice and useful.

I would also like to suggest that you remove the cooldown from Reaper f1 before being able to return. As it currently stands, there is a 1s CD, which prevents us from “Flashing” our Reaper Shroud. This is a BAD change, because it destroys build diversity with the Curses line (5s Fury on Shroud use), and many other traits that use to synergize with Shroud flashing. It also forces us to trait into Decimate Defenses, since we cannot gain practical Fury from Curses anymore.

I’m strictly a PvE player, so my feedback will be towards that game mode.

The original intent here was to make GS feel like more of an AoE weapon while dagger felt like more of a single target weapon.

This sounds nice on paper, but Dagger doesn’t have much single-target DPS. Instead, I look at as a Defensive weapon focused on Death Shroud, which generates a massive amount of Life Force between dagger auto-attack, and our focus or warhorn off-hand. Furthermore, Life Siphon (Skill #2) on Dagger is a powerful RANGED ability that can restore a massive amount of health when combined with Blood Magic, further playing into the theme as a defensive weapon. Dark Pact (Skill #3) synergizes with Life Siphon perfectly for its 3 second channel, allowing you to safely restore health when fighting melee enemies. Dagger is a defensive weapon, and it is awesome at what it does.

It has high consistent damage, but it shouldn’t be balanced as the Necromancer’s highest single damage source, since other classes can deal higher higher consistent autoattack damage than us. (Thief Dagger auto, Guardian Sword auto, etc…)

However, I do emphasize that as a defensive weapon, our Daggers interact with our profession mechanic more than any other weapon, and the defensive nature of our weapon set plays majorly into the class identity. Daggers generate life force like no one’s kitten!

Greatsword Auto Attacks – Fixed incorrect range facts. These attacks have the same range as normal Greatsword Attacks. Added lifeforce gain to all hits 1/1/3. Increased damage of all attacks by approximately 20%.
Fading Twilight – Adjusted animation speed to smooth out attack sequence for non-human rigs.
Chilling Scythe – Increased chill duration from 1.5s to 2s.

Will have to test this out ingame before I could give any feedback. I don’t like how it gathers so much life force, because I feel that is walking on the domain of daggers and warhorn.

Gravedigger: This attack now has 100% recharge when it hits a foe below 50% health. Increased damage by 50%. Increased recharge from 5s to 8s.

This makes me feel icy. (Or whatever the Necromancer equivalant of being moist is…)
It will definitely feel much more comfortable to use with a 100% recharge rate. This is the defining skill of a Reaper, and it SHOULD be powerful. My icy hands applaud this!

Death Spiral: Increased range from 170 to 220. Increased width of cone by 33%.

The concern I had playing with this skill is more so the cast time rather than the range. But any buffs are welcome, since I didn’t find many useful opportunities to use this during the Beta.

Nightfall: Changed animation. This skill no longer roots you to cast. Removed camera shake.

A little sad that the animation is being changed. This was my favorite skill, and I didn’t mind the rooting whatsoever, since it felt similar to a Guardian Symbol, but more powerful.

Grasping Darkness: No longer poisons and instead inflicts chill for 4 seconds on hit. This skill now fires at your target instead of using your facing direction. This skill will no longer fire if your target is behind you.

Chill makes more sense than Poison. I like these changes. A little sad that it isn’t 900 range instead, but considering the short cast time and high damage of the skill, I’m happy with the skill.
One thing I can say so far, is I really appreciate the skill animation with my Eternity.

“Chilled to the bone!”: Reduced cast time from 2s to 1.25s.

To be blunt, this skill is still not worth using at a 120 second recharge. The recharge is just too high for what is otherwise a 2s stun and some chill.
Cast time reduction is necessary, but it doesn’t address the core problem with the skill.

“Rise!”: This skill is now unblockable and instant cast. Damage increased. Now creates a shambling horror for each foe hit which lose health every second. These minions place Dark Bond on their master when they hit with attacks which causes 50% of the damage from attacks on the master to be redirected to the minion.

Very good idea! I can’t wait to test this out. May be a little OP in PvP combined with Death Magic, so I think you should watch it carefully.

“Suffer!”: This skill is now instant cast. Lowered damage. Increased chill from 2s to 3s

It’s an offensive condi cleanse that chills. I like it. It would be my condition cleanse of choice in builds without Consume Conditions, and it seems seriously useful in PvP!

Shroud Flashing has been a thing since launch. Whether it was intended or not, it’s a part of the class identity that we have come to love. It furthermore adds depth to what is otherwise a simple f1 skill.

Simple feedback here:

Reaper Shroud has a 1s cd when used, before being able to turn to normal form.

This destroys Curses builds that used the trait to gain 5s of Fury.

This was one of the things that makes our profession mechanic more diverse. Please consider changing this to be like Death Shroud, which has no ICD, so that we may “flash” our Shroud for Fury.

Weapon: Wand
Issues: It is inefficient as either a condition weapon or power weapon. The autoattack does not build bleeds fast enough, making it take too long reach the potential other classes are able to achieve within seconds. Furthermore, the #3 skill is a power based skill on a condition build, that is quite useless as opposed to simply autoattacking. However, for a power setup, the low, LOOOOW burst damage of #3 does not justify using a weak autoattack.

Necromancer is defined as an “attrition” class, that “gets stronger the longer in combat”.

Currently this doesn’t translate into mechanics very much but I do have an idea: What if Dhuumfire was a trait that served that exact purpose?

Currently, Dhuumfire is balanced for the Reaper. It has no internal cooldown, and its duration is very short. I think that’s wrong. Dhuumfire should be useful on both Necromancer and Reaper, and since it is a grandmaster trait, it should be very powerful.

Here’s my suggestion: Make Dhuumfire a long-duration (10-15s) burn stack, with a 1-second internal cooldown to match the cast time of Life Blast.

This resolves the issue of Reaper Shroud’s autoattack stacking too much burn, while adjusting Dhuumfire into a setup that grows in intensity the longer a battle goes on.

Naturally, this REWARDS us for using our profession mechanic, because the longer we maintain death shroud, the more burn stacks we can stack.

Suggestion for ANET: Why not make it so Dhuumfire has a 1s internal CD (small enough to be spammed by Life Blast, but not enough to make Reaper skill 1 OP), then increase the duration of the burn to about 10-15 seconds base?

That way Dhuumfire can establish itself as a slow-building condition that greatly increases in intensity over time, playing on the “attrition” theme… Like the Necromancer description says they should be!

The Chilling Darkness nerf seems because Reaper Greatsword supposedly has a permablind AoE skill, and the issue is that it’d trap people inside the permablind AoE.

From what I see, the skill is on a considerably lower CD than Well of Darkness, too.

Let’s be realistic here – ANET does read the forums. They hear our voices. And they know we are not satisfied with the Necro spec.

Internally, there’s probably some reason the balance is the way it is. Whether that’d be preparing for a future update, or simple balance issues we are unaware about.

Nah, I’m also pretty angry. But I also recognize that ANET are people too.

I feel like their struggle is trying to define what niche the Necromancer should be, relative to other classes. The key word here is “relative”. It’d be easy to buff Necromancers, but that could perhaps ruin the niches of other classes. As a result of conflicting with other class niches, we’re shoehorned into a bunch of gimmicks, like boon corruption, and condition transfer.

However, the ONE niche of Necromancer I really like so far, is Transfusion, Vampiric Aura, and that thing where they stop downed damage on allies. It’s a great direction for Necromancer to go in, and I would really love to see more support oriented towards helping allies in the downed state.

Wut… Am I the only Necromancer without issues whatsoever with Life Force? In PvE I use Daggers, and in PvP, I use Spectrals, Staff, and Wand.

Honestly, Life Force seems fine to me.

It’s dat Consume Conditions which… disturbs me.

Currently, Clarion Bond was nerfed to activate once every 30s. This is an awful change, because pet swap is every 15 seconds, and it is very difficult keeping track of it, which is important because Clarion Bond is a blast finisher we must be able to reliably trigger at will in order to use it with combo fields.

For the sheer sake of quality of life, I propose syncing the recharge of Clarion Bond to petswap recharge (15 seconds)

I’ll pass along the suggestion about rainbow dye. I don’t know if it would work, given the way dye is added to armor and items, but the art team would know about functionality and they can determine if it’s something that we would want to add to the game.

…I’d like all of us to just stop and think about the wonder and beauty of rainbows — because, really, who doesn’t marvel at a rainbow?

It’s a little weird, especially compared to the Engineer’s permablind options, like Smoke Bomb, Mortar Kit #4, and Smokescreen.
