IIRC only 5 out of the 9 servers in the top 3 tiers are full. That still leaves some options.
well, what’s wrong with them moving to any of the non-full server ? merging servers is effectively dissolving one anyway…..
Well, because then most of the little population left on server 22+23+24 would go to the already highly populated servers, and thus be a further part of the problem. Instead of going to other under populated servers and be part of something to fix the problem.
If they’re doing server merges they really have to merge 2 servers together, to combine the WvW populations. Not just give free transfers.
Personally, not having experiences with T7 or T8, but from reading a TON of these threads it really seems they need to condense these servers. 19:24, 20:23, and 21:22 would make the most sense to me, and then any future tourneys would be three brackets (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) with two tiers per bracket.
By condensing them this way Anet would solve that empty feeling that the T8 servers seem to feel, and perhaps draw back some players that have quit in frustration. I also wish they would do this prior to HoT launch so that any new players that come in don’t immediately become frustrated.
Sorry already spent enough money for a game that doesn’t deliver what was promised .
I’ll just wait for them to forge merge us with someone else when they grow tired of paying for an empty server.
Plus if you move whats to stop people jumping ship again?
When my original guild left our starting server we did significant homework on the possible landing sites. We sent scouts out to the final three(with guild money), and decided based on their experiences. None of the servers we investigated were bandwagon servers.
Jeeze I don’t know what things are like on my server. I guess your right I just need to get in experience some wvw. I’ve been enjoying pvp and im thinkin I’ll enjoy wvw. I’m worried because all my Pve gear is berserker and I’ve been led to believe I’ll be an easy kill with that set up. I play guard, thief and necro. I Think it may be a bit difficult/expensive to experiment with gear in wvw.
Full zerker on my thief and necro, get some PvT trinkets and you’ll be fine as long as you can dodge a bit. Zerk on a frontline guard would not be advisable.
PvDoor is boring. Zerging all the time is boring.
Instead, encourage more open field battles and more small group roamers. This way, the zergless night cappers can help their team a whole lot.
How? Take away points from towers. Tower will no longer generates points for the total score. Instead, the generated points directly goes to camps and sentries. Yes, Sentries will now generate points.
Solo roamers can help their team directly by taking over sentries. Zergs can still kill sentries easily, but 10 solo roamers can take more sentries than 1 zerg.
What will happen to zergs now? Zerging can still exist and be viable. First, zergs can take keeps and Stonemist castle to help the server get more points. Second, towers are still an option. Towers will still give money, exp, karma for people who captured it. It also gives a safe haven to the solo roamers, scouts, and siege weapons. Towers can be a supply depot for zergs that want to resupply. Those reasons are enough for towers and zergs to still be useful in WvW.
However, solo/small group roamers or playing at night have little reason to exist. Not even the Bloodlust buff is a good enough reason.
I agree more emphasis needs to be put on all aspects of WvW, and by doing so it would force servers to change from PvD zerging to a better meta.
I like the idea about sentries being worth points. I also think the very act of flipping bloodlust should be worth points. Bring back PPK as well to encourage more open field fighting. Also make the upgrade status of structures/camps determine the point value of the flip.
Open field kill: 1 point/2 points for a spike (large enough enemy wipe and you would earn as much as a T3 keep flip here, which might be a bit excessive, but I like open fields so…)
Sentry: 1 point to kill the sentry and 2 more to flip the point.
Packyak: 1-3 points per kill(not sure how much a packyak should be worth honestly, but 1-3 could tie it to the upgrade status of its originating camp)
5 points to flip bloodlust
T1 camp: 5 points, T2 camp: 10 points, T3 camp 15 points
T1 tower: 15 points, T2 tower: 20 points, T3 tower: 25 points
T1 Keep: 25 points, T2 Keep: 35 points, T3 Keep: 45 points
T1 SMC: 45 points, T2 SMC: 60 points, T3 SMC: 75 points
You cannot remove points from towers. Why even bother having a tower if not to generate points? If you take tower points, and roll them into sentries and packyaks then you are only rewarding solo roamers, which is not a good idea imo.
Defending: The stronger server has a built-in advantage when defending multiple structures as they can spread their forces out more than an outnumbered server. Perhaps make the defend score start when a wall/gate is breached. Defending needs to reward a score, but ticking at the upgraded value would put the bigger server at an even stronger advantage.
With the auto-upgrade feature coming soonish this would help the outnumbered server recoup points that they otherwise would not be able to garner as easily.
All this being said the larger server will still win the week, but perhaps if you make the weaker servers feel like everything wasn’t pointless for them then they would continue to come out in larger numbers than they ordinarily would.

It could be interesting with some tweaks. Tried Soldier’s, Rampager, Beserker, and the Celestial gear, and didn’t feel strong in any of them.
They need more utilities per legend. 5 is too few, perhaps 7 would be better.
Weapons seem to have super long animation for what you get.
Jalis elite is not good. Too long of a cast for the reward.
Staff is just downright weak. Major tweaks needed.
Mobility is poo atm.
Managing CDs, energy, and cast times seems to be burdensome to me.
Need more synergy in trait lines.
I didn’t expect to pick it up and feel strong right away, but honestly, I kind of felt a bit helpless. Hoping when we get to try them again they are more complete.
Perhaps they need to fold the lower populated servers into the next tier in order to make the new BLs feel more populated?
WvW isn’t any fun when there’s no one to fight against. They absolutely have to do something about this issue, and the only real solution I can think of is a set of server merges. Lowering the pop cap isn’t really going to fix anything as there are already a large number of servers that don’t fill more than one BL. Even T2 only fills one or two most nights, and won’t fill any in offhours TZ’s.
The thing is, there is no reason to take action just yet. It makes much more sense to me, to wait until after the expansion, before doing anything. New or returning players could possibly change the population a great deal on certain servers, or even all of them. Why compress the server numbers when it is logical to assume there will be a large injection of players?
There will be an injection of new and returning players but how many will stay for an extended period ? It’s a fact that some of those players will try it and leave within a short time frame. It’s a fact that if Anet neglects WvW as they have in the past that some of the ones who do not leave in a short time frame will eventually move on just as they have in the past. My guess is, if Anets continues as they have in the past we will be right back here to dead servers within 1 year.
My fear is that ANet will indeed wait until after HoT goes live, and the new players find that WvW isn’t any fun on their chosen server as Random says. They won’t stay, and if they do they won’t WvW.
Condensing servers now makes more sense to me. You will not increase queue times significantly(or maybe at all) if you only mess with T6,7,and 8. Condensing them will bring them back to life at the perfect time, allowing newcomers to come into them, and experience what WvW is supposed to be.
I really really like the idea with the Rev. I don’t like how weak I feel when playing mine.
Let’s hope this alpha look(let’s face it it’s not a beta) allows ANet to tweak the numbers a bit for release.
I figure that this alpha look at Rev will allow Anet to tweak weapon damage somewhat.
I get that it’s more an alpha than a beta, and I’m good with that. I do hope that later we get to preview the “finished” class, which will allow people a better idea of what they will be getting into.
For those who may not know, vengeful hammers is the revenant skill that makes a hammer spin around you as long as you have energy. It also slowly drains your energy until you decide to turn it off.
I noticed that when I use this skill in combat it tends to turn off after a second. This usually happens when I am very close to my enemy (was testing this in dungeons). I have to then keep reapplying it almost every second (even though I still have energy in my bar) to try to turn it on but turns off a second later. Is this working as intended or is this a known issue?
I believe what the Tooltip leaves out is that each hammer has a HP that it uses when hit. Once fully down it vanish.
This would make sense. Certain number of charges/health before it disappears.
They really need to allow weapon swapping on the Rev. I don’t know if they will or not, and kind of think they won’t, but each weapon set alone seems very lacking.
I have to admit I haven’t played my Rev for more than a couple of hours, but I really wish they’d beta them with the damage trait line in place. It’s definitely a L2P issue with me on this I do not deny that, but they seem to really be a jack of all trades master of none type class atm.
Perhaps they need to fold the lower populated servers into the next tier in order to make the new BLs feel more populated?

I still really think they need to close the bottom 3 servers entirely, and spread their population into T7 servers. Alliances would most likely end up with what we have in EotM, and that would be catastrophic.
At some point things become untenable, and that seems to be where we’re at with T8.
The mixing of pure PvE facets into WvW, and Anets desire to make WvW even more PvE-centric is disturbing to me. I don’t mind bloodlust, it’s good for havoc teams and solo roamers, but it seems that the new maps want to push WvW players into completing far too many PvE-type activities.
EotM could have been a pretty nice WvW map. That is a true WvW map, but something went horribly wrong. I really hope that the same thing that went wrong with EotM doesn’t infiltrate the new maps even more, and WvW as a whole even more, or else I, and many friends, will need to find a different game.
I play GW2 for dynamic fights against other players both large and smaller scale, not for completing tasks A,B and C prior to actually getting to fight other players.
The addition of PvE in WvW is not a bad thing. It helps to set a pace that would otherwise be completely player driven. The problem with completely player driven is that it relies on players and we have seen time and time again that players cannot be relied upon. What happens in WvW currently when the other team starts to win? The opposition stops showing up. With no PvE elements to slow the winners down and give the other sides a chance to get a foothold it will be pure domination. Pure domination hurts WvW population more than anything else period.
The original Alterac Valley in WoW was a great example of including PvE elements into PvP and it working. There was still tons of PvP, but the PvE set the pace and allowed for some real tactics. GW2 had a chance to include these elements with the centaur, quaagans, skritt, etc but utterly failed at giving them weight and tactical value.
The original AV was indeed amazing. 24 hour matches were awesome, but as always seems to happen, AV became a race to the lord, and matches became shorter and shorter, until you saw 40 ride by 40 on the way to the lord. Fighting became something the players avoided entirely, which somewhat resembles what EotM has become. Too much PvE in WvW is something to be avoided like the plague.

FA has grown so reliant on numbers anytime they dont have a full map queue they get wrecked.
The fact that FA isn’t dominating T2 with those numbers is testament to how much they suck
Lol this coming from a yaks bend player. We gotta blob cause you do
But way to turn the thread into a match up.
Not to put too fine a point on this, but the OP made it a matchup thread when he created it.
So what if server A has a commander that plays during PST/OCX and wrecks server B borderland during that time? Server B had an entire guild, that queued maps on their own, that PvDed for weeks on end during OCX/SEA. Isn’t that the same thing? Server B bought tons of guilds when server B got sent down to T3, and came back to T2 completely unbalanced. Isn’t that kind of gamebreaking? Server A should just lie back and take it from server B? Server A, which is NOT full, does what server A needs to do to make the matches close, and server B, which IS full, complains? Gimme a break.
I’ve been here since launch so I guess I qualify as a veteran.
Personally, none of this bothers me at all. This is the first F2P game I’ve ever participated in, but the sub games I’ve bothered to play for any length of time I sure don’t remember getting any preferential treatment when expac time hits.
I still paid my X amount to get the sub, and was happy to do so. From what I’ve read it condenses down to, “We paid for the core game so they should too!” stamp foot
Isn’t it good to bring new players in? I for one hope to see a wave of new players from this expac(especially in Bronze. They need them badly down there). Do you kitten when your bank offers incentives to attract new customers? The cable company? Cell company? Gym? This doesn’t effect you at all. Where was the outrage over the $10 sales?
I bought the Ultimate addition today, and I consider it money well spent.
I played WoW for 6 years, and WoW was $50 to buy and 6yearsx12monthsx15per month+3 expacs=$1230.
Played this game since launch. I’ve spent $400 on gems(yes I kept track), $60 for the game, and $100 for the expac = $560. So if I extrapolate that out over 6 years I’m looking at what….$1120?
I have at least as much fun in this game as I did WoW, and so I rationalize it that way.
I wonder if they offered a free, one-time, transfer up one tier to the server of your choice how many players in T8 would take it? Also would those that chose to stay continue complaining of how dead T8 servers are?
Will players need to buy HoT to access the new guild halls or are they being added to the core game? Seems to me that if you are including the war room which gives you access to air ships, motorcycles, and who knows what other new siege for WvW that the guild halls need to be added to the core game or you are bordering on pay 2 win.
Whats the difference between this and the core game not offering the new specializations or even revenant, you going to call that pay to win also? get a grip, just buy the expansion or deal with not having certain things.
If the game is balanced properly choosing a profession or build might make you counter another players build but it won’t make you more powerful. You still have access to the same stats.
When they include something like this, “Some are superweapons and special gadgets that a single member of your guild can take out into the field. Take a Banner of the Centaur into battle to trap opponents in cages, rain arrows upon them, and give you and those nearby the ability to trample them as you stampede across the battlefield. Alternatively, become a warrior of the roads by transforming into a charr car and sizzle your opponents in your burning rubber.” and only give access to people that shell out cash, that is something you pay for to make you more powerful than people unwilling or unable to pay.
If these new buffs can be sold on the trading post there is no problem. If the guild hall/war room is part of the core game there is no problem.
If a powerful buff is being added to a game you already payed for, but the only way to get it is to pay more money, then that is a problem.
Have you EVER played a game in which an expac did not reward those that purchased it in some way shape or form? In WoW the stat creep alone was enough to force people to buy it. Do you expect a company to just give away everything for free? That won’t last long in the corporate world.
Don’t buy it, and continue playing vanilla, or buy it and enjoy the new features.
It really dose not the motorcycle seems to be very (new BL) restricted and only in some parts of that BL even still if they where usable at all times i am not sure how that wins the person who is wvwing your still dealing with a full map of ppl and really one person even groups of ppl is not going to “win” out that week.
You seem not to understand what wvw is about its is at its hart a weekly events that has a winier base off the side who has the most points. Things like sieges and speed up alone are not going to win it and even if a person is lacking such things other ppl will have it on there world and at some level every one from that world benefits from it.
So if you get right down to it if your guild world etc.. was able to buy guilds for coverages that is a type of P2W for a wvw or rvr stand point but that is kind of how war works and is part of the grand game of it all. Not having some effects of your own is not going to changes the out come of that week even having them will also not changes the out come of that week to due to how comunitly base wvw is.
Please, I am so sick of hearing people say WvW is war and this is what happens in war. I’ve been to war, Gw2 isn’t war, it’s a kittening game.
Using your logic Anet should start selling weapons on the gemstore that are 3 times as powerful as ascended. It wouldn’t be P2W because someone on your server will end up buying the new uber weapon.
Okay so it’s not WAR, it is however a War Game. And no that’s not at all what the logic by the poster implied. They implied something along the lines of popping ownership bonuses on a keep. These things help you win, and are only available to guilds that have invested in unlocking them. Airships and Charrcycles are the same. They are something that a guild on your server invested time in unlocking and building.
Don’t want the expansion, and the content that goes along with it? Fine, don’t buy it, but I imagine there will be enough guilds on your server that you will gain some benefit from their outlay of RL money to purchase the expansion.
Well, seems that P2W has different meanings to different players. To me P2W means you MUST purchase something to be able to win. I really don’t think that Charrcycles and airships will be must haves. Nice-to-have sure, but not MUST have.
Now if they said something like superior siege can now ONLY be made within a guild hall I could get behind it being P2W.
I agree with you.
But is there any progression system linked to fights in the arena? Guild hall upgrade?
Maybe i missed something.
I think the progression/dedicated leaderboard was only for the PvP guilds(5man).
I imagine that they are putting in some of the new crap ahead of time, and that has led to an issue with their servers. Who knows maybe by the time HoT launches all the issues will be resolved. /s
I’m buying it. I don’t necessarily expect a lot out of it for WvW, but maybe I can get some chuckles out of it from the PvE stuff, and I do plan to make a Revenant, as well as use guild halls.
Plus I figure since I don’t buy a lot of gems if I buy that $100 expac I can bank some gems for later. Meh, compared to yearly expacs plus sub I have gotten a pretty good value out of this game.
Ascended gear has been out long enough to be tradable and/or be sold for badges.
It has been out long enough for you to craft a full set as well.
Ascended is a mere 5% increase in stat allocation and the amount it takes to craft far exceeds any type of badge trade-in.
And it is soon to go up to +10%. The point is that most WvW players will be behind a larger curve, because while I forced myself to grind out the mats for weapons, and used laurels to buy trinkets, rings and necklace I still need a cloth and leather set of armor. The only full ascended character I have is my guardian, and that grind was real. So now, while I can switch my guardian armor with my warrior, I still need to make a set for my necro/ele, and another for my engi/thief???
No, for many WvW players making full ascended for every character they have is not a real possibilty without dedicating themselves full-time for an extended period for farming. Many WvW players have multiple professions to make sure their raid has the right comp on raid night, and as they primarily play WvW they do NOT have the gold/time to farm or pay for the mats to make full ascended suits for every profession they use.
Making ascended armor/weapons an item that could be purchased on the TP would not fix it either as most WvW players tend to run very light on gold.
Badges are our defacto currency, and as such make these items purchaseable with badges. Make them cost say 100K karma, 2500 badges, and 15 gold or something per piece. That would still keep them at least somewhat rare without making them out of reach.
The only thing Anet can do to alleviate the problem is to merge the lower populated servers. They cannot force people to leave higher tiers to enter the lower tiers, and if they tried there would be a huge exodus. The most vocal on the lower tier servers are adamantly opposed to server merges. Anet cannot pull players out of their butts to populate the lower tiers.
This is the same problem that exists in every RvR-type game. Population imbalance is a bear to fight, but it’s not possible to change without the players themselves being willing to change.
If your game experience is not what you want/expect then you do have choices. You can try to change it within your server community, you can grind the gold/spend the cash to move, or you can stop playing.
Anet will not give you free transfers up tiers. They should give free transfers down tiers however.
Locking transfers prior to any season announcement.
This is essential for a season to proceed without mass bandwagon onto, and then later, off of a server.
I for one would be interested to see how the new T2 would fair against the new T1 in Gold. I think that FA would have a decent shot at pushing a T1 server. And I definitely think that any week that had YB/FA versus a T1 server would be interesting(if YB/FA could retire the mutual disdain for that week anyway).
Silver might be very interesting as well with SBI, Mag, HoDb, and the now resurgent CD in the mix.
I admit I know nothing of Bronze, but Gold and Silver would be interesting to watch.
Just a heads up, it isn’t happening only in WvW anymore. I went to Sparkfly today around 9 p.m. server time and the same bugs were happening there, lots of people reporting in map chat.
The list of complaints: aquatic weapons being wield in land, massive lag spikes, no skill response, creatures teleporting, sudden deaths to no apparent reason, interact key (F) not responding and at some point someone related they started a combat against kraits, their screen froze for a few seconds then all kraits were dead when it normalized; disconnects from instance then taking twice the time to load the map.
Funny thing is that I was in WvW before went to Sparkfly and didn’t experienced nothing of that.. and there died while jumping on a rock.
Happened to me yesterday in Sparkfly. Was finishing up map completion for an alt when all of a sudden it was like an empty map. All highlightable things disappear, and I’m just running though scenery. Then after about 30 seconds to a minute of that whammo.
I bet the size is related to skill ranges. The arena will still be way more spacious than the original windmill area.
20s all day at the old windmill area, which was much narrower, but longer than this area is. All this will do is to force another meta change in GvG, but at least now GvG guilds have a legit place to fight without interference, and with guaranteed dimensions.
It does seem that 10s and 15s will be the order of the day with the size of the arena. 20s might be a touch large for this size of space with the current meta. Kinda hard to pirate ship in this arena. Perhaps we will have more odd numbers like 12s or something.
………………………………………………………….
So the best way to remove condis on a necro is going to give you 10 vuln stacks. This is one of the most bizzare penalities just to use a heal.
It doesn’t even apply the vuln to anyone else.
This is one of the most uncalled for things I have ever seen.
Is there another heal ingame that puts you in jeopardy when you use it? I have zero idea W T * they were thinking with this change.
Ya know it’s funny the other night I was in WvW running back to my zerg and got pounced by a d/p thief and a d/d ele. Killed em both after a nice drawn out fight. A few minutes later, still on way back to zerg, got jumped by a mesmer/ranger combo. Got owned in about 10 seconds. I guess I forgot how to play in those 2 minutes. /sarcasm off
I’m pretty okay with the other changes, but the change to Consume Conditions is just beyond the pale. It’s "Consume"Conditions, not “Switcheroo” Conditions.
As fast as condis happen in this game to make us use a condi clear after using a heal is ridiculous. Don’t care how you spin it, it’s a bad trade off.
So with megaservers in place explain to me why the servers even need population caps?
WvW already has mapcaps, and so once capped you go into queue. Let the lemmings all move to an overpopulated server and spend hours waiting to get into WvW if they want to. OR if you’ve been on a kitten,T-whatever server for long enough, and the queues to get into WvW are ridiculous you get a one time freebie move to a lower tier server.
Group play doesn’t mean you have to zerg. And running a group of 10 or 100 it’s still group play. And just because you’re allowed to play that way doesn’t mean it should be encouraged. It takes away from the WvW experience if you can only muster 10 people on your server and there’s 20 people who will wipe you every time. (Extremely simplified)
20 should beat 10 every single time. The fact that on many servers every single day the 10 can and do beat the 20 is what makes the game fun.
Outnumbered wins are the best wins, and while it can be annoying to run 20 into 40 from time to time, it’s still an awesome feeling when you win that.
I’m sorry that your server is outnumbered, and I can empathize with being outnumbered, but I feel it would be unwise to penalize players for playing the way they wish.
10v10’s, 15v15’s, and 20v20’s, or something else?
Can confirm, dying instantly at random moments. I’ll be standing and them bam, dead.
Happened to me earlier on my lowbie in EotM. Was running back from spawn and whammo. YB server, red side of EotM.
10% is not “minuscule” You are free to send me 10% of your gold. I’ve only requested a minuscule amount, right? Many traits offer damage boosts around the area of 5-10%, to compare.
5% was tolerable because it’s still existent and can make a difference, the gap between players is possible to overcome. 10% is of course still possible, but it’s making it harder. Also, if you take 10% less damage and deal 10% more damage, then that would be more than a 10% differenc? Of course, this is just an example; I know that it’s not scaling like that.
I don’t think it’s catastrophic, and heh, I have full ascended myself, but you can’t just dismiss the problem simply because it could be worse. In close fights, these things can throw a wrench into the problem.
Of course, if they add progression to wvw so we can acquire these things more easily, I would not be opposed to that.
But this is kinda irrelevant. The real question is “why?” Why do we need stat creep?
That is the essential question here. Why do we need stat creep? Wasn’t this game sold as a non-grinder? Sure 10% is relatively minor, but it’s still 10%, and no longer 5%. 5% I was willing to do without on my necro, warrior, ele, and sometimes engi. Did the ascended crafting on the guard, and that was fine, but left me in a constant state of poverty. Nowadays, depending on the guild comp we run I can either be on guard, warrior, necro, or ele, and alot of time when just running around I run around on engi. Spent most of my big mats on the guardian’s set, and now I have to go back and make at least 1 medium and 1 light set?
Do the devs truly believe very many WvWers spend adequate time in PvE-land to get the gold or mats to make many sets of ascended to outfit all their characters? I MIGHT make a set of cloth armor for my necro, but that will be it for me as far as ascended goes(weapons excepted).
Again, you missed the point. A person should not have to transfer to enjoy one of the game modes. It should be available to every single player in every single server. It would be better if the WvW were more balanced in some way. I’m not advocating that WvW becomes as ideally balanced as PvP, for example, but “The answer is to transfer” is not addressing the fundamental problem.
You missed my point. Anet CANNOT make ET have the same WvW experience as other, higher tier, servers. Making it more “balanced” for lower tiers would ruin it for higher tiers, since every single suggestion that I hear from lower tier players to “balance” WvW seems to revolve around some kind of alliance system or a megaserver system ala EotM. Each of these would render WvW play a joke. An alliance system would make matches even more skewed as guilds would jockey to be on the winner, and EotM is NOT real WvW.
Server merges would eliminate the unbalanced matches, at least temporarily, but the most vocal from the lower tiers are adamantly opposed to server merges.
I started on CD, which has had 4 or 5 major falls over the years, and after the second I, and my old guild left CD for higher tiers. T1 wasn’t the answer for me, but T2 fits what I want from WvW. Buy the gems or farm the gold to get out of there, and rediscover what WvW is really supposed to be would be my suggestion.
If you aren’t getting what you want out of WvW on ET then you have three choices.
1. Leave ET.
2. Reassess what you want from the game.
3. Quit the game.
Then move off of ET. If ET isn’t fun anymore the only thing keeping you there is you.
No one is moving to ET, and apparently many are moving off of ET. This happens all the time to servers. Server pride is one thing, but sacrificing your fun when all the other people are leaving is not smart.
Anet can do nothing about people leaving servers of their own will, and Anet cannot make anyone move to a server that is on life support.
I really don’t understand people from lower tiers spouting off about things they do not know. Higher tiers are anything but a KTrain. KTrains don’t bother to upgrade, KTrains do not bother to siege up anything, KTrains don’t bother to fight over structures, and KTrains tend to avoid combat.
There are tons of battles big and small in the higher tiers. They happen constantly. Hard to go from point A to point B without fighting in some way, shape, or form. The battles aren’t always “blobfights”, nor are the battles always determined by the larger force. There are roamers constantly looking to pick off stragglers, there are havoc groups constantly flipping camps/towers, and there are larger forces attacking keeps, defending keeps, and fighting in open field. This is what WvW was meant to be.
Although I think there’s more to doing well, anything, than just winning and rewards, it seems that many would think the rewards are truly too low. PvP at least has reward tracks, wvw has 2 greens, the occasional yellow, and a rare exotic, as well as a mostly useless purple waiting.
I just got a magi ascended armor piece from my level up chest. Utterly useless, and it can’t be salvaged— just sold for 3s! At least a weapon could sell for 1g. Actually I want my green back; if it were cloth, it’d be more valuable!
To me at least, I think it’s pretty nice to play with the same group of people in a community effort, regardless of success or failure. It’s certainly not going to be a farm, eotm is way better for that. It’s a large scale outing, meaning that a few people won’t affect much, but I just come and do my part. It can also be somewhat unpredictible with whatever enemy zerg possibly hiding in the corner which tends to be fun too.
The unpredictability of the mode as well as the exaltation of winning a hard fought battle are the two factors that really can’t be replicated in other game modes. I do agree that if PvP is going to have significant rewards/tracks then WvW should also have some kind of payoff, and I too have known the pain of an utterly useless ascended chest drop(let us select stats please).
RvR(vR)/WvW(vW) games always see this. Rewards are often sub-par to PvE, and you will often(always) run into one world that outnumbers the other(s).
You play WvW because it’s fun, or it’s not fun and you don’t play WvW.
I play WvW because it’s fun for me. The other game modes don’t interest me in the least, and the only time I PvE is when I am dead broke, and even then I can make some money in EotM.
The only issue I could see would be interfering with the Ktrain, which one could argue as being against the intended use of the map as well.
Not against intended use of the map at all. It’s an WvW zone, therefore you should be on your guard at all times. Anyone that tried to argue against fighting on a WvW map would be laughed at by everyone.
I was referring to Ktrains not the fights
Ahhh agreed then and mea culpa
What exactly is your concern with this? There is no match to be manipulated as there is no benefit to winning vs losing. The only issue I could see would be interfering with the Ktrain, which one could argue as being against the intended use of the map as well.

Hopefully with Chaba’s videos as well as others on FA reporting the player that will be enough information for ANet to permanently and publicly ban this player.
Chris’ post with Grenth attached is indication that he’s banned the player already. Grenth would appear whenever Anet banned players in GW1.
Gotcha. Didn’t play GW1 so, although the spectre of death was neat I didn’t attach the meaning to it.
I just want a way to get those weapon skins and other things you can get from tournament rewards…
Yes, if they dont bring seasons, they should make the skins available for a ton of badges each. Like 5k badges each would be good.
There has to be a way to spend those badges more effectively. Stacks of superior siege. Plenty of alternate armor sets for every situation(that I never use, but can’t break down or flush down the mystic toilet). Still sitting on almost 20K badges.
Let us buy WvW specific armor/weapon skins with badges. Make the items cost many many badges, but give us an outlet to spend them.
This guy has in fact caused a bit of consternation amongst many on YB. Yes there are many that are in fact angry at FA about the whole situation, but most realize you can’t do anything about it.

T2 might not be your cup of tea when it comes to roaming. Not that there isn’t quite a lot of roaming going on, there is, but you WILL get run over by larger groups relatively often.
Now if you aren’t specifically looking at NA prime then yes you will find quite a lot of smaller scale things going on.
I think a new season would be alright. Not great, but alright.
If they did decide on a new season they need to show that it’s not all about gem sales by locking transfers prior to any announcement of a new season. I’m sure many players would cry and whine about not being able to leave a dead server, or whatever, prior to a new season, but in all honesty we’ve gotten to this place we are now due to mass bandwagons just prior to each new season.
That being said, Gold tier is essentially locked anyway. Every server except YB being full means that there could really be no bandwagon this season in Gold.
